Despite taking a number of splits, 10CC has been playing rock music since 1972 and are from Stockport, Cheshire, England.

Having known each other as boys, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme eventually met Graham Gouldman having attended the same secondary school as Godley; their musical enthusiasm led to playing at the local Jewish Lads' Brigade. Because each member had been a part of a different band, the band wasn’t officially formed as 10CC until 1972. Having been joined by Eric Stewart, the band signed with UK Records in 1971 and released their self-titled debut album in 1972 through Strawberry Studios. Despite the release of another successful album entitled “Sheet Music” in 1973, the band split with their label and moved to Mercury Records in February 1975.

While with Mercury Records, the band recorded and released two albums, “The Original Soundtrack” (released in 1975) and “How Dare You!” (released in 1976); both of which were considered successful. However, due to friction between the creative minds, the band split in 1976 for the first time. When the “How Dare You!” was completed, Godley and Creme left 10cc to work on a project that eventually evolved into the triple LP set Consequences. Meanwhile, Stewart and Gouldman opted to continue as 10cc, working with drummer Paul Burgess, who had been their tour backup drummer. Together the three of them released “Deceptive Bends” in 1977, and then set out on tour.

Unfortunately, the band hit another set back when Stewart was badly injured in a car crash, and not releasing any new material until 1981 with “Ten Out of 10.” However, after 1983 the band started to grow apart, with both Stewart and Gouldman producing for other projects. With the exception of a four CD box set of greatest hits, it wasn’t until 1991 that the band truly reunited with all four original members coming together to record “…Meanwhile” which was subsequently released in 1992. The album did not spawn any major hits, but was relatively well received in Japan and in Europe and thus the band set out on a successful tour of the two countries.

After the tour, Stewart parted ways with the band permanently, and again the band did not play together until 1999 when Gouldman reconvened the band. Despite not releasing any new material, the band has continued to play live shows, and in 2012 the band celebrated their 40th anniversary.

Live reviews

I am an absolute sucker for power pop. The 70s, particularly the early 70s, was a decade that was flooded with this style of music. T.Rex, Big Star and The Raspberries were dominating the pop charts at that time; however, 10cc as talented as they were have -to an extent- been unjustly overlooked. They are group who approached their songwriting with sharp wit and acute self-awareness. They knew what type of music sold and weren't necessarily shy about exploiting budding trends. Having been studio musicians and writers of hit songs for band like the Yardbirds and Herman's Hermits they were knowledgeable on the process of creating pop masterpieces.

Considering 10ccs is comprised of studio musicians it goes with out question they are excellent live performers. Their shows are precisely coordinated and well mixed. The sound is tight. The drums are compressed and well maintained, the bass lays nicely in the mix, and the guitars are crystal clear. During the dreamesque interludes in their performance the keyboards, guitars, and vocals start to loose their definition and flow into unison with each other.

10ccs are very enjoyable to watch live because they not only play their soft rock hits such as "Not In Love" but they also delve straight into more progressive and interesting styles of music. The song "Dreadlock Holiday" is a reggae sort of jam teeming with wild percussion, swirling keyboard riffs, upstroke guitar chucks wetted with flange and a grooving dub bass line. The group might even show their prog rock side with songs like "Art for Art Sake" presumably a reference to the 19th century philosophy of aestheticism. In this song they really show off their technical skills indulging in dual guitar solos, keyboard improvisations and divergences into weird time signatures. 10ccs constantly prove to their audience that their concerts can be just as exciting as they are relaxing.

The gig took place at Tinghallen in Viborg, Denmark 25/11/16. Being an important band in my youth in the seventies, it became an absolutely fantastic experience that brought me back on memory lane reaching goose bumps several times during the one and half hour concert. Brilliant sound, vocals at the very top and a band that was present in full. Simply the best performance I could ever dream of and I'm priviledged to witness the band's outstanding qualities - still going strong after all these years - vintage wine at it's best.

Six out of Six stars - go see them and FEEL THE BENEFIT yourself.

Awsome! Surreal!

Who would have thought that I'd get the chance to actually SEE the band perform? I could tell that they also enjoyed being on stage in Stockholm, making us happy. They did put on a show that felt genuine and as if it was yesterday the songs were written.

I looked around and thought: What a lot of OLD people here… Then, realizing that they are not OLD at all. We are the same age and still kickin' it! :-) I'd suggest everyone that feel the urge to see them on stage GO DO IT!

Thanks guys, I'm still smiling and singing your songs for my patients!

this was one of the best gigs I've attended so far. The warm up band were Amazing and really down to earth even spending the entire interval with the audience. 10cc have not lost anything, the entire show was well put on, entertaining and spanned thier entire history. Would definitley go see these again and would recommend to anyone.

In the first half, we were treated to the whole of the 10cc second album Sheet Music - including the singles The Wall Street Shuffle and Silly Love. The second half consisted of hits from the many other albums. Many standing ovations - I won't spoil the playlist but we were treated to a surprise a capella number.

A brilliant night at Birmingham Symphony Hall. Went as a trip down Memory Lane but WOW - these guys far exceeded expectations. The audience were mesmerised at their musicianship. They were very entertaining too, with a nice smattering of background to the tracks.. Highly recommended - whatever your age!

10cc to Embark on First U.S. Tour in Over Three Decades

10cc 's pending Ultimate, Ultimate Greatest Hits Tour will bring the '70s hitmakers to America for the first time in more than three decades.

They're best known for "I'm Not In Love," a single composed by Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart which reached No. 2 in the U.S. and No. 1 in the U.K. in 1975. 10cc hit the American Top 5 again in 1976 with "The Things We Do for Love," which was also composed by Gouldman and Stewart.

Gouldman continues to lead the group. Shows kick off in July at Montclair, N.J., with stops in New York City, St. Louis, Dallas, Los Angeles and San Francisco to follow through August. Meet-and-greet packages and VIP tickets will be available during pre-sale; visit 10cc.world to find out more. A complete list of announced dates is below.

READ MORE: Revisiting 20 One-Hit Wonders from the '70s

10cc emerged from the '70s boasting four consecutive gold-selling U.K. albums beginning with 1974's Sheet Music , but saw their momentum slow in the new decade. The band went dormant from 1983 through the '90s. But their songs lived on: "I'm Not In Love" featured prominently in the chart-topping soundtrack to 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy . "Dreadlock Holiday," a U.K. chart-topping hit from 1978, was also featured in 2010's The Social Network .

10cc built that kind of lasting appeal with timeless songs, Gouldman argues. "They don't seem to date," he said in an official release. "We never followed any trend; we simply wrote for our own pleasure. The fact that the songs are being played as often on the radio as they ever were shows how true that is."

Gouldman is the only founding member to appear on every 10cc project, but the current lineup includes two other legacy members: Drummer Paul Burgess initially came on board in 1973 as a touring member before officially joining in time for 1977's Deceptive Bends , home to "The Things We Do For Love." Guitarist Rick Finn arrived shortly thereafter, performing on 10cc's 1977 concert recording Live and Let Live .

Graham Gouldman Sets 10cc, ‘Heart Full of Songs’ Tours

10cc on tour 2023

Gouldman formed what became “Heart Full of Songs” ten years ago purely for the pleasure of playing his songs in their simplest form: acoustically. The format’s popularity is such that the presentation now tours the U.K. between 10cc’s sell-out tours.

Gouldman said, “I hope you enjoy the gigs as much as we enjoy playing them.”

As of mid-January, the 10cc dates are taking place in Sweden, Denmark, New Zealand and Australia. The “Heart Full of Songs” shows are in the U.K. Gouldman told Best Classic Bands they’re working on a U.S. tour.

Gouldman’s career took off in 1965 following what turned out to be a blessing in guise. Columbia rejected his first single composition for his band The Mockingbirds, which featured future 10cc co-founder Kevin Godley on drums. The song, “For Your Love,” became a significant hit for the Yardbirds.

In a 2015 interview with Best Classic Bands , Gouldman said, “the Yardbirds were doing a Christmas show with the Beatles, supporting them at Hammersmith Odeon at the end of ’64. And [my manager] sent the song to the publisher. He knew the Yardbirds were looking for material and he played them ‘For Your Love’ and that was it.” The song reached #3 in the U.K. and #6 in the U.S.

Watch Gouldman perform the song acoustically

Working by day in a men’s outfitters shop and playing by night with his semi-professional band, Graham went on to write a string of hits, such as “Pamela, Pamela” (Wayne Fontana), “Bus Stop” and “Look Through Any Window” (The Hollies), “No Milk Today” and “Listen People” (Herman’s Hermits), among others.

In 1972, along with Godley, Eric Stewart, and Lol Creme, he formed 10cc. The band enjoyed a string of Top 10 hits, including three that reached #1 in the U.K. – “Rubber Bullets,” “I’m Not In Love” and “Dreadlock Holiday.”

Watch 10cc perform “Rubber Bullets” in 2022

“Heart Full of Songs” shows also include tracks from Gouldman’s acclaimed solo albums, And Another Thing , Love and Work , Play Nicely and Share and 2020’s Modesty Forbids .

Gouldman’s latest project was his new song, “Floating In Heaven,” that caught the attention of Queen’s Brian May, at a crucial time in the history of space exploration.

May, who has a passion for astronomy and a PhD in astrophysics, worked with Gouldman to release the song as a single to mark the unveiling to the world of the first astonishing images from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope on July 12, 2022. The pair performed the song with a full orchestra at the sixth Starmus convention, held in September in Yerevan, Armenia.

10cc – The Ultimate Greatest Hits Tour 2023

The Opera House, 2nd June 2023

Reviewed by: Graeme King

Pre-tour, Graham Gouldman – original band member/leader, vocalist, bassist, and guitarist – said that 10cc’s “main strength is the songs. Hit after hit after hit. It’s relentless. We show no mercy”. This was proven to a full Wellington Opera House. Joining Gouldman were Rick Fenn (lead guitar, bass, vocals), Paul Burgess (drums, percussion, keyboards), Keith Hayman (keyboards, vocals, guitar, bass), and Iain Hornal (vocals, keyboards, guitar, bass, mandolin, percussion) – five very talented multi-instrumentalists and singers.

The pre-concert intro Son Of Man got me suitably hyped-up. The Second Sitting For The Last Supper was an energetic start on a stage bathed in a swarth of gorgeous hues of red and blue lighting. Hornal had some distracting minor technical issues initially, but neither his nor the band’s performance suffered, and the sound was impressive overall.

After Good Morning Judge, Fenn said “Wellington is a very special place for me, my dad was born here” to loud applause.

The Dean And I was followed by Old Wild Men , featuring a beautiful guitar interplay/duel between Fenn and Hornal. The Wall Street Shuffle came before Floating in Heaven , written last year by Brian May (Queen) and Gouldman. Fenn’s delicate but searing slide guitar did the song justice.

The popular The Things We Do For Love preceded the recent Hornal and Gouldman composition Say The Word . Then it was the pre-recorded intros for I’m Mandy Fly Me and the crowd favourite  I’m Not In Love, featuring sublime four-part harmonies. Dreadlock Holiday, with the crowd singing enthusiastically, finished the set.

The first encore was an a cappella doo-wop version of 10cc’s first hit single Donna , with the band in a circle and featuring Hornal’s stunning falsetto voice, finished with an off-key note by non-singer Burgess to everyone’s amusement!  Rubber Bullets had some of the audience out of their seats and dancing up a storm to end the evening.

Support act Hello Sailor, in “stripped-back unplugged mode”, were in fine form covering all their hits. Featuring original members Harry Lyon and Rick Ball, with Paul Woolright and Jimmy Taylor, this was a well-oiled machine.

10cc Announce UK Dates For 2023

by Music-News.com on June 28, 2023

10cc are heading out on ‘The Ultimate Ultimate Greatest Hits Tour’ in Spring 2024.

10cc will be returning to the road after their sell-out ‘Ultimate Greatest Hits Tour’ in 2022.

The announcement comes just as the band mark the end of their five-week tour in Australia and New Zealand.

The band – comprised of Graham Gouldman, Rick Fenn, Paul Burgess, Keith Hayman and Iain Hornal – will kick off the UK tour in Bristol on March 7, and will play a total of 18 concerts including a highly anticipated return to London’s Royal Albert Hall on March 25.

The remaining founding member of the band, Gouldman said: “In our formative years, it was all about the songs, and it’s the same for us now. We play them with love and energy, hit after hit after hit… we show no mercy.”

10cc have sold over 15 million albums in the UK alone, and the group’s extensive catalogue includes number one hits ‘Rubber Bullets’, ‘Dreadlock Holiday’ and 1975 single ‘I’m Not In Love’ – which was a global smash – and classics such as ‘Donna’, ‘Art For Art’s Sake’ and ‘Good Morning Judge’.

10cc will head to Europe this Autumn for a 17-date tour across Holland, Belgium and Germany.

English singer-songwriter and musician Graham Gouldman rose to early fame as a member of 1960s band The Mockingbirds. But by the time the group disbanded in 1966, Graham’s ability as a songsmith had moved centre stage, with hits for Wayne Fontana, Herman’s Hermits, The Yardbirds, The Hollies and Jeff Beck.

After a spell song-writing in the United States, he returned to the UK and co-founded 10cc in 1972, co-writing a string of hits such as Rubber Bullets, I’m Not In Love, The Things We Do for Love and Dreadlock Holiday.

Graham’s status as one of the world’s leading songwriters was acknowledged in 2014 with his induction into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame – an arm of America’s National Academy of Music. Fellow inductees include Noel Coward, Burt Bacharach, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Elton John and Sting.

While fronting the current 10cc live band, Graham also has a four-piece semi-acoustic band – Heart Full of Songs – to perform material from across his song-writing career, including the classic hits, film soundtracks and songs from his solo albums.

Heart Full of Songs...

It is only between 10cc’s sell-out, bi-annual UK tours that the band’s co-founder Graham Gouldman is able to fully indulge his Heart Full of Songs project and take it on tour.

As a result, the semi-acoustic four-piece –performing a broad spread of Graham’s song-writing catalogue, including chart hits for 10cc, the Hollies, Herman’s Hermits, the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck and his time in Wax with Andrew Gold.

Graham is one of the founding members of the English rock band 10cc, which was formed in 1972. He played multiple roles in the band, including bassist, guitarist, and vocalist. Gouldman was also the primary songwriter for many of the band's biggest hits, such as "I'm Not in Love," "The Wall Street Shuffle," and "Dreadlock Holiday."

10cc had great commercial success throughout the 1970s, selling millions of records worldwide and earning critical acclaim for their unique blend of rock, pop, and experimental music.

Graham continues to perform live with 10cc performing all of the bands greatest hits, along with some exemplary musicians.
