Sundowner is a fully covered, purpose built catamaran designed for socialising – a floating bar. Unlike a yacht, we have a flat surface and no trip hazards. There is ample room to move, and high heels are welcome.

A glass of sparkling or soft drink is included in your sunset cruise ticket price, and the bar is open throughout the cruise for you to purchase further drinks. Cash or card welcome. Sorry, no BYO.

Sundowner departs from Coral Sea Marina, North Village, which is only a short walk from the main street of Airlie Beach. Coral Sea Marina is a vibrant award winning marina which includes the Garden Bar & Bistro with uninterrupted views across the marina and Sorrento’s Restaurant & Bar located alongside the boardwalk in the North Village.

We circumnavigate Pioneer Bay and as we have very little draft we are able are able to get up close and personal to the many points of interest along the Airlie Beach coastline, and enjoy a bit of turtle spotting in Turtle Bay. After the sun sets, enjoy the lights of Airlie Beach at night, while we slowly make our way back to port.

Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday islands provide the perfect backdrop for our sunset cruises. Sundowner is also available in the afternoon for  private charters for birthdays, corporate groups, weddings , hens and bucks parties, or any celebration.

Sunset Cruise prices:

• $69.00 per adult (aged 15+) and includes a glass of sparkling for the adults and nibbles.
• $59.00 per child (age 3 to 14) and includes a glass of soft drink/juice.
• Children 2 and under travel free, but MUST hold an infants ticket as they must be on our manifest and count towards our total passenger limit.

Our nibbles consist of a simple platter of crackers, vege sticks, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, kabana, and dip, which are shared with all guests. Pringles are available to purchase on board.

Some items contain dairy or gluten. You are welcome to bring your own small nibbles along if you wish. We do recommend bringing something for kids to keep them happy during the 2 hour cruise.

We recommend you make a reservation for dinner after the cruise. We arrive back to port promptly at the advertised seasonal finish time.

Booking Conditions and Cancellation Policy All tours are subject to minimum numbers and weather conditions and as such, may be cancelled at the discretion of the operator.

We also reserve the right to alter the destination or route pending the weather for guest safety and comfort. The operator will offer alternative days or full ticket refunds in the event of operator cancellations within 24 hours of travel.

Full ticket cancellation is offered up to 24 hours before travel.

If you, our guests, cancel within the 24 hours prior to your cruise a 50% fee applies. Cancel after 9am on the day or no show a 100% fee applies.

If eligible, refunds of the ticket price will be issued excluding any booking or credit card fees paid.

Please advise us before booking if any passengers are under 18 years old to ensure this is the appropriate trip. 

You must reconfirm all booked tours prior to travel as specified on your voucher. If applicable, notes such as dietary requirements, pick-up locations and additional fees should also be confirmed at this time. Reconfirmations cannot be actioned through Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel, and must be done so directly through the Service Operator as specified on each ticket.

It is your responsibility to notify us of ticket discrepancies. Please read through the details on your voucher thoroughly to ensure all details such as passenger names, ages and dates of travel on vouchers are correct.

It is the responsibility of all passengers travelling to advise both your travel agent at the time of booking and vessel check-in agent before boarding of any medical conditions including food allergies you may suffer from.

You need to allow adequate time to check-in prior to the specified departure time. 

Prices/Extra Costs:

All prices are stated in Australian dollars and include GST. Surcharges over peak holiday seasons may apply. 

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices and extra costs. Extra costs may include EMC fees, Stingersuit/Wetsuit Hire, Luggage Storage, Insurance, Linen Hire, National Park Fees, Fuel Levies, Dietary Fees, etc. Bonds may also apply.

We will also endeavour to communicate these extra costs with you at the time of booking, and on your ticket. However, it is your responsibility to confirm which (if any) additional costs apply with each Service Operator upon reconfirming your trip.

Travel Risk/Insurance:

It should be noted that adventure travel involves risk. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard clients, we cannot be responsible for personal injury or loss due to the actions of our clients which are beyond our control. We highly recommend that all clients have travel insurance covering illness, injury, loss or damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on the confirmed date of departure. You should also ensure your travel insurance will cover special circumstances including weather events preventing guests from travelling to their tour departure destination and cancelled flights due to unforeseen circumstances. 

Merchant Fees:

Please be aware operators pass on credit card merchant fees so there is a non-refundable 1% surcharge for VISA and MASTERCARD card purchases.

All ticket/voucher reissues attract a $20 administration fee.

Open Date Vouchers / Gift Certificate:

Shipping Costs are in addition to the ticket price and will be added at check-out. Shipping costs are non-refundable and do not makeup part of the ticket value. 

E-Vouchers incur no shipping fees. You have 5 years to use the value of the voucher. Seasonal Price Rises will apply if travelling out the current seasons pricing. Vouchers can be exchanged for free up to the full value of the voucher excluding credit card fees and charges.

Cancellations

Client Cancellations:

No shows or client cancellations made within 7 days of departure forfeit 100% of the total ticket price. 

Sailing Whitsundays are required to notify the operator of any cancellations within the specified cancellation period (24 hours). It is your responsibility to make sure you submit your cancellation request with adequate time, and during standard business hours (9am-5pm), to allow us to contact the tour provider.

Transfers between tours can be made at the suppliers discretion, however, it should be noted that supplier fees may apply. Tour transfers also incur a $20 administration fee. 

It is compulsory that all cancellation requests are in writing and sent via email to [email protected]. Cancellations attempted via online chat or phone will not be actioned.

Supplier Cancellations:

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices, alter itineraries, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport and vary itineraries and services if necessary.

All departures and itineraries are subject to weather. Tours may be changed or cancelled for any reason at the discretion of the Service Operator. If the Service Operator has to cancel the trip or activity (prior to departure) and we cannot offer a suitable alternative, then a refund will be given minus a 20% administration fee and any associated card fees. We strongly recommend that you have travel insurance, especially during the wet season.

In the unlikely event of your trip being cancelled or stood down, all guest communication is required to go through our Online Store via telephone or email. While there is a Sailing Whitsundays retail outlet located Airlie Beach, please be aware that they operate as a separate entity and are unable to access reservations made by the Mr Travel online department.

All refunds are in Australian Dollars and must be made to the card of payment. Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel is not liable for exchange rate fluctuations or fees, or any other merchant/bank fees associated with domestic and/or international transactions.

Where a full refund is applicable, there is the option to transfer the whole cost of the tour to another tour or “Credit” to avoid the administration fee. A transfer fee of $20 will apply.

You will be emailed confirmation once the refund has been processed. Once the refund has been processed, it may still take time for the banks to clear the amount. Please allow 7-10 business days for the funds to clear into Australian accounts and up to 21 business days for international accounts.

Accountability/Misconduct:

All Service Operators have the right to provide client feedback and to cancel bookings based off of feedback from other Service Operators.

Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel will treat this as any normal client cancellation and therefore the cancellation fees stated in the Client Cancellation Policy will apply.

Our Tallship mono hull yacht will transport you to a yesteryear type of sailing trip from Airlie Beach out over the waters of the Great Barrier Reef in the Whitsunday Islands for beautiful sunset sailing tour with drinks and nibbles under full white sheets of sails gently responding to the wind.

We depart Airlie Beach at 5.00pm  (check in 4.45pm) to begin our sunset sail across the waters of the beautiful Whitsundays with a complimentary glass of bubbles in hand and a platter of nibbles to enjoy as we watch the sky change to pastel hues like the rainbow as the sun sets down behind the mountains out to the west of Airlie Beach.

Guests may choose to sit back relax and just take all the beauty in at peace or jump in and hoist the sails and learn from the crew how to sail a 64 foot timber schooner on the Great Barrier Reef.

We have a fully licenced bar on board our yacht and a platter of cheese, dips and nibbles with bread are provided by our crew on our sunset sailing tours.

Families just love to join this sunset tour as it is a unique way to spend some time together in the peace and serenity of the ocean to watch the sun slowly disappear and leave a kaleidoscope of colours across the sky and when its all over we sail in the moonlight back to Airlie Beach.

Guests begin to disembark at 7.00pm and make their way to one of the many restaurants and bars around Airlie Beach to continue their night out in town.

Guests can cancel up to 72 hours before the sail. A 20% service fee applies.

There are no cancellations within 72 hours before the sailing date.

If we cancel, there is a full refund or guests are offered the opportunity to sail on another day.

What a fantastic tour. The guide was really knowledgeable about the area; segways really easy to learn how to use ( even though I was nervous)😊. Would definitely recommend. He also took some fabulous photos too.

Wonderful board walk tour, was a lot of fun, very family friendly. Zak was our host and he was very patient and knowledgeable, we learnt a lot of neat facts along the way. The resturant was superb as well, good choice! Definitely recommend for a relaxing evening seeing Airlie in an exciting way.

“supplier” means any tour operator or other supplier of the services “you” means the guest booking and person named on this reservation booking “we”, “our” means The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre and A.J.LAURENT PTY LTD These terms and conditions apply to all bookings made through The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre. Placing a booking with The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre and paying a deposit constitute acceptance of these terms and conditions.

Booking Conditions

For bookings made more than 30 days prior to travel, a 25% deposit is due to secure your booking with the balance due 30 days prior to travel. For bookings made within 30 days of travel, the full payment is due immediately to secure your booking. If we do not receive your full payment within 30 days of your travel date and you do not contact us to cancel, your deposit is forfeited and your booking may be automatically cancelled by us, the supplier or both.

Prices are quoted in Australian dollars, inclusive of GST, and all payments must be made in Australian dollars. Your reservation will only be confirmed when funds have been received and are cleared. The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre is not responsible for delays in postal delivery, bank or payment system processing. It is your responsibility to ensure that payments are received within the times specified. If the deposit or final payment is not received by the due date, The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre has the right cancel the booking. If your final payment is not paid by the due date and in any event within 30 days of your departure, we have the right to cancel your booking and retain the deposit in full without any reimbursement to cover our costs and those of any supplier.

Cancellations and Amendments to Bookings

If you wish to cancel or amend any booking made you need to contact us in writing. You can only cancel or amend a confirmed booking by contacting us directly. If you do not contact us to cancel prior to your booking departure date, you may forfeit your deposit and further costs.

Cancellation Charges and Amendment Fees

Any cancellation or amendment made more than 30 days before travel will incur an administration fee of 25% of the total booking fee. All cancellations or amendments made within 30 days of your travel date departure will incur both an administration fee of 25% in addition to the individual supplier’s fees. Any changes requested to your booking, including but not limited to dates, are subject to availability and if they are not available, you may be required to cancel and agree to the cancellation terms. IMPORTANT NOTE: Some services and activities may not permit any refund for certain bookings. You should check with the individual supplier or The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre prior to paying for your booking to confirm any special non-refundable conditions.

Travel Insurance

We recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover your reservation, and valuable items (e.g. cameras). Your travel insurance policy should include coverage to protect against unforeseen and last-minute cancellations or medical conditions that may prevent travel and also to cover any medical emergencies during travel at minimum.

Supplier Tours and Services Changes

In the unlikely case of a vessel break down, maintenance or unavailability, the supplier will supply an alternate vessel of a similar standard and quality. Itineraries may be affected by elements beyond our and the supplier’s control such as wind, tide, rain, storm or other weather conditions which make travel dangerous and require a delay or cancellation. It is the skipper's requirement to ensure passenger safety at all times and may use his/her professional judgment in any manner to keep his/her guests and crew safe. In the instance of such delay or cancellation, alternative options will be provided by the supplier. In the event a cancellation or delay occurs and your tour or service is cancelled and rescheduled, you will receive a full refund if you are unable to rebook your tour or service.

You are using these services and taking any tours at your own risk. We are not responsible for any loss or damage, including direct, indirect or consequential loss you may suffer as a result of your reservation, booking or anything related to your tour or services provided by any supplier. You need to ensure you are medically sound, fit and physically able to use the services. We are not liable for the event that you are refused access to any services or tours due to your medical, physical or other reasons, including intoxication. Any such claims should be addressed to the suppliers directly. You should note that sailing can be a dangerous activity and while crews will make every effort to ensure your safety, they cannot be accountable for actions or injury to you that may be ‘beyond their control’. Every effort is make to ensure your safety and you may be required to complete a pre departure questionnaire, and sign a travel agreement waiver during the check-in process of your tour with the supplier directly. We are not affiliated with nor responsible for our suppliers in any way other than as intermediary to arrange their services on you and their behalf. If you have any issues, injury, suffer any loss or damage, you need to take it up with the supplier directly. If we are obligated to cancel your travel arrangements for any reason, the liability of will be limited to a refund of all monies paid by you.

Providence V Day & Sunset Sails Terms and Conditions

Our minimum numbers are six people in order to sail. You will be offered an opportunity to transfer to another day or can ask for a full refund. If you do not show, your cruise will be non-refundable. We have a no cancellation policy ie if we cancel for any other reason ie due to weather, we will offer you the opportunity to sail on another date or give you a full refund. We reserve the right to change the route or destination if necessary because of, for e.g. weather conditions. If you lose snorkelling gear or stinger suits you will be charged for the replacement of lost goods. It's a barefoot experience. We collect your shoes upon boarding and return them for the Hill Inlet walk. The Master's directions are to be obeyed at all times. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard our guests, we cannot be responsible for any damage, personal injury or loss due to the actions of passengers that are beyond our control. Each guest (or parent/guardian of children or others) must sign indemnity waivers upon boarding provided on our ipad. All departures and itineraries are subject to weather and maybe changed or cancelled at the discretion of the Master. Stinger suits are provided during stinger season (November to May) and you are strongly advised to wear these suits which are provided free of charge. If you fail to take this advice, you do so at your own risk. We are fully licensed. No BYOG thanks. We do have a 'card only' bar. The master of the vessel must be obeyed at all times. Private Charters 50% deposits are required for all private charters. The above terms and conditions also apply to Private Charters.

Wilmington, North Carolina, Is The South's Best City On The Rise

Hollywood has been reveling in the wonders of Wilmington, North Carolina, for decades. It’s time we follow suit.

Like a seasoned character actor, Wilmington has always excelled at playing its part—but not just any part, every part.

Situated between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, the city has spent decades transforming into whatever setting it has needed to be. In the late 1990s, it became an idyllic Cape Cod village for the teen drama Dawson’s Creek , and then it mimicked Los Angeles for Iron Man 3 . Nicknamed Wilmywood, Wilmington has long been revered by Hollywood for its mild temperatures and versatility—and recently travelers have begun to take note.

Want a less crowded spring break escape ? Its beaches are at your service. Seeking a charismatic riverfront city? Wilmington’s scenic Riverwalk and majestic live oaks rival those of Savannah . When it comes to the attributes of a great vacation town, it lacks for nothing—and that’s precisely why readers named it their top pick for the 2024 South’s Best Cities on the Rise .

If Wilmington has been whiling away its days as a talented but underappreciated character actor, then this is the year it finally gets the proper credit. Last spring, I spent a few days getting to know the long-overdue lead and brought along my older brother, Cyrus, for the grown-up sibling trip we never knew we needed. Cyrus (a devout urbanite) and I (someone who wilts when away from the mountains or ocean for too long) each found our own reasons to love the city. I realized my lifelong dream of surfing (if only for a few seconds), and he relished every bite of the best gluten-free pizza he’d ever had. We both discovered the beauty of a sunset boat ride and vowed to make a return trip with our mom .

My brother and I might have different travel preferences, but one thing we’ve always agreed on is food. So, upon arriving in Wilmington, our first stop was the Thaiand-Vietnamese restaurant Indochine . On the eatery’s social media-famous garden patio, every detail—from the live bamboo and brightly painted rickshaw carts to the paper lanterns and burbling koi pond stocked with tangerine-colored fish—echoed my most recent visit to Southeast Asia. I slurped up a steaming bowl of Thai Khao Xoi (yellow curry-coconut soup with chicken and noodles) that was just $13 on the lunch menu, while Cyrus opted for Vietnamese pho. We agreed that both dishes would earn the praise of our mom, who’s notorious for her harsh but fair restaurant judgment.

With time to spare before checking into our hotel, we decided to explore the Cargo District, an up-and-coming live-work-play development composed almost entirely of recycled shipping containers. Inside the industrial boxes, you’ll find coastal-cool clothing at Auggie & Zo , handmade toiletries and candles at Salty Soap Co. , and exotic greenery at The Plant Outpost , among other shops. Crafted Outpost hosts a rotating selection of goods from local makers, and The Fuzzy Needle stocks “records, books, and other ephemera.” 

When we were ready for afternoon refreshments, the district overprovided. We powered up with iced matcha lattes at Blue Cup Roastery but also considered pints at Alcove Beer Garden next door, where containers stacked like Tetris blocks create plenty of cozy corners to duck into. After a little more shopping, we took a tour of End of Days Distillery , a pandemic-born facility that’s known for its award-winning gin, craft cocktails, and trendy tasting room.

Not five minutes from the artsy Cargo District, Wilmington’s historic downtown has a personality all its own. We rolled down a redbrick residential street, passing a parade of picturesque Queen Anne homes, until we stopped in front of our stay, Dreamers by DW . The inn is in a 134-year-old Victorian home, but nothing about the eco-friendly and design-focused bed-and-breakfast seems dated. The front yard is filled with a mix of native and tropical plants, providing a shady oasis where I spent languid afternoons lounging on a hammock in the corner of the expansive porch. Inside, the decor is modern and minimal, but every accent is intentional. A blush velvet sofa in the sitting room, custom dried-flower art, and a striking shade of deep blue covering the walls in the third-floor bedroom—each detail is dreamier than the last.

After freshening up, we walked the few blocks to Wilmington’s downtown. It was the weekend of the annual Azalea Festival (April 2 through 6 next year), so the atmosphere was particularly jovial. Waterfront seafood spots, ice-cream shops, and plenty of benches punctuate the Riverwalk, a 1.75-mile-long boardwalk on the Cape Fear River where you can stop and watch the boats dock.

Dinner that night was at Seabird , a labor of love from two-time James Beard Award-nominated chef Dean Neff. The restaurant celebrates the North Carolina shore through inventive dishes that utilize fresh catches from area fishermen and coastal foragers. Although the nautical-inspired dining room presents as relaxed but refined, the idea was never to gatekeep. In addition to being open for dinner, Seabird also offers coffee and counter-service pastries most days and hosts a weekly happy hour when local oysters are sold for $1 each. We sampled the menu, from the fall-off-the-bone Carolina Reaper Sorghum Pork Ribs to the surprisingly light Swordfish Schnitzel, but the showstopper was the Seasonal Seafood Tower. There were a few familiar flavors like Southern pickled shrimp and firecracker saltines, though the real delight was in unexpected combos like smoked tuna with harissa aïoli and clams served on the half shell with a chili-and-fresh herb vinaigrette.

After a day spent pounding the pavement, I woke up the next morning more than ready for the salty waves and soft sands of the Wilmington shore. At wild Kure Beach (pronounced CURE-ee), we braved the impending storms to take a drizzly walk along the 711-foot Kure Beach Fishing Pier. Nearby Fort Fisher State Recreation Area features about 5 miles of protected, undeveloped shoreline plus primitive trails that snake through marshland and pass by an abandoned WWII bunker.

As with most coastal weather, the storms were temperamental and fleeting, so by the time we arrived in the town of Carolina Beach, the sun was peeking out and the only vestiges of the morning’s rocky start were a few lingering clouds. This was the day I would finally achieve my goal of learning to surf. As a perennial overachiever, I had high hopes for my performance, so who better to help me reach my potential than decorated professional Tony Silvagni ? He runs a surf school (under his name) out of Carolina Beach, where in addition to offering individual lessons and weeklong camps he also rents out chairs, umbrellas, surfboards, kayaks, paddleboards, and bikes.

I shimmied into a wet suit and strode into the water ready to hang ten. Unfortunately, the ocean had different plans for me. Despite my capable instructor’s best efforts, I spent most of the next hour doing little more than getting walloped by waves and working up a deep soreness in my shoulders. In my five attempts to stand up, I managed to string together two seconds only once, but it was more than enough. The exhilaration of ever so briefly catching a wave was electric.

I left buzzing with excitement until my brother teased me into submission. By the time we reached the Ferris wheel and carnival games of Carolina Beach’s old-school boardwalk, my ego was bruised and my stomach was grumbling. We followed the smell (and long line of people) to Britt’s Donut Shop , a cash-only institution where they’ve been making classic glazed donuts to order since 1939. I camped out at the wraparound counter and watched teenagers flip golden brown rounds in a steel drum fryer until at last my name was called. Inside an unremarkable white paper bag, I beheld pastry gold—impossibly light yeast doughnuts enrobed in just the right amount of still-hardening glaze.

If day one was Cyrus’ ideal itinerary, day two was mine. Our next nature-centered adventure brought us to Carolina Beach State Park , a portion of Pleasure Island that includes miles of wetland trails, a marina, a campground, and a storied 50-foot sand dune. While there’s plenty to explore in the park, my main reason for visiting was to see a Venus flytrap. Carolina Beach State Park is one of only a few places in the U.S. where the carnivorous plants grow in the wild. The easiest way to see them is to join a ranger-led tour (at 10 a.m. on Saturdays in the warmer months), but if you venture out on your own, check the edges of the Flytrap Trail and look closely; most of the plant’s identifiable “toothed” traps are only about an inch long.

With my outdoor cravings satiated, we spent the evening in the funky South Front District. Warehouses and old buildings have been converted into swanky wine bars, walk-up taco stands, and eclectic hangouts such as Satellite Bar & Lounge , a tavern where taxidermy, vintage couches, and a wide selection of craft brews bring in a diverse crowd. Across the street is Benny’s Big Time Pizzeria , an Italian restaurant from Vivian Howard , star of the PBS shows A Chef’s Life and Somewhere South . Order a wood-fired pie, but don’t ignore the house-made pasta or the best-selling Southern Fried Chicken Parm appetizer either. The bite-size nuggets are topped with hot honey, Parmesan, and pickled peppers and served in a pool of creamy, salty stracciatella.

Wilmington’s biggest strength is that it has a little something for everyone, so we used our last day here to check off a few of the city’s top hits, starting with breakfast burritos and banana bread inside sunny Drift Coffee & Kitchen . We followed up with a stroll around Airlie Gardens , the gorgeous grounds where movies such as Nicholas Sparks’ The Choice were filmed. I felt small standing under the generous arms of the 500-year-old Airlie Oak and marveled at the patchwork facade of the Bottle Chapel. Airlie Gardens is also the best place to see the city’s collection of blush and hot pink azalea blooms every spring. We logged our final Wilmington seashore by spending the afternoon at resort-friendly Wrightsville Beach , where we watched surfers tackle the waves, and then meandered through the vibrant downtown and historic square. 

Beach vibes were high—and so were our spirits—as we embarked on our last adventures of the trip: an early dinner at the Panamanian restaurant Ceviche’s and a sunset boat cruise with Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tours . As we rode around the Intracoastal Waterway, I sipped a canned cocktail from our earlier visit to End of Days Distillery, felt the wind blow through my hair, and witnessed the sky change from fiery orange to a more docile periwinkle. Along the way, our captain pointed out various islands and birds. The thought that the night couldn’t get any more perfect had just crossed my mind when, right on cue, a dolphin crested the surface of a wave, revealing his friendly fin. Now that’s movie magic.
