So here are the domestic AND international student travel destinations I recommend for a trip while studying. These are all cheap holiday destinations for students and also offer more than that!

Spain is one of the fantastic all-around student holiday destinations that is cheap, beautiful, and full of culture and amazing landscapes (and parties).

Barcelona is a massive student city which is also one of my favorite cities in the world. Barcelona mixes incredible culture and history with beach life, outdoor activities , cheap bars, clubs, and a laid-back lifestyle. It’s also a great place to teach English if you want a side hustle. Barcelona is also an awesome and popular place to study abroad.

But we also have Madrid, which is cheaper with great nightlife and food. Ibiza and Majorca are favorite islands destinations in the Mediterranean, with great beaches and parties. Andalucia is known to be the cheapest area of Spain with a deep Spanich culture – prepare for tapas, wine, and late nights especially in the capital Seville. Spain is an all-around great student travel destination!

Thailand is one of the best student travel destinations for many reasons, and a fantastic jumping-off point for affordable and simple travel in Asia. Thailand is one of the most-visited Southeast Asian countries where English is widely spoken, and transportation is well-worn and easy to figure out – all of which are great for young students.

Thailand is one of the cheapest places to travel as a student and is full of backpackers traveling on a shoestring, making the most of their budget, exploring, and partying. It has a vibrant culture, delicious food, and some of the most incredible and diverse landscapes around.

From the mountains of Chiang Pai to the backpacker vibes of Pai, to the incredible bustle of Bangkok, to the stunningly scenic southern islands… Thailand is a must!

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is a fantastic domestic student travel destination because you can experience a rich culture without even leaving the country! There’s TONS to do in New Orleans, from the many museums to the French Quarter to drinking a bit too much on Bourbon Street.

There are a few universities here, so the vibe is young and outgoing. Mardi Gras and Halloween are epic times to be in NOLA, although it’s tons of fun year-round. There are also some affordable hostels that won’t break the bank as much as hotels here will.

Australia might be far away from it all, but it offers a whole range of awesome perks for student travelers. Australia is by far the best place to have a working holiday or even solo travel in Australia.

If you get a working holiday visa (available to those under 30-35, depending on country of origin), you can live and work in Australia and make some of the best wages in the world! It’s also a great place to study abroad, where the culture is similar yet distinctly different.

The country is massive and diverse in landscape. Many young people like to rent or buy a car to road trip around the country and visit hotspots like Sydney , Melbourne , the Great Ocean Road , Adelaide, Uluru + Northern Territory (Outback), Cairns, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Fraser Island , Byron Bay, and more.

Ireland is a great student travel destination or first-time travel destination for those who want a familiar language but plenty of culture and scenery. Ireland is a small and easily traveled country full of incredible landscapes, such as the cliffs of Moher.

One thing that is constant in India, however, is just how affordable it is. India is one of the best student travel destinations because the cost of living is extremely cheap compared to the US and it has one of the most historic and beautiful cultures in the whole world.

Panama City Beach, Florida

I couldn’t leave Panama City Beach off of this list, as it’s known as the spring break capital of the world ! With miles of beautiful beaches and lots of EPIC parties just for students, this is a perfect student travel destination where you can experience tropical beaches without leaving the country.

Budapest, Hungary

For one of the cheapest student travel destinations in Europe, Budapest is a clear standout. Hungary is an incredible country with a deep history and culture, and Budapest puts it all on show. With the ‘Buda’ and ‘Pest’ sides of the river, students can learn all about European history and marvel at palaces, cathedrals, museums and viewpoints while exploring.

Budapest also has one of the best and cheapest party scenes in Europe, with some famous party hostels for a few euros a night to their iconic ruin bars. Sziget Festival is also one of the best in the world. This is a great place for students to travel, have a great time, and definitely not break the bank.

For those itching for a South American adventure, Peru is a great option for culture, budget-friendliness, and landscapes. Peru is also a diverse country stretching from the jungles of the Amazon to the deserts of Lima to the archaeological wonder and mountains of Cuzco (and Machu Picchu).

There are so many different landscapes to experience here, and they’re well-connected by busses. Hostels and meals are extremely cheap in Peru, making it easy to budget less than $20-$30 a day here.

The Adventure Takes Us to Belgium!!!

This past week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), the students got the opportunity to travel to Brussels to experience the sights and sounds of the city.  Students were also fortunate visit the European Parliament and the European Commission.  On Thursday, the students got the opportunity to venture around Brussels enjoying Belgian fries, Belgian waffles, and authentic Belgian chocolate. 

The European Parliament

On Friday, the students got to visit the chambers of the European Parliament.  While touring the facility, students learned about how the representatives sit in the chambers when the Parliament meets.  Students found out that representatives sit according to their political party allegiance.  Students also got the opportunity to learn more about the recent election that occurred in the European Union for the Secretary-General.

The European Commission

After leaving the headquarters of the European Parliament, students got the opportunity to go to the headquarters of the European Commission.  One may ask, "What is the difference between the European Parliament and the European Commission?"  It was explained to the students that the European Commission is the executive branch of the European Union, while the European Parliament is the legislative body of the European Union.  Students really enjoyed getting to sit in the chambers of the European Commission.

The Palamentarium

On Saturday morning, students got the opportunity to participate in an actual simulation of how laws and policies are negotiated.  The students were placed into five political parties and had to negotiate policy for water sustainability and placing microchips in individuals for identification purposes.  The students really enjoyed taking part in the activity.

Overall, Brussels was an experience that the students will never forget!!!

Travel Hacks for College Students: See More, Spend Less

I adore taking trips. I've often said that my travels serve as my "anti-drug." That's the actual state of affairs. There is nothing more enjoyable than traveling to a new location and getting to know a new city. I made a commitment to travel whenever I could when I entered college after high school.

Looking back at my college years, I successfully did that. As an undergrad, I visited several cities, such as  Miami , NYC, Las Vegas, and Nashville. People would ask me, "Aren't college students supposed to be broke?" In today's post, I discuss different ways to travel as a college student. It's going to be easier than you thought. Participating in illegal activities was not one of them! Cheap student travel can happen.

Stay With Friends or Family

The 1st way to travel as a college student was to stay with family or friends. On some of the trips that I went on, I stayed with friends. I was there if they had an extra couch or decent floor space. I easily saved a couple of hundred dollars by doing that. It took the stress out of trying to find a hotel or other lodging place.

Use Some of Your Student Refund

We're up to number three on the list of how to travel as a college student. I will be the first to say I never purchased a car or expensive clothes with my student refund. However, I did use some of my refund for a few trips. There may be better decisions than this, especially if your refund is student loan money. You will eventually have to pay back. Just keeping it real, some of my refund was from  student loans . I don't regret using it to travel at all. It allowed me to see other cities besides Atlanta and  Savannah . My comfort zone expanded because of that. I'm sure the same will happen to you. Just spend your refund sparingly.

Work a PT Job

I worked a part-time job during the majority of my college days. At one of my jobs, I was a busser at a restaurant. I made GREAT money there. After I had paid a couple of bills I had each month, I saved a decent amount for travel. A couple of road trips and fraternity conferences were paid for with that money. The crazy thing was that I didn't get a car until the summer before my senior year. I found several ways to get to that job before then.

Travel as a Group

The most common way I saved money was to travel with a group. There were numerous road trips where 4-5 of us would pile into someone's car and split the gas and hotel charges. If we knew someone that lived in the city that we were visiting, we would save even more money by just having to pay for gas. Numerous road trips cost less than $60 per person because of this strategy.

If you're going to do group travel, make sure that you and the people you're traveling with are on one accord. Out of all the group trips I've been on, I only had one that started badly. To keep it short, I will say that I had to book a room at another hotel to keep people from potentially fighting. Most of the group came with me, while three stayed at the original hotel. Once we separated from them, the trip turned out great.

Study Abroad Program

 Studying abroad is an excellent way for college students to gain new experiences, meet new people, and travel the world. By participating in a study abroad program, you can earn a global perspective on your studies in college, experience new cultures and lifestyles, and develop valuable skills that will help you in your career.

The way it works is that you apply for a study abroad program through your college or university. The application may be required to include letters of recommendation from faculty members, an essay describing why you want to participate in the program, and a statement of financial resources. Once accepted into the program, you will typically work with a study abroad advisor who will help you with your travel details, such as the logistics of flights and accommodations.

Backpacking your way through another country is a great way to see the sights and experience new cultures firsthand. One of the benefits is that you will have more freedom to explore on your own and decide where to go and what to do, depending on your interests and preferences. There are many ways to backpack – from backpacking across Europe using the Eurail pass to taking a tour of national parks in the United States to trekking through a remote country on foot.

Remember that you will need to be flexible and adaptable to travel on a backpacker's budget . You may need to stay in inexpensive hostels or guesthouses or camp outdoors in a tent. If you plan to go backpacking on your own, you should have some basic survival skills, such as knowing how to read a map, set up camp, and find your way in the wilderness.

Hostels are another popular way for college students to travel affordably. These accommodations typically offer rooms where you share a bathroom with other guests or dorm-style accommodations with bunk beds. There are common areas where you can hang out, meet fellow travelers, or even work on your laptop.

Although there are many benefits to staying in hostels, such as low cost and social opportunities, it is essential to research before you book a room. For example, consider the hostel's location and whether it is safe for women travelers. Also, find out what amenities are offered – for example, many hostels will have a shared kitchen where you can cook your own meals.

Exchange Progam

Another popular way for college students to travel is through an exchange program. This program allows you to study at a foreign university while paying your regular tuition at your home university. There are typically exchange programs through student organizations or universities themselves.

If you decide to participate in an exchange program, you will need to work with your college or university to get approved for the program. You will typically need to pass a test of your language skills, provide a statement of financial resources, and meet other requirements depending on the program.

Volunteer Abroad

If you have a strong interest in volunteering abroad, many organizations can help you find volunteer opportunities. These types of programs may take place in foreign countries for periods of a week or longer.

PHOENIX — The city of Phoenix was ranked No.14 in WalletHub’s “Best Places to Celebrate 4th of July” with the patriotic holiday just days away.

WalletHub rated the top-100 most populated cities in the United States based on the following five criteria:

• Fourth of July Celebrations
• Affordability
• Attractions and Activities
• Safety and Accessibility
• Fourth of July Weather Forecast

Within those five markers, 100 total points were made available for each city. “Fourth of July Celebrations” was the most heavily-weighted at 40 points, whereas the remainder were each weighted at 15.

Los Angeles, New York City, Seattle, Las Vegas and Minneapolis rounded out the lists’ top-five cities in 2024.

Arizona’s capital performed best in the weather category (tied-first) and finished top-20 in both celebration viability (17th) and affordability (14th). It struggled in both attractions and activities (57th) and safety and accessibility (80th).

As far as day-of events go, firework lovers can indulge in the annual Fabulous Phoenix 4th or attend Light Up The Sky Independence Day Celebration at Phoenix Raceway. Both events are free admission and offer family-friendly environments including food and drinks, games and space for children to play.

AAA expects an excess of 1.5 million Arizonans to travel over the Fourth of July holiday, defined as Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, July 7.

What’s the Best City for New College Graduates?

A recent study ranked 100 of the largest U.S. cities based on median rents, job opportunities and social metrics.

Recent college graduates have plenty on their minds this summer: The national unemployment rate ticked up last month, and a widening generational wealth gap is making it harder than ever to buy a first home. Where are they supposed to go now?

A new study by Zumper might help. It analyzed the country’s 100 most populous cities to find the best ones for new graduates based on several metrics (where adequate data was available). They include median one-bedroom rents and restaurants per capita, as well as U.S. Census Bureau data on the population of 18-to-34 year olds, the number of 25-year-olds with bachelor’s degrees, the number of single people, the median income of younger residents, and local unemployment rates.

Topping the list was Minneapolis, which had a reasonable median one-bedroom rent ($1,150 a month) and ranked 15th for its unemployment rate (5.2 percent). Oklahoma City’s median rent ($849) was the lowest among the top 15 cities, helping it rank 10th overall. San Francisco ranked fifth thanks to its high median income ($87,946) for people 25 and younger — which helps with its huge median rent ($2,895).

Laredo, Texas, fell to the bottom of the list with its small share of 25-year-olds with bachelor’s degrees. It also ranked low in median income and the number of restaurants per capita. Its higher scores for median rent ($850) and unemployment rate (5.5 percent) weren’t enough to make up for its downsides. Augusta, Ga., which ranked 91st for median income ($22,861) came in 99th overall. Providence, R.I., finished just one spot higher, ranking 31st for unemployment rate (7.1 percent), and much lower than that for its paltry population of young residents.

If you’re thinking about New York City, which finished 20th overall, it had the highest median rent of any metro in the study. But it also had the largest population of residents between the ages of 18 and 34 (more than 2 million), and scored well for median income.

The Bullis School student from Potomac will be part of the 4×400-meter relay pool, his coach, Joe Lee, told The Post after the conclusion of the trials. If he were to compete in Paris — rosters are not finalized until Sunday — Wilson would become the youngest male American track athlete ever to compete in the Olympics, breaking the mark set by Arthur Newton, who was 17 when he competed in the steeplechase in 1900, according to U.S. Olympic historian Bill Mallon, The Post said.

Wilson gained immediate fame when he won his 400-meter heat at the Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, on June 22, finishing with a time of 44.66 seconds , breaking the then-under-18 world record of 44.84 set by Justin Robinson five years earlier. One day later, he earned a spot in the final by finishing third in his semifinal in 44.59 seconds , breaking his own record.

“I’m just running for my life out there,” Wilson said after that race. “The race plan went out the window but I did what my coach had told me. I have a lot of things I can do to improve myself for tomorrow [now] that I’m in the finals. … I think I have great things for tomorrow, and I can’t wait for tomorrow.”

Wilson came in sixth in the final Monday, running the single lap in 44.94 seconds and finishing outside the Olympic qualifying window.

“All I know is I gave everything that I had and then some,” Wilson said after the final. “I can’t go back and be disappointed. At the end of the day, I’m 16 running grown-man times.”
