Just 40 minutes outside of Dublin, the stud farm is the home of equine royalty.

Beautifully set on 850 acres of green rolling hills, the Irish National Stud & Gardens real gift is that it offers an opportunity to become truly immersed within the heart of nature. Children have the opportunity to interact on a tour of a working stud farm and should they complete the Wonder of Horses tour they get the chance to enjoy a fun, activity session in our classroom where they can touch and try on our range of equestrian equipment.

You will also get the opportunity to meet with the Living Legends team which are made up of famous retired racehorses, learn what they eat, how far and fast they travel and how quickly they can learn. After the guided tour explore our two amazing gardens with caves, monastic cell, stepping stones and a host of wildlife.

Visit our fairy trail and burn off some energy in our playground. Teachers can enjoy our beautiful surroundings knowing the children are in safe hands and being happily entertained. As an accredited SFI Discover Centre our school tours cover curriculum-based themes including Animals and Living Things, Maths, Materials, Environmental Awareness and Care.

€6 per child

We cater for school tours (pre-school, primary). We can provide a guided tour or if you wish the teachers can bring the children around at their own pace.

If you do choose a guided tour, you can still go around the farm again after the tour – no restrictions on how many times you visit the animals and playground.

The children get to experience farm life as many children from towns would not get the opportunity to do so.  The children get to hold whatever baby animals we have and also get a bucket of feed to go around the whole farm and feed the rest of the animals.

We have playgrounds throughout the farm (Climbing wall (small children), slides, Zip-line, treehouse, windmill slide, see-saw, obstacle course, 5 a side soccer pitch, hay barn where they can jump from bail to bail, go karts, bikes etc.).   We also provide pony rides for every child during the tour FOC .  We have 2 large indoor benches where the children can eat their lunch.

Contact Siobhan on 087 6957306 to book your school tour.  We have plenty of parking for buses

Caragh Open Farm is a family run Open Farm in Caragh, Naas, Co Kildare. The farm is spread over approx. 5 acres. It was once a working farm but we decided to diversify into the Open Farm as we noticed a gap in the market.  Since opening our doors in June 2011 we have grown from strength to strength increasing our animal numbers to nearly 30 different types.  In July 2021 we opened our Café which can seat up to 30 people.

As well as the pet farm we offer a lovely scenic walk for the whole family to enjoy.  Family outings are what make childhood memories so don’t forget the camera!  The most frequent compliment we receive is that we are warm, friendly and helpful and that the farm is not over commercialised.  We are mindful of costs especially for bigger families, so we encourage picnics.

PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ALLOW DOGS ON OUR FARM AS WE HAVE MANY SMALL ANIMALS RUNNING AROUND THE FARM FREELY.

Opening times

We are open from the end of March to October.  (March, April, May, June, September, October Weekends and Bank Holidays only 11am to 5pm), July and August 7 days per week.  11am to 5pm

We opened our café in July 2022. It is named with the initials of our 4 children.  Our Café offers customers a variety of delicious food in a relaxing environment.  Our café seats up to 30 people indoors with extra seating for alfresco dining.

We offer delicious barista coffee, soup, paninis, toasted sandwiches, sausage rolls, chips, chicken nuggets, sausages.  We also have a wide range of sweet treats.  Please be aware that our menu changes with the seasons.

We are easy to find situated close to Naas and Newbridge in Co. Kildare – about a 40 minute drive from Dublin, 30 mins from Portlaoise.  We have a large carpark that can accommodate both cars and buses.  Our farm is buggy and wheelchair friendly with paths that are easy to navigate. Our carpark is gravel so please be aware of this.

What an amazing place from start to finished the mood was set from the second we rolled up to the gate got a real genuine welcome the place it's self is so clean and every one YES EVERY ONE seems so nice lots of things to do and the kids(2,6 and 9) LOVED the play areas actually hand on heart my kids loved every thing in the place, don't mean to sound like a hippy but honest was just a grate vibe In the place and we all felt it this was 10/10 for us can't wait to go again.

What a fantastic show Lullymore put on every year. Really enjoyed it as did my 11 and 14 year old. Cafe is lovely and the outside seating area comes with 2 inquisitive geese! The best thing about Lullymore more is the staff.

Great place, hidden gem, worth the travel, value for money, well kept.

Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park in Ireland is simply a treasure chest of Irish history and culture. Set amidst a tranquil peatland, the park beautifully combines education and entertainment. The exhibits are meticulously curated to throw light on Ireland's rich heritage. Kid-friendly activities like the Fairy Bower and the small pet farm engage younger visitors, while the enchanting nature walks and café serve as perfect relaxation stations for all age groups. The friendly staff are always cheerful and ready to assist. Lullymore is indeed Ireland's own green jewel, offering an enriching and immersive experience.

This is a superb location with a wide range of fun and informative aspects - learn about bogs and peat, ancient Irish heritage, Irish Christian heritage, the 1798 Rebellion, the Famine and much, much more.

We were greeted by Ray for our short visit to this attraction. The site tells an important part of Irish history and includes practical demonstrations of peat cutting and the history of the industry.

Came here with my 5 year old for her friends birthday party. Couldn't fault the service, we told them the child's name upon entry and that was that. The staff were so friendly and good with the kids.

A huge thank you to the staff at Lullymore, and a special thank to Myra,Kevin and Marie. We had our school tour with you yesterday and you all looked after us so well. The children and a fantastic day.

Young adults from Kildare and Wicklow visit Trinity as part of Critical ChangeLab

On Thursday, March 28, the InSync Junior Board and Area Coordinators visited Trinity as part of the Critical ChangeLab project to discuss youth-led approaches to democracy.

 height=

Critical ChangeLab is an EU-funded project which aims to develop innovative, transdisciplinary, youth-led approaches to democracy and global citizenship education.

Trinity is part of a consortium using participatory action research (PAR) with civil society organisations in ten EU countries to create a new model of democratic pedagogy (Critical ChangeLabs). Critical ChangeLabs involve collaboration with local stakeholders to address challenges relevant to young people.

In February, researchers from Trinity’s School of Education and the Trinity Long Room Hub co-designed a series of workshops with InSync , an organisation providing youth and family services in Kildare and West Wicklow. The theme of ‘community and identity’ was chosen in consultation with the InSync Junior Board and their Area Coordinator youth workers. This topic is particularly pertinent in the context of the growing influence of the far right in Ireland, an issue of concern for the young people who participated in the project.

InSync young adults visit Leinster House as part of Critical ChangeLab Project

The Junior Board are young people aged 16 – 24 who contribute youth perspectives to decision-making for the entire InSync service. Participants worked with Trinity researchers to explore historical examples of exclusion and social change and articulate their visions for inclusive futures and better youth agency within their local communities. The Junior Board created a series of handmade zines at the end of the workshops to capture their reflections and messages in relation to these themes.

Zines created as part of the Critical ChangeLab project

Speaking of the collaboration with Trinity, an area coordinator with the Junior Board said:

“ The Junior Board and the Critical Change Lab started a process to look at democracy and through that process what we discovered, and affirmed, was that some of the most marginalised young people in our communities are living in worlds where they see themselves as having no power to change things and in lots of ways with little voice.”

At the end of March, the Junior Board and Area Coordinators came to Trinity for the final research focus group, a campus tour, a visit to Leinster House, and to share their zines with colleagues from the School of Education and Trinity Long Room Hub.

Commenting on their participation in the workshops, one member of the Junior Board said they felt their “opinion as a young person is valued” and that through the participatory research “you’re provided a way to give your opinion, your thoughts, and your observations on ongoing issues that you have found in your area.”

Workshop at the Trinity Long Room Hub with InSync participants

Another participant highlighted the importance of being part of the Critical ChangeLabs, and seeing how historical societal injustices were changed in the past: "even if it did take 60-70 years, change can be made ... it gave that empowerment that it might take time, but we can make changes to the society we're in and solve the issues we're facing... "

Following the latest workshops, Dr Mairéad Hurley, Assistant Professor in Science Education at Trinity, reflected on the experience, and outlined the next steps of the project:

"It has been a joy to work with InSync as co-researchers, and the young people have constructed powerful messages full of creativity, humour, and vulnerability. We look forward to continuing this collaboration and supporting this incredible group in using the Critical ChangeLab model to further investigate inequality and injustice, envision alternate futures, and collaboratively take action on the issues that matter to them.

With our partners across Europe, the Trinity team is now reflecting on the first iteration of the Critical ChangeLab and planning for the next series of workshops. We're also preparing to work with a new group of young people this summer as part of our ongoing collaboration with the Digital Hub and the Beta Festival of Art & Technology.

If any schools, artists, or non-formal learning institutions are interested in getting involved, please email us at [email protected] —we'd love to talk!"

The Critical ChangeLab project draws upon the expertise of Trinity’s multidisciplinary Science & Society research group , based in the School of Education

The Critical ChangeLab project also builds upon the Trinity Long Room Hub’s work in this area in recent years, including The Democracy Forum and CEPRAH (Community Engagement Praxis for Research in the Arts and Humanities).
