This achievement represents a remarkable 30-fold rise over the same period in FY23 and doubles the underlying PBT from FY19. Corporate PBT increased significantly as well, at 53% to AUD$93 million. The Flight Centre Travel Group has reported strong mid-year financial results for the fiscal year 2024. Notably, FCM Asia has demonstrated a remarkable 44% rise in revenue. Fiscal Year 2024 Mid-Year Results Overview

Flight Center Travel Group has released strong mid-year financial statistics for the fiscal year 2024. Notably, FCM Asia has demonstrated a 44% growth in sales, making it a standout performer.

According to the firm, the underlying profit before tax (PBT) for the six months that ended December 31, 2023, was AUD$106 million. Notably, the leisure industry accomplished an underlying PBT of AUD$60 million, exceeding pre-pandemic levels and indicating a noteworthy thirty-fold gain from the first half result of the previous fiscal year.

Furthermore, due to consistent organic growth, the underlying corporate PBT increased by 53% to AUD$93 million.

Notable financial highlights include a 15% rise in total transaction value (TTV) to AUD$11.3 billion, which places FCTG second only to the FY20 first half in terms of start-to-year performance. The company’s varied brand portfolio and strategic activities helped corporate TTV reach a record AUD$5.9 billion, while leisure TTV soared to AUD$5.2 billion.

Revenue Surge in Asia: Insights from FCM Managing Director

Bertrand Saillet, FCM Managing Director, Asia, attributed the region’s achievements to strategic decisions, technology investments, and the application of Global Business Solutions to boost operational effectiveness.

“Strong performance in Southeast Asia, India, and the reopening of China has driven Asia’s revenue growth, which is a notable 44% increase,” stated Saillet. “Our success has been attributed to our strategic decisions to invest in technology, focus on our core business offerings, and consolidate. Additionally, we have used Global Business Solutions to boost automation, productivity, and operational efficiency.”

Corporate Business Performance Overview

Chris Galanty, Global Corporate CEO of Flight Centre Travel Group, commended the corporate enterprises for their strong global start, pointing out that they constituted 52% of the company’s total transaction value. Galanty highlighted record sales results across all geographic regions and underscored the requirement of strong client retention rates and considerable new account acquisitions in an industry that hasn’t fully recovered from pre-COVID transaction volumes.

“At the end of January 2024, our corporate brands had secured new accounts with estimated yearly spends of approximately $1.3 billion, with Corporate Traveller securing a mix of smaller, managed, and unmanaged accounts, and FCM Travel typically winning customers from competitors,” stated Galanty.

“We continue to make strides in the technology space with our Corporate Traveller Melon platform, which is being widely adopted in the USA and Canada and is growing quickly in the UK,” he said. This year, we project that all current clients will transition as the FCM Platform experiences growth.

Galanty continued her description of the company’s technological breakthroughs, citing the effective expansion of the FCM Platform and the pervasive usage of the Corporate Traveller Melon platform.

“We’re also advancing our corporate AI Center of Excellence, and as a result, new features have been added to the suite of products that are already available, improving our operational productivity and customer experience,” Galanty continued.

Galanty expressed optimism that, until the second half of FY24, it will be possible to keep up with anticipated innovations and global client onboarding programs. He underlined the company’s commitment to accurate and reliable strategies that put growth and effectiveness first.

India: A Promising Arena for Future Growth

As stated in FCM Travel Asia’s Mid-Year Results FY2024, “Asia has continued to outperform, with a significant 44% increase in revenue,” Bertrand Saillet, Managing Director, reiterated the favorable forecast for the Indian market.

“We are witnessing growth opportunities in India and Southeast Asia in FY2025, driven by strong performance across Southeast Asia, India, and the reopening of China,” he continued.

FCM Travel Solutions , Indian arm of Australia-headquartered Flight Centre Travel Group , is looking to achieve a turnover of Rs 4,000 crore during the current fiscal year, a top company official said.

The company which follows July to June fiscal year, had clocked a revenue of Rs 2,700 crore in the country in the financial year 2016-17.

"At FCM Travel Solutions we are aiming at achieving around 50 per cent growth this fiscal year. Our target this fiscal year is to reach a turnover of Rs 4,000 crore," FCM Travel Solutions Managing Director India Rakshit Desai told.

The company operates an extensive portfolio of businesses across leisure, corporate travel and forex, he added.

"55 per cent of our existing business is from corporate travel including SMEs and the remaining 45 per cent business is from leisure travel and forex," Desai added.

The travel firm is also looking to re-brand its travel retail and holiday brand - Flight Shop.

"We are re-branding our travel retail and holiday brand - Flight Shop to Travel Tours. The re-branding of all 25 Flight Shop stores spread in 17 cities in the country will be completed by January 31, 2018," Desai said.

Travel Tours has strong brand equity and heritage that will benefit the company when it expands its presence across the nation, he added.

The company had acquired the business interests of Travel Tours Group (TTG), in a cash and stock deal in October 2016, Desai said.

When asked how important is India for the Flight Centre Travel Group, he said: "For Flight Centre Travel Group Australia, India is one of the fastest growing market in their portfolio."

The accelerated economic growth of the country ranks the Indian chapter as one of the top five countries for the company's global growth, he added.

5 Minutes With...FCM Team

Time and time again, it's our people that customers praise. so we thought, it's time to introduce some of them to you , we quizzed the fcm team on their day-to-day roles, what they find interesting about their jobs and about their hometowns. .

Sam Revell - FCM

Sam Revell, Global Head Of Solution Design

Time with fcm: 9 years.

What does your day usually look like?

My days generally involve a mixture of managing the global solution design team and running global internal business improvement projects. Solution Design is the team that really absorbs themselves in our clients’ businesses to understand the current and future state of their business travel. Another part of my role is workshopping key aspects of travel programmes with new and prospective multi-national clients.

What do you find really interesting about your role?

Managing a global team gives me access to a variety of cultures and ways of working, which I always find fascinating. I also find that no two clients are the same, even if they are in the same industry, so learning about their priorities and plans for the future is always very interesting.

What's your best tip for combatting jet lag?

Drink one glass of water for every two alcoholic drinks .

What's your favourite business travel destination & when were you last there?

Dubai - it's been a few years but I'll be back there again next month . Tell us your 'must visit' place for a time strapped business traveller in your home town/city?

My nearest city is Birmingham. I'd recommend dropping by The Wellington pub if you're a fan of real ale. It's right by New Street station so you can make it part of the journey home.

Trudie Earle - FCM

Trudie Earle, Events and Partnerships Manager

Time at flight centre: 8 years.

No two days are the same! From finalising agenda items, to getting content recorded, to nurturing relationships with suppliers and key contacts such as BTN and GBTA. Recently my biggest focus has been pulling together the inaugural Th!nk event, and as you can imagine there are A LOT of moving parts.

Events and partner activity is really one of the first opportunities we get to interact clients/prospects in a more subtle way. It's not a meeting, it's not an RFP. We're simply here, showing up to showcase FCM as a thought leader in the industry, and that's exciting.

Stay up ALL day when you arrive during the day. When I fly to Australia, I plan a brunch or lunch as soon as I arrive so I've got something to look forward to (and stay awake for!). The Grounds of Alexandria are my go-to as they're near Sydney Airport.

Tell us your 'must visit' place for a time strapped business traveller in your home town/city.

I've got two home cities! In London, you've got to head to Mercato Mayfair for a casual meal or drink. The cellars are great for charcuterie and wine and it's in an old, disused church so that's a statement for sure. In Sydney, it has to be Opera Bar. Sure, it's touristy, but for good reason! There's nothing better than sipping cocktails overlooking gorgeous Sydney Harbour.

Graham Ross - FCM

Graham Ross, Programme Optimisation Director

I'm about 50/50 on building and designing a strategy for this area of the business long term, and firefighting the large number of customers we have in conversation around new contracts and/or programme changes.

It's new! The theory behind it is so important for our evolution and everyone I explain it to says "I like this - why don't we do this already!" The reality is, it encompasses so many things we do bits of, but the need to streamline and improve this area is HUGE.

All-nighters - make your body so tired it doesn't matter what time zone it thinks it's in.

What's your favourite business travel destination and when were you last there?

Oooooooh - business travel destination almost certainly NYC and haven't been since 2018!!

Tell us your 'must visit' place for a time strapped business traveller in your home town/city?

My home town is a very small place called Doune in Scotland. Not much to it but you should visit the castle - where Outlander was filmed (and also a famous Monty Python scene...)

David Sykes - FCM

David Sykes, Technical Lead, Europe

What's your job role at FCM, and what does your day usually look like?

My role is a combination of solutions engineering and sales; I support our sales directors and account managers in presenting and discussing our tech solutions with prospective and existing customers. I also look after gathering feedback from those customers on our tech, to help identify our gaps, and influence and shape our future roadmaps.

I like finding new problems, and then solving them. So the most interesting thing is when a customer comes to us with a problem we've never had to solve before, and then working out how we can use our technology to support them.

I love Paris as a business travel destination for two main reasons. One, you can get there by Eurostar from London which is very comfortable and good for the environment. Two, every time I go I am always treated to a lovely French dinner with lots of great wine by either my clients or colleagues. The last time I was there was in November for a client presentation.

Tell us your 'must visit' place for a time strapped business traveller in your home town/city. There is a bar on the fifth floor of the Royal Festival Hall on the Southbank in London. It's relatively unknown so you can avoid the usual crowds, the drinks are surprisingly inexpensive, and the views over the Thames are fantastic.

Ryan Bradnock FCM

Ryan Bradnock, Global Head of Implementations

Time at fcm: 11 years  .

No day is the same, but it’s usually lots of interactions and meetings with our clients.

What do you find interesting about your role?

There’s always new challenges and no project ever the same.

Exercise and whiskey.

I love Kuala Lumpur and the last time I was there was three years ago.

In Bristol I would say Clifton Village for a beer and bite to eat. Wallfish is a particular favourite restaurant of mine, and the Quandrant pub for a cider.
