Kevin Gates (born February 5, 1986) is the stage name of Kevin Gilyard, an American rapper and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.

Gates’ musical endeavours began when he started rapping in 2007 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he grew up. Along with fellow Louisiana rappers Webbie and Lil Boosie, Gates first drew attention to himself with the 2008 single “Get in the Way” featuring Lil Boosie. Influenced by the likes of Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and Nas, since 2007 the rapper has been known for his time on the mixtape circuit releasing a string of mixtapes including 2007’s “Pick Of Da Litter”, 2008’s “All Or Nuthin”, 2009’s “All In”, and 2010’s “Behind Enemy Lines” and “The Leak”.

Shortly after his single “Get in the Way” Gates got sent to jail until 2011, upon his release he immediately returned to recording music, which included the mixtapes “I Don’t Know What to Call it Vol. 1 (2011), “Make ‘Em Believe” (2012) and “In The Mean Time” (2012). 2012 also brought a number of collaborations for the rapper including work with Juvenile and French Montana.

It was in 2013 however where Kevin Gates really blew up with his mixtape “The Luca Brasi Story” which became instantly popular, being downloaded over 130,000 times and resulted in Gates appearing on high-profile mixtapes for Pusha T, Slim Thug and Gudda Gudda. It wasn’t long before he signed to the major label Atlantic after completing his contract with the indie imprint label Breadwinner by releasing the well-received album “Stranger Than Fiction”, featuring artists Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J. The album debuted at No. 37 in the Billboard 200 and led to the rapper being named part of the 2014 XXL Freshman Class.

Its was Amazing!:) Loved Kevin Gates aka Luci Brasi of course... This was our first time attending one of his concerts and we'd definitely go again! I was sad that Rod Wave didn't perform but maybe I'll catch him elsewhere.:( The in between performers were okay. YK Osiris was very good and comical too. I enjoyed the way he told his story in a musical way and the graphics were... Sad we were trying to escape the cold & rain went off and left our can goods In the car so we wasn't able to get a memorabilia shirt. There also wasnt any vendors inside nor outside(of course) selling shirts and gear for the concert... Thanks for a fun night at Novo! (Fisrt time at the venue also). Can't wait for the next show!!! :) :) :) (Hopefully with Roddy Ricch, Rod Wave, YK Osiris, Chris Brown, Tory Lanez, Sada Baby and any other great artists)... I had emojis to tell my story but had to erase them :(

When Kevin Gates reached the stage his performance was unique! Not only did he capture the audience but he showed everyone love! He's a great performer and will keep you on your toes at all times. In the middle of his performance unlike others I've been to he came down off stage and interacted with the crowd! Not just the front but to the back of the club and back. This venue may not have been huge but it felt like a coming home party and every one had a good time. I can't wait to see him in future performances.

Well honestly the club in corpus Christi was not organized at all for the event and I didn't realize you were not going to be on stage til late but I am so excited that I got to see you live n person that made my whole year I believe you are great artist and ur always you bt the future u hold the key ur gonna b greater than great I will b at as many concerts as I can afford I am a huge fan thanks for an awesome performance thanx ur amazingly perfect

Oh my God this is my second time seeing him but I was not as close as I was on yesterday, and I liked to come unglued, when he walked out on stage he put on a great show from start to finish I, could listen to him all night while he preform his hits. I already have my ticket for November 15th, before I knew he was coming yesterday and I jumped on getting VIP tickets to see him. A true fan for life...❤️❤️❤️

This show was absolutely dope! I had been looking forward to this concert for a month and was not disappointed. Solo Lucci and OG Boobie Black came on before Kevin Gates and their performances were rockin! The venue made the concert very intimate which made the concert even better. I would highly recommend seeing him in concert if he's coming to your city!

The concert was fantastic. It was great to meet kevin before the concert, and shake his hand after. 10/10. The only thing I didn't like was all of the local performers to open. I went to a previous Gates concert before this one, and there wasnt any local performers at all. Still had a lot of fun though, and loved the Kevin Gates performance.

He was 2 hours late for his own show. Which we heard was normal for him... We almost left... Was pretty hype once he got there though. I would like to see him in concert again just hoping he'll actually be closer to being on time. All the standing around and waiting with an empty stage felt like a waste of time.

I loved to see him, but my seat was so far back! I barely could see him! Overall, I love that man lol!!! He had great stage audience and I loved that fact that he prayed at a concert! Never experienced an audience praying at a concert. I will see him in August in Memphis so I'm READY!!!!

Kevin Gates!!!!!!! The show was awesome, I had the time of my life last night!! He did his thing, the crowd was perfect, and the atmosphere was just right! I was hyped for the remainder of the night because of his performance! Kevin was amazing!

The massive North American headlining tour will kick off on June 19th in Orlando, Florida and run cross-country with appearances at Bonnaroo and headlining dates in major markets like New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and many more.

The Louisiana rapper continuesto maintain his prolific status with an onslaught of steady releases. “PlugDaughter 2” (48.5 million streams) recently arrived alongside an officialvideo filmed in Puerto Rico, which amassed over 26.2 million views. ONLYTHE GENERALS PART II   was recorded in PuertoRico in celebration of Gates’ family heritage, highlighted by “Puerto Rico Luv” (15.9million streams, 5.9 million views) and “Cartel Swag” (27.8million streams, 6.1 million views). Sampling Dermot Kennedy’s “PowerOver Me,” Gates debuted “Power”(100 million streams) at the tail end of 2020 with a sensual companion visualfeaturing Dreka Gates and boasting over 33.1 million views. “Power”was preceded by “Weeks”(27 million streams), whose charming official visual garneredover 10.8 million views.

Kevin Gates Recorded Spitting In Fan’s Mouth On Opening Night Of His Tour

Kevin Gates has made a reputation for himself as a man who has no problem talking about — or even demonstrating — vulgar or disturbing acts, even if it may make others uncomfortable.

The Baton Rouge rapper did just that when he gestured for a female fan to come on stage with him during the opening night of his Only The Generals Tour in Virgina.

Gates prompted her to sit down, tilted her head back, and let out a wad of spit into her mouth. Gates’ actions caused the crowd to go berserk, and he proceeded to continue rapping while the fan processed what just took place.

Gates and  BigXThaPlug will be making tour stops in cities such as St. Louis, San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston before wrapping up in Greensboro, North Carolina on December 16. You can purchase your tickets here .

The “2 Phones” rapper has made headlines recently for his sexually-charged statements.

During a June 2022 interview with Bootleg Kev, Gates broke down his “Super General” freestyle , which found him spitting the controversial bars, “ Ain’t no disrespect to Jigga/Met through Nipsey, that’s my n-gga/Don’t know if they in the swingin’, Beyoncé need to let me hit her/Make her piss all on this dick, respectfully, her body shiver .”

Bootleg Kev asked Gates much flak he received for that line at the time, to which he replied, “Ain’t nobody say nothing to me. To be honest — and this with all due respect — that’s one of the most beautiful women in the world. I sit in the trap with all the monsters; they said the same thing. All I did was say what everybody think.

“You’re the most beautiful woman in the world. I would drink your piss. Like, what the fuck? Come on, man. Right here in my mouth. I speak for the n-gga’s that incarcerated that sit there and watch these people on TV and everything. This is what everybody thinking.”

Then in May, he took to Instagram and shared a graphic clip of a live birth on social media.

“The Most Beautiful thing on earth is the gift of Life [palms up together and heart hands emojis],” Gates captioned the clip, which shows a mother delivering her baby into the father’s hands.

The blowback was swift, with many unsuspecting fans sending out warnings to those who had yet to stumble on Gates’ now-deleted IG Story.

“Don’t watch Kevin gates insta story don’t do it,” warned one fan on social media, while another echoed that sentiment and wrote: “ DO NOT LOOK AT  KEVIN GATES  INSTAGRAM STORY. TRUST ME.”

“Why did I watch Kevin gates story,” one disgruntled fan wrote, alongside a clip of Rick and Morty sobbing.
