EF plans everything, from the flights to the hotels and the activities. You just need to show up and be ready for the trip of a lifetime.

I like traveling with EF to destinations I likely wouldn’t go on my own, but they have over 65 trips to choose from all over the world. Many people choose to book EF trips as solo travelers , so you will easily make friends on the trips.

EF Ultimate Break FAQs

After traveling with EF Ultimate Break on three trips, I get a lot of questions about traveling with them. I put all the frequently asked questions below, but if you have others, send me a  DM on Instagram .

Most Common Questions about EF Ultimate Break

Here are the most common questions I get asked by first-time travelers.

Should I get EF travel protection?

I always suggest getting EF travel protection because you never know what issues might arise when traveling. They will cover you if you get sick or injured, lose your bag, your flight is delayed, and more.

If you want to book travel insurance for a non-EF Ultimate trip or want another option, I recommend SafetyWing .

How do I get to the first hotel if I book my own flights?

If you book your own flights (which I highly recommend!), you must get from the airport to the first hotel on your own. I use public transportation if it’s available and reliable (like in Europe or some parts of Asia), or book a transportation service through Viator .

You can always ask your tour director if you can join in on the group transportation, and they might allow you to.

Can I do laundry on EF trips?

Laundry will be available at some hotels or hostels throughout your trip. It is better to do laundry during your trip than over-pack, especially on longer trips.

Can I upgrade my flight or change my seats?

If you book them with EF, you will get your flight assignment 30 days before you depart. You can use your confirmation number to find your flight details on the airline’s website. Here, you can pick/change your seat, add bags, and add TSA precheck/global entry numbers.

How much should I tip my tour guide?

Each trip has a different recommended tip for your tour guide. You can find the recommended amount in your trip’s Know Before You Go Guide (found in the app, online, or in your email). EF tour guides work hard to give us a good experience and show us around a new place, so make sure you budget for the tip!

How big are EF Ultimate Break groups?

Tour groups range in size, with the average tour having 20 to 30 travelers. The maximum number is 40-ish travelers.

Is EF Ultimate Break worth it?

EF Ultimate Break is so worth it! They plan everything for you, so you just have to show up, have fun, and travel the world with other people ages 18 to 35.

EF Go Ahead Tours Announces Sale: Up to $800 Off

This limited-time sale knocks up to $800 off the cost of tours..

Christine Sarkis

The Scoop: What to Know About EF Go Ahead Tours

EF Go Ahead Tours has announced its semi-annual sale on 2023, 2024, and 2025 trips. The sale, which runs through June 29, discounts tours by up to $400. There are also some soon-to-depart tours available for discounts up to $600. And on June 20 and 21, there’s a sale within a sale that offers even deeper discounts when the Summer Solstice Flash Sale knocks up to $800 off the price of remaining 2023 tours.

TourScoop Takeaway

Tour companies tend to limit their sales to once or twice a year, so if you’ve been eyeing an EF Go Ahead itinerary, this is a good time to pounce on the lower price. The Summer Solstice Flash Sale, which offers further discounts on 2023 tours, is a good fit for last-minute travel. And the company’s AutoPay option, which allows you to hold a trip spot for $99 and then wait 60 days before paying, gives people who don’t want to miss the discount but aren’t quite ready for the commitment a bit of time to consider without risking a lot of money.

  • Passport, visa, and reciprocity fees or any other fees associated with entry to or exit from a specific destination

When I redeem a COVID-19 Future Travel Voucher, can I split the value across multiple accounts? A COVID-19 Future Travel Voucher cannot be divided into multiple accounts, unless the traveler applies the voucher to a future tour and the voucher amount is higher than the price of the new tour. The traveler can then utilize the remaining portion of the COVID-19 Voucher on another EF product for themselves or a member of their immediate family or community. All travel needs to be departing prior to the COVID-19 Future Travel Voucher expiration date. If I elect to exchange a COVID-19 Electronic Future Travel Voucher for a refund how long will it take for me to receive my refund? Trips for Every Travel Style

EF Ultimate Break offers tours in almost every continent (sorry, Antarctica!) and for a range of travel styles. Enjoy going on an adventure? EF will take you trekking through the Swiss Alps. Want to be in Germany during Oktoberfest? Yep, book it here! Spend over a month in Europe? Yeah, we did it with EF. So, needless to say, one of the things we love about EF is the trip diversity. Here are some of the types of trips you can book with EF Ultimate Break!

With trips ranging from 15 to 49 days, you can experience Europe like never before. Take the Grand Tour of Europe like we did and see 12 cities in 7 countries. Highlights of Europe is a slightly shorter version of the Grand Tour, while Ultimate Europe is a slightly longer version that includes Greece and more of Germany. European Summer meanders along the coast of the Mediterranean are great for anyone who loves the sun and sand. Backpacker’s Europe is the longest trip, skipping Greece for Eastern Europe and more of Italy, southern France, and the Iberian Peninsula.

Short Breaks

Want to explore new places but have adulting to do at home? These short breaks are all 9 days and under, perfect for if you work or go to school full time. Escape to Greece, Iceland, and several places in Great Britain. EF offers three trips, including a visit to London and one other destination, including Paris, Dublin, and Scotland.

Essential Europe

Explore some of Europe’s most incredible destinations on these 8 – 12-day trips. You can start by selecting a region you would like to explore, like Great Britain, Scandinavia, Central Europe, or the Iberian Peninsula, and browsing all the exciting trips. You may want to explore the capitals of London, Scotland, and Ireland, take a Spanish road trip, or hop planes between the beautiful cities in Scandinavia. On the o ther hand, you might want to check off a few major cities all at once, so a trip to London, Paris, and Rome may be the perfect fit.

Festivals and Events

Celebrate with the locals on these fun trips. Enjoy Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations across Ireland, party with great food and music at the La Tomatina Festival in Spain, and raise a glass in Munich Biergarten for Oktoberfest. Since these trips are limited to only a few dates a year, book quickly if you want this experience!

Safari and Wildlife

Marvel at the wonders of nature on these exciting wildlife expeditions. In Tanzania and Zanzibar, you will visit Serengeti National Park, the world’s largest crater, travel to tropical islands, and meet members of the Maasai Tribe in their village. In Kenya, you will visit Maasai Mara National Park, hang out with giraffes at a conservation center, explore wilderness areas, and visit the city of Nairobi. On the other side of the world, visit Ecuador and the Galapagos for tropical beaches, mountains, and jungles filled with wildlife, tour a cocoa plantation, and snorkel in island waters.

Sun and Sand

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach getaway or an adventure-filled island exploration, there are plenty of seaside trips for you to indulge in. From the historic Greek islands to the action-packed beaches of Australia and New Zealand, from a Croatian cruise to a Caribbean adventure, and the ancient ruins of Belize to the modern cabanas of Bali, there is no shortage of beaches to explore with EF.

Adventure Seekers

Nature lovers and thrill-seekers have no shortage of trips with EF. These trips take you through some of the world’s richest natural landscapes and fascinating manmade destinations. Take breathtaking hikes through the Alps, explore the lost city of the Incas at Macchu Picchu, snorkel and whitewater raft in the Dominican Republic, hike the green ridges and stunning cliffs of Ireland, and explore the waterfalls and glaciers of Iceland.

If you’re feeling really ambitious, take the epic 57-day Ultimate Earth trip, where you will literally go around the world exploring the culture, history, and beauty of five continents.

In-Depth Explorers

Immerse yourself in the culture and history of one country on these in-depth explorations. These trips will give you the chance to learn customs, try foods, practice languages, and broaden your perspective of a place. See wonders of the ancient world in Turkey, explore the “golden triangle” of India, discover the modern cities and timeless traditions of Japan, eat and drink your way through the Italian countryside, and time travel to the Egyptian pyramids. Try longer “ultimate” trips to Italy and the Greek Islands to get the full experience of these incredible places.

EF Ultimate Plus Vs. Essential Trips

EF Ultimate Break recently added two different styles of trips to their catalog. When you’re browsing trips on their website, you’ll see a designation of either plus or essential next to the trip. The essential trips are their standard trips, including everything you would typically get on an EF Ultimate Break tour. The plus trips, on the other hand, offered a premium and luxury experience. The EF Ultimate Break plus trips include a double room with a roommate of your choice, additional meals, and higher star-rated accommodations. Plus trips are great if you’re traveling with a close friend or a partner or if you want more privacy. Because you are paying for a single room and more meals, typically, these trips have a higher cost compared to the essential trips.

Point of convergence: Tracking the Tallahassee tornadoes' havoc in maps, words and photos

Two tornadoes that tore through the urban core of Tallahassee on May 10 converged at the Capital City Country Club to continue their miles long march of destruction .

That was among the discoveries after National Weather Service surveyors confirmed that a trio of twisters were behind what many are saying is the worst damage to the capital city since Hurricane Kate.

The storms packed estimated peak wind gusts of 115 mph and the trail of uprooted trees and damaged homes and businesses enabled surveyors to map out the three tornadoes' rare, 20-minute tour of terror through Florida's capital county.

Here are the paths of the windstorms as told through the accounts of National Weather Service surveyors , as well as links, photos and video from our readers and journalists.

Tornado #1: From TCC to FSU before ravaging Railroad Square, crashing into Cascades and messing up Myers Park

  • Rating: EF-2 (Significant tornado with 111-135 mph winds)
  • Estimated Peak Wind: 115 mph
  • Path Length: 19.58 miles
  • Path Width: 900 yards
  • Start: 6:38 a.m. in Greensboro in Gadsden Country
  • End: 7:03 a.m. in west Indian Head Acres

"The tornado touched down at approximated 6:38 a.m. near Spooner Road in eastern Gadsden County, initially damaging an old barn or farm building. The tornado track southeastward, snapping and uprooting trees through the remainder of Gadsden County before crossing the Ocholochnee River and entering western Leon County just southwest of U.S. 90."

"Extensive tree damage was noted at a mobile home park on Emily Loop where several homes were damaged by falling trees. The tornado caused roof and siding damage to a hotel and shopping center near the intersection of Capital Circle Northwest and U.S. 90."

"The tornado appears to have intensified as it moved southeast after crossing Capital Circle and approaching Blountstown Highway. EF-2 damage was noted to an automotive repair building along Blountstown Highway, along with intense tree damage, with a swath of nearly every pine tree snapped at approximately 75 feet above the ground."

"This level of damage continued across Pat Thomas Boulevard. Significant tree damage was noted on the campuses of Lively Technical College and Tallahassee Community College before the tornado crossed Appleyard Drive. Another area of intense tree damage was noted along Cactus Street, consistent with an EF-2 rating. Numerous homes were damaged by falling trees."

"The tornado then moved through a densely populated area of single family and multi-family homes, causing widespread EF-1 tree damage. Numerous homes and businesses were damaged by falling trees as the tornado crossed Pensacola Street and approached the Florida State University Campus ."

"Numerous trees were downed on the southwestern part of the campus. In addition, the tent housing the Florida State University Flying High Circus was destroyed and the outfield fence at Dick Howser Stadium was severely damaged."

"The tornado moved along Gaines Street, causing damage to a few businesses, and causing a construction crane to collapse."

" At Railroad Square , several warehouse buildings were severely damaged, along with the roof of the railroad depot. Snapped and uprooted trees were also noted in the downtown area, just south of the State Capital Building near the state Department of Education Building."

"At this point, the tornado began to turn more southeastward as it began to interact with the nearby tornado to its south. The tornado caused damage at Cascades Park, and significant tree damage in Myers Park."

"The tornado then moved through Country Club Estates and onto the Capital City Country Club."

At this time, the track converged with that of the tornado to the south, with the tornado to the south appearing to become the dominant feature moving forward. The peak intensity EF-2 intensity of 115mph is estimated to have occurred in a couple of spots between Blountstown Highway and Cactus Street. The maximum width was approximately 900 yards."

Tornado #2: Born in Lake Talquin State Park, twister rakes FAMU before 'converging' at Capital City Country Club and battering Indianhead

  • Path Length: 27.22 miles
  • Path Width: 1,400 yards
  • Start Time: 6:50 a.m. near Fort Braden
  • End Location: 7:14 a.m. near Chaires Crossroads in Jefferson County

"The tornado touched down at approximately 6:50 a.m. in Lake Talquin State Park at Williams Landing, promptly producing EF-1 damage snapping numerous softwood and hardwood trees. The tornado would then continue trekking east-southeast before making a hard right and traveling due east as it passed the intersection of Blountstown Highway and Ft. Braden Trail Road, producing damage consistent with an EF-1 rating by snapping numerous hardwood and softwood trees along the way."

"The tornado would then continue east, paralleling Blountstown Highway as it then impacted Lake Talquin State Recreational Area where it would continue producing EF-1 damage by snapping trees. The tornado would then shift its trajectory to east-southeast once again, impacting many subdivisions in the Norfleet neighborhood south of Blountstown Highway snapping numerous trees across the area."

"It would then continue on its east-southeast path before traveling east once again as it reached just north of the intersection of Capital Circle SW and Orange Ave W in Tallahassee. It would then go on to impact the neighborhoods of Seminole Manor and Mabry Manor snapping many trees along the way and causing damage to Sabal Palm Elementary School."

"The tornado would then continue its eastern track impacting Florida A&M University (FAMU) producing EF-1 damage by snapping numerous trees along the way. This included roof damage to at least two university buildings. EF- 0 damage was observed a handful of times to eve's on homes and businesses as well as occasional shingle damage."

"The tornado would continue moving east toward Capital City Country Club Golf Course producing EF-1 damage by snapping numerous trees along the way and across the golf course. The tracks of both tornadoes moving through Tallahassee at this time converged at Capital City Country Club, with this tornado seemingly becoming the dominant circulation moving forward."

"As the tornado exited the golf course, very intense tree damage consistent with an EF-2 rating was observed as numerous trees were snapped at a height of around 75 feet. This most intense tree damage occurred from Country Club Dr. through the Indian Head Acres subdivisions."

"This is where the maximum estimated winds of 115mph most likely occurred. EF-1 damage would be observed through the remainder of its eastern trajectory as the tornado impacted Old St. Augustine Rd. It would go on producing EF-1 tree damage within the subdivision of Paradise Village East, Old Friends Rd, and areas along Southwood Plantation Rd before moving on to mostly forested areas north of Old St. Augustine Rd."

"The last concentrated area of EF-1 damage would be observed in neighborhoods along Louvinia Drive and WW Lee Road. The tornado would then continue east before uprooting a few trees along U.S. 27 as it crossed into Jefferson County, before dissipating around 7:14 a.m.

"The tornado reached its maximum width of 1,400 yard as it crossed Monroe St. in downtown Tallahassee and entered into the Capital City Country Club Golf Course."

Tornado #3: It crossed Lake Talquin before snapping trees and whipping through Woodville

  • Rating: EF-1 (Moderate tornado with 86-110 mph winds)
  • Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph
  • Path Length: 31.69 miles
  • Path Width: 1,100 yards
  • Start: 6:50 a.m. at Bloxham in Gadsden County
  • End: 7:13 a.m. near Natural Bridge in Leon County

"The tornado touched down near Lake Talquin Highway, just west of Lake Talquin, at approximately 6:50 a.m., promptly producing EF-0 tree damage. It then crossed Lake Talquin a few minutes later before moving ashore on the eastern shore of Lake Talquin where it produced EF-1 damage with several snapped and uprooted trees, some of which fell on two cars and a couple of houses."

"The tornado would then continue heading generally east-southeast with EF-1 damage across Blountstown Hwy and along and just south of Bloxham Cutoff Road before heading more east across Apalachicola National Forest, where downed and snapped trees were noted along some of the National Forest Roads."

"The tornado then crossed Springhill Road near the Trout Pond GF&A Trailhead, producing high-end EF-1 damage as it did so."

"The tornado then continued generally east-southeast towards US-319 near Oak Ridge Road W, continuing to produce high-end EF-1 damage. The tornado continued along Oak Ridge Road, producing EF-1 damage with several downed and snapped trees noted along the road."

"Another cluster of high- end EF-1 damage was noted on the west side of Woodville Hwy near Oak Ridge Road E. The tornado passed just north of Woodville Middle School, with numerous downed and snapped trees noted between Oak Ridge Rd E and Natural Bridge Road."

"The tornado crossed over Taff Road, where it continued to produce high-end EF-1 damage before moving over forest and farmland that was inaccessible to the survey team. Another cluster of snapped trees were noted along Old Plank Road, where the tornado was likely ongoing before lifting just east of Old Plank Road at approximately 7:13 a.m. The maximum width was around 1,100 yards along Celia Road, west of Woodville."
