Spanning 18,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness, the reserve is graced by the winding Bushman’s River. Amakhala stands as a testament to successful conservation efforts and active community involvement.

Tucked away in a secluded corner of Amakhala Game Reserve, HillsNek Safari Camp is affectionately known as the “small” camp with the “greatest” heart. With a total of only four rooms, this family-operated lodge embodies personalized service, meticulous attention to detail, and genuine warmth in hospitality.

We took advantage of the residents’ special and were so pleased that we chose Hillsneck. The tents were lovely (maybe a fan for hot days though), the drives fantastic, the food great, and the elephants in the pool breathtaking. Thank you to the entire Hillsneck team for a wonderful break.

There are only 4 tents at this lodge and so it feels incredibly special and intimate. This set up makes you feel like you’re a bit of a celebrity with your own private chef and ranger! Chantelle made us feel like the most important guests from the start of the booking process and the staff on site just continue with that theme throughout.

Located in the Amakhala Game Reserve, this lodge is set on the banks of Bushman’s River. It features an outdoor pool and luxurious tented chalets with panoramic views of the plains. HillsNek Safaris has spacious tents with a private bathroom and outside shower. Each tent is elegantly decorated with wooden furniture, and offers a fan and tea-and-coffee-making facilities. The Amakhala Game Reserve is known for its incredible beauty and the incredible amount of wildlife that call the malaria-free Eastern Cape bush home.

Amakhala houses the renowned Big Five, which is made up of an elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, and buffalo. As well as the Big Five, Amakhala is also home to zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, antelope, cheetah, warthogs and a stunning array of colourful birds, that can be heard chirping and fluttering overhead, providing a soundtrack to your safari.

Each accommodation in Amakhala provides guests with personalized activities that can be enjoyed with the accommodation serving as a base. Safari Lodge offers each of their guests’ two stunning safaris a day. Guests will embark on two jam-packed safari adventures with trained guides who know just where to find some of the best wildlife South Africa has to offer.
