Most Instagrammable Nashville Murals

15 Most Instagrammable Nashville Murals

If you are looking to spend a day exploring the stunning Nashville Murals, I highly suggest taking time to explore 12 South and The Gulch . These neighborhoods are teeming with some of the best artwork in the city as well as great stops along the way for food, drinks and shopping!

This post will give you two complete self-guided walking tours , one for each neighborhood – and it’s totally doable to do both in one day! However, if you are a guided-tour girly, I also have a list of the best tours you can book to see some of the best murals with minimal effort!

Jump Ahead To

12 South Self-Guided Mural Tour

12 South is a charming, upscale neighborhood just a short drive from Downtown Nashville. Here you’ll find delicious eats and drinks (including my FAVORITE taco place as featured in my blog post about the best tacos in Nashville !) as well plenty of interesting shops. You could easily spend half a day here exploring everything this street has to offer. Not only is 12 South a Nash neighborhood offering great food and shopping, it is one of the most dense areas for iconic Nashville Murals!

In less than a 20 minute walk, you will come across SIX unique murals, each with their own expression and artistry.

Be sure to visit these 12 South murals in this order for the easiest walk!

I Love Donuts Mural

Address: 1110 Caruthers Ave, Nashville, TN 3720 Artist: Unknown

Start your afternoon in 12 South at the corner of Caruthers and 12th Avenue – aka Five Daughter’s Bakery . This donut shop is unlike any other – their famous 100 layer donuts are absolutely to die for and you’ll stumble across your first mural of the day. Grab a sweet treat, a coffee, and some photos in front of this adorable mural to start your day off right!

Murals of Nashville

Bussin Around Nashville Mural

Address: 2405 12th Ave, Nashville, TN 37204 (on the side of FWD Clothing CO) Artist: Rachyl LaGrone

After your morning donut and coffee, continue walking down 12th Avenue (going South) until you happen upon this groovy mural by Rachyl LaGrone. Lagrone’s art can be found on the side of the trendy FWD Clothing Company as well as many other locations in Nashville. Snag a photo and then stop in to shop for some surf-inspired garments.

Murals in Nashville Tennessee

Nash Flower Wings Mural

Address: Bullets and Pearls, 2507 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 Artist: Unknown

Keep walking (yes, we’re still on the same street!) and you’ll come upon my favorite mural in all of Nashville. Yes, wings are a big thing in Music City! Take some time to pose in front of this adorable flower mural – the shots will be sure to make a splash on your socials.

This spot is conveniently located next to Bullets and Pearls , an adorable boutique shop with lots of cute (and affordable) jewelry, bags, and Nashville-inspired accessories.

Nashville TN Murals

I Believe in Nashville Mural

Address: 2702 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 Artist: Adrien Saporiti

About half-way down the busiest part of 12 South, you’ll come across one of the most famous murals in all of Nashville. Adrien Saporiti’s I Believe in Nashville Mural is a photo-op everyone should take the time to seek out. There may be a line when you go, but it’s worth it for the memories!

This was Jonnie’s favorite 🙂

I Believe in Nashville Mural

Garden Floral

Address: 2900 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 Artist: Unknown

As you continue your journey down the street, you’ll come across a beautiful floral mural, painting by a mystery artist. Located on the side of United Apparel Liquidators (a discount designer clothing store) this mural stop is a win-win!

Make Music Not War

Address: 2902 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 (on the side of the Epice restaurant building) Artist: Relax Max Apparel

Last stop on your self-guided tour of the 12 South Murals will land you at Epice Lebanese Restaurant. Besides some delicious food, this restaurant has Relax Max Apparel’s Make Music Not War Mural on it’s side, a true homage to everything Music City stands for.

The Gulch Self-Guided Mural Tour

Another large hub for Nashville murals is the Gulch – a large area of Nashville dotted with plenty of restaurants and stores. It’s also home to one of the most famous mural in Nashville, Kelsey Montague’s WhatLiftsYou mural. Here is my ultimate guide for a walkable self-guided tour of the Gulch Murals.

*This self-guided tour is doable but definitely a longer walk than the 12 South itinerary. You may wish to grab an Uber to get to some of the further points. That being said, Jonnie and I did this by foot and so I think you could too! 🙂

Green Leaves of the Gulch

Address: 200 12th Avenue South but mural faces mostly 11th Ave South (right across from Milk and Honey) Artist: Ian Ross

You’ll want to start your self-guided Gulch mural tour near the address 200 12th Avenue. This is also the home of Milk and Honey , one of the most popular places for brunch in Nashville. Jonnie and I went here and let me tell you, it is GOOD. Be sure to order their cinnamon roll – to DIE for. Milk and Honey doesn’t take reservations so put your name in and then cross the street and have a photo shoot at this vast mural!

Created by artist Ian Ross, the Green Leaves of the Gulch is an all encompassing mural that covers a parking lot on 12th and 11th Avenue South. This mural reminded me of Jack and Beanstalk! Jonnie and I had so much fun taking photos here while we waited for our brunch reservation.

Murals in Nashville TN

Nashville WhatLiftsYou Wings Mural

Address: 302 11th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203 Artist: Kelsey Montague

Luckily, the mural everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) is looking for is just steps further down the street from Milk and Honey. Kelsey Montague’s WhatLiftsYou Wings mural is breathtaking and extremely popular. There will be a line but it’s worth it for this iconic Instagrammable Nashville photo-op.

Nashville Whatliftsyou Wings Mural

Jason Woodside Mural

Address: 299 11th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203 Artist: Jason Woodside

Right across the street, you’ll find this colorful and imaginative mural by Jason Woodside. Known for his optical illusions, Woodsides’ mural is a feast for the eyes as you walk The Gulch. You can find his artwork in numerous cities across the country (and the world!). Be sure to stop and marvel at this masterpiece that the Gulch is so lucky to have!

Acoustic Skyline

Address: 911 Division Street, Nashville, TN 37203 Artist: Allison Johnson

Next on your itinerary, you’ll want to continue walking down 12th Avenue South until you hit Division Street and then turn left. You’ll pass STK on your right – an amazing steakhouse if you’re looking for an upscale meal – and then you’ll find Allison Johnson’s Acoustic Skyline Mural. A true depiction of Music City, this mural is a great spot for music lovers to take a pic!

Carter Vintage Guitars

Address: 625 8th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203 Artist: Unknown

Now, you’ll need to put on your walking shoes (or take an Uber!) and get yourself to Carter Vintage Guitars. Jonnie and I made this walk; it really wasn’t bad and totally worth it to see this awesome mural and check out some seriously cool vintage guitars inside.

Nashville Mural Tour Self Guided

Candy Hearts Mural

Address: 601 8th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203 Artist: Bryson Leach

Last on your self-guided tour of the Gulch Murals is the absolutely charming Candy Hearts by Bryson Leach. Perfect for Bachelorette trips, be sure to walk down the street from Carter’s and snag some photos in front of this whimsical and oh-so feminine mural!

Honorable Mural Mentions

There are SO many amazing murals in Nashville! Here are three murals that are outside of 12 South and The Gulch but worth a special trip.

Honkey Tonk Angels Mural

Neighborhood: Downtown Address: Lucky Bastard Saloon, 408 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203 Artist: Unknown

Broadway, although teeming with bars, country singers, and disco cowgirls, is not a hub for for murals. However, I was able to find one at Lucky Bastard Saloon! Be sure to stop here for some incredible country music, a beer, and an awesome photo shoot.

Nashville Wings Mural

What Lifts You Air Balloon Mural

Neighborhood: East Nashville Address: 1034 West Eastland Ave. Nashville, TN 37206 Artist: Kelsey Montague

Kelsey Montague, the artist of the iconic WhatLiftsYou Wings Mural has another mural in East Nashville. If you find yourself in this eclectic neighborhood, be sure to stop by and hop in the basket for a super fun shot!

Art of Harmony

Neighborhood: Germantown Address: 1120 4th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37208 (on the side of Juice Bar Germantown) Artist: Ty Christian

Germantown is a fantastic neighborhood in Nashville, lined with coffee shops and boutiques in old Victorian buildings. It is also home to Ty Christian’s Art of Harmony, a must-see piece.

Where Do the Stars live in Nashville?

Where does tim mcgraw live.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill live in a custom-built mansion in Nashville. It’s tucked far off the street and looks castle-like!

Check out Tim McGraw & Faith Hill House Photos here!

They are also selling their second property located just south of Nashville. The estate includes a log cabin, a southern antebellum home, as well as four other houses and a 12-stall stable on the property. Most recently they had it on the market for $18.5 million.

Where does Carrie Underwood live?

There’s something about Franklin that keeps pulling Ms. Underwood back. America’s sweetheart purchased a relatively modest 3,099 square foot home with 3 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, and a half-bath in Franklin, Tennessee for $384,000 a few years back. She eventually sold that one and built a custom estate with her hubby Mike Fisher situated on 400 acres of land in the area.

As this is being built they are living in a neighboring barn/cottage-style home on the property, which you can see here:  Carrie Underwood House Photos !

Where does Luke Bryan live?

Luke Bryan has also emerged as a top tourist site for visitors to see. He currently owns a farm sitting on 150 acres. Luke reportedly designed and constructed the home himself and even included a 1,800-square-foot guest home in the estate, allowing his family to move in or come and go as they please. The guesthouse is said to include three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a front porch, and a media room. The estate even has its catfish pond, inspired by his own experiences living in the country catching catfish as a young man.

Check out Luke Bryan House Photos here!

Where does Taylor Swift live?

Taylor has a lot of awards under her belt, including being honored at the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame back in 2009. She received the award alongside Toby Keith; Taylor Swift, however, is the only of the two to still reside in Nashville. In 2009, Taylor Swift invested $2 million in a penthouse apartment in Midtown, Nashville, near Downtown Nashville. Located in the expensive Adelicia complex, the stylish apartment was featured by Katie Couric in 2012. Taylor gave the hostess a tour of the home and said that her design was inspired by Alice in Wonderland, giving off a cozy feel while also keeping it quirky and unique. The penthouse has 3 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, as well as a balcony on both sides. This is the place where Taylor escapes from the high life of LA to take it easy down south.

Check out Taylor Swift Nashville House – The Penthouse  here!

Taylor also owns a home in the suburbs of Nashville. It’s unclear who lives there, perhaps she does at times, but based on our research, she stays at her penthouse most of the time when in Music City.

Where does Kid Rock live?

Kid Rock is the most unusual out-of-the-country music star. Despite being considered a millionaire, he sold his Malibu mansion for $9.5 million and swapped it for a doublewide trailer in June of 2017. Kid Rock chose simplicity over luxury and bought the trailer because he fell in love with the view. But don’t get it twisted, he has a rather large real estate portfolio with a few mansions mixed in.

Kid Rocks Nashville Home

There are many other big names that we can list that live in the music city; Martina McBride, Jack White, Ronnie Milsap, Dierks Bentley, Reese Witherspoon, Kix Brooks Ronnie Dunn, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood, Lady Antebellum, and more all have homes in the state capitol.

Nashville Celebrity Homes Tour

One of the best-known activities you can do to learn more about the country music stars is to take a stars tour using Tommy’s Tours. Guided by Charmin’ Tommy Garmon, who is a considerably funny tour guide, Tommy Tours is a three-hour Nashville tour of Downtown Nashville, letting visitors see the celebrity hot spots and the culture of country music.

Another well-known stars tour is the Gray Line Tennessee. This larger company has Nashville tour guides that know the ins and outs of what a Nashville tour should be for its visitors. Gray Lines Tennessee has been running for over 40 years and offers some of the best prices out there for all exclusive access into the neighborhood.

But, maybe we’re biased, but we HIGHLY RECOMMEND going the self-tour route and driving yourself. Why? Many of the homes are a bit out of town, so instead of being stuck on a bus, drive yourself using our map (with easy-to-navigate links!) and go to only the homes you care about!

So in addition to some great shows coming to Ascend in downtown Nashville and FirstBank in Franklin, we've got a rundown of all the shows (indoor and out) you need to see in May.

May 5: Music of Pink Floyd with the Nashville Symphony

There's something about a concert under the stars, and what better a way to break in "shed" season than with the music of Pink Floyd with the Nashville Symphony? This show will feature the band's iconic "Dark Side of the Moon" in its entirety, followed by the their greatest hits. Both will also feature a laser light show to create a musical and visual spectacle.

More info and tickets: concerts.livenation.com .

May 8: Neil Young and Crazy Horse

The Neil Young and Crazy Horse Love Earth Tour heads to Franklin's FirstBank Amphitheater for a night of Young classics. The band has played together for more than 50 years and in 2023 recorded some familiar classics on their latest album, "Fu##in’ Up." Young was quoted as saying: "In the spirit it’s offered … made this for the Horse lovers. I can’t stop it. The horse is runnin’. What a ride we have. I don’t want to mess with the vibe. I am so happy to have this to share.”

Tickets: firstbankamphitheater.com.

May 10 and 11: Amy Grant

Songstress Amy Grant brings her current tour to the Ryman Auditorium in May, marking the first time in 25 years that she has headlined a Nashville show outside of her annual Christmas residency. The show has been billed as a walk down memory lane through her remarkable career. She will also play some new music, the first from Grant in more than a decade.

More information and tickets: ryman.com .

May 11: Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and record producer, comes back to the stage after only a few live performances in 2023 to bring his Most Wanted Tour to Nashville. The show has been billed as bringing Bunny fans an "unparalleled spectacle" and "a more intimate experience than previous tours."

Tickets: bridgestonearena.com.

May 12: Devo

Wonder if the '80s new wave band members still wear upside-down red flower pots on their heads? One way to find out. Come see for yourself when they bring hits such as "Whip It" as part of their 50 Years of De-Evolution Tour to the Ryman.

More info and tickets: ryman.com .

May 16: Mammoth WVH

The WVH in Mammoth WVH stands for Wolfgang Van Halen, and while, yes, his dad was the legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen, "Wolf" as he is known, didn't grow up playing guitar, but rather the drums. That led to him learning basically every other rock instrument, all of which he played on his self-titled, 2021 debut album. Now, Wolf finds his voice as a lead singer and songwriter.

Tickets: brooklynbowl.com .

He has collaborated with the likes of Post Malone, Julia Michaels and Wesley Schultz of the Lumineers, so keep your eyes open for a possible special guest.

Tickets: bridgestonearena.com .

If you haven't seen Lainey Wilson lately, you've been living under a rock. Duane Eddy, rock guitarist known for ‘Rebel Rouser,’ ‘Peter Gunn’ and ‘twang,’ dies at 86

Duane Eddy, a pioneering guitar hero whose reverberating electric sound on instrumentals such as “Rebel Rouser” and “Peter Gunn” helped put the twang in early rock ’n’ roll and influenced George Harrison, Bruce Springsteen and countless other musicians, has died. He was 86.

Eddy died of cancer Tuesday at the Williamson Health hospital in Franklin, Tenn., according to his wife, Deed Abbate.

With his raucous rhythms, and backing hollers and hand claps, Eddy sold more than 100 million records and mastered a distinctive sound based on the premise that a guitar’s bass strings sounded better on tape than the high ones.

POP MUSIC REVIEW : DUANE EDDY ROCKS LIFE INTO ART OF NOISE

What a difference a human makes.

July 31, 1986

“I had a distinctive sound that people could recognize and I stuck pretty much with that. I’m not one of the best technical players by any means; I just sell the best,” he told the Associated Press in a 1986 interview. “A lot of guys are more skillful than I am with the guitar. A lot of it is over my head. But some of it is not what I want to hear out of the guitar.”

“Twang” defined Eddy’s sound from his first album, “Have Twangy Guitar Will Travel,” to his 1993 box set, “Twang Thang: The Duane Eddy Anthology.”

“It’s a silly name for a nonsilly thing,” Eddy told the AP in 1993. “But it has haunted me for 35 years now, so it’s almost like sentimental value — if nothing else.”

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Ready for the Hall?

Duane Eddy was recently asked in a television interview about his being nominated again for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Oct. 27, 1991

Eddy and producer Lee Hazlewood helped create the “Twang” sound in the 1950s, a sound Hazlewood later adapted for his production of Nancy Sinatra’s 1960s smash “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.”

Eddy had a commercial peak from 1958 to 1963. He said in 1993 that he took his 1970 hit “Freight Train” as a clue to slow down.

“It was an easy-listening hit,” he recalled. “Six or seven years before, I was on the cutting edge.”

Eddy had more than 50 albums, some of them reissues. He did not work much from the 1980s on, “living off my royalties,” he said in 1986.

About “Rebel Rouser,” he told the AP: “It was a good title and it was the rockest rock ’n’ roll sound. It was different for the time.”

Eddy scored theme music for movies including “Because They’re Young,” “Pepe” and “Gidget Goes Hawaiian.” But he said he turned down doing the James Bond theme song because there wasn’t enough guitar music in it.

Two Retrospectives Salute Original Guitar Heroes

Guitarists Duane Eddy and Link Wray earned places in rock history in the late ‘50s with instrumental hits that were as exciting to a generation of rock fans as anything by singers Buddy Holly or Little Richard.

July 9, 1993

In the 1970s, he worked behind the scenes in music production work, mainly in Los Angeles.

Eddy was born in Corning, N.Y., and grew up in Phoenix, where he began playing guitar at 5. He spent his teens in Arizona dreaming of singing on the Grand Ole Opry and eventually signed with Jamie Records of Philadelphia in 1958. “Rebel Rouser” soon followed.

Eddy later toured with Dick Clark’s “Caravan of Stars” and appeared in “Because They’re Young” and “Thunder of Drums,” among other movies.

He moved to Nashville in 1985 after years of semiretirement in Lake Tahoe.

Eddy was not a vocalist, saying in 1986, “One of my biggest contributions to the music business is not singing.”

Paul McCartney and George Harrison were both fans of Eddy, and he recorded with them after their Beatles days. He played on McCartney’s “Rockestra Theme” and Harrison played on Eddy’s self-titled comeback album, both in 1987.
