4 reasons to choose an Asian cruise
To take in the unique sights
From the giant dragons of Komodo National Park to the powdery sand of the Pink Beach in Indonesia, and from the 3,000 temples of Bagan in Myanmar to the thousands of orangutans living in the Tanjung Puting reserve in Malaysia, every country in Asia is brimming with natural and man-made wonders .
To appreciate the beauty of nature
Do you dream of sailing Ha Long Bay in Vietnam or navigating the canals of Alappuzha in India? How about basking on the desert islands and idyllic beaches of Thailand and the Philippines, wandering the rice terraces of Bali, or tackling Mount Fuji? Whether you are at sea or on land, a cruise in Asia offers no shortage of spectacular landscapes : steep mountains, sugarloaf formations, volcanoes, old-growth jungles, rivers, waterfalls, shimmering lakes, and calm or turbulent seas.
To immerse yourself in diverse cultures
Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism... Even the most isolated regions are home to numerous temples, reflecting the spirituality and serenity of the area. Known for their delicate and harmonious architecture, these sanctuaries are often embellished with gold, statues and bas-reliefs, offering visitors a real visual spectacle. Religion and culture are inextricably linked, marked by thousands of years of history. As a result, each area has its own unique way of life. Japan, for example, boasts numerous distinctive landmarks and traditions, from the imperial cities to Geisha performances.
To visit some of the most modern cities in the world
Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore… Located at the crossroads of Asia, these megalopolises are all looking to the future. Where East meets West , small markets meet stylish shops, and skyscrapers meet historic neighbourhoods and colonial districts, the cosmopolitan cities of Asia epitomise the complex nature of this continent, allowing it to take its rightful place on the world stage .
Visit Komodo National Park - Indonesia
A trip to Komodo National Park is like travelling millions of years back in time. However, it is not dinosaurs who roam the land, but the famous Komodo dragons . These giant lizards can reach up to three metres in length and weigh as much as 120 kg. 2,500 dragons live in the park, which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986. Covering 29 islands, this vast territory is also known for its unique landscapes, including tropical forests, white sand beaches, savannas and mountain ranges.
Navigate Ha Long Bay - Vietnam
Certain landscapes can only truly be appreciated by boat: a cruise through the 1,969 karst islets of Ha Long Bay is the ultimate escape from reality. The traditional junks unfurl their orange sails against a backdrop of inland lakes, coves and caves filled with monumental stalactites and stalagmites, creating an unforgettable picture.
Take in the magic of Ninh Binh - Vietnam
Known as the inland Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh bears a striking resemblance to its coastal counterpart, with sugarloaf formations rising above the Ngo Dong River . Excursions in small traditional boats are a popular way to admire the rice fields along the shores and explore the region's three most famous caves. Ninh Binh is home to many impressive landmarks, including Cúc Phương National Park , one of the country's best preserved tropical forests, and the Bich Dong pagoda .
Explore the Gardens by the Bay - Singapore
Singapore has taken the concept of a botanical garden to a whole new level. Made up of three gardens covering 101 hectares, the Gardens by the Bay showcase an incredible variety of flora in the middle of the city. Contained in a glass dome, the Cloud Forest is one of the gardens' most spectacular attractions: a 35-metre hill covered with lush vegetation surrounds the tallest indoor waterfall in the world. Outside, the landscape is dominated by the iconic Supertrees , measuring up to 50 metres.
Travel back in time in Matsue, the city of Samurai - Japan
Known as "water city", the castle town of Matsue is located in the south of Japan, where Nakaumi Lagoon meets Lake Shinji. It is renowned for its stunning scenery, spectacular sunsets and fascinating history. Its six-storey castle and keep , erected in 1611, are among the last twelve surviving structures from feudal Japan. Nearby, a former samurai residence explores the everyday life of these Edo warriors.
Make a pilgrimage to Mount Fuji - Japan
Appearing above the cherry blossoms, the snowy summit of Mount Fuji is the symbol of Japan. The ultimate romantic setting, this revered mountain was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013 as a “sacred place and source of artistic inspiration”. Offering spectacular views of the landscape, the Shinto shrine of Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha is well worth a visit. Built 1,000 years ago, it is the head temple of the country's 1,300 Asama shrines, dedicated to the spirits of volcanoes and Mount Fuji in particular.
Relax on the extraordinary sand of the Pink Beach - Indonesia
One of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Pink Beach in the Komodo archipelago owes its name to its unique sand, which is formed by the coral in the water. The powdery pink sand melts into the brilliant blue water against a backdrop of green hills, creating a world of colour . It is also the perfect spot for swimming or snorkelling, letting you admire the famous corals and the multicoloured fish that feed there.
Experience the wonder of Borobudur - Indonesia
Built in the 8th and 9th centuries in the centre of the island of Java, the Buddhist temple of Borobudur is a pilgrimage site and an architectural marvel, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1991. Its interior galleries are covered with bas-reliefs evoking the life of Buddha, all carved on site. At the top of the temple, the terrace, featuring 72 magnificent openwork stupas, offers incredible views of the surrounding landscape.
Wander the rice terraces of Bali - Indonesia
Known as a paradise for surfing and yoga, Bali is also a haven of peace and tranquillity. This sense of serenity reaches its zenith at the heart of the island, in the rice fields of Tegallalang. Surrounded by luxuriant vegetation, these terraces cascade down to the bottom of the valley. In a thousand shades of green, the landscape seems to shift and change in the sunlight. This is Bali at its most authentic.
Escape from reality in El Nido - Philippines
El Nido is the gateway to a hidden paradise . To access the secret beaches , visitors have to take a small outrigger through a series of bays and lagoons. The verdant rocky islets create a striking contrast against the turquoise water, which is ideal for swimming and snorkelling. What better place to get away from it all?
Come face to face with the Terracotta Army of Xi'an - China
Founded 3,100 years ago, Xi'an is counted among the oldest cities in China. It is also one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China , singled out by the country's major dynasties. Xi'an owes its most famous attraction to the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang : an army of 8,000 terracotta statues . Complete with their equipment, chariots and horses, the army is made up of life-size soldiers of every rank, each with their own distinctive features. Standing guard over the emperor's mausoleum since the 3rd century BC, they make an impressive sight.
Visit the ancient imperial capitals - Japan
The cities of Kyoto and Nara offer travellers a unique insight into the history of Japan. Nara was the capital of the Empire of the Sun during the 8th century. Temples and shrines from the period can still be visited today, including Tōdai-ji , the largest wooden temple in the world. As for Kyoto , it was the capital of the country for over ten centuries, from 794 to 1898. A visit to this iconic city—recognised as the cradle of traditional Japanese culture —is an opportunity to discover magnificent temples, practice meditation, experience a tea ceremony, or attend a Geisha performance.
Meet the orangutans - Malaysia
Created in 1971 and classified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1977, Tanjung Puting National Park is one of the few places in the world where orangutans can still enjoy a level of freedom. It is currently home to 6,000 animals, which constitutes the largest orangutan population in the world. This park also acts as a rehabilitation centre for orphaned, abused or illegally captured orangutans, working to release them back into their natural habitat. From building a nest to finding food and moving between the trees, this re-education process can take several years. In the meantime, the high point of their day is always mealtime, when the forest rangers serve a delicious selection of fruit on special feeding trays.
Sail away to the Koh Rok Islands - Thailand
30 km to the south of Koh Lanta, the two Koh Rok islands are located within sight of one another. Separated by around a hundred metres, these charming uninhabited islets are the ideal spot for a relaxing getaway. The vibrant green water contrasts against the fine white sand, where palm trees provide welcome shade between swims. A slice of heaven on earth, the Koh Rok islands are untouched by time.
Breathe in the history of Bagan - Myanmar
The hot air balloons eclipse the setting sun over the temples of Bagan , transporting travellers into a world of wonder. Appearing on few tourist itineraries, Myanmar offers curious visitors the chance to discover a beautiful and perfectly preserved landscape. Bagan exemplifies the poetry and spirituality of the country. The capital of the First Burmese Empire was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2019 thanks to its remarkable collection of over 2,800 monuments .
Ports of call in Asia
The best way to experience Asia is to visit its ports of call on a cruise. Each country offers unique experiences: sailing in Halong Bay, exploring the rice terraces of Bali, confronting Mount Fuji in Japan, discovering the cosmopolitan cities of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangkok or Singapore... Between ancestral traditions and forward-looking megalopolises, experience the rhythm of the Far East.

Our cruises Atlantic Coast
Bijagos & cape verde, canary islands, why tour the atlantic coast.
We often think of them as stormy and inhospitable. Yet, to travel along the Atlantic coasts of Europe and Africa and be faced with the beauty and majesty of the scenery and destinations is to experience a compelling sense of peace and tranquillity. Here are three reasons to sail the Atlantic coast.
Essential Atlantic Coast
From Brittany to the Bissagos Islands, via the Spanish and Portuguese coasts, Madeira and the Azores, a cruise along the Atlantic coast of Europe and Africa is sure to provide interesting encounters and an opportunity to get acquainted with amazing cultures while you travel through a mosaic of contrasting landscapes. You're sure to have a fantastic time. Below is what we recommend you do in the Atlantic region .
Explore Atlantic coast
Five sites to visit in the Azores
PONANT Discovery: the story of a scouting voyage to the Bissagos Islands
Off the beaten path
Whether on some of the 88 Bissagos Islands or those of Cape Verde ; whether stopping off at one of Madeira's little isles or visiting one of the dots of land that make up the Azores , a cruise is the best way to visit the isolated Atlantic coastline . Arriving at these places from the water, they reveal their incredible riches and unspoilt authenticity.
Discover a cultural melting pot
Like elsewhere, in the Atlantic region a variety of influences have created a real cultural melting pot. The influence of Africa and Portugal in Cape Verde and the Bissagos Islands can be seen in culinary traditions, animistic rites, and rhythms and songs. Further north, the Azores and Madeira cultivate their sense of Portuguese belonging while standing out for their insularity and distance from the country. However, you do find that feeling of saudade (nostalgic longing), Portuguese architecture, and handicrafts reminiscent of the continent here. Azulejos decorate the walls and Manueline gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles are found in the cathedrals and other historic landmarks.
Enjoy magnificent scenery
Lava flows and fumeroles in the Azores, subtropical forest and black-sand beaches on Madeira, unspoilt nature and mangroves in the Bissagos Islands, vast expanses of sand and craggy terrain in Cape Verde, authentic city centres in Lisbon and Porto, picturesque islands off the coast of France... The climates in these places and the resulting natural surroundings are quite unlike each other. Landscapes carved by the wind, wild waters and different amounts of sun and rain create a surprising amount of diversity .
Watch whales and dolphins off Madeira
640 km from the Moroccan coast, Madeira is a piece of Portugal on its own in the Atlantic Ocean... It's also a paradise for lovers of marine animals . Climb aboard a semi-rigid speedboat for a wild ride . Short-finned pilot whales, common bottlenose dolphins , Atlantic spotted dolphins and short-beaked common dolphins are happy to swim alongside little boats that approach. Other animals including sea turtles, Risso's dolphins and beaked whales can also venture into these waters.
Travel back in time - Canaries
Outside Las Palmas, the El Guriete viewpoint offers a magnificent panorama over the surrounding mountains. You can see the caves used as homes, tombs and refuges by locals until the end of the 15th century. A museum and archaeological site explain how these local people lived off hunting, fishing and a little farming and display tools and other items found in situ. To continue this journey back in time, go to Santa Lucia to visit its last traditional oil mill and an old Temisas troglodyte house.
Take part in a Cape Verde cookery class
With its Portuguese and African influences , Cape Verde cuisine is rich in subtle flavour combinations . Fish, seafood, goat, pork and chicken go alongside tropical fruit and vegetables, and plenty of spices and a variety of aromatic herbs. They are served with maize, dry pulses, cassava and sweet potato. The goat's cheese and local wine are worth a special mention. Having prepared delicious dishes with a chef in Mindelo on São Vicente Island, all you need to do is enjoy the fruits of your labour!
Meet the Bissagos people
Meeting this authentic people in the heart of the isolated Bissagos Islands is an unforgettable experience. The Bissagos have maintained age-old customs and rites structuring their society. These animist people live in complete harmony with nature , which meets all their food and medical needs. The islands harbour large amounts of rice, cashews, fruits and vegetables, fish, shellfish and game. They are also organised in an interesting way, with men not having a say except the village chief. Priestesses are the ones who make important decisions for the community and women enjoy a sense of freedom that many might envy.
Recharge your batteries in the Azores
Anyone who enjoys hikes and landscapes shaped by seismic activity will like the Azores . Lajes do Pico boasts the highest peak in Portugal at 2351 metres. The many lava flows in the region have also made the island famous. On Faial, Cabeço Verde and the many volcanic cones and the Capelinhos volcano have carved out the landscape with flows and caves still visible. On São Miguel, the Furnas Valley is especially interesting with its fumaroles and hot-water springs .
Visit Belle-Île-en-Mer, the icon of the Ponant Islands - France
From Pointe des Poulains to Kérel Beach, via Sarah Bernhardt Fort and Port-Donnant Beach, Belle-Île-en-Mer is certainly one of the most iconic Ponant Islands. Hikes along the wild coastline , picturesque hamlets and unspoilt coves have all contributed to its reputation. Unique must-sees on the island include the "Eden du Voyageur" garden with plants from all over the world, the Aiguilles de Port-Coton needles and Goulphar Lighthouse.
Explore Ouessant: the westernmost area of mainland France
We think of it being battered by the wind, its black and white striped lighthouse standing strong against the storm. Ouessant , the westernmost region in mainland France, certainly has a wild look with rocks shaped by the elements. However, it has been inhabited by man since Prehistoric times. Today, its "capital" Lampaul reflects the gentle way of life enjoyed by the population of under 900. The stone houses with coloured shutters, church and little fishing port attract visitors from all over the world each year.

Sail through the Corinth Canal
A passage between the Ionian Sea and the Aegean Sea, the Corinth Canal is an essential part of any Greek cruise . Separating the Peloponnese from the continent, it offers a unique sailing experience. Measuring just 24.60 metres in width, sailors navigating this 6-kilometre canal must be extremely vigilant.
Take a stroll on Hydra
To the south of the Peloponnese, the island of Hydra is best explored by boat, on foot or with a donkey. Cars are banned from the island, which was known for its powerful fleet until the 1820s. Today, pleasure boats have replaced the commercial vessels, letting passengers admire the island's rocky, maquis-covered Mediterranean coastline. The charming town of Hydra is easy to visit on foot, from the white houses covered with bougainvillea and jasmine to the churches and historic mansions built by powerful shipowners. A 15-minute walk away, travellers can also drop into the authentic Greek fishing village of Kamini .
Appreciate a more relaxed way of life in Paros
The pearl of the Cyclades, Paros is a Greek postcard come to life. Its small fishing ports are filled with blue and white boats to match the whitewashed houses with navy shutters, while the beaches are hidden in coves or laid out along the coast in long stretches of golden sand. Dos. In Greece, people tend to use informal language all the time and with everyone, including the elderly. You should not expect to be greeted in formal terms.
Don'ts. Mountza is a very insulting gesture in Greece, made by extending your hand with your palm facing out and your fingers spread. It signifies that you are cursing someone and their entire family for 5 generations, and is not to be taken lightly!

Typical Greek dishes include gyros, tzatziki , a variety of salads, feta and, of course, moussaka . But did you know that this aubergine and ground meat gratin is just one of a group of dishes known as mayirefta ? This term refers to a range of traditional recipes that are cooked in the oven or simmered in a pot for several hours. In addition to moussaka, you may encounter yemista (vegetables stuffed with rice and many condiments), lemonato (meat simmered with lemon and oregano) and stifado (a meat stew with tomatoes and onions).
Myths and legends
The Champs-Elysées is not just a street in Paris! Their namesake, the Elysian Fields, is an ancient concept from Greek and Roman mythology, representing an area of the afterlife reserved for heroes and good people.
In the spotlight
In May 2018, Healthy Seas lifted two tonnes of abandoned non-biodegradable plastic fishing nets from the seabed off the coast of Stratoni, Greece. This NGO travels the North Sea, the Mediterranean and the Adriatic to remove these "ghost nets" from the water. They have successfully protected underwater biodiversity by collecting 453 tonnes of this material since 2013, which Healthy Seas plans to turn into fabric that can be used to create sportswear, swimsuits and rugs.
Book. The Island , Victoria Hislop (2013). This novel plunges the reader into a tangled web of taboos and family secrets. It follows a young English woman, Alexis, who decides to spend a summer in Plaka, Crete, where her mother was born and lived until she was 18 years old. This homecoming soon unravels into a mystery as she begins to ask some big questions: Why did her mother run away from her past? What secrets lie on the island of Spinalonga, which was a leper colony for the first half of the 20th century?
Music. Nisiotika (which means island in Greek) is the traditional music of the Greek Islands. In the Cyclades, this style is closely tied to the Cretan tradition, combining poetic couplets with lyra or violin melodies for a more western sound. On the other islands, local dances, with Turkish or Italian influences, accompany mandolin or guitar music. Some of this genre's most famous performers include Mariza Koch and Mythos.
Film. Based on Nikos Kazantzakis' 1946 novel Life and Times of Alexis Zorbas , Zorba the Greek (1964) is a cult film that has shaped the public perception of Greece. Filmed entirely in Crete, it won three Oscars in 1965. It follows Basil, an uptight young British writer, who returns to the island of his ancestors to settle his inheritance, and Zorba, the exuberant Greek who becomes his guide. Despite their differences, the two are able to form a close bond.
