Over the years I can only imagine how many hundreds of makeup setting sprays that I have tried. The story is almost always the same- they set your makeup well in terms of making everything look melted together. But, it is rare to find a spray that actually extends wear time, especially at the drugstore. In doing this elf setting spray review I am testing their entire current lineup of sprays on my combination skin. The results are nothing short of shocking! For the most part, elf provides sprays that actually extend makeup wear time! As I go through each spray I will be giving you the full details and evaluating them in terms of the mist/nozzle and setting and staying power. A lot of people are curious about the ingredients in elf setting spray, so I have those listed, too. Time to figure out which elf setting spray is the best!

Which elf Setting Spray Is the Best?

Elf stay all day blue light micro-setting mist.

First in this elf setting spray review is the elf Stay All Day Blue Light Micro-Setting Mist . I am going to be directly comparing this one to the Stay All Night Micro-Fine Setting Mist for good reason.

This spray has a fine mist, as do all of them in this style of packaging. There is a ball in the bottom to facilitate with shaking the product well. I have not heard complaints of the product clogging the spray nozzle, but I presume that is possible since it needs a ball to properly shake.

This spray does provide a matte finish and it sets the skin perfectly well. It absolutely extends the wear time of makeup! Even better, it does not have a smell. As far as blocking blue light goes, that is hard to tell. It will not stop your normal oil production, nor will it get worse. Using this spray in conjunction with proper skincare and primer is golden! Be sure to check out my elf primers for combo skin review . In my opinion, this is superior to Stay All Night. They both perform the same, but I would rather not have the yucky smell.

Claims : This spray should set makeup and refresh it during the day. Glucosylrutin reduces blue light emittance. The formula is lightweight for use on all skin types to provide a matte, shine-free finish. No touch-ups should be needed.

Performance : Sets and extends the wear of makeup effectively.

elf Stay All Night Micro-Fine Setting Mist

Second is the elf Stay All Night Micro-Fine Setting Mist . This one has several bad reviews citing that the spray nozzle gets clogged after a few uses. It does feature a ball, but supposedly elf has fixed this issue. While mine has not yet clogged, you can always try running it under warm water.

Just like the blue light spray, it does set your makeup well with a matte finish, and it extends the wear time of makeup. What I cannot get over is the awful smell that is hard to describe. Sadly, the smell lasts all day during wear and it is annoying. I would go for the blue light spray because the results are exactly the same, sans the smell.

Claims : This spray should provide up to 16 hours of wear with a lightweight formula. No touch-ups should be needed, and it also nourishes the skin.

Rating : Docking 1 star for the smell.

elf Dewy Coconut Setting Mist

Third is the elf Dewy Coconut Setting Mist . It does give you a subtle fresh and healthy glow without the use of shimmers or glitters. There is no shaker ball. As we know by now with these round bottles, the mist is fine and the spray successfully sets makeup. It is not surprising at the end of the day I have more shine going on with this dewy spray than with the others. Part is my oils coming through, part is the spray. I see a bit more wear and tear at the end of the day, but this honestly looks pretty good for a dewy mist! We all know that illuminating products have a shorter wear time by nature, but this spray does a good job of being dewy and long lasting.

Claims : This should hydrate and condition the skin for a long-lasting finish. It can also refresh your makeup.

Ingredients : Water (Aqua), Polyurethane-35, Butylene Glycol, Dipropylene Glycol, Peg/Ppg-17/6 Copolymer, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Water, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Xanthan Gum, Ppg-26-Buteth-26, Disodium Edta, Fragrance (Parfum), Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol.

Performance : Sets and extends makeup wear time, but with a bit more wear and tear than the others.

elf does provide a comparison for all of the setting sprays in the cylinder bottle, which I have composed into a table, as seen below. They do not provide comparisons for the square black bottles.

elf Makeup Mist & Set

Fourth in this elf setting spray review is the elf Makeup Mist & Set . If my memory serves me correctly, this is the first ever setting spray that I used when I was just getting into makeup. I would not be surprised to hear it was the first at the drugstore, and it is the OG for sure. Do you remember this black packaging? This goes back to elf’s earlier days of the Essential line for $1 in the white packaging, and the Studio line for $3 in black. What a throwback!

In buying and trying this again so many years later, I am super impressed! This product does set your makeup effectively, and I am shocked to report it does extend wear time. I would say that it does not extend as well as Stay All Day or Stay All Night does, as I can see a bit more wear and tear. This is a nice daily option. I bet elf was really ahead of the times with this baby back in the day. Claims : This spray should hold your makeup in place all day. It should also revitalize, soothe, and hydrate the skin. It is for all skin types.

elf Matte Magic Mist & Set

Fifth is the elf Matte Magic Mist & Set . This absolutely gives a basic, matte finish that is not dry. Much like the OG Makeup Mist & Set, I believe that it does extend the wear time of makeup, but I can see a hint more wear and tear versus the Stay All Day or Stay All Night. It works for what it is worth!

Claims : This spray is lightweight and helps your makeup to last. The matte finish will control shine, while hydrating and soothing the skin.

Key Ingredients : Vitamin B to soothe and to hydrate, Vitamin E to nourish and to soften, and articum majus root for anti-inflammatory benefits.

Ingredients : Water (Aqua), Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Ampacrylates/Allyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Coceth-7, Ppg-1- Peg-9 Lauryl Glycol Ether, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Panthenol, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate (Ve), Butyleneglycol, Arctium Majus (Burdock) Root Extract, Zinc Sulfate, Biotin, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Acrylates Copolymer, Magnesium Carbonate.

elf Illuminating Mist & Set

Last in this elf setting spray review is the elf Illuminating Mist & Set . I find that this one does not give me an illuminated or radiant look. It might provide the slightest hint of a fine glitter on the skin, but my overall finish is matte. I still feel that it does extend the wear time of makeup, but I can see a hint more wear and tear versus the Stay All Day or Stay All Night.

Claims : This spray should provide a long-lasting, radiant finish for a glowing look.

The micro-fine mist leaves a healthy-looking dewy finish in its wake and we appreciated that it didn't feel wet or look greasy.

This setting spray isn't billed as waterproof, but it promises to lock in your makeup for up to 16 hours. And while it contains synthetic fragrance, which can be irritating for sensitive skin , we didn't find the scent to be overwhelming.

We should note that the nozzle works almost too well in that it's easy to overdo it with too much product. It leaves the skin feeling pretty wet after just a few spritzes, but it dried quickly and didn't disrupt our makeup. It feels cooling on the skin, has a nice coconutty-vanilla scent, and leaves a radiant, glowy finish behind.

If you prefer a matte finish, we recommend One/Size On 'Til Dawn. The lightweight formula sets makeup instantly, and though it created a minor tightening sensation on the skin, it wasn't uncomfortable. Beyoncé's makeup artist even recently shared that this is the setting spray she used on the Renaissance World tour—and it lasted through a rain storm in Washington D.C.

Once dry, it leaves the complexion looking smooth and crease-free with a soft-focus blurred effect that kept our makeup intact all day—even through splashes of water. And while this setting spray is mattifying, it didn't look flat or feel dry on the skin. It smells kind of perfume-y, which some people don't mind, but the added fragrance could be irritating.

Thanks to a hydrating blend of red algae, hyaluronic acid, and squalane, a few spritzes are all you need to plump up your skin and create a healthy glow.

We found that it felt totally weightless on the skin and worked to set makeup in place while creating a luminous finish. You don't have to worry about the mist being too aggressive or soaking your face, in fact, we wish it was a bit more powerful as it takes many sprays to evenly coat the face. While Tatcha doesn't describe this product as waterproof, it definitely passed our splash test. We just wish the bottle were a little bigger, considering the steep price point.

Milk's Hydro Grip Spray really impressed us. It felt cool on the face and dried quickly into a radiant finish. While the lightweight formula is very hydrating, it didn't feel overly wet or sticky.

Once dry, this skin-friendly setting spray promises to keep your makeup in place for up to 12 hours. A splash of water did result in some slight smudging, but almost nothing transferred when we patted our skin with a towel.

Calling it a "little rain jacket for [her] makeup," one tester said that everything stayed intact after giving her face a good splash. With that said, you can count on The POREfessional to make good on its promise of 16-hour wear.

This multipurpose mist can also be used to prep and hydrate your skin and refresh your face throughout the day. Though it had a slightly sticky feel, it smoothed the skin and left it looking refreshed. And while it's not billed as waterproof, it seemed to offer some moisture resistance and promises to help your makeup last for 12 hours.

One tester said that it melted her foundation into her face and left her with a "natural, glowy" complexion and smaller-looking pores. This all-star spray is also waterproof and transfer-resistant. Thanks to a blend of niacinamide (vitamin B3) and white water lily, it even helps soothe stressed skin.

We love that it dries quickly and doesn't have a heavy or sticky feel. Makeup didn't smudge, smear, or transfer, even when we splashed our faces with water while testing this one. While the formula contains synthetic fragrance which we don't prefer, especially for those with sensitive skin, we found the scent to be pleasant and non-irritating.

It dried quickly, leaving us with smooth makeup and soft-looking skin. And we'd be remiss not to talk about the mister—it works to evenly coat the face with just the right amount of product. Some setting sprays come out too aggressively, which can leave big droplets on your skin and ultimately ruin your makeup. We love that this one comes out evenly and we never have to worry about it messing up our makeup.

While it's not ideal for extending the wear of makeup, it does a great job of reducing a powdery finish and making the skin look and feel more hydrated.

What to Look for in a Setting Spray

• Claims: Not all setting sprays do the same thing. When you're shopping for one, keep in mind what you want to get out of using a setting spray and look for products that align. For example, if you have oily skin and you're hoping to reduce shine and extend the wear of your makeup, choose one with a matte finish that promises to lock in makeup for 12+ hours.
• Finish: Determine the finish you want to achieve, as well as your skin type . If you tend to get oily, a mattifying setting spray could help to counteract any shininess. If you have dry skin or you want to achieve a glow, one with a luminous finish is best for you.

After you’ve finished applying your makeup, give the bottle a generous shake, then hold it about six to eight inches from your face. With your eyes closed, spray on a light veil in a zig-zag motion. Allow it to dry for at least a minute.

You can apply setting spray on top of foundation, on top of a full face of makeup, or after each step (misting the face after eyeshadow, lipstick, and other product layers).

While setting spray isn't a necessity, it will amp up your makeup game and help your products last. Some setting sprays even add to your makeup, creating a dewy or matte finish and blurring imperfections that your foundation might have missed.

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland.
