Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is finally coming to Canada with 6 Toronto shows
Taylor Swift is finally booking an Eras Tour stop in Toronto and making amends with a six-show stint in the city.
The âAnti-Heroâ singer-songwriter announced on Thursday that she will be spending almost two weeks in Toronto in the fall of 2024.

Her first string of concerts is booked at the Rogers Centre â a venue with a capacity of more than 50,000 â on Nov. 14, 15, and 16, followed by another stint on Nov 21, 22, and 23.
âTurns out itâs NOT the end of an era,â Swift teased on Twitter while announcing the second leg of her tour coming to Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis and Toronto.
The mega pop star said tickets arenât on sale yet, but they will be on Wednesday . In the meantime, verified fan registration for Toronto shows is now open.
American musician Gracie Abrams, who Swift has called one of her favourite friends while performing together in Ohio, will be joining her on stage in Toronto.
In June, Canadian fans were left in the lurch when Swift announced 40 new dates for her Eras Tour, including Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia â skipping Canada entirely.
It seems Swift is eager to smooth over the rough patch with Canadians â the only other cities that got six shows were Los Angeles and Singapore.
The original omission pushed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to tweet at Swift with paraphrased lyrics from her own songs, posting, "It's me, hi. I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don't make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon."
Following the news of Swift's tour making it north of the U.S. border, the prime minister tweeted, "We're ready for it."
Weâre ready for it.
TAYLOR SWIFT WILL HAVE âENORMOUSâ IMPACT ON TORONTO
Destinations Toronto Executive Vice President Andrew Weir said Swiftâs shows will have an âenormousâ impact on the cityâs tourism and hospitality industries when they need it most.
âThat's a critical time for our industry, just as the time when a lot of business travel starts to subside, leisure travel for the holidays hasn't really picked up yet,â Weir told CP24.
As the only city in the country with shows booked, Weir said he expects the geographic radius of Swifties inundating Toronto will be significant, and in turn, reflect a substantial monetary value.
On average, Era Tour fans are spending U.S. $1,300 â equivalent to more than $1,700 in Canada â on tickets, merchandise, alcohol, food, parking and hotels, Canadian music correspondent Eric Alper told CP24.
âYou tabulate that, she could be raking in anywhere between $75 million and $100 million just based on these six dates alone,â Alper said.
He notes that several days linger between Swiftâs Toronto shows, which could leave room for more dates to be announced, or even a quick visit to stages in another major city, like Montreal or Vancouver.
THE ERAS TOUR SO FAR
The first leg of the Eras Tour launched in March with the final date booked in Brazil at the end of November 2023.After a few months to rest her vocal cords, Swift will be back on stage in Tokyo in February 2024.
The three-hour concert takes fans through the eras of the Grammy-winnerâs 17-year career, spanning from âLove Storyâ in her earliest era to her most recent âAnti-Hero.â
With the first stretch of the tour nearly in the rear-view, Swift wrote, âreally blows my mind that we have one last city on the US leg,â on Instagram this week before heading to Santa Clara.
While Canadian Swifties are rejoicing about the new tour dates, securing tickets could be a battle in itself. When tickets for the first leg of her Eras Tour were released, Swift broke Ticketmaster with insufficient supply to meet the extraordinary fan demand.

Justin Trudeau, on behalf of all Canadian Swifties, issues plea to Taylor to bring her tour to his country
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau awarded himself another prestigious title: leader of the Canadian Swifties.Â
On July 5, Taylor Swift announced more international dates for her Eras Tour , which will now continue until August 2024 and include over 50 stops overseas.Â
Her tweet included information about concert dates in cities across the pond, like Paris, London and Dublin. She also previously tweeted a list of performances scheduled in South America and Australia.Â
But, so far, it appears the 33-year-old singer will not play any shows in Canada.Â
After seeing that his fellow Canadians were left out, Trudeau issued a plea to the âLavender Hazeâ singer on behalf of all the Swifties up north who are desperate to see Swift live.Â
He decided to reference a few of her hits in his clever tweet .Â
âItâs me, hi,â he began in his reply to Swiftâs announcement, quoting lyrics from âAnti-Hero.âÂ
Trudeau continued to show off his knowledge of her music catalog by mentioning the â1989â track âI Know Places.âÂ
The 51-year-old politician wrote, âI know places in Canada would love to have you.â
âSo, donât make it another cruel summer,â he said, a nod to her recent single from her âLoverâ album. âWe hope to see you soon.â
Some Twitter users did not appreciate his public request.Â
âThis is SOOOO cringe,â one person said .Â
Others supported his efforts.Â
âFINALLY, MY PRIME MINISTER SPEAKS,â one Swiftie wrote .Â
Another fan complimented the musicianâs global star power and tweeted , âTaylor princess of the world collecting requests for her presence from world leaders left and right.âÂ
According to Billboard , Swift has not performed in Canada since she visited the country for her 2018 âReputationâ stadium tour.Â
While Canadians will have to wait and see if Trudeauâs plea works, other Swifties celebrated seeing their countries on the list of tour dates.Â
The Grammy winner was also enthusiastic about taking the Eras Tour worldwide. In her tweet on July 5, Swift said, âReally canât contain my excitement because⊠weâre adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour.â
She revealed that Paramore â whose lead singer Hayley Williams will be featured on the vault track âCastles Crumblingâ on âSpeak Now (Taylorâs Version)â â will open for her.
âHayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? Iâm screaming???â Swift wrote.Â
Following the Ticketmaster debacle last year , international fans who are hoping to purchase tickets will have to pre-register first to be eligible for pre-sales and regular sales.Â
Fans can find more information about the new dates and sale times on Swiftâs website.

Fans are following Taylor Swift to Europe after finding Eras Tour tickets less costly there
Thousands of Taylor Swift fans are following her across the pond after missing out on her U.S. concert tour last year or being put off by marked-up ticket prices.
Taylor Swift fans drinking at The Black Dog in Vauxhall, south London, said they were there thanks to the track âThe Black Dog,â in which the singer describes monitoring an unnamed exâs visit âinto some bar called The Black Dog,â through location share on her phone.

LONDON (AP) â Thousands of ride-or-die Taylor Swift fans who missed out on her U.S. concert tour last year or didnât want to buy exorbitantly priced tickets to see her again found an out-of-the-way solution: Fly to Europe.
The pop star is scheduled to kick off the 18-city Europe leg of her record-setting Eras Tour in Paris on Thursday, and planeloads of Swifties plan to follow Miss Americana across the pond in the coming weeks. The arena where Swift is appearing said Americans bought 20% of the tickets for her four sold-out shows. Stockholm, the tourâs next stop, expects about 10,000 concertgoers from the U.S.
A concert might sound like an odd raison dâetre for visiting a foreign country, especially when fans can watch the Eras Tour from home via the documentary now streaming on Disney+. Yet online travel company Expedia says continent-hopping by Swiftâs devotees is part of a larger trend it dubbed âtour tourismâ while observing a pattern that emerged during BeyoncĂ©'s Renaissance world tour .
Some North American fans who plan to fly overseas for the Eras Tour said they justified the expense after noticing that tighter restrictions on ticket fees and resales in Europe made seeing Swift perform abroad no more costly â and potentially cheaper â than catching her closer to home .
âThey said, âWait a minute, I can either spend $1,500 to go see my favorite artist in Miami, or I can take that $1,500 and buy a concert ticket, a round-trip plane ticket, and three nights in a hotel room,â Melanie Fish, an Expedia spokesperson and travel expert, said.
That was the experience of Jennifer Warren, 43, who lives in St. Catharines, a city in the Niagara region of Ontario. She and her 11-year-old son love Swift but had no luck scoring what she considered as decently priced tickets in the U.S. Undeterred, Warren and her husband decided to plan a European vacation around wherever she managed to get seats. It turned out to be Hamburg, Germany.
AP AUDIO: Fans are following Taylor Swift to Europe after finding Eras Tour tickets less costly there
AP correspondent Jennifer King reports Taylor Swift is heading to Europe, and her U.S. fans are following.
âYou get out, you get to see the world, and you get to see your favorite artist or performer at the same time, so there are a lot of wins to it,â said Warren, who works as the director of research and innovation for a mutual insurance company.
The three VIP tickets she secured close to the stage â âI would call it brute-force dumb luckâ â cost 600 euros ($646) each. Swift subsequently announced six November tour dates in Toronto, within driving distance of Warrenâs home. âAbsolute nose-bleed seatsâ already are going for 3,000 Canadian dollars ($2,194) on secondary resale sites like Viagogo, Warren said.
TOUR TOURISM: IS IT REALLY A THING?
Hard-core fans trailing their favorite singer or band on tour is not a new phenomenon. âGroupieâ emerged in the late 1960s as a somewhat derogatory word for the ardent followers of rock bands. Deadheads took to the road in the 1970s to pursue the Grateful Dead from city to city.
More recently, music festivals like Californiaâs Coachella and Englandâs Glastonbury, and concert residencies in Las Vegas by the likes of Elton John, Lady Gaga and Adele, have attracted travelers to places they wouldnât otherwise visit, Fish noted.
Travel and entertainment analysts have also spoken of a pent-up consumer demand for âexperiencesâ over material objects since the coronavirus pandemic. Some think the willingness of music lovers to broaden their fandom horizons is part of the same mass cultural correction.
âIt does seem like itâs more than a structural shift, maybe a personality transformation we all went through,â said Natalia Lechmanova, the chief Europe economist for the Mastercard Economics Institute.
As Swift hopscotches across Europe, Lechmanova expects restaurants and hotels to see the same boost that Mastercard observed within a 2.5-mile (4-kilometer) radius of concert venues in the U.S. cities she visited in 2023. The U.S. dollarâs strong value against the euro may also increase retail spending on apparel, memorabilia, beauty products and supplies for the friendship bracelets fans exchange as part of the Eras Tour experience, the economist said.
Former college roommates Lizzy Hale, 34, who lives in Los Angeles, and Mitch Goulding, 33, who lives in Austin, Texas, already had tickets to see the Eras Tour in L.A. last summer when they decided to try to get ones for Paris, London or Edinburgh, Scotland, too. They saw a Europe concert trip as a makeup for travel plans they had in May 2020 to celebrate Gouldingâs birthday but had to cancel due to the pandemic.
Goulding managed to secure VIP tickets for one of Swiftâs three Stockholm shows. He, Hale and two other friends scheduled a 10-day trip that also includes time in Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
âAs people who enjoy traveling and enjoy music, if you can find an opportunity to combine the two, itâs really special,â said Hale, who is pregnant with her first child.
FOR STOCKHOLM, 120,000 SWIFTIES CANâT BE WRONG
The local economic impact of what the zeitgeist has termed âSwiftonomicsâ and the âSwift liftâ can be considerable . Itâs no wonder the exclusive arrangement Singaporeâs government made with Swift to make the city-state her only tour stop in Southeast Asia earlier this year aroused regional jealousy .
No European governments have complained of their countries not being among the dozen selected for the Europe leg of the Eras Tour, although some fans have expressed surprise that Gelsenkirchen, a city with a population of about 264,000 is one of the three cities in Germany that made the cut.
Airbnb reported Tuesday that searches on its platform for the U.K. cities where Swift is performing in June and August â Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff and London â increased an average of 337% when tickets went on sale last summer.
Not to be outdone when it comes to trend-spotting, the property rentals company cited the demand as an example of âpassion tourism,â or travel âdriven by concerts, sports and other cultural events.â
In Stockholm , 120,000 out-of-towners from 130 countries -- among them 10,000 from the U.S. â are expected to swarm Swedenâs capital this month, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Chief Economist Carl Bergqvist said. Stockholm is the only Scandinavian city on Swiftâs tour, and airlines added extra flights from nearby Denmark, Finland and Norway to bring people to the May 17-19 shows, he said.
The cityâs 40,000 hotel rooms are sold out even though prices skyrocketed for the tour dates, Bergqvist said. Concert visitors are expected to pump around 500 million Swedish kroner, or over $46 million, into the local economy over the course of their stays, an estimate that does not include what they paid for Swift tickets or to get to Sweden, he said.
âSo this is going to be huge for the tourism sector in Sweden and Stockholm in particular,â Bergqvist said.
Nightclubs, restaurants and bars are seizing the opportunity to cater to fans with Taylor Swift-themed events, such as karaoke, quizzes and after-concert dance parties.
Houston resident Caroline Matlock, 29, saw Swift more than a year ago when the Eras Tour came to the Texas city. Now sheâs making more friendship bracelets and trying to learn a few words of Swedish as she prepares to see the 3 1/2-hour show in Stockholm. The idea of seeing Swift in Europe was her friendâs, and Matlock needed some persuading at first.
âI was like, âI only want to go if itâs a country I havenât been to. Iâve seen Taylor Swift,ââ she said.
Visiting the Scandinavian cities of Oslo and Gothenburg is on their itinerary. The concert is the last night of the trip and Matlock looks forward to interacting with Swifties from other countries: âAmericans tend to have a very obsessive culture, especially Taylor Swift-related, so Iâm curious if the crowd will be more toned-down.â
WILL TOUR TOURISM ENDURE AFTER ERAS?
It remains to be seen if the music tourism trend has legs as long and strong as Swiftâs and BeyoncĂ©'s, and if it will carry over to Billie Eilish, Usher and other artists with world tours scheduled next year. Expediaâs Fish thinks other big-name artists in Europe this summer will prove that booking a foreign trip around a concert is catching on.
Kat Morga, a travel consultant based in Nashville, isnât so sure. Morga saw Swift perform in Nashville last year and helped two clients with school-aged children book European family vacations this summer that include seeing Swift in concert. But she thinks the difficulty of navigating ticket purchases through language barriers, currency conversions, international banking regulations and the risk of cancellations will limit the appeal of regular gig getaways.
âI think this is an anomaly,â Morga said. âPeople arenât typically going to build their $20,000 huge family vacation only because Taylor Swift is there. Sheâs the one-off. Sheâs special.â
Booking Holdings CEO Glenn Fogel, whose company operates Booking.com, priceline.com, agoda.com, Kayak and OpenTable, is even less enthusiastic about concert tours as a tourism instigator. The Swift Effect causes a âlittle blipâ when the superstar goes to smaller destinations, but for the worldwide travel industry, âone star touring around does not make a difference,â he said.
âIt may just shift it a little bit. A person was going to go to the Caribbean for a week vacation. Instead that person (says), âLetâs travel to the Taylor Swift thing,ââ Fogel said. âIt doesnât increase it. It just moves it from here to there.â
AP journalists Colleen Barry in Milan, Chisato Tanaka in Stockholm, Anne DâInnocenzio in New York, David Koenig in Dallas, Thomas Adamson in Paris and Brian Melley in London contributed reporting.

Swift's Eras Tour has taken the world by storm since March 2023. The three-plus-hour tour features hits from each of Swift's album eras, from "Lover" to her Grammy Award-winning "Midnights." Getting tickets has become its own battle and many fans have waited hours in the Ticketmaster queue to hopefully snag some seats, if they could get a presale ticket code in the first place. While Swift continues to extend the tour, including new US dates, tickets remain hard to come by.
Below, we've put together a guide on everything to know about The Eras Tour, including the tour schedule, ticket purchasing details, resale ticket prices, and the concert film streaming options . You can also peruse resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.
Taylor Swift international tour dates
The Eras Tour international dates resumed on May 9 in Paris. The European tour will run until August 20 in London. UK prices are listed in pounds, and start times vary from city to city. Multiple shows have age restrictions for younger kids and specifics on seating and adult accompaniment. A few venues check that a ticketholder's ID matches the name on the tickets. US dates start in October and can be found under the following table.
Taylor Swift North American tour dates
The Eras tour will return to the US on October 18 in Miami. In addition to the Miami shows, Swift will perform multiple dates in New Orleans and Indianapolis. On November 14, Swift will head to Canada for several shows in Toronto and Vancouver. All North American shows start at 7 p.m. local time.
How to buy tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 tour
Original standard tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 sold out long ago for both international and domestic dates. All US tickets and many international tickets were sold through Ticketmaster , although select international locations used different services.
Tickets for most dates are available on resale websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats . These are generally higher-priced than the originals, which are no longer available. Keep in mind that some countries have rules regarding reselling tickets.
On StubHub, UK tour dates come with a note that ticket terms don't permit resale through unauthorized channels and might not be valid for entry. If this ends up being the case, StubHub notes that its FanProtect Guarantee will cover purchasers.
How much are Taylor Swift tickets?
Ticket prices vary by date and location. International resale tickets tend to be a bit cheaper than US resale tickets. It's worth noting that some of the cheapest tickets have restricted views.
StubHub's cheapest European tickets ranged from $190 (Madrid, Spain, on May 29) to ÂŁ954 (London, England on August 19). The latter is around $1,200 in USD. The lowest prices for most shows are around $200 to $1,000. On Vivid Seats , the cheapest tickets for these dates go for $278 and $963, respectively.
When it comes to North American shows, the cheapest StubHub tickets range from $1,447 (Vancouver, Canada, on December 7) to $2,520 (Indianapolis, Indiana on November 2). Most of the cheapest tickets are priced between $1,500 and $2,250. On Vivid Seats, the cheapest Taylor Swift tickets on these dates start at $1,368 and $2,227, respectively. The two resale vendors generally have similarly priced offerings, but this varies from show to show.

Who is opening for Taylor Swift's tour?
Taylor Swift has a variety of opening acts, from up-and-coming singers to established groups. Opening acts vary by date. For the European leg of the tour, Paramore will open for Swift. In the US and Canada, Gracie Abrams will be the opening act.
Will Taylor Swift add more dates to the Eras Tour?
Taylor Swift has already added additional stops to her tour due to popular demand, including her US tour dates this fall. She also added additional dates to some of her European city stops, including bonus performances in France and the United Kingdom, among other locations. It's unknown whether Swift will end up adding even more tour dates, but by the end of the upcoming US leg she will have been touring for almost two years, so fans shouldn't be surprised if she takes a break.
Will The Tortured Poets Department be a part of the Eras Tour?
It's good news for fans of "The Tortured Poets Department," Swift's new album that dropped on April 19, 2024. Swift is incorporating several of the new tracks into the Eras Tour, as evidenced by the first shows of her European leg. "The Tortured Poets Department" songs currently featured on tour include "But Daddy I Love Him," "So High School," "Down Bad," "Fortnight," "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," and "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart."
Since the Eras Tour is already pretty long, this means that Swift is also cutting down a few songs from past Eras that previously made the tour setlist. The songs that were removed from the setlist include "The Archer," "Long Live," "The 1," "The Last Great American Dynasty," "'Tis the Damn Season," and "Tolerate It."

Where to stream Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film in Canada
If you couldn't get tickets to one of her canadian shows, this is the next best thing.
Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour dominated concert venues and movie theatres alike last year, and now, it’s about to do the same to streaming.
Starting March 14th at 9pm ET/6pm PT, The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) concert film will begin streaming on Disney+ Canada. The film hit premium video-on-demand services like Apple TV and Google Play in December .
As the name suggests, The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) is a feature-length version of one of her Eras Tour concert performances that played in cinemas last year. However, the Disney+ version will feature five songs that were cut from the theatrical release: âcardiganâ and four additional acoustic songs. An exclusive one-minute clip from the film is also available on the App Store .
Stream Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on Disney+ here . Swift’s concert film coming to Disney+ follows the platform’s 2020 release of Folklore: The Long Pond Sessions , a documentary about the making of her best-selling album folklore.Â
The streaming version of The Eras Tour will no doubt help console fans who were unable to get tickets to Swift’s sold-out concert tour. As part of that world tour, the popstar will perform six shows in Toronto in November and three in Vancouver in December.

No, the nfl didn’t weigh taylor swift’s eras tour when scheduling chiefs games.
That said, a top NFL executive said that it did schedule some away games during weeks when Swift's tour was due to play NFL stadiums.

By now, everyone knows that Taylor Swift has “a guy on the Chiefs,” but no, the NFL did not plan the 2024-2024 schedule for the Kansas City Chiefs to make it easier for Swift to attend the team’s games.
NFL VP of broadcast planning Mike North was asked about the matter during a conference call with reporters Thursday and while he acknowledged that the league did consider Swift’s Eras Tour while building the schedule (more on that below), it was not a factor when it came to the Chiefs.

“I saw a lot of conspiracy theorists talking about Kansas City at Buffalo in the middle of the season, right when Taylor’s playing Toronto,” North said. “That one definitely did not hit our radar screen.”
That being said, North did say that the league had to take the tour into account for some other team schedules. In particular the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, and Indianapolis Colts, who all play in stadiums where Swift is scheduled to bring her Eras Tour in the fall.
“We certainly considered the tour dates that hit NFL stadiums,” North said. “I think she’s in Miami, maybe New Orleans, Indy. We certainly considered those.”
Indeed, those teams are all scheduled to be on the road around the time Swift hits up their cities.
Swift, of course, made a handful of appearances at Chiefs games last season to cheer on her boyfriend, Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce. Her appearances in the crowd drove real viewership, with the league and commissioner Roger Goodell expressing enthusiasm for the younger, female audience she is bringing to the games.
“The Taylor Swift effect is also a positive,” Goodell said during a Super Bowl week press conference, adding that “it’s great to have her a part of it. Obviously it creates a buzz, it creates another group of young fans, particularly young women that are interested in seeing, ‘Why is she going to this game?’ ‘Why is she interested in this game besides Travis?’ She’s a football fan. And I think that’s great for us.”

Taylor Swift âs Thursday (May 9) performance at the la DĂ©fense Arena in Paris marked the beginning of a new era â literally. At what she called âthe kick-off of the European leg of the Eras Tour,â Swift added a new section of songs from The Tortured Poets Department, which debuted on the Billboard 200 with 2.61 million equivalent album units and is currently No. 1 for a second week, in between the Australasia shows and a string of European shows through the end of August. As if to underscore the special occasion, Swift pointed out that it was the first time she had played those songs on the Eras Tour — âor as I call it, Female Rage: The Musical .â
For a truly global superstar, Swift hasnât toured much in Europe on a serious scale, but both French fans and a significant number of concert tourists from the U.S. knew what to expect. Even the normally minimalist French swapped their black dresses for pink frills and lyric-inspired outfits. (Respect to the Best Dressed Dads: One guy in a âDad Reputationâ T-shirt, another in one that said âLook What My Daughter Made Me Doâ.)
As soon as Tortured Poets -style graphics came on the screens, the applause was deafening, and it stayed that way as Swift played âBut Daddy I Love Him,â âSo High School,â âWhoâs Afraid of Little Old Me?â âDown Bad,â âFortnight,â âThe Smallest Man Who Ever Livedâ and âI Can Do It With a Broken Heart.â The screaming only got louder for âParis.â
Based on the first night, it seems that the European shows on the Eras Tour will not be a break with the rest of the tour so much as an evolution â as Swift releases more music, the show needs to grow as she does. Here are some new, and a few familiar, highlights.
Paramoreâs Talking Heads CoverÂ
Swift isnât only a hard act to follow, sheâs hard to open for, and Paramore will play before her all summer in some of the biggest venues in Europe. So frontwoman Haley Williams laid out the bandâs mission: Getting the crowd âripe and ready for Miss Taylor Swift.â They did just that, kicking their set into high gear with the second song, a sharp-edged cover of the Talking Headsâ âBurning Down the House.â The song is half funk, half a herky-jerky deconstruction of it, and Paramore leaned into that contradiction, as Williams, an energetic performer, did her best high-octane, high-awkwardness dance. âThereâs no such thing as bad dancing at a Paramore show,â she told the crowd after that.â But since Swiftâs performance is polished to a high sheen, Paramoreâs manic, messy energy made a nice contrast.Â
Taylor Speaks French!Â
The idea that American and British performers touring Europe will attempt a few sentences in the local language has lasted long past the time when local audiences didnât speak great English. No one cares anymore. Except when it comes to Swift, who only had to speak one word, enchantĂ© â literally âenchantedâ but colloquially âgood to meet youâ â to get Parisians, who are normally too cool to go nuts, to go nuts. She continued in what sounded like a decent accent â something was trĂšs bien and something else was câest magnifique â and the crowd just kept going crazy.
Some of the fans there were French and hadnât had much of a chance to see Swift before this, but some came from other countries in Europe and others from the U.S. or Canada. It was a smart way to build energy, too. After Swiftâs countdown clock hit zero, she opened with âMiss Americana & the Heartbreak Princeâ and âCruel Summer,â then gave herself a minute to stand still without letting the crowdâs energy fall. Then she went onward to âThe Manâ and âYou Need to Calm Down,â which no one did. Â
The Staging of âLook What You Made Me DoâÂ
The energy of the concert never flagged, but certain songs made the audience erupt with enthusiasm. The most artfully staged was âLook What You Made Me Do,â which had the backup dancers in what looked like plastic display cases that they broke out of. The constant movement was muted, restrained â then freed and unleashed as the song’s beat seemed the make the arena shake. Sure, as the song says, the old Taylor canât come to the phone right now; why? Because sheâs dead! But the staging was all about escape, rebirth, reinvention. Itâs the Eras Tour, after all.Â
Cabin Fever Up on the RoofÂ
Since Lover served as the showâs opening era, after the Reputation performances ended with âLook What You Made Me Doâ â and rapturous applause â one of the newer Taylors (circa Folklore and Evermore ) came back onstage, atop a see-through wood cabin. Lounging on the roof, as the audience’s wristbands glowed an autumnal yellow, Swift performed âCardigan.â Itâs hard to make an arena mellow, but the cabin established a setting and the mood-lighting drove the point home: This was about atmosphere. Itâs a gorgeous, ethereal song, quite a contrast from âLook What You Made Me Do,â but thatâs the point of having eras in the first place.Â
Swift Shook It OffÂ
The section of the show devoted to Folklore and Evermore had its own kind of energy â rapturous and almost roomy, rather than fast and furious. Swift explored it with eight songs â âCardigan,â âBetty,â an especially affecting âChampagne Problems,â âAugust,â a shortened âIllicit Affairs,â âMy Tears Ricochet,â âMarjorie,â and âWillow.â It was like a walk in the woods, followed by a crash back into the city when the 1989 segment started with âStyle,â after which Swift went into âBlank Space,â and then a triumphant âShake It Off,â a short âWildest Dreamsâ and a âBad Bloodâ that brought down the house. The last three songs came off like a victory lap, as though Swift was justifiably proud of her quieter music but wanted to show that she still owned the shake-the-stadium anthems of her first pure pop album. The stage was set forâŠsomething. Â
Poets in Paris
Before the show, one could hear anticipation (in several languages) about whether Swift would add a new era for her new album. The consensus seemed to be⊠probablement , and it ended with a new video that had the visual vocabulary of The Tortured Poets Department â moody, with muted tones and images of paper and, at one point, a typewriter. The applause went from loud to explosive â most people there knew enough about the normal setlist to realize this was a departure from that, and that they would be the first ones to see it. In a white dress, Swift leaned into this, and a version of âBut Daddy I Love Himâ that went directly into âSo High Schoolâ made everyone realize they were seeing something truly special. Swift, who always seems happy to be wherever sheâs performing, seemed especially excited, too. It is, literally, a new era. Â
 Whoâs Afraid Indeed?Â
Swift played a generous helping of new songs â âBut Daddyâ and âSo High School,â and then âWhoâs Afraid of Little Old Me?â âDown Bad,â âFortnight,â âThe Smallest Man Who Ever Livedâ and âI Can Do It With a Broken Heartâ â all with the kind of precision that the entire show is known for. But the live standout was âWhoâs Afraid of Little Old Me?â which has the scorned fury of some of her earlier songs, and a backing video that lit up her eyes underscored the anger in it. If this tour is Female Rage: The Musical , as Swift says, âWhoâs Afraidâ emerged as one of the frighteningly good numbers. Â
Paris, Part Deux: UnpluggedÂ
After the Tortured Poets era, Swift took out an acoustic guitar and, even without doing anything, raised a certain amount of suspense about what songs sheâd play on it. âThereâs a song that I have been wanting to play in the acoustic set in the Eras Tour ever since I wrote it,â Swift said, âbut I was only going to play it for the very first timeâ â suspense! â âin one specific city.â The crowd went wild: She meant âParis,â in Paris! It was perfectly suited for the unplugged treatment, and it went over great â especially in a crowd with so many people who had traveled so far to be there. Then she played âlomlâ on the piano, which was less obvious but even more beautiful.Â

Canadian Taylor Swift fans are flying to Europe for cheaper concert tickets
Resale seats to shows in sweden spotted for less than $100.
Social Sharing
Taking a trip to Europe to see Taylor Swift perform may not seem like an intuitive financial decision â but tickets to a concert in Canada are so expensive some fans are finding that's a better deal.
Bryan Kingston couldn't believe it when he snagged floor seats to an upcoming show in London, U.K., for $500 each on a resale website, when he had paid twice as much in Detroit last year.
"I found it was much cheaper," said the 40-year-old, who works in advertising in Hamilton, Ont.
"The difference in price actually paid for my flight to Europe."
He's still spending a sizeable sum. But for Kingston and other Swifties who can afford it, even with the cost of a flight, hotel and ticket, travelling for the concert may end up being better bang for their buck than seeing it in Canada.
He has friends heading to Scotland, Portugal and France, and said he couldn't pass up the opportunity to combine the concert with a vacation.
"It is honestly the best show I've ever been to in my life; otherwise, I wouldn't be making the trip."
Pop star supply and demand
Retail tickets for shows on Swift's record-setting Eras Tour in North America and Europe sold out almost instantly. Many then popped up on resale sites just as quickly. On StubHub, the cheapest seat to a Toronto concert in November right now is listed at $2,822. Yet the cost to get in the door in Stockholm this weekend is just a fraction of that price â $83.
- No concert ticket? No problem. Swifties can still gather at 'Taylgate' in Toronto
Pascal Courty, an economics professor at the University of Victoria, suggests much of the disparity can be explained by basic economics. The European leg of Swift's tour boasts 51 shows across 18 cities, accommodating crowds of more than 40,000 each night.
"But the demand in some of these countries is not as strong," he said. "In Europe, compared to other artists, maybe she's not No. 1."Â
Taylor Swift fans rush to snap up Toronto tickets
Courty says in Canada, the huge fan base compared to the limited number of shows  â at just nine â contributes to the steeper ticket prices on the secondary market.
"If Swift would give a concert every night in Toronto, at some point, the price of the tickets would be very low. It might take 12 concerts, it might take 18 concerts, but there's a point where the demand is going to be exhausted."
Resale restrictions
While fans in Europe may still face markups when buying resale tickets, governments there have been taking steps to address ticketing issues. In some countries , including Ireland, Portugal and Denmark, tickets cannot be resold for more than their original price. France has some of the strongest rules , where offenders can be fined thousands of euros.
Sam Shemtob, managing director of the Face-value European Alliance for Ticketing (FEAT), says this shift has made a difference.
"It's had a really positive effect. You see far fewer listings of tickets being resold for a profit, because the law is quite straightforward."
That's not the case in Canada, where there are no national regulations limiting how much profit a consumer can make when reselling a ticket. In this year's budget, the federal government pledged to crack down on ticket reseller practices that it said unfairly drive up prices, but offered few other details or timelines.
In Quebec, companies need permission to resell tickets above face value. Individuals, however, can still resell a ticket at any price they choose.
Fans like Julia Rawleigh from Calgary, who missed out on the initial sale, have been disappointed by what they call outrageous resale ticket prices.
Economic boost follows Taylor Swift's Eras Tour
"It was really frustrating when the concert tickets first dropped, and then immediately, you know, there were people selling them for thousands of dollars marked up," she said.
The 27-year-old restaurant manager decided to shake it off, instead making plans to see Taylor Swift's show in France.
"When we were able to get the Lyon tickets for $250 Canadian dollars, we were super excited. I don't even think we looked at where the seats were."
- Taylor Swift expected to bring 'significant' economic boon to Vancouver
A better way?
Laws that regulate the secondary market are difficult to enforce, according to Courty, who suggested people will always find a way to sell tickets at market value.
- Concert ticket system is 'broken,' say artists. But some experts say targeting resellers isn't the fix
U.S. singer-songwriter Billie Eilish is trying to combat the issue during her upcoming tour by making tickets non-transferable, an option offered by Ticketmaster that all artists can choose to implement during their tours.
If fans who purchase tickets in Canada or the U.S. can't attend the show, they are only permitted to resell them on Ticketmaster at the original price paid. Details for the concert state that "the tour wants to give fans, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value."
Ticketmaster, the dominant player in the live event industry, has also come under scrutiny during Swift's tour, after fumbling online pre-sales in the U.S. The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating  its parent company, Live Nation, over claims it is abusing its market power â though Ticketmaster denies it is responsible for high ticket prices.
Courty says the most effective solution is to make tickets nominative, where purchasers have their name linked directly to a ticket and then must provide matching identification, similar to the system for airline tickets.
"Then you can completely prevent ticket reselling for profits."

Taylor Swift enjoys romantic date night with Travis Kelce in a very surprising place
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour may be heading to Sweden next but the pop star made a detour to Lake Como, Italy this week, to enjoy a romantic getaway with Travis Kelce.
The Kansas City Chiefs player flew into Europe on Saturday May 11 for her final night at the Paris La DĂ©fense Arena in the city of love, and it appears the pair have jetted off to Italy for an intimate getaway before she hits the stage again.
Pictures published by various media outlets show the two enjoying an outdoor dinner, with candles scattered around the grounds, and glasses of white wine on the table. Taylor wore a navy blue dress with puff sleeves and a square neckline, while Travis kept it casual in a white sweater and black pants.
As the sun set, Taylor added a heavy black overcoat as they wandered through the streets along the water.
Their trip comes as Taylor's former love Joe Alwyn arrived in France for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where his movie with Emma Stone and Margaret Qualley, two good friends of Taylor's, will premiere.
Taylor launched the European leg of the Eras Tour in Paris, and it will next arrive in Stockholm, Sweden as well as making stops across the UK, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, Germany and Austria.
The opening night in Paris saw Taylor unveil a brand new stage show, with the previous nine eras all rearranged to allow for the 11th, new, era to take pride of place. Lover and Fearless continued to be the first two eras of the show, but Red replaced Evermore as the third era on the setlist. The sixth era became Folk-more, a combination of Folklore and Evermore .
"Folklore represents spring and summer, and Evermore represents fall and winter, and so on the Eras Tour we have reunited the sisters and combined them into one chapter," she told fans.
1989 followed and then she segued into The Tortured Poets Department.
The set began with 'But Daddy I Love Him,' and she then sang part of 'So High School,' before a punishing performance of 'Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?' and into 'Down Bad,' complete with alien spaceships. A performance of 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,' saw her dancers turn into a marching band, before 'I Can Do It With A Broken Heart' became a jazzy 1920s number that began with her being undressed from the TTPD dress into a black sequin top and shorts.
Inspired by the era's silent films, it was a theatrical over the top moment with the dancers putting Taylor's shoes on her feet for her, and pushing her forward despite her protestations, a metaphor that spoke to the heartache she was going through every night in 2023 while performing on tour.

American fans of Taylor Swift have been taking advantage of cheaper ticket prices for the European leg of her record-breaking Eras tour.
The Times of London reports that, in the 40,000-capacity Defense Arena in Paris where Swift recently performed, up to 9,000 of the seats were filled by American fans, for whom the overseas trip was a bargain compared with ticket prices back home, even when the cost of transport and local accommodation was factored in.

John Krasinski pays tribute to his mom in 'IF' with a 'perfect' Tina Turner dance number
Spoiler alert! We're discussing minor details about the plot of John Krasinski's PG-rated family film "IF" (in theaters now).
âIFâ is indisputably the starriest movie of the year, with vocal cameos from Matt Damon , George Clooney , Jon Stewart and nearly two dozen other celebrities.
But the person who shines brightest is Tina Turner , whose music is featured prominently throughout the kid-friendly adventure. When we first meet Bea as a young girl (Audrey Hoffman), sheâs dressed up as Turner and putting on a living room concert for her adoring mom (Catharine Daddario) and dad (John Krasinski).
Years later, after her momâs death from cancer, 12-year-old Bea (Cailey Fleming) has lost all sense of joy and wonder. That changes when she meets a group of misfit imaginary friends (known as IFs), who are exiled to a âretirement homeâ under New Yorkâs Coney Island when their kids grow up and forget about them. Bea offers to help and lift their spirits, culminating in a euphoric dance number set to Turnerâs âBetter Be Good to Me.â
John Krasinski wanted Tina Turner's 'Better Be Good to Me' to be an 'anthem' for the 'IF' movie
The soaring anthem, which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, is taken from Turner's 1984 comeback album âPrivate Dancer.â Krasinski, who also wrote and directed âIF,â wanted to use the song as a tribute to his mom, Mary, who is a major Turner fan.

âI remember vividly dancing in the kitchen with my mom to Tina Turner,â Krasinski recalls. âThereâs something so emotional to me about sharing music intergenerationally. Thatâs something that was really special to me and that I really wanted to be in the movie. I love the idea that it's not a song you would think this girl would love, but she loves it because of the people she loves.â
Turner died last May at age 83 after a long illness . To get the rights to use her song, Krasinski wrote directly to the eight-time Grammy winnerâs estate, sending them the scripted scene and offering to get on Zoom to pitch the number.
âThe first thing I did was write an email saying that this is the heart and soul of the movie,â Krasinski says. âTinaâs song is basically the anthem for imaginary friends. (The IFs) are the ones saying, âBetter be good to me and donât forget me.â Her song was the absolute perfect one for our movie, and they got it. They were so understanding and so supportive, I canât thank them enough.â
Taylor Swift fans should look out for this Eras Tour Easter egg with Ryan Reynolds
In the dance number, Bea and the imaginary friends re-create the âBetter Be Good to Meâ music video. The scene was shot over two days with Fleming, 17, and a bunch of dancers wearing motion capture suits. Ari Groover, who played Turner in Broadway's "Tina" musical, also makes a brief appearance as the rock legend.
âI had so much fun,â says Fleming, who knew of Turner before the movie but didnât know her catalog.
The actress' enthusiasm for Taylor Swift also found its way into "IF." Toward the end of the film, Bea is walking up the street with her new friend Cal (Ryan Reynolds). Moviegoers can only hear the tail end of their conversation, in which they excitedly discuss wearing bracelets all over their arms.
That is, of course, a reference to the pop starâs blockbuster Eras Tour , where fans frequently trade Swift-themed friendship bracelets . Reynolds has attended the tour multiple times with his wife, Blake Lively , who is also Swift's close friend.
âJohn told us when we were shooting that scene that there was no dialogue and the audience couldnât hear us, so it didnât matter what we said,â recalls Fleming, who has tickets to attend the Eras Tour for a second time this fall. âSo I started talking about Taylor Swift, because thatâs my default topic, and it wound up making it into the movie. I love her.â
