The proud owners of Stone Mountain Safaris are Leif Olsen and Larry Olson. Leif and Larry have been friends for many years and in the spring 2005 decided to purchase Stone Mountain Safaris. Stone Mountain Safaris Ltd has been operating for over 32 years in Northern BC, in a 5,000 square mile guide area with it’s lodge on a 500 acre ranch, set in the scenic Toad River Valley.

This was my second hunt with this Outfitter. I had previously hunt Mountain Goat with him and was successful. This trip (Fall of 1998) I hunted Stone Sheep and harvested a beautiful full curl ram towards the end of the 15 day hunt. This Outfitter has an excellent game rich area in Northern BC. He has experienced guides and runs a First class operation.

Just looking at booking a Stone sheep hunt and am leaning towards Stone Mountain Safairs. Just wondering if anyone has any opinion on them or their area. He seems to have a lot of allocations and darker rams. I just want a nice representitive species not looking for the next book ram. I am a non resident and can likly only do this trip once as it took years to save for the trip. Just want to be sure I would be getting my best odds for a ram. I know there are several other outfits out there that offer the hunt, but really there is only about half dozen that I think I would even concider. Please let me know your opinions of the outfit as well as the area they are in. Thanks in advance!

Not sure whats wrong with trophy hunting as long as the meat is not wasted, brings a lot of revenue in for the various provinces and also suports a whole outfitting industry. I personally plan on driving up so I can keep all of the meat and plan to drop a moose as well. Anyway this thread was not started to debate killing "one of your sheep" it was started to get peoples input on the area in particular and the outfitter if anyone has an opinion on them. I could just as easily change my address to BC and hunt "one of my sheep". And I am paying you to hunt "one of your sheep" as there are taxes and royalties that are associated with hunting in BC as a non resident. Enough of the soap box, lets get the thread back on track with input on the Stone Mountain area in particular.

Alberta is a large, diverse province with rolling prairies, farmland, river bottoms, Boreal forests, and large expanses of the northern Rocky Mountains. Many species of big game, waterfowl, upland game and predators inhabit Alberta. Long known for monster whitetails, Alberta also is home to big mule deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, black bear, cougar, Canada moose, and bighorn sheep. In fact, 7 of the 10 largest bighorn sheep in Boone and Crockett record book are from Alberta. In addition to big game, Alberta offers some top notch bird hunting. Serious waterfowlers know about the large flocks of ducks and geese that call Alberta home or migrate through.

British Columbia Hunting Information

British Columbia is an excellent hunting destination that offers a wide variety of game species. Winter Wolf and BC Trapline Adventures

Trap line trips and Lynx combination hunts are available from early December to mid-March. (Lynx close Feb 15th, Wolverine close January 15th and Wolves are open all winter).

I truly feel this is one of the most successful trap trips and lynx hunts on the market today. Every past trip we have done has had multiple catches with our personal best being 14 wolves, 2 wolverine and a lynx in 5 days! We stagger these trips two weeks apart to ensure every client sees the benefit of 300-900+ sets work over a two-week period. We show you how we do the sets and have a blast doing it.

The trips are out of the lodge and conducted off of snowmobile. We can do this trip as either a trap line/ lynx hunt combo, or as a straight Lynx hunt. We have a lot of wolves, lynx and wolverine and usually do these trips with a minimum of 2 guests. Based out of the lodge, these are fun trips and can be tailored for your ability on a skidoo.

We have something for everyone from absolute beginners to terrain and trails that are challenging for the most dedicated rider. We use Skandic snowmobiles and with their wide 20” track they are stable enough for anyone to ride.
