Best free web browser games: 10 browser-only titles you have to play

Point and click for the best free web browser games you can play now

best free web browser games: An island town built in Townscaper

The best free web browser games are somewhat of a well-kept secret. The internet is full of free things, so it’s not much of a secret that we get to enjoy free web browser games – the real treat however, is how good many of them are.

Among admittedly more simplistic clicker games (which can also be a lot of fun) await early prototypes of successful commercial games, high-quality games designed to be played in a short break from work and puzzles that keep your brain fit. There’s something for everyone. We Flash was disabled, browser game fans lost a lot of good titles, but many of them also made the jump over to HTML5 – and don’t forget about new browser gaming sensations like Wordle , either.

Graphically, these games are going to be simpler than the best PC games , of course, so that everyone can play them without installation, with nothing but a basic office laptop. On the other hand they are also free and easy to pick up and put down.

Our list has the games everyone has been talking, about, so let’s discover some free-to-play fun with the best free web browser games.

Best free web browser games

best free web browser games: Doom art with a man in a torn green space suit and a helmet, shooting at and being grabbed by monsters

Doom (1993)

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

Step into the boots of the Doom Slayer and mow down countless deadly demons in one of the most influential first-person shooters of all time. Make your way through rooms full of snarling enemies, find explosive new weapons to even the odds, and restore order to the space station on Mars.

Released several decades ago, Doom’s gratifying gameplay still holds up today, making the hell-raising hit from 1993 an instant recommendation.

best free web browser games: a large town on the sea in Townscaper

You may already know the simple and relaxing builder Townscaper, as it released in 2021 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and phones. What most people seem to have missed is that developer Oskar Stålberg also made the game available on his own website. a nice gesture that catapults one of the best citybuilders of 2021 straight into our list of the best free web browser games.

This version calls itself a demo, but functionally it works like the full game. In Townscaper, you build a whole town on the water with nothing but a few clicks. You start with a single building and draw pathways and more building onto the water as if by magic. Depending on how high you move the cursor and what direction you move it in, building and sideways will stretch to fit the layout you have in mind. Townscaper is relaxing fun that makes you feel accomplished within minutes, as it's nearly impossible to build something that doesn't look good. And if you decide to support the full game, it is quite affordable on all platforms, too.

best free web browser games: a tileboard of multiples of 3

Threes! is a numerical puzzle game that’s easy to grasp yet difficult to master. You can either move left, right, up or down, and the goal is to get adjacent and identically-numbered cards to stack on top of one another. The concept has the staying power of the likes of Tetris, unless you hate numbers. It took people years until someone finally beat Threes, and to this days a lot of people are hunting for the highscore.

New tiles are introduced with every turn, so you need to keep stacking tiles or risk running out of room. If the board fills up, it’s game over and you’ll be presented with a final score.

Play here: Threes!

best free web browser games – a small spelunker ina leafy, green mine

Widely regarded as one of gaming’s greats, Spelunky is just as engrossing as ever when played in a web browser, and thus on our list of best free web browser games. Discover the treasures buried beneath the surface as you battle menacing monsters, cross numerous pitfalls and hoard precious loot.

This version is exactly right if you want to see what Spelunky is all about before paying for the published version, or if you simply want to fill some time spelunking

Levels are randomized, promising a new experience with each playthrough, making it ideal for speedrunners and those who love beating their highscores alike. A bona fide classic, you definitely need to deep dive into Spelunky.

best free web browser games: a digital Catan board

Catan Universe

Settlers of Catan has established itself as a classic board game ever since its release in 1995. And like most classic board games, it’s made its way to the digital realm. The digital version of Settlers of Catan is called Catan Universe. This free-to-play game sticks close to the original game, letting you expand your settlements and collect resources to win.

It’s cross-platform so you can jump in on different devices and you can play against other players, even if they’re on a different platform than you. While there are in-game purchases available for expansions and the like, this is a great way to scratch that board game itch, even if you only have your phone available.

best free browser games: two colourful worms caught within a larger rainbow-coloured worm with googly eyes

We love Slither.io so much that its fun concept that it's not only one of the best free web browser games, it even made it onto our list of the best battle royale games . Slither.io is a fun and relaxing game that harkens back to the classic mobile game, Snake.

You collect colorful dots in the quest to become the longest worm, but the introduction of other players brings a more competitive, multiplayer experience to the classic formula.

If you collide with another player, you’ll lose your ever-growing companion and will have to start the process of consuming dots all over again. Other players will gobble up the dots you leave behind, increasing in size and becoming an even greater threat than before.

best free web browser games: Celeste in a frozen cave, the ground full of spikes

Celeste Classic

Much like Spelunky, Celeste also had its beginnings as a small prototype developed in several days before it became the game many of us know and love today.

Celeste Classic, which you can find on the full game's official website, gives you a short run that ramps up in difficulty quite dramatically, to play again and again until your break is over or you give up, basically a bite-sized, arcade-y version of Celeste's full journey.

For Celeste's third anniversary, the ideas behind Celeste Classic were also expanded upon in Celeste 2: Lani's Track , which was made in a similarly short timespan but comes with a new hero and offers all-new mechanics.

best free web browser games: the logo of Wonderput, featuring several minigold courses intricately combined into one scenery

Wonderputt, a game originally devised as a flash game in 2011, has survived the great flash exodus and is still one of the best free web browser games going. Crucially, the web version is preferable to the app versions of the game, which unfortunately handle terribly.

Unlike its real-life counterpart, Wonderputt is super-easy to play. Just position your cursor to determine the angle and power of your shot, and that’s all there is to it. Wonderputt is the perfect time sink when you’re sipping a cup of coffee and a truly great mini-golf game.

best free web browser games: A wordle board with different words such as fruit, crack, track

When Wordle first arrived, it took the world by storm. Every player posted their number of attempts for the daily word puzzle on their social media feed, and the word guessing game reached astounding heights of popularity.

Wordle's premise is easy, but it's deceptively difficult to play. You get a board that fits 6 5-letter words. You start by typing a 5-letter word of your choice. Wordle will then tell you if the letters in your word are anywhere in the word of the day, and if they are, whether or not you got their position wrong. The fewer attempts you need to guess the target word, the better you are at the game.

Players would make a science out of guessing the best Wordle starting words , lists of past words were kept meticulously. Ever since The New York Times bought the game and put it on their website, the fervour has cooled somewhat, although the game is still free and, crucially, available without a registration.

By now, music streaming service Spotify has also devised a Wordle-like alternative called Heardle, which plays you a short clip from a song in its library, then makes you guess. sice Wordle isn't only fun but can actually teach you something, putting in a few minutes every day to guess a word isn't only fun, but also a good brain workout, a combination fit for our list of the best free web browser games.

Play here: Wordle

best free web browser games: a pixelated dinosaur approaching a cactus

The Chrome Dino game

You can still have fun using Google Chrome even when you’re offline. The Chrome Dino game (as it tends to be called) is a surprisingly charming endless runner, which tasks you with jumping over cacti and dodging low-flying pterodactyls by tapping on the screen. You can play it both on- and offline, simply by typing chrome://dino into Chrome's URL bar.

It’s roaring good fun, and one of the few web browser games that works without an Internet connection. Oh, and it also switches between light and dark mode the further you progress, which is a cool little effect. Can you beat your high score before the next train stop?

Browser games - Wordle - A word game being played on a phone

Play : Wordle | Developer: Josh Wardle

Wordle took the world by storm, eventually being bought up by the New York Times. If you missed the boat, it's a deceptively simple word game. You have six guesses to figure out a five-letter word. After each guess you're given feedback in the form of yellow and green boxes—yellow for letters that, while part of the secret word, are in the wrong position, and green for letters that are correctly placed. It doesn't take long to play each day's puzzle, and you can brag to friends if you got lucky and nailed it on the first guess.

Read more: There are lots of other games like Wordle that are great for playing in your browser too.

Letters being arranged in a 5x5 grid.

Play : Sqword | Developer: Josh C. Simmons

Browser word games still feel like all the rage lately and Sqword is one that will really stretch your skills. The goal is to take each letter you're given from the deck and place it in a 5x5 grid to create as many words as possible. Never have I thought so hard about consonant density. This one was popular enough that it even had some sites illicitly lifting it, causing the developer to teach the thieves a bit of a lesson. You can read about that part in the link just below.

The Republia Times

The Republia Times - a black and white browser game showing headlines being dragged to a newspaper

In The Republia Times, you've got to take the day's news and use the limited time on your clock to construct a front page that will keep the public's interest while ensuring their loyalty to the government. Each day brings an update about your family and whether they're being held in comfort or punishment based on your performance as well as new rules about what topics the nation's public are most interested in reading about. Best Browser Games: Agar.io - a whiteboard with different basic colorful shapes

Play : Agar.io | Developer: Matheus Valadares

Though Agar.io looks simplistic with its colored circles on a checker-lined background, it's surprisingly challenging. Your circle starts off very small, but when you eat all of the little colored dots around you, you get bigger. As a small circle, you move quickly and are able to dodge the bigger circles trying to eat you. When bigger, you need larger portions of food. To grow even more, you must eat the other players.

Since smaller players move faster, you can split your circle into two different circles of equal mass. When splitting your circle, the new one will shoot out, which is useful for enveloping the smaller player running away from you. Once a bigger player gobbles you up, you have to restart as the smallest possible dot. The circle of life is brutal.

Isleward

Best Browser Games: Isleward - isometric view of a grid-based fantasy rpg

Play : Isleward | Developer: Big Bad Waffle

Isleward doesn't look like a multiplayer game at first. It's a low-res roguelike that has you choosing what character you want to play before dumping you on your own into the city of Strathford. In Strathford you get your bearings, learn how to queue up actions and explore. There are also a few low-level monsters that you can find and kill to level up.

Eventually you'll run into other people and hopefully convince them to adventure with you. A party of different characters is much stronger than one player alone, and significantly more fun. There's a whole world to explore, loads of islands, and lots of loot to find.

Read more: People who argue about the definition of roguelikes are annoying, but what if they're right?

Slither.io

Best Browser Games: Slither.io - glowing worms on a background of hexes

Play: Slither.io | Developer: Steve Howse

Like Agar.io, Slither.io is about eating small dots (this time ones that glow) to grow bigger. The twist: you're a snake . Your body gets longer as well as slightly wider as you eat the various dots that are littered around. You can't eat your enemies, but if you time it well, you can force another snake to run into your body. This will make them vanish, leaving behind loads of body dots to collect.

Slither.io also lets you customize the skin of your snake, and there are some awesome options. Consider pimping out your snake with a necklace that dangles as they slither.

Kingdom of Loathing

online games safari browser

Play : Kingdom of Loathing | Developer: Asymmetric Publications

Kingdom of Loathing is a sort of pseudo-mmo kind of thing, firmly embedded in the web interface, with drop down menus letting you select your attacks, and page refreshes for every new area. It's a little ugly, but Kingdom of Loathing isn't trying to be pretty. It's trying to be funny, and it's been going strong for years.

Take, for instance, the pun-based classes. The Sauceror flings hot sauce in people's faces, and they get damaged, because hot sauce would really hurt if someone threw it at your face. The Disco Bandits dance at their enemies, fuelled by moxie. And then there's the Haiku Dungeon, where not only are all the descriptions of your enemies in haiku form, but so are your attacks.

The whole game is consistently absurd and amusing, from the enemy types, to the genre conventions it apes so cleverly. And while you can't directly play with other people, you can steal their stuff, join guilds and interact.

If you like Kingdom of Loathing's sense of humor, check out the non-browser cowboy RPG West of Loathing, by the same developers.

Skribbl.io match of a player drawing stairs

Play : Skribbl.io

There are a lot of multiplayer Pictionary-style browser games out there which achieve the basic premise of drawing prompts and guessing them. Skribbl.io is a handy one as it lets you set up a private room without creating an account and includes quite a few custom options like hints, drawing time, number of rounds, and a custom set of words. It has a nice little avatar maker too if you're determined to be a Skribbl.io regular. Of all the many choices out there, Skribbl makes it quite easy to shoot your pals a link to play together without making them jump through hoops.

Pokémon Showdown

Best Browser Games: Pokemon Showdown - a text box with battling monsters displayed

Play : Pokemon Showdown | Developer: Zarel

If battling trainers is the part of Pokémon games you enjoy, then Pokémon Showdown is for you. This entirely unofficial battle simulator lets you jump straight into matches against other players without having to level up or care for your pocket monsters beforehand. If you die, you don't need to go back to the Pokémon Center and rest up either—you can bounce straight into a new battle.

Pokémon Showdown lets you battle using either a random or a custom team. You can then quickly go through a match, selecting moves and countering the other trainer. This fast-paced game takes all of the work out of raising pokémon, leaving just the gratuitous pokémon takedowns.

Town of Salem

Best Browser Games: Town of Salem - people in a town square with a ring of houses

Play : Town of Salem | Developer: BlankMediaGames

If you've ever played the party game of betrayal Mafia or Werewolf, or indeed Among Us, then Town of Salem should feel familiar. You're randomly cast as either a townsperson, a neutral, or one of the mafia. If you're a townsperson, you need to track down mafia members and stop them before they kill everyone in town.

There are many different roles for each category of player with unique abilities to use in the night phase of the game. At night, players plan out their moves and make notes in their will. If they die during the night, the remaining players can use their wills to, hopefully, achieve their goals.

Wilds.io

Best Browser Games: Wilds.io - isometric view of a fantasy battle

Play : Wilds.io | Developer: Rezoner

This hack and slash follows the core principles of the genre: killing people you don't like the look of, and finding loot. There are a bunch of different modes, but the most popular is the default Ruins mode.

Ruins gives you the chance to explore as a member of one of three teams. You can kill other players on different teams, break boxes, and find loot. Armor, potions, and new weapons will help you survive longer in this desert wasteland. Your main objective is to gain bones which appear when people die. If you get enough bones you become the king of the ruins. There are a bunch of other modes, some with shorter times and easier objectives, including soccer. Yes, soccer.

Neptune's Pride

Best Browser Games: Neptune's Pride - a space empire view

Play : Neptune's Pride | Developer: Helmet Games

Neptune's Pride is the epitome of backstabbing, two-faced, genuine human nastiness. Up to eight players start with a few star systems, and then expand outwards, until they meet someone else, and either decide to not kill each other  immediately, or have at it.

It's real-time strategy in the same way that glacier movement is real-time. Because the fleets take hours—sometimes days—to get from star to star, you're left with a good deal of time to play the diplomacy game, trying to cement alliances and sabotage those of your enemies. You try to get them alone and start to gently wear away at their trust, leaving a human-shaped receptacle for suspicion. Before you know it you've got galactic civil war on your hands, and you can mop up the pieces.

Or you could play it like an honorable, decent human being. But where's the fun in that?

What are the best Safari games to play in browser?

This is a rhythm browser game that can be played on your Safari browser, as well as other nice gaming browsers.

You control your character in Deadbeat by moving them around the screen, leaping, and engaging in counterattacks while a variety of beats are being thrown at you in time with the music.

The gameplay is heavily influenced by Everhood. This particular piece of music was composed by Mori Calliope, and each track features its own one-of-a-kind pixel art backdrop as well as animation. The songs come fast so be careful not to break anything.

⇒ Play Deadbeat

This is by far one of our favorite multiplayer games on Safari to play. Aquapark.io is unlike any other racing game you’ve ever seen. If you don’t believe racing is for you, this new game is sure to alter your opinion since it defies preconceptions and offers something fresh.

Your character will slide down the level on its own, and it will be up to you to guide him or her on the right path. You have the option of making a quick turn that will take you off the track and continuing to steer while you are in the air, hovering cautiously until you reach a lower point on the slide.

In Aquapark.io 2 , you may compete against other players to see who can become the champion of the wildest water slide in the world!

Get to the bottom of the water slide and give it your best shot to come in first. You’ll have a lot of fun playing this bright and cheery water slide game if you bump with other players while you’re racing.

Keep holding down the left mouse button to have your figure race down the water slide. Try your hand at Aquapark.io and see if you can win against everyone else without drowning.

⇒ Play Aquapark

Here is a simple but exciting game. Cat and Dog have been summoned to the stand and tell their stories. It’s up to you, the Lawyer, to figure out who is speaking the truth and who isn’t.

The twist here is that your assertions are ALWAYS correct no matter what happens. Who will be held accountable? It’s all up to you! This is one of the best games on Safari for free that will keep you curious and enticed.

⇒ Play I’m (not) a lawyer

There are a lot of weapons to make in this game, but only a few components are available. So you’ll have to make the best decisions.

You’ll drag components unto a crafting board, then assemble them with a tap. By dragging pieces to a Compendium button in the bottom left corner, you will be able to access additional information.

⇒ Play Kraft & Slash

Our main character has recently completed their training as an artificer and has been sent to a remote town that is somehow tied to some very significant secrets. In order to fulfill the bizarre requests of your clients, you and your (usually reliable) helper Kraft will need to combine various components.

To showcase your works, you’ll need to drag components to a crafting board, combine two elements by clicking the board, then drop your work on a client’s portrait.

⇒ Play Artificer

This is another social deduction game made for multiple players like Among Us. You can play as a crewmember or the evil betrayer. As the betrayer, you aim to destroy operations without getting murdered.

If your crewmates suspect you, they might convene a meeting and expel you.

Betrayers can interrupt operations and remove crew members. You will have vents to get about unnoticed. As a betrayer, you must kill all of your crewmates to win.

⇒ Play Betrayal.io

LOLBeans is a browser game similar to Fall Guys which you will play on your mobile, desktop, or tablet, and we regarded it as one of the best games on Safari to play with your friends.

You may compete with as many as 30 of your friends in an obstacle course of amusing mini-games. If you do not get to the end of the course in time you get eliminated from the round. In the end, there will be only one victor.

⇒ Play LOLbeans.io

You probably could tell from the name that this browser game has something to do with swords. But it’s not just swords, it’s swords and dragons.

You will be fighting the mother of all dragons. She is however a patient dragon who waits to see if you can stab her heart with your sword. You should not miss, because if you do, you can expect a ball of red hot fire coming your way.

⇒ Play Deepest Sword

This game is all about utilizing shapes, as the name implies. You’ll be constructing factories across an ever-growing landscape to automate the production and processing of more complicated forms.

You’ll need to be a quick thinker who can modify forms in a short amount of time. It is an easy but intriguing game to play.

⇒ Play Shapez.io

The Safari browser Tomb Temple Run is an endless runner game with 3D images. If you have played Temple Run, then this variation will be familiar.

It has all of the gameplay elements that have become common in previous games in the genre. You will be able to jump, run, gather coins, evade opponents, and unlock new characters.

⇒ Play Tomb Temple Run

It’s all about being an actual animal hunter and completing all of the Sniper shooting objectives in the Safari Animal Hunter.

Some PC issues are hard to tackle, especially when it comes to corrupted repositories or missing Windows files. If you are having troubles fixing an error, your system may be partially broken. We recommend installing Restoro, a tool that will scan your machine and identify what the fault is. Click here to download and start repairing.

The deer hunting tasks and all the other Safari hunting tasks in the Animal Hunter game come in a variety of environments.

The game’s visuals are based on hunting scenes, and you’ll have a good time accomplishing different missions. This is an animal hunter game in which you must take tactical action to keep the prey from fleeing. Thus, we regarded it as one of the special Safari browser games.

⇒ Play Safari Animal Hunter

The game is simple, and you’ll notice little circles in the backdrop connecting the various colored dots. They travel over a specified region, and all you must do is devour other circles to grow yours as large as possible.

There is a leaderboard, and the idea is to aim at taking the top place. Besides being something to brag about, it will also be tons of fun.

⇒ Play Agar.io

Krunker.io is a first-person Safari browser-based tactical shooter game. You will have up to 8 people in the lobby who compete by shooting each other or may complete missions.

It’s compatible with Mac, ChromeOS, Windows PCs, and Linux. You may also play it off the browser by downloading the client version, which is available for both Mac and Windows.

⇒ Play Krunker.io

This is another multiplayer first-person shooter game set in a dystopian future. Ev.io has level designs akin to games like Destiny, Halo, and Quake. You have a variety of weapons and powers that you may employ on the battlefield to your benefit.

In Ev.io, there are multiple science-fiction-inspired stages, and you’ll exploit the advanced design to your advantage. To reach lofty areas, double or triple leap, and startle your enemies with an assault from above.

⇒ Play Ev.io

This is an excellent multiplayer .io game where you have to pilot a car with a circular flail. The goal is to grow your flail while utilizing it to kill other players.

When you are hit by another player’s flail, you will be erased and will have to restart the game; conversely, if your flail hits or touches another player, they will be killed.

⇒ Play Brutal

Docski created Repuls.io, another multiplayer shooting game. In a wide-open environment, you will combat online against actual gamers while discovering a range of vehicles, weapons, and equipment.

You get to handle a figure that is always moving, allowing you to move and fire at the same time. Because each weapon has its limitations and strengths, you can quickly develop a play style and set yourself apart from the rest.

⇒ Repuls.io

Browser Quest is a browser-based multiple-player game that invites you to discover a realm of exploration. WebSockets and  HTML5, which enable real-time games and applications on the Web, are used in this game.

It is compatible with Safari, Chrome, and Firefox, as well as Android and iOS smartphones. What are you waiting for? Try it out!

⇒ Play Browser Quest

Diep.io is a multiplayer game developed by Matheus Valadares. It is accessible on all major browsers including Safari. In a two-dimensional arena, players operate tanks and gain marks by demolishing shapes and eliminating other players.

The tanks will level up as you gain points. When a player levels up, they may put a new skill point in the tank attributes like bullet damage and movement speed.

⇒ Play Diep.io

Diep.io’s fan-made sequel, Arras.io, is another browser game to try. It has a large number of playable levels that begin with the very basics which fire just one bullet every shooting cycle.

You have to work your way going upward. You will gain a Tier when you reach Levels 10, levels 25, and levels 45, which allows you to access new, more powerful classes.

⇒ Play Arras.io

If you love zombie games, then here is the game for you. Top Outpost tests your resilience in defending your territory from these undead creatures.

This fantastic game, which goes by the name Top Outpost, brings the zombie apocalypse to life.

It would appear that you are the only one alive, as well as the only one able to defend yourself against the advancing swarm of zombies. Your objective is to stay alive for as long as you possibly can.

To achieve this, you will need to eliminate as many zombies as you can while also improving the efficiency of your weaponry.

Be careful, since it’s going to grow more difficult to stay alive with each passing day.

⇒ Play Top Outpost

Can you play games on Safari on iPhone?

Yes, you can! Since its introduction to the consumer market, Apple’s iPhone has been a gadget that provides a natural platform for the play of video games. It is quite appealing to be able to pull out a small distraction anytime you feel the need to do so.

In the early days of the iPhone, there were fewer alternatives available to choose from, despite the fact that the Apple App Store now provides access to hundreds of games that can be downloaded.

Before web-based games were widely accessible for download, some game designers created titles that could be played inside the confines of a Safari window and were proportioned to simulate the appearance and feel of traditional computer games.

Many of those Safari games are still available today, even though the iPhone was released almost a decade ago. They may have an appearance that is a little bit basic, but most of them are free, and much like their platform-app counterparts, they are addictive time suckers.

All you need to do now is start up your Safari browser, and get busy clicking away. These games have not been discussed in any particular order, they simply are just some of our favorites and top recommendations.

If you will like more browser game suggestions, you should read our guide on the 10 best itch.io browser games.

Moreover, in case you encounter an error that says your Safari version is no longer supported, take a look at our guide and learn how to fix it.

Our list covers shooter, zombie, music, and adventure games. You will have fun with all of these. We will like to hear from you in the comments and are curious to know which are your favorites.

Still having issues? Fix them with this tool:

If the advices above haven’t solved your issue, your PC may experience deeper Windows problems. We recommend downloading this PC Repair tool (rated Great on TrustPilot.com) to easily address them. After installation, simply click the Start Scan button and then press on Repair All.

If you're looking for free online games to play with friends, you've come to the right place. We're listing some games two people can play on the same computer, and we also have titles you can play even if you're worlds apart.

Better yet, all you need to play these games is a browser window. You can't beat these titles if you want good, clean fun. So, let's get started.

Online Games to Play With Friends on the Same Computer

These two-player browser games have you facing off against a friend while using the same computer. Better yet, you can also play many of these titles on your smartphone. If you want to know how, check out our guide on playing PC games on your mobile device .

All of these games are pretty lightweight and shouldn't put much stress on your system. But to be sure, you might want to see how to optimize your Windows 10 PC for gaming and performance.

1. 8 Ball Billiards Classic

It might be called 8 Ball Billiards Classic (8BBC), but the game is actually just virtual pool. You play in turns and have to pocket stripes or solids, depending on which type you first sink into a hole. Although it's a mouse-based game, it's surprisingly easy to play on a laptop touchpad.

First, you have to line up the shot using the guideline indicators. Then, move the mouse to the strength meter, pulling back the stick to the desired amount of power you want to hit with. It's one of the best free pool games to play with friends online.

  • No sign-up necessary
  • A maximum of two players
  • Players play in turns
  • Play with friends online but on the same PC

2. Gunball!

Gunball is like soccer, only with guns. In this pixel-art game, you and your friend control two on-screen characters. Each has a gun and a goalpost to protect, and a big red ball is in the middle. Shoot the ball into the opponent's goal to score a point. The first to score five points wins.

As far as 1v1 browser games are concerned, this browser game is an excellent example of simplicity in game design. You'll need to move around the screen rapidly to shoot and defend simultaneously, and playing with a pal is a lot of fun.

  • Players play simultaneously
  • Same PC multiplayer
  • Internet connection required

3. Firefall

Comet-like fireballs are falling from the sky. You play as the blue or red square smiley on the ground. Move left and right to avoid being burnt to a crisp. Sounds easy, right? You might be surprised. It's a lot of fun, in any case.

What makes it difficult is the two-player competition. Your opponent can't go beyond you, so you must use your character to push or block your opponent as a fireball rains down upon them. It's a deliciously evil game, one of our favorite two-player online games to play when you've got a score to settle.

4. Gravity Shift

Most two-player online games focus on a 1v1 dynamic. Instead, Gravity Shift is one of those 1v1 browser games that forces you to team up to solve physics-based puzzles. Each player controls an on-screen character, one with the WASD keys and the other with the arrow keys.

In each level, you'll need to move the characters so all buttons are pressed, opening the portal to the next level. You can also find gravity inverting tiles to change your character's gravity. It's all about coordination and puzzle-solving as a team.

5. Money Movers

Not all two-player games online are simple. In Money Movers, you play two brothers who are staging a jailbreak. Each level takes you further out of prison as you use the abilities of each brother to solve the puzzle and get to the exit.

The big burly brother can pick up and throw objects but is less agile than the younger one. The little brother is fast and can jump high. Using a combination of their abilities, you'll need to flip switches, avoid or incapacitate guards, and think of clever ways to get out of a variety of jams.

Some levels are pretty tough, and you and your friend will have a great time figuring them out. As they say, two heads are better than one.

Plus, once you're done with the game, there are two sequels to enjoy. Check out Money Movers 2 and Money Movers 3 if you can't get enough.

Pong 2 is an online recreation of the classic game Pong. Each player controls one paddle on opposite sides of the screen as the ball zips back and forth in between. Pong 2 is one of the best online Pong games because of how customizable its settings are.

You can change both players' ball speed and paddle speed; we recommend 15-20 for the ball speed and 10 for the paddle speed. You can also change the background and the color of the paddles.

Simply set an objective of points to declare the winner and begin playing. One player controls themselves with the up and down arrow keys, while the other uses W and S.

Bowman is an archery game where you aim to hit the opponent by estimating the correct trajectory of your arrows. The concept is relatively simple, but what makes the game so much fun is finding the right angle and amount of force to put in your shot so you don't miss your opponent.

You can make the game more challenging by adding wind and a wall between you and your opponent so they can't copy your trajectory to hit you. You can also make it even more fun by challenging your friend to see who can get the first headshot.

8. Paddle Battle

Paddle Battle is a lot like air hockey, where you use your striker (aka mallet) to try and hit the puck into your opponent's goal while they try to do the same. Except here, instead of playing with strikers and pucks, you play with balls.

Each player controls a ball to hit an orange ball (i.e., the puck) into their opponent's goal while using the board's walls to bounce off. To win, you must be the first to score a given amount of points or have more points than your opponent when the time runs out.

To make it extra fun, you can also slightly change the board's shape to make it more challenging to maneuver your ball. A game can be as short as a minute, up to 10 minutes, or have no time limit, so you can play endlessly.

9. Get on Top

Get on Top is the game we imagine will have you and your friend laughing together in no time; it's just as fun as it is simple. Your objective in the game is to pin your opponent's head to the ground while staying on top to avoid having the same done to you.

You do this by jumping on, pulling, and pushing your opponent—all while your hands are tied to them. It's sort of like a virtual wrestling game.

What makes the game so enjoyable is seeing all the bizarre ways your characters move about as you both try to stay on top and not get pinned down. The first player to score 11 points wins.

Online Games to Play With Friends on Different Computers

It's fun to play games on a single PC with your friend. But what if they're located elsewhere, and you want to burn some time with them? Or what if you're going to play with your siblings who have their own PC? Check out these games that let you face off using different computers.

10. Lichess

If you want to engage in a battle of wits, there is nothing like 1v1 browser games based on chess. Lichess is perhaps the best browser chess game to choose if you want to quickly jump into a game with a real person without signing up.

The graphics are pleasing to the eye, and you can try different time intervals. Plus, there's a chatroom, game modes (like Chess960, Antichess, and King of the Hill), and even an analysis board. Our favorite feature is that you can request to take back a move, which is wonderful when playing a game between friends.

  • Play with friends online on different computers

11. Speed Sudoku

Sudoku is a fun brainteaser, one of our favorite games for two people online. That's what Speed Sudoku is all about. Who would have thought you could play Sudoku with friends over the internet?

Sign up and create a new game or join an existing one. You can have a maximum of four players, but you can also play between just the two of you, even password-protecting your game to keep it private. While you're solving, you will also see the other players' progress in percentage, which keeps your competitive engine running.

  • Sign-up necessary
  • A maximum of four players

12. Ludo King

The old board game Ludo has turned into an internet phenomenon, and Ludo King is the best app to play it on.

It features several ways to play with friends. You play locally, on the same computer, or with friends on a different computer or mobile app. You can even be on a browser while your friends use the Ludo King app.

Ludo is a simple dice-based game; you'll pick up the rules quickly. The objective is to get your four pins from the starting point to your "house." Along the way, you'll kill friends' pins by landing on the same square they're on, avoiding their attempts to get you.

On a browser, you can only play Ludo King through Facebook. You'll need a Facebook account, which lets you find friends on the social network playing the game. You can also invite friends using the app who aren't on Facebook.

  • Facebook account necessary
  • Play with friends online on different computers, or play with friends locally

13. JigsawPuzzles.io

Many of these 1v1 browser games are awfully competitive. How about solving a giant jigsaw puzzle online with a friend?

JigsawPuzzles.io offers a variety of puzzles to choose from, and it's easy to set up and use. To start your private session, you'll need to log in with your Google, Facebook, or Twitter account. Then, you get to choose the type of puzzle (nature, animal, street art, or anything else), the size (how many pieces it will have?), and who can help you solve it.

Once set up, send the link to your friends and begin; there's also a handy text chat within the game to talk live. Drag and drop pieces into the puzzle with your mouse—JigsawPuzzles.io assigns each player a different color to keep track of the moving hands. The game also automatically saves progress in case you must stop midway and return to it later.

We aren't sure how many people can try to solve the online jigsaw puzzle simultaneously, but in our tests, up to three friends could play smoothly simultaneously.

  • Up to three players or more

14. Battleship Online

There are plenty of ways to play Battleship online for free , but this one is our favorite. The rules stay the same as always. Invite your friend by sending a link, set up your 10x10 grids with different battleships, declare that you're ready, and begin.

Click anywhere on your friend's grid to try to sink their battleships; you can keep playing until one of you is out of ships. If you don't have a friend online, you can also play a random game with a stranger. There are always people online looking for a quick game.

  • Play with friends online on different computers

9 of the Best Co-op Games You Can Play in Your Browser

David Joz

There are few bonding experiences quite as childishly fun as playing co-operative games with your friends. But if you don’t want to go through the hassle of buying, downloading and installing new games, then you can easily get your gaming fix through your browser.

We’ve put together a list of the best browser-based co-op games you can start playing in a matter of seconds.

1. Town of Salem

Everyone’s been at a drunken dinner party where they’ve played Werewolf or Mafia, right? One or two people play the killer, while the rest try to work out who they are. This concept is expanded brilliantly in Town of Salem .

best-co-op-browser-games-town-of-salem

A group of 7 to 15 players are assigned roles such as serial killers, townsfolk, Mafia and dozens of others. No one knows what role another person is playing, so it’s up to the killers to knock people off at night, while the townsfolk try to catch them during the day. It’s a perfect party game where co-operation is essential for survival.

2. Surviv.io

There’s Fortnite, there’s PUBG, and then there’s Surviv.io .

best-co-op-browser-games-surviv-io

Okay, admittedly, that last one is a browser game with super-simple graphics and a top-down perspective, but why should that count against it? It’s still an awesome squad-based Battle Royale shooter where teams of two or four players try to outlast the others.

For those unfamiliar with the Battle Royale concept (where have you been these past two years?), you start with almost no equipment and need to scour a large map for guns, armour and other resources. Then, once you’re stocked up (assuming you’re not dead yet), you head out to hunt down other teams or just hunker down and try to survive.

Last team (or person) standing wins!

3. Gracie & Mike

Something a bit smaller-scale than most of the offerings on here, Gracie & Mike is a 2D run-&-gun platformer that you can actually play with your friends in the same room (if you have gamepads).

best-co-op-browser-games-gracie-mike

Unusually for a 2D platformer, you play the game in split-screen, running through jungles and enemies’ hideouts, all presented with nostalgia-inducing 8-bit graphics. Think of it as a stripped-back version of the arcade classic Metal Slug.

4. Realm of the Mad God

This is another browser game that eventually made it over to a Steam release (which is free to play). Luckily, you can still play Realm of the Mad God for free in your browser, letting you enjoy one of the most intense shooter experiences alongside your friends. (Each instance has an 85-player capacity.)

best-co-op-browser-games-realm-of-the-mad-god

You traverse a vicious fantasy world, fighting increasingly powerful mutations, monsters and bosses while accruing “fame.” Death is permanent here, but you can use your previous character’s Fame points to purchase equipment for your next creation.

It may look simple, but this is a brilliantly designed co-op experience.

5. Devast.io

A gritty survival experience masked in cutesy top-down graphics, Devast.io is an online game set in a post-apocalyptic world where the extent to which you co-operate or go solo is entirely up to you.

best-co-op-browser-games-devast-io

You start by gathering resources from trees and stones while desperately seeking out food, with the aim of eventually building up a self-sustaining base out in the wasteland. There are other players in the world as well as hostile creatures and radiation to worry about.

Do you join up with other survivors and choose to build a better world or just kill them and loot their corpses?

6. Pokemon Showdown

Best Coop Browser Games Pokemon Showdown

Pokemon is one of the most popular gaming series in the history of gaming. It’s only right that a browser version exists to get your Pokemon fix. Enter Pokemon Showdown . This battle simulator ensures that you can train your Pokemon prior to competing in any professional games. Make your own team or pick from random players around the world. What makes Pokemon Showdown even more appealing as a browser game is that it’s good for both children and their parents. Jumping straight into battle is the best part. No long console-level intros – just straight battles. What more do you need with Pokemon?

7. Catan Universe

Best Coop Browser Games Catan Universe

The classic board game has been brought to your browser. Trade, build, gather resources and destroy your friends all without leaving your home. Just like the board game itself, Catan Universe ensures that outsmarting your friends or random opponents is now the name of the game. Do you want to block a tile with the robber? Do you want to play the Seafarers or Cities and Knights campaign? Fire up Discord or a video chat call with your friends and make this an immersive co-op and multiplayer experience.

This one is less about a specific game and more about the itch.io website, which is full of browser-based games that are full of fantastic pick-up-and-play co-op gaming. As of the beginning of June 2021, there are a total of 169 co-op browser games available Games like Guardian Sphere and Life in Quarantine are fantastic choices to kill some time with friends.

Best Coop Browser Games Itchio

The gameplay is simplistic, and you can quit each game without feeling any guilt about having to start over during your next play session. My Rusty Submarine helped me waste over 30 minutes before I even realized I was playing as I struggled to keep my appropriately-named rusty submarine afloat.

9. Powerline.io

Best Coop Browser Games Powerline

If you want to relive the glory days of Nokia phones from decades past, Powerline.io is the game for you. Just like Snake, the game that appeared on Nokia phones, your goal is to compete against players from around the world to “eat” the beams (or cubes) and grow as long as possible. The trick is not to run into any of the other competing snakes, else it’s game over for you. It’s simple, it’s basic and it’s a whole lot of fun.

Of course, games are not the only entertaining digital way to spend time with friends who are far away. You can also watch videos with friends online in real time.

11 Best Online games for Mac in 2024

by Saad Muzaffar | Jan 4, 2024

Online games sure have come a long way, right? I can recall when they were pretty much relegated to browser-based quiz games and Flash knock-offs of retro arcade titles.

The quality of online games has improved greatly since then, and even better, they tend to focus on competition.

It’s you against your friends (or working with your friends against others) in pretty much every genre available: first-person shooters, real-time strategy games, RPGs, and (of course) MOBAs and MMOs. In this article, we’re going to go over the best Online Games for Mac in 2024.

Looking for something different? We also have a list of the 100 Best Mac games  in all the best categories.

Our absolute favorite Mac Online games

Minecraft Mac gameplay 2

Often hailed as the ultimate sandbox, Minecraft is the digital equivalent of a limitless LEGO set, blended with adventure and a hint of survival. In Minecraft, you start in a randomly generated world full of diverse biomes, from lush forests to arid deserts. The beauty of Minecraft lies in its simplicity: you mine for resources, and then you craft. Build a humble wooden hut, a towering castle, or an entire city. The only limit is your imagination.

The reason why we consider Minecraft to be one of the best online Mac games is because of the limitless potential that the game possesses. You can join servers with thousands of other players, participate in massive building projects, engage in PvP battles, or explore custom-made worlds with unique gameplay mechanics. The community is massive and vibrant, offering mods, custom textures, and unique maps that transform the game in endless ways.

System requirements : macOS 10.14.5 Mojave and up. ARM, 4 GB, Apple M1 or Equivalent

League of Legends Mac featured

League of Legends

League of Legends is one of the most successful gaming franchises in the world today. The fact that some of you have seen “Arcane” on Netflix speaks volumes of LoL’s popularity.

While it bears a strong resemblance to Dota 2, League of Legends is everything but a Dota clone. Being a MOBA, LoL follows the standard MOBA gameplay of three lanes, a jungle, towers, minion waves, and 5v5 combat. Everyone starts at the same level and gold, but then LoL turns it up a few notches. LoL is extremely complex and difficult to master and is considered one of the most challenging games in the market.

In terms of in-game purchases, the effects are purely cosmetic: No pay-to-win advantages. League of Legends is also 100% compatible with macOS. Just make sure you have a stable internet connection and you’re good to go.

System requirements : macOS 10.12, Intel Core i5-750, 2 GB RAM, 12 GB HD space, AMD: HD 6570 or Intel HD 4600 Integrated Graphics with 1 GB of Video Memory.

Path of Exile Mac Gameplay

Path of Exile

Path of Exile is a must-try for fans of the Diablo games. Featuring a similar-looking UI in a grim-dark setting with top-down controls, PoE is a banger of an MMORPG.

With 6 different classes to choose from, a skill tree so diverse it should be called a skill forest, and tons of builds for your liking, there is an almost endless amount of content to go through in PoE. And this is without factoring in the constant season updates the game gives for free.

And if you think this is all too much for one person to handle, then why not grab a friend or two? Co-op in this game is very simple. There are no level restrictions and you and your friends can play through the entire campaign co-op. macOS is also supported and crossplay is available.

Psst, Path of Exile 2 is also coming on macOS soon, so this is a great time to get into the game!

System requirements : macOS 10.13, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core, 8 GB RAM, 40 GB HD space, Radeon Pro 450 Graphics.

Starcraft 2 Mac featured

StarCraft 2

Another older game that continues to entertain, Starcraft 2 is a real-time strategy game from 2010. Released by Blizzard as a sequel to 1998’s Starcraft. It wasn’t until 2017, however, that the game became one of the best free games for Mac, unlocking the Wings of Liberty campaign, online multiplayer matches, and various game modes. Starcraft 2 now makes money through microtransactions for items such as skims, voice packs, and war chests.

For the online multiplayer component, gamers select from one of three possible races: Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. No matter the race, players must take control of a large-scale economy that tasks them with gathering materials required for building their base and researching the technology used to develop an army capable of conquering their foes. And when it comes to battle, each facet of your strategy is there for you to micro-manage, right down to individual unit control.

Although there is a single-player story campaign, the multiplayer component has received better reviews whether you’re looking to tackle co-op missions with a friend or compete against others in 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4 battles.

System requirements : OS 10.11, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M or ATI Radeon HD 4670 or better, 30 GB hard drive space.

Dota 2 Mac featured

Here we have one of the more generous free-to-play online games, as DotA 2 gives you everything you need to be competitive upfront and throughout. Developed by Valve , this game is the offspring of Defense of the Ancients, a community-created mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion pack.

What does that mean? Well, it means you’re getting a MOBA with the pedigree and experience behind it to provide hundreds of hours of intense competition against an active community of players. At its core, DotA is a game about 5 on 5 combat, placing teams on separate bases on a map that must be defended. Each player controls a “hero,” and teams must work together to utilize the strengths of their heroes to destroy a structure—called an “ancient”—within the opposing team’s base.

All heroes are free, as is everything you need to play and win the game; in-app purchases won’t make it easier to take out your opponents, they’ll just get cosmetic items for your heroes and the world they inhabit. And of particular interest to Mac gamers, Metal support via MoltenVK is coming soon.

System requirements : S 10.9, Dual-core Intel Processor, 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA 320M, Radeon HD 2400, Intel HD 3000 or better, 15 GB hard drive space.

World of Warcraft Mac featured

World of Warcraft

There was a time when World of Warcraft was the go-to title for online multiplayer gaming. Seems like every Mac gamer I knew had an account, it was just a matter of how long they kept it active due to the subscription-based payment system.

That system is still in place, but Blizzard offers two options to get into it. First, you can get the $59.99 World of Warcraft: Complete Collection —which comes with 30 days of playtime and access to the latest quest lines via a character boost to get your hero to the proper level. If your pocket is a little lighter, however, you can jump in by paying just the subscription fee…no base purchase required. You don’t get access to the newest quest lines, but you wouldn’t be able to use them, anyway, since you’ll have to spend the time to get your character up to level 110 to play them.

And just why would you want to subscribe to a game, anyway? World of Warcraft has been entertaining millions of MMORPG players since 2004. It gets expansions about every two years and offers plenty to do between those major releases. If the thing you hate most about quality RPGs is that they end, then you need to check out World of Warcraft.

System requirements : OS 10.12.5, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor, 8 GB RAM, 1GB AMD 5750, Nvidia 650M, 1.5GB Intel Iris Pro 5200, 78 GB hard drive space.

Rust Mac gameplay

Okay, but enough with the shooters, right? If surviving an online game means more to you than just not being shot, you may want to check out Rust, a massively multiplayer action RPG from Facepunch Studios .

Rather than starting with a gun and an enemy, Rust starts you out with just a rock and a torch. You must find ways to use these to create better tools, build shelters, find food and survive the harsh environment. This includes vicious animals and, of course, other players who see you as a threat. And you are a threat. If you don’t want to go it alone you can form clans with other players. But as you’d expect from a gaming community, those clans will break down and everyone will just end up killing each other.

One of Rust’s greatest assets is the visual design, which does a great job of laying out a bleak, apocalyptic landscape. The world may be harsh, but at least the world of Rust is pleasant to explore as you fight desperately for survival.

System requirements : REQUIREMENTS.

Baldur's Gate 3 Mac gameplay

Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3, the latest entry in the legendary RPG series, is a journey into the heart of the Dungeons & Dragons universe, infused with modern design and storytelling. Set in the Forgotten Realms, BG3 invites you into a world teeming with magic, mystery, and intrigue.

The game mechanics are a faithful adaptation of the latest D&D 5th Edition ruleset. Combat is a strategic affair, utilizing turn-based mechanics that allow for thoughtful and tactical decision-making. Whether you’re a seasoned D&D player or new to the genre, the game provides a satisfying blend of challenge and accessibility.

Multiplayer in the game is super fun, it has been rated as Game of the Year, and for good reason! (Boo Spiderman fans.) You can team up with your friends for some co-op D&D action, and face the dire consequences of the choices you make. The fact that you can share so many stories and blend your individual narratives leads to a surprising adventure.

Civilization 5 Mac gameplay

Civilization VI

This turn-based strategy game invites you to pick a civilization from history – be it the Romans under Trajan or the Maori under Kupe – and lead it from the stone age to the space age. You’re not just a leader; you’re a visionary, a strategist, and sometimes, a tyrant. Each decision, from where to build your cities to which technologies to research, shapes the path of your civilization.

Civ VI stands out with its dynamic city-building system. Cities sprawl across the map with districts and wonders, making geography a critical factor in your development. The game’s strategic depth is immense, with a multitude of ways to achieve victory: cultural, scientific, military, or even religious.

The game really shines in its multiplayer mode. Negotiate trade deals or declare war on your friends, form alliances, or backstab your way to victory. The unpredictable nature of human opponents adds a layer of complexity and excitement that AI can’t match.

System requirements : macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave), Intel Core i5 2.7 Ghz, 6 GB RAM, GeForce 775M, 17 GB

Our Criteria

Games have a largely subjective aspect to them. You may love some games while I might prefer completely different ones. This is why we identified a set of criteria that every single one of our picks has to meet:

Native support: This should go without saying, but each and every one of the games mentioned here has to be officially supported on macOS and does not require Bootcamp or Wine. We’ve seen too many Top Games for macOS lists that feature Windows-only games…

macOS performance:  There’s a plethora of reliable Windows-PC reviews, guides, and videos on the internet. However, they never acknowledge MacOS gaming. This is why our focus is always on the Mac performance of the games listed here.

Critical acclaim : Video games can be subjective, but to keep this guide as relevant as possible, we only consider proven games with positive reviews from both professional reviewers and average gamers.

Pricing : We all want quality, but pricing also plays an important role. We always keep in mind price tags and production value to give indies and AAA games equal chances. After all, we’re after games that are fun to play. Looks are important but fun gameplay is even more so.

Last updated: January 5, 2024

Last updated a long time ago, this guide was in need of love. This time around we:

  • Removed Fortnite because of lawsuit shenanigans
  • Removed Counter Stike Global Offensive because Valve wasn’t nice enough for CS2
  • Added Civilization 6
  • Added Borderlands 3
  • Added Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Added Minecraft

Bottom line: This guide has been updated to fully reflect the current state of our favorite Online Mac games!

Safari vs. Chrome: The Ultimate Showdown for Best Browser Performance

online games safari browser

Choosing to use Safari vs. Chrome depends on your specific needs. Do you prioritize speed, integration, security, or the potential for useful extensions? In this Mysterium VPN blog, we'll compare the two browsers directly, offering helpful insights to pick the browser that best suits your needs.

Safari vs. Google Chrome: What You Should Know

  • Safari is optimized for Apple devices, offering features like Handoff, iCloud Keychain, and smoother performance. At the same time, Chrome provides greater customization, an extensive library of browser extensions suitable for different tasks, and cross-platform compatibility.
  • Both browsers focus on user security and provide a reliable browsing experience. However, Safari offers more privacy features like Intelligent Tracking Prevention and less browsing data collection, catering to people who care about their online security.
  • Safari is more energy-efficient and tends to use less RAM, making it favorable for Apple users who are concerned with battery life and system performance. Chrome is the choice for those needing a broad selection of extensions and cross-device syncing, especially people who don't like Apple devices.

What Is the Safari Browser?

Safari, introduced in January 2003, is a web browser developed by Apple for iOS devices and others within the Apple space. It’s built into all of your devices' Apple operating systems, including macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS.

online games safari browser

What Is the Chrome Browser?

Google Chrome is a web browser developed by Google. It was launched in 2008 for Microsoft Windows and built with free software components from Apple WebKit and Mozilla Firefox.

Safari and Chrome: A Comprehensive Comparison

Safari and Chrome are stellar web browsers, each with unique strengths. They cover all the essentials of browsing, but their additional features, from native tools to customization and extensions, set them apart.

Chrome is known for its fast performance, outstanding customization options, and extensive library of extensions, while Safari provides better integration with Apple’s ecosystem. Below, we will examine Safari and Chrome across five critical areas: features, user experience, options for web extensions, performance, and security features.

User Experience and Interface

Both Safari and Chrome are a lightweight browser, excelling in providing a fantastic user experience and user interface. For instance, Safari integrates better with macOS, featuring unique UI tweaks and a more minimal design. Safari’s search bar is conveniently placed at the bottom across all pages, making it easy to use, whereas Chrome has its address bar in the middle and moves it to the top on search result pages.

This seamless integration with Apple devices, coupled with features like Handoff, Share Sheet, iCloud Keychain, and Touch ID, Safari, Apple’s native browser, has features that make it a favorite among Mac users.

On the other hand, Chrome, designed primarily for ChromeOS, emphasizes efficient task and browsing history management and bookmark handling. It presents a more minimalist interface with intuitive navigation, such as easy tab opening.

Both provide keyword and URL suggestions, but Safari presents Siri Suggested Websites above the Google-suggested keywords, making the browsing experience more personalized. Ultimately, the choice between the two depends on your preference for a minimalistic interface or seamless ecosystem integration.

Performance Battle

Choosing a browser hinges on its performance. While both Safari and Chrome demonstrate speedy performance, benchmarks show variable results. For instance, Chrome outperforms Safari in the Speedometer 2.0 benchmark, while Safari excels in the JetStream test.

However, Safari has some advantages over Chrome:

  • It uses less RAM, making it more efficient in terms of memory usage.
  • Its lightweight design contributes to seamless operation.
  • It’s effective in managing demanding tasks.
  • It provides a smoother practical experience compared to Chrome.

In terms of everyday use, Safari’s integration with Apple hardware allows it to load websites up to 50% faster than Chrome and offers extended battery life during browsing and video streaming. So, if you’re an Apple user, Safari might be the better choice for optimal performance.

Privacy Policies and Practices

Safari holds an edge over Chrome in terms of privacy. Unlike Chrome, which collects substantial data for ad personalization, Safari prioritizes user privacy, reflecting Apple’s hardware-based business model versus Google’s ad revenue model.

Safari safeguards privacy with its intelligent tracking prevention feature that blocks cross-site cookies and integrates with services like Apple Pay without needing to track users.

However, Chrome doesn't entirely lack privacy features. It protects your sensitive information with encryption in its password manager, and users are advised to use Incognito mode for more private browsing. Yet, compared to Safari’s comprehensive protection, it is less privacy-focused.

In the end, if privacy is a significant concern for you, Safari’s commitment to user privacy and its hosting of privacy features make it a better choice.

Security Strengths and Weaknesses

Safari and Chrome both prioritize security. They utilize Google’s Safe Browsing database for phishing and malware protection and offer password management functionality. Yet, there are some differences between the two. Chrome fights online threats by releasing security updates more frequently than Safari, which has near-weekly updates.

On the other hand, Safari limits browser features and plugins available, leading to fewer known vulnerabilities, while Chrome has a wide range of customizable security extensions. While Safari may be more secure out of the box, Chrome gives you more control over your security settings.

Suppose you use Google's password manager or Safari's iCloud keychain. In that case, you'll also benefit from dark web monitoring. This feature uses data analytics to alert you to the exposure of your passwords and email addresses in data leaks and breaches.

Extension Ecosystem

The browser world can be significantly improved with the use of extensions. While Safari features necessary extensions, it doesn’t have nearly as many as Chrome. Google Chrome’s extensions library is vast and varied and offers many free apps, making it the clear winner in the extensions game.

These extensions are essential for tasks such as clipping information, ad-blocking, and finding coupons, improving the overall browsing experience. Chrome is recommended if your work requires many extensions due to its ability to manage them effectively.

While Google Chrome may have higher RAM usage, it’s preferable for users who value the speed and availability of many extensions. Therefore, if extensions are a significant part of your browsing habits, Chrome would be the better choice.

Safari vs. Chrome: Cross-Platform Compatibility

Considerations such as device compatibility and cross-platform use are paramount when selecting a browser. Safari is the default browser pre-installed on Mac devices and iPhones, while Chrome is available on a broader range of platforms, including Windows, Linux, Mac OS, iOS, and Android.

In terms of user experience, Safari offers a tab overview on both desktop and mobile platforms, which contributes to a consistent user experience across all of your Apple devices. Chrome, on the other hand, provides this feature only on mobile, along with a page for recent tabs accessed on different devices.

online games safari browser

Google Chrome vs. Safari: Personalization Options

Personalization and customization options can greatly enhance the user experience. Chrome users can personalize their experience by customizing themes and colors directly from a side panel and can even create distinct profiles with their own themes for work and personal accounts. Themes in Chrome can be further personalized by mixing and matching different colors to achieve their dream aesthetic style.

On the other hand, while Safari allows changes to the home screen background, it doesn’t provide the same extent of customization with regard to overall color and theme on the desktop and only recently began supporting mobile extensions for iOS users. Safari’s homepage can be personalized by adding or removing features like frequently visited sites, iCloud tabs, and privacy reports, as well as by choosing a specific background.

Ultimately, the choice between Safari and Chrome will depend on your personalization and customization preferences. If you value extensive customization options and the ability to create multiple profiles, Chrome is your go-to browser. However, if you prefer a simpler interface with user-friendly options, Safari is the right choice for you.

Safari vs. Chrome: Battery Life and Energy Efficiency

Battery and energy efficiency are priceless for mobile device users. Safari is more economical than Chrome on iOS and Mac devices, especially when multiple tabs are open. Chrome, on the other hand, has a reputation for consuming more energy, particularly with numerous tabs open. Regardless of the browser, it’s recommended to keep open tabs to a minimum to conserve energy.

Chrome’s power consumption is significantly higher than Safari’s over a 12-hour period. However, Chrome has shown improvements in energy usage over time.

In conclusion, if you’re an Apple user and your battery's longevity is crucial to you, Safari would be the better option. However, if you regularly work with multiple tabs and are less concerned about energy efficiency, Chrome might be the right choice for you.

Key Differences Between Google and Chrome

Overall, picking the right browser isn’t universally applicable to all users. It depends on your needs, preferences, and the types of devices you use. Safari is robust, feature-rich, and has privacy capabilities. It’s integrated into Apple’s iOS and MacOS devices, making it a suitable choice for users deep within the Apple ecosystem.

On the other hand, Chrome supports sign-in with a Google Account for a seamless experience that provides access to bookmarks, passwords, and syncs across devices, ideal for users preferring Google’s services, including Google apps and Google Translate, or requiring cross-platform accessibility.

In conclusion, the right browser depends on what you value – easy integration with the Apple ecosystem or high performance and extensive customization options offered by Google Chrome.

Choosing Between Safari and Chrome

Which browser should you choose based on your device? Find out below!

Safari vs. Chrome on Mac

Safari is typically favored on Macs for its superior battery efficiency and smooth integration with the macOS ecosystem, including features like Handoff and Apple Pay.

Safari vs. Chrome on iPhone

Chrome for iPhone offers a familiar user interface for those who use Chrome on other devices and good cross-device syncing, but it can't be set as the default browser. It may not be as optimized as Safari for iOS energy and data efficiency.

In summary, both Safari and Chrome each offer unique strengths. Safari stands out for its seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem, superior privacy features, and energy efficiency, making it ideal for Apple users.

Chrome excels in performance, extensive customization options, cross-platform compatibility, and a vast library of extensions. It is a great choice for users who value speed, customization, and Google ecosystem integration. Ultimately, the choice between Safari and Chrome boils down to your personal needs, preferences, and the devices you use.
