Packers Heritage Trail takes visitors on a journey through Green Bay’s history

GREEN BAY, Wis.  –– Packers fans visiting Green Bay have a chance to learn the story of the franchise by visiting the places that played a crucial role in team history.

The Packers Heritage Trail is a less than 3-mile walking tour with dozens of sites marked revealing the team’s history in the city.

It starts at the Neville Public Museum on the western riverbank of the Fox River and contains a plaque describing the trail, and a map of all the sites in downtown.

Walking toward east over the river and you reach the second then third site, but not before coming across the Heritage Trail Plaza. It’s on the corner of Washington and Cherry and has statues of significant figures in franchise history. This is typically a popular spot for tourists to take photos.

Stop number three is significant. It is the site of the former building of the city’s newspaper, the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The plaque reveals the location to be the birthplace of the Packers.

It was in the paper’s editorial department a meeting was held to establish the team on Aug. 11, 1919. Three days later the paper referred to the team as the Packers for the first time.

That just scratches the surface of what fans can see and learn. The trail is comprised of three legs. There’s the City Walk consisting of 17 landmarks. There’s the Packing Plant Spur which is a seven mile, round-trip, self-guided bicycle tour.

Lastly there’s the Lambeau - Lombardi Spur. That is comprised of a seven 1/2-mile bicycle tour with several sites significant to legendary coach Vince Lombardi and co-founder Curly Lambeau.

The trail can be enjoyed at no cost by foot, bike, and vehicle, or for $35 a person on a 90-minute trolley tour.

Trolley is the new way to tour the Packers Heritage Trail GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - City leaders are rolling out the latest way to learn about Packers history. It's the Packers Heritage Trail Trolley Tours , which will begin July 19th and departing from the Resch Center. Riders will travel the new Packers Heritage Trail on a 90 minute tour. There will be 22 stops guided by the players from Let Me Be Frank Productions. "In particular during training camp it'll be a great attraction for us," says Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Brad Toll. "The heritage trail was very popular last year, now we have a way that people can tour it and learn beyond just reading the plaques, so we've been able to expand the attraction." The tours run through August 17th. Organizers say private tours are offered year round. Tickets go on sale May 16th and are $25.

• Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time to obtain your tickets at the Packers Hall of Fame front desk in the Lambeau Field Atrium.
• Tours leave promptly at the scheduled tour time. Late individuals CANNOT join a tour that is already in progress. 
• Tickets are ONLY valid for the date and the time you select. Tickets will NOT be refunded for late or missed tours, nor will tickets be rescheduled. 
• Remember to select tickets for everyone in your party, including children 5 years of age and under. While their Hall of Fame and Stadium Tour admission is free, they do still need tickets.
• Hall of Fame admission is valid for one time use and can be redeemed up to one year from the date of purchase.
• Tickets cannot be resold or transferred.
• Tour routes are subject to change based on Lambeau Field operations and events.
• Online transactions have a maximum of 15 tickets per transaction. Groups of more 20 or more should contact group sales at 920-569-7129.

Tickets for Lambeau Field stadium tours on home game weekends now available for purchase

Tickets and times available for classic, champions, heritage trail trolley and alumni tours.

With football season now underway, reservations are now open for Lambeau Field stadium tours during home game weekends.

Tour tickets are now available for purchase online for Fridays through Mondays of Sunday home game weekends, Saturdays through Tuesdays for Monday home game weekends, and Thursdays through Sundays for Saturday home game weekends.

To purchase tickets, guests can visit packershofandtours.com and click 'buy tickets' to find the date or weekend in which they are interested.

Available tours include Classic Tours, Champions Tours, Heritage Trail Trolley Tours, Alumni Tours. Tour routes and Alumni are subject to change. Alumni giving tours on various days over the next two months include: Charlie Peprah, Erik Walden, Doug Pederson, Ahman Green, Donald Lee, Brett Swain and Bubba Franks.

The alumni tours, which follow the 60-minute Classic Stadium Tour route, are each led by a tour guide and by the featured alumnus, who will add stories, perspectives and insights to the already-informative and historical stadium tours. Dates and names of former players taking part in the tours are listed under 'Alumni Tour Tickets' in the 'Lambeau Field Stadium Tours' section on packershofandtours.com .

For those who want to take a tour and also visit the Packers Hall of Fame, combination pricing is available, with stadium tours and Hall of Fame admission combined. Ultimate Tour Packages are also available, which include Hall of Fame Admission, a Stadium Tour and a Heritage Trail Trolley Tour. Hall of Fame admission is valid for one entry and can be used any day.
