Dr. Jones has an engineering background and found the field of cardiology, and more specific electrophysiology, very data driven. It’s rewarding to use medications and procedures to change the electrical properties of the heart pump to improve an individual’s quality of life, and sometimes cure abnormal heart rhythms.

His goal is to help patients achieve their best quality of life and will listen to patients and families and inform them regarding current therapies so they can make a decision that best meets their needs and future goals.

When he exited a career in the military after 21 years, he and his wife wanted to move to a location they could see themselves retiring and has four seasons as they enjoy outdoor activities including boating, skiing, and hiking. Dr. Jones and his wife also enjoy sharing the love of the outdoors with their kids who are involved in volleyball, band, and skeet shooting. His wife is from Washington state and his uncle lives in Sandpoint so they made a family decision to venture back to the Northwest.

I have had the opportunity to practice medicine in multiple states to include Alaska and most recently Mississippi. I was able to start up two electrophysiology programs in two different hospital systems when I decided to leave the hurricanes behind and venture to the great Northwest.

Estonian PM Warns of Russia's Covert Operations and Calls for Western Unity in Response

E stonia’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has raised alarms over Russia’s covert operations – a “shadow war” – against Western nations, calling for a collective and coordinated response to Moscow’s subversive activities. Her stark warning comes amid a rise in sabotage, electronic warfare, and espionage attributed to Russia, as the war in Ukraine swings in Moscow’s favor, prompting heightened defenses across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, and Poland.

Kallas’s concerns are not unfounded. A series of disturbing incidents across Europe have hinted at a larger pattern of Russian interference. In Poland, for example, Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed the arrest of at least nine individuals suspected of beatings and arson directed by Russian secret services. In Estonia itself, a university professor has been arrested on espionage charges, and 13 people were detained over attacks believed to be orchestrated by Russian military intelligence.

The incidents are seen as part of a broader strategy by the Kremlin, employing hybrid warfare tactics that go beyond conventional military engagement. These strategies include cyberattacks, election interference, disinformation, and the targeting of individuals opposed to President Vladimir Putin. As Kallas put it, the West must have a “serious discussion of a coordinated approach.” “How far do we let them go on our soil?” she urged.

Western officials and experts acknowledge that many Russian intelligence operatives are already sanctioned, but suggest that Moscow is shifting tactics. In lieu of direct involvement, the Kremlin is purportedly outsourcing operations to a motley crew of intermediaries—ranging from local criminals to disillusioned youth—recruited on platforms as ubiquitous as video gaming networks and social media. This approach complicates efforts to trace these activities back to Russia and makes it challenging to demonstrate a direct connection between seemingly isolated events.

The outsourcing of espionage and sabotage has placed civilians at risk and led to unintended consequences. A chilling example is the case of Bulgarian investigative journalist Christo Grozev, who was targeted following his work exposing Russian intelligence operations. A former Austrian intelligence officer was arrested for allegedly supplying Grozev’s address to Russian intelligence, leading to a break-in at his home. Such incidents underscore the personal risks faced by those who challenge the Russian state.

A coordinated response from Western nations is hindered by the lack of a collective mechanism to deal with these hybrid threats. Estonian officials advocate for the European Union to take more decisive action, including limiting visas for Russian envoys and implementing separate sanctions to counter such threats. Kallas also emphasizes the importance of sharing information about these activities openly and among allies.

The response Estonia seeks involves not just punitive measures but also preventative ones. By naming and shaming individuals involved in these operations, it reduces their anonymity and the security that comes with it. Moreover, sanctions and restricted travel and study opportunities might deter younger Russians from joining intelligence services.

The underlying motive, according to Kallas and other Estonian officials, is Russia’s ambition to “sow fear” and weaken Western support for Kyiv. Jonatan Vseviov, secretary general of Estonia’s Foreign Ministry, further argues that Putin intends to use every available tool to “undermine our unity, collapse our policy and destroy the collective West, as we know it, as a functioning body.”

MOSCOW (Reuters) -Russia's top arms control diplomat dismissed as "fake news" on Wednesday an assertion by the United States that Russia had launched a weapon into low-Earth orbit that was capable of inspecting and attacking other satellites.

The Kremlin has flatly denied assertions by U.S. officials that Moscow is developing a space-based anti-satellite nuclear weapon.

U.S. Space Command on Tuesday pointed to the launch earlier this month of a Soyuz rocket from Russia's Plesetsk launch site, saying it likely involved "a counterspace weapon presumably capable of attacking other satellites in low Earth orbit".

Russia's defence ministry said the May 17 launch had a spacecraft on board but gave no details what it was for.

"I don't think we should respond to any fake news from Washington," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.

"The Americans can say whatever they want but our policy does not change from this," said Ryabkov, adding that Moscow had "always consistently opposed the deployment of strike weapons in low-Earth orbit".

President Vladimir Putin and then-defence minister Sergei Shoigu denied U.S. assertions in February that Russia was developing a space-based anti-satellite nuclear weapon designed to disrupt everything from military communications to phone-based ride services.

U.S. Space Command said the May launch, which it dates as May 16, included COSMOS 2576, a type of Russian military "inspector" spacecraft that U.S. officials have long said exhibits reckless space behaviour.

INTERNATIONAL LAW

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined specific comment on the U.S. assertion but said Russia acted in full accordance with international law.

"We are not violating anything. We have repeatedly advocated a ban on the deployment of any weapons into space. Unfortunately, our initiatives were rejected, including by the United States," Peskov told reporters.

U.S. intelligence agencies had been expecting the launch of COSMOS 2576 and informed allies of their assessment of the satellite before its deployment in space, according to a U.S. official familiar with the intelligence. The launch also included civilian satellites deployed to different orbits.

COSMOS 2576, as of Tuesday, has not gone near a U.S. satellite, but space analysts observed it to be in the same orbital ring as USA 314, a bus-sized NRO satellite launched in April 2021.

Ryabkov said Russia's space programme was developing as planned, including tasks aimed at strengthening defence capability but added that "this is also not news".

He said the United States was wrong to have dismissed Russian proposals on strengthening the security of space activities, including a proposal on developing a treaty on preventing an arms race in space.
