Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

A domain name is an address for a website that appears in the browser bar. For example, our domain name is 'website .travel ’. There are two parts to every domain: the main name (i.e. ‘website’) and the extension (i.e. ‘.travel’). No two websites can have the same domain name because it is unique to you.

Every site is hosted on an internet web server, or a “host”. Computers access these hosts using an IP – a string of numbers like 94.54.349.43 – but that’s not very memorable for human beings.

A .travel Name converts an IP address to a more memorable, text-based version so that people don’t need to punch in a huge string of numbers to find the websites they want. This is all done through the Domain Name System – more commonly known as DNS.

Think of your domains like web addresses – the place people will find you online.

An extension is the ending of a Domain Name. Extensions are commonly referred to as a TLD (Top-Level Domain), suffix, or domain root.

There are many types of TLDs such as ccTLDs, which are country code specific, like .uk for the UK, and gTLDs, which are new generic extensions such as .website.

Some of the most popular TLDs include .com , .org , .net and .biz.

Many businesses and brands register their name with multiple extensions to protect their online identity, increase visibility and attract more visitors to their website.

Some of the most popular extension types are Geographic and International domains.

Geographic TLDs are perfect for local businesses and organizations. They tell people in which city or region a shop, a restaurant or an agency is located. Extensions like .london , .vegas , .berlin and .tokyo are a great choice for attracting local customers.

International TLDs are the ideal choice for brands looking to promote their local presence and connect with customers from a specific country. Depending on which market or country you wish to target, you can go with an established international extension like .de , .es , .it or with the new .uk or .global.

You can check the availability of a domain name by using the search function displayed on this page or on our domains page . Simply enter your ideal name and you’ll be given a list of relevant options for you to purchase.

It’s incredibly easy to register your own .travel domain name. Simply follow the steps outlined below to get started:

  • Enter your ideal .travel web address into our search tool
  • Find the most suitable option from our list of suggestions
  • Add it to your basket and continue to the checkout process

In order to buy .travel domain names, you’ll need to provide your name, address and a few other contact details. It’s crucial that the information you share is up-to-date and valid in case of a dispute or other situations where you need to show proof of ownership.

We will also need your payment details so we can process your .travel registration.

We’ve got a huge selection!

As the UK’s #1 domain name provider, every new extension that is released is also available to be bought on Hosting.co.uk. From the traditional .com , .co.uk , .net , .org to the new .uk , .london , .ninja , .xyz , we have it all.

Use our domain search to see which extensions are available for your desired name.

Although there’s no wrong answer, here are a few important items to consider when deciding on your perfect .travel web address:

  • - Keep it short, simple, and memorable (around 10 characters long)
  • - Try to feature your business name or the services you offer
  • - Make sure it’s easy to spell and pronounce Don’t include special characters or punctuation (i.e. $ ! &)
  • - Select a relevant extension (i.e. .UK if you’re a British business)

Of course! In fact, we recommend that you buy multiple extensions (i.e. co.uk , .org , .com ) so that no-one else can, helping to protect your business from any competitors.

Whether you wish to purchase several domains at the same time or separately, our tools allow you to do either. Best of all, they can all be easily managed from our intuitive Control Panel.

Certainly – you can cancel your .travel domain any time you choose.

Simply log into your Control Panel, go to the Domain Names section, click Manage Auto Renewal and choose the name you wish to cancel/allow to expire.

Click "Confirm" to confirm the name you have chosen, and you will also see the date they are due to expire.

.travel domain names are available for 1 year -1 year.

The domain registration time frame for .travel during general availability is 5-10 days.

Domain Names must:

  • have a minimum of 3 characters and a maximum of 63 characters characters;
  • begin with a letter or a number and end with a letter or a number;
  • use the English character set and may contain letters (i.e., a-z, A-Z),numbers (i.e. 0-9) and dashes (-) or a combination of these;
  • neither begin with, nor end with a dash;
  • not contain a dash in the third and fourth positions (e.g. www.ab- -cd.travel); and
  • not include a space (e.g. www.ab cd.travel).

Hosting.co.uk offers hosting and email service for .travel. You can order hosting , email service , and SSL certificates at checkout or you can contact sales .

Yes. You can activate Private Registration during the purchase of a new .travel domain. Select “domain privacy protection” when you are going to buy your .travel.

In accordance with ICANN, Generic Top Level Domains (gTLD) have a 40 day "Grace period" in which a domain name can be renewed without incurring an additional fee. Its important to note however that your domain will no longer resolve on the day it expires. Furthermore, there is usually a 30 day "Redemption Period" in which you can renew your domain name. This may differ for each domain extension, so contact support to learn more about your .travel grace period.

If you want to use your domain name for a branded or personalised email address such as [email protected] , you will need a Hosting.co.uk mailbox to enable you to send and receive emails. You can get free mailboxes when you sign up for any of our hosting plans .

When you use the Hosting.co.uk mailbox, you have three options to retrieve your email:

Hosting.co.uk Webmail – This option allows you to access the emails sent to your new customised address, no matter where you are.

Email Client – With this option, you can receive email to your PC or laptop through an email client of your choice such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Eudora or Apple Mail.

Mobile Device – You can easily set up Hosting.co.uk mailboxes to your mobile device, giving you access to your email from anywhere with an internet connection

It is also possible to set up a personalised or branded email address that simply forwards email to an existing inbox you may already have elsewhere such as Gmail, Yahoo or similar. This way, you can continue using your existing email address and receive your emails through your branded domain name. To send from your personalised address you will need an email mailbox account.

It’s really easy to transfer any existing domains you might have over to us. The first thing you’ll need to do is contact your current provider and make sure they are OK with the transfer. Once you get the thumbs up from them, you can head to your control panel and carry out the transfer straight from there.

There are slightly different transfer procedures which depend on the type of extension you’re transferring and where you’re moving it from, but don’t worry, we have step-by-step guides for all of them. We also offer free transfers on selected domains.

How to Choose the Right Domain Name for Travel Business

Choosing the right domain name can be challenging. However, here are a couple of tips to help you choose the right name;

Brainstorm the names : Make a list of potential names, then narrow it down to 3 to 5. Show them to a few business-savvy friends, or create a poll on your Facebook page to see what your friends prefer. However, make sure the name you choose is easy to type, spell and remember, as difficult names are not anyone’s favorite.

Keep your URL relevant to your industry : The travel market is very competitive, and most prospective passengers begin their research online. Also, using a tourism-related domain rather than a generic one can help you stand out amid other online listings.

EDR Server: Open DNS and Response show differing domain names when connecting to the same IP

By cb_support posted jun 04, 2019 03:48 pm, environment.

  • EDR Server: 6.X and higher
  • Open DNS: All Versions
  • Follow security best practices to avoid connections to malicious domains.
  • Compare IP addresses and timestamps between Open DNS and Response to help identify the malicious behavior.

Additional Notes

  • Passive DNS replication is a technology which constructs zone replicas without cooperation from zone administrators, based on captured name server responses. Because of this, a connection to an IP address may show a domain name of "malicious.example". A different application or host using the same IP may see a different domain name such as "malicious.different.example".
