Inflation and the economy top voters' concerns but abortion has dominated the campaign stump talk in the past few days since trump flip-flopped on his stance on florida's proposed abortion amendment..

BOYNTON BEACH — The top Harris-Walz campaign official, the chair of the national Democratic Party and four members of Congress gathered here Tuesday morning, Sept. 3, to kick off a bus tour intended to magnify their differences on abortion with Republican Donald Trump and his recent back-and-forth on the issue.

"For the next few months, we will be traveling across the country, going community to community, to make sure every voter understands what's on the line for our reproductive rights in this election," said Harris-Walz campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez. "And we're kicking off here in Trump's backyard."

During the introduction of the "Onboard the Reproductive Freedom Bus Tour," Chavez Rodriguez was preceded by DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, and U.S. Reps. Lois Frankel of West Palm Beach and Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Weston. Also speaking Tuesday were the Democrats' Florida U.S. Senate nominee Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and TV commentator Ana Navarro.

"He calls it the 'winter White House,' " Klobuchar said of Trump's Mar-a-Lago home, about 10 miles from the Boynton Beach event. "I call it his retirement home. He's the one that got us in this mess. He is the one who has clearly stated on video that he was proudly the one who was responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade. And Florida, you are going to hold him to it."

Navarro spoke of her own pregnancy crisis that could have ended her life if it were to happen under Florida's restrictive six-week abortion ban. Anya Cook, a Coral Springs mom, also talked about how the state's law almost killed her when she nearly bled to death when she suffered a miscarriage.

“Because of the abortion ban in my state, doctors could not induce labor, leaving me at far greater risk of infection and hemorrhage," Cook said.

She added that Trump "has comprehensive plans to ban abortion nationwide, which could inflict the kind of pain that I went through on women in all 50 states.”

Harrison called on men to speak up in favor of abortion rights as well.

"Fellas, we have to roll the plate," he said. "We must also show up."

Trump campaign digs at bus tour after candidate stumbled on Amendment 4

The gathering at the Benvenuto wedding venue and restaurant also drew a couple dozen Trump supporters who camped out in a parking lot across the street with flags and a loudspeaker playing music and excerpts from Trump rallies.

"Considering gas prices are 50% higher than when she took office, Kamala Harris is wasting MONEY and time spewing lies about President Trump in Florida because Florida is TRUMP Country," Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. "Republican policies are what turned Florida red, and why it will continue to be a place Americans flock to for freedom. That's why Floridians will overwhelmingly vote for President Trump on November 5th."

While polls show inflation and the economy topping voters' concerns, the abortion issue has dominated the campaign stump talk the past few days since Trump flip-flopped on his stance on Florida's proposed constitutional Amendment 4.

In an interview in Michigan on Thursday, Aug. 29, Trump criticized Florida's six-week ban saying "six weeks is too short. It has to be more time, and I've told them that I want more weeks."

He then added: "I am going to be voting that we need more than six weeks."

On Friday, however, Trump said he would vote "no" on Amendment 4. The ballot amendment would overturn abortion restrictions implemented by Gov. Ron DeSantis and the GOP-dominated Florida Legislature. A "no" vote would keep those measures, including the state's six-week abortion ban, in place.

Bus tour kicks off with exuberant, energetic rally

The kick-off event drew a couple hundred exuberant Harris-Walz supporters and volunteers.

One of them was Joann Waldorf, one of the thousands of Democrats who stepped forward to volunteer after President Joe Biden exited the race and endorsed Vice President Harris.

"I really believe she is bringing such positiveness to this campaign," said Waldorf, a retired teacher who taught computer science. "I am just sick of such negative, such bigotry, such anti-everything."

Waldorf, a Boynton Beach resident, said she had not been politically active, although she is a lifelong Democrat. But she did register Republican for a brief moment this spring to vote for Nikki Haley in Florida's presidential primary.

Frankel, who represents the congressional district that includes Trump's Mar-a-Lago, noted there are 25 million American women of reproductive age living in states with restrictive bans on abortion. And she reminded the crowd that Trump has said the overturning of the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision was an "amazing" moment and the ensuing abortion restrictions across the United States a "beautiful thing."

"He calls that 'amazing,' " Frankel said. "He says 'amazing.' We're saying we're not going back."

The political campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris launched a new bus tour in Palm Beach County, focusing on reproductive rights and making at least 50 stops in battleground states.

A total of 500 supporters of Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, gathered at the Benvenuto Restaurant and Banquet Facility on Federal Highway for the kick-off Tuesday.

"The tour will make at least 50 stops in battleground states," the campaign announced.

U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Congresswoman Lois Frankel and Harris-Walz campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez spoke at the event.

“Welcome to Palm Beach County, where Donald Trump calls home. But don’t hold that against us, because this crowd is ready to give Kamala Harris a promotion," Frankel said.

Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate for Florida, also spoke at the event, urging voters to vote 'yes' on Amendment 4 in November.

“In November, we must choose a future where women's rights are respected and reproductive freedom is guaranteed," Mucarsel-Powell said. “That is why in the state of Florida, we are going to show the rest of the country who we are here, we will pass Amendment 4 and make sure to enshrine reproductive freedom into our rights."

The campaign is hoping to appeal to Floridians opposed to the state’s current six-week abortion law and garner more votes for the Harris-Walz ticket and Amendment 4.

“Americans have shown us time and time again that they will not tolerate a country where our daughters have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers, that they believe that women have the right to make their own health care decisions and not politicians," Klobuchar said.

Other speakers included Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and Republican TV personality Ana Navarro.

"The tour heads to Jacksonville on Wednesday with state Sen. Tracie Davis joining," the campaign added.

The tour will then proceed to Savannah, Georgia, on Thursday.

7 killed in Mississippi bus crash identified

Among those killed was a 16-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother.

Seven Mexican nationals killed in a Mississippi bus crash over the weekend were identified Monday, including a 16-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother, authorities said.

The names were released to ABC News by Warren County Coroner Doug L. Huskey a day after the National Transportation Safety Board announced that the preliminary investigation showed a tire failure caused the motor coach to run off the road and overturn.

Huskey identified those killed in the crash as 8-year-old Kain Gutierrez and his 16-year-old sister, Perla Gutierrez. Another 16-year-old girl who died was identified as Angelica Palomino, according to Huskey.

Also killed were Miguel Ariaga, 61; Elia Guzman, 63; and Victor Aviles Garcia, 32, and his 30-year-old brother, Moises Aviles Garcia, according to Huskey.

Huskey said that due to a language barrier, Kain Gutierrez was initially identified as 6 years old.

The crash happened early Saturday, east of Vicksburg, and left 37 other people injured, according to the highway patrol.

The 2018 Volvo commercial passenger bus, traveling from Atlanta to Dallas, was driving westbound on Interstate 20 when it drove off the road Saturday just before 1 a.m. local time, according to the highway patrol.

Six people were pronounced dead at the scene and one person died at Merit Heath Hospital in Vicksburg, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The co-driver was not transported to a hospital, authorities said.

The Mexican consulate said in its statement that it has contacted a legal firm to help obtain detailed information about the crash.

Harris campaign launches Reproductive Freedom Bus Tour in Florida

PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — A new bus tour to support Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid will begin this week in Boynton Beach, Florida.

The Harris’ campaign highlighted the choice to kick off its “Reproductive Freedom Bus Tour” near former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate. Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Harris-Walz campaign manager Julie Chavez-Rodriguez, Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Ana Navarro, and Anya Cook are slated to be the featured speakers at the event.

“This election is about freedom – and the American people want and deserve the freedom to make their own health care decisions,” Harris-Walz Campaign Manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said.

This bus tour is being used as a way to highlight the differences between the Democratic nominee’s stance on reproductive rights versus those held by Trump, whom they describe as playing a major role in the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

The entire bus tour is expected to make 50 stops across the country. While Klobuchar will be featured during the Palm Beach kickoff, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz are expected to join in other cities.

The Harris campaign did not release a full list of stops but explained that it plans to go to both Democratic and Republican strongholds.

“The ‘Fighting for Reproductive Freedom’ bus tour will drive home for voters that this threat to our fundamental freedoms touches every American,” Chavez Rodriguez continued.

On August 25, Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, said he does not believe the former president would support a national abortion ban, if he were reelected, and would veto such a bill.

"I can absolutely commit that," Vance said when asked on NBC's "Meet the Press" whether he could commit to Trump not imposing such a ban. "Donald Trump's view is that we want the individual states and their individual cultures and their unique political sensibilities to make these decisions because we don't want to have a nonstop federal conflict over this issue."

The next stop for the bus tour is Jacksonville, Florida on Wednesday and Savannah, Georgia on Thursday.
