New Forest Tour Bus | 3 Open Top Routes [2024]

Touring the New Forest by open top bus is a lovely thing to do, even for locals like us who live on the edge of the National Park. This guide to the New Forest tour bus will tell you all you need to know about taking the three routes around the area .

An open top bus tour of the New Forest allows you to see the sights more closely while enjoying the sunshine. This is one of the warmest and driest parts of the UK, so you might even be pleasantly surprised by the weather. (Though we always pack a mac. Just in case.)

Highlights of the New Forest National Park are all included on the trio of routes offered by local operator morebus (who also run the Purbeck Breezer routes that head west from Bournemouth).

The New Forest lies to the east of Bournemouth and Dorset, and is located in Hampshire. To find out how to explore this National Park by local bus, read on to find out the New Forest bus timetable for each of the three routes. Plus everything else you need to know before you travel!

Let’s hop on board.

Why travel on the New Forest Tour bus?

The open top bus around the New Forest can take you to towns and villages like Ashurst, Barton-on-Sea, Burley, Milford-on-Sea, Brockenhurst, Fordingbridge, Beaulieu and Ringwood.

Routes depart from Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and Totton, and you can board the bus at any of the stops en-route. Tourist attractions like the New Forest Wildlife Park and accommodation such as Sandy Balls, Hoburne and Shorefields Holiday Parks can also be accessed via these buses. The Green route also calls at the Balmer Lawn hotel.

The buses even call at popular places to east and drink along the way, including the tearoom at Holmsley, the Needles Eye cafe, the Rising Sun pub and the Hobler Inn. You can even get to New Milton train station via the Blue Route, which offers direct services to London Waterloo. The Red Route also takes in Ashurst station.

Why take to the wheel when someone else can do the driving and navigating? If you’re visiting the area between late June and mid September, then why not take an enjoyable, scenic New Forest sightseeing bus to get around the area?

New Forest tour tickets

The price you’ll pay to travel on the New Forest Tour bus depends on your age, how large your party is and how often you want to travel. Concessionary fares are also available for those who qualify.

The minimum ticket validity is one day, and the maximum a season ticket that applies throughout the operating dates. Season and 7 day fares only apply to New Forest residents. Visitors can buy tickets valid for 1, 2 or 5 days.

1 day tickets

A ticket valid for one day costs between £7.50 for a resident child and £18 for a non-concessionary, non-resident adult. A group ticket for up to 5 is also available, and will work out cheaper if there are enough of you travelling together.

2, 5, 7 day and season tickets

2, 5 and 7 days tickets can save you money – if you travel on the bus enough to recoup the cost. Don’t forget that 7 day and season passes are exclusively available to New Forest residents.

At £24, a 2-day standard adult ticket is just £6 more than a one day ticket. So it may well be worthwhile. The longer the ticket duration the bigger the discount, but it’s only worth it when you’ll actually use it!

To give you an idea, a 5 day standard adult ticket costs £36 for non-residents. While resident fares are cheaper, verification is required. You’ll thus need to demonstrate you really do live in the New Forest by showing some proof of your address.

morebus ways to pay

You can pay for morebus tickets in various ways. You can usea contactless credit or debit card, cash, or Android or Apple Pay on the bus. It’s also possible to purchase in advance via the website. To do this, you can create an account, then receive a digital ticket to show on your smartphone.

The New Forest Tour – helping you and helping our environment

The New Forest Tour is a key part of our aim to encourage more people to leave their cars at home. Over 40,000 people explored the New Forest National Park on the New Forest Tour bus instead of by car last summer.

The three scenic routes saved an estimated 220,212 private car miles last year, even on a reduced operating schedule. The Tour also provides a boost to local businesses. Last year, it contributed an estimated £660,000 to the New Forest economy while stopping at local villages and attractions.

The Tour stops at local cycle hire centres within the Forest. With each Tour able to carry up to four bikes, it gives access to the area’s quiet country lanes and 100 miles of waymarked cycle tracks .

The Tour is operated by morebus in partnership with the New Forest National Park Authority and is sponsored by local businesses.

NEW FOREST TOUR (Lymington) - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go

Hampshire Bus Update

Touring the New Forest – Open Top style

With the summer fast approaching (or already been and gone) regular special services on the New Forest Tour are already slated for a return.

The routes are planned to run for eleven weeks from 1st July to 17th September and as far as I can see, there are no significant route changes across the three coloured routes.

new forest tour 2023 tickets

The timetables have been registered for a change as well, however at the same time I can not see anything significant in terms of frequency changes. Certainly, because I do not have a copy of last years timetable to hand, the haphazard ‘sometimes hourly – sometimes an hour and a quarter’ type timetable rings a bell.

Maybe the run out from Totton is slightly different this year; it’s not as though there is a depot anywhere nearer that can store a few open toppers! Never understood why they are not based at Lymington(?)

The Prices for the New Forest Tour day tickets are:

  • Adults £19.50
  • Children £11.00
  • Seniors £16.50
  • Group Ticket ( Up to 5 people) £49
  • Two and Five Day tickets are also available

If you are travelling from Southampton, you can also enjoy a free ferry ticket across from Southampton to Hythe on the Blue Funnel Ferry service. The Hythe Ferry connects to the New Forest Tour’s Green route. Well, I presume so as it is advertised on the morebus New Forest Tour , but it is not on the Hythe Ferry website as far as I can see.

Note : If you buy your tour ticket and then want to use the Hythe Ferry; I understand the offer to be a 20% discount when you buy your ferry ticket at Hythe.

If you are travelling from around the area by bus, then Bluestar and morebus also offer a free trip to and from the tour on a number of services including:

  • Morebus X1, X2, X3, X6 from Dorset & Wiltshire
  • Bluestar 6, 8 and 9 from Southampton
  • Morebus 112 from within the New Forest

All the information is available on the New Forest Tour microsite , which is found on the morebus website.

odd they include the 125 route in the add on services

Trying to work out why the 112 is mentioned but not the 119, et al.

With respect, I think you need to recalculate the number of weeks. I make it 11 weeks and one day, making it two weeks longer than last year! Every year, it seems to register a change of timetable, but it only ever amounts to a tweak between timing points. Lymington is at full capacity, which is why it is run by three separate depots.

No idea where I got seven from Ian. You would think I not need my toes to count the weeks!

Featuring 9 brand new tracks including hit single “Eyes Closed”, LOOM signifies new beginnings on the horizon – the excitement for a new day, moments yet to come.

Last year, the members of Imagine Dragons found themselves with a rare and well-deserved break from the road—perhaps their longest in many years. So, they made the most of it by devoting that time to family and friends. Catalyzed by this respite with a refreshed perspective, the band rallied together in the studio and mined the same well of inspiration that fed their most beloved material. The musicians reflected on the past in order to catapult into a future where stylistic boundaries have disappeared entirely and anything is possible creatively. This journey has brought them to their most dynamic and definitive body of work to date, LOOM .

To herald LOOM , the band recently shared their soaring new anthem entitled “Eyes Closed.” Check out the video HERE . The track illuminates their penchant for boundary-breaking. Stretching the limits of the soundscape almost to the breaking point, they harness a burst of energy with a rafter-reaching refrain primed to soar on the upcoming summer tour.

It’s the year of the Dragons …

ABOUT IMAGINE DRAGONS:

Imagine Dragons continue to redefine rock in the 21 st century. Filling stadiums, crafting cloud-rattling anthems, and breaking records at every turn, diamond-certified GRAMMY® Award-winning Las Vegas quartet Imagine Dragons occupy rarified air as one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Tallying cumulative sales of 74 million album equivalents, 65 million digital songs, and over 160 billion streams, they stand out as “the only band in history to earn four RIAA Diamond singles , ” namely “Radioactive” (16x-platinum), “Believer” (13x-platinum), “Thunder” (12x-platinum) and “Demons” (11x-platinum). Since emerging in 2009, they’ve scored five consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 with Night Visions [2012] (7x-platinum) (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope), Smoke+Mirrors [2015] (platinum) (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope), Evolve [2017] (triple-platinum) (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope), Origins [2018] (platinum)(KIDinaKORNER/Interscope), and Mercury – Act 1 [2021]( KIDinaKORNER/Interscope). With the release of Mercury – Act 2 (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope) in 2022, they completed their first double-album opus produced by the legendary Rick Rubin. The hit single “Bones,” featured on Mercury Act 2, went to number one at Alternative Radio and remains in the Global Top 50 on Spotify. The band’s hit collaboration with East Atlanta-based rapper J.I.D, “Enemy,” has racked up billions of global streams and landed at #6 on the IFPI Global Singles Chart for 2022. Dominating radio, they remain one of only four bands to ever achieve consecutive Top 5 singles at Alternative radio, and the only band to repeat this feat. Most recently, Imagine Dragons made history on Spotify, as “Bad Liar” became their 10th song to surpass 1 billion streams. The band now holds the crown for the group with most billion-plus streamed songs, becoming the first in the platform’s history to have ten songs reach this milestone. Meanwhile, Imagine Dragons’ music videos for hits “Thunder” and “Believer” have garnered an astounding 2 billion YouTube views, while videos for “Radioactive” and “Demons” have surpassed over 1 billion views.  They’ve collaborated with everyone from Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, and Wiz Khalifa to Avicii and film composer Hans Zimmer. Giving back, they’ve raised millions for various causes, including their pediatric cancer charity the Tyler Robinson Foundation, and frontman Dan Reynolds’ LOVELOUD Foundation and festival in support of LGBTQ+ youth. In 2022, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky named them ambassadors for UNITED 24, which benefits humanitarian aid in Ukraine. Imagine Dragons earned an impressive four nominations for the 2022 American Music Awards including “Favorite Pop Duo or Group,” “Favorite Rock Artist,” “Favorite Rock Album” and “Favorite Rock Song.” The band was also nominated for “Group of 2022” for the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. Most recently, they received an MTV VMA nomination for “Video For Good” for their acclaimed “Crushed” music video.

Of course, fans are desperate to see Billie live again – and they're in luck! In a new Instagram photo , Billie has now confirmed the tour alongside a huge list of dates and cities.

Tickets for Billie's Hit Me Hard And Soft Tour will go on sale on general sale on May 3rd – and yes, there will be several presales.

Presales for tickets will begin on April 30th, through to May 1st. Per Billie's Instagram post, fans will be alerted via email for the presales in their country.

Similar to the Happier Than Ever Tour , there will likely be a Citi Verified Fan Presale in the US and an O2 Priority Presale in the UK. It's also possible that there will be separate Live Nation and fan presales.

American Express card members will also have early access to a limited supply of tickets when using an AMEX card to buy tickets.

To give yourself the best chance of getting tickets, we recommend signing up to Billie's mailing list to get any presale information as soon as it becomes available.
