How to Apply for a Philippine Visa for UAE Expats

how to apply philippine visa

Expats in the UAE who have plans of visiting the Philippines but may need to secure a visa beforehand, below is a step by step guide on how to get a tourist visa to the Philippines as shared by one of our contributors.

Before anything else you will need to check if your country passport is included in this list of countries who do NOT need to apply for a visa to enter the Philippines . If your country is not on the list, then please see the procedure below.

—————————————–

If you’re a Kabayan reading this blog, you probably have someone special in mind to bring home to meet your family – or else, you’re a Kabayan’ s special someone.

In both cases, you’ve made a great (and cheap) holiday choice.

Applying for a Philippine Visa is not rocket science, but as with other visa applications, it mainly requires 2 Ps: patience and papers (lots of them).

A UAE Expat’s Guide to Applying for a Philippine Visa

Note: I’m sharing my husband’s experience as a first-time Philippine Visa applicant. He is an Egyptian national. Please check the list of visa-exempted countries on the Philippine Department of Affairs website, as you may not need a visa to enter the Philippines.

Step 1: Prepare all the required documents.

  • Accomplished computerized  Visa Application Forms  (2 copies). Available on both the  Dubai Consulate  and  Abu Dhabi Embassy
  • Recent ID photos (2 copies). Not older than 6 months.
  • Original Passport with UAE Residence Visa . Valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of departure from the Philippines
  • Passport Data Page  (2 copies)
  • UAE Visa Stamp  (2 copies)
  • Your job position
  • Period of employment
  • Gross monthly salary
  • Additional Note: The No Objection Letter should be printed on a company letterhead, signed by an authorized personnel and sealed with the company stamp.
  • If self-employed (i.e. company owner), your  Company Trade License  (2 copies)
  • Proof of financial capacity. Either your most recent  Bank Statements  (past 3 months) or your  Salary Certificate  (printed on a company letterhead, signed by an authorized personnel and sealed with the company stamp)
  • Flight Booking
  • Hotel Booking  or Invitation  Letter  from a Philippine sponsor with a copy of his/her passport or any valid identification card
  • Our  Original Report of Marriage  (attested by the Philippine Embassy of Abu Dhabi)
  • My Passport Data Page  (2 copies)

You can get the full list of requirements on both the  Philippine Consulate of Dubai website  and the  Philippine Embassy of Abu Dhabi website .

The main difference between the two is that the Embassy requires a Police Clearance issued by the UAE Ministry of Interior, applicable for all visa applicants aged 18 and above. You can order your Police Clearance  here.

Step 2: Bring all your requirements to the Embassy or Consulate.

Dubai visa holders can apply at the Philippine Consulate in Dubai , while Abu Dhabi visa holders can apply at the Philippine in Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

If you are a Dubai visa holder assigned in Abu Dhabi, submit a written proof of your job assignment, so that you can apply in Abu Dhabi (this can be mentioned as a single sentence on your NOC letter).

First-time Philippine Visa applicants need to make a personal appearance in either the Dubai Consulate or Abu Dhabi Embassy between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. from Sundays to Thursdays (Ramadan hours may change).

When you enter the gate, proceed to the information desk and ask for a priority number for the Visa Section.

The Visa Officer will not keep your passport on your first visit. Instead, he/she will advise you to come back on a specific day (usually after 10 working days), which is when he/she will collect your passport for stamping.

Also, you will only pay AED 100 on your first visit.

The remaining AED 160 is payable on the assigned date of stamping.

Step 3: Return to the Consulate/Embassy on the appointed date between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. with your original passport and the remaining visa fee.

Alternatively, you may now ask a representative to submit your passport for you, since you had already made your personal appearance 10 working days before.

Step 4: Collect your visa between 3:00-5:00 p.m. of the same day.

Yes, you need to wait for at least another 3 hours for your passport and visa to be released.

Step 5: Enjoy your holiday!

It’s always more fun in the Philippines!

How to Apply for a Visa to the Philippines

Non-Immigrant Visa Requirements

Non-quota immigrant visa requirements.

Downloadable Forms

A visa does not guarantee that the holder will be automatically admitted to the country.   The admission of foreign nationals to the Philippines is a function of the immigration officials at the port of entry. Philippine immigration authorities  will not allow entry  into Philippine airports and seaports for the following foreign nationals:

  • Those holding non-machine-readable passports (e.g. hand scripted passports); or
  • Those previously deported from the Philippines or included in the “blacklist order” of the Department of Foreign Affairs or Bureau of Immigration; or
  • Those with incomplete documentation; or
  • Those with circumstances that would render them inadmissible for entry, even with a valid passport and visa issued by a Philippine Consulate.

PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE YOUR AIRLINE TICKET UNLESS AND UNTIL YOUR PHILIPPINE VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED.

The Consulate cannot guarantee the approval, and issuance, of the visa before the applicant’s flight schedule. Applicants, however, may submit a temporary flight booking/reservation to comply with the requirements.

THE CONSULATE WILL NOT:

-Expedite the visa processing to accommodate the visa applicant’s flight schedule; -Refund the visa application fee if the visa is issued later than your flight departure date or if the visa application is denied or cancelled.

PHILIPPINE VISA POLICY

Check if your passport will require a visa for entry to the philippines by searching the table below for the country that issued your passport., balikbayan visa-free privilege.

The following categories of person can avail of Balikbayan privilege:  (a) a Filipino citizen who has been continuously out of the Philippines for a period of at least one (1) year from the date of last departure; (b) a Filipino overseas worker (OFW); (c) a former Filipino citizen who was naturalized in a foreign country and holds  a foreign passport.

Nationals of countries who fall under Executive Order 408 and are family members (spouse and children holding foreign passports) of a Balikbayan (returning Filipino citizen or former Filipino citizen) are entitled to a visa-free entry to the Philippines for a maximum stay of one (1) year from the date of their arrival in the country.  They shall be admitted as Balikbayans on condition that they (i) travel with a Balikbayan and (ii) observe and comply with immigration rules and regulations.

Returning  Balikbayans  or former Filipinos should present the following to immigration officials at the port of entry:

  • Passport valid for six (6) months beyond the intended stay in the Philippines;
  • Proof of former Philippine citizenship (e.g. old Philippine passport or PSA-issued birth certificate). Please note that a foreign passport indicating “Philippines” as your place of birth is not sufficient proof of your previous Filipino citizenship.

Family members of Balikbayans are advised to bring with them proof of relationship or affiliation with the Balikbayan such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.

However, a former Filipino citizen who acquired the citizenship of a country that falls under the visa-required nationals category per Philippine visa regulations, or his/her family member whose nationality also falls under the cited category, is not entitled to a Balikbayan privilege and is required to obtain an entry visa to the Philippines.

For more information on the Balikbayan Privilege, click here:  https://immigration.gov.ph/faqs/  scroll down to Visa Inquiry – Balikbayan Privilege

EXTENSION OF STAY

If you wish to stay in the Philippines beyond the authorized period, the foreign national will have to apply for an extension of stay with the Philippine Bureau of Immigration at least one week prior to the expiration of the valid stay.  For more information on securing an extension of stay, please visit the following link:  https://immigration.gov.ph/faqs/  scroll down to the section on Extension of Stay

Getting a visa to the Philippines is easy. However, there are special cases such as Filipinos in Dubai who can apply for a Philippine tourist visa.

It’s bad enough that Pakistani nationals have to fly far from the comfort of their homes. But since the events of 9/11, flying in a plane for a Pakistani national living in Dubai or Abu Dhabi is much worse. It’s not just about long queues at check-in and immigration. Both locations have airports which don’t welcome non-residents, even if they’re transit passengers. And with UAE visas lasting only 30-days, you’re practically stranded unless you’d want to travel all the way back to Pakistan.

The Philippines is an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia, consisting of over a thousand islands. It is a country known for its countless, sandy beaches, stunning natural beauty, and culture.

To visit the Philippines, you may have to apply for a Philippines visa, although citizens of several countries are exempt.

If the initial number of days you were allowed to stay was 30 days, and you want to extend your stay for another 29 days, then you can apply for a Visa Waiver from the Philippines Immigration Bureau at least one week before your stay ends.

If you have already stayed in the Philippines for 59 days, and want to stay beyond that, you have to apply for an Extension of Stay from the Immigration Bureau in the Philippines.

You can apply for an extension of: 1 month, 2 months, and 6 months.

If you enter under visa-waiver, you can extend your stay for up to 36 months.

If you enter with a Philippines visa, you can extend your stay for up to 24 months.

Mapped: New mpox cases reported. What countries have it now?

A new, potentially more deadly strain of the virus is rapidly spreading within Africa and has been discovered in Asia and Europe.

Mpox isolation ward Pakistan

Uganda has reported two new cases of the clade 1b strain of  the mpox virus .

The health ministry has announced that one of the patients is a truck driver and that both are in isolation at a hospital in Entebbe, about an hour south of the capital.

Public health emergency as global mpox cases confirmed, what is mpox and how do you protect yourself, thailand says mpox detected in european who travelled from africa, mpox not the new covid, says who.

As mpox spreads, concerns are rising about the confirmed cases of 1b, a new and potentially deadlier strain.

Where has mpox spread?

Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, the Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, South Africa, Sweden, Thailand and Uganda have reported cases – a total of 18.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the virus a “public health emergency of international concern” while emphasising that mpox is “ not the new COVID “.

This is the second emergency alert relating to mpox from the global health agency in two years.

Mpox has been identified in Africa since 2022, originally traced to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The current outbreak is mostly triggered by Clade 1, believed to be a more serious variant that can spread through skin-to-skin contact.

In 2023, a new strain of Clade 1 was discovered in DRC – Clade 1b.

A different outbreak of the virus’s earlier Clade 2 variant is also spreading, although at lower levels, with more than 100 countries reporting infections by last month.

Clade 2 is believed to cause milder infections and has a fatality rate of 0.2 percent compared with 3.9 percent for Clade 1.

Here’s where mpox disease has spread from January to August this year:

According to data from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), WHO, and the governments of Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda and the Ivory Coast, variants of Mpox have been detected in these countries this year:

Clade 1 and Clade 1a

  • Burundi (eight cases, zero deaths)
  • Cameroon (35, two)
  • Central African Republic (213, zero)
  • Republic of Congo (146, one)
  • DRC (13,791, 450)
  • Rwanda (two, zero)
  • Uganda (four, zero)
  • Kenya (one, zero)
  • Mozambique (one, zero)
  • Ivory Coast (28, one)
  • Ghana (four, zero)
  • Liberia (five, zero)
  • Nigeria (24, zero)
  • South Africa (22, three)

The DRC is experiencing the biggest outbreak of the disease ever recorded with thousands of people infected as of August 21. The government declared an epidemic in December 2022 .

Nearly all reported Mpox cases – 96 percent – across Africa are in the DRC, where children younger than 15 account for 60 percent of the cases, Africa CDC said.

The new Clade 1b strain has been detected in countries neighbouring the DRC: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, which had not previously reported any cases since the outbreak began in 2022.

In West Africa and Southern Africa, the outbreaks are linked to the Clade 2 variant. Cameroon is reporting both Clades 1 and 2.

So far, 541 deaths have been recorded from mpox, with 535 in the DRC (97 percent). The Africa CDC does not classify deaths according to strain.

  • Pakistan (one, zero)
  • Philippines (one case, zero deaths)
  • Thailand (one, zero)

The Philippines, Thailand and Pakistan reported new mpox cases in August.

In Thailand, authorities confirmed a new case of Clade 1b on Thursday, Asia’s first case of the new strain.

The individual, identified as a 66-year-old European male, reportedly returned from an unnamed African country currently experiencing a “large” outbreak of the Clade 1 variant.

He reportedly does not have serious symptoms and was believed to have transited through a Middle Eastern country en route to Thailand.

In the Philippines, authorities said the milder Clade 2 variant has been confirmed in the most recent case there – a 33-year-old Filipino male with no travel history.

The patient is the country’s 10th confirmed case since 2022 and authorities say mpox has likely been spreading quietly for a while.

Pakistani authorities said its first patient reported this year is a male infected with Clade 2.

However, authorities said last week they are trying to trace the patient, who is believed to have travelled to another province before the test results were released.

  •  Sweden (one case, zero deaths)

Sweden reported an mpox case on August 15 which was confirmed to be the more serious Clade 1 variant.

It is “highly likely” that Europe will record more cases of Clade 1 because of frequent air travel between Europe and Africa, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

However, sustained transmission might be low in Europe if cases are quickly diagnosed and if testing, surveillance and contact tracing are used, the agency said. The European Union has ruled out closing its borders to hard-hit countries.

Americas, Middle East, Oceania and Antarctica

No countries in North or South America have reported new Clade 1 cases so far.

However, they should be “alert” to possible Clade 1 and Clade 2 cases, the Pan American Health Organization said on August 9.

The region reported more than 62,000 cases of the Clade 2 virus from 2022 to July 2024, including 141 deaths.

There are no confirmed cases of Clade 1 in Oceania or the Middle East.
