History of Pinewood Studios
?? Heatherden Hall, near the village of Iver in Buckinghamshire is built. Heatherden Hall is purchased by Lt. Col. Grant Morden, a Canadian financier, who transformed the mansion by adding a huge ballroom and Turkish bath.
1920s Heatherden Hall became a retreat and private meeting place for politicians and diplomats.
1921 In November 1921 the Irish Free State Treaty was signed at the Hall (agreement to form the Irish Free State).
1931 British Pathe Newsreel about Heatherden Hall
1934 When Grant Morden died in 1934 the estate was purchased at auction by Charles Boot for £30,000 who had recently inherited a large construction firm from his father Henry Boot, who died in 1931. Within twelve months Charles Boot transformed Heatherden Hall into the office building for a new movie complex which occupied the grounds, a project Boot worked on with J.Arthur Rank. There are two main fronts to the mansion, one very formal 3 story entrance and another that is mostly seen in films. A conservatory has been added to this front where the door was. Along the side is the grand Ballroom. The house has extensive grounds with formal gardens and lakes, plants and features. There are many trees surrounding the manor which is where the name “Pinewood” originated from. The house has been featured in many British films, including The Amazing Mr Blunden, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, From Russia with Love (as the SPECTRE headquarters) and the Carry On films, and in such television series as One Foot in the Grave and Midsomer Murders.
1935 November – Construction starts on the Studios.
1936 30th September – The studios are officially opened.[2] The first production to take place at Pinewood was London Melody in 1936. The first complete production (from start to end) at Pinewood was Carol Reed’s Talk of the Devil. [2] There was a celebration to launch the studio on D Stage, where London Melody was starting shooting.
1947 A landmark year for the studio, with six major productionsat Pinewood, including Oliver Twist, directed by David Lean, and the £500,000 production of The Red Shoes.

Who knows if you’ll be lucky to see some filming taking place on the day.
Part 5: Pinewood Studios, and a photo-stop at a covert meeting with M
There will also be a short photo-stop outside Pinewood Studios. The studio is the leading destination for filmmakers and where the Bond films have been made since Dr No in 1962. As part of the famous studios’ expansion, the 007 Studios will be opening to the public to drop some super secret intelligence secrets. I think that calls for a Martini…
Pinewood Studios has been the home to many smash hits, including the latest Bond outing No Time To Die , and the £500 million expansion will give visitors a glimpse into its workings.

Paul Golding, chairman of Pinewood Group, said: “The decision allows us to continue our ongoing investment in the Studios and support for the UK film and television industries. We now have the opportunity of creating a world-class training centre and film-inspired visitor attraction.”

Pinewood Studios, Pinewood Road, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, SL0 0NH, United Kingdom
Featured in Dr No (1962), From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967), On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), Diamonds Are Forever (1971), Live And Let Die (1973), The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), A View To A Kill (1985), The Living Daylights (1987), Goldeneye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), Die Another Day (2002), Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008) and Skyfall (2012)
The James Bond franchise has had a strong connection with Pinewood Studios since Dr No in 1962. Acting as a base of operations for the James Bond films, many scenes from the films have been shot at these famous studios. Often taking over the whole studio, the early Bond films found inventive ways to film the studios own buildings. Scenes such as the car chase in Goldfinger 's factory, and SPECTRE island in From Russia With Love, where filmed used various actual buildings around the studios. Even the studios parks have been used in films like The World Is Not Enough.
Located approximately 20 miles outside of London, Pinewood Studios was formerly manor houses dating back to the 17th century, however the site at Pinewood was not created until 1935. The studios has seen many films, television programmes, commercial and even promotional events and rehearsals being filmed at its historic location. From Lara Croft to Superman, Harry Potter to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Spooks to The Weakest Link, there have been many stars and shows to film at Pinewood. It's stages and back-lots have become ice palaces, Cambodian tombs, space ships, Paris Operas - in fact anywhere in the world and absolutely anything that can be dreamed up from the imaginations of famous directors, is created here.
Pinewood contains many stages all of different sizes and types. From the very smallest stage (where scenes such as the torture scene in Casino Royale were filmed) to the unique underwater stage, Pinewood has it all. However it's the famous 007 stage that is the first thing that springs to mind when you think about Pinewood. The filming of The Spy Who Loved Me in 1966-67 created a few logistical problems when the script involved filming two submarines inside an oil tanker. Actual filming inside a tanker was out of the question due to insurance and financial reasons, so the creation of the 007 stage, a massive set with one of the largest water tanks was given. The original stage actually burnt to the ground in a accident in 1984, but was rebuilt extremely quickly and renamed the "Albert R. Broccoli 007 Stage".
Another fire on 30th July 2006 caused serious damage to the stage only days after filming had finished for Casino Royale. The remains of the mangled and twisted structure were demolished in September 2006, and were rebuilt in less than six months.
Pinewood is closed to the public, however look out for special events held by Bondstars.com , which often include tours of studios, inside the 007 stage and meeting special guests. §

Pinewood Group has been granted permission to begin planning an expansion of Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom, which will include a film-inspired visitor attraction.
As reported by Blooloop , Pinewood Group’s application for the expansion has been approved by Buckinghamshire Council, meaning that the company can move forward with plans to develop the £500m (About $668 million USD) Screen Hub UK, located adjacent to Pinewood Studios.

The world-famous 007 Stage
The Albert R. Broccoli 007 Stage at Pinewood was built in 1976 for the Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me . It has been home to the Cambodian Temples for Lara Croft: Tomb Raider , The Louvre Gallery in The Da Vinci Code and The Chocolate River Room in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory . In 2007 the new 007 Stage opened and housed the Greek fishing village for Mamma Mia! , as well as sets for Bond movie SPECTRE , the Fountain of Youth in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides , and the Summit, Camp Four and Hilary's Step in Everest .
Tank Specifications
History of the 007 stage.
The stage was originally conceived in 1976 by production designer Ken Adam to house the set he had designed for the interior of the Liparus supertanker in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me .
The stage's construction cost $1.8 million. The stage was christened the "007 Stage" on 5 December 1976 during a ceremony attended by former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson. In contrast to the volcano crater set Adam had built for You Only Live Twice in 1966, the 007 Stage was to be a permanent structure that could be rented out to other productions.
The 007 Stage burnt to the ground on 27 June 1984 towards the end of filming of Ridley Scott's Legend. It was rebuilt, and reopened in January 1985, with the new name, "Albert R. Broccoli 007 Stage", in time for filming to commence on A View to a Kill (1985).
Another fire occurred on 30 July 2006. The fire occurred just after production ended on the Bond film Casino Royale while the Venetian piazza set was being dismantled. Eight fire engines took 90 minutes to bring the fire under control; a spokesman for the local fire brigade said gas canisters may have exploded inside the building. Filming had been completed on the stage several days before and it was being dismantled, so it did not delay production or release of the film.
The damage to the building was extensive causing the roof of the building to collapse. On 31 July 2006, Pinewood issued a statement indicating that the stage "will need to be demolished and rebuilt" and that there had been no casualties in the incident. The fire-damaged stage was demolished on 13–14 September.
Construction on the new stage began on 18 September and was completed in under 6 months. The new stage was redesigned and included a number of new features including an increased working floor space area, enclosed stairwells to the gantry, a vehicle ramp into the tank, aircraft hangar-style loading doors, increased electrical power and better insulation. The new stage is 374 feet (114 m) long, 158 feet (48 m) wide and 41 to 50 feet (15 m) high (114 x 48 x 12–15 m). The stage is the biggest in Europe around 59,000 sq ft (5,500 m2).
