Amazing family holiday in Hurghada, Egypt

Our family had the most amazing experience at the TUI BLUE Crystal Bay Resort Hurghada, Egypt. A great, clean hotel with fantastic food, friendly staff and a relaxing pool area. Our TUI guide was highly knowledgeable, and went over and beyond helping us to make our holiday special. We went on two unforgettable experiences, snorkelling and scuba diving in the Red Sea - a must do when we're back in the future, as I'm sure we will. Thank you TUI, you've put a big smile on our faces. 🙂

Best Travel Agent

We have booked many holidays through TUI at Rushden Lakes. Every time is great, however, Claire Burdock is without doubt the best agent we have ever found in any company! Always extremely friendly, very knowledgeable and professional. Can't recommend highly enough

Terrific River Cruise

As a group of longtime friends, we decided it was time for a getaway cruise. We only popped in to get more information at the Tui store by Coventry rail station. Cheryl was so helpful, explaining everything and assuring us this was the holiday we were looking for. We even had a £300 reduction per booking for our next year's holiday. We booked immediately and are all very excited to be looking forward to our getaway next year. Thank you Cheryl for all your time and kindness.

Not disabled friendly company

Spent 2 hours trying to make our holiday with our disabled mother less stressful. The lovely lady tried her very best, but nothing was ‘received’ from Sunexpress. Even was transfered to them. Explained all information about mobility bike and battery sizes. Left at stansted, check in staff with no knowledge of what was needed. 45 minutes of embrassment, extra cost of leaving much need batteries behind. Completely ruined our holiday. Tui staff at hotel tried emailing to help, tui response very unhelpful. Would NOT recommend using if you have extra needs.

The team in the coventry arena branch were really helpful. We have booked a holiday there previously so we were confident with their customer service. They got the best deal possible and talked us through the excursions available. They are available to speak to at anytime to amend or add to your break. We would recommend a visit to the store to book your holiday.

Helpful lady in Camborne Branch Cornwall

We phoned the Camborne branch as we had seen a holiday on the TUI website. But we wanted to talk to a member of staff in your branch to confirm and book, we are an older couple and prefer that human contact. The lady on the telephone was very helpful, friendly etc: and setup the holiday with our extra requirements. So now waiting for our holiday hooray. No issues at the moment.

Dani, our Tui representative at Harrogate branch was expertly helpful and great to get on with. We had a particular room and date that we really wanted and she managed to get everything just right for us. Fantastic value too. We'll be booking with Tui, and Dani, again.

A minor change in flights caused 3 weeks of stress, telephone agents are completely useless, don't call back when they say they will, are incapable of problem solving. I eventually had to cancel and rebook just to get the correct price. Agent I spoke to last was rude and had a terrible attitude, actually sighed when I said I was going to cancel. Manager that I spoke to promised me a solution then phoned a week later saying he couldn't do it. Think I should have been offered some kind of compensation, instead tried to charge me extra!

Website really helpful but can't beat going into store

Website really helpful for research but still prefer going into High Street to speak to someone. Received really helpful and constructive advice, delayed our by four days and were able to book a better room.

Relaxing, Beautiful Lake Garda

Lake Garda was the perfect location and exactly the type of holiday we needed. The accommodation was spot on and thr people were very friendly/helpful. The pool was great and there were never too many people there which meant sunbeds wre always available. The poolside snack bar was exactly what we wanted and the daily happy hour was a nice bonus. Breakfast was plentiful, varied and fresh everyday. Evening meals were varied and felt authentic. Good range of drinks in the bar and reasonably priced. Flights and transfers were as expected and there were only very minor delays. This holiday was recommended and booked by Jo P at TUI kingston and we could not have asked for more from her! Based on her own experience of visiting the area previously, she seemed to know exactly what would suit us. With food included and travel in the middle of August, this holiday was extremely good value.

Absolutely awesome.

The ladies in the Camborne branch are amazing. We have booked all of our numerous holidays with them knowing that we are in safe hands. They always go above and beyond our expectations. Knowledgeable and helpful with a smile. We can highly recommend all of them.

Big shout out to the staff at the TUI…

Big shout out to the staff at the TUI branch in St Helier Jersey! Both Manager Hope and agent Lauren made booking our holiday to Malta fun! Both very informative and professional in all the process! Thank you!

Friendly, helpful service

Straightforward and simple. I called for a quote (as I had done a few other places). Deborah was fantastic, so friendly and very helpful. By the end of the call I was happy with the quote for Florida and Deborah was a big part of the deciding vote too. All questions and queries answered thoroughly and since making the booking I have had a couple more questions which I emailed to Deborah and I have always had prompt replies. Great service so far and I am already looking to make a booking for the following year.

The best UK tour holidays for 2024

Hassle free, well crafted and exclusive, tours are a brilliant way to discover a new destination in the UK

looking north, cairngorms, scotland

With well thought-out itineraries, UK escorted tours can also remove the stress of managing all the bookings and logistics, and give you an authentic overview of a new destination.

There are a few different ways to pick UK tour holidays. You can choose the perfect package by type, such as a history-focused trip or an astronomy break in Northumberland ; by celebrity expert ( hello Sarah Raven ); or by location, depending on where you have in mind to tick off your holiday bucket list.

We’ve rounded up the best escorted tours for 2024 by destination, so you can enjoy an area of the UK with a unique experience crafted by experts. Enjoy!

moored rowing boat on the norfolk broads

There’s nowhere quite like Norfolk for getting your nature fix. For starters, you get the beautiful waterways that make up the famous Broads, where historic windmills stand proudly among acres of unbridled countryside, and boats glide serenely up and down navigable networks of rivers, hopping between pretty little towns and riverside restaurants.

Then, by the coast, fresh-air days spent on expansive, weather-flicked beaches result in rosy cheeks and sandy toes, while ancient woodland and marshlands are the perfect place to capture views of fascinating wildlife. Its cultural credentials aren’t negligible, either, with museums, castles, a cathedral, and plenty of stately homes and halls to visit – like Sandringham, where the Royal Family stay, and Holkham with its glorious gardens and parkland.

We recommend… exploring scenery and Sandringham

Boats aren’t the only way to enjoy the Norfolk countryside. Enjoy the county’s heritage railways with this five-day escorted tour . It features three different rail journeys, a paddle steamer cruise, visits to pretty villages like Horning, and a tour of Sandringham with a talk by historian Lucy Worsley.

Lincolnshire

michaelgate, lincoln cathedral, lincoln, england

Historic architecture abounds in Lincolnshire, the second-largest county in England. From castles and forts, to manors, medieval farmhouses and the impressive Lincoln Cathedral, you won’t be short of heritage places to visit. Elsewhere, the seaside, woods and nature reserves call for you to dust off your bike or boots for a great outdoorsy break. There’s plenty of parkland and formal gardens to visit, too, as well as farms and wildlife parks for the kids.

We recommend… a garden-filled getaway

Combine history and horticulture with this four-day break which will take you around some of the loveliest gardens in England. You’ll get to experience Lincolnshire with a trip to Easton Walled Gardens, as well as the formal grounds of RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate, and the orchards of Haddon Hall in Derbyshire. Other highlights include a talk by gardener and writer Arthur Parkinson, and residence in a country manor hotel near Chesterfield.

Northumberland

hadrian's wall, cumbria, uk

Nothing quite compares to the wild beauty of Northumberland, where big adventures beckon and heart-tuggingly beautiful landscapes mingle with mighty castles, quaint fishing towns and, of course, those gloriously pristine skies. Owing to the low level of light pollution, Northumberland’s skies are some of the darkest in Britain, earning it Dark Sky Reserve status. People travel from far and wide to experience astrological activities here, from hotels that offer star-gazing experiences, to visitors packing a deckchair, gloves and flask, and having a good look at the Milky Way, sans equipment. You might even catch a frisson of the aurora.

We recommend… starry sojourns with an astronomer

In the company of an expert astronomer on this three-day astronomy tour , you’ll visit two observatories and attend talks, workshops, and demonstrations. Other highlights include trips to Hadrian's Wall and a local brewery.

nymans garden

Does anything much beat the experience of a flower-filled foray through a classic English garden on a warm summer’s day? Often referred to as the Garden of England itself, Kent is a botanical beauty, and home to some of the country’s loveliest – and most famous – gardens, from the rare plants of Great Comp Garden and the global collection at Lullingstone Castle, to the classic, romantic grounds of Scotney Castle. It owes its moniker not just to these renowned horticultural hotspots, but also to the county’s lush landscapes, vineyards, hop fields and fruit-filled orchards, which grow like a dream because of the temperate climate.

We recommend… a flowery foray to the Garden of England

You can discover these wonderful gardens and more with this exclusive four-day tour around Kent and Sussex . Along the way, garden designer, writer and broadcaster Sarah Raven will join you for a special talk, and you’ll enjoy private tours and out-of-hours access to some of the grounds.

Isles of Scilly

scenic view of garden

From the subtropical flora and fauna of Tresco to the white sands of St Martin’s, the five inhabited islands of this postcard-worthy archipelago each have their own distinct features, and they’re all spectacular.

Life hits differently here; days are spent kicking about on powdery soft sands, taking in the rugged, raw beauty of the coastlines by boat, tucking into the day’s catch in the pub, and spotting marine wildlife, like dolphins, whales, puffins and even seals. Despite being just 28 miles or so off the coast of Cornwall, these fabulous islands feel worlds apart from the rest of England, making for an idyllic UK break without the fuss of international travel.

We recommend… island-hopping off the south coast

Escorted group holidays give you a good introduction to the inhabited Isles of Scilly. This six-day tour offers the chance to explore all five of the islands. Highlights include a stay on St Mary’s, a visit to the world-famous gardens on Tresco, a wildlife cruise around St Agnes, a trip to St Martin's and its vineyard, and lunch on Bryer.

There’s also a five-day tour if you have a slightly smaller time frame and budget, with Bryer being the only island not included.

The Hebrides

tobermory view isle of mull scotland

Wanders around little port towns, picnics on beautiful white-sand beaches, smoked kippers for breakfast, whisky tastings in the afternoons – holidays to the Outer Hebrides are the stuff of dreams. There’s so much to see and do, it can be hard to know where to start. And each island has its own character, from the rugged landscapes of the Isle of Harris to the Borve Standing Stones on Barra. Luckily, it’s easy enough to hop around on ferries, providing a new perspective on how to see the Scottish archipelago, and maybe even spot some unusual marine wildlife along the way.

We recommend… enjoying scenic drives and Scottish castles

This six-day island-hopping tour around the Outer Hebrides is a great way to see the islands, with an itinerary that features a scenic drive along the Isle of Barra, a distillery tour on the Isle of Harris, sightseeing on Lewis, and a castle tour on Stornoway.

Scottish Highlands

portrait of cow standing on field against sky, isle of skye, united kingdom,uk

Once you’ve experienced the wild, weathered beauty of the Scottish Highlands, you never forget it. Gazing out at the dramatic mountains of the north west, Jurassic-like formations of the glens, the stoic beauty of the lochs, and the Tolkienesque charm of The Trossachs feels like staring at a real-life postcard, and the only way to better the scenery is to make sure you’re traversing it the right way. Let it be said, that rail is one of the best ways to explore the Scottish Highlands – in fact the Jacobite steam train is said to take you on one of the world’s most spectacular train journeys, following the Road to the Isles.

We recommend… experiencing one of the best rail routes in the world

On our four-day tour of the Scottish Highlands , you can experience this Jacobite steam train journey for yourself, along with a cruise on Loch Katrine, and a paddle steamer voyage on the River Clyde. Scottish broadcaster and journalist Kirsty Wark will also be doing a special talk and Q&A one evening.

Is TUI Premium Worth it? (Honest 2024 Review)

If you’re booking a flight with TUI and considering flying in their premium class, you might be wondering whether it is worth the additional cost or not. TUI Premium is not quite business or first but is arguably a little more comfortable than a standard premium economy.

I am a British Travel Writer based in Mexico and I always fly with TUI Premium every time I fly back to the UK to visit family, and then again when I return to Mexico. For me, the extra cost is worth the more spacious seating and additional perks, especially for someone who hates flying.

At this point, I’ve flown TUI Premium about 8 times in the last 3 years. If you’re on the fence, I’ll share my experiences here.

Flying from Cancun, Mexico to Birmingham, UK with TUI Premium

Table of Contents

Is TUI Premium Worth it?

It’s important to understand exactly what you get when you fly with TUI Premium so that you can decide as to whether it’s worth it or not for you. Flying with TUI Premium means that you have larger, extra legroom seats set in a smaller cabin with a 2-3-2 formation that only seats 63 passengers.

When departing from UK airports, you can drop your luggage off at the hotel the night before your flight, you get fast-track security and lounge access. Premium passengers are the first priority to board and disembark the aircraft and when you arrive on board, you’ll be given a welcome glass of prosecco, a complimentary toiletries bag, and a bottle of water.

The “premium” meals service means that you enjoy slightly better food than in the economy section of the plane, and complimentary drinks and snacks are provided throughout the flight. Personally, I am in the minority of people who actually enjoy airplane food anyway, but the food with TUI has always been pretty good and you usually get a choice of 2-3 different mains.

Spacious seats and complimentary goodies on TUI Premium

How much extra do you have to pay?

An important consideration when deciding whether TUI Premium is worth it or not is deciding how much extra you have to pay. I’ve only flown on routes from the UK to Mexico and flight prices across the board have increased a lot in the last few years, making the journey more expensive on the whole.

The amount I’ve paid for TUI Premium has varied depending on the time of year that I was travelling. Booking a flight from Cancun to Manchester for October 2024, TUI Premium seats cost me an additional £259 per person, whereas in the past I have paid less than £200 per person.

Since I’ve mostly either travelled alone or just with my partner, we could justify the extra cost but it quickly adds up if you are a family of 4 or 5. Sometimes you are able to snag upgrades for lower costs at the last minute so if you’re not keen to spend hundreds on a premium seat, it’s still worth keeping an eye out and checking what’s available on the TUI website before you go. (Or inquire at the airport on your day of travel if there are any upgrades available).

Priority check-in and fast-track security

I’ve flown from Birmingham and Manchester airport several times with TUI Premium and the priority baggage drop/check-in and security fast track is much appreciated. A few times I’ve passed through Manchester airport in the peak of summer or right before Christmas and the “general” security queue was a chaotic nightmare, whereas I was able to skip through in less than 20 minutes with my fast track.

tui escorted tours reviews

Lounge access

One of the biggest perks of flying with TUI Premium is complimentary access to a premium airport lounge which ordinarily would cost at least £30 per person to enter depending on the specific lounge. Most lounges let you enter anywhere between 3-4 hours before your departure time and the information boards keep you posted on when your flight is boarding.

I’ve experienced the No.1 lounge in Birmingham and the Escape Lounge in Manchester a few times and both have been decent. If you have a morning flight, you can enjoy an “all you can eat” buffet-style full English breakfast, as well as various cakes and pastries and unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Later in the day, there are different meal options available.

Sometimes the lounges have been a little busy, but it’s still been a much more comfortable way to wait for a flight than just waiting in the general seats of the terminal.

Additional legroom and priority seating

I am only 5”1 so I don’t necessarily need the larger seats or extra leg room but never underestimate the comfort of having additional personal space on a long-haul flight! It was great to not feel that I was cramped up right beside strangers or that I had to essentially give someone a lap dance every time I scooted past them to go to the bathroom(!)

Still, if you’re tall, and the legroom is one of the only factors that really appeal to you for booking a Premium seat, you can also consider just upgrading to one of the extra legroom seats at the front of the plane for £40 instead of paying the premium fee.

Free seat selection

When you book a TUI Premium flight, you can choose your seats wherever you want within the premium section. I’d advise doing this as soon as you book your tickets, especially if there are a few of you so that you don’t end up sitting separately.

You will be able to see what is available before purchasing your tickets. One small qualm I have is that I sometimes fly back to England with my partner, or I sometimes fly back alone, and TUI does not let solo passengers book the aisle seat so as to not “separate families” meaning that if you are travelling alone, you have to take a window seat or take whatever you are assigned later.

Fewer perks from foreign airports

I always find that the experience of flying with TUI Premium is better when departing from the UK rather than flying back. I guess that TUI does not have partnerships with international airport lounges because, on the return leg of the journey, lounge access is not included, there is no security fast track, and no gift bags or complimentary goodies are provided at the start of the flight.

This means that if you are flying back from Cancun, the Dominican Republic, or wherever, you have to pay separately if you want to use the airport lounge. So arguably you get less value for money on the return leg.

Food services on board

As I mentioned, I am one of those strange people who actually like airplane food and I always get excited about browsing the menu to see what options are available.

The amount of meals served no doubt varies depending on the flight length/route. It takes about 8 hours to fly from the UK to Mexico so two meals are usually served on board TUI flights to Cancun or Puerto Vallarta but obviously, this may differ if you are flying elsewhere.

This has often been a meal and a British afternoon tea when departing from the UK, and a meal and a breakfast or light snack when flying back to England. Meals were served with wine service and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and then shortly after, the air hostesses offered Baileys or Brandy as an aperitif.

Since “unlimited drinks” are included in the flight ticket, the trolley comes back and forth a ton of times. (Perhaps even too many since I’ve often seen people drunk and asleep halfway through the journey!)

Entertainment on board

Like most airlines, all TUI passengers have an entertainment system built into their seatback with a selection of movies, TV shows, and radio stations that they can enjoy. Disposable headphones are handed out at the start of the flight.

There is usually a mixture of new cinema releases and classic movies, and I’ve always found plenty to watch and do. Being in TUI Premium doesn’t come with any better or different entertainment as compared to being in Economy, and one small observation I would make is that there are no subtitles available for people watching movies in different languages.

Since most passengers are British holidaymakers, this probably isn’t that much of an issue for most travellers, but as my partner is Mexican, he wasn’t able to watch any of the movies or shows.

When I flew from Manchester to Cancun in November 2022, the plane’s entertainment system was down and unavailable for the entire 8.5-hour flight. The crew tried to reset it several times, delaying the takeoff time by an hour, before ultimately notifying passengers that they would not be able to get it to work.

This was frustrating on a long-haul flight, but I would say that these kinds of one-off negative experiences could happen at any time, on any airline. I had befriended one of my fellow passengers on that flight who contacted TUI to complain, and they were hard to reach and only offered him a £20 TUI voucher for a future flight.

Final thoughts

Do you have any further questions about flying TUI Premium? Have you flown with them yourself and have experiences you’d like to share? As I mentioned I’ve flown with them a bunch of times and will fly with them again on my next flight from Mexico to the UK and back, and will probably continue to do so on subsequent flights.

FYI this article is not a sponsored post, and I have paid for all of my flights myself. Oh, and if you are indeed flying to Cancun, you might find this post on how to pass through Cancun customs quickly, quite useful.

Have a safe journey! Melissa xo

Reviews of TUI Italia Tours

Our family of five had a wonderful trip to the Amalfi Coast thanks to our guide, Mary and driver, Angelo! Mary provided us with such great information and history of the area- and pointed out important structures along the way. She knew all the best places to stop for the ideal photos. We even stopped at a lovely fruit stand run by such a nice gentleman who made us the most wonderful freshly squeezed fruit juice!!  The entire ride to and from Amalfi was so entertaining and enjoyable because of this Tui team, I forgot to be nervous about the winding cliffside road. Angelo, was such a great and safe driver! It really was a crazy & winding road but Angelo drove so well -handling the curvy roads, the traffic and stop offs for photos so professionally - that I wasn’t nervous at all!  When we arrived in Amalfi we had only a short amount of time to stay. Mary took us into town, helpfully explained more of its history pointing to the highlights and showed us the best olive oil and balsamic vinegar store! She really saved us so much time by listening to what we all wanted to see in such a short amount of time-I truly appreciate how she listened and catered to us!  There was one mishap that happened while we were there which delayed this wonderful Tui team in getting back on time and so I greatly apologize for that since it was my fault. Mary worked very hard to help me with a difficult situation that I got myself into with a store owner. Mary could have looked at her watch and said that we have to go now and not to worry but she wanted to help resolve the situation. She communicated professionally with the store owner since I was unable to speak in the language and attempted to resolve the misunderstanding. I want to thank Mary for what she did and also for going the extra mile for a customer. And again I want to apologize for keeping her and Angelo an extra hour later- when they should have been done with our tour already and been back home to their own families! And I also want to mention that I can just imagine that Angelo was also inconvenienced because of my situation and was probably trying to figure out where to park or drive in that busy Amalfi area while we were delayed! Again- so very sorry about that! Mary and Angelo were such a great tour team and we were so blessed that day to have them! We hope that everyone can have such a great experience as we did that day- we will have such good memories of our day in Amalfi because of them. Thank you!   Sincerely, Jenny McKeigue
Lovely tour, particularly of Siena and San Gimignano. From cathedrals to cobblestones, turrets to towers, Pinocchio dolls to pasta, and reds to whites, this all-day tour was a wonderful experience to cherish and remember years from now. Special praise to Yvonne from Tui Italia for her outstanding responsiveness, communications, and agility.
Our experience with the Sorrento Escape, Private Tour through Tour Radar was nothing short of exceptional. From the very beginning, Yvonne at Tour Radar met our every need with precision and care. Her responses to all of our questions and requests were always prompt, ensuring we felt well taken care of at every stage of planning. The attention to detail was impressive, as every aspect of our trip was meticulously organized from start to finish. We enjoyed private tours and pickups throughout our journey, and each guide and driver was punctual, knowledgeable, and an absolute pleasure to spend time with. Their expertise added an enriching layer to our experience, making each location we visited come to life. The tour itself was perfectly balanced, allowing us to fully explore the stunning coastline and the island of Capri. We had ample time to visit famous landmarks, enjoy the best local cuisine, and still have plenty of moments to relax and unwind. Overall, the Sorrento Escape was a flawless blend of adventure and relaxation, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore this beautiful region with top-notch service.
