Along with Safari, the Harrier is also due a facelift with similar updates, and both SUVs are expected to launch in October.

Tata Motors has begun testing the majorly updated Safari that’s due later this year, and camouflaged test mules have been spotted on our roads once again . The upcoming Tata Safari facelift will take design inspiration from the Harrier EV concept that was previewed at Auto Expo earlier this year. A majorly overhauled interior along with a new turbo-petrol engine under the hood is also expected to be on the cards.

Tata Safari facelift exterior design updates

With the facelift, the Tata Safari will have a completely redesigned front fascia. It will retain a split LED headlamp set-up, but the upper LED DRL will be a full-width light bar stretching across the bonnet. Meanwhile, the main headlamp cluster in the bumper below is now vertically positioned with a new trapezoidal shape. This means the bumper itself has been completely redesigned, while the grille gets new horizontal slats.

There aren’t major changes in profile, however, the Safari facelift can be seen with camouflaged wheels, which means there could be a new design for the alloys. At the rear, the SUV will likely get slimmer and connected LED tail-lamps, and a slightly tweaked rear bumper. These design updates will also make it to the ICE-powered Harrier facelift that’s also due later this year.

Tata Safari facelift interior and features

Although the interior of the Safari facelift has not been spied yet, we expect a major overhaul there too. Tata has already introduced the new 10.25-inch touchscreen on the Harrier and Safari with the Red Dark Edition , but we expect a few more changes to the dashboard design as well. Perhaps the new two-spoke steering wheel that was recently seen on the Nexon facelift test mule could also make it to the Safari facelift.

Tata Safari facelift powertrain

The Safari facelift will continue to be powered by its 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 170hp and 350Nm of torque, mated to either 6-speed manual or automatic gearboxes. Tata's  new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine   which is currently under development could join the line-up at a later stage. 

Tata Safari facelift production, launch plan

As we recently reported, Tata Motors will start production of the Safari facelift at its Pimpri plant from September 2023, and a market launch could be expected by October 2023, just before Diwali. Upon launch, it will continue its rivalry with the likes of the  7-seat Mahindra XUV700 , and the  Hyundai Alcazar .

Tata Motors will launch the Tata Safari 2023 and the Tata Harrier 2023 in India today. The company has made very significant updates to both SUVs. The changes are very much needed as the Tata duo has hardly been able to challenge the Mahindra pair of the XUV700 and the Scorpio (click here to read) . The new Tata Safari and the new Tata Harrier are basically the facelift models of the SUVs with their design language quite similar to what we saw on the Tata Nexon 2023. The features and specifications of the SUVs have already been revealed. The major announcement today would be the price. Stay tuned as we will be bringing all the live updates for you.

The 2023 Tata Safari facelift has been launched at a starting price of Rs 16.19 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2023 Tata Harrier facelift price starts at Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

2023 Tata Safari, 2023 Tata Harrier 5-star safety

The 2023 Tata Safari and the 2023 Tata Harrier have scored a five-star safety rating in both adult occupant protection and child occupant protection categories at the Global NCAP.

The Safari and Harrier have achieved the highest Global NCAP score for adult and child occupant safety among Indian cars.

The engine and transmission have been carried forward from before. It is the same Kryotec 2.0-litre diesel engine (170PS of max power and 350Nm of peak torque) with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT options.

Apart from all the aforementioned variants, the Safari facelift and the Harrier facelift will get Dark Edition variants as well.

Even the pre-facelift Safari and Harrier have the all-black Dark Edition variants.

Tata has made a lot of updates to the exterior design of the Safari and the Harrier. If you look at these SUVs from the front or the rear, there is no resemblance to the pre-facelift versions.

Both SUVs get a new grille. There are newly designed LED headlamps with sequential LED turn indicators. There are new LED taillamps. The alloy wheels have been redesigned as well.

Tata Safari 2023, Tata Harrier 2023 variants

Both Safari 2023 and Harrier 2023 have four variants each.

The Safari is available in Smart, Pure, Adventure and Accomplished variants.

The Harrier gets Smart, Pure, Adventure and Fearless variants.

Tata Safari 2023, Tata Harrier 2023 price

We expect the flagship Tata Safari 2023 to be priced in the range of Rs 17 lakh to Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom). Rival Mahindra XUV700 is priced between Rs 14.03 lakh and Rs 26.57 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Tata Harrier 2023 might sit in the price range of Rs 16 lakh and Rs 26 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Mahindra Scorpio-N comes in the price bracket of Rs 13.26 lakh to Rs 24.53 lakh (ex-showroom).

• Tata Safari petrol: The Safari SUV, which is currently only available with a diesel engine option, is expected come with enhanced safety features.

Tata Motors is expected to drive in the facelift version of its flagship three-row SUV Safari soon. Though no clear timeline has been shared by the carmaker, Tata Motors was spotted recently testing a Safari under the wrap of camouflage on the streets of Pune. The Safari SUV, which was launched early last year, is currently available only with diesel engine options.

Tata Safari is offered at a starting price of ₹ 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹ 23.75 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered in three broad variants XZ+, XZA and XZA+. Tata also offers the Safari in various editions which include Jet, Kaziranga, Dark, Gold and Adventure variants. It rivals the likes of Mahindra XUV700 and MG Hector Plus among the three-row SUVs in India.

According to spy shots, the upcoming Tata Safari model does not show any major changes on the exterior. The headlight, taillight and the bumper look identical to the model currently on sale. Minor cosmetic changes can be expected in terms of design of the new Safari SUV.

Though there are no major changes outside, the test unit gave a sneak peek into the the interior of the Safari. It shows a new infotainment screen, which appears to be a floating one, besides other changes.

Among the other changes that is expected from the new generation Safari is enhanced safety mechanism. Tata Motors is likely to introduce Advanced Driver Assistant System, or ADAS technology, in the upcoming Tata Safari facelift models. It is also likely to offer 360 degree camera as well.

Tata Motors is likely to use the same 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is used under the hood of the existing models. The engine is capable of churning out 170 PS of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic torque converter unit.

The forthcoming Safari Petrol will use a new 1.5-liter petrol engine that Tata Motors is currently developing. The 1.5-liter petrol turbocharged engine is anticipated to generate a maximum torque of 250 Nm. Both a dual-clutch automatic transmission and a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission are likely to be used with the engine. Since the brand hasn't given any information, the transmission options and engine performance numbers are presently simply estimates. The petrol version might potentially get paddle shifters and several drive modes (in automatic variant).

2023 Tata Safari & Hyundai Alcazar Facelift To Get ADAS – New Details

Mahindra had launched the new XUV700 3-row SUV in the country in 2021. The SUV has received an overwhelming response from buyers with a waiting period of up to 24 months. Interestingly, the top-spec variant of the XUV700 is the most popular in its line-up and is equipped with several high-end features including ADAS Tech that’s the main reason behind its huge success.

Now, Hyundai and Tata Motors are also planning to launch their SUVs with advanced driver assistance system. Tata Motors has started testing the Harrier and the Safari, which will come with several features including ADAS tech. On the other hand, Hyundai has recently launched the new Tucson with ADAS. The company has also confirmed that the Alcazar and the Creta will also receive these advanced driver assistant features. In fact, testing of the 2023 Hyundai Alcazar has also been commenced. MG has also confirmed the launch of the new Hector SUV, which will also come with ADAS.

The updated Safari will receive cosmetic design changes in the form of new grille and revised bumpers. The grille will have rectangular design elements with silver accents, while the silver bumper insert will be replaced by black finish.

The new Safari is expected to come with high-end features such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system and a 360 degree camera. The ADAS features are likely to include blind-spot monitoring, auto emergency braking, lane-keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert. The SUV will continue to feature a 170bhp, 2.0L turbo-diesel engine with 6MT and 6AT gearboxes. The SUV could also receive a turbo petrol engine.

2023 Hyundai Alcazar

Hyundai has also started testing the updated Alcazar 3-row SUV, which will come with cosmetic design changes and upgraded interior. The spy images reveal that the updated model will receive a tweaked radiator grille, LED headlamps and LED fog lamp. At the back, the 2023 Hyundai Alcazar gets wraparound LED tail-lights with the C-shaped light signature.

The upgraded model will also come with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant System) with features similar to those of Tucson. It will have autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, collision avoidance tech, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert and others. It is likely to be offered with the existing engine options including a 157bhp, 2.0L petrol and a 113bhp, 1.5L turbo-diesel. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Tata Motors at the Auto Expo 2023 has confirmed that the Harrier EV is based on the Gen2 architecture. It will also feature an AWD configuration which means there will be a two-motor setup – one on each axle. Other technical details regarding the battery and power output along with the range and charging capacity haven’t been revealed yet.
