Sunraysia Safari Rally 2023: 2023 Local Legends Sunraysia Safari nominations now open!

Sunraysia Safari Rally 2023: 2023 Local Legends Sunraysia Safari nominations now open!

FROM THE EVENT DIRECTOR:

Hi Everyone,

I'm very excited to announce that Nominations for the 2023 Local Legends Sunraysia Safari are now open! After the success of this year's event (in very trying circumstances!), popularity and enthusiasm is at an all-time high, to the point where it expected that we will have an oversubscribed field for the 2023 edition. We have a limit on the number of entries we can run, due to scheduling demands, and the requirement of daylight for our Medivac Helicopter to provide coverage of the competitive stages. I won't compromise or dilute the overall distance, or the nature of the event, to accommodate extra entries, so it very much will be a case of first in, best dressed!

The 2023 Local Legends Sunraysia Safari will be held from September 6-9 and based as always in the beautiful Wentworth Shire. We aim to have at least 1200 competitive kms over the 4 days, and as many long stages as we can piece together! Entry fees will only be $200 higher than this year; we're doing our best to keep them as low as possible, but the increasing costs we're incurring (particularly in Diesel fuel!) are proving challenging! So the Moto fee will be $2500 (inc. GST) and the Auto and Rally Divisions will be $3500 (inc. GST). We've already opened nominations to this year's competitors, and as a result, we're already over 30% subscribed! If you want to be a part of the 2023 edition, I wouldn't delay in getting the nomination form filled in and sent back to us, and pay your deposit to guarantee your place. The nomination form is available on our website www.sunraysiasafari.com.au on the "Event Documents" page.

You'll notice on the nomination form there's the usual Moto and Auto Divisions, but new for 2023 is a new "Rally" Division. We're running the "Sunraysia Rally" as part of the Sunraysia Safari, and the Rally is for PRC/Classic type "conventional" rally cars. There's a myth that the Sunraysia Safari is too hard for normal rally cars (which is totally untrue, as seen by the success of the PRC cars this year and in previous years), but to address it, the Sunraysia Rally will run most of the main "Safari" stages, but it may also run unique stages specifically for the Rally division if we think the main course might be a bit tricky in places. Either way the Rally cars will 100% be able to complete the course we set for them. Note that the Rally Division falls under the same overall Entry limits we have for the Sunraysia Safari, so if you want to have a crack at a "proper" Marathon style Outback endurance Rally, get your nominations in now.

One change for 2023 which isn't so positive is the unfortunate news that we are no longer able to run the A4 class in the Auto Division (for Buggies and Trophy Truck style vehicles), and vehicles in the A3 class need to be very much based on a production chassis (with VIN number). This is as a result of policy changes within the NSW Roads and Maritime Service (RMS), who provide Unregistered Vehicle Permits, and the advice issued by the Regional Police Command, that indicate these types of vehicles are no longer eligible to run on the permit required to participate in the event. We very much feel for the competitors that have run these types of vehicles in previous Sunraysia Safaris, but we're simply not allowed to run them anymore. We were the only rally in Australia that was allowed to run Off Road class vehicles, and regulations and requirements have now made that no longer possible. If you have any query as to the eligibility of your vehicle following this announcement, please contact me so we can work through the particulars of your situation.

Work also continues on our second event, which will be run in May of 2024, in the same style and format as the Local Legends Sunraysia Safari. I'd hoped to be able to confirm some details and make a formal announcement before Christmas, but the current flood crisis in the Wentworth Shire has required a slight change in priorities. Rest assured it's still on track, and I'll be working away on the new event right through Christmas and January, whilst we manage the flooding and resulting issues around the Wentworth Shire, and the impact on the properties we are looking to use for the 2023 Local Legends Sunraysia Safari.

Speaking of Christmas, on behalf of Anne and myself, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy and prosperous 2023, from all of us at RMA, and the wider Sunraysia Safari family. 2022 was a very challenging year, particularly for me personally, and whilst the rally did literally almost kill me this year, we've bounced back, and whilst my recovery continues at a positive but frustratingly slow pace, we're in an excellent position to deliver the very best Local Legends Sunraysia Safari in 2023! I can't wait to see you all in Wentworth once again next September!

Regards, TB

GodSilla I did that.

That's unfortunate, but older bikes do that unless you renew them. That's racing. Sorry to see you are out at this stage. Just a thought, mousse tube would remove the need to carry tyre levers too.

Hi all. Quickly pop in here while the rest of the guys service the car and get things ready for the big day tomorrow. We have had 2 good days so far, well inside our comfort zone with more on the table if needed. What I lack in top speed I've been making up for in lots of action through the trees, pretending they are just little state rally stages in themselves. For a bog stock car with some basic suspension in it, we are having a hoot.

Got off to a good start on the first stage this morning but found myself really struggling then finally realised I had a front puncture. Swapped a tube on the stage and all the places I'd made up got past me and I was back in the cars. Had a decent run in stages 2 and 3 but I'm way back on time. Hit an Emu at high speed in stage 2 which shook me a fair bit - some how I stayed upright. Anyhow - we're riding tomorrow. And that's the strategy. Having some good laughs with Rusty waiting for the starts. Top bloke.

My son had an identical valve failure on his XR600 at the Condo some years ago. Turned out it was caused by lack of lubrication to the cylinder head, caused by not reinserting the 1.5cm long piece of hollow aluminium tube (looks like a spacer, and falls out when the cover comes off),in the RHS side cover when replacing the cover. The tube takes the oil pumped into the cover, back across to the block and up to the head. Hopefully it was not that, but it has been the downfall of a lot of XR owners over the years, and we were one of them.
I made sure that tube was in... It also acts to support the cam bearing.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

sunraysia safari results 2023

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.
