Ridiculous. They want your private info just to see cruises.

The issue is I can't won't even provide viewing of the cruises available until they have my private information. After reading the reviews here and elsewhere with so many negatives, and some positives, they sound too hit and miss to have earned my private information just to be able to see what they offer. It's ridiculous and no way to to business when there are so many competitors.

We cruise a lot and over the years have checked to see if I could get the cruise cheaper than we can in the UK a complete waste of time have always been more expensive I am giving up on them.

Extremely Helpful and great customer service

I booked a last minute Mediterranean cruise for 2 from NZ. Vacations to go were extremly helpful as we were working in different time zones. They enabled me to change and add an extra person to the booking 1 week out. I would use them again anytime I booked a cruise offshore. Livi Duran was lovely to work with.

We were charged extra $1500 without our permission, and zero help from their customer service. Do not book through Vacations To Go. Find your cruise and then book through the cruise ship company directly. It's the same price. We booked from Vacations To Go and were upgraded to a higher priced cabin without our knowledge. By the time we realized what had happened, they had our deposit and the original cabins we wanted were not available for the price they quoted. For their illegal action, they gave us $100 on board credit. No refund no waiver of cancellation fee. We would have taken onboard credit in equal value of fraud, but the best they can do is %10 from our next booking. Thanks but no thanks. Don't book through Vacations To Go.

They claim to provide massive discounts, so I tested if this was true. I compared a couple cruises from their site to one I trust and have used often, the prices were the same. I hate these kinds of tactics.

Best agent ever! Great experience

My agent, Alessia Silva at extension 7063, was absolutely wonderful to work with. When my cruise line canceled an upcoming cruise, she carefully followed RCCL’s instructions on how to book a new cruise and get full credit for what I’d paid. She even called them several times during the process. While she was preparing my paperwork, she found a cheaper price and saved me almost $1,000! I highly highly highly recommend her as a caring agent who will always go above and beyond your expectations.

Great Customer Service & Prices

Excellent service, great prices, and constant communication with my agent Zoe Felder, and when Zoe was unavailable (her day off) I spoke with other agents who were just as responsive. Jose Rodriguez was super kind he printed out my luggage tags for me and helped me understand how to navigate the Princess app. Great company I look forward to working with VTG for my Singapore vacation next year.

I’ve always had excellent service from…VTG

I’ve always had excellent service from Vacations to Go, first from Miguel Conner and now from Evan Rosen, nothing is too much trouble for them. I find them extremely courteous and helpful. I have used them quite a few times now, I shop around and go with the cheapest price which quite often they are, I don’t understand these bad reviews at all!

1/2 day Snorkel trip

We were set up on a snorkel trip thru Vacation to go, while waiting for 2 hours on the dock for another cruise ship to dock, I called to get my money back and leave the excursion but keep getting put on hold. No one could help me so would not recommend this service at all. So went on trip but still cut the trip short because we did not have enough time.

DO NOT TRUST VACATION TO GO

I have booked the cruise to Panama Canal trough Vacationtogo. Upon the booking they have guarantted that in case of prices will change I will get opgrade or other compensation. I got this guarantee on my boocking confirmation’ Unfortunatly they rejected my requet to get compensation/upgrade when the price for the same category of cabin fall down. They informed that the new price is only for new bookings. Do not trust Vacationtogo. best regards Peter Rojtburg

Terrible customer service

I have booked interline travel on many occasions with vacations to go. Most recently I booked a 10 day cruise on Princess cruises. I asked to add the Princess Plus and they said they were unable to do this. The very next day I saw the same cruise on Perx and called and they could book the cruise cheaper and they were able to add the package we wanted. VTG has terrible customer service. I've contacted them, including supervisors several times with no resolution.

I booked through the vacations to go a solo cruise. They recommended a single solo travel group called VTG I signed up. I was sexually assaulted on an elevator on the princess cruise line on day, three of my cruise by a member of the group. The men were absolutely inappropriate and sexually harassing me if you are female and slightly attractive beware . I filed police reports and reported to the cruise ship who did not protect me. They let the attacker roam the ship while I had to stay in my room for five of the seven days out of fear of running into him and retaliation for reporting the assault the assailant was a retired police captain females beware of the single travel groups you are not protected

Booked with Vacations To Go a few times in the past and when I went to book a carribean cruise for six people with Celebrity sailing on the Equinox from Fort Lauderdale. The agent informed me I could not have the perks it was no perks only so no WiFi no drinks and no gratuities only . So I went and booked with Viva Voyage 5 minutes later with all perks drinks package plus WiFi plus gratuities. So not sure why Vacations to go did this to me but it's their loss.

Great Customer Service

Don’t understand why some of the other reviewers have found Vacations to go falling below standards. I have used them twice and found them brilliant. This time Thomas Kaminski was so helpful, always replied promptly and has gone above and beyond to make the booking process as easy and trouble free as possible … 5 stars from me!

Booked for 50th wedding anniversary

Booked for 50th wedding anniversary. Assured we had an ocean view after paying extra. Assured they had 24 hour room service. I called and asked Justice if they had elevators as my husband has a cane. No answer. Arrived put on 4th floor. Changed to ground floor and we’re put across from loud disco party. No room service had to rent a scooter to get anywhere. Terrible customer service. I have written to Justice three times no answer

Kathleen McClintock - Two Thumbs Down

Kathleen McClintock was the agent that book my family’s first family vacation. EVERTHING was terrible. Once we were all booked there was no getting in contact with the agent (Kathleen McClintock). It was 5-families we did NOT want adjoining rooms; my sister and her family and brother and his family had adjoining rooms. Our elderly patents were assigned to a different shuttle. The agent (Kathleen McClintock) recommended The Royalton Blue Waters Resort because the had a “kids club”. The kid’s club was closed! Most of the restaurants on the resort was closed. This was the worst vacation of my life. I will NEVER use Vacations To Go again. I will never recommend Vacations To Go.

Last Minute Unnotified Cancellation

Book a 40th year anniversary trip with VtoG. The representative initially contacted Norwegian Cruise Lines and all seemed to be as planned. About two weeks from travel departure the VtoG rep. was not responding to any of our request for service. No return phone calls or E mails, nothing. We had all the documents needed to proceed on the trip. We finally got in touch with Norwegian after (finally) hours and hours on the phone, They (Norwegian) stated the trip was cancelled. Our bags were packed, only hours from leaving our home and heading off to the airport. So far out $14,000 U.S. and no one is talking.

One and done- never use this company!

We booked our family cruise with Vacations to go and only got lip service from Donell. She always had an excuse why she didn’t get back with us. She made promises that we found out later were never going to happen. When we booked the cruise we told her from day one we wanted to have our 5 rooms on the same floor, this did not happen, she indicated she would make notes in our reservation, only to be told later by her manager this was impossible to do in there system. They got our money and could have cared less in helping us with any concerns/questions we had. Oh and the cruise line basically said we were SOL because we did not book directly with them. Never again will I use a booking company they are there for the commission only not customer service. One and done is there motto.

Incredible service

Incredible service. We had several requests and changes and Annie Duffy really went the extra mile to make sure that we found the right cruise and got the best deal. And she made every step very easy. Highest recommendation. Also this was my first experience booking with Vacations to Go. Very easy, integrated with the cruise line, and great prices.

Extremely poor service

I bought a cruise with Vacations to go. My consultant was Piper Sereni. While I was experiencing difficulty in obtaining my visa where I had to travel to another country, all Piper could do was to threaten me: staring the full paymebt will be lost. It is something beyond my control and I even took out insurance against incidentals but she cannot stop threatening me. This is our 24th cruise and we cruised with the same cruise lines on 5 occasions previously. This is poor service from NCL as well as Vacations to go. Need I say more. I will not be using either of them going forward. Full payment was lost because only emergency medical treatment and death is covered with the cancellation policy purchased. Air line gave a future dated air ticket to be used in the next 3 years without any insurance policy for the same reason.

Overall Very Positive

My first agent, Max Richardson, didn’t reply to my emails after booking. There is always a survey link, which I filled out honestly, and the president of the company Alan Fox called me and was very apologetic. I then worked with Devan King for several trips and she was beyond fantastic, especially searching out discounts and accommodating when I called with price drops. I gave her great reviews and then she got promoted so she can’t book cruises anymore, sadly. I was moved to Vanessa, who was on vacation while my final payment was due. Luckily, I called in and a manger processed it. Vanessa was shortly fired. Devan then referred me to a wonderful, very experienced agent, Fallon Lopez, who is extremely responsive even in her time off! Be proactive in choosing who you work with. If you just accept whoever answers your call, you may end up with a new/poor employee. A lot of these reviews are showing people didn’t do their research about their cruise or understand dynamic pricing. If your preferred agent is off work today, call customer service and a manger will help you. Always complete the survey!! They do read those and adjust staff accordingly. You’re never going to get a bottle of wine in your room like a small travel agent would give you. That comes out of their commission and VTG reduces the price of your cruise instead.

Disappointed in the customer service.

All I can say is that I’m extremely upset and disappointed with this company during my experience with some issues that arose on my Globus escape to Ireland this past week (Feb 24-March 3) You book trips through travel agencies so that they can help you with the trip and any details/ problems that may arise when problems happen. I was stranded in Ireland during the big snow storm that pretty much shut the country down in the middle of my trip. I emailed Briton my agent on Thursday and got an “I am out of the office” till Monday. I needed her to help with a return flight that was cancelled. I ended up calling the company at least 5 times and spoke with 5 different people (PC, Hampton, dahlia, edward, Abby) and only one had the courtesy to call me back (Edward). I would like to suggest that in the future if the agent is gonna be gone, please leave your customers with 1person who can help you. If your agent can’t help you with problems, then why do I even need to book through one. I felt abandoned in a foreign country trying to navigate flights, transportation, and booking hotel rooms. All I pretty much got is “There’s nothing I can do” over and over. And since my return, there has been no response from the company with at least an apology. In the end I got home worn out.

Once I could get ahold of them Vacation to go were pretty good

It was really hard to contact them as I do not live in the USA; however I found the person I did talk to was good. Have not gone on my vacation so will hope that everything is correct, however I felt I had good service. The person who helped me gave good service and I felt he tried to get a good deal. Was hoping for a better one, however I felt he did his best.

I won't book a car with them furthermore a cruise...

This place has some of the worst agents and absolutely most horrible customer service around! Because of a previous review we read on this company we decided to check early and get details on a cruise before booking with them. We had to contact them on 5 different occasions for information.... THREE times we were given THREE different quotes ONTHE SAME CRUISE (even though the actual display price never changed). Two other time they never even replied. It's clear that they have no standard of service. How can the same company provide 3 different quotes for the same cruise?!? The agents are have NO form of customer service training. It's like all they see is commission, commission, commission and if you're not ready to book immediately they could care less. On a previous issue we've been contacted by a Customer Care Manager and even the company CEO. This too was a joke.... the manager kept referring to the wrong cruise line (ie he had no idea which line the ship was from). Then to make matters worse the company CEO said the company never received our email (not knowing we received an auto-reply stating it was successfully received). Don't lie if you know you can't cover your tracks... SMH. This company is a complete mess and as indicated I won't book a car with them furthermore a cruise! Cruisedirect & Expedia both offer cruise selection where you can book and see your exact pricing information in real time. No sending off for details and waiting for people to reply.... then having to send off your credit card details... UNPROFESSIONAL !!

Time for a change in travel agents?

We have a good relationship with Vacations to Go through several past cruises. The agents are helpful and the prices and on-board credits have been comparable to or better than booking directly with the cruise lines. However, we recently had cause to review the travel insurance that VTG sold us (Generali) for a trip this summer, and compare it with other coverage available. I was shocked, but unfortunately discovered this too late to cancel: Generali does NOT cover COVID-related costs such as trip cancellation, interruption, delays, etc. Yet, we easily found found other companies that DO cover COVID-related costs, have equal or better benefits in other categories, and offer policies that are about 30% cheaper. VTG is either not willing to do the work to find better coverage for their customers, or they are just picking a policy that generates the most money for them. I haven't decided whether to stop using them completely, or just stop getting travel insurance through them.

Useless. My mom and her siblings were going on 16-day Transatlantic Princess cruise. My uncle, who always books cabin for only himself, got sick and could not go about a week before the cruise. I called Princess to see if I could take my uncle's place since the cruise was paid for. They told me it was too late to switch names which policy in itself is a weird since Princess was still booking the cruise. They told me to contact Vacations To Go and talk to the agent my Uncle booked with. I thought great; the agent will fight for me to get the cabin switched to my name. The agent did not fight for me and told me the cabin could not be transferred to my name, and my Uncle would only be able to get his taxes back, but he had to cancel the cruise. The next day I had an idea: Instead of transferring the cabin to my name, why don't I try to be added to the booking by paying for myself as the second occupant of my Uncle's cabin. I thought since my Uncle had booked single occupancy, I would pay much less as the second guest than what my Uncle had paid. I called Vacations To Go and they told me my Uncle had paid for a double-occupancy cabin (Why a double-occupancy, I don't know because he always books a cabin just for himself), and I would only have to pay the taxes on the cruise to be added to the cabin. Great. I will pay the taxes, be added to the cabin, and then my Uncle can cancel, and I can go on the cruise for just the cost of the taxes. Well, my Uncle had just cancelled the cruise before I called, and Vacations to Go did nothing. I had my Uncle's cruise reservation, but I had zero idea he had paid for a double occupancy. Vacations To Go knew he had paid for a double occupancy, so why didn't they suggest adding me to cabin booking when I first called? They are supposed to be the cruise experts, and I bet this type of problem does arise quite frequently. If the cruise line won't let you change names and is still booking, then suggest adding an individual to the cabin, especially if the cabin is completely paid for and the new guest would only pay the cruise taxes. I am missing out on 4K+ cruise because Vacations To Go would not fight for their customers, and they are also completely incompetent on cruise policies. I felt like they had gotten my Uncle's money and that was that, and they didn't want to help solve a common problem that had a simple solution.

Worst travel agency experience ever .

I called late , almost at the end of the business hours on Friday Jan 19 to get a final price on a 16 d cruise w Norwegian company . The agent Cesalie Watler said it was $950 + tax . The advertised price I had was $599 + tax & I told her I can email her the price I had on an email from them . After being placed on hold she said ,,oh , I found it , it is $599 “. I asked to get an email w the total price which I did . Saturday I emailed her asking to book it . She emailed me right away and asked me to provide our names & DOB & she would place the cabin on hold & call me next day to finalize the booking . On her Saturday email to me she had her phone number and office hours for Saturday listed 11AM TO 8 PM . I did not hear from her next day so I left a voice message & sent an Email . Still nothing . Monday I left another voicemail without any response. I spoke w supervisor Abby who said would investigate and her attitude was like ,, things happen ! Also informed me that the cruise was sold out ! I was promised that Cesalie will call me w an explanation to what happened. Never called me ! I emailed my complaint to Cesalie’s manager Beltran Abordo who sent me an email claiming he tried to call me & leave a voice mail twice but was not able to go thru . I had absolutely no missed calls or messages and my phone worked just fine . He tried to convince me that Cesalie did not book the cruise or contact me because she was not in the office Saturday . He forgot she emailed me Saturday & did not think I noticed her office ours listed . Had no explanation why she did not call Monday either ! Did not take any responsibility for mishandling this situation . Tried to imply that was my fault . Ang guess what? He said now they have the cruise available at $950 ! How convenient ! I think that Cesalie was told not to book this cruise at the lower price & just not call me back . They hoped I would take the cruise with the increased rate . Dishonest , deceiving , unethical and lying . I am convinced that they will respond to my complaint with a fabricated explanation and a lie . This behavior is unacceptable and I wonder if the higher management of this company knows what is going on .

I bought a cruise to Antarctica in VTG

I bought a cruise to Antarctica in VTG. During the period of VTG's offer, the RR class cabin was guaranteed at the price indicated. When I agreed to the price and class of the cabin on the ship and I paid the full price by credit card, I received an email confirming the payment and booking of the cabin on the ship. Unfortunately, the RS cabin was marked in the confirmation, which is much lower class than the RR, which I agreed to. It is also much smaller in size and with worse equipment. To my attention, that there was probably a mistake and that it needs to be corrected, because the final reservation is incompatible with the offer I agreed to and I paid for, I received a negative response from VTG. Both the employee and his boss started shooting and lying to me that the cabin numbers were ultimately allocated by the shipowner. They decided that I was a loser who would not distinguish a cabin number from a cabin class guarantee. They also tell fairy tales that now I can live the hope that the shipowner will, however, give me a better cabin, for which I paid anyway, as he will have them free and have a good mood. These are explicit mockery from the client. Watch out for such simple VTG scams. In addition, VTG authorizes credit cards in a very outdated and archaic way. It does not send a special link to secure payment by credit card via the Internet, it only calls the telephone and requests all credit card details during the telephone conversation, as it was in the first half of the 20th century. This is a very old and dangerous form of payment, which has been banned for years in Europe. You don't know what happens next with your credit card information. They are not encrypted in the computer system like a secure internet payment. Everyone has access to this data to whom the employee will want to pass it on. But VTG's maintenance of such a card payment system is beneficial for VTG because it allows fraud with cabin classes. In the case of a secure link, the general conditions which you agree to and pay for must be provided during payment. For outdated telephone payments, it all depends on the integrity of the VTG employee you don't know. My cabin case is still not resolved by VTG. They also did not offer any compensation for their mistake to the detriment of the client.

All about the Sale before the Service

All about the Sale before the Service. I took the insurance Vacations to Go was selling because it had to be better than the cruise line’s captive insurance, and I knew I needed insurance, because it was going to be my first cruise since Covid. I was fully vaccinated and "bivalented" and senior flu vaxxed, and I'd been exposed a few times and never got it. There were few masks and close quarters on my first cruise in years, and, by the fifth day of my 15-day cruise, I had the version of Covid that makes you utterly weak, constantly exhausted, and struggling for oxygen while feeling you are breathing. I was confined to an interior cabin, started on Paxlovid, and told the soonest I could leave my cabin would be six days later. I contacted my travel agent because I could not decipher the insurance policy they sold me, and I was very very sick. I asked them to get me off the ship so I could recover at home, or, at least, not serve more solitary confinement than a prisoner at San Quentin! The travel agent ignored me for a day and then gave me links to the insurance and thereafter ghosted me. That's my last time with Vacations to Go! They never rescued me. They never intervened with Generali to provide service. They got their commission, and all they did from then on was write emails telling me they were “escalating.” They even had the nerve to send me an email denying that I’d ever contacted them, though they somehow withdrew that email. I may have gotten a discount of $75 cheaper than buying the cruise directly from the cruise line, but the only place I could use the $75 on-board credit was to pay for the $800 Paxlovid or the antibiotics and medical care costing another $450. Instead, they did nothing to get me off that boat. They left me abandoned, locked in a tiny cabin for six days while they didn't answer emails and, when called, they just told me they were escalating and we hadn't even opened a claim. After I got home, they worked with their insurance agency, Generali, to set up a series of barriers, so I had to assign the case to a paralegal in my office to jump the hoops. First, Generali insisted I prove I made a claim against my health insurance. Next, prove I made a claim to the travel agency. Then, fill out an outdated form of Generali’s asking, at one point, for how Paxlovid is compounded. I'm back almost a month now with nothing but lies and obfuscation and "we're escalating" as they click off the days until the claim is untimely under their tricky dick policy. The fun part for me is that I'm a lawyer, and I know I'm going to sue for the medical and the reimbursement and the cost of the flight they should have put me on. It'll cost me more than I will recover, but I intend to take their lawyer out for a martini afterwards. Maybe he'll pay with all the law firm will charge to defend. If you aren't a lawyer and want the insurance you thought you bought, don’t buy it from Vacations to Go, and, if you thought that you were buying through a travel agent to have an advocate if things go wrong far away from home, use a real travel agent. Stay away from these defrauders.

Incompetence and Unprofessionalism: A Disastrous Experience with Mimi Montgomery at Vacations to Go

TLDR: Horrible experience… Run, don’t walk, away from Mimi Montgomery & Vacations to Go. I recently had the misfortune of booking a trip with Mimi Montgomery, a travel agent at Vacations to Go, and I cannot express enough my disappointment and frustration with the entire experience. From start to finish, Mimi displayed a level of incompetence and unprofessionalism that left my family and me in a state of disbelief. We booked the Globus Tours 12 Day tour: Brazil, Argentina, and Chile with the expectation that Mimi would provide the necessary support and assistance throughout the process. However, her promises of exceptional service quickly proved to be nothing more than empty words. During the booking process, Mimi assured us that she would help us change our flights to more desirable times if we were dissatisfied with the ones assigned (given she was “unable to provide the times to us in advance of booking”). However, once we booked and requested the change, we were hit with an unexpected fee of $200 per person, totaling $1000. We had never authorized this change, yet Mimi went ahead and altered our flights without our consent. Only after escalating the matter to her managers did they acknowledge the error and waive the fee. Such careless and deceptive actions are inexcusable and reflect a complete lack of integrity on Mimi's part. As if this incident wasn't enough, on July 11, 2023, Mimi sent an email to myself and an unrelated individual containing all our personal and reservation information. It was a shocking breach of privacy and professionalism. When I raised this concern, Mimi tried to downplay the severity of the situation, claiming the email contained no personal information. Furthermore, her attempt to shift blame by alleging she sent the same message on March 16, 2023, was baseless, as she had actually sent it to the same wrong person. Her defensive and combative attitude when confronted with her mistake only further highlighted her lack of accountability and customer service skills. She proceeded to hang up on me when I pointed out her mistake and refused to take my calls subsequent to that. Mimi Montgomery's unprofessionalism, incompetence, and poor communication skills are utterly unacceptable. Her actions have not only caused us immense stress and frustration but have also jeopardized our trust in Vacations to Go as a whole. It is clear that Mimi is ill-suited for her role and does not possess the necessary qualities to provide quality service to customers. I strongly advise anyone considering Vacations to Go to steer clear of Mimi Montgomery. Her actions reflect poorly on the company, and she has demonstrated a complete disregard for customer satisfaction and basic professionalism. Vacations to Go needs to address these serious issues and ensure that their employees are capable and accountable. In conclusion, my experience with Mimi Montgomery at Vacations to Go was an absolute nightmare. I urge others to seek out alternative travel agents who prioritize customer service and professionalism.

“Booked several cruises and Never an issue!”

I have booked at least 3 cruises with vacationstogo.com and have always gotten additional onboard credit, and prices at least as good as posted on the cruise site, if not less than. Once you book, you get an email right away which has a link to the cruise line info for your cruise. If I needed something changed after initial deposit I've had no issues reaching my specific agent or another agent to help. Last two cruises booked were group trips where each a member called and booked with the agent without issue. I've even gotten phone call reminders about the upcoming cruise. Attached pic from email for last cruise taken.

“Unprofessional”

I was trying to book a cruise and they said that I went on one 10 years ago and they had a problem with me over a credit and I could not book. When I asked what it was about, they said I'd represented myself incorrectly as they travel agent, first of all, I'm not a travel agent so they have me mixed up with somebody and I paid full price for my cruise. I didn't expect 10 years later to be insulted by a bunch of kids.

Vacations to Go Cruise Reviews: What Cruisers Really Think

J. Souza

Cruise travelers are always looking for ways to save money.  After all, the more you save the more cruises you can take.

With Vacations to Go advertising lower rates and all kinds of perks, the company has a strong advertising presence.  Most of you have probably heard of them.

But what’s the catch?  Is there one?  Is there a downside to the “cruise deals” found on Vacations to Go?

Carnival and Royal Caribbean ship in Cozumel cruise port

You can usually get some added perks like onboard credit thrown in, but what other factors do you need to watch out for?

In this article we’ll weigh the potential pros and cons that have been brought up by customers who have left reviews on Consumer Affairs .

I book almost all my cruises directly through the cruise line’s website.  I also use cruise search engines to find deals, but for the booking process, I just enjoy the direct method.

But there are enough people using Vacations to Go to make me do a deeper dive into the experiences people had who used the service.

Founded in 1984, Vacations To Go is a travel agency specializing in discounted cruises. They advertise themselves as offering last-minute deals on unsold cabins negotiated with major cruise lines.

The website is famous for these last-minute deals through their “90-Day Ticker” and has been a staple of the company for years.

With 273 verified reviews on Consumer Affairs alone, Vacations to Go has been used by quite a few cruisers in the past.

However, those reviews paint a mixed picture.

With an average rating of 1.4 stars out of 5 on the consumer advocate website, I examined recent feedback within the last year, so only the most recent experiences were considered.

In the reviews and comments many mentioned potential advantages like finding discounted fares and the convenience of a “bundled booking process”.

But there were also some common issues brought up, including misleading pricing, booking hassles, and concerns about customer support.

Pricing and Advertising

MSC, Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas and Carnival Celebration docked in Costa Maya

Some reviewers on Consumer Affairs have been disappointed with the pricing advertised by Vacations to Go.

A commenter from New York noted, “One example is I looked at Royal Caribbean for a suite. V2G advertised $2,679 say I save 48%, but when I checked RCCL website for the exact same cruise, date, and room, they are giving me the exact same price.”

Contrary to common belief, travel agents and discount travel websites can’t really offer cheaper pricing on cruises – not technically anyway.

Sometimes they can offer onboard credit or other perks, but the price is pretty much the same anywhere you look –unless one site is trying to squeeze out a little more revenue.

Another reviewer shared, “Prices advertised on their website are not what is quoted when you reach an agent. The price quoted to me was astronomically higher than the website.”

This could also be due to the “hidden fees” that many booking websites don’t show until you are on the checkout page.  Things like port fees, taxes, and single supplement fees can definitely inflate the final cost.

Thanks to a new California law, more transparent pricing will be seen across the web, as cruise lines will include some of these hidden fees in the advertised price.

This issue was a recurring theme in the reviews. One cruiser from Florida who was looking to book a Windstar cruise mentioned, “As soon as I paid in full the website is now advertising 6000 for a single. That’s 5000 less! I wrote and asked them if they would honour this rate and was told it’s too late as I’ve paid in full already. ”

Booking Issues

Several users have faced challenges during the booking process. A reviewer from Texas shared an experience about trying to get a group rate but never hearing back:

“He called me the next day. I reiterate what we needed and he says, ‘I’ll call you back in ten minutes.’ It’s been a day and a half and no call from Curtis S. He also said there was only double occupancy rooms left and I have to get extra rooms. I called Royal Caribbean directly and booked our cruise.”

One user from Oregon noted an issue with how the company bundles different transportation needs saying,

“When booking a cruise there are often other needs…. Transportation, connections, coordination, hotels, etc., the things travel agents do. VTG does not offer these services and once you use them to book the cruise, travel agents aren’t anxious to provide you the other associated services.”

Many of the booking issues mentioned in the reviews pertained to how certain charges were communicated – or not communicated in some cases.

Customer Support

Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas and Vision of the Seas Cococay

A California customer who had been using the website for over 20 years mentioned, “The last 5 years have not been so good. Most recently I have been trying to get a refund of a deposit I made to be on a waiting list back in 2021 with American Queen Voyages. Vacations to go calls and gets an update for me each time I call but say there is nothing more they can do.”

An additional complaint came from a user who tried to correct a mistake, “They will not send you the packet to review before purchase. Booked the wrong cruise. Spent hours on the phone almost immediately trying to get it switched. Nope. No help from this company. In fact, at one point Princess changed it for us and V2Go changed it right back.”

While some liked the convenience of using the company’s travel agents to handle issues that came up, using a middleman can sometimes lead to complications.

A user on Reddit mentioned being very happy with handling these issues, however, saying,

“I’ve also found it much easier to work with a travel agent when sailings are changing as much as they are now, vs. needing to go through the line itself. For example, when my last sailing was cancelled, I decided to lift and shift. All it took was a couple minutes on the phone with the agent telling them which new date I wanted, and then they did the rest of the work.”

Problems with shore excursions were also commonly reported.

A reviewer from Missouri said, “When we got off the cruise, we had to walk a long 25 minutes to reach the taxi service, and that’s when we found out we were late and the bus had left us. We were told that the tour started 30 mins after the ship got to the port. Nothing was mentioned in the email or the ticket about a specific time or a specific place”.

Another reviewer from Colorado added that the excursions booked through Vacations to Go were not seamlessly integrated with the cruise line.

A Florida user echoed these sentiments saying, “If you do decide to book through them, I would strongly advise against it.”

Positive Experiences

cruise ships in portmiami, need for cruise travel insurance

Despite the negative reviews, a few customers reported positive experiences.

One customer from Florida noted, “Thank you, Vacations to Go, for investigating my issue and taking corrective action. You made it right, and that means a lot.”

Another reviewer appreciated the follow-up, stating, “We’re so glad that Princess was willing to make an exception and allowed us to switch to a sailing that included Glacier Bay.”

A customer from Washington shared a positive experience after some initial troubles, “Happy that Vacations to Go took me seriously, refunded my money for the horrible hotel booking, and apologized in full. Thanks to Robin, Andrea, and Michelle for taking care of this minor but important (to me) detail!”

Final Thoughts

While Vacations to Go has been a great service for some, there are enough one-star reviews to make some potential cruisers wonder if they should book a cruise through the company.

As one commenter summarized, “Just do your homework before you book with Vacations to Go. Compare with the cruise line and maybe other websites before you decide.”

I should note that Vacations to Go was very good at responding to reviews and comments made on the Consumer Affair website and seemed to make attempts to look up booking numbers to verify issues some cruisers had.

There was even one comment from a user that mentioned how the company had made things right:

“Happy that Vacations to Go took me seriously, refunded my $ for the horrible hotel booking and apologized in full. Thanks to Robin, Andrea and Michelle for taking care of this minor but important (to me) detail! Very much appreciated by both myself and my wife. Thank You!”

London was so helpful booking our first cruise, got us a great deal, and was very upfront about the cost. London went above and beyond in helping to work out all the details! I will use them again and highly recommend!

Customer service is just bad!! So many e-mails, finally after over a week I received a partial refund. Talked to upper management , Alan he was very apologetic with no results. I will never use this company again. What a way to support your customers! Without us, you have no business or job.

Cynthia, we’re very sorry for the disappointment you experienced with your shore excursions, and for the difficulty you encountered in receiving the refunds from our third-party excursion provider, Shore Excursions Group (SEG). We see that you have received two of the refunds from SEG. One of our managers has reached out to you to confirm the address for the refund check for the third shore excursion. We’re sorry again for the issues you encountered, and we hope that you’ll reconsider giving us the opportunity to be of service in the future.

Beware! NEVER BOOK EXCURSIONS IN ADVANCE WITH THIS COMPANY. It's nestled in the small print. The individual business can deny you access to their excursion and NOT refund your money. Even if you have insurance. Our Juneau, Alaska tour apparently booked up and we didn't get in. Nobody told us. Luckily, we had internet access and I discovered our itinerary had changed. I then saw that our money had been refunded. What happened on the Skagway Southeast Tours excursion is shocking to me. Getting on the bus to leave, the manager claims he was called a name and threw us off. Having never said a word to him, I naturally pleaded my case which only escalated matters. I've since learned that this is a well oiled scam that they've run several times and there's absolutely nothing can be done about it. I guess I'm naive because I had no idea people still got away with small town shenanigans things like this. I'm still stunned how easily we were taken advantage of. Even with a couple dozen witnesses, we really have no leg to stand on. We took out VTG insurance, but the tour company denies everything (of course), so we don't qualify for a refund. Again, they reserve the right to deny you your pre-paid tour and not refund your money. Why would I make all this up? We wanted that tour. We've been two weeks pleading our case to VTG in hopes of some restitution, their representative Violet, now informs us they will not refund anything or do anything for us. While we've been very fortunate, I guess eventually everyone gets taken advantage of in this life. There's bad folks everywhere. The disappointing part is that vacations to go accepts whatever this guy tells them, thus turning their back on us. Which calls us a liar. I'm sorry to run on with this. Go read my reviews and you'll see I don't cry wolf. I try to be neutral and I don't look to get refunded. I operate in good faith. My advice would be to pick and choose your excursions on the dock as you leave the ship each day and avoid this company, altogether. Travel safe, my friends! 08/23

Sep 5, 2023

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Steven. We're very sorry you had such a negative experience on your excursion. We never want stress or disappointment to be a part of any of our customers' vacation plans. Your excursions were booked through Shore Excursions Group (SEG), a third-party excursion provider that we have partnered with in order to give our customers excursion options beyond what the cruise line offers. We see that you've spoken with a couple of our managers who have been working closely with SEG to gather the details of the alleged events. Please know that the decision to offer a refund or compensation of any kind lies solely with SEG, not Vacations To Go. The excursion insurance offered by SEG covers customers in case they cannot attend the cruise due to transportation issues, sickness or medical issues, and if they are unable to disembark the ship due to immigration restrictions. In addition to that, they offer refunds if the ship misses the port of call, arrives late or the tour conductor is unable to conduct the tour. I’m afraid SEG does not consider situations such as what you’ve described to be a covered scenario. Please know that Vacations To Go has made every attempt to influence the situation in your favor, but ultimately SEG decided against providing a refund for your tour. We’re truly sorry again for the frustration and disappointment this caused, and will be sure to share your feedback with SEG directly.

We traveled to Mexico on a Carnival Cruise. Between my mom, daughter and me we booked three excursions (total of five tickets). My first one was canceled. Luckily someone I was traveling with had access to email and was notified the day before. The second day my mom's was canceled but no one told her, not through email or anything else. She was sitting around waiting for her tour when she found out and ultimately put with another tour that was leaving at the same time that was very boring, didn't serve food like the other and since she was anticipating a local meal, was hungry the entire time. The third day, all three of us went together to an animal sanctuary (my daughter is 3) and it was not as advertised. It was much further from the ship, the shuttle picked up another group for a different excursion on the way which was clearly outside of the way to our excursion, did not have many animals and we had to hire our own taxi to get us back to the ship in time to leave Mexico since their shuttle wasn't going to get us back in time. I 100% will never book with anyone other than the ship ever again so I can ensure I am notified when something is canceled and my family and I can be guaranteed to get back on the ship before it leaves. If you book through the ship, they will not leave without you. They also had my daughter's name spelled wrong on her ship ticket and it was a real pain to get it changed.

Aug 13, 2024

Kaytee, thank you for sharing your experience with these shore excursions. We’re very sorry to hear that two of your excursions were cancelled last minute, and how disappointed you were with the third excursion. We also apologize for the delay in correcting the spelling of your daughter’s name. We see that your mother was able to speak with one of our managers, who contacted the third-party shore excursion provider, Shore Excursions Group (SEG), to request a refund. SEG advised that although your mother had accepted to participate in the new tour, they would make an exception for a full refund. We apologize again for your disappointment and would be happy to assist you with booking shore excursions directly through the cruise line in the future. We appreciate your business and hope to be of service with any other travel plans.

We booked 2 balcony cabins on Holland America Greek cruise for May 14. My husband's Greek sisters in their 80s were denied boarding because they had official Greek travel cards. I had an email from their corporate office that Vacations to go sent on to me that they would accept them but at the ship they refused them because the back of the card was written in Greek and not English. The cruise went to 4 stops in Greece and 1 stop in Turkey. Turkey accepts these Greek travel cards. We had to find a way to fly them back home to Thessaloniki from Athens that day we arrived. It was all a nightmare. They were devastated. Now neither our travel agency [Vacations to go] nor the cruise company answers are request for a refund. A very poor experience. If they had told us we could have corrected that in a week prior but they never said the back of their cards must be in English. My emails are ignored.

Jun 19, 2024

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, Linda. We're very sorry that your husband's sisters were denied boarding. We can certainly understand, and apologize for, the disappointment this caused after months of planning a family cruise together. As a US travel agency, we do not typically advise on documentation requirements for citizens of countries other than the United States and Canada. However, per your request, our management team contacted Holland America on your behalf after several attempts to verify documentation requirements with them directly went unanswered. Holland America's response, which was forwarded to you, read "any information we provide is for informative purposes; guests should verify independently with each country directly or their preferred travel professional or visa service provider. The ship has advised guests will be permitted to board the with just national id card." It also later stated "Each country has its own entry requirements, and guests are personally responsible to have the necessary documents when boarding." Lastly, "failure to present required travel documents and visas at cruise check-in may result in denial of boarding with no refund." We're truly sorry if additional steps to confirm documentation requirements were not made, or if you were provided inaccurate or conflicting information from the cruise line. One of our managers will contact Holland America again to see what options may exist, if any. That said, please know that all decisions concerning compensation and reimbursement are made entirely by Holland America, not Vacations To Go, and we cannot guarantee that an exception will be made. We apologize again for the disappointment. Someone from our office will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

Incompetence and Unprofessionalism: A Disastrous Experience with Mimi Montgomery at Vacations to Go TLDR: Horrible experience... Run, don't walk, away from Mimi Montgomery & Vacations to Go. During the booking process, Mimi assured us that she would help us change our flights to more desirable times if we were dissatisfied with the ones assigned (given she was "unable to provide the times to us in advance of booking").

Jul 14, 2023

Jeremy, we're truly sorry for the frustration and disappointment this has caused you and your family. We understand that vacation planning should be an enjoyable experience and we know this has fallen far short of that. We're glad we were able to find a more acceptable airfare for your family, and absorb the change fees to finalize those. We're very sorry that Mimi emailed the passenger names to someone outside of your traveling party. We understand the undue stress this caused, and apologize again for any inappropriate interaction that took place between you and your agent. We regret that the gesture of goodwill we offered was not found suitable or acceptable. We have assigned your reservation to one of our managers who will be happy to assist you moving forward should you need additional assistance. We hope that despite the negative experience you've had thus far, you and your family are able to enjoy a wonderful trip together.

All of the recent yelps in 2023 for Vacations to Go are true. one star for the most part. I have been a customer for more than 5 years. I book 2 to 4 high prices suites per year with Vacations to Go. Vacations to Go receives complaints (directly Outside of Yelp) and does nothing to notify Celebrity, Seabourn or Oceania of their cost cutting moves and their failure to communicate these cost cutting moves to their customers before paying. It would have been easy for Vacations to Go to say " we are booking you a Magic Carpet Suite and your butler will be shared with 60 other ROOMS" Yes 60 other rooms...one butler! If that was communicated the cruise would never have been booked. Vacations to Go is an agent of the cruise line companys. They are not an agent for his high paying customers.....or any of their customers for that matter. When Vacations to Go is made aware of policy changes, they need to communicate these to the customer BEFORE making the sale. Never was Mr Fox asked to change policies. Never did Vacations to Go act as an Agent and support their long term suite purchasing customer and be an advocate for their customer Vacations to Go is too busy receiving commissions from the Cruise Line than to assist their customers In all of the other reviews, Shannon E. (the business manager) never communicates what Vacations to Go ever did to assist her customers. Shannon E. misrepresents the facts. William Earley

Bill, we're sorry that you feel unsupported after your most recent cruise experience. We understand that your expectations of your Celebrity suite experience were based off previous cruises with them and other luxury lines we partner with. We're disappointed to learn that the cruise line chose to change how they serve their suite guests, the number of rooms assigned to each butler and the included amenities for each suite. You've written multiple emails to your travel counselor and Alan Fox, during and after your cruise, and Alan has responded to you in a timely fashion. Though you have requested that he step in and influence Celebrity to change their policies, I'm afraid he is unable to do so with matters such as these. We're sorry you feel that means he is unwilling to support his customers. Our hope is that through the many cruises you've booked with Vacations To Go in the past, we've shown how important our customers are to us and our willingness to advocate on their behalf when we're in a position to do so. We value your previous loyal business, and regret your decision to take your business elsewhere. We're sorry we were unable to influence change on your behalf and wish you all the best.

Used to be a great company, not anymore. They have young travel agents who want a quick sale and then don't come through for you. They don't go the extra mile. No wonder there are so many bad reviews here. After messing up my booking I couldn't get my money back in a timely manner but they sure were able to take it quickly. Note to management: stop leaving apologies here and take action. You have way too many bad reviews on this site and that is not going to change until you start making hiring/training changes.

Feb 26, 2024

We're sorry for the negative impression your booking experience left, P.B. So that we may research the details of your reservation, please message us privately with your reservation number. Your feedback is important to us, and we're happy to look into this further, but I'm afraid we cannot locate your booking with your initials only. In the wake of COVID, we hired rapidly to keep up with the travel industry bounce-back. It's now stronger than ever! That said, we still have hundreds of agents that have been with Vacations To Go for more than 10, 15 or 20 years. We apologize again, and look forward to hearing from you.

We made a reservation for a cruise and made a down payment. To make the final payment you cannot use the web site. You have to call the listing agent at Vacations to Go. I called several times and left a message for the agent and never got a response. I then called and got someone on the line who said that my agent was no longer with the company and assigned me a new agent. After calling and emailing I finally got confirmation for my final payment. It is insane that the customer cannot pay on the web site. I will never use Vacations to Go again.

Jan 25, 2024

Thank you for writing, Ben. I'm sorry we don't offer the option to book or make payments online. We find that many of our customers prefer to speak to a live person to answer all their questions and sort out the many details that come with traveling. When a travel counselor is no longer employed with our company, their voicemail and email away message are changed to reflect that information. We also assign all active reservations or quotes to a new agent, who contacts the guest to introduce themselves and provide their contact information. I apologize if you did not receive any of this new information, and for any negative impression it may have caused. As reflected in all email signatures and voicemails, any time you cannot reach your travel counselor, dial 0 for a team of Customer Care Specialists waiting to assist you immediately. We're sorry again for the frustration and inconvenience this caused. We hope you have a wonderful time on your cruise, and that we'll have the opportunity to serve you in the future.

I had heard so much and had such good hopes about vacations to Go that I decided to give them a try. I booked a cruise that, at the time, I thought was a decent deal, and then with less than a week's time, I saw the same Cruise posted that competitors except they were paying gratuity. I expected that Vacations to Go would honor their advertisement to match the deal since it was relatively close (within a week) to my booking date. Not several months later and which I wouldn't expect them to match prices.. Please judge wisely, as I made a mistake and should have gone with United Cruises, which I have used before, and they were willing to help and work with their customers. Stay away and only if it is a very last resort, Use vacations to Go. They took a star away, and they keep making excuses that are getting worse.

Feb 12, 2024

Hi Bob, I'm sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your Vacations To Go experience. Our Best Price Guarantee only applies at the time of booking, not after your cruise has been purchased. Just like airlines, cruise lines change their prices and promotions often, and may do so between the time you book and the time you sail. If a better price or promotion is available through the cruise line, we will always ask them if they will allow an adjustment to your reservation. It is at the cruise line's discretion, not Vacations To Go. Your travel counselor and the manager you spoke with have both verified that you have the best available rate and promotion currently offered by the cruise line. We’re sorry again that we were unable to match the exclusive offer from United Airlines’ Cruise Department. We hope that you have a great time on your cruise, and that we will have the chance to regain your business in the future.

There's so much to see and do in Italy that it can feel a bit overwhelming to plan a trip that makes the most of the country's fabled history, art, architecture and cuisine – not to mention its 55-plus UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Guided tours are an efficient, hassle-free way to explore the country's top destinations and attractions . These Italy tours – considered the best by travelers and experts alike – vary by region, focus and method of transportation, but they all have one thing in common: informed guides ready to help you better appreciate your time in this beautiful European country.   While there are plenty of tours across Italy's most popular cities that last a few hours or an entire day, some travelers may be interested in multiday tours that visit several destinations or points of interest. Below are some of the top multiday tours in Italy.

Gray Line I Love Rome – 3 Day Excursion to Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento & Capri

Price: From 645 euros (about $700) Duration: 3 days

If you're interested in exploring some of the best day trips from Rome , but don't want to deal with the hassle of figuring out your own transportation or accommodations, this three-day tour may be for you.

After departing from Rome, your first stop is Naples , where you'll spend an afternoon exploring the UNESCO archaeological site of Pompeii with a guide. From there, it's on to Sorrento for the night. The next morning, you'll either have free time to explore Sorrento (if you've booked the tour between November and March – the low season) or enjoy a boat ride to Capri 's famous Blue Grotto (during peak season). On the third day, you'll head back to Rome. Hotel accommodations are included in the cost of the tour, as are ferry tickets to Capri and skip-the-line tickets to Pompeii, but most food and beverages are not.

A few tourgoers describe the pace of the tour as rushed, but most enjoy the historical commentary provided by the guide throughout the journey and are particularly impressed with the hotel accommodations in Sorrento.

Best Italy Tours

Gray Line - I Love Rome – UNESCO Jewels: Best of Italy - Rome, Florence, Venice in 5 days

Price: From $977 Duration: 5 days

After departing from Rome, you'll stop in the medieval town of Assisi, the city of Siena – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – Florence , Bologna and Venice . The tour includes hotel accommodations for all four nights, skip-the-line entrance tickets to select attractions featured on the tour, a handful of guided experiences and some meals.

Travelers applaud the tour guides and drivers for their professionalism and organization and call out the visit to Montepulciano (in Tuscany's wine region ) as a highlight. For many reviewers, the optional activities, such as the tour to Pisa, are worth the additional cost.

Sicily Activities – Tour of Sicily: Highlights

Price: From 1995 euros (about $2,168) Duration: 8 days

Groups are limited to just eight travelers on this eight-day tour of Sicily 's top cities and sights. You'll travel by Mercedes minivan and spend three nights in Taormina, two nights in Syracuse and two nights in Palermo (at four-star hotels chosen by the company). Highlights include a food and wine tour in Taormina, a guided hike up Mount Etna, and walking tours in Taormina, Noto, Syracuse and Palermo, among other activities. Along with the incredible views, tourgoers will also get a chance to participate in the company's commitment to responsible travel through its "G for Good Moment." You'll spend one night in a hotel in Naples; for the rest of the trip, your home base will be a renovated 16th-century former monastery that's tucked into the hills of the small village of Furore. The accommodations are a particular highlight for some recent travelers, who appreciated not having to pack up their suitcases every few days to move to a new hotel, and say it delivered on the tour's "living like a local" premise. What's more, seven breakfasts and six "farmhouse" dinners prepared by the family who run the agriturismo (guesthouse) are included in the cost of the tour. Other reviewers were most impressed with the guide, who they describe as knowledgeable and organized. Groups are restricted to 16 participants – another highlight for recent tourgoers.

Date of experience : May 02, 2024

Date of experience : July 13, 2022

Date of experience : November 17, 2022
