What is Char Dham Yatra?

Image

The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most revered pilgrimages in Hinduism, comprising visits to four sacred shrines: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, these temples are believed to cleanse the soul of all sins and ensure salvation. Choosing the Char Dham Yatra by road is an experience like no other. The winding roads, scenic landscapes, and the thrill of driving through the mountains add a unique dimension to the pilgrimage. It allows you to explore the region at your own pace, soak in the natural beauty, and make spontaneous stops at picturesque spots.

How to plan a perfect Char Dham Yatra?

Image

Planning the perfect Char Dham Yatra itinerary is crucial to making the most of your pilgrimage. Start your journey in Haridwar, one of the holiest cities in India. Attend the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri and take a holy dip in the Ganges. Stay in one of the luxurious hotels like Haveli Hari Ganga or Ganga Lahari for a comfortable night. The next day, drive through Dehradun and Mussoorie to reach Barkot, the base for Yamunotri. Choose from comfortable stays like Camp Nirvana or Yamunotri Cottages.

On the third day, embark on a 6 km trek from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri Temple. You can hire a pony or a palanquin if trekking isn’t your thing. Visit the Divya Shila and take a dip in the holy Yamuna River before returning to Barkot for the night. The following day, drive to Uttarkashi through lush valleys and stay at Prakriti Resort or Hotel Shivlinga.

The fifth day involves a visit to Gangotri Temple, a revered shrine dedicated to Goddess Ganga. Visit the Bhagirath Shila and take a dip in the icy waters of the Ganges before returning to Uttarkashi for the night. Next, drive to Guptkashi, enjoying breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges, and stay at Chopta Meadows or Kedar Valley Resort.

From Guptkashi, head to Gaurikund and start a 16 km trek to Kedarnath Temple. Helicopter services are available for a quicker and more comfortable journey. The temple offers a surreal spiritual experience. Stay at GMVN guest houses or tents near the temple. The next day, trek back to Gaurikund and drive to Guptkashi for the night to recuperate from the trek and enjoy the serene surroundings.

On the ninth day, drive to Badrinath through picturesque landscapes and stay at Sarovar Portico or Hotel Snow Crest. Visit Badrinath Temple the next day, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Take a dip in the Tapt Kund hot springs and explore Mana Village, the last village before the Tibet border. Stay overnight in Badrinath before heading to Rudraprayag, where you can stay at Monal Resort or Shangrila Resort.

Conclude your Char Dham Yatra with a drive to Rishikesh, the yoga capital of the world. Explore the iconic Laxman Jhula and attend the evening Aarti at Parmarth Niketan. Stay at Aloha on the Ganges or The Glasshouse on the Ganges. Finally, drive to Haridwar, completing your Char Dham Yatra with divine blessings and unforgettable memories.

FAQs about Chardham Tour Packages

Q. What are the opening and closing dates of the Chardham Yatra? A. Prior to going ahead and booking one of the Chardham packages, you need to ascertain what time of the year you are going to be travelling and whether or not the Chardham Yatra is open at that time of the year. Chotta Chardham comprises Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, with the temples marking the sources of Hinduism’s four rivers - Ganga, Yamuna, Mandakini and Alaknanda. The Chardham Yatra remains open between April to the first half of November. Although the specific dates are announced by the state government of Uttarakhand annually and it states the opening and closing dates of the circuit. In the winter, the deities are moved to their winter abode such as Joshimath for Badrinath, Ukimath for Kedarnath, Mukhba for Gangotri and Kharsali for Yamunotri. These winter abodes stay open round the year and you can visit them in that season in case you cannot make it to Chardham within the stipulated period. Q. What is the significance of Gangotri in Chardham Yatra? A. As you go through Chardham tour packages, make sure you have enough time at Gangotri, the source of Hinduism’s holiest river, the Ganges. The holiest shrine in the country, the Gangotri Temple is greatly revered for being the source the Ganga River. Legend has it that the rock on the site acted like a shield to save the planet from the disaster the river could have otherwise wrecked as it poured out of Lord Shiva’s matted locks sitting in Mount Kailash. It is believed that Lord Shiva placed the rock in that position to stop the onslaught of the gushing waters. The temple was built in the 18 th century by Gorkha commander, Amar Singh Thapa. It is Gaumukh which is the original source of the Ganges, but the Gaumukh glacier is about 19 kilometre up ahead of the Gangotri Temple. The temple opens its doors on Akshay Tritiya usually in May and closes down on Bhai Dhuj in late-October or early-November. Pilgrims, believing in Ganga’s healing properties, take back bottles full of the holy water. There are several smaller shrines in the region, each home to a legend on the Ganges’ evolution that has its roots in mythology. Q. What route do you take on the Chardham Yatra? A. All Chardham holiday packages will mention in detail the route you would be taking on your tour of the pilgrimage circuit. Arrive in Haridwar from Delhi and then travel to Barkot. Barkot is the closest source of the Yamuna River, the Yamunotri, around 200 kilometre from Haridwar. Return to Barkot and now head towards Gangotri that is about 210 kilometre away. Proceed from Gangotri towards Uttarkashi, a scenic 95 kilometre drive. Continue to Sitapur from Uttarkashi that is around 212 kilometre away, and from there head to Gaurikund. Gaurikund would be the starting point of your 14 kilometre trek to the shrine of Kedarnath. After paying your respects at the Kedarnath Temple, continue to Rudraprayag that is about 75 kilometre away and from there proceed to Badrinath. Badrinath is about 160 kilometre from Rudraprayag. Visit the shrine and further arrive in Birhi, about 95 kilometre away. From Birhi Rishikesh is around 160 kilometres. Take a cab to get into Haridwar from Rishikesh and further to your onward destination. Q. Is Chardham yatra booking availabe in 2023? A. All vaccinated tourists will be allowed for Chardham Yatra from 14 May 2023. Q. What is the best time to go on a Chardham tour? A. The Chota Chardham circuit created in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya comprises Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. April to June is the best time to visit Chardham as the weather remains pleasant and you can do with some layering, although you would need sweaters after sunset as the temperatures drastically plummet. You must avoid a trip to Chardham in monsoon or winter when it gets very cold and the rains making the treks and hikes extremely treacherous. Q. Which are the places included in a Chardham trip? A. While the Chardham yatra involves Badrinath, Dwarka, Rameswaram and Puri, the Chota Chardham includes a visit to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Kedarnath being the abode of Lord Shiva, Badrinath that of Vishnu, Gangotri Temple near which is the source of the Ganga River and Yamunotri Temple, a temple built on a site which is close to the source of the Yamuna River. Q. What will be the route taken on a Chardham tour? A. You will begin from Haridwar and go to Barkot, Barkot is about 200 kilometre away and close to it is the source of Yamuna, Yamunotri. From Barkot, head for Gangotri which is 210 kilometre away. From Gangotri, visit Uttarkashi which is 95 kilometre away. From Uttarkashi, head out to Sitapur, about 212 kilometre away, and from there to Gaurikund, which is the starting point of your 14 kilometre trek to Kedarnath. Tentative dates of temples opening are on auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya which will fall on 10th May 2024 this year. The Badrinath-Kedarnath Samiti announces the opening dates every year as per Hindu Calendar which is assumed as final dates.

Chardham Yatra Closing Dates 2024

Closing date of Yamunotri Temple Shrine lies on auspicious day of Deepawali after a grand ceremony where Palanquin of Goddess Yamuna is carried away to Kharsali with grand procession. Gangorti Temple gates also get closed on Bhai Dooj, 2 days after lighting earthen lamps on Diwali. After this palanquin of Maa Ganga is carried to Mukhba Village for rest of the winter time. You can observe special prayers on Janmastmai, Vijayadashmi and Diwali. Kedarnath Temple also get closed on Bhai Dooj while Badrinath Temple get closed after 1 week of Diwali.

Yamunotri Temple

Nestled in the pristine Himalayan region of Uttarakhand, Yamunotri Dham stands as a unique testament to devotion and natural splendour. This sacred pilgrimage site, the source of the revered Yamuna River, offers a distinctive spiritual experience that transcends traditional religious journeys. Unlike many other Char Dham destinations, Yamunotri's uniqueness lies in its serene and untouched environment, where pilgrims embark on a trek through picturesque landscapes, dense forests, and bubbling hot springs to reach the temple. The temple itself, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, exudes an aura of mysticism with its ancient architecture and tranquil surroundings. Pilgrims find solace in the rhythmic chant of mantras, the soothing sounds of the Yamuna's gurgling waters, and the warmth of the natural thermal springs that are believed to have healing properties.

The specific opening date of Yamunotri Temple is determined annually and is based on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya. The opening ceremony begins with the temple priests performing special rituals to welcome the deity, Goddess Yamuna, back to her abode after the winter hiatus. The idol is unveiled amid Vedic chants and hymns. Pilgrims often gather to witness this auspicious event. Devotees and pilgrims who visit the temple during the opening ceremony are encouraged to offer prayers, perform pujas, and seek the blessings of Goddess Yamuna. It is believed that visiting the temple on this day and taking a dip in the Yamuna's icy waters cleanses one of sins and brings good fortune. The closing dates of Yamunotri Temple falls on Diwali. During the closing ceremony, special rituals are conducted by the temple priests to bid farewell to Goddess Yamuna as winter approaches and the region gets covered in heavy snowfall. The idol of the goddess is covered with a thick layer of silver and is carried down from the temple to the Kharsali village, which remains inhabited during the winter months.

Yamunotri Dham

Gangotri Temple

Gangotri is considered the source of the sacred Ganges River, which is not just a river but a goddess, Ganga. Pilgrims come here to witness the sacred moment when the Ganges emerges from the Gangotri Glacier, making it unique among the Char Dhams. The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is the main pilgrimage site. The temple is an exquisite example of Himalayan architecture and houses the sacred idol of the goddess. Pilgrims visit to offer prayers, perform rituals, and seek blessings. The spiritual atmosphere in Gangotri is palpable, as it is believed that a visit here can cleanse one's sins and lead to salvation. The landscape around Gangotri is awe-inspiring, with snow-capped peaks, lush meadows, and the resplendent Bhagirathi River. The serene and tranquil ambiance of this region creates a perfect setting for spiritual contemplation. The Temple opens on Akshay Tritiya in April/May with a huge opening ceremony. It is a significant event for pilgrims and devotees. It begins with the temple priests performing elaborate Vedic rituals and prayers.

The main highlight of the ceremony is the moment when the temple doors are opened, revealing the sacred idol of Goddess Ganga. This event is accompanied by the chanting of mantras and hymns. Devotees and pilgrims who visit Gangotri during the opening ceremony witness the divine rituals and seek the blessings of Goddess Ganga. Many take a ritualistic dip in the frigid waters of the Bhagirathi River, which is believed to purify the soul. The closing ceremony is a solemn occasion that marks the end of the pilgrimage season. It involves special prayers and rituals conducted by the temple priests. The temple idol of Goddess Ganga is covered in a thick layer of silver, signifying the goddess's return to her abode in the Gangotri Glacier as winter approaches.

Gangotri Mandir

Kedarnath Temple

Kedarnath Dham, nestled amidst the Himalayan peaks of Uttarakhand, stands as a unique spiritual sanctuary revered by millions. Its distinctiveness lies in its high-altitude location, perched at an elevation of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet), making it one of the Char Dhams and a revered destination for Lord Shiva devotees. The Kedarnath Temple , an architectural marvel, is the epicenter of this pilgrimage. Surrounded by pristine snow-clad peaks, it exudes an aura of serenity and devotion. What truly sets it apart is the belief that Lord Shiva himself, in the form of a conical lingam, resides here, perpetually enveloped by snow, and only accessible during the summer months.

Pilgrims embark on a challenging trek to reach this sacred abode, traversing rugged terrain and icy streams. This spiritual odyssey, characterized by unwavering faith and determination, offers a unique blend of adventure and devotion. Kedarnath, with its unparalleled natural beauty and divine aura, stands as an emblem of resilience, drawing seekers and wanderers into its mystical embrace. The Kedarnath opening ceremony is a grand and elaborate event. It begins with the temple priests performing ancient Vedic rituals and prayers. The highlight of the ceremony is the unveiling of the sacred idol of Lord Kedarnath, who is believed to reside in the temple in the form of a naturally occurring conical rock known as the "Bhagwan Shri Kedarnath Ji Ki Ban." Devotees and pilgrims who visit Kedarnath during the opening ceremony witness the divine rituals and seek the blessings of Lord Kedarnath. Many undertake a challenging trek to reach the temple and offer prayers. On the festival of Bhai Dooj, closing ceremony of Temple takes place.

Kedarnath Temple Images

Badrinath Temple

Badrinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Badrinath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. What makes it unique is that Lord Badrinath is believed to be the only deity of the Pancha Badri temples who is depicted in a meditative posture rather than a standing or seated one, symbolizing deep contemplation and devotion. The temple's location in the rugged Himalayas and its high altitude make it accessible only during a limited period each year. It is open to pilgrims for around six months, typically from late April to early November. The rest of the year, it remains snowbound and inaccessible. Tapt Kund, a natural thermal spring near the temple, is considered holy by devotees. Pilgrims often take a ritualistic dip in these hot springs before entering the temple as it is believed to have purifying properties. Near Badrinath , there is a lesser-known temple called Bhavishya Badri, which is said to be the future residence of Lord Badrinath. Badrinath Gates open for Pilgrims after grand rituals and prayer ceremonies. Closing date generally lies after a week of Deepawali and announced by the Puja Samiti.

Char Dham yatra: Over 9.5 lakh pilgrims visit Uttarakhand; both tourist numbers and deaths hit a high

As many as 52 persons died due to heart attack

Puja Awasthi

More than twice the number of tourists have visited the Char Dham in Uttarakhand this year, where yatra started in May. Kedarnath, which like Gangotri and Yamunotri, started receiving pilgrims on May 10, leads with 4.24 lakh visitors. However, the number of deaths has also risen.

Till Friday, as per the state government's figures, 9.67 lakh pilgrims have visited and, as many as 52 persons, mostly aged above 60 years, died during this period due to heart attacks. Kedarnath leads here too with 23 deaths. In 2023, 23 people died on a single day in Kedarnath due to heavy snowfall. Last year, a total of 56 lakh persons took the yatra and 223 pilgrims died.

On Friday, a chopper en route to Kedarnath, carrying six pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, developed a fault in its hydraulic system but, there were no casualties.

Vinay Shankar Pandey, the Commissioner of Garhwal said, “We had to stop pilgrims from proceeding upwards for a week, but now things are streamlined." This, he said, was the result of people reaching Uttarakhand and then registering for the yatra. Rishikesh and Haridwar are the most popular starting points for the yatra. According to government orders, the concerned officers will be answerable if visitors reach the state before the allotted date of the yatra. For now, all registrations are on hold till May 31.

In addition, there have been incidents of fake registrations and FIRs have been registered against 10 tour operators.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed that special attention be paid to cleanliness and sector magistrates are required to provide updates every two hours.

Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Mandir Samiti chairperson, Ajendra Ajay said, “The number of tourists has been beyond capacity. This led to some initial difficulties. Government measures have now smoothened things”.

Day 01: nagpur to delhi and then to rishikesh.

Your Chardham Yatra will start from your hometown in Nagpur. You will travel to the national capital on day 1, where you will be met by our representatives at a pre-determined location. As soon as the traveling party is at the specified location, we will immediately move towards our stop of the trip - Rishikesh.

We will leave for Rishikesh around 9.30 pm. It will be an overnight journey, and we aim to reach Rishikesh sometime after midnight. As soon as we arrive, our party will head towards our accommodations for the night.

Day 02: Rishikesh to Barkot

We will wake up to the gentle murmur of the Ganges in Rishikesh. After a light breakfast, we will enjoy a scenic drive to Barkot. However, before that, we will visit some of the marvels in the city, such as Laxman & Ram Jhula, Swarg Ashram, and Geeta Ashram. After the sightseeing, we will head to our next location.

This road travel will take around 7 hours to cover the 200 km distance between the two locations. Our journey will make delightful stops at the cascading Kempty Falls in Mussoorie, capturing the refreshing spray and stunning views.

As we arrive in Barkot, a quaint hill town nestled in the serenity of Himalayan valleys, we will check into our pre-booked accommodation.

Day 03: To Yamunotri & Back

The third day will see us embrace the early morning chill and head straight to Yamunotri, the first of the Char Dhams that we will cover. We will leave our comfortable accommodations in Barkot quite early in the morning and reach Janki Chatti's base camp. This is where the trek to Yamunotri begins. It is a trek of 6 km to the Yamunotri shrine. If you want, you can hire a Pony/ palki to help you complete the trek.

As soon as we reach the Yamunotri temple, we will pay our respects to the Divya Shila. You can also take Prasad home with you if you want. As the sun sets, we will return to our accommodations in Barkot.

Day 04: Barkot to Uttarkashi

Now, it is time for us to say goodbye to Barkot and move to another beautiful city on our journey: Uttarkashi.

Uttarkashi is located in the majestic Himalayas, a sight to behold for any traveler. On our way, we will stop at the Prakateshwar Mahadev Temple and offer prayers to the revered Shiva lingam housed within its ancient walls. After that, we will continue on our way to the holy town of Uttarkashi.

We will check into our hotel as soon as we reach Uttarkashi. After freshening up, we will move towards the most significant attraction in the city - the Vishwanath Temple. As the sun begins to set, we will head back to our restroom for a peaceful overnight stay.

Day 05: To Gangotri & Back

On the fifth day of our trip, we will see our traveling party wake up early and embark on our pilgrimage to Gangotri - the source of the mighty Ganges.

We will make a brief stop at Harsil, a hill station that has kept its age-old charm. This town is renowned worldwide for its picturesque apple orchards. After a brief respite, we will get back on your route to Gangotri.

Upon reaching Gangotri, you will feel its spiritual significance wash over you. There is a hymn in the air, an indescribable energy. Pay respects to the Gangotri temple and witness the sacred Ganga Aarti ceremony. After, we will head back to our base in Uttarkashi.

Day 06: Uttarkashi to Srinagar

We are at the halfway mark of our trip and begin day six by bidding farewell to the holy town of Uttarkashi. Our heading? Srinagar, and no, we are not talking about the one in Kashmir.

We will start our morning with a scenic drive, witnessing the majestic Himalayas unfold their beauty. If possible, we will also make a stop at the iconic Tehri Dam. After a brief stop, we will continue our journey, reaching Srinagar as the sun begins to set. We will immediately check into our room for an overnight stay.

Day 07: Srinagar to Sitapur

Our traveling party will rise early and set off for Sitapur, our base camp for the trek to the third of the Char Dhams - Kedarnath. Along our way, we will make brief halts at the Dhari Devi temple and in Rudraprayag at the Gauri temple.

Upon reaching Sitapur, we will check into our comfortable hotel and relax after the scenic journey. Take time to unwind and prepare for the most physically challenging part of this tour the next day - the trek to Kedarnath.

Day 08: To Kedarnath & back

It goes without saying that you need to be physically fit to climb the Kedarnath temple. So, please make sure that you are in good enough condition for this 19-kilometer ascent on foot. Alternatively, you have the option to book a Helicopter for this part of the journey, which will drop you off at Phata.

With every step you take, you can feel the invigorating air and breathtaking scenery uplift your spirit. After a strenuous climb, we will reach the revered Kedarnath temple, situated amidst the snow-clad mountains.

After offering prayers at the Kedarnath temple, we will head back to our base in Sitapur. It would be an overnight descent.

Day 09: Sitapur to Badrinath

Day 9 of this Char Dham Yatra will see us move towards the final destination of our tour - Badrinath Dham. During the trip, we will make a brief stoppage at three of the Panch Prayag - Karnaprayag, Nandprayag, and Vishnuprayag.

We shall then proceed to Joshimath, where we will seek blessings at the revered Narasimha temple. Finally, we will arrive at the Badrinath temple and check into our lodgings for a transformative encounter with the divine tomorrow.

Day 10: Badrinath to Pipalkoti

Our traveling party will commence the day with a purifying dip in Tapt Kund and offering prayer to Badrinarayan. We will then explore the Badrinath complex and, in the afternoon, move towards the Mana village.

In the Mana village, we will witness marvels such as Bhim Pul & Vyasa Gufa. Later, we will head to Pipalkoti for your pre-booked hotel rooms for the day.

Day 11: Pipalkoti to Haridwar to Delhi

The penultimate day of our trip is the official start of our return leg in this journey. We will bid farewell to the majestic Himalayas. Our destination? Haridwar, though, we will briefly stop at Devprayag, witnessing the holy confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers.

Once we reach Haridwar, you can take a dip in the purifying waters of the Har-ki-Pauri Ghat. We will also take part in the famous Ganga Aarti at this ghat. Immediately after that, we will start our journey back to the national capital.

Day 12: Arrival in Delhi

We will arrive in Delhi in the early morning, marking the culmination of your transformative pilgrimage. If needed, our representatives will arrange for a seamless transfer to the Railway Station or IGI Airport.

Char dham yatra 2024: the char dham yatra holds profound spiritual significance in hinduism. this journey typically occurs from april-may to october-november. it is believed that one should complete the char dham yatra in a clockwise direction..

Char Dham Yatra, Badrinath temple, Kedarnath

In view of the surge, the state government and administration have implemented stringent measures against unregistered travellers. Registration checks are being conducted at various checkpoints to manage the growing influx of pilgrims to the Dhams.

Number of pilgrims visited Char Dham Yatra

  • Kedarnath: 2,46,820
  • Badrinath: 1,20,757
  • Yamunotri: 1,25,608
  • Gangotri: 1,12,508

Registrations for Char Dham Yatra

  • Kedarnath: 9,87,533
  • Badrinath: 9,04,009
  • Gangotri: 5,26,273
  • Yamunotri: 4,62,632

Char Dham Yatra 2024

The Char Dham Yatra started on May 10 as the doors of Kedarnath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri temples in the Garhwal Himalayas were opened for devotees on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya after remaining closed during the winter season. The doors of Kedarnath and Yamyunotri were opened at 7 am while the portals of Gangotri were opened at 12.

Meanwhile, the doors of the Badrinath temple in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand were opened for devotees on May 12. The doors opened at 6 am after two hours of rituals. The doors of the Badrinath temple were opened after six months amid the chanting of Vedic mantras, a pooja and beats of dhols and nagadas.

Registration for Char Dham Yatra

According to an earlier letter written to the chief secretaries of other states on April 30, VIP darshan was not to be allowed at the temples till May 25. Prior registration for the yatra is mandatory and devotees can have a darshan at the dhams only on the dates allotted to them at the time of registration, Raturi said.

Elderly devotees with a medical history should get themselves tested before embarking on the yatra and follow the guidelines issued by the Health Department of Uttarakhand, the chief secretary said.

The Char Dham Yatra holds profound spiritual significance in Hinduism. This journey typically occurs from April-May to October-November. It is believed that one should complete the Char Dham Yatra in a clockwise direction. Hence, the pilgrimage starts from Yamunotri, proceeds towards Gangotri, onto Kedarnath, and it finally ends at Badrinath.

The journey can be completed by road or by air (helicopter services are available). The Char Dham Yatra, or pilgrimage, is a tour of four holy sites- Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. In Hindi, 'char' means four and 'dham' refers to religious destinations.

Char Dham Yatra: Hill stations to avoid on weekends in summer

TRAVEL TRENDS Created : May 25, 2024, 10:00 IST

navbharat tours char dham yatra

As reported earlier, the eagerly awaited Chardham Yatra of 2024 has already commenced, with reports indicating that more than 26 lakh pilgrims have enlisted for the pilgrimage. However, the sacred expedition has been marred by adversity for a significant portion of pilgrims. Accounts of extensive traffic congestion along the Gangotri-Yamunotri Highway have emerged, leading to prolonged delays and subsequent protests from disgruntled pilgrims. The congestion issue has become a focal point of dissatisfaction, with pilgrims urging authorities to take responsibility for the inadequate management of traffic flow.

Meanwhile, we have listed some of the hill stations that you can consider avoiding on weekends this summer.

Tucked away in the picturesque Uttarkashi district, Barkot is a serene hill station surrounded by lush green forests, glistening streams, and snow-capped peaks. Away from the hustle and bustle of crowded tourist spots, Barkot offers a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike. However, if you want to avoid the influx of tourists during the Char Dham Yatra, long queues at attractions, it’s better that you give it a miss for the time being.

Nestled along the banks of the Bhagirathi River, Harsil is a hidden gem in the Uttarkashi district known for its pristine beauty and tranquil ambiance. Surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks, dense pine forests, and apple orchards, Harsil offers a serene retreat away from the tourist crowds. This place falls on the way to Gangtori, as such this route will likely remain crowded during this time. Think twice before planning a trip to this place.

Located amid the breathtaking scenery of the Garhwal Himalayas, Chopta is a serene hill station renowned for its lush green meadows, pristine forests, and panoramic views of snow-capped peaks. Often referred to as the ‘Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand,’ Chopta offers a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of crowded tourist destinations. It serves as the starting point of the trek to Tungnath, and is on the way to Badrinath. Check out the advisories before setting out on a trip to this place.

Situated at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers, Joshimath is a serene hill town in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Joshimath offers a peaceful retreat for spiritual seekers and nature enthusiasts alike. On the way from Pipalkoti to Badrinath, you will find this beautiful place, and due to the huge influx of pilgrims, the route to this place might be busy.

Mussoorie is another popular hill station known for its colonial charm, lush greenery, and panoramic vistas. While it may attract crowds during weekends, there are plenty of offbeat trails and lesser-known spots where visitors can find solitude amid nature's embrace. En route to Yamunotri, you will be able to explore the serene beauty of Kempty Falls, which might also witness crowds given the current situation.
