Matchbox Twenty Teams With Train for Summer Tour

May 15 -- Matchbox Twenty recently wrapped an extensive North American arena tour — but now the band is giving fans a chance to hear its hits outside, with an lengthy tour of amphitheaters kicking off July 31 in Fargo, N.D.

Backing Rob Thomas and his popular rock act will be Train, which recently released its sophomore LP, Drops of Jupiter.

Through August the tour will move from the Midwest to the East Coast, before crossing to the West Coast in September, hitting a total of 30 cities.

The songs from Mad Season by Matchbox Twenty — released last May — are still getting radio airplay, and the LP is hanging in at No. 77 on the Billboard 200. The group recently taped an episode of Storytellers, which will air on cable station VH1 on June 1.

The first single from Train's album — "Drops of Jupiter (Don't Tell Me)" — is at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Matchbox Twenty, Train Set Tour Dates

All-American pop-rockers Matchbox Twenty will kick off their run through the country with Train on July 31 in the North Dakota cowboy town of Fargo.

The 31-date trek will swing through the heartland and New England and make a quick stop in the South before turning westward. Dates run through a September 29 stop in Phoenix.

In the meantime, Matchbox Twenty will head overseas for a string of shows in the U.K. and Ireland with Bon Jovi. The band, which recently wrapped up an arena outing with Everclear and Lifehouse, is still riding high on the year-old Mad Season.

The San Francisco-based Train released their second album, Drops of

Jupiter, in March, to the tune of #6 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The single "Drops of Jupiter" is at #21 on the magazine's Hot 100 singles chart this week. Train are currently wrapping up a string of headlining dates.

The band’s edition of “VH1 Storytellers,” taped in February at New York’s Chelsea Piers, will debut June 1 on the cable network. Rock outfit Matchbox Twenty anounced tour dates of their North American 2008 trek. Opening acts are Alanis Morissette and MuteMath. The trek kicks off January 25 in Hollywood (FL), includes 33 dates, and wraps up March 18 by show in Las Vegas (NV). Band will visit Atlanta (GA), Milwaukee (WI), Cleveland (OH), Toronto (ON), Kansas City (MO), Los Angeles (CA), Phoenix (AZ), and many other cities. Matchbox Twenty is touring in support of their fresh disk Exile on Mainstream , which contains band's hits and 6 new songs. Matchbox Twenty have quietly woven their songs into the fabric of American popular culture. It’s impossible not to hum along to generational anthems such as “3AM,” “Push,” “Unwell,” “Bent,” “If You’re Gone” and “She’s So Mean.” “Push” even recently inspired a key musical moment in Greta Gerwig’s history-making film “Barbie” as the “national anthem of the so-called ‘Kendom’” (USA Today). Earning hits in each of the last three decades, Matchbox Twenty have gone from perennially dominating radio airwaves and ruling MTV to piling up streams in the billions, speaking to the enduring appeal of their music. They’ve sold more than 40 million records worldwide, dominated charts, garnered multiple Grammy Award nominations, and played to millions of fans in arenas, amphitheaters and stadiums across continents. Their catalog encompasses the diamond-certified 12x-platinum classic “Yourself or Someone Like You” (1996), quadruple-platinum “Mad Season” (2000), double-platinum “More Than You Think You Are” (2002) and gold-certified “North” (2012), which marked their first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Beyond dozens of syncs on film and television, their music has been either covered, interpolated or sampled by everyone from Steve Aoki and Kiiara to RMR, while Billboard cited Matchbox Twenty as “one of the most consistent groups of the alternative boom of the ‘90s’ back half.”

For their first album in 11 years and fifth LP overall, “Where The Light Goes,” released in 2023 by Atlantic Records, the band – Rob Thomas, Brian Yale, Paul Doucette and Kyle Cook – simply did what they do best and wrote another great batch of real, relevant and relatable songs recorded with Grammy Award-nominated producer Gregg Wattenberg (Train, John Legend, Goo Goo Dolls). This album benefitted from the musicians’ respective solo journeys. Thomas has proven one of the most highly decorated artists of recent years – releasing five solo albums and receiving three Grammy Awards, 11 BMI Awards, the first-ever Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award, two Billboard Songwriter of the Year honors and Top 5 placement on Billboard’s Top 20 Hot 100 Songwriters of the 2000s. Meanwhile, Paul Doucette has scored and contributed original music to film and television series such as “Utopia,” “For All Mankind” and more. From the album, the single “Don’t Get Me Wrong” landed at No. 1 on Sirius XM’s The Pulse. After releasing their long-awaited project, the band hit the road for the 54-date North American Slow Dream Tour, which was named "one of the success stories of the summer” by "Rolling Stone" in 2023.
