Home of the Minnesota Twins

Located in the downtown Warehouse District of Minneapolis, Target Field has been the home of the Minnesota Twins since 2010. It is a fully open-air stadium that offers impressive views of the city. It replaced the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, the previous home of the Twins, which was also shared by the Minnesota Vikings and University of Minnesota football teams. The team’s original logo, titled “Minnie and Paul,” overlooks the field from above the center field bleachers.

Target Field History

Target Field was designed by Populous, an architecture firm that also designed Pittsburgh’s PNC Park, Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, and Oracle Park in San Francisco. While a fully outdoor ballpark replacing a dome was met with a bit of concern, focus groups ultimately swayed the planners, as they said a dome stadium doesn’t provide the best atmosphere for watching baseball. Target, which is based in Minneapolis, purchased the naming rights in 2008.

The stadium opened for the start of the 2010 regular season and, by the 2011 season, the Twins had added more renovations, including a scoreboard in right-center field, the “Twins Tower” next to the scoreboard, free Wi-Fi service, more heaters throughout the stadium, and better concessions. Four years after opening, Target Field was the site of the 2014 MLB All-Star Game.

It has hosted numerous concerts, including Paul McCartney, Zac Brown Band, Luke Bryan, The Eagles, The Killers, and more. The largest crowd in Target Field history was for a Kenny Chesney concert. The stadium has also been used for football games, soccer matches, and the 2022 NHL Winter Classic.

Parking and Admission at Target Field

The large ABC ramps complex near Interstate 394 is next to the stadium. Preferred game day parking is offered in Ramps A and B for $15 and Ramp C and the Hawthorne Ramp for $13 if you prepay and reserve your spot with SpotHero. Prices are up to 50% off if you prepay. You can also take the METRO Blue Line and METRO Green Line light rails to Target Field from Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Bloomington. If you’re coming from the northeast suburbs, a Northstar Line commuter train will drop you off at the stadium as well. SouthWest Transit will also take you to the stadium. The Cedar Lake Trail offers biking options to the stadium while the enclosed Skyway walkways system provides another way to get there.

Bags smaller than 16” x 16” x 8” are allowed at Target Field, as are sealed water bottles that are 32 oz. or less. Backpacks, laptop bags, duffel bags, and bags larger than what is allowed are not prohibited. If you happen to bring a prohibited bag, there is storage for them, and you can pick up your bag after the game, free of charge.

Target Field Capacity & Seating Options

Nearly 40,000 fans can fit inside Target Field, as the capacity is 39,504. Seating options are available all over the stadium, so there are plenty of vantage points. There are main level seats, terrace level seats, outfield mezzanine level seats, roof deck seats, and then club level and suite level seats. The Delta SKY360™ Club is behind home plate and mainly up the third base line while the event suites are down the right field line. Legends Landing is behind home plate, as is the Thomson Reuters Champions Club, which are arguably the most premium seats in the stadium.That club is on the field level while the rest of the club seats are on the club level. Club-level seats get you premium food and beverage service in the club and climate-controlled interiors.

Suite-level seating includes the Delta SKY360™ Suite, which is in centerfield and offers cabanas and in-seat technology to order food and beverages. Suites and club-level seats are mostly available on full or half-season packages. Annual suites deliver a setting for 20+ guests, padded seats in a climate-controlled environment, private food and beverage service, in-stadium giveaway items, and more.

Each season, Target Field offers small businesses the opportunity to sell their products in the Creator’s Corner inside Gate 34. Target Field is filled with bars, restaurants, and plenty of concession areas for fans. Truly On Deck is down the right field line and offers indoor and outdoor seating as well as places to grab a quick bite or have a sit-down meal. Minnie & Paul’s is a pub located in centerfield and is open to all guests. It offers Pizza Luce pizza and Red Cow burgers on top of a fully stocked bar. Gray Duck Deck, Gate 34 Pub, Town Ball Tavern, Hrbek’s, Twins Pub, and the Budweiser Roof Deck are all bars and restaurants open to fans during events.

There are plenty of traditional concessions, including hot dogs, sandwiches, nachos, chicken tenders, popcorn, and more. Target Field, located in the historic warehouse district of downtown Minneapolis, opened in 2010 as the home ballpark for the Minnesota Twins.

Since 2010, the Minnesota Twins have been in constant running for having the best ballpark in the majors, with the gleaming Target Field on the edge of downtown. The park certainly is a strong contender for best view beyond the outfield fence, what with the neon Twins sign and the downtown Minneapolis skyline in the distance.

Considering where the Twins used to play, the plastic-fantastic indoor Metrodome , Target Field has been a significant improvement in a lot of ways — and that’s after considering the fact that it doesn’t have a roof, making for frequently chilly environments for early-season games.

Target Field had its first moment in the spotlight when it hosted the 2014 MLB All-Star Game. Since then, the Twins have reached the postseason a handful of times, helping to shed even more light on its beautiful ballpark.

And it has also welcomed a handful of prominent non-baseball events, such as when the Minnesota Wild hosted the NHL Winter Classic in January 2022.

Indeed, the Twins franchise has come a long way since it was being considered for contraction , and its stadium stands as an enduring symbol of the team’s resurgence.

Getting to Target Field

In Minneapolis, the fact that all of three its pro sports venues (excluding the Wild’s Xcel Energy Center since it’s in St. Paul) are downtown make it easy on the region’s sports fans. Target Field was built on the edge of downtown, separated from all the tall buildings by Interstate 394 — but it’s difficult to tell because the highway is practically covered as it passes by the ballpark.

I-394 is actually a spur route that takes drivers from nearby Interstate 94 and ends just east of the ballpark, at 3rd Street North. If you pass this way, exit just before the terminus at 6th Street North and you’ll be right next to Target Field.

If you’d rather not drive but still need to reach downtown Minneapolis, take advantage of the Twin Cities region’s Metro Light Rail system, which runs two lines that converge downtown and end at Target Field. It’s a good option if you’d rather stay at a hotel outside the downtown core, or if you wanted to do a park-and-ride to Target Field, as many hometown fans do.

Use the Green Line to get to the ballpark from downtown St. Paul or anywhere between; the Blue Line will get you there from southern suburbs such as Bloomington (where the Mall of America is located) as well as Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. A single adult fare costs $2 during non-peak times and $2.50 during rush hour, but it pays to buy an all-day pass for $5 and avoid the crush of fans trying to buy fares after the game.

By the way, if you’re staying in a downtown Minneapolis hotel you’re likely within comfortable walking distance of Target Field. For example, the intersection of 7th Street and Nicollet Mall — where the Mary Tyler Moore statue stands — is just four blocks from the ballpark.

Parking at Target Field

Once you exit the highway, you have your choice of numerous parking structures in the area.

The reason why the highway is mostly covered next to Target Field is because several parking structures, or ramps, span across it. Known as the A, B, C and Hawthorne Ramps, they are all available for fans coming to the ballpark. Depending on the day of the week and the game, expect the cost to range between $12 and $20; you can also purchase Target Field parking in advance via ParkWhiz .

Drivers also have the option of heading east into downtown and finding parking at one of the numerous structures in the area, from high-rise offices to hotels to retail centers, all within a short walk of Target Field and typically cheaper (in the $5-12 range).

Things to do around target field.

Most of the restaurants, bars and hotels that give downtown Minneapolis such a vibrant scene, especially in the summer, are very close to Target Field.

Even if you’ve parked in one of the aforementioned ramps adjacent to the ballpark, it doesn’t take much effort to walk a few blocks to one of the many hangouts in the area, enjoy a few drinks or an early dinner and then head back to the game.

From Target Field, try walking into downtown via North 7th Street or North 5th Street, past the Target Center , the Minnesota Timberwolves’ home arena. The presence of two sports venues means that numerous sports bars have set up shop nearby, and all do a pretty brisk business before Twins games.

This area, while apparently a part of downtown, also represents the edge of an up-and-coming neighborhood known as the Warehouse District (technically, this is the area in which Target Field is located).

The district is also known as the North Loop, and if you’re looking for a spot that’s lesser-known to visitors and just off the beaten track from the hustle and bustle of downtown, this would be it.

Just head northeast on North 5th Avenue or North 6th Avenue, as opposed to southeast toward the Target Center, to see more options. Many of the city’s popular brewpubs and some of its most acclaimed restaurants, such as Spoon and Stable and Borough , are within a mile radius of the ballpark.

Watching a game at Target Field

You may go into your visit thinking that as one of the majors’ more recently built ballparks, Target Field doesn’t have a lot of features to offer that differentiate it from its peers. For the most part, you’d be right, but at the same time there’s still plenty worth seeing that makes it the perfect venue for its location.

In essence, the designers didn’t try too hard to give Target Field some unique quirk, and that’s a good thing. Starting with your approach to the ballpark, you’ll see that they didn’t bother with the brick-and-steel exterior that so many other parks use, and instead used glass and limestone to give it a distinctive look.

Before you go inside, check out Target Plaza on the right-field side from the ballpark — if you’re walking from the downtown/Target Center side of the highway, you’ll pass through it since it’s part of the overpass. Plaques commemorating Twins greats line the fencing of the plaza, and statues of team legends Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew and Kirby Puckett stand in the space.

Go inside — through Gate 34, numbered as such in honor of Puckett — and the theme of Target-heavy signage will continue. The name of the Minneapolis-based corporation is all over Target Field, after all, and the signs directing fans to seating areas, concession stands and more all reflect this brand.

You’ll find that the main concourse can get pretty crowded in spots, as the layout and the many features around the park are conducive to fans walking about. In right field, just past the entry turnstiles, is the “ Gate 34 Experience ,” which includes lawn games like cornhole and miniature golf as well as a two-story bar space.

Target Field’s seating bowl is well-designed and has great sight lines from just about all angles, even in the upper deck. Sit along the third-base side for that great view of downtown Minneapolis, which has to rank among the top views in the majors.

The batter’s eye in center field is fashioned to give off a country lodge feel that’s so common in Minnesota, and just above it is a large neon sign of the “Twins shaking hands” logo. In case you didn’t know, the two men in the logo have names, reflected in the name of the bar located just underneath the sign: Minnie and Paul’s .

If you feel like stretching your legs, you can get out of your seating area and explore several different parts of Target Field without giving up your view of the field. For example, just below Minnie and Paul’s is a standing-room vantage point where you can watch relievers warming up in the two bullpens.

Closer to the left-field foul pole, the Summit Brewing Pub (on the club level) and Budweiser Rooftop (on the upper concourse) provide more party spaces.

And make sure you look up to see another unique feature of Target Field, the canopy that shelters the uppermost rows of the seating bowl. Rather than having exposed steel beams holding up metal sheeting, the canopy is fashioned to look like an airplane wing, and the stadium’s lights are nestled within.

Food and drink at Target Field

If you explore the concessions at Target Field, you’ll find that the Twins do a great job honoring not only their franchise greats, but also the stars of Minnesota’s food scene as well.

For the former, Tony Oliva has his own stand serving Cuban sandwiches, and Kent Hrbek has a pub named after him, one of many sit-down bars and restaurants you can find throughout the park.

Meanwhile, some of Minnesota’s greatest hits can be found throughout the concourses. Fried cheese curds, Kramarczuk’s sausages, Murray’s steak sandwiches and Izzy’s ice cream are all local favorites worth trying, and many of these items are available in various spots around Target Field’s seating bowl.

As for beers, check out options from local breweries such as Summit and Grain Belt at the various “Minnesota Brews” stands.

Target Field bag and food policy

Per policy , approved bags for entry into Target Field must measure 16 inches by 16 inches by 8 inches or smaller, and must be single-compartment. They need not be clear, like those permitted in NFL stadiums.

Large bags such as backpacks, suitcases and purses are forbidden at Target Field, per stadium policy.

Outside food is permitted at Target Field, as long as items are contained inside soft-sided containers. Fans can also bring in factory-sealed water bottles 32 ounces or smaller.

Bags will be inspected by security at the entry gates to Target Field, and patrons carrying any bags that don’t comply with stadium policy will be denied entry.

Target Field is the most urban MLB ballpark in the United States. It was the third home of the Minnesota Twins after they relocated to Minneapolis in 1961 and sixth overall ever since the team was formed in Washington, D. C. in 1901. The design and construction of Target Field were one of the most challenging projects that called for immense planning and innovation to enhance its urban appeal and ensure an outstanding baseball stadium experience for fans.

The History

The Washington Senators moved to Minneapolis and rechristened themselves as Minnesota Twins when the 1961 season began. For the next 21 years, the team played at Metropolitan Stadium, which was also the home base of the NFL franchise Minnesota Vikings. However, the limitations and expenses forced both the Twins and Vikings to scout for a new stadium. In 1982, the Twins inaugurated the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome as its new home and continued to play there until 2009.

In 1994, Minnesota Twins owner Carl Pohlad sought to build a new stadium claiming that the Metrodome had become economically obsolete following the financial necessities of MLB. This set the stage for a 16-year struggle to find a new home for Twins that ended in 2010 with the opening of Target Field. Twice in 1994 and 1997, the plan for a retractable-roof stadium didn’t get approvals and a referendum put state spending restrictions on sports facilities. Frustrated at the denial of a new ballpark plan, the Twins contemplated to move to North Carolina and build a new stadium at Greensboro in 1998. However, a referendum there rejected their proposal. In 1999, another referendum for a new baseball stadium in St. Paul, MN, failed despite backing from its mayor.

In early 2000, a group of businessmen and investors came together to offer the Rapid Park adjacent to downtown Minneapolis to build a new baseball stadium for the Twins. Known as Minnesota Urban Ballpark and MN Twinsville, they played a key role in getting approval for Target Field. The land they collectively owned was a parking lot and a part of the historic Warehouse District. Their lobbying led to the city forming a citizen panel while the Minnesota Twins created Minnesotans for Major League Baseball, an advisory group of 130 people to consider funding aspects.

In 2001, there were rumors that MLB had a contraction plan that might end the Twins’ participation. This created a public opinion favorable toward a new baseball stadium and the Hennepin County offered to build a new ballpark as a partner in 2002. Despite political powerplay and challenges, Minneapolis started the process to acquire the Rapid Park site in 2003. The Minnesota Twins and Hennepin County agreed on the funding in 2005 and the state legislature approved a new stadium plan in 2006. The county raised the sales tax by 0.15% to finance $392 million for the ballpark.

Despite disputes and controversies over the land value, the first brick for Target Field was laid on May 21, 2007.

Design and Features

The new baseball stadium was named Target Field in 2008 after the Minnesota Twins inked an agreement allowing Minneapolis-based Target Corporation to acquire naming rights for 25 years. The deal helped increase the seating capacity, add public art, decorate the top deck with canopies, build a plaza, and construct a pedestrian bridge connecting the stadium with downtown Minneapolis.

In January 2010, the staff moved into the new arena and Target Field saw the first game on April 12, 2010. The Twins beat the Boston Red Sox 5-2. Many consider the field as a modern reincarnation of Oriole Park at Camden Yards . The designer also drew inspiration from its previous designs, including PNC Park of the Pirates.

The design of Target Field is an interesting combination of urban elements and efforts to maximize the baseball experience. While sustainability and urban design continue to remain the hallmark of the ballpark, it uses spatial connection both inside and outside. There are also a heated field and heated decks. This allows more than 8,000 visitors to roam around the stadium at any time during a game day while enjoying the game without any obstruction.

Target Field has the same dimensions and seating capacity as Fenway Park . However, extensive use of local limestone makes it distinct among all MLB ballparks. The baseball stadium is also the second after Oracle Park of San Francisco to have LEED Silver Certification and the first to get LEED Gold in 2017.

To enhance fan experience and comfort, Target Field underwent a $23 million upgrade in 2008. The Twins added the largest canopy soffit and also the fourth-biggest scoreboard in MLB. Warming shelters were set up to protect fans from extreme cold weather. The 2011 season saw the inauguration of the illuminated Twins Tower, and free Wi-Fi, more concession facilities.

Tiger Field boasts the only bonfire among all MLB venues. Located left-field Budweiser roof deck, the bonfire is surrounding by an ample standing place to enjoy the game. There are also warming rooms offering succor to fans from the punishing Minnesota winter during game evenings. Double-decker bullpens are another new feature at the Minneapolis baseball stadium. There is also a public plaza, green space, and an amphitheater.

Target Plaza is the center of all public spaces at Target Field. Adjacent to Gate 34, it hosts bronze statues of former greats of the Minnesota Twins and a giant wave veil that emits lights as flutters with the wind. A large “Golden Glove” about 160 meters from home plate commemorates all home team members who won the Gold Glove Award. It is an important photo-up place for visitors to the ballpark.

The home plate we see today at Target Field was originally at the Metrodome until 2009. After the last game there, it was dug up and relocated to the new baseball stadium. Similarly, the Stars and Stripes flag pole at Target Field was from Metropolitan Stadium. There are smaller poles on the left upper rim hosting flags of each division, league, and championship the Minnesota Twins have played. The flags on the right upper rim represent all MLB teams.

The Town Ball Tavern is the place to feast on Jucy Lucy burgers at Target Field. The upper concourse bar has the famed wooden flooring from Minneapolis Armory basketball stadium, where the Los Angeles Lakers played until 1960. Close to the home plate at the upper concourse, there are Two Gingers Pubs. While one bar hosts game-day performances by organist Sue Nelson , the other is the place to sip a drink while watching ongoing games.

Hrbek bar and pub on the main concourse adjacent to the home plate at Target Field is a tribute to Kent Hrbek , who played with the Twins as its first baseman for 14 years. Bat & Barrel restaurant offers a range of delectable items on the menu while the State Fair Foods stand is the place to savor “stick” items.

The Shaking Hands Logo

The Minnesota Twins have “Minnie and Paul” – two uniformed players shaking hands – as their eternal logo. They are donning the uniforms of the Minneapolis Millers and St. Paul Saints in the backdrop of a Minnesota map. A giant cutout of the logo continues to be there overlooking the center field at Target Field. Whenever a home-team player scores, lights on the map starts blazing from the bottom-left corner. Corner lights flash to signify strikeout zones. Top lights flash when the opposite team fails to get a run from the Twins.

Whenever the Twins win a home run at Target Field, lights turn into full flow showing the river in the logo cascading while Minnie and Paul shake hands. If the home team emerges victorious in a game, the “T” and “s” in “Twins” flash with animations.

• Target Field is the third home of the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis and the sixth in the United States.
• The ballpark hosted the inaugural MLB game on April 12, 2010, with the Twins beating the Red Sox .
• The Twins won three Central Division titles and one Wild Card berth while playing at Target Field.
• Two weeks before the first MLB game, a special event was held at Target Field for all season ticket holders. It was a two-day event covering March 20 and 21, 2010.
• The baseball stadium saw the first game of baseball on March 27, 2010. The Louisiana Tech played the University of Minnesota attended by about 36,000 fans.
• On April 2 and 3, 2010, the home team hosted the Louis Cardinals on a preseason tour.
• The entrance through Target Plaza is the most favored entry point at the baseball park.
• The construction of Target Field began only after the Minnesota Twins signed a deal to stay in Minneapolis for 30 years.

This is a great place to watch a baseball game. There is a great public transit with the light rail system that can take you right to the ballpark. The stadium that the Twins play in is family friendly, clean & modern with a great feeling inside it.

We got to see many areas of the park that would otherwise be off limits to fans, including the dugouts, visitor locker room, suites, championship rooms, press box, underground, and on the side lines. Just don’t touch the grass! We were allowed to take many pictures, just not video due to copyright issues. This seems like an amazing ballpark. Too bad the Twins were at an away game when we were in town.

Patrick Beverley's Viral Post On X About Anthony Edwards During Timberwolves-Nuggets Game

On Saturday evening, the Minnesota Timberwolves are playing the Denver Nuggets (in Colorado) for Game 1 of their second-round playoff series.

Anthony Edwards got off to an excellent start to the game, and had 25 points, four rebounds, one steal and one block while shooting 10/17 from the field and 3/4 from the three-point range in his first 21 minutes of playing time.

Many people on social media were talking about Edwards and one person who sent out a post was Patrick Beverley.

Edwards has established himself as arguably the best shooting guard in the NBA.

He finished the regular season with averages of 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.3 steals per contest while shooting 46.1% from the field and 35.7% from the three-point range in 79 games.

The Timberwolves are also the third seed in the Western Conference and had a 56-26 record.

Beverley and Edwards were teammates for one season on the Timberwolves (2021-22).

That season, the team reached the NBA playoffs as the seventh seed in the Western Conference (and lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round in six games).

This past year, Beverley was with the Milwaukee Bucks, who lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round (in six games).
