The best budget travel trailer is the Dutchmen Aspen Trail 2260 RBS. It is a very comfortable travel trailer and has a large cooking space, bathroom, and living space. It also has a comfortable sleeping area.

As great as this travel trailer is, it won’t be the best option for everyone. This led me to put together this list of the best 21 travel trailers under $10,000. There won’t be many new travel trailers that you can get for this price.

But it is certainly possible to find brilliant, used travel trailers in this price range .

This travel trailer has multiple models. You can check out the different floor plans on their website. The coachman freedom express is right at the top of the sub $10,000 price range. You may want to shop around for a used one if need be.

The higher-end models of the Jayco jay flight can sleep up to 14 people, and they have a mighty 15-foot awning. That should be plenty of room for most families!

There are many models offered by Jayco. They have different floorplans and different features. The more premium models will have double sinks, entertainment centers, and outdoor kitchen areas. They will also have more spacious bathrooms.

But if you are simply looking for a simple RV trailer that will be a great first buy, this is a great option to consider.

This is a fairly comfortable camper for a reasonable price. The only issue is that the aluminum frame sometimes rattles while driving off-road. Some users also complain about the weight and maneuverability of the trailer when driving.

The kitchen space on this camper is quite nice. The sink is a little small though. There are two stoves for you to use and a couple of square feet of counter space. There is also a microwave and refrigerator.

It is one of the most popular travel trailers on the market today. The living area is quite large for such a small trailer, so if you have young kids or pets, this is great.

The tent is very easy to open up, and most people will be able to do it. Even if you are old or small, it is possible. You should not allow children to do this job though.

There is space for two beds in this travel trailer. So, if you have a small family that you are traveling with, this is a good option to consider.

However, keep in mind that this travel trailer is a tent. So, you won’t be able to use it in a place susceptible to heavy rain or wind.

The main benefit of this RV trailer is the size. Since it is so small, you can easily store it on your driveway at home. This is an important factor to consider since you are probably not going to be traveling for most of the year.

And if you do travel a lot, then you would probably invest in a proper RV.

This trailer features large windows, a queen-sized bed, and a full kitchen. It also has a full bathroom with hot water! This is a super comfortable RV trailer, which is perfect for slightly longer excursions.

If you have a family to travel with, this is one of the best trailers you can get. It is, however, more suited for couples since there is only one bed. But if you have a small baby to look after, or if you sleep with your pets, it will be okay.

The trailer is small, and you won’t be able to carry a large tank of freshwater. This travel trailer does not have other features like a shower.

Also, it is a little bit expensive for such a small trailer. It is possible to find similar-sized trailers for under $2,000 if you shop in the used market.

There is also an outdoor cooking area at the back of the trailer. However, it does not have a sink or stove. You will have to use your own stove or barbeque.

This is a simple travel trailer. Traveling in it won’t be the most comfortable experience, but it does the job. It is better than a tent.

In my opinion, it is better to have a trailer that is not comfortable. That way, you are forced to get outside and have some fun!

As with most travel trailers, air conditioning is standard on this model. There are two stoves in the kitchen area, space for a microwave, and a mini fridge. This is a super comfortable RV trailer. I recommend this one if you are going to be traveling in cold conditions.

The indoor kitchen of this RV is quite nice. It has 3 stoves, a refrigerator, and a sink. There are also plenty of overhead cabinets for storage. My only gripe with the cooking space is the fact that it is right next to the toilet!

The toilet in this RV trailer is very cramped. There is a shower in this RV trailer, but there is barely space to move in there.

So, this RV was definitely made with outdoor comfort in mind.

Inside, the trailer has an air conditioning unit for those hot days and a microwave. The cooking space is good, but the stoves are right next to the wall. So, it might be difficult to use long-handled saucepans on there.

There are two bunks in this RV trailer. The bottom bunk is right in front of a window though. So you may want to get a shade for that, otherwise, you won’t have any privacy when sleeping.

You can get a roll-down curtain that sticks to the window with suction cups. Kind of like what they use on car windows where children sit.

The best thing about this RV is the fact it has a wet bath. The bathtub is a good size, and most adults will be able to comfortably use it.

The bathroom of this travel trailer is quite large, and there is a shower unit in there. There is not a bathtub.

The dining space is square-shaped, and the table can be adjusted. This helps to save space and use the dining area as a living area too. At the back of the trailer, there is a queen bed.

So, if you are the type of person that likes lakeside camping trips, this might just be the RV trailer for you. This trailer is based on simplicity and escaping day-to-day life. It does not have that “home away from home” feel to it.

The interior of this travel trailer is not that comfortable, to be honest. Neither is it really practical. The reason why I have included it on this list though is because of the simplicity. Some people really like the bare minimum stuff when it comes to camping.

So, if you want to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life and paddle along lakes, this is a good option for you.

There are plenty of options if you want a travel trailer under $10,000. If you want a more premium or larger travel trailer, you may need to shop in the used market to find an affordable model.

If you are going to be going on short trips, alone or as a couple, then a teardrop trailer would be great. These trailers are small, lightweight, and simple. They are very affordable too.

If you are an infrequent traveler, a trailer with a tent would be good. This is because they are small, lightweight, and easy to store. They are more affordable than other models too.

Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose a Camper Trailer

The dry weight of the camper trailers listed in our guide ranges from 1,458 to 6,122 pounds. That weight typically excludes water, gas, batteries, or additional accessories like rooftop tents and racks. Pay attention to the dry weight of the camper so you can determine if the build is within the payload of your vehicle.

The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum total weight the trailer can safely weigh. The GVWR includes the dry weight, also known as the curb weight, plus the weight of people, accessories, supplies, and all your outdoor gear.

The GVWR of these trailer picks ranges from 2,200 to 10,000 pounds. You’ll need the GVWR so that you can calculate how much equipment you can safely haul in the trailer on the road, as well as how many people can sleep inside.

Clearance & Tires

If you plan on driving through rugged terrain that would require 4WD, you should invest in a trailer with generous ground clearance and off-road tires , and consider an articulating hitch to prevent toppling over on uneven terrain. Sturdier tires can also provide better traction on slick roads with snow or rain.

The ground clearance of the off-road models on our list range from 1.5 to 1.9 feet on the Timberleaf Classic Teardrop Trailer , Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper , Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 , and Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Overland .

When we take a close look at tires, the TigerMoth Overland is outfitted with the 225/75R16 ( Cooper Tires Discoverer AT3 LT ), offering a tread guard against rocks and gravel, extreme durability, and solid grip on wet roads or trails.

By comparison, the Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB has Goodyear Endurance ST225/75R15 Tires, which are great for towing stability and a high load capacity but are not ideal for rough terrain.

Sleep Space

At a minimum, our favorite compact travel trailers offer space for two people to sleep. A portion of these designs include cabins with a nonconvertible queen-size bed. Other trailer designs have options for a couch-to-bed conversion, like the TigerMoth Overland or Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 , or a structure that supports a rooftop tent.

The larger travel trailers on our list feature a range of comfortable overnight options. The designs range from daytime couches and fold-down Murphy beds to bunk beds to dinettes that transform into a bed. If you’re a taller or wider person, pay attention to the specific bed size.

For instance, the Winnebago Micro Minnie 2306BHS has a full queen-size mattress, whereas some trailers will have a narrower queen-size mattress. The Winnebago Micro Minnie 2306BHS also has a bunk bed that can fold up, so more space is available for storage when the bed isn’t needed.

Also, not all mattresses are created equal. The pad in the TigerMoth Overland is firm with no cushion or give. However, the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 features a high-density memory foam mattress, and the Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB has a pillow-top memory foam mattress.

A handful of the tidiest travel trailers have indoor space that’s solely dedicated to a queen-size bed and cubbies. Other tight trailers have beds that convert into a daytime couch or even have a table that can be easily installed. We like that even when the couch is pulled down into a bed in the TigerMoth Overland , there’s still a space to pull our shoes on and off.

Many trailers include an awning, which becomes a gem when you consider how much more space everyone will have to lounge out of the sun and rain at camp. Larger travel trailers typically have indoor sofas and dining tables that often convert into a bed.

Pricier, larger travel trailers have indoor kitchens with a range of features. Inside, you’ll often find a microwave, refrigerator, freezer, oven, sink, two- or three-burner stove, cabinets, countertop space, and dining table.

More compact, less expensive travel trailers have outdoor kitchens, and there’s a variety of unique designs. A galley organizes the kitchen area on the back of the rig, like on the Timberleaf Classic Off-Road Teardrop Trailer .

Other designs have pull-out drawers or fold-down units with the pantry, stove, sink, or countertop like the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 or the Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer .

The spacious travel trailers on our list have indoor bathrooms with a toilet and standup shower. Tinier travel trailers don’t have an indoor bathroom, but a handful have an outdoor shower head with warm water hookups like the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 and Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper .

If your camper trailer doesn’t have an indoor bathroom and you’re posted up in a remote place, be sure to research that location’s human waste and Leave No Trace requirements — whether that means digging a cathole or using a WAG bag.

Interior Storage

Interior storage space is great for organizing apparel, cosmetics, electronics, and other comforts. Inside, travel trailers often feature storage space like shelves and cubbies, but not all offer a latch system to hold items in place while driving around.

There can also be storage space beneath the mattress. The Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer had an aluminum interior frame, which extended onto the doors, with numerous holes to clip carabiners, hang dish towels, or slide in hangers to dry gear like our dense wetsuits .

Larger travel trailers usually have ample storage space, including cubbies beneath sofas, cabinets in the bathroom and kitchen, and even hanging closets.

Exterior Storage

Outside, tidy travel trailers can also have a toolbox, tongue box, or racks for storing gear and equipment. Large travel trailers also often have storage compartments facing outward, which sometimes include pass-through storage space.

Doors & Windows

We really appreciate it when the doors and windows are built to last in a travel trailer. One of the most unique door configurations is on the Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer . There’s a back door that swings open and a second door that opens upward like the gullwing doors on the DMC DeLorean in “Back to the Future.” Nearly the entire wall serves as a sturdy canopy.

Windows are great for allowing ample light and can help a space feel bigger, but shades are equally important for privacy and to block out the light of the full moon or campground lamp. Slide-down shades can black out the inside of the trailer, and bug screens can enable airflow regardless of bug activity. It’s also nice to have windows that can be locked when they’re cracked.

Electric, Solar, Gas, and Water

You’ll need to closely consider how much energy and resources you’ll need between trips to a gas station, store, or an overnight stay with shore power.

Even if you don’t plan to charge your laptop or watch television — an option in larger travel trailers — it’s nice to have battery power. The battery can run indoor and outdoor LED lights around the kitchen and doors, as well as the roof exhaust fan — and it can charge up phones. Many travel trailers feature a prewired solar inlet to get an energy boost off solar panels, too.

Each trailer will have a specific capacity for gas and water carry. For instance, the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 water tank boasts a 31-gallon capacity. The Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper has upgrade options for a 30-gallon water tank and bonus storage that holds two extra 5-gallon jerry cans. The Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer holds one 5-gallon jerry can.

In contrast, larger travel trailers have a greater water capacity, in great part to manage the bathroom. The Black Series HQ19 comes with a 50-gallon water tank for supply, a 26-gallon gray water tank for collection (for all used water except from the toilet), and a 26-gallon black water tank for all toilet waste.

Often trailers include an indoor smoke detector, fire extinguisher, and carbon monoxide detector.

How much weight can you tow?

Check your vehicle’s door jamb or owner’s manual for the payload, max towing, and tongue weight rating. Be sure not to exceed those caps with what’s hauled in the trailer and in the vehicle.

What camper trailer features allow off-road capability?

If you intend to off-road with your trailer, be sure to pick one with durable, all-terrain tires that can handle paved, gravel, dirt, and rocky surfaces. Look for a steel frame, ample clearance, axleless suspension, burly fenders, and articulating hitch.

How long do camper trailers last?

Most camper trailers will last between 10 and 15 years. However, numerous factors determine the lifespan of a camper trailer, and the most unpredictable is the human element. We definitely saved one of the best for last though, as the Micro Minnie 2100BH is another super popular model and trim level, especially for families.

Because like other trailers on this list, the 2100BH offers rear bunk beds, greatly increasing the sleeping capacity of this smaller camper .

From your more common four-person to an impressive six-person sleeping capacity.

Which is all the more impressive when you consider the trailer is only 21 feet long.

Like the other bunkhouse trailers on this list though, this Winnebago Micro Minnie offers more than just a high sleeping capacity.

As the trailer offers many other desirable features and attributes.

Including a two-person fixed east-to-west bed, a full-featured kitchen, and either a four-person convertible dinette booth or an EZ Glide sleeper sofa on a slide-out.

Plus, because the camper is a Winnebago it also offers many standard upgrades as well, such as NXG engineered frame, FILON MAX fiberglass composite sidewalls with Azdel, a 200-watt solar panel, power stabilizer jacks, and 12-volt tank pad heaters.

As well as a JBL high-performance media center with JBL premium speakers, upgraded appliances, a large undermount stainless steel kitchen sink with a high-rise faucet, and a Winnebago all-in-one control panel.

No travel trailer is perfect though, and this Micro Minnie is no exception to the rule.

As there are always compromises that have to be made when shopping for an RV.

And the compromise on the 2100BH is that it doesn’t offer a three-piece bathroom.

As the trailer only offers a two-piece bathroom with no bathroom vanity or sink .

This means you’ll have to use the kitchen sink in the trailer as both the kitchen and bathroom sink.

Which is not the end of the world but definitely less than desirable.

If you can overlook this shortcoming though, the Micro Minnie 2100BH might just be a good fit for you and your family.

• Sales of travel trailers — and RVs in general — have slumped since the industry's heyday during the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Amid this decline, Winnebago has unveiled a new cheap travel trailer: the $29,600 Access.
• Take a look inside the entry-level RV available November 2023.

Winnebago has unveiled its cheapest entry-level travel trailer yet in a bid to attract budget travelers amid the legacy RV maker's slump in sales. 

The RVing boom during the COVID-19 pandemic was a gold rush for companies like Winnebago. But these days, sales aren't looking as red hot anymore. Shipments for these homes on wheels have dropped 47.7% from 2023 compared to 2022, according to July data from the RV Industry Association . And looking at travel trailers specifically, shipments have slid 51.9% during that same period .

Unsurprisingly, companies like Winnebago have taken a hit.

In June, the RV maker's parent company — which also oversees Grand Design RV and Newmar — announced its third-quarter 2023 revenues of $900.8 million, an over 38% drop from the same period last year. 

"Recent years have been some of the highest demand in industry history, so some normalization of RV shipments is not unexpected," the company told Insider in an email.

Despite this, Winnebago says it is "optimistic about the long-term consumer engagement in the outdoors."

Amid its dip in sales, Winnebago unveiled a $150,000 refresh of its cheapest popular camper van in July.

And now, it's going the affordable route yet again with its latest product: the $29,600 Access.

Despite all the social media attention camper vans have received over the past few years, travel trailers still make up the majority of RV sales.

The Access was designed to be an economical option — think the Nissan Versa or Toyota Corolla of trailers.

Before this model, Winnebago's least expensive trailer was the $37,200 Macro Minnie .

The trailer can sleep up to eight people, according to the RV maker.

Eight is a recurring number — the trailer also comes with eight of what Winnebago calls its "premium amenities." This includes a 200-watt solar panel, WiFi systems, electric tongue jacks, and water tank heaters.

And inside, it looks as comfortable as any large travel trailer.

There are several floor plan options . All have a distinct queen bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and dinette. But while some floor plans have bunk beds, others just have a fold-out couch (or both). 

There's even an outdoor kitchen on some models.

And if you love modern luxuries, you'll love the porcelain toilet. It's certainly a step up from the plastic composting toilets many camper vans have.

The skylights bring in plenty of natural light while the interior and exterior LED lights brighten up the home at night.

And there's plenty of under-bed storage, which can double as a furry friend's little bedroom. 

The trailer will make its official debut at America's Largest RV Show in Hershey, Pennsylvania in September.

If you want an Access for yourself, you'll have to wait a few months. The trailer will go on sale in November 2023.

Cheapest Camper Options: Top 14 Trailers Under $25,000

No matter what type of camper or trailer you’re in the market for, you likely have many, many options. This is true even if you’re looking for the cheapest camper and have less than $25,000 in your budget. You can find numerous pre-loved versions in this price range—and potentially for significantly less. And there may even be a couple of brand-new options, depending on the size, make, model, and vintage.

While budget is often the top consideration, it’s also important to look at the condition as well as the weight, durability, and features. Your budget constraints can be both a pro and a con. For instance, you may not get the dream cheapest camper with every bell and whistle. But let’s face it, just about any camper can provide greater comfort, protection, and warmth than tossing your sleeping bag on the cold, hard ground. As a bonus, having a budget helps narrow down options, so your search isn’t so overwhelming. 

Pre-Loved Cheap Campers

One of the best ways to protect your budget is to look at pre-owned options. You can often find great deals on campers and trailers that are only a few years old or that have only been used only a handful of times. If you’re the DIY type, you can also find vintage options you can redo with your own style, flare, and preferences. Or, you can find ones that have been fully renovated with innovative styles and features you find appealing.

You may be able to find good options from dealers as well as online or in person from private sellers. Do, however, use caution and due diligence to ensure you are, in fact, getting a good deal and avoiding scams. It’s worth being cautious before making any purchase, especially for one as big as this.

Know what you’re getting into and check out reviews from dealers and online sellers. To protect yourself from online scams:

• For dealers (in person and online), check their BBB listing to ensure they have a business profile and how well they resolve issues.
• Examine the seller’s website if you’re buying online. Cross-check the information, such as contact info and location by calling, using Google Maps, or driving by. Use a website tracker to learn about the seller—especially if the deal looks too good to be true. This can help you research the seller’s authenticity and security.
• Buy with your credit card, which can be used to dispute if the sale doesn’t go through. Avoid wire transfers or cash unless you’re picking up the cheapest camper in person.
• Look for ads with multiple photos of the actual vehicle. Remember, photos can make a camper or trailer look way better than it does in person. If you’re out of town or out of state and can’t see the unit in person, ask for a Facetime interview or live walkthrough video.
• Check the camper’s value and read up on common problems or issues with the seller or particular campers or trailers. Online forums may be especially helpful.

The average price for a used camper varies (a lot) depending on the location, type, make, model, year, trim package, floorplan, and more. Like used cars, some models are highly sought after and can thus demand a higher price. Some are less well-known and can provide better options at a more affordable price. And unfortunately, campers and trailers have gained significant popularity since the pandemic, pushing prices up significantly in the last few years. 

Even if you’re looking for newer models, you still have options. Here are some popular affordable trailers that can sell for under $25,000 (again, depending on the year, model, and features):

• Keystone Springdale Comfort Travel Trailers from a well-establish manufacturer with a rep for value and quality builds that can be towed with a light-duty pickup or full-size SUV. 
• Gulfstream Ameri-Lite Super Lite Travel Trailers have developed a loyal following due to their aluminum and wood construction and light hitch weight that may even be pulled by a mid-sized SUV. If you wait to buy after peak season (into early fall), you may get in on a great end-of-season clearance sale for an even more affordable price. However, one common complaint is that their design is compact and may be less comfortable for taller adults. 
• Jayco Jay Flight SLX offers a lot of bang for your buck, easy towability, and consistency, resulting in many happy campers. While they’re smaller units, they do provide great features and options.
• Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro is another option that offers a lot of bang for your buck with style, amenities, and maneuverability. 
• Riverside Retro Travel Trailer : if you’re looking for a vintage look with more modern comforts, these eye-catching travel trailers won’t disappoint. Most have a cool 1950s flare and nostalgic curves without the concerns that come with a vintage vehicle.

• Take your time to find the best trailer for you at an affordable price. If you’re not absolutely sure you’re ready to buy, hold off on putting down a deposit that you may not be able to get back.
