NYC Hot Tub Tours

manhattan hot tub boat tour

You may already know that one great way to see New York City is from the water, whether you join a sightseeing cruise, ride the free Staten Island Ferry, or take on one of NYC’s commuter ferries.

Now you can get amazing views of NYC from a hot tub!

When you take Sea The City’s Hot Tub Tour, you’ll climb aboard a 40-foot boat equipped with two hot tubs that fit up to ten people each.

During the 90-minute boat ride, you can relax in a jacuzzi as the boat heads south along the Hudson River and circles Liberty Island for up-close views of the Statue of Liberty .

You will also have stunning views of the Manhattan skyline and the Hudson River.

view from Staten Island Ferry

The tour departs from Liberty Landing Marina, located in Jersey City, just ten minutes from Manhattan by public transportation via the New Jersey Path train.

You can also get to Jersey City by ferries that depart from Battery Park City and Wall Street Pier 11 , and Midtown Manhattan .

If you choose, you can bring alcohol onboard (provided that group members are 21 and over). This includes beer, wine, and hard seltzers but hard liquor is not allowed. You’ll be provided with ice, cups and a cooler.

The boat has a large bathroom and a separate changing room. But bring a towel unless you want to rent one on the boat.

The hot tubs are professionally maintained and chlorinated spas, so you can feel good about the level of cleanliness.

In addition to the Captain, deckhands are on board to assist our guests. Our 40’ Coast Guard-certified vessel is operated by a USCG licensed Master Captain.

Booking Your Hot Tub Boat Tour

There are three ways to book your hot tub tour:

1. You can reserve one of the two hot tubs for your private group which fits up to ten people, though this means that you will be sharing the boat with another group of people.

2. Another option is to book for only a person or two, but it’s likely that you will be sharing a hot tub with other people aboard.

3. Lastly, the other option is to rent the entire boat for yourself for a private party of up to 20 people.

Host an unforgettable party as your guests will never forget seeing the New York City skylines while soaking in a relaxing jacuzzi!

Note that in all three cases, advance booking is required and you can book up to 5 hours before departure.

Given that this is the only Hot Tub Boat tour in NYC, you may not want to wait until the last minute to book.

We recommend that prior to booking you take a look on Groupon for ticket concessions as they pop up from time to time.

The Best Way to See the Statue of Liberty Is From This Hot Tub Boat

You’ve never seen NYC like this.

Tanner Saunders is a Brooklyn-based travel editor and writer who has worked for Travel + Leisure , The Points Guy , Thrillist , and more.

manhattan hot tub boat tour

I can't speak for everyone living in New York , but the sight of the Statue of Liberty still makes me feel giddy. For me, each sighting is a reminder that I live in the center of the universe, in the city that never sleeps, and a rich and storied place that people around the world dream of calling home. Everyone who visits should take a moment to see it, and the best way to do it? Sitting in a hot tub on a boat cruising the Hudson River.

Yes, you read that right. You can take a hot tub boat tour to the Statue of Liberty thanks to the New Jersey based company Sea the City . Just a quick ferry ride from downtown Manhattan, Sea the City offers 90-minutes cruises on a large boat with two hot tubs each featuring individual sound systems, coolers to bring your own wine or beer, and breathtaking views of Lady Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.

Recently, with a very special friend visiting NYC for the first time, it felt like the perfect opportunity to join the highly-Instagrammable boat ride for a mid-July cruise. Like me at first, you're probably wondering, who in their right mind would want to sit in a hot tub in New York muggy July heat. Well, fear not, the temperature of the water is dropped in the summer to 101 degrees Fahrenheit (down from 104 in the cooler months), and once you're cruising on the river the outside temperature is lower and everything feels just right. And if you do start to feel toasty, simply pop up on the sitting ledge to keep your feet in and feel the misty breeze on your face.

For my crew, every single moment in the hot tub boat was an Instagram-worthy moment, and the opportunity to reflect on the beauty of New York City. While conversation and rosé flowed, we snapped pics of ourselves and the skyline, our hard seltzers and the Statue of Liberty, and doubled down on the notion that NYC is unbeatable. The crew, ultra-friendly and hospitable, kept our bottles in a safe place and pointed out sights we didn't know about. Other boats, mostly filled with tourists, snapped pics of us and waved from a distance.

Operating from mid-March to New Year's Day, Sea the City is the perfect way to get an unforgettable look at NYC, or a very special way to celebrate a special occasion. The boat has two specially-built hot tubs and the experience can be booked by the tub (when we cruised another friendly group was in the other hot tub) or by the boat. For semi-private groups each tub can hold 8 people, but if booked privately the tubs can hold up to ten each. Conveniently, there's a bathroom on board and the boat is operated by a United States Coast Guard licensed Master Captain. At the Marina, located in Jersey City, New Jersey, there are facilities to change and use the restroom, and the boat itself has special boxes to protect your belongings from the water.

Tours on Sea the City's hot tub boats start at $449 for a semi-private booking or $2,199 for a weekend booking. During the weekend the prices go up to $999 for a semi-private booking or $2,499 for a private booking. But hey, if you divide that up by a group of eight, you might just spend the same amount on a nice dinner or one of NYC's many kitschy tourist attractions.

As Travel + Leisure's experiences editor, I've been lucky to get to do some very special things, from getting a green tea spa treatment after hiking the Great Wall of China to sipping cocktails in a bar 35,000 feet above the sky — but I have to say, this experience was one of my all time favorites. And get ready Miami, Sea the City is launching in December and plans to operate all year long.

Our experience on the hot tub boat tour in New York City!

manhattan hot tub boat tour

You know I LOVE boat tours in NYC, seeing the Manhattan skyline from the Hudson or East River is pure magic and it never gets old, even though I’ve been living here for over 10 years, I will always say yes to this kind of experience.

I’ve talked about a bunch of them on the blog and on my instagram but the one I’m sharing today is different from all the other ones and I might say it might be my favorite, at least in the summer!

I was invited by Sea The City to experience their Hot Tub Boat Tour , a 90 minute boat ride along the Hudson River that will take your breath away, stopping in front of iconic places in NYC!

What you need to know:

  • The boat has two hot tubs, each tub can accommodate up to 10 people. You can either book both tubs if you have a larger group or one for up to 10 guests.
  • They don’t mix groups, so only you and your party will be sharing the same hot tub.
  • The tour lasts 90 minutes. We booked the 8pm slot and it was PERFECT, we saw the sunset and the city coming to life at night with all the lights. It was beautiful (photos are here to confirm!)
  • How much does the hot tub boat tour cost? Prices vary according to the day of the week, hour and number of people. We were a group of 10 and if we were to split equally, each person would have to pay about $130 (not including tax and fees and gratuity – we tipped U$15-20 per person).
  • I saved my experience on my instagram REELS, click HERE to watch!

manhattan hot tub boat tour

  • You can bring your own drinks (BYOB) – beer and/or wine! Much cheaper than most tours when you have to pay for drinks. They offer cups (photos above) and coolers, so don’t worry and enjoy the ride!
  • You can play your own music, so get your playlist ready, they can connect your phone via bluetooth!
  • You must be 13+ to ride.
  • Use my code MARTHA TOWELS to get free towels for your ride, very convenient, so you don’t need to worry about carrying one and then taking it back home wet. Simply insert the code in the comment box when booking your experience on the Sea the City website.
  • The hot tub was very clean and they guarantee they clean it very well. We had zero problems with that.
  • The boat departs from Jersey City and the best way to get there is to drive and park (paid parking available – we paid $7 for 2 hours) or take the PATH train + Uber/taxi/Lyft (about 10 minutes). You can also take the Liberty Landing ferry in Downtown Manhattan (U$7 each way).
  • There is a bathroom and a changing room on the boat and a large plastic bin to put everyone’s belongings. I don’t recommend bringing too much stuff if you have a large group, just to make things easier if you need to grab something during the tour. There are also some hooks available if you need to hang towels/shirts by the hot tub.
  • Yes, even if it rains you can go on the tour. There are canvas covers to protect from heavy rain and is comfortable and enjoyable regardless of precipitation (according to their website, it wasn’t raining when we went). Plus, you will be wet from the hot tub anyway. But you can change your booking date for free with at least 48 hours notice.
  • Don’t be late! Arrive at least 15 minutes before and bring a photo ID.

When booking feel free to use my code MARTHA TOWELS, I make a small commission when you do that and you get free towels! Thank you for supporting my work! And thanks for having us Sea the City!

In NYC, there are dinner cruises , sunset jazz cruises , sightseeing cruises, and even thrill-ride cruises...so it should be no surprise that the city also has a hot tub cruise.

That's right, you can sail down the Hudson River in a hot tub as you pass Lady Liberty and all of Manhattan's skyscrapers.

RECOMMENDED: This insane thrill ride on the Hudson River is back

Sea the City 's Hot Tub Boat Tours is NYC's first and only hot tub boat tour and claims to provide "the most luxurious 90 minutes in NYC." One thing's for sure—it's a unique and relaxing way to see the city.

Claire Leaden

There are many ways you can explore NYC from its waterways: by sail boat, by jet ski, by kayak. And now you can add hot tub to that list!

Yes, you read that right. New York jet ski company Sea the City has launched these incredible floating hot tubs — a 40′ boat equipped with two bubbling hot tubs for your sailing-around-NYC pleasure!

The company had them custom-made and launched the experience just last year:

View this post on Instagram

Each tub holds up to eight people, and the tour around the Hudson River, which allows for stunning views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty, lasts 90 minutes.

The boat also includes a large bathroom and separate changing room, and in addition to its USCG licensed Master Captain, a deckhand is on board to assist guests.

The websites says that health standards are consistent with CDC guidelines, and the tubs are professionally maintained, chlorinated spas.

Plus they run through New Year’s Day, so you can enjoy the cold weather while soaking in your toasty tub! Towel and robe rentals are also available.

It’s BYOB (beer and wine) for 21+, to fully embrace that relaxation state-of-mind (coolers and ice are provided). You can also book out the entire thing for a group of people.

Now you can see NYC from a boat with hot tubs

One of the must-do activities in New York City is seeing the city from the water. Since 2020, you have a new and extravagant way to do that: Hot Tub Tours.

The hot tub boat carries two, ten-person commercial grade hot tubs, and is bookable by the tub (up to 10 people) or by the boat (up to 20 people). The amenities include a large bathroom and a separate changing room.

Tours run every day, at different times, from 10 am to 10 pm and they are 90 minutes in length. The boat departs from the Marina going down the Hudson River providing views of the Manhattan skyline and heads towards, of course, the Statue of Liberty.

The experience

Did I mention that the tours are BYOB? Yeah, you can bring your bottles of wine or beer (hard liquor is not allowed) and they provide coolers, ice, and cups for you.

Besides the amazing skyline of the city, you will get to see the Statue of Liberty. The boat spends a good amount of time in front of the Statue, so you can take a lot of pictures.

Instead of booking a hot tub boat tour in NYC, you can always look for boat rentals.

Among the best websites to rent a boat is from GetMyBoat, Inc., launched in 2013 in San Francisco , California.

It is a website and an app available in 184 countries with 150,000 boat listings worldwide.

One of the listings with an available hot tub on a boat is from a user named Avi in the post Throw A HOT TUB PARTY on the HUDSON !

In this listing, he has already garnered 86 bookings and received a 5/5-star review from four people. Here’s what you need to know about the listing:

Package Options of the Listing

The price starts at $495 per hour which requires a minimum of two hours per booking.

For every booking you make, you get an additional one hour as their Manhattan summer midweek sunset deal.

GetMyBoat 3

You also have to pay several fees, including the captain fee of $75 per hour, the captain mate fee of $25 per hour, the deckhand fee of $25 per hour, and the fuel fee of $145 per hour.

Aside from the basic fees, you are asked to give a 10% gratitude payment.

Check with the owner if you need to also pay for a boarding or facility fee as indicated in their listing.

Moreover, the prices may be higher if you book on major holidays.

What Is Included in the Listing?

The package is for a maximum of 12 customers only.

You can choose from their selection of captains, including Captain Drew Hillman, Captain Joyce Rice, Captain George Williams, and Captain Glenn Simpson.

GetMyBoat 2

The boat includes only one tub and several amenities such as a BBQ, bar, toilet, and life jackets for safety.

How to Book for the Listing

To complete the booking, a refundable $1,000 deposit must be made.

The rest of the bill is paid after the rental schedule which may include damage charges if needed.

Ask the owner about the booking by sending an inquiry through GetMyBoat’s inquiry form.

You need to indicate the duration, preferred date and time, group size, specific requests, and contact details.

GetMyBoat 1

After sending an inquiry, the owner will get back to you with a customized pricing offer according to your request.

If you agree with the offer and the terms and conditions, you can pay for the booking via credit card.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to book a hot tub boat nyc tour.

Hot tub boat NYC tours are available all year round. Since the hot tub water temperature can be adjusted, you can enjoy it in both winter and summer seasons.

Whether you are a morning person or a night owl, the tour is best enjoyed at any time of the day.

Catch the golden sunrise in the morning or wait for the city lights to come to life in the evening while you soak in a steamy hot tub.

If you like catching the golden hours, then it is best to come early in the morning for a breathtaking sunrise and late in the afternoon for a beautiful sunset.

What kind of boat has a hot tub?

Hot tubs on a boat are usually specially made and designed according to the buyer’s preferences.

However, there are already several yachts equipped with a hot tub nowadays.

These are commonly made of wood and topped off with a fiberglass coating.

Are hot tub boat tours safe?

Generally, hot tub tours are safe since you sail across a safe area in the river.

Most of the time, cruising during a storm is not allowed.

Moreover, the boats are operated by licensed captains and there are life jackets available for passenger safety.

Is drinking alcohol allowed on the boat?

Drinking alcohol on board depends on the tour company you booked.

Most hot tub boat tours allow you to bring your own booze for your enjoyment.

It is allowed as long as underage passengers and the captain do not drink alcohol.

What is the temperature of the hot tub?

Hot tubs can be adjusted to your liking. The temperature is usually about 100°F or 37°C and can go hotter if you desire.

So even if you book a tour in freezing temperatures, you are soaked in the warmth of the steamy hot tub.

What do I need to bring with me?

First of all, you need to have a bathing suit or any appropriate swimming attire.

You also need to protect your skin from harmful rays of the sun, so do not forget to bring sunscreen and sunglasses.

If the boat does not have speakers for music , it is best to bring your own for some good vibes.

Keep your phone protected by packing a waterproof phone case as well.

Lastly, bring your favorite snacks and drinks to keep you satisfied throughout the cruise.

Can I get seasick on board?

If you easily get dizzy with motion, then the chances of getting seasick are high.

A boat runs about 3mph or as fast as 5mph.

To help you cope with seasickness, it is recommended to take medication before the boat moves.

Is It Worth It?

If you are looking for a unique way to have a relaxing time while enjoying the scenic views of New York City , I can definitely say booking a hot tub tour in NYC is worth a try.

New York is already filled with hundreds of ordinary yacht tours and sunset cruises, so why don’t you do the unusual and book a hot tub boat tour instead?

The serene spot is perfect for finding serenity in the midst of a bustling city.

It is without a doubt one of the most Instagrammable locations since it is not a common activity to do on a vacation.

Not only is it for tourists looking for a special tour, but for New Yorkers as well who need to throw an unforgettable party.

To get a better deal, I suggest booking a private boat for a big group of friends or family.
