In 2016, BLACKPINK took its first steps toward K-pop greatness. Thanks to YG Entertainment, members Kim Jisoo, Jennie Kim, Roseanne Park, and Lalisa Manobal joined together to create what would become one of the most popular girl groups in South Korean music.
BLACKPINK’s talents in hip-hop and dance-pop helped the all-female squad get ahead early.
BLACKPINK kicked things off with its album Square One. Featuring songs “Whistle” and “Boombayah,” Square One reinvented typical K-pop elements with an edgier trap-style energy. Eventually, this would become BLACKPINK’s signature sound.
“Whistle” and “Boombayah” left lasting impressions not only in South Korea, but in the U.S. as well. Following its swift climb up the charts, BLACKPINK released Square Two in late 2016. Square Two was a massive success thanks to the tracks “Playing with Fire” and “Stay.” Soon enough, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to land on the Canadian music charts.
The group’s next single “As If It’s Your Last” hit the airwaves in 2017 and paved the way for a stellar Japanese debut. The group’s self-titled EP included re-recorded Japanese versions of previous songs. After soaring to the top of Japan’s charts, the group followed up in 2018 with Re:BLACKPINK, a re-release of the EP which included both Korean- and Japanese-language versions of each track.
BLACKPINK’s rise took the ultimate turn with its 2018 EP Square Up. International hit single “DDU-DU DDU-DU” was the perfect example of high-energy “K-trap.” The song’s accompanying music video became one of the most-watched K-pop videos on YouTube, with over one billion views. It was no surprise the track also landed BLACKPINK a coveted spot on the Billboard Hot 100, a first for any all-female K-pop group.
The band’s worldwide popularity shifted as they sealed a deal with Interscope/Universal. Later in 2018, a highly-anticipated collaboration alongside popstar and label partner Dua Lipa on “Kiss and Make Up” set BLACKPINK up for more global success. After the song left a memorable mark on the U.S. and U.K. charts, the girl group released another Japanese-language compilation titled BLACKPINK in Your Area.
In 2019, the K-pop quartet expanded its discography with another top-notch EP. Kill This Love set the tone for the band’s upcoming worldwide debut. BLACKPINK’s next single “How You Like That” was its seventh track to climb high on the global charts, proving the band was an international force to be reckoned with.
In addition to Dua Lipa, the group worked closely with pop phenoms like Lady Gaga on “Sour Candy” and Selena Gomez on “Ice Cream.” By securing these collabs, the K-pop band set the standard for their full-length debut.
Due to long-lasting success, BLACKPINK embarked on numerous tours. A string of arena performances from 2018 to 2020 spanned across the globe and kept the band’s popularity at an all-time high. Dedicated fans saw the all-female quartet up close and personal as it put on a must-see show.
2020’s The Album was BLACKPINK’s first full-length studio album, with eight high-energy tracks – including “Bet You Wanna,” featuring rapper Cardi B. With this collaboration and more dance-pop vibes, The Album cemented next-level acclaim among fans and fellow musicians. The LP took well-deserved top spots in countries like South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S.
BLACKPINK’s sophomore album Born Pink took the world by storm in 2022. No one could deny its power, especially after the release of lead single “Pink Venom.” Other favorites like “Shut Down” helped Born Pink set more records for the K-pop genre. In its first week, the LP hit number one in the U.S.
Live reviews
The concert was more than I ever imagined! I love the group, I love the girls, I love the songs and dances!!! The experience was unforgettable beacuse I enjoy listening to their music nonstop and now i saw and heard all songs live! I am so lucky!
But my experience before the concert was a disaster... The thibgs started with the endless queue for merchedinse. I waited for two hours and in the end they told me the lightsticks were sold out? That was so disappointing for me and all people in the queue. Also, yes it was long queue but there were not ever a barricades or anything to keep the lines from queue passing!!! So many people just came and went in the front adn nobody can say anything because they do not have proofe.
Another thing, when the doors opened at 18:30-18:40 nobody entered because the crawd( it was not even a queue) was not even moving a meter! Then the concert started 40mins later because the entering was not orgainsed at all! I am absolutely disappointed by the organisation but at least I tried my best to enjoy the show and one of my favourite groups!

Wow this concert was absolutely amazing. It’s so much better than I expected. I knew it was going to be great but wow... it was amazing. The atmosphere of the concert was outstanding. Even when they just put music videos on at the start everyone was screaming to them. The girls were so nice and were very interactive with the audience. My dad who doesn’t like Kpop enjoyed the concert as well. I’d really recommend seeing this concert.
Omg this show in london was amazing. The energy and atmosphere stay alive all night making the concert fun all the way through. each member did so well as well as jennie, the videos of her being lazy completely cancel out as she was energetic the whole night. they interact with the audience and not just sing and dance. They are so cute and make it enjoyable all the way through. Jisoo is also the cutest thing ever you have to see her live
Blackpink can you please come to Indiana I have been with you guys since your first released song and I would love to come to one of your concerts. It was my first BlackPink concert and I can say that they are truly the best and hottest girlgroup ever. The concert was full with excitement and emotions. Everyone had so much fun and the girls too. They rocked the show by their amazing looks, singing skills, rapping skills, dancing skills and I hope they will come again to Berlin!

BLACKPINK Makes History With Their Record-Breaking “BORN PINK” World Tour
From October 5, 2022 until September 17, 2023, BLACKPINK traveled to 34 cities in 22 different countries around the world for their massive BORN PINK world tour. Starting and ending in Seoul, the tour consisted of 66 concerts in the United States, Mexico, Australia, and several different European and Asian countries.
Since the tour concluded last month, data has been getting collected about the attendance and revenue that BLACKPINK brought in from the concerts, and with 56 of the 66 shows reported, the girl group has already broken huge records for Asian artists.
Even with ten shows unreported, the BORN PINK tour is now the highest-grossing tour in history by an Asian act, having made over $260 million USD from the nearly one and a half million people that attended the tour.

Fans of BLACKPINK are celebrating this massive achievement on Reddit, as well as anticipating what their final tour numbers will look like.

Blackpink will perform one more time in Mexico City on April 27, label YG Entertainment announced Friday.
The group originally planned to only hold one concert in the Mexican capital on April 26, but tickets sold out so fast it decided to add another on the following day.
The foursome is in the middle of its international tour that started last year. It visited seven cities each in North America and Europe last year for 24 concerts. It resumed the tour in Asia this year that brings the bandmates to 12 cities for 22 concerts.
Before continuing the Asian leg of the tour, Lisa flew to Paris Thursday to attend the 2023 fall/winter menswear show for Celine, for which she is the brand ambassador.
BTS tops 1.2b views with ‘Idol’ music video
The music video for BTS’ 2018 hit song “Idol” amassed 1.2 billion views on YouTube, label Big Hit Music said Friday.
“Idol” fronted its repackaged album “Love Yourself ‘Answer’” and the video is the septet’s fifth to reach the milestone, after those of “Boy With Luv (Feat. Halsey),” “Dynamite,” “DNA,” and “Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix).”
The music video topped 100 million views in less than five days, a record time for a K-pop band at the time.
The main track hit Billboard’s Hot 100 at No. 11 and UK’s Official Single Chart Top 100 at No. 21. It also topped the iTunes top songs chart in 66 regions as did the album on the iTunes top albums chart in 65 regions.
Last year “Idol” earned platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan for generating 100 million accumulated streams.
Hwang Min-hyun to greet fans at showcase
Hwang Min-hyun will host a showcase for fans in Seoul on Feb. 27 to mark the release of his first solo EP, agency Pledis Entertainment said Friday.
The event will be broadcast online via a number of platforms for his fans from around the world.
The singer and actor will perform the main track from EP “Truth Or Lie” for the first time at the showcase. The album is his first solo work and will show his yet-to-be-revealed sides, said his agency.
Hwang debuted as a member of NU’EST in 2012 but the bandmates decided to go separate ways when the team disbanded last year. He also was part of the project group Wanna One that formed through the second season of “Produce 101.”
Enhypen logs 100m views with ‘Drunk-Dazed’ music video
Enhypen’s music video for “Drunk-Dazed” generated 100 million views on YouTube as of Thursday, according to agency Belift Lab on Friday.
It is the boy band’s first music video to achieve the feat.
“Drunk-Dazed” is the lead track from its second EP, “Border: Carnival,” that came out in April 2021. The band picked up three trophies from television music charts with the pop rock tune while the EP debuted on Billboard 200 at No. 18. The album also topped Oricon’s monthly albums chart.
The seven-member act wrapped up its first international tour Manifesto this week. The tour started in September last year and brought the band to six cities in the US and three in Japan as well as Bangkok, Thailand, and Manila, Philippines, for 19 concerts.
Separately, a teaser video for its original variety show, En-O’Clock, was uploaded on Thursday. The show will start airing on Feb. 16.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie wore a midriff-baring wrap dress at the Met Gala 2024
By Sara Delgado
BLACKPINK's Jennie liked her time at the Met Gala so much last year that she just had to come back for round two.
On May 6, Jennie Kim surprised everyone when she graced the Met Gala 2024 red carpet wearing a wrap-around blue dress that showed off her midriff. And, to quote Cher Horowitz, you don't understand, it's custom Alaïa. The dress features a long train draping from her shoulder.
Jennie kept it monochromatic, wearing a pair of heeled pumps tied around her ankle in the exact same blue Klein shade. For accessories, she added dangly pearls in a silvery white and a matching belly chain. See BLACKPINK's Jennie's Met Gala 2024 look below:

Of course, as the style icon she is, fans had been hoping Jennie would attend the Met Gala 2024 for most of the weekend, especially since she was already in New York City. Jennie was spotted at South Korea's Incheon airport leaving for New York City on May 2, 2024 , which made fans raise their brows.
The musician made her way to NYC to attend the Gentle Monster “Jentle Salon” pop-up in Brooklyn in honour of her latest collaboration with the eyewear brand. The star rocked a backless Jacquemus LBD for the occasion, paired with the Hush 01 black sunnies from her collection.
After her Gentle Monster duties were done, Jennie took the chance to have fun around the city with fellow BLACKPINK member Rosé before being spotted leaving a mysterious location on her own on May 5, presumably for her Met Gala fitting. Jennie made her Met Gala debut in 2023, wearing a ‘90s vintage look from Chanel. She was the second member of BLACKPINK to ever attend the event after Rosé in 2021. With her latest look, she's adding another page to the BLACKPINK Met Gala book, and we are reading it all .

First-Timers Stray Kids Wear Custom Hilfiger to the 2024 Met Gala
By Irene Kim
Many of our favorite K-pop stars have attended the Met Gala, including Jennie (2023) and Rosé (2021) of Blackpink and NCT’s Johnny , but never have all members of a group shown up to the first Monday in May together and wearing the same designer—until tonight, that is. All eight Stray Kids flew from Seoul to make their red-carpet debut at the 2024 Met Gala in custom looks by Tommy Hilfiger. “Representing Tommy Hilfiger as eight members for the first time on the Met Gala carpet is truly a rare and honorable moment for us,” said Felix, a doe-eyed blonde Australian who has 22 million Instagram followers and counting.
The Tommy Hilfiger most of us are familiar with is preppy and all-American, but for the Met Gala, he wanted to be sure to channel the evening’s theme while staying true to his brand DNA. His signature red, white, and blue color scheme is incorporated throughout the eight members’ ’fits, with elegant floral detailing finishing off the looks. And if you thought that Hilfiger was taking an understated approach tonight, you thought wrong. This evening the members first walked on the carpet in what looked like your everyday wool peacoats but soon pulled them open to reveal that the linings formed the American flag.
Underneath their patriotic coats, Bang Chan, the leader of Stray Kids, wears a classic navy three-piece wool suit lined with red piping and topped off with a gold floral pin at the lapel, while Felix (who you may recognize from Nicolas Ghesquière’s fall 2024 Louis Vuitton runway) is in all white, sporting a silk suit embroidered with intricate flowers that goes exceptionally well with The Garden of Time dress code.
Hyunjin and Lee Know, who form the group’s dance and visual line, have opted for red, the former in a red double-breasted suit with gold crested buttons and the latter in a double-breasted blazer featuring red buttonhole details on the lapels.
Rappers Changbin and Han, meanwhile, are wearing matching button-ups. The shirts feature a translucent classic Tommy Hilfiger Ithaca stripe finished off with a gold floral button at the top. Rounding out the octet, I.N and Seungmin both paired their cotton shirts with satin suits. For Seungmin, as a longtime fan of Hilfiger, the evening is an unreal experience. “Tommy Hilfiger was a brand that I loved growing up, so it’s unreal to me that I grew up to become the model for the brand and even attend the Met Gala as its ambassador. It is such a great honor,” he said.
The group has sold out stadium tours across Asia, Australia, and North America, but walking the biggest event in fashion didn’t come without some nerves. “I’m nervous since this is our first Met but will power through to be the most presentable for this amazing opportunity,” Han told Vogue . “We couldn’t have done it without Stays, our fans, for always supporting us.”
Hilfiger was in his feelings too. “Dressing all eight Stray Kids—a global force in pop music—for a Met Gala red-carpet experience has been one for the books,” he said. “One of the special things about Stray Kids is each member has a completely individual style, and they all complement each other perfectly. This enabled us to design a sartorially cohesive yet distinctively personalized ensemble for them, reflecting their different personalities. The outfits blend our classic American cool style with floral and botanical details that pay homage to the story by J.G. Ballard and the time flower at the center of the tale. It was tailored with a distinctive Tommy twist to make this one night to remember.”
So can we expect a Stray Kids appearance at New York Fashion Week? Bang Chan, Changbin, and Lee Know (the members who have yet to make a Fashion Week appearance) sure hope so, pending the team’s schedules next September. Bang Chan said, “All the members are very interested in fashion, and attending shows is an experience that we can’t forget. There are still members among us who haven’t been able to experience the wonders of the shows yet, but I can assure you that we are all very willing to attend! Fingers crossed for New York Fashion Week!” We’re willing to bet that Stays are also crossing their fingers.
