Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, plus singer Adam Lambert, spoke today of the “heartbreak” at having to once again postpone the highly anticipated UK and European dates of their Rhapsody World Tour.

Following a sensational run across Asia and Oceania last winter, Queen + Adam Lambert were originally set to rock the UK and Europe in summer 2020. During the band’s spring break, however, the coronavirus outbreak left them no choice but to prioritise the safety of fans, crew and venue staff by postponing the dates until 2021.

Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic still far from resolved, the band are forced for a second time to reschedule the tour dates, moving them to 2022. “Under continuing Europe-wide Covid restrictions there’s no possible way the tour can go ahead as planned for this year,” Queen + Adam Lambert said today. “The prospect of again not being able to look forward to performing and getting to experience those wonderful audiences is just heartbreaking.”

To ease their loyal fans’ disappointment, Brian, Roger and Adam have announced a new and expanded set of 2022 dates for the UK and Europe Rhapsody shows, when they hope it will finally be safe to perform for large audiences.

Promoters for the Rhapsody Tour confirmed today that all previously purchased tickets continue to be valid for the corresponding rescheduled shows. Ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase for information on ticket exchanges for the new dates. New dates can be found at QueenOnline.com. “We wish to make it clear. None of the shows from 2020 and 2021 have been cancelled, just re-arranged due to COVID-19. We really do hope that as many people as possible who were booked for those original dates in 2020 will still be able to join us for the shows.”

On getting back to performing live again Roger Taylor says: "When we do eventually get to play in front of live audiences it will be with a ferociously renewed attack and we shall revel in the wonderful experience of actually interacting with them again."

Frontman Adam Lambert said: “It’s so disappointing to have to postpone again, but safety comes first, and we look forward to spring 2022 when we will be back, better than ever.”

The postponement of this year’s tour dates is especially disappointing for the band, who were looking forward to playing the shows as part of a significant landmark for Queen. With 50 years now having passed since the 1971 recruiting of John Deacon, completing Queen’s classic line-up, 2021 marks a Queen Golden Jubilee that the band was hoping to celebrate with fans.

Nevertheless, The Show Must Go On – and it will in 2022 when Queen + Adam Lambert return to touring and embark on their next chapter together.

Twice postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the much-anticipated ‘Rhapsody’ Tour by Queen + Adam Lambert is finally all set to rock its way across the UK and Europe for eight weeks from late May to late July.

The show has been hailed as “the latest astonishing chapter in the story of rock’s greatest band, putting a brand new, highly distinctive spin on over five decades of Queen’s music.” The arena tour begins on Friday, May 27 with the first of two consecutive dates at Belfast’s SSE.

Brian May, Roger Taylor, Adam Lambert and the band then perform at Manchester’s AO Arena on May 30 and 31, moving on to a brace of shows at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on June 2 and 3. They then begin a rarely-achieved residency of no fewer than ten nights at London’s The O2 on June 5, during which time there are also two shows in Birmingham at the Utilita Arena (11 and 12).

100 Of The Best 90s Alternative Songs: When The Underground Went Mainstream

In all, the ‘Rhapsody’ Tour will see Queen + Adam Lambert performing 36 shows across Europe. After a two-year wait, audiences will finally have the chance to see the epic new show which drew awe and acclaim on its initial outing in North America in 2019, and became rock’s hottest ticket of the year in the US. The concerts will be the band’s first European dates since the worldwide box office sensation that was the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic .

Queen + Adam Lambert’s all-new ‘Rhapsody’ show – praised as “a marvel of technical advances” – followed its North American outing with 17 stadium concerts across South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand in 2020 playing to nightly audiences as large as 75,000 when in Sydney, Australia, Queen + Adam performed for Fire Fight Australia, before the show was abruptly curtailed by the unprecedented world lockdowns introduced in April 2020.

Ever the masters of extravagant performance and sumptuous visuals, Queen + Adam Lambert’s newest production is again the work of Stufish Entertainment Architects’ set designer Ric Lipson and lighting designer Rob Sinclair. Both have a long-term association with Queen including the band’s eye-popping News Of The World -inspired touring show of 2017-18.

Lipson describes the two-and-a-half-hour production as “a new chapter in the history of the band. Once again for them expanding the parameters of what a live music experience can be, this new show delivers the band’s most spectacular yet, an innovative and interactive celebration of the continued power of Queen’s music.”

Since Adam Lambert first shared the stage with Queen for the 2009 American Idol final, his dynamic performances have reinvigorated the band and delighted fans worldwide. Starting as they meant to go on, their first full show together in June 2012 thrilled a crowd of half a million strong in the Ukrainian capital city of Kiev. Since then, May and Taylor’s musical fireworks have been matched by Lambert’s vocal prowess and stage presence, making for an explosive combination.

Over 200 gigs later, the partnership has remained a commercial and critical triumph, playing to enraptured full houses in every corner of the world, with total audiences of close to four million. The band’s Live Around The World album, released in October 2020, provided Queen with its tenth No. 1 album in the UK and gave Adam Lambert his first, and topped charts around in the world.

Roger Taylor said: “We are all absolutely gagging to get out there and start filling arenas with Queen again. I was lucky enough to play a tour last October to promote my album Outsider, which was great fun but it was obviously a more modest outing. However, playing with Queen is the real deal. It was so frustrating when the ‘Rhapsody’ Tour was interrupted in March 2020, and it feels as if we’ve been suspended in aspic ever since. But I’m absolutely overjoyed that the half a million or more people who bought tickets for this leg of the tour have kept their tickets. The absolute joy of being able to get out and connect with thousands of people is palpable.”

Brian May said: “Just the thought of getting back on tour is incredibly exciting. I can feel the tension building already! Two years ago we finished the Australia leg of our tour, which included the Fire Fight benefit concert at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney, in front of around 75,000 people. That was like another Live Aid and it was one of the best concerts we’ve ever played. So we were on a real emotional high after that. We’d played the States, Korea, Japan, New Zealand and Australia – and we were then plunged straight into lockdown. So we now have a real obligation to deliver, after postponing these dates twice. We’ve got the crew back together. There will be no compromises. This is a going to be a full Queen show. There’s nothing like it. We are all so excited to see people’s reactions and exceed everybody’s expectations.”

Adam Lambert added: “I am so anxious to get back on stage! It has been incredibly frustrating for all musicians over the last two years, because we really do live for this physical connection with the audience. We had just played an amazing tour of America, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, and we were all ready to play Britain and Europe, but then lockdown happened. I was very lucky to do a few shows on my own last year – but there is nothing like being on a stadium and arena tour with Queen. It is such a thrill and I am desperate to get out there again.”

Queen + Adam Lambert’s UK and Europe ‘Rhapsody’ Tour includes the following shows:

Queen in talks about final tour with Adam Lambert in 2023

But new music seems unlikely...

Queen guitarist Brian May says that the band are currently talking about heading out on tour with singer Adam Lambert next year – possibly for the last time.

Speaking to Variety , May was asked if they would tour in 2023.

He replied: “There’s a strong possibility that we’ll be going out together again. We’re talking about that as you and I speak, making those decisions.

“Now, it does get to be more of a decision as you get older. I’m not 35 anymore, and leaving home for two months is not easy.

“But we feel as like if we’re all fit and well, that we’d like to go out there one more time. It would probably be in the United States in 2023 at some point. I’m hoping that happens, but it’s a strong possibility.”

Talking about the possibility of making new music with Lambert and Queen drummer Roger Taylor , he said that when the three of them get together, the live show is “all-consuming”.

“We feel as if the live stuff is what the public wants,” he explained.

“And when we’re not on tour, Adam has his own career — he just gave me some stuff that he’s working on for his next album, and it’s remarkable.

“So, I suppose that the opportunity to make an album together doesn’t come up, but I’m not saying that it couldn’t happen.”

In the wide-ranging interview, May also paid tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

May performed ‘Love Of My Life’ at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium in September.

He told Variety: “They The Foo Fighters feel like family to Roger and I, and Taylor Hawkins was the link – the boy who would always ring me up at 3 a.m. in the morning.

“I miss that call. Always full of enthusiasm. “Hey Brian, you should come over and jam.” Of all people to be taken too young, he is the most sadly missed.”

TICKETS: Tickets will be available via a general onsale beginning Friday, March 31st at 10AM local time at LiveNation.com .

MORE ON TICKETS:

Queen + Adam Lambert appreciate that it is an enormous task to try and stop scalpers from taking advantage of fans wanting to purchase tickets for the tour. In an effort to help minimize resale and keep ticket prices at face value for fans, the band are collaborating with the venues’ ticketing partners to restrict the ability to transfer tickets for The Rhapsody Tour so that they may only be transferred between fans at the original price.

Fans will still have protection against unforeseen circumstances. Those who purchase tickets and are no longer able to attend their show will be able to sell their tickets at the price they paid using a face value ticket exchange, including the Ticketmaster Face Value Exchange – which is free to use for buyers and sellers. More information on how the Ticketmaster Exchange works is available here .

Unfortunately, the states of NY, IL, and CO have laws in place which protect ticket scalpers – these laws prohibit artists from being able to restrict the transfer of their tickets to face value exchanges only. For shows in these states, Queen + Adam Lambert strongly encourage fans to only buy or sell tickets to one another on face value exchanges. More information can be found here , with more details to follow in the coming weeks.

King and Queen to enter No Adults Allowed garden at Chelsea Flower Show

The garden is the first in the history of the show to be designed by children, for children – but grown-ups must make a special pledge to gain access.

queen on tour uk

The King and Queen are to tour a “No Adults Allowed” garden at the Chelsea Flower Show on Monday.

Charles, the new patron of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), and Camilla are to go ahead with the annual royal visit as the King continues with a flurry of public duties while he undergoes treatment for cancer.

They will meet growers and horticulturalists and explore The RHS No Adults Allowed Garden – the first in the history of the show to be designed by children, for children.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024

Initially there was only one rule for adults: they were not allowed to enter.

But Clare Matterson, director-general of the (RHS), said she had secured entry for grown-ups after some “tough negotiating”.

The children agreed adults can tour the garden if they pledge to do one of three things – either plant a tree, donate to RHS Campaign for School Gardening or find a flower that starts with the first letter of their name.

RHS No Adults Allowed Garden

The No Adults Allowed garden is described as a “joyful journey through a fantastical landscape where children can explore the magic of lush woodland, bountiful meadows and a wetland with heightened colour and fun oversized bog plants”.

The King and Queen will tour Chelsea, accompanied by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the day before the annual horticultural celebration opens to the public.

Royal visit to Chelsea Flower Show

Charles and Camilla will also see the Addleshaw Goddard Junglette Balcony Garden, where hardy tropical planting has been used to mirror the structural layers of a jungle.

And they will visit the Moroto no IE Garden, by Kazuyuki Ishihara, which features vibrant acers and a tumbling waterfall to “blend the beauty of the natural world with the practicalities of family life”.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024

Charles is a passionate gardener, who spent more than 35 years transforming the garden at his Highgrove home in Gloucestershire.

Ms Matterson said: “It means the world to the RHS and our wider horticultural family of growers, nurseries, gardeners, designers and plantspeople that Their Majesties The King and Queen, accompanied by The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are visiting RHS Chelsea again this year.”

Chelsea Flower Show

The visit is the latest in a number of official appearances for Charles since his return to public duties after his cancer diagnosis.

Queen Camilla issued a playful warning to King Charles yesterday after revealing her husband is “getting better”, joking to guests at a royal engagement: “Well, he would be [getting better] if he behaved himself.”

The Queen, 76, has been frank in her view that the King should slow down following his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

But the King has appeared in high spirits after throwing himself back into public life following the greenlight by doctors last month.

The King appeared in a buoyant mood on a visit to the Royal Opera House last night as he made a surprise appearance – which came a week after claims he snubbed Prince Harry twice on his visit to the UK.

The Duke of Sussex spent three days in his home country for the first time since February and while many expected him to meet his father, this did not happen.

A representative for the Duke confirmed that this was the result of the King’s busy schedule, which has seen him attend five events in the past 48 hours.

The second alleged snub came when Buckingham Palace announced that Prince William was to be made colonel-in-chief of Harry’s old military regiment.

The announcement came while Harry was still in the UK, which many interpreted as a deliberate slight.

King Charles says he’s ‘not too bad’ amid cancer battle

King Charles opened up about his cancer battle at the Royal Opera House last night and said he is feeling “not too bad”.

The Monarch , 75, only just returned to work last month, and despite reports that he would be undertaking a reduced summer schedule, he attended five events in just 48 hours – culminating in this surprise appearance at the opera.

Performers learned that the King would be watching 20 minutes before the show began and he later joined them on stage for a standing ovation.

Meghan Markle reveals hopes for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s futures

Meghan Markle has opened up about how the children she met in Nigeria reminded her of her own – Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, two.

Recalling a visit to a school on the first day of her three-day tour with Prince Harry , she said: “I saw myself in them. I see the potential in all of these young girls – and, by the way, in these young boys as well.

“It’s what we see in our own children – to give them that promise and excitement for their futures,” she added to PEOPLE .

Prince Harry praises the ‘transformative power’ of sport

Prince Harry praised the “transformative power” of sport while reflecting on his recent trip to Nigeria in celebration of the Invictus Games.

The Duke of Sussex said this was brought home to him on a visit to a military hospital in Kaduna, where he witnessed “very low morale” among the injured.

“Out of those 50, there were two guys who were smiley and happy. And they were the two who were in Germany [at the Düsseldorf Invictus Games] last year,” he told PEOPLE .

“That experience of knowing what life post-injury is like gives people so much hope. And hope, hope, hope is a huge part of this.”

Harry founded the games in 2014 to give wounded, sick and injured service people a chance to showcase their sporting talents.

Prince Andrew loses role to Queen Camilla

The disgraced Duke of York has lost his role as patron of York Racecourse to Queen Camilla .

She was recently given the role after Prince Andrew stepped down in 2019 when he stopped being a working royal.

Prince Andrew was stripped of his military titles and royal patronages following his association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The racecourse said in a statement: “York Racecourse is both honoured and thrilled that Her Majesty The Queen has agreed to be the Royal Patron of York Racecourse.”

Lady Amelia Windsor ‘so excited’ to make Chelsea Flower Show debut

Lady Amelia Windsor has revealed that she is “so excited” to make her debut at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show .

The model and freelance writer, 28, is showing off her horticultural skills by making a pot of wildflowers for the event.

“So excited and honoured to be a very small part of the team for Kent Wildflower Seeds’s first garden at the Chelsea Flower Show,” she wrote.

Amelia, known as “Mel”, is 43rd in line to the British throne.

She is the granddaughter of the Duke of Kent and King Charles’s second cousin once removed.

Queen Camilla says she would love to visit Hogwarts

Queen Camilla has revealed that she would love to visit Hogwarts .

She made the revelation on an engagement in Sussex yesterday that celebrated the area’s literary achievements .

When asked by a schoolgirl which fictional place she’d most like to visit, the Queen Consort said: “One place I think I’d love to go is Hogwarts.

“I’d like to jump on the Express and I’d like to go to Hogwarts and sit in that wonderful hall and wait for the hat to come round and pick a house for me.’

“I’d like to look at Dumbledore, and Hagrid, and Snape, and see all the pictures going mad and people jumping out of pictures and the food flying about.”

Free portraits of King Charles now available to more public institutions

Additional public institutions can now apply for a free portrait of King Charles from 5 June.

As part of His Majesty The King’s Official Portrait Scheme , hospitals, coastguard operations centres, job centres, universities and Church of England churches can receive the free portraits.

“His Majesty’s accession marked a new chapter in the history of our nation,” Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden said in the government’s official announcement.

“Our public authorities and established churches are an essential part of the fabric of the nation and it is right that they have the chance to commemorate this moment.

“Displaying this new portrait also serves as a reminder of the example set by our ultimate public servant. Like his mother before him, The King has dedicated his life and work to serving others.”

New royal portrait exhibition opens today

A new exhibition showcasing over 100 years of royal portrait photography has opened today (17 May) in London.

Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography is located at the King’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace and features some of the earliest known pictures of the royal family, including previously unseen portraits.

It also includes photographs from the first-ever portrait photographer to be given a royal warrant , Hugo Burnand, who has been capturing the current monarchy at milestone occasions for over two decades.

He told The Independent : “I always want people when they’re looking at the subjects in my photographs to feel that they could be in conversation with that person.”

Queen Camilla issues first Royal Warrants

Queen Camilla has revealed her favourite goods and services by giving out her first Royal Warrants .

Among those in receipt of the honour, which acts as an official seal of approval, are London department store Fortnum & Mason , sparkling wine producer Shane Connolly, and the florist who was responsible for the designs at last year’s coronation.

The chief executive of Fortnum & Mason, Tom Athron, said the company was “honoured” by the Queen’s decision.

“We are particularly thrilled to have received these grants because of what we believe the warrants stand for,” he said.

“To receive a royal warrant in 2024 requires a rigorous focus on acting for a sustainable future, supporting the country’s rural and farming communities and protecting the arts and heritage crafts.”

Warrants can last up to five years and within this time companies are permitted to trade using the coat of arms of the royal they are associated with.

Queen Camilla shares update about King Charles’s health

Queen Camilla shared an update about King Charles’s health at her engagement in Sussex yesterday.

According to royal reporter Roya Nikkhah, she admitted that while the Monarch is “getting better” it came with the caveat: “Well, he would if he behaved himself.”

The alleged comments come as the King attended five engagements within the space of just 48 hours – the most recent of which was a visit to the Royal Opera House last night.

The Queen Consort was in Rye yesterday for an event celebrating the area’s literary achievements.
