Ultimate Guide To Disney Cruise Child Care and Kids Clubs

By Lisa Gilmore Leave a Comment

Ah, you’ve booked a cruise. You’re thinking of relaxing poolside, tasty beverages adorned with little umbrellas, exotic destinations, and child care.

disney fantasy cruise child care

The Disney Wish

Wait, what? Child care? Why would child care thoughts pop up in a cruise daydream?  Well, when you’re booking a Disney Cruise, why  wouldn’t world-class child care be one of your top vacation fantasies?

The name and brand of Disney has proven itself time and time again when it comes to family-friendly entertainment and family-friendly vacations, and on a Disney Cruise , these two concepts merge into a synergetic force, giving your family a vacation tailor-made for each individual as well as your whole family unit.

disney fantasy cruise child care

Mickey and Minnie on the Disney Wish!

That’s a big brag. Ok, let’s back it up by looking at the child care and kid’s clubs aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships to see what all they offer, and why your kids may never want to leave these custom-designed areas on the ships!

The Disney Cruise Line  fleet is comprised of  five world-class ships : the  Disney Magic , the  Disney Wonder , the  Disney Dream , the  Disney Fantasy,  and the newest ship in the fleet: the  Disney Wish .   The fleet will be joined by the  Disney Treasure in 2024, and Disney Cruise Line has also   recently purchased the Global Dream cruise ship .  Each ship has a classic cruise line theme from the glory days of those turn of the (20th) century transatlantic luxury cruiseliners, but with modern twists and amenities.

Disney Magic

All of the cruise ships provide youth and teen clubs to keep the kids entertained during the cruise. There’s even a nursery for those wee ones (for an extra fee). Each youth club is tailored to a different age range and includes different entertainment elements. And each ship has its own unique take on each space.

Yes, there’s even a spot for your baby! So, if you’re looking to book a massage or enjoy a nice dinner with your partner, or even take a nap (because we know you’d love an undisturbed 3-hour nap), you can take your tyke to the nursery.

disney fantasy cruise child care

“it’s a small world” Nursery

Once you get that spot secured, you can rest assured that your little one will have a fun, safe, and Disney-riffic time. This nursery spot is different than the kids clubs for the older children, there is a per-hour charge with a minimum of 1 hour. For additional children in the same family, the charge is a little less per hour for an additional child. And cancellation fees do apply if you cancel your arrangements without at least 4 hours notice.

There are two main rooms in the nursery. An activity room filled with perfect items for tiny hands, like horns to honk, wheels to spin, and buttons to push. The second room has the lights turned down for a calm setting, perfect for naptime.

The reservations are set for a capacity of four infants (those not yet walking) and 16 toddlers, depending on the number of counselors on hand. Parents are required to provide their own diapers, baby wipes, extra clothing/pajamas, pre-made bottles of milk/formula, baby food in jars, sippy cups, and security items such as blankets, pacifiers, or a favorite toy, and everything should be labeled with the child’s name — just like any daycare or child care facility at home. The nursery counselors use the chat feature in the DCL app to communicate any needs or situations to parents.

To book your child’s time in the nursery, you’ll want to make a reservation as soon as you can, since space is so limited. Depending on your Stateroom or your Castaway Club status, you can start booking his option between 75-120 days out. Or, check on Embarkation Day for any availability. Daily operating hours may vary, so check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator mobile app while on board the ship.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club (Ages 3 to 12):

When kids are checked into the Oceaneer Club, they enter a common hub area and other themed activity rooms split off from this main room.  A stage in the main area provides a platform for kids to express their creativity and storytelling, and is the centerpiece of the Club when Disney characters stop by to visit! There are large-screen TV showing movies that may feature a surprise Disney character interaction from time to time!

In the different rooms that split off from the main hub, kids can play in Andy’s Room (Wonder, Magic, Fantasy, Dream), Star Wars: Command Post (Fantasy), Marvel Superhero Academy (Wish, Wonder, Magic, Fantasy ), Pixie Hollow (Magic, Fantasy, Dream), Disney Infinity Game Room (Dream),  Star Wars: Millennium Falcon (Dream), Disney Junior (Wonder, Magic), Frozen Adventures (Wonder), Fairytale Hall (Wish), Walt Disney Imagineering Lab (Wish), Mickey & Minnie’s Captain’s Deck (Wish), or Star Wars: Cargo Bay  (Wish).

Disney’s Oceaneer Lab (Ages 3 to 12):

Is another spot for when your young crew is feeling creative. Your junior Imagineers can create in Animator’s Studio (Dream, Fantasy, Magic), Craft Studio (Dream, Fantasy, Magic), Media Room (Dream, Fantasy, Wonder), Playmation (Dream), The Wheelhouse (Dream, Fantasy), Sound Studio (Fantasy), Captain’s Workshop (Magic), Navigation Game Station (Magic), Marvel Avenger Academy  (Wonder),  Andy’s Room  (Wonder), Frozen Adventures (Wonder).

The Disney Wish includes an Imagineering Lab for kids!

The Club and Lab are connected with a secure, kids-only hallway, so children can go between the two areas freely. Be sure to pre-register your kids (through the Disney Cruise Line website) for access to these kids clubs before your cruise, so they can be that much closer to experiencing these fun spaces!

Edge (Ages 11-14)

Tweens have their own space aboard Disney ships. Located in different nooks and secret spots around the ships, these tween clubs provide kids with a chance to hang out with others their age, play games, have dance or karaoke parties, and engage in counselor-led activities, or just hang out and play video games. Their own little mini vacation within a vacation.

disney fantasy cruise child care

This tweens-only space is open from 9AM – midnight daily. Disney GETS how much the kids love technology and there is no shortage of it here! Tweens can play video games, sing karaoke, watch TV, and use the computer lab. The space is filled with couches for hanging out, arts and crafts tables, and flat-screen TVs. Counselors will keep the kids busy until midnight with activities, so you may never see your kid the whole cruise long!

Vibe (Ages 14-17)

While designated as a teens-only hangout, Vibe is chaperoned by some of the coolest counselors at sea, in a laid-back way that allows teens to feel as unrestricted and comfortable as they can possibly be.

disney fantasy cruise child care

This is a club built with teens in mind, where technology and social media reign supreme. Giant screens (complete with surround sound) for watching their favorite films or even concerts, plus so many fantastic selfie backgrounds!

“Bar” area

And it wouldn’t be a full club if it didn’t have refreshments like the adult night-clubs do (just non-alcoholic versions, like soda, coffee, and smoothies).

If you’re cruising on the Dream or Fantasy, Vibe extends to a private deck area outside! Poolside deck chairs and loungers offer sunbathing, and access to two wading pools, fountains, jets, and misters. Competitive teens can try their hands at ping pong and foosball.

Additional Spaces

You could argue that the whole ship offers something for everyone, but there are even more spaces beyond just designated kids clubs that are tailored for each unique demographic.

On the Disney Wish , tweens and teens can enjoy Hideaway , a unique “third teen/tween space” adjacent to Vibe. It’s a sort of flex space that can be opened to the teen club or closed off for tween-only events.

disney fantasy cruise child care

There is also  Hero Zone   on the Disney Wish, which isn’t kid-exclusive (it’s a great event space for the whole family), but it is conveniently close to the Vibe, which is a not-so-mini indoor sports hub. Kids can challenge each other in friendly competition with basketball, soccer, and a variety of table-top games, including Ping-Pong, air hockey, foosball, and shuffleboard.

Incredi-Games at Hero Zone

Chill Spa for Teens is located inside Senses Spa onboard the Disney Dream, Fantasy, and Magic , exclusive for cruisers ages 13 – 17.  This spa-within-a-spa has a unique space with treatment rooms, showers, and a separate seating area just for the teen clientele. There is also a menu of services tailor-made for their relaxation and pampering needs, including facials, massages, body treatments, manicures, and pedicures.

The Chill Spa does cost extra, so make sure your kiddos save up their allowances for this treatment!

Adults who want to stop by these locations just to get a peek at what the fun is all about can stop by during open house days/hours.  The kids clubs on Disney Cruise Line are pretty amazing, so you’ll want to stop by those open houses, even if you’re just a big kid at heart.

Disney Cruise Kids Clubs – What You Need to Know Updated 2024

Sharing is caring!

If you have children and are sailing on a Disney cruise you need to know about the amazing clubs they offer for kids.

The Disney Cruise Kids Club really is an amazing facility for all ages from 6 months to age 17.

There are different spaces on all of the Disney Cruise Ships for children of all ages.

I have sailed on many Disney Cruises with kids of all ages for over a decade. And they have all had an amazing time in the kid’s clubs.

Let’s explore what is available for children in the kid’s clubs on a Disney Cruise.

Note that there have been some recent changes to the age groups for each of the kids clubs and a change of policy about flexibility so make sure you read on to see the new rules .

disneycruisekidslcub

Overview of Disney Cruise Line’s Kids Club

Did you know that Disney is one of the very few cruise lines that have a facility to care for children under the age of 3?

One of the biggest reasons why Disney Cruise Line is the top-rated cruise line for families is because of the different kids clubs that they offer on all the ships in the fleet.

Apart from the “it’s a small world” nursery!, Disney Cruise kids clubs do not require reservations and are complimentary for guests.

The Disney Cruise Line provides structured youth activities and programs to meet the needs of both children and families. They are categorized by specific age groups and offer tailored spaces for each group.

Age-Specific Kids Clubs

All youth programs are led by specially trained Disney counselors to create highly immersive and magical clubs.

They facilitate age-appropriate fun and engaging activities in all of the clubs throughout your cruise vacation. Let’s dive into a complete list of Disney Cruise kids’ clubs!

How Long Can Kids Stay at Kids Club on a Disney Cruise?

Your children can stay as long as you want them to at the Kid’s Clubs. There is no limit on the time they can spend there.

If the kid’s clubs are open and your child is happy to be there – they can be there all day if they want to. And they may very well want to.

How Does the Disney Kids Club Work on a Cruise?

There are 5 different Kids Clubs on each Disney Ship :

  • It’s A Small World Nursery 6 months to 3 years – this is the only one with a fee
  • Oceaneer Club ages 3 to 10
  • Oceaneer Lab ages 3 to 10
  • Edge ages 11 to 14
  • Vibe ages 14 to 17

Note that effective on sailings that depart on or after December 21, 2023 the age range in Disney’ Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab changes from 3 to 12 to 3 to 10. With no exceptions.

During youth activities Open House times, guests of all ages are permitted in youth activity spaces, including Disney’s Oceaneer Club, Disney’s Oceaneer Lab, Edge and Vibe.

Guests with children 11 and 12 years old no longer need to complete youth activities registration as part of Online Check-in for these children.

This change is also applicable to Scuttle’s Cove which is the kids club for the younger ones at Castaway Cay. This has also changed from 3 to 12 years of age to 3 to 10 years of age .

It’s A Small World Nursery

“ It’s a small world ” nursery! is available on all of the Disney Cruise ships for children aged from 6 months to 3 years old.

It is the only childcare center on the Disney ships which is not provided free of charge, and you have to book ahead.

Even if you don’t use the Small World Nursery for many hours on your Disney Cruise, it can be great to get a break so you can take advantage of all that a Disney Cruise has for Adults .

The cast members provide nothing short of quality care and unmatched convenience.

While the programs at “it’s a small world” nursery! will vary depending on your child’s mood, activities like story time, movie time, and arts and crafts projects will keep them smiling and engaged. The nursery consists of three distinct areas:

  • Acclimation zone designed to help your little ones adjust to their new environment
  • Main play area that features a 3D facade of the “it’s a small world” attraction that is filled with interactive wonders
  • A separate quiet room for infants and toddlers to take naps.

disneycruiseitsasmallworldnursery

It’s a Small World Nursery that charges $4.50 for each half-hour, and you must book for at least one hour. Therefore, the minimum charge is $9 for the first child.

There is a discount for children who are in the same family as they are only charged $4 per hour. So the minimum charge is $8 per hour for the second child.

Advance reservations are required and can be made online:

  • Up to 120 days ahead for Concierge and Platinum Castaway Club Guests
  • Up to 105 days ahead for Gold Castaway Club Guests
  • Up to 90 days ahead for Silver Castaway Club Guests
  • Up to 75 days ahead for all other Guests

If you don’t make reservations online you can go to the Nursery to see if there is any additional time available.

Numbers are very strictly controlled as there needs to be the correct amount of Cast Members to care for the babies and infants.

If you need to cancel a reservation make sure that you do that at least 4 hours ahead of time or you will pay for all of the sessions that you have booked.

Is Food Provided in the It’s A Small World Nursery?

Juice and crackers are available for snacks for your child.

Lunch and dinner is no longer provided as it used to be prior to the shutdown.

Milk is not provided so you need to bring your own formula and bottles. If you have baby food you can bring this as well.

What Else Will My Child Need for the Nursery on a Disney Cruise?

babiesondisneycruise

You will need to provide diapers, wipes, and pull-ups for your child if they are not potty trained.

Pack a bag that is clearly labeled for your child with extra items such as a change of clothing, a special blanket, a pacifier, or perhaps a favorite toy.

Make sure that you label items because things do sometimes get lost.

If you think that your child may be anxious or not settle well in the Nursery, it can also be a good idea to go to the open house which is held every day.

This can help your child get used to the new environment and the counselors.

Make sure that you download the Navigator’s App as the Counsellors will use this to contact you if you need to pick up your child early.

Counselors can’t give any medication to your child, but there is a trained First Aid Cast Member in the Nursery at all times.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club

disneyoceaneerclub

Children aged between 3 and 12 have a choice between the Oceaneer Club and the Oceaneer Lab. On all of the Disney ships, the Oceaneers Club and Lab are on Deck 5 mid-ship.

The Oceaneer Club is themed for Disney fantasy and imagination, while the Oceaneer Lab is about learning while having fun.

They are separate spaces but are connected by a closed corridor. Your child can move from one space to the other via this corridor. If they need help, the Counsellor will accompany them!

From character-driven performances and special story-telling sessions to larger-than-life play areas and dress-up opportunities, your kids will be delighted to step into a world inhabited by some of their favorite characters.

The Oceaneer Club-themed play spaces include:

  • Andy’s Room
  • Disney Infinity Game Room
  • Pixie Hollow
  • Star Wars: Millennium Falcon
  • Star Wars: Command Post
  • Star Wars: Cargo Bay
  • Marvel Super Hero Academy
  • Disney Junior
  • Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck
  • Frozen Adventures
  • Fairytale Hall.

They also provide one-of-a-kind guided group activities to add more enchantment and fantasy:

  • Disney’s Once Upon a Time
  • Puzzle Playtime with Mickey and Friends
  • Jedi Training: Experience the Force
  • Woody’s Round Up
  • Doctor Strange: Defy the Dark Dimension
  • Thor Becoming Worthy
  • Mickey and the Roadster Racers
  • Disney Royal Academy
  • Join the Lion Guard
  • Captain America’s Super Hero 101
  • Walt Disney Imagineering Lab.

Disney Oceaneer’s Lab

You will probably find that your children want to spend every possible moment in the Kids Clubs! There are lots of organized activities, but if your children want to be independent that is fine too.

You can see the daily schedule for the day on the Navigator so you can plan if your child wants to do a particular activity.

The only times that you can spend time in the Oceaneers Clubs as a parent is during Open House. Look at your Navigators for when these times are scheduled.

disney fantasy cruise child care

From highly interactive spaces and games to crazy experiments and all kinds of activities, Disney Oceaneer’s Lab is dedicated to exploration and designed just for kids. The Disney Oceaneer’s Lab-themed play spaces include:

  • Animator’s Studio
  • Craft Studio
  • The Wheelhouse
  • Captain’s Workshop.

They also provide one-of-a-kind guided group activities to add more discovery and learning:

  • Get the Hook!
  • Piston Cup Challenge
  • Anyone Can Cook
  • Super Sloppy Science with Professor Make-O-Mess
  • What Goes Up
  • Zootopia Mystery Trek
  • Stitch’s Space Goo
  • Disney Pals Pajama Party.

Disney Cruise Edge

disneywonderedge

The Edge is for those aged 11 to 14.

Note that whilst there used to be an overlap for kids aged 11 and 12 who could choose to go either to Oceaneers or Edge, this is no longer then case. There is no flexibility with the ages groups.

My children have all formed some long-lasting friendships with people who they met in Disney Cruise Edge because of how the space on each ship is designed to appeal to that age group.

There is a lot of interaction with the Disney counselors for this age group, with an emphasis on smaller groups!

Disney Cruise Edge is designed for tweens to engage in cool and engaging daily activities such as:

  • That’s Hilarious
  • Heroes and Villains
  • Crowning of the Couch Potato
  • A Pirate’s Life for Me
  • Descendant’s Den DJ Spin Off.

From karaoke to video games, puzzles, challenges, and scavenger hunts to arts and crafts, there is something to appeal to all in this Disney Cruise Kids Club age group.

That’s not to mention that Disney characters also visit the Kids Clubs at certain times!

disney fantasy cruise child care

Disney Kids Clubs Vibe

disneywondervibe

Disney Kids Club Vibe is for teens aged from 14 to 17.

To access the Vibe on the Disney Fantasy and the Dream, teenagers have to have their own key card which is specially coded.

On the Disney Magic and the Wonder, the loft-inspired space is in the forward Funnel.

The Disney Fantasy and Dream have wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces that might even make you wish you were a teenager again!

Lastly, the different spaces on the Disney Dream Class ships are perfect for teens to hang out and make friends.

disney fantasy cruise child care

Vibe is a teen-exclusive haven where your kids can chill out, watch TV, listen to music, play group games, and more with cruisers their age. It is fully equipped with multiple flat-screen TVs, video games, board games, and tablets.

From catching some rays to day-and-night dance parties, Vibe also hosts a range of daily fun-filled activities that include:

  • Teen Download
  • Vibe Movie Makers

Is There a Kids Club on Castaway Cay?

Yes, Disney has thought of everything. There is even a Kids Club on their private island Castaway Cay .

When the ship docks in Castaway Cay they can still use the Kids Clubs on board.

However, there is also a place on the island where they can be looked after by the Disney Counsellors. This is a more convenient option if you are planning to spend some of the time with the kids on Castaway Cay, as you don’t have to go back to the ship to collect them.

Scuttle’s Cove is available to any child aged 3 to 10 who is registered with the Kids Clubs.

castawaycaydisneyprivateislandbanamas

What is there to do on Castaway Cay?

How To Register for the Disney Cruise Kids Clubs

For any of the kid’s clubs on a Disney Cruise, you do need to register your child.

The easiest way to do this is online. You will have the option to do this once you have paid in full for your cruise.

It does save some time if you do this prior to your cruise.

You can also do this at the terminal on embarkation day. The lines do tend to be quite long for this, but it can keep you occupied whilst you wait for your boarding party to be called.

theedgeondisneyfantasycruisship

You will fill out all the paperwork (it doesn’t take long). You will then get a Disney Cruise Line Youth Activities Magic Band for each child.

This has to be handed back at the end of the cruise or you will be charged.

You can keep the Magic Band as a souvenir if you want, but you will be charged $12.95.

disneykidsclubmagiband

When you get on board the ship there will be an open house.

You can tour all the kid’s clubs at this time – it is a great opportunity to see what is available.

Disney Cruise Lines has a downloadable PDF for younger cruisers so that they can know what to expect on the cruise.

It has some good information and includes some coloring pages that younger children may like.

Safety and Security Measures of the Kids Clubs

Parents can download the Navigator’s App and use it to directly contact the youth counselors at any given time.

Counselors cannot give any medication to your child, but there is a trained First Aid Cast Member in the Nursery at all times.

At Disney Cruise kids clubs, each child has a wristband for identification. These spaces are secure because only adults who you authorize can collect your child and they have to know the password.

Tips for Parents

To give your children the best Disney Cruise kids club experience, we’ve rounded up some of the most practical tips that parents can use in planning their perfect Disney Cruise vacation:

  • Familiarize yourself with the corresponding Disney Cruise kids club ages to find out the best options for your child
  • Explore the different clubs and attend the open houses with your children during their specified times
  • Make sure to provide diapers, wipes, and pull-ups if your child is not potty-trained
  • Use the family playtime hours (8 AM – 9 AM) in the nursery as an opportunity to spend quality time with your toddlers
  • Quiet spaces and movie rooms are always available if your kids need to take a break or a nap!

Disney Cruise Kids Clubs – Final Thoughts

disneycruisekidsclub

The Kid’s Clubs on all of the Disney Ships are excellent.

The environment is well designed, the Counsellors are wonderful and the mix between scheduled activities and free choice of things to do is just right.

Most kids will love it. And parents too!

You do have to be prepared so that your child may not want to spend much time with you! Other children, never really take to it and won’t want to spend time there.

It just depends on the individual.

My eldest, who is now an adult, never really wanted to spend time there. My two sons would spend all the time they possibly could in the kid’s clubs.

Be prepared for either scenario!

One thing which is particularly great about the kid’s clubs is that my sons have formed lasting friendships with people who they have met on the Disney Cruises. It can be a wonderful bonding experience.

Is a 2 year old able to play in Andy’s Room on the Fantasy, with his parents of course, during Open House? Is there an Open House for this room, guess is apart of Oceaneers Club, everyday? Many thanks!

Sunday 14th of January 2024

Yes you can take your 2 year old to the Open House. They are usually scheduled every day and you will find out the time on your Navigator App

Sunday 23rd of July 2023

This may seem a silly question but we're doing our first cruise soon and my child will be 3 1/2. She's worried about how she asks me to come and get her if she's not having fun or she misses me? Do you know what the process is for them letting parents know that a kid wants/needs to be collected? I don't want to be going back every 1/2 hour to check she's ok, but I also want to be able to tell her the plan to reassure her that she won't be stuck there if she's not feeling comfortable

Wednesday 26th of July 2023

Don't worry! The Cast Members at the Kids Club are very aware that this can happen. You will be contacted by text if they need to collect here. You can also spend some time with her at the Open Houses that they have so that she feels more comfortable.

Friday 9th of June 2023

I was wondering what, if any, separation there is in the younger (3 to 12 yr.) club space? We are planning a cruise next year and my daughter will be 4. I want her to have fun in the club space, but if she is around 9, 10, 11, year olds, I can foresee there being possible issues, given the age and size gap. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sunday 11th of June 2023

The are different spaces for each age Group so all kids are with the same age Groups. On all the ships there is a corridor connecting the spaces, but this is more for the older children to use so they can go between the different areas if they want. At 4 years old she would be with her own age Group. Disney Kids Clubs really are the best at sea.

Tuesday 24th of January 2023

Just got off magic. They do not feed your kids anything in the kids club. FYI.

Wednesday 25th of January 2023

@Sarah, do you know if they just flat don’t allow eating and drinking there or can I drop off quick food instead of having to pull him out? Also, my son doesn’t have a cell phone. Is there a way for kids to communicate with their parents besides giving them their own device with the navigator app?

Going on the Wonder to Alaska in May for 7 days as my first cruise with a 10 year old and 8 month infant

Thursday 12th of January 2023

Thanks for this post. My only question… Is eating at the kids club for lunch and dinner available every day? I thought I read elsewhere that it was only select days.

Thanks for all the other info. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Monday 16th of January 2023

I don't believe that lunch and dinner in the Kids Clubs is an option at the moment.

Youth clubs and childcare aboard the Disney Fantasy

Youth clubs and childcare aboard the Disney Fantasy

All Disney Cruise Line ships not only have childcare available on board, but also clubs that are exclusive for kids, tweens, and teenagers.

The Disney Fantasy has five options: Disney’s Oceaneer Club, Oceaneer Lab, Edge, Vibe, and “it’s a small world” nursery!

If adults need a break or want to attend an adult-exclusive experience, sending their kid(s) to one of the following clubs or nursery available is a great option.

Below is everything you need to know about each facility.

In this article

One of our favorite things about cruising with Disney Cruise Line is that so many of the amenities are covered in the price, and that includes most of the Youth and Teen Clubs aboard the ship.

In fact, the only Youth Club that charges a fee or requires reservations is the “it’s a small world” nursery, which is for children under three.

All of the clubs are well-themed and packed with a variety of age-appropriate activities.

Want to check them out?

Embarkation day is a great day to explore all that they have to offer. It’s also a fun way to get kids that are a little bit nervous about trying them an opportunity to explore with mom and dad.

Other Important Information

Registration & checking in.

Children can be  pre-registered  for both the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab or they can be registered aboard the ship as well.

When boarding the ship on Embarkation Day, children and parents are required to check in and fill out final paperwork at the front desk at the Club or Lab.

At this time, parents can tour each club and meet the trained counselors. Kids will also get a Disney Cruise Line Youth Activities wristband, which gives them access to both the Club and Lab.

On select days, children can have lunch and dinner at both the Club and Lab. Activities are still available during meals for those who don’t want to dine.

For parents attending the ship’s second dinner seating, they can take advantage of the Dine and Play program. This allows kids to have their meals early and to be escorted by counselors to the clubs.

If parents choose to participate, they should let their server know when arriving at their dining destination.

CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Children with special needs are welcome at both the Club and the Lab.

The Youth Activity programs are available to all children, but they must be fully toilet-trained, able to individually participate in the counselor-to-child ratio groups, and interact socially and comfortably with anyone their own age and physical size.

One-on-one counselor care, a counselor with specialty training, or counselor-assisted medical attention isn’t provided. If children can self-address their own medical needs, they can store medical supplies at the Youth Activities desk.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES OPEN HOUSE

This open house is exactly what is sounds like and allows guests of all ages to experience a variety of activities at the Club and the Lab.

The open house also serves ass an opportunity for kids who don’t meet age requirements or aren’t fully toilet-trained and for adults to explore the facilities.

Both centers will still be open for anyone who wants to utilize childcare.

TEENS & TWEENS CLUBS

Like the kids clubs, there are also two places for both teens and tweens to hang out and have fun, all while meeting new people. They are:

Deck : 13 Ages : 11 to 14

At Edge, tweens can watch movie, play games, do arts and crafts, and enjoy their own special hangout, where they can also meet other kids of the same age.

Edge is open daily from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Be sure to check the Personal Navigator newsletter or Disney Cruise Line Navigator mobile app while onboard for exact hours and activity dates and times.

On Fantasy, Edge is an inviting space for tweens with movable modular furniture and cushy beanbags that have fun spaces like a dance floor, a karaoke spot, a gaming area with tablets, photo booths, and 2 extra-large LCD screens that are synced together for an expansive viewing experience.

There are also a variety of free-form and structured activities, including taking photos at the selfie wall, doing scavenger hunts, singing karaoke, and more. The following activities are subject to change.

  • That’s Hilarious : Inspired by Disney Channel’s  So Random! , tweens will learn improv and scene interaction basics to create their own comedy show using special effects, costumes, and camera tricks. They’ll even perform their show live in the club.
  • Heroes and Villains : Teams will compete to solve clues and complete challenges across the ship in order to win a prize.

There are video and virtual-reality games, TVs for movies, board games, and even tablets available. Teens can even enjoy dance parities, karaoke competitions, and games promoting group interaction.

Disney Fantasy – It’s a Small World Nursery & Baby Club

Disney Fantasy It's a Small World Nursery & Baby Club

Disney Fantasy It’s a Small World Nursery… You’ll want it to be a small world after all 🙂

One of the facilities I was most interested to check out on our Disney Fantasy cruise , was the It’s a Small World Nursery . Not every family resort or cruise offers infant and baby care , but if they do it’s usually pretty good. Disney Cruise Line ‘s Disney Fantasy was no exception.

It’s not free, like at Beaches Turks & Caicos , but it’s not a full day rate like at Club Med . In fact, the pay-as-you-go rate of $9.00 US per hour is incredibly reasonable. Bub couldn’t wait to go!

disney fantasy it's a small world nursery baby club lobby

The Right Age & Stage

Since he was just shy of his third birthday, I was a little worried that he would find the area a little too babyish. Not the case! He really seemed to enjoy the smaller scale of Small World. When his dad went to pick him up after an hour, he didn’t want to leave…

A good sign, I think!

We let him stay for another hour 😉

disney fantasy it's a small world nursery play area

It’s a Small World Nursery’s Policies & Procedures:

I spoke with Manda, one of the lovely staff members, about the policies that It’s a Small World Nursery follows. For infants aged 14mos. and younger, the ratio of staff to babies is 1-4. For older babies aged 14mos. and up, the ratio is 1-6. There is usually a staff of 8 standing by, but they can always call someone in if things get busy.

On the Disney Dream , the maximum number of babies they could manage was 28. Manda anticipated the same for the Disney Fantasy . Reservations are recommended, but they take walk-ins as capacity allows.

Procedures & Pricing

As with the Oceaneer Club and Lab , you pre-register your kids online. Check under “My Cruise Plans” in your online cruise profile for the option for registering. Wristbands are not given for the little ones.

The It’s a Small World Nursery is open from 9am to 11pm. Sometimes it opens as early as 7am. They offer open house time during the first two at-sea days.

The fee is $4.50 US for 30 minutes or $9/hour for your first child. Then, it is $4 for 30 minutes or $8/hour for every additional child. Notify them at least 4 hours in advance if you need to cancel or you will be charged the the full amount of your reservation.

disney fantasy it's a small world nursery nap area

Dropping Off…

When dropping off your baby, you leave their food and/or bottles, diapers and wipes, and napping instructions. If your little is not exactly thrilled with being left, the staff will comfort and distract. Manda advised that most usually calm down within a few minutes. However, they page parents for further instructions if the baby cannot be comforted after 15 minutes. If your little cannot be comforted after 30 minutes, the staff will page you to come pick them up.

Illness or Injury

If your baby or toddler falls down and goes boom while in the Disney Fantasy It’s a Small World Nursery , staff will administer ice packs and/or band-aids, and call you straight away. Usually the children are fine to stay but the staff leaves that decision to your discretion.

If a “protein spill” happens (Disney-speak for vomit!) they will call to come pick up your child right away. They can return to the nursery once you’ve received clearance from the medical team. They need to determine if the “protein spill” was a one-time upset stomach, or a virus that could affect the staff and other attendees of the nursery.

disney fantasy it's a small world nursery baby club

How much does It’s a Small World Nursery cost?

The cost of the It’s a Small World Nursery is $9/hour. This is remarkably reasonable, I think, considering the level of care and quality of the surroundings. It’s spotless, and the various zones are so nicely decorated and soothing (and clutter-free). It makes me wish our daycares at home could maintain that level of cleanliness and tidiness.

One thing I noticed about the staff at It’s a Small World (and most of the kids’ staff, actually) is that they’re mostly Brits, Aussies, and Kiwis. I think it’s the accent (think Mary Poppins) that inspires extra confidence in the child care department.

Feeling Confident As a Parent

I wasn’t able to utilize baby and kids clubs at resorts until my firstborn was past the age of two. But that’s me and my helicopter parent tendencies, not lack of confidence in any of the facilities.B ub did great at FDR Resort and his vacation nanny in Jamaica when he was 16mos. But my mother-in-law was also there with him. And I recognize that other (most?) parents are not as hover-y as I am.

Plus, having more kids often means A) you’re more relaxed about leaving them in the care of others; and B) you’re in more need of a break! Knowing there are resorts and cruises like Disney Cruise Line that offer exemplary infant and toddler care is a real bonus for parents who just need some grown-up time.

Overview of it’s a small world nursery

Hours of operation: varies daily and by ship, opens as early as 8am and closes as late at 12 am. (they will open earlier if you have an excursion that begins before 8am).

it’s a small world nursery (intentionally lowercase) is the onboard childcare facility for infants and toddlers on Disney Cruise Line ships. The nursery is staffed by trained childcare professionals who provide a safe and fun environment for children to play and learn while parents enjoy some time to themselves. So far for us, each ship has had at least one cast member from the UK, giving us the added comfort of pretending she is a Gen Z Mary Poppins.

On the first day of the cruise, the nursery hosts an open house where parents can enter into the area to play WITH their child. My wife loves this option because it helps the babies get used to the environment while in the comfort of their parent’s presence. Then, the baby recognizes the environment and is excited to continue exploring at drop off. We use the nursery every day we are on the ship because it provides open space and developmentally appropriate toys for our son. It’s tough to explore the small staterooms, and our toy options are usually limited. Plus, the shows may be too loud or overstimulating, and dinner can be downright boring.

The dining staff was accomodating, but he’d probably be more comfortable in a crib in the dimly lit nursery.

On the 4 original Disney Cruise ships (Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Magic, and Disney Wonder), the nursery’s theme is inspired (obviously) by the It’s a Small World ride at the Disney Parks. It has three distinct areas: an acclimation area (to get babies adjusted to the new environment), a play area, and a napping area. The play area has a 3D façade based on the Small World ride with interactive surprises for the kids. For the sanity of the cast members, the song is not on repeat.

On the new Disney Wish, the small world theming is maintained but supplemented by stylized versions of Marvel, Disney, and Pixar characters inspired by animator Mary Blair. The nursery is located on deck 5 for the original ships. On the Disney Wish, all of the youth activities areas have been moved to Deck 2 to improve traffic flow.

As I mentioned, the name is always lowercase. I guess that’s to attract shorter cruise guests. it’s a small world! nursery also uses an exclamation point right in the middle of the word, but that would look ridiculous, and I would feel like I was yelling at you at random intervals, so I’ll stick to not punctuating it. They named it that way because the rides at Disneyland and Disney World have the exclamation point! (See it’s weird if I start punctuating it like that!)

Age, Cost, and other Preliminaries

The it's a small world nursery is available for children ages 6 months to 3 years old (or one year on some longer cruises, which is also the minimum age for babies on the respective itineraries). unlike the youth activities, the it’s a small world nursery does come with an additional cost., the cost is: ·  $9 per hour for the first child ·  $8 per hour for each additional child in the same family..

If you need to cancel a reservation, do so 4 hours in advance for no charge. If you no-show for a reservation, you’ll be charged full price. If you cancel within 4 hours, you’ll be charged half price. However, we missed a couple of reservations, and I don’t think they charged us. The rate is so cheap compared to everything else on the boat, that we may not have noticed.

Additionally, children must have no signs of illness to be admitted to the nursery. If your child becomes ill or otherwise inconsolable, the cast members will contact you via the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App, so you’ll need to keep your phone with you. Then, you’ll have to be cleared by the medical team before your baby can return. This happened when our little guy had a “protein spill,” luckily for us, it was just an inordinate amount of spit up, no fever, and he was cleared to return later that day.

The nursery cast members will also use the app to notify you of when your nursery reservation is upcoming and when it is about to end.

The it’s a small world nursery is welcoming of children with special needs, but they are not specifically trained for special needs care and cannot provide a one-to-one ratio.

A baby wearing a onesie that looks like it has a bowtie, sunglasses, and watch. Toddler on a Disney Cruise.

There’s no formal night at the it’s a small world nursery, but he was ready just in case

Reservations for it’s a small world are recommended and can be made online through the app (before your cruise) or onboard the ship (in person or by stateroom phone).

To ensure you get the most out of your Disney Cruise with infants and toddlers, it's important to make reservations for the it's a small world nursery prior to your cruise. Reservations can be made online or onboard the ship, but it's recommended to book as early as possible to secure your preferred times.

Here’s the earliest you can book before your cruise, based on your Castaway Club or Concierge level:

Up to 130 days ahead for concierge and pearl castaway club guests, up to 120 days ahead for platinum castaway club guests, up to 105 days ahead for gold castaway club guests, up to 90 days ahead for silver castaway club guests, up to 75 days ahead for all other guests.

You’re currently allowed to book up to 10 hours prior to boarding. IMPORTANT: This DOES NOT MEAN you only get 10 hours during your cruise. The rest of your booking (as many hours as you want) can be done once you board the ship. Therefore, IT’S REALLY IMPORTANT to go directly to it’s a small world once you board the boat to secure the rest of the nursery times you want . On most cruises, reservations will fill up, especially for days at sea.

Pro Second Dad to the Right Tip : Have a plan beforehand of what you want, so that you can rush through the booking process both beforehand and once onboard. Again, GO DIRECTLY THERE when you get onboard, or else the other parents will take all the good spots. Get more reservations than you think you’ll need. You can always cancel them later.

Another Tip: If you’re comfortable with it, you can leave your child on the ship when you’re in port. If you have a booked excursion, you get a guaranteed reservation for the nursery even if it’s full. You can also leave your child at the nursery during Castaway Cay, but there is no guaranteed reservation. However, if you leave the boat, you must have your phone connected to a network to receive calls, in case of emergency. It will be a real phone call, not through the app, if you are off of the ship.

We found it significantly easier and safer to climb the Dunn River Falls without an infant

Final Pro Tip: If you discover an adult activity you want to participate in that you didn’t schedule for, drop by the nursery. If they aren’t full or closed, they’ll take your cute bundle of perfection so that you can go play Star Wars Trivia.

What to Expect During Drop-off and Pick-Up

When dropping off your child at the it's a small world nursery, you will need to provide their MagicBand (which the staff will give you) to check them in. You will also need to provide any necessary items such as diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes. The nursery staff will use the Disney Cruise Navigator App if they need to contact you during your child's stay. Finally, you will need to fill out detailed instructions on feeding times, snack choices, and everything you brought with you. This is tedious (but understandable), so make sure you give yourself a couple of minutes before your scheduled activity.

disney fantasy cruise child care

Our buddy playing at it’s a small world nursery. He colored his eyebrows for April Fools.

Another note about drop off: The smaller ships (Wonder and Magic) have limited room for you to leave your stroller. Aboard the Magic last month, they originally wouldn’t let us leave our strollers, but then changed their minds later in the week. If your particular sailing doesn’t allow strollers, it’s probably easier to carry your child to the nursery than walk your stroller back to your stateroom after drop off.

When picking up your child, you will need to present your Key to the World card and sign them out. Only guests you authorize can pick up your child. The nursery staff will provide you with a report of your child's activities and any important information you need to know.

Pro Tip: DO NOT forget to return the Magic Band to the nursery at the end of your cruise. It will refund you the $20 they charged you at the beginning of the trip. The Magic Band is cool, but it won’t work in the parks, so it’s not worth it.

Activities and amenities offered in the nursery

The it's a small world nursery on Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of activities and amenities to keep your little ones happy. Most of the activities are unscheduled and based on your child’s inclinations and mood. These activities and amenities include age-appropriate toys and games, activities such as crafts, movies, scheduled feeding, and napping (at your request or the baby’s request). The nursery also hosts special events such as story time and character visits. My little dude was apparently not a fan of Mickey. Mickey is usually his favorite, so I can only assume it’s because he was hoping the special guest was me.

Our little guy has already sailed twice for a total of 12 nights, and we have been blown away by how awesome the staff is. They are professional and careful, focused on safety within the room as well as during pick up. They are also amazingly friendly and engaged with the babies. If you ride the Disney Fantasy, say hello to Gabby for us. She was amazing. They were quick to contact us if we were needed, as well as helpful to remind us of our scheduled times. Most importantly, our son absolutely loved it there.

I hope your baby loves it there, too. And I hope these tips and guidelines make the process faster and less stressful for you, so that you can spend more time at that Silent DJ party.

Everything You Need to Know About Disney Cruise Line’s Kids Clubs

disney fantasy cruise child care

Fulfilling the needs of children and families during their precious vacations is one of the things that Disney does best, and Disney Cruise Line is no exception.

Children may choose to participate in organized programs in the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab or they can enjoy a variety of activities that are available throughout the day in other areas of the ship. Slipping and sliding down the chute into Mickey’s Pool, splashing and having fun in the sun in Goofy’s Family Pool, stretching in a morning workout at Goofy’s Family Fitness, family line dancing, and ping pong are just some of the available physical activities that you’ll find aboard Disney’s ships. For more relaxing entertainment, watch a first-run Disney movie in one of the theatres, play a board game, or learn how to draw a Disney character. Play video games or see some of the live entertainment shows featuring some of Disney’s most beloved characters; the fun is yours to discover aboard one of the Disney Cruise Line ships. Throughout the day, Disney characters appear in several locations around the ship to meet and greet the little cruisers (and big ones, too!). The Oceaneer Club and the Oceaneer Lab offer age-specific programs with lots of fun, interesting hands-on activities to keep the younger set entertained. Some parents say that they hardly see their kids at all during their cruise.

  • Vibe (ages 14-17)
  • The Hideaway (Teens & Tweens; 1820 Society )

Except for Embarkation Day, the Oceaneer Club and Lab operating hours are typically 9:00 am to midnight or 1:00 am, but they can vary, so you’ll want to check for those details on your specific cruise. Fewer activities are scheduled, and hours can be shorter when the ship is in port. Later in the evening, mats are provided for younger children whose parents may be out past the little one’s bedtime.

disney fantasy cruise child care

Checking Kids In and Out

Parents should plan on checking in their kids for the programs on Embarkation Day. Kids don’t have to participate then, but that’s the best time to complete the paperwork, get your child’s ID bracelet, and learn the check-in/check-out system. This can be done at the port before you even board the ship.  Check the Disney Cruise Line app for check-in times once you’re onboard. Parents can also receive messages using the DCL app on their mobile devices. The clubs will use these to contact parents if needed.

All children must wear their wristband, which contains vital information such as their name, age group, stateroom number, pertinent medical information, and whether or not they have parental permission to sign themselves out of the clubs on their own – this privilege is only available to kids ages 8 and older; younger kids are not able to sign themselves out. Because of the computer chip in the bands, counselors can check in a computer at any given time and know exactly where a child is. The child will tap their band to a scanner at the club’s entrance when checking in and out. This pulls up their information in the computer for the counselors. A password will be required by the adult checking the children out.

Children with special needs are welcome; simply give the Oceaneer Club or Lab advance notice so that they can schedule an extra counselor if need be. Some counselors know sign language and can assist children who are hearing impaired. With cast members from over 50 countries worldwide, many foreign language needs can also be handled.

“it’s a small world” NURSERY   (6 months – 3 years) | Dream, Fantasy, Magic, Wish, and Wonder

disney fantasy cruise child care

This group babysitting center is specifically designed for little ones ages six months to 3 years of age. This is the only option open to parents of the little ones, as there is no in-room babysitting service on the ship. Unlike the planned programs for the older children, the nursery has a per-hour charge with a minimum of 1 hour. For additional children in the same family, the charge is a little less per hour for an additional child. Cancellations can be made without penalty up to 4 hours in advance.

The theming is inspired by the Disneyland Resort’s classic attraction and original artwork by Mary Blair.  The floor even has a blue “river” running down the middle.  The nursery is filled with hands-on features that will keep the kids busy for hours, such as horns to honk, wheels to spin, and buttons to press. Kids will enjoy the crafts, books, and games and love sitting at tables that are just their size.  There is a second room that is kept dimly lit and calm, perfect for naptime.

There are a maximum of four infants (those not yet walking) and 16 toddlers allowed, depending on the number of counselors on hand. Parents are required to provide their own diapers/Pull-Ups, baby wipes, extra clothing/pajamas, pre-made bottles of milk/formula labeled with the child’s name, baby food in jars, sippy cups, and security items such as blankets, pacifiers, or a favorite toy. Parents will need to keep a close eye on the chat feature in the DCL app so they can be reached in case of a medical or emotional need. Caregivers are not qualified to administer medication, but a trained CPR/First Aid crew member is present at all times.

“it’s a small world” Nursery must be reserved in advance. 10 hours’ worth of reservations can be made online up to:

  • 120 days in advance for Concierge and Platinum Castaway Club Guests
  • 105 days in advance for Gold Castaway Club Guests
  • 90 days in advance for Silver Castaway Club Guests
  • 75 days in advance for First-Time Cruisers

You can also make or alter your reservations during the open house on Embarkation Day on a first-come, first-served basis. Because space is extremely limited, book your child’s nursery stay as soon as possible. Additional times may be added later based on availability.

Each day from 8:00 – 9:00 am, parents may join their toddlers in the nursery for family playtime. This may be a good way to introduce nervous children to their new surroundings.

OCEANEER CLUB   (ages 3-10) | Dream, Fantasy, Magic, Wish, and Wonder

disney fantasy cruise child care

The Oceaneer Club is the place where your kids will want to spend all their time on a Disney Cruise. The fantastical decor will transport them to the wonderful world of fairies, monsters, toys, and undersea journeys. The Club and Lab are connected with a secure, kids-only hallway, so children can go between the two areas freely.

The Club is set up with a central rotunda as the hub, and the other rooms branch off from there. The rotunda’s ceiling is covered with constellations of Disney characters. A stage allows kids to express their creativity and storytelling, plus is the perfect place to host the Disney characters when they visit! A large-screen plasma TV show movies and occasionally allows Crush the turtle to come to visit and chat with the kids!

There are activities featuring some of your favorite Disney characters, including friends from Disney Junior . Kids can become doctors at Doc McStuffins ‘ Toy Hospital, build cars during Mickey Mouse and the Roadster Racers, have a tea party while they Fancy It Yourself with Fancy Nancy , or show their moves at the Dancelvania Dance Party with Vampirina .

The Oceaneer Club on the Disney Wish is going to be a bit different from the other ships. Firstly, parents will be able to check their children in from the Grand Hall on deck 3 and then send them “down the rabbit hole” on a twisting slide that lands directly and securely into the central hub… how cool is that?! This space on the Disney Wish will include Marvel Super Hero Academy – a high-tech facility for training the next generation of heroes; Fairytale Hall – a royal trio of activity rooms inspired by Rapunzel, Belle, and  Frozen  friends; and Walt Disney Imagineering Lab – a unique opportunity for kids to discover the secrets of world-renowned Disney Imagineers. Rounding out Disney’s Oceaneer Club are two brand-new spaces –  Star Wars : Cargo Bay and Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck . You can learn more and see photos of each of the spaces on our Disney Wish page .

SCUTTLE’S COVE (ages 3-12)

On Castaway Cay , a special kid’s play area called Scuttle’s Cove is open from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. On this day, kids can ONLY be checked into the club at Scuttle’s Cove – there is no onboard program until after 4:00 pm. Plenty of fun activities are planned, including a “dig” and treasure hunt. Parents can be assured that Scuttle’s Cove is not near the water and that the counselors will not take kids checked into the program on Castaway Cay. Lunch will be served at Scuttle’s Cove as well. Parents and children must check in and out at the desk and their security is of the utmost importance here.

OCEANEER LAB   (ages 3-10) | Dream, Fantasy, and Magic

Imagination rules at this play space that’s dedicated to exploration, where children   are invited to play inventive games, perform wacky experiments, and participate in all kinds of educational activities amid distinctly themed rooms.

Disney’s Oceaneer Lab will take kids on a great adventure full of maps, constellations, and even a stage for all of their greatest performances! This stage is one of the main gathering spaces in the Lab – perfect for kids to listen to stories and act out their own. Individual computer stations will allow them to enjoy interactive games. Disney movies will be shown on the 103-inch plasma TV; animated characters will come to life on this screen and interact with the kids. The main room is also the beginning of a ship-wide adventure where kids will become explorers and hunt for clues. On ships where both are present, the Club and Lab are connected with a secure, kids-only hallway, so children can go between the two areas freely.

EDGE   (ages 11-14) | Dream, Fantasy, Magic, Wish, and Wonder

Edge is the “tween” club – only kids ages 11 – 14 can enter! It has a great location on Deck 13 inside the Forward Funnel on the Dream and Fantasy. On the Magic and Wonder, it is located on Deck 9, Midship.  Edge is decorated in bright colors and retro decor.

Dream and Fantasy

Disney knows how much kids love technology, and Edge is full of it!  There are individual computer stations with notebook computers available to play games and access a special onboard social media application designed just for them. With this application, kids can leave each other messages and post photos and videos for their new onboard friends.

Kids can create their own photo postcards and star in video karaoke using green-screen technology.

One whole wall of the club is an 18-foot long, 5-foot tall video wall, perfect for video games and watching movies. This video wall can be used as one large screen or separated into any combination of individual screens.

Ready for a dance party at any time, there is a lighted dance floor with colored lights on the ceiling. A 10-foot video screen comes down from the ceiling to provide music video backgrounds and lighting effects.

One of the great things about Edge’s location in the funnel is the views of the pool decks below. The windows are made so that kids can see out, but guests on the decks can’t see in. Another cool feature is that the AquaDuck water coaster winds through the funnel and three portholes in Edge give silhouetted views of the riders as they zip through the funnel.

disney fantasy cruise child care

Magic and Wonder:

Located on Deck 9 midship, Edge is a tweens-only space open from 9:00 am – midnight daily.

Tweens can play video games, sing karaoke, watch TV, and use the computer lab. The space is filled with couches for hanging out, arts and crafts tables, and flat-screen TVs. Counselors will keep the kids busy until midnight with activities such as:

  • Pizza Perfection Answer trivia questions to win pizza toppings and create the perfect pizza. After the game is over, the pizzas are cooked and shared by all.
  • Road Tour Embark on a jammin’ scavenger hunt throughout the ship as you work to gather stamps to fill your rock ‘n’ roll passport by solving music-themed brain teasers and puzzles.
  • A Pirate’s Life for Me Arrr you pirate enough? Compete in physical challenges and answer trivia questions about ye olde time scalawags and buccaneers in this game to see who will claim the infamous pearl.

disney fantasy cruise child care

At Edge, tweens ages 11 to 14 will have fun, make friends and play games in a bright, colorful hangout inspired by a chic New York City loft. A faux-grass picnic area and graphic art displays called “photo walls” will provide ample opportunities for tweens to capture cool, shareable vacation pics that will be the envy of their friends back home.

Located on deck 5, the exclusive entrance to Edge will be hidden behind a framed piece of art that reimagines world-famous paintings in a pop art-inspired compilation of Disney characters, including Minnie as the ‘Girl with the Pearl Earring’ and Donald as Salvador Dali.

VIBE   (ages 14-17) | Dream, Fantasy, Magic, Wish, and Wonder

Vibe is exclusively for teens ages 14-17. Located on Deck 5 forward on the Dream and Fantasy and Deck 11 midship on the Magic, this 9,000 square-foot club is hip yet casual. All the furniture is modular, allowing teens to move it around and lounge wherever they want.

Technology reigns at Vibe, and the central area of the space is a media room, complete with a 103-inch LCD screen with digital surround sound, perfect for watching movies and playing video games. Computer stations allow access to a special onboard social media application designed just for them. With this application, kids can leave each other messages and post photos and videos for their new onboard friends.

The room’s walls are lined with built-in oval seats made to look like portholes. These nooks are perfect for hanging out and watching TV, reading, or listening to music.

A dance club area lets teens test out their DJ skills, spinning and mixing tracks for the dance party. The floor is lit with colorful lights and features a video wall. A stage plays host to talent shows, karaoke contests, and dance competitions.

Just like the adult clubs, Vibe offers a fountain bar serving non-alcoholic drinks, such as soda, juice, smoothies, and coffee drinks.

On the Dream and Fantasy, the fun doesn’t stop inside the club. A private deck area outside means teens never have to leave!  Chairs and loungers are great for sunbathing, and when the sun gets too hot, there are two wading pools, fountains, jets, and misters to help cool you down. If sunbathing isn’t your thing, ping pong and foosball are available as well.

Disney Wonder:

Vibe , the club for teens 14-17, is designed to look like a hip, loft apartment/coffee shop. Couches, chairs, and a dance floor come together to create an environment perfect for this age group, so the teenagers have a place to meet, have some fun and call their own. There’s one computer station found here that’s exclusive to the use of the teens. Alcohol-free drinks will be available at the ‘bar’, and there is plenty of seating for talking and socializing. Teen fun focuses on parties, pizza, dancing, karaoke…all the things teens like to do. Teens also have special activities created just for them.  Highlights include:

  • Teen Dance Parties Dance the night away to the hottest pop hits in an exclusive teen-only dance party!
  • Teen Download What does your Disney cruise have in store for you? Through the use of the latest media technology, such as interactive web pages and videos, interact with other teens and counselors, and design your very own dream vacation filled with activities, games, Port Adventures, and downtime.
  • Karaoke Discover your inner rock star when you take the stage, grab a microphone, and sing along with your favorite tunes.

Disney Wish

At Vibe on the Disney Wish, teens ages 14 to 17 can meet new friends, watch movies, play games and participate in entertaining activities created just for them. Inspired by a Parisian artists’ loft, this stylish space features classic architectural elements with an electric retro twist, with vibrant neon signs and funky pop art. Combine those with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean, and every angle in Vibe will offer a selfie-worthy backdrop for the trendiest teens on the high seas.

THE HIDEAWAY  (tweens & teens; 1820 Society) | Wish

For the first time on a Disney ship, the Disney Wish features a third retreat for tweens and teens: The Hideaway. This hip, new hangout offers older kids and young adults another place to relax, sip a smoothie, listen to music, and more in a posh setting complete with a dance floor and DJ booth – perfect for karaoke contests and dance competitions.

The Hideaway is adorned in a vibrant color palette, retro-inspired design details, a stylized “Hiya, pal” mural, and disco ball lights. Adjacent to Vibe, this flexible venue can be opened to the teen club, closed off for tween activities, and even reserved especially for guests ages 18 to 20.

CHILL SPA  (ages 13-17) | Dream, Fantasy, and Magic

Senses Spa  isn’t just for adults! Chill Spa for Teens is located inside Senses Spa – Deck 11 on the Dream and Fantasy and Deck 9 on the Magic. Guests ages 13 – 17 have their own space with two treatment rooms with showers and a separate seating area just for the teen guests. Special spa treatments have been designed just for them, including facials, massages, body treatments, manicures, and pedicures.  Some highlights are:

  • Fabulously Fruity Facial – An organic selection of fresh fruits moisturizes your skin.
  • Hot Chocolate Wrap – After a massage, enjoy a soothing body wrap with antioxidants.
  • Tantastic Body Bronzer – Your skin is nourished with a hydrating body bronzer.
  • Surfer’s Scrub – This exfoliating treatment uses fresh lime, lemon, and ginger.
  • Ice Cream Manicure and Pedicure – A sweet treat for hands and feet.

Tips for a disney cruise with a toddler or preschooler.

Are you planning a Disney Cruise with your toddler or preschooler in tow? Maybe you’re questioning whether cruising with a toddler is a good idea, or if you should wait until they’re older. We’ve done a few Disney cruises now with our children at all different milestones. Our first was when our daughter was 1 and our most recent was when our son was 2 and our daughter was 4. I’m happy to share my personal tips for cruising with a toddler or preschool aged child in hopes that they’ll be helpful for you!

Disney Cruise Toddler and Preschooler Tips

I’d like to start by saying that we had an amazing time on every Disney Cruise we’ve been on as a family. If you’re cruising with little ones in tow, you can’t go wrong with a Disney Cruise. They absolutely cater to families and young children and I think that makes the world of difference when it comes to cruising with young children. Plus if your kiddos are Disney fans, they’re destined to feel the magic on a Disney Cruise.

Understand what Childcare Options are Available for You

Disney Cruises offer special childcare options for children of all ages. Toddlers or Preschoolers will be able to spend time in either the Small World Nursery or the Oceaneer Club.

Disney Cruise Small World Nursery

The Small World nursery is available for children aged 6 months – 3 years old. You can reserve the nursery for an additional fee and reservations can be made in advance or same day (if there is availability). Rates are as follows:

  • $4.50 per half hour for the first child
  • note: reservations are a one hour minimum

Disney Cruise Oceaneer Club

The Oceaneer Club is available for children aged 3 – 12 that are fully potty trained. There is no additional cost to utilize the Oceaneer Club.

We’ve used both the Small World Nursery and the Oceaneer Club and they’re both wonderful! The counselors are so sweet and the available toys and entertainment are exactly what you’d expect from Disney; they don’t disappoint!

If your little one is too young for the Oceaneer Club, they can still spend time there with you during the Open House hours they have onboard. My son loved exploring the Oceaneer Club during the Open House when he was 2 and too young to actually be checked in during the day.

Choose your Stateroom Wisely

There are different stateroom categories to consider when booking your Disney Cruise with little ones in tow. We personally like spending the extra money for the Deluxe Family Stateroom (either Verandah or Oceanview).

Not only is your room larger, but you also have an additional murphy bed available. We personally felt better about our kids each sleeping in a bed close to the floor vs using the pull-down ceiling bunk.

If you’re a family of 5, the Deluxe Family Stateroom is a great choice as well!

On our first cruise when we only had one kiddo and she was used to her crib at home, we booked a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom (not the Family Stateroom) and she slept in the pack n play and that was perfectly fine!

Regardless of stateroom size, bed rails and Pack n Plays are available to request (or you can bring your own).

Early Dining or the Early Show?

When cruising with littles ones that struggle to stay up very late, you may want to consider whether spending time as a family at dinner is priority vs watching the shows together each night.

When you book your cruise you’ll have the choice between the Main Dining or the Second Dining options.

The Main Dining is around 6pm and the Second Dining is around 8pm. The idea is that if you eat during the Main Dining, you would watch the late show. And if you eat during the Second Dining, you would watch the early show.

On our most recent cruise we tried the Second Dining because my daughter had struggled to stay awake for the shows on our previous cruise. She LOVED watching the early show with me and then making our way to the late dining. Our server was wonderful about bringing her food quickly and then she often fell asleep at the table while laying across 2 chairs. It was nice that she got to watch the entire show and also eat before she fell asleep (vs falling asleep and missing the show).

Another option you have available if you choose the Second Seating is the Dine and Play program that the Oceaneer Club hosts. You simply tell your server that you’ll be utilizing Dine and Play. Your server will bring your child’s food more quickly and then a counselor will bring the children to the Oceaneer Club while the adults take their time with their meal.

The Pools & Potty Training

Another thing to keep in mind if you’re cruising with little ones is that they must be potty trained to enjoy the pools. They cannot swim with a swim diaper.

However they can play in the themed splash zones! My kids loved these but it was a whole new world for my daughter when she could finally swim in the pools and enjoy the slides!

Lifevests are available for those who need them while swimming (or you could bring your own from home).

Castaway Cay

Castaway Cay (pronounced Castaway Key) is Disney’s private island and it’s a ton of fun! My kids really enjoyed swimming, playing in the sand, and adventuring around the island.

Scuttle’s Cove is also available at Castaway Cay for children that are aged 3-12 and potty trained. It’s essentially the Oceaneer Club option on the island.

One tip I have for Castaway Cay is that there are a limited number of strollers and wagons available on the island. They’re first come first serve, so grab one early if that would be useful to you.

There’s also a tram that runs on the island and stops at all of the main attractions along the way. It may be worthwhile using the tram if your hands are full and there aren’t any wagons or strollers available.

Don’t Forget to Reserve the Special Extras

There is so much to do on a Disney Cruise that you’ll no-doubt have an amazing time. BUT! There are extras to reserve that you don’t want to miss! While you’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet characters on board, some special character meet-and-greets are by reservation only (no additional charge but you must have a reservation).

You can make these reservations before your cruise however they do go quickly. If you miss out on booking a special character meet-and-greet ahead of time, try to reserve it right when you get on board.

Something else you may want to reserve for your children is an appointment at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or Pirates League onboard. This is an additional fee but it’s a lot of fun and very special.

I hope these tips are helpful if you’re considering a Disney Cruise with your toddler or preschooler! We loved our cruises and my kiddos still talk about all of the fun they had onboard!

If you need help booking your Disney Cruise, I recommend Love of the Magic Vacations ! They’re an amazing agency that I personally use to book our Disney Cruises. They can answer your cruise questions and get you ready to sail! You can request a free vacation quote right here .

7 Things To Know About Disney Cruise Lines “It’s a Small World Nursery”

DCL Nursery

      1.   What age? “It’s a Small World Nursery” is for your little ones 6 months to 3 years old. 1 – 3 years old on select cruises (minimum age restriction on some cruises; Panama canal etc)

    2.  Peace of mind. In your Disney Cruise stateroom, you will have 2 Wave Phones. If you don’t know what they are, they are 2 phones for you to use while onboard your ship or even at Castaway Cay. You can call or text each other, or others onboard as well. You can also get calls from the Nursery (the Oceaneers Club/lab, Edge and Vibe too) If they need something, have a question or concern, they will give you a ring. You are never too far from the Nursery and always able to be in contact. Also, know that your baby is being cared for by expert Disney counselors.

   3. Cost.  Childcare is available at $4.50 per half hour ($9/hr) for the first child and $4.00 per half hour for any additional children in your family (Same stateroom) There is a minimum of 1 hour per reservation. It will be charged to your stateroom directly after pick up. Cancellation must be 4 hours prior to avoid a fee. Less than 4 hours will be penalized half the cost of the childcare. No Shows pay the entire cost of childcare that was reserved.

  4. Security.  Just like older kids, you will choose a secret word for pick up. Along with your Key to the World card and sign them in and out. You can add additional adults to pick up. Friends and family, you may be traveling with. They provide a bag you put supplies in at every drop-off. There is a single gate, they will come get your babies and also bring them to you at check out after getting the official call once all the procedures are complete. There is a little 2-way mirror you may be able to sneak a peek of your kiddo. No pictures are allowed by parents. Privacy concerns. Characters will come to the Nursery. Sometimes you will even get a pic from a counselor at check out. Super cute!

   5. Reservations. Space is limited. Reservations can be made onboard on a first-come, first-served basis. The best time is during the Open House on Embarkation day. They can be made anytime throughout the cruise. Availability will vary. Advance reservations are required and can be made online for up to 18 hours during your cruise (so try for those MUST have hours to begin with and add more onboard.)

  • Up to 120 days ahead for Concierge and Platinum Castaway Club Guests.
  • Up to 105 days ahead for Gold Castaway Club Guests.
  • Up to 90 days ahead for Silver Castaway Club Guests.
  • Up to 75 days ahead for all other Guests.

6. What they do.  Everything. The counselors are angels. You drop off your sweet little babies and you get know rest easy knowing they are in good hands. Little one wants to lay down for a nap? Done. Hungry? They got it covered. Need a drink? Of course. Potty training? They continue the work! Seriously though. They play with them, watch movies, make crafts, Characters come and play with them, they can nap, fed bottles, have snacks throughout the day, and serve meals at mealtime.

7. What you need to know. You provide your own supplies. While they do have food, drinks, and snacks, you will have to bring diapers, wipes, ointments, etc. If you run out, Hakuna Matata, you can buy some at the shops. Children with Special Needs are welcome to the nursery! In stateroom , babysitting is now permitted or offered. You will fill out a form with all medical information, allergies, etc. So they are knowledgable about your child’s needs. With the character interaction, if your child has fears, this is a great time to overcome them.

Basically, It’s a Small World Nursery is nothing short of amazing. Even the littles get Disney Magic . Your child is completely cared for. If an issue arises they will be in contact with you. I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I couldn’t have asked for more. At the beginning of the cruise, my baby was scared of the characters. The picture they took with Minnie, my little was literally running away. By the end, she was running UP to multiple characters. Tiana even told me how she was just in the Nursery playing with her earlier that day. How awesome!

Childcare and Babysitting Services at Disney World

Being a parent is hectic, especially during a busy Disney family vacation. If you’re looking for some alone time, and wonder if there are childcare and babysitting services at Disney World, the answer is YES.

There are a few options to give adults a chance to enjoy a night out with the peace of mind knowing that your kids are in good hands. Kid’s Night Out is a Disney in-room babysitting service and Camp Dolphin is a drop-off childcare center. Rates for both services are very affordable and it couldn’t be any more convenient.

Let’s explore these two childcare/babysitting options at Disney World.

Kid’s Night Out Babysitting Services

Are couples entitled to a little “alone time” away from their kids during their Disney family vacation? We think so!

Maybe it’s a romantic dinner at one of Disney’s many fabulous dining spots. Or maybe it’s relaxing at a lounge, nightclub, or sports bar .

You may want to stroll the BoardWalk or shop at Disney Springs.

Whatever the occasion, Disney’s childcare services have has you covered!

Your first option is Kid’s Nite Out . This service will provide you with one-on-one babysitting right in your Disney World resort hotel room.  Your childcare provider will engage your children in activities such as reading, crafts, and playing games.

The service is available for children 6 months to 12 years of age.

How much does Kid’s Night Out cost?

Rates as of June 2023 (subject to change)

Please note:

There’s a four-hour minimum and you’ll pay a one-time transportation fee of $15 per booking .

Furthermore, a $15 per hour surcharge  is added to reservations which start before 7:59am or after 8:59pm . Additional charges may apply to reservations which begin at an extremely early hour.

Rates are subject to change and reservations should be made at least 2 weeks in advance (30 days would be better). To make your reservations, contact your Disney Travel Agent (we recommend The Vacationeer ), or call the Kid’s Nite Out hotline at (800) 696-8105.

Details about Kid’s Nite Out

  • For children 6 months to 12 years of age
  • Babysitters are available 24/7
  • 4-hour minimum
  • Endorsed by Disney (but not run by Disney)
  • All childcare providers are 18+ and insured and bonded
  • They all have previous childcare experience and training in basic first aid and child/infant CPR

Hire a Helper for In-Park Assistance

You can also hire a Kid’s Night Out provider to give you an extra set of hands when you (the parent/guardian) are present.

Guests can reserve a childcare specialist on a per-hour basis. They will accompany your family as you visit the theme parks.

The “nanny” will help you organize, push a stroller, give you tips, and just lend a helping hand when needed. They will make your day go as smoothly as possible.

Have Questions? Vacationeers are standing by!

camp dolphin at Disney's Dolphin Hotel

Camp Dolphin

Another option at Disney is Camp Dolphin.  This children’s activity center is located on the first floor of Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel , not far from Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

  • All-Inclusive (4PM-11PM): $85 for first child, $65 for each additional child
  • Early Evening (4PM-8PM): $65 per child

Baby Care Centers

Another thing worth mentioning is Disney’s Baby Care Centers.

Baby Care Centers are areas that provide parents with a convenient place to nurse, feed, and change their infants and toddlers. They are located within all 4 of Disney’s theme parks:  Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios.

These parenting zones provide privacy and plenty of helpful amenities so you can tend to your little ones.

Details about Disney World’s Baby Care Center

  • Open during normal park hours
  • Facilities are staffed and free to use
  • Changing rooms (includes tables and restrooms)
  • Private nursing room w/ rocking chairs
  • Feeding area w/ highchairs
  • Changing Stations
  • Main room w/ seating, table, and tv
  • Kitchen w/ sink and microwave
  • On-site shop offering baby food, formula, diapers, wipes, juice, over-the-counter medications, sunscreen, and clothing for purchase

Lost Children

If a child is separated from their parents while in one of Disney’s theme parks, a Cast Member will escort the child to the Baby Care Center. Here they’ll be cared for until the parent(s) comes to claim the child.

Other Baby Care Centers Locations?

Disney World’s resort hotels, Disney’s water parks , and Disney Springs do not have Baby Care Centers.  However, baby changing stations are located in most restrooms at these locations.

Is a Disney cruise for adults? Here are 5 reasons why I say yes

G ourmet French dinners, $5,000 cocktail experiences , serene infinity pools and penthouse suites that cost thousands of dollars a night might not be the first thing you think of when someone mentions a Disney cruise. But you'll find it all on Disney ships.

I sailed with the line for the first time more than a decade ago, and I didn't want to take the assignment. I'm a child-free adult, I'm not a particularly over-the-top Disney fan, and all I could imagine was a theme park at sea — characters everywhere, souvenir shops galore and, of course, tons of kids.

Simply, I was wrong.

What I found was an absolutely wonderful experience on an elegant ship with superb service, phenomenal entertainment, delicious food and just enough subtle magic to instill a bit of childlike wonder without making me feel immature.

Disney Cruise Line has maintained its four older ships exceptionally well, and its newest vessel, Disney Wish — its first new-build in 10 years — is also pretty great. Across the board, my opinion still stands: Disney cruises aren't just for kids. So, if you're trying to find a Disney cruise for adults, don't worry — they all fit the bill. Here are five reasons why you'll love the experience, even as a grownup.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

You control how 'Disney' you want it to be

Let me allay your fears: When you sail with Disney, you won't be overwhelmed by Mickey and friends the way you might be at the brand's land-based amusement parks. However, that experience is available should you choose to seek it.

The subtlety with which Disney manages to incorporate branded touches on its ships is commendable and classy. You'll find nods to various Disney animated movie classics as you move between decks — a pumpkin on the carpet here, a snowflake on the wall there — but you're likely to find it more tasteful than obnoxious.

If you'd like to avoid a largely Disney-fied ambience, it's easy to do. If, instead, you prefer a more immersive cruise, you're also in luck, as the ships host scheduled character meet-and-greets, themed dining experiences and more.

There are tons of adults-only spaces

Grownups who wish to keep strictly to an older crowd will love the adults-only venues on all Disney ships.

On Disney's four older vessels — Disney Dream , Disney Fantasy (which is my pick for the best Disney cruise ship for adults ), Disney Wonder and Disney Magic — adults-only bars and nightclubs are clustered into one area, known as The District. After 9 p.m., nobody younger than 18 is permitted inside, allowing the more mature set to let its hair down sans kids.

On Disney Wish, the age-limited spaces are more spread out, a purposeful layout designed to help alleviate crowding and improve traffic flow. Personally, I prefer The District's setup, but the watering holes on the new ship are, frankly, the most impressive in the fleet to date.

What's impressive about these offerings is that most other ships don't have them. Apart from Virgin Voyages , Viking , P&O Cruises and Saga Cruises, all of which sail adults-only vessels , the most other lines offer is an adults-only sun deck or pool here and there. Even where those areas exist, age limits aren't always strictly enforced, and sometimes you have to pay for access, none of which is the case on Disney ships.

Even the least expensive accommodations are elevated

Disney cruises are a cut above the sailings you'll find with most other mainstream lines. When it comes to accommodations, even the most basic feel elevated. All have two bathrooms; one has a shower with a tub (rare on cruise ships) and a sink, and the other has a toilet and a sink.

Disney provides its own brand of toiletries in cabin bathrooms. The products are so popular — they smell divine — that the line sells them in its onboard gift shops.

All rooms also offer a dividing curtain that creates two separate areas. Although these features were designed with families in mind, they're also convenient for friends traveling together, adding to the argument that a Disney cruise could make for a perfect girlfriends getaway.

On the high end, the line sells a variety of suite accommodations. New on Disney Wish, the Tower Suite is the most coveted and most expensive, carrying a price tag of several thousand dollars per night.

Located in the ship's fake funnel, the suite is two decks high and includes three bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths and a large living room area. Its understated nautical decor pays subtle tribute to "Moana." Unfortunately, because of the layout, there's no balcony, but you'll still be spoiled beyond belief if you book a stay there.

You can also choose to book concierge-level staterooms , which offer perks like priority boarding and disembarkation, access to a dedicated lounge with free drinks in the evenings and dibs on booking the best spa appointments and shore excursions.

Delicious dining options range from basic to gourmet

Disney Cruise Line's dining options allow you to either join the masses (where there will be children, so take heed) in the free dining rooms, head to the buffet or open-air food court, or opt for an adults-only added-fee option.

On all of the fleet's ships, standard dining is rotational, which means you'll move to a different main dining room each night but with the same table number, tablemates and waitstaff.

In my experience, dining across the board on Disney ships has been absolutely scrumptious and well prepared, regardless of where I chose to eat and how much extra I paid.

On Disney Wish, 1923 is a throwback to the golden age of animation. Split into two parts, it offers a more intimate setting than what you'd find at Royal Court, the more understated free dining venue on the line's other vessels.

For more immersive and somewhat gimmicky meals that are fun but often loud, adult passengers on Disney Wish will want to check out Worlds of Marvel and Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure . The former brings Ant-Man and The Wasp tableside (via prerecorded broadcast) to show off their new discovery — a Quantum Core, with which Ant-Man unwittingly shrinks the ship down to the size of a toy boat. During the latter, you'll find much singing and dancing to celebrate the engagement of Anna and Kristoff, two of the main characters from "Frozen." In line with the theme, the menu is largely Norwegian.

On the four original ships, immersive options include Animator's Palate, where "Finding Nemo" characters talk with you as you eat; Enchanted Garden, which feels a bit like a scene from "Alice in Wonderland," where you can watch as the scenery slowly turns from day to night; and Rapunzel's Royal Table, where characters from "Tangled" make an appearance.

Also on the original vessels, Palo is an adults-only Italian eatery . On Disney Wish, it has been transformed into an elegantly styled steakhouse that exudes "Beauty and the Beast" vibes. This is the perfect option for anyone who wants something less casual than the buffet but also wants to avoid crowds and noise in the main dining rooms without paying a fortune.

Before you go in, stop at The Rose bar, which is perfect for tasty pre-dinner cocktails.

Enchante and Remy are two of the most expensive alternative dining options at sea for any cruise line. Both feature French cuisine and are reserved exclusively for adult diners. The latter appears on older DCL ships and was inspired by (and named after the main character in) "Ratatouille."

Enchante is new as of the debut of Disney Wish. It offers a completely revamped menu by chef Arnaud Lallement, who's also the mastermind behind the menu at Remy. Enchante allows for a la carte dining, or you can choose from one of two experiences: Passion, a seven-course meal for $125, or Collection, a selection of surprise courses curated by the chef for $195. (Wine and Champagne pairings cost extra.)

The kids clubs are fantastic

"But, wait," you're thinking. "I thought this was an article about why Disney Cruises are great for adults." You're exactly right, and that's why this one is so important.

The Oceaneer Club offerings on Disney ships are so fun, engaging and technologically advanced that kids often don't want to leave. So, whether you're a parent looking for some downtime or a child-free adult who doesn't appreciate little ones pushing all the elevator buttons or teens clogging up stairwells, you won't have to worry about a barrage of younger passengers.

From babysitting for infants, kids and tweens to phenomenal play areas (think: themes like princesses, Marvel superheroes and "Star Wars"), the line's childcare services are a cut above those provided by all other cruise brands. In fact, they're so cool you'll wish you could spend time there yourself — and you can during designated hours on each voyage.

Bottom line

Although you won't be able to completely avoid children on Disney ships, you can still enjoy the magic of The Mouse in several adults-only spaces found on all of the line's ships. The onboard experience will make you feel like a kid again but in luxurious surroundings and with the excellent service and attention to detail that have become hallmarks of the Disney brand.

Disneyland costumed character employees vote to unionize

Disneyland Resort employees who portray costumed characters such as Mickey Mouse or Cinderella have voted to unionize under the Actors' Equity Assn.

The unit, which consists of 1,700 people, voted 953 in favor of unionization and 258 against, Actors' Equity said Saturday night on the social media platform X. Of the votes tallied, 79% were pro-union.

The results of the vote, overseen by the National Labor Relations Board, come after a three-day election period in which employees, known as "cast members" in Disney parlance, placed their votes at three polling sites in Disneyland. The employees announced their intent to unionize in February .

"This is an incredible victory, and we appreciate all the support over the past several weeks. We're excited about the next phase," said Actors' Equity Assn. President Kate Shindle in a statement. "These cast members are both pro-union and pro-Disney, and they're looking forward to meeting with their employer across the bargaining table in a good faith effort to make both the work experience and the guest experience better."

The workers regularly don full-body costumes of well-known animated Disney characters. They also portray so-called lookalike characters, such as the Disney princesses, in which the actors' faces are exposed while performing. These employees work at meet-and-greets in the parks, perform in parades and are part of dining experiences in the Disneyland Resort hotels.

“While voting is complete, there are still steps in the process prior to the election being certified, so it is premature for the company to comment on the results," said Disneyland spokesperson Jessica Good in a statement. "Whatever the outcome, we respect that our cast members had the opportunity to have their voices heard.”

Organizers said prior to the election that a top priority was creating a healthier and safer working environment for these workers, who often endure injury and discomfort due to the physical nature of their jobs.

Employees can get accidentally injured during guest interactions, such as when a child jumps on a costumed character out of excitement, or intentionally hurt. A recent social media trend emerged in which guests distract employees wearing full-body costumes, then try to twist or aggressively move their heads around.

The Disneyland Resort employees in the characters and parades departments now join their counterparts in Walt Disney World in Florida in being part of a union. Most of the rest of the Disneyland Resort workforce, including custodians, ride operators and merchandise clerks, among others, are already unionized.

The organizing effort comes as the Walt Disney Co. plans to invest $60 billion over 10 years into its "experiences" division, which includes the theme parks, resorts, cruise line and merchandise. That division has proved to be a cash cow for the company; last year, it brought in about 70% of Disney's operating income.

At Disneyland Resort, that investment will result in what company Chief Executive Bob Iger called the biggest expansion of the parks since the addition of Disney's California Adventure, which opened in 2001. The plan, known as DisneylandForward , will result in at least $1.9 billion in development and could include new attractions alongside restaurant, retail and hotel space.

The plan calls for changes to the park’s zoning, allowing the company more freedom to mix attractions, theme parks, shopping, dining and parking. While the plan doesn’t specify which attractions will be added to the resort, company officials have floated ideas including immersive "Avatar," "Frozen" and "Tron" experiences.

WNBA moms say life will be 'a lot easier' with charter flights

  • Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Indiana Fever forward Katie Lou Samuelson says life as first-time mom got a little easier with the WNBA's announcement that players will fly on charter flights for road games.

The announcement addressed security concerns among other issues but was an early Mother's Day gift for the Fever wing and about a dozen other players across the league with children.

"It's going to be a lot easier traveling with a 9-month-old on a charter than it would be commercially," Samuelson, who gave birth to her daughter, Aliya Renae Cannady, on Aug. 4., told The Associated Press. "She'll be on a lot of the road trips."

Many players would not take their kids on the road due to the requirements for young children when flying on commercial flights.

Breanna Stewart , who has two children with wife Marta, also appreciates the new travel perk -- as well as other benefits for parents under the current collective bargaining agreement, which include:

• Players receive their full salary while on maternity leave after only getting half under the previous agreement.

• They get a $5,000 child care stipend, and a two-bedroom apartment is provided.

• Mothers are given comfortable, protected and secluded space for nursing at arenas and access to a refrigerator to store their breast milk.

Connecticut Sun forward DeWanna Bonner said every little bit helps.

"I hope it keeps getting better and better because people don't really understand what it takes to be a mom and play basketball or be a mom and be in any kind of sports thing," said Bonner, who has 6-year-old twins. "It's very mentally draining. So just for them to provide any and everything they can to support you, it's exciting."

Sun coach Stephanie White said things are much better for players than when she played.

White remembers the challenges former teammate Niele Ivey faced after giving birth to her son Jaden , who is now 22 and just finished his second season with the NBA's Detroit Pistons .

"There wasn't a lot available. She would bring him to practice and he'd sit in his car seat or, you know, somebody would come with her and he'd sit with her," White said. "On the road it was, you know, sharing a room at the time because I don't even know if veterans got their own room. So you'd have to pay for a separate room or pay for people to come with you."

Some teams have also stepped up at their arenas. The Phoenix Mercury have had a family room for kids to play in since 2018 before, during and after games. The franchise debuted a new one during Suns games this season, and the Mercury families will be able to take advantage of it.

Stewart said she hopes even more can be done for parents in the next CBA. The players or league could opt out of the current CBA after this season.

"We're in a much better place than we ever were with these benefits," Stewart said before pointing out the stipend isn't per child. "It should be a per-child situation. Kids are expensive. If the league can help, let's really do it."

Stewart also said the number of years to qualify for the family planning benefits in the CBA needs to be reduced.

Players who have played eight or more seasons can be reimbursed up to $20,000 for costs per year directly related to adoption, surrogacy, egg freezing or fertility/infertility treatment. That amount is capped at $60,000 total per player.

"That's a long time. ... It's hard to get to that point," Stewart said of the eight-year mark as players remain in the league on average for about five years. "It's a benefit I'm sure a lot of players would love to take advantage of."

The two-time league MVP said there could be some parental bonding during the Paris Games.

Currently there is no WNBA moms text group, but Stewart has a feeling there could be one started at the Olympics this summer.

Diana Taurasi , Stewart, Napheesa Collier and Chelsea Gray all have children. Brittney Griner will soon join the moms club as her wife Cherelle is expecting the couple's first child in July.

Gray would be all-in. Her wife, Tipesa, had the couple's first child earlier this year.

"Mother's Day used to be what do I get my mom? Make sure I call my grandmother. It's still the same, but now I'm receiving calls," Gray said. "It really hasn't dawned on me that I have a day now."

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

disney fantasy cruise child care

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

disney fantasy cruise child care

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

disney fantasy cruise child care

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
