As I understand it.

Travel passes are only refundable if returned to the issuing office before the first day of validity.

A partial refund of a Swiss Travel Pass/Swiss Travel Pass Flex is only possible under the following circumstances:

- in the event of illness or accident (on presentation of relevant supporting documentation)

- upon presentation for refund at the place where the journey is discontinued

- upon presentation of confirmation by a railway office

If lost or stolen, your travel pass will not be replaced or refunded.

Thank you Splodge for your response. This is the same information I got online, so is not very clear if i can cancel online through the website or not. thanks again.

Anyone who has canceled and got full refund? any idea?

I would post your question on the SBB community forum. You will get a definitive answer, possibly even from Roland one of the main contributors on the TA forum.

tripadvisor swiss travel pass

Don't pre purchase any tickets for mountain excursions, simply walk up to the ticket window and show them your STP and pay then. The big reason is weather, why spend all that money if the mountain is clouded over or raining.

I understand. I rely mostly on the weather app, maybe I’ll wait until the day before and see whether it’s better to buy on the spot or online.

Thanks a bunch. :)

tripadvisor swiss travel pass

Our dates are : 1st august to 10th august

We are 2 adults and 2 kids (10 years and 12 years old ).

Kindly guide us which travel pass should we buy for unlimited travel within trains and buses.

Which is the right website to buy this pass ?

5 replies to this topic

' class=

It is impossible to even comment on your request unless you can give a specific itinerary. For some things the Swiss travel pass is best. For any mountain trips the Half Fare card is better as a rule...

With either you will get a free Family card and your two children travel free with you wherever you go. This is important because otherwise they pay 50% fare everywhere.

The website is http://www.sbb.ch/en >Leisure and Holidays

Hello. Thank you for the reply.

We plan to visit juangfrou , Titlis , Pilatis , Rigis.

Also we would like to make day trips to other cities by train.

I understand the free pass allows unlimited bus and train rides and is the best value for money. Kindly guide me what kind of passes I should consider.

You will have to buy tickets as you go. Which is a very good thing where mountains are concerned. Just buy these at the station on the day of travel. Also - if you are going to the Jungfraujoch perhaps skip Mt Titlis . And if you go to Rigi, skip Pilatus . You do not have to go to everything on such a short trip. In Luzern - do visit the Transport Museum. (STP only gets you a discount on that anyway...). And make a day trip to Bern . Take the children to the Communications museum near the Helvetiaplatz and to the Bear Park. You can get to Bern in an hour from either Luzern or Interlaken and it is a perfect place for a rainy day because of the 6km of arcades in the historic centre.

In EVERY place stop in a the Tourist Offices to get maps, tips and to see if they offer walking tours. (Most do). You learn a lot from those and they aren't very expensive either.

Yep, these which Pass to buy questions are always impossible to answer. It all comes down to what you plan to do and how many train/boat/bus trips plan to make.

Just yesterday I purchased our two 15 Day Swiss Travel Passes for later this month even though we'll only be there for 10 days. Price wise it made more sense to buy the 15 day pass instead of the 8 day pass and then pay full price for the other 2 days. Yes, it gets confusing!

I think you could have bought an 8 day pass and then a 3 day one…

A four day travel pass is for four consecutive days. A four day travel pass flex is for four days but the don't have to be consecutive so if you're there for eight days, you can use the pass on any four of those days. I believe you also have the option to buy a discounted half fare card with the latter so that on the days you aren't using your flex pass you can buy tickets at half price. Without the half fare card the tickets bought on those days would be full price.

tripadvisor swiss travel pass

You can get this information on http://www.swisstravelsystem.com/en/tickets/swiss-travel-pass-flex.html

Cost of HFC IF bought in conjunction with the Flex is 60frs.

Thank you Casperjj. Your explanation certainly helps us understand the difference between these passes 🙏

Thanks again pore 🙏🙏

Thank you again Hambagahle! Sorry to ask what is HFC IF? Totally amateur with train travel anywhere. Really appreciate your explanation how to justify which pass we should be getting. Looks like a firmer travel itinerary will be needed. Thanks again! 🙏

Yes, Dym, the first thing you need to do before you decide on your pass, is to come up with a pretty concrete list of excursions and trains you want to take. List all of them.

To do this use the http://www.sbb.ch website. Put in the point of departure and arrival location. To calculate the P2P price. click the price/purchase (red box) and then pick in the Discount Box- no reduction. This will give you the Full amount of the P2P ticket.

Then add up all of the costs of your tickets.

Another possibility would be to buy consider some sort of Flexi pass, or to simply buy P2P tickets. We really don't know unless you were to precisely post exactly what you intend to do. So you really need to calculate the prices. Most of the time, I find the Half-fare card to be more economical- but again, you must do the math.

Thank you so much Marb E! It is so confusing for an amateur like me 😢 So roughly, our travel plan is:-

April 26-27 travel to Lucerne (Mt. Pilatus or Rigi)

April 28 to Lauterbrunnen

April 29-30-May 1 - Jungfraujoch , Grindelwald , Wengen , Mirren, Zermatt (not sure we can cover all)

May 2 - train to Basel

May 3 - flight to Copenhagen

Would you recommend that we just get the Swiss Pass Flex to give us more flexibility? It is overwhelming for my amateur status. Would appreciate any help from seasoned travelers.

Thank you in advance 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you Casperjj! Just planning which train pass to get is already so overwhelming! Thanks for your help. Can they make it any more confusing? 😩

  1. Swiss Travel Pass for Jungfrau?

The Swiss Travel Pass only covers public transport. It does not cover mountain railways. Many mountain railways will however give a reduction to holders of a Swiss Travel Pass.
