Situated off the African coast, Gran Canaria has an ideal position in the Atlantic Ocean. With an area of 1,560 km2 and an altitude of 1,956 m, Gran Canaria is the third largest island of the archipelago in both area and altitude and enjoys spring-like temperatures all year round. Gran Canaria is a very mountainous island and rainfall is very rare in the summer months, an average of 21 days per year. With nearly 3000 hours of sunshine annually, this is one of the sunniest places in the world.

Canary Motorcycle Tours was started in 2013 by Martin Flynn and his partner Joy Allen.

Discovering Gran Canaria

Martin, a Motorcycle Instructor with an established motorcycle training school in South Manchester, and Joy, an ex-civil servant of 20 years, decided to start the business after holidaying in Gran Canaria and realizing the awesome potential these roads have and how amazing motorcycling in Gran Canaria is. While there are traditional motorcycle hire companies on the Island Joy and Martin wanted to give friendly and flexible approach to touring while offering the best riding experience and by providing informal guided tours for you instead of you spending half the day map reading.

Developing our Motorcycle Tours

After additional research, Joy and Martin realized the huge extent of the road network warranted a full weeks motorcycle tour, and Canary Motorcycle Tours began. With their knowledge of the Island, and Martin professional and extensive knowledge of motorcycles, you can be assured of a professional yet friendly week.

Day 1 Gran Canaria

Upon your arrival at Gran Canaria, you will comfortably settle into your hotel before spending your first night there.

Day 2 Loop around Gran Canaria

For this first day on the road, you will head to the peaks of the island: Pico de Las Nieves and Roque Nublo. You’ll take a coffee break at Cruz de Tejeda, a popular meeting spot for the island’s motorcyclists, especially on this Sunday. Then, after having lunch in Tejeda, a classic Spanish village, you will descend towards the coast and the Bandama crater before reaching the village of Telde.

Day 3 Loop around Gran Canaria

Today you will discover the north of the island with its typical villages: Arucas and its mountain offering a 360° panorama, Firgas and its fountain street, Teror and its basilica, as well as the cave dwellings of Cenobio de Valeron. You will ride between the mountains and banana plantations, giving you a taste of South America.

Day 4 Puerto Morgan - Puerto Nieves

A day on the road filled with gorges, ravines, and canyons on the western part of Gran Canaria, delving into the geological heart of the island. No straight lines here, but winding roads and landscapes reminiscent of American national parks. Lunch break in the highest and most beautiful village of Artenara. Finally, you reach the small resort town of Puerto Nieves for a coastal break.

Day 5 Puerto Nieves - Tenerife

Immediate departure to the island of Tenerife by ferry. Then, you’ll take the central road that ascends from La Laguna, where you can admire the Teide Peak and the national park of the same name. Depending on the weather, you might reach its summit by cable car. Then, passing through the lava field of Pico Viejo, you head to the seaside resort of Garachico.

Day 6 Loop around Tenerife

Back to the heights for a coffee break in one of Tenerife’s most beautiful villages: Masca. You’ll head back to the north of the island and the capital, Santa Cruz, via the east coast, making sure not to miss the UNESCO center of La Laguna.

Day 7 Tenerife - Puerto Mogan

After wandering through the center of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, you’ll take the ferry back to Gran Canaria. You will travel along one of the island’s most beautiful coastal roads to reach Puerto Mogan, where you can enjoy a few more moments on the beach.

Day 8 Gran Canaria

Last moments in the Canary Islands and then it’s back to the airport according to your flight schedule. This marks the end of your motorcycle tour!

On this motorcycle tour covering a distance of 1,600 kilometres, you will ride along curve-packed roads, magnificent gorges and spectacular serpentine roads on a new BMW F 900 GS or BMW R 1300 GS. While doing so, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the landscapes and national parks.

Explore the south-east of Tenerife and get to know the highest-altitude wine-growing regions in Europe. Take part in activities such as surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. During your tour, you will stay at four-star hotels and have the opportunity to relax on stunning beaches, guaranteeing the perfect holiday feeling.

Impressive mountainous routes and breathtaking views

Ideally, you should book your flight to arrive in Tenerife at around 10:00 a.m. You will be picked up and driven to the hotel by our partner. This is also where you will receive your BMW Motorrad. At a group information evening, you will learn everything you need to know about the tour ahead of you, before spending the rest of the evening relaxing.

Your memorable motorcycling trip begins on the second day, at the south-western coast of Tenerife, in Costa Adeje. After driving along the first scenic stretches, amazing views await you, including of the Teide volcano, which looms over the entire island. You will continue your journey along windy passes, before reaching the hotel, where you can enjoy the end of an eventful day.

On the third day of your trip, you can look forward to a motorcycling tour along impressive mountainous roads with breathtaking views. You will visit the Rural de Anga Park, a picturesque nature reserve with a diverse range of wildlife. The second stop on this day will involve a visit to the Forestal Park in Tenerife, an adventure and sports park at the heart of the Canary Islands' forests. In the evening, you will return to Costa Adeje.

On the fourth day, you will start out from Costa Adeje and ride along the coast of the breathtaking Atlantic Ocean and experience unforgettable sights and roads. On this day, you can also look forward to seeing the Pyramids of Guimara, which were built from volcanic rocks. At the end of the day, you can enjoy the ferry crossing to the neighbouring island of Gran Canaria. Here, you will have the opportunity to relax and unwind at your cosy hotel.

Motorcycling trip through a unique volcanic landscape

On the fifth day, exploring the picturesque island of Gran Canaria is the name of the game. Your tour will begin in Las Palmas, the island's capital. On this day, you will conquer the most attractive mountain trails the island has to offer, accompanied by breathtaking views. At the end of the day, you will arrive in Maspalomas, the oldest tourist destination in the southern part of the island of Gran Canaria.

You will start the sixth day in Maspalomas and have the opportunity to enjoy the extremely popular landscape of Caldera de los Marteles. The caldera itself was formed by a volcanic eruption. After a tour of the Los Marteles nature reserve, you can look forward to another ferry crossing back to Costa Adeje on Tenerife. On the seventh day, you will have the opportunity to spend the day relaxing on the beach and enjoying the area. However, if you still want to do some more exploring under your own steam, our partner has prepared a 100-km-long tour for you that is definitely worth taking. The eighth day will be the last day of your motorcycling trip on the Canary Islands. On this day, you will enjoy another classic Spanish breakfast as a farewell meal. Then, our partner will take you to the airport.

An absolutely awesome week of motorcycling with CMT.

A friend had recommended Canary Motorcycle tours. He had said that he’d had an amazing time with them in Grand Canaria so we booked a week with them in Slovenia. Joy collected us from the airport and immediately we felt at ease. She explained what the plan was for the week and we couldn't wait for the next day to start riding in this beautiful part of Europe. Martin and Josè were the tour guides for the week. What characters these guys are. They both have years of experience riding and leading tours. We felt in safe hands. At no time did we feel uneasy, unsettled or not happy with the routes during the tours. Quite the contrary. We just couldn’t get enough riding, We chose not to have a day off riding, instead we asked if we could ride again and Joy and Martin were more than happy to accommodate us and 1 other rider who also wanted to ride another day. During the week we toured through Slovenia, Croatia and Austria. We were amazed by the beauty of these countries. Hidden jewels within Europe. The tours took us on meandering roads, some were single lanes rising high in the forests, others had tight switching backs, endless twisty roads climbing high into the mountains then back down into the valleys. We were spoilt for choice. Each day there were regular coffee, cake and ice cream stops. At no time did any of the group feel pressurised to press on. If the group got split up due to traffic, Jose and Martin always waited to regroup. No one was left behind or lost. We met some wonderful people who were holidaying with us, some riding solo, some 2-up. What a great bunch! I have made some wonderful friends who I will be riding with when I get back to UK. All in all we had an amazing time. I’m missing the VStrom already. A selection of bikes are available to ride to fit your shape, height, etc so if you’re worried that CMT do not have a bike you can ride, don’t worry, they’ll be one for you, whether you’re a solo or riding 2-up. Don’t hesitate to book this tour - if you love mororcycle touring and want to sample these hidden gems that lie within Europe, with some wonderful and amazing people then book yourself a holiday with CMT. You won’t be disappointed. We are booking up again for some winter riding in Gran Canaria at the end of the year. I’ve read the reviews from others who might not share my feelings here, all I’ll say is that you can’t please everyone. No one I rode with for the week had any complaints. In my opinion it’s a perfect holiday but I guess Im biased, I love motorcycling.

Not for everyone, don't get me wrong, personally I loved the roads the weather and the scenery what is not to love, however it was noticed that for some riders for whatever reason this was not their cup of tea, it could be the countless sheer drops, the mountain face just inches from your head or the endless traffic and cyclist, for me I must admit I do like to explore and have an adventure rather than be back at school following the leader, I would also have preferred to choose what bike I hired out and when and where I was riding, so like a few of the group who paid for the week and then only rode one or two days what else do you do with the remaining time, the 4-star Airport Hotel is soulless, situated in a commercial area with several busy roads and 24-hour traffic noise, no atmosphere whatsoever, even after the days ride the freezing pool closed at 6 pm which was around the time you arrived back after the days ride, so would I do it again? YES, but next time I would book a package in a proper Hotel resort and choose one of the latest low mileage machines from one of the many bike hire companies on the island and ride as and when I wanted to and to where I wanted to ride, plus save £500 in total for the package for 2 people, but that is just me.

Hi Tim. To be honest, I´m a little disappointed in this review especially as you last email to me you said We had a lovely time riding with you guys. You are dead right Tim is not everyone’s cup of tea and we don’t shy away from the difficulties and the technicality of the riding here. We highlight this on our website and we put it as a footnote on every email we send out. We too want people to come here, ride all week and have a fabulous time. Thank you for saying how much you enjoyed the roads, weather and scenery. I am slightly confused though as I certainly don’t recall anyone cutting short their riding the week you were here. It does happen though, sometimes when people don’t pay attention to our advice or don’t do their due diligence about riding here, but we certainly can’t be held responsible for their lack of research. To repeat, we certainly don’t shy away from the technically of the riding here. You also stated …., so like a few of the group who paid for the week and then only rode one or two days. I think you are getting confused with the optional rest day Tim, I don’t recall any riders only riding a few days during your week. Our set up, the town and the hotels etc have been chosen specifically for riding in mind, easy access in and out of town to the mountain. It is not a ‘tourist’ or ‘package’ holiday and we don’t cater for general tourists. If people want a beach holiday and all the tourist attractions then you should booked into a tourist hotel in Maspalomas via Tui instead – we are not a travel agent but a motorcycle tour company. I dispute the hotel is soulless. The hotel is spotless, the staff are delightful and friendly and at the end of the day it was your choice to stay there, no one forced you – we have guest who love the 4 star and book in there year after year after year…..you certainly did not look miserable when I saw you there of an evening socialising with other riders, and for the record, the pool, closes at 8.00pm and 6.00pm I am also a bit confused as to why you would even choose to come on a guided tour if you prefer to choose what you rider, when you ride and where you go, you make it sound like a regimented and rigid tour which you know it is not.…….it is a bit like saying I wanted an Indian meal but went for Chinese instead then criticised the Chinese restaurant for not cooking India cuisine…bizarre!! I’m delighted you will come back to the island to ride here. We hope you have a fabulous time now you know where to ride thanks to Canary Motorcycle Tours and if you can get a scheduled package tour in the tourist area, with 2 motorcycles and fuel for 1 week for you and your wife for £500 less then you paid us, then well done and go for it Tim. I am also puzzled about your comment concerning the ages of our motorcycles as most were purchased in the last 2 years, including 4 new NC750s, 4 new V-stroms, and a new CB500x. You mentioned you would have liked low mileage and latest model bike. Have you forgotten what you rode !!!!!! you could not get any more ‘latest’ than 1 of our brand new NC750xDCT bikes, that was not even 2 weeks old which you decided to bury into the side of a tree. Thank you for paying your access, it is a shame we had to use part of the money you paid us to meet the full cost of repair and supplement the loss of income while the damaged bike was off the road. Sadly, there was no mention of how generous were we to give you another bike (albeit it an older modal NC) to allow you to continue your weeks riding with your lovely wife, do you honestly think a hire company would have been so thoughtful and considerate – the answer is no, they wouldn’t, but thank for the 3 stars !!!!!! I can see you haven’t quite gotten over the NC750 incident yet.

A truly great experience and a must for any biker looking for an adventure in the perfect climate! Opted for the multi Island tour, which was excellent value. The booking process was very simple thanks to Joy who picked us up from the airport and gave us a brief for the trip ahead. I was on a Suzuki V-Strom 650 with my wife as pillion which was ideal for these tight technical roads. Originally I was going to try and upgrade to the Africa Twin as I ride a large Adventure bike at home, however I soon realised the 650cc was ample for these type of roads and wanted to be able to have my feet firmly planted two up… These roads are not for the faint hearted and can be challenging in places two up especially, Loved every minute of it!!! Beautiful diverse scenery on each island with great hotels included. We had Martin as our guide on Gran Canaria and Jose for Tenerife & La Gomera. Both were brilliant and super helpful. Local knowledge is key. Will definitely be back!!!

Had a great day with these guys - absolutely epic roads and views … the best way to describe it is “The Grand Canyon meets the Italian Alps” A full day of technical riding with stunning views from towering monoliths of stone to beautiful pine forests and authentic Spanish mountain villages. Not sure I have enough words to explain how much I enjoyed my time with Canary Motorcycle Tours. From booking my trip to being dropped off at the airport, to return home, the experience was first class. From a riding perspective my highlights were the Mini Stelvio and the epic GC-200 that I wanted to do again right after finishing it, amazing road. Not forgetting of course that we spent one day riding with Joy which was fantastic! I rode a Honda NC750 all week, more than enough bike for the roads on Gran Canaria. The routes are technical but extremely rewarding and I came back a much better rider than I arrived. Jose was our guide for the week, what a character and all round nice bloke he is. We rode for five days from around 9am to 4:30pm, long days but with plenty of breaks for the wonderful views, coffee, and lunch. The whole CMT team is welcoming, great fun and utterly professional. Thank God there are people like Joy, Martin, Jose and Ken, the biking world would be a lot poorer without them. I will definitely return and next year hope to ride in Slovenia with CMT . Thank you all so much for one of the best holidays I have ever had, all of the new friends I made and for an unforgettable experience that I will treasure.

We had a fabulous trip with Canary Motorycle Tours and their three island tour in April 2023. I highly recommend the 3 islands tour because the islands are unique and you can have a more varied experience. I really appreciated the flexibility of dates and trip details when we were organizing the trip with Joy. She patiently answered my many questions and helped me to understand the requirements, options and details of the trip. While we were there we had guided tours with Martin and Jose who were both fantastic! I was really impressed at how they focused on the best roads and stopped at perfect viewpoints and worked in coffee & lunch breaks at great places in great intervals. This is a family business that really knows how to organize a trip well, take care of their customers and focus on safety. The customer service and attention was absolutely phenomenal and I highly recommend the Canary Motorcycle Tours for their personal touch and commitment to their customers. We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

This tour exceeded our expectations. Nikolai (Nick), our tour guide, was very knowledgeable, thorough, and has a great personality. He didn't take shortcuts and really covered everything that was on the agenda in great detail. We saw beautiful metro stations and learned the history behind them, including many of the murals and designs.
