The band, who released new albums ‘Imploding The Mirage’  and ‘Pressure Machine’ within a year of each other in 2021 and 2020 respectively, played a UK stadium tour this summer before a US arena run with Johnny Marr .

In late summer 2023, they will return for a short run of dates beginning with headline sets at Reading & Leeds on the weekend of August 25-27. The festivals’ line-up was announced this morning, with the band joined as headliners by Lewis Capaldi ,  Foals ,  Billie Eilish , Sam Fender  and  Imagine Dragons .

After those shows, the band will then play two headline gigs, at Edinburgh’s Royal Highland Centre Showgrounds on August 29 and Belfast’s Boucher Road Playing Fields on September 1.

On September 3, the short run of gigs will then conclude with a headline set at Ireland’s Electric Picnic festival.

Tickets for the gigs go on sale at 9am GMT on Monday, December 12. You can buy your tickets here .

Brandon Flowers revealed to  NME this summer that the band have been working on their next album, with the record set to be released in early 2023.

“We just had a few days off and Stuart [Price, producer] came and visited us on the road,” he told  NME . “We’re sending things back and forth, and ideas. I’m talking with Shawn Everett [producer] too, and it’s nice to have that combo.”

He added: “You will hear singles this year. The full record will probably be early next year, but there will definitely be more releases this year.”

In August, they then shared a new single called ‘Boy’ , which, according to Flowers, was originally written with the intention of appearing on ‘Pressure Machine’.

“It was the song that took me back home and was sort of the impetus for writing ‘Pressure Machine’,” Flowers told  NME . “What’s interesting is that it just didn’t make it onto the record – but its absence is not a reflection of the quality of the song. It was an aesthetic decision to keep it off the record.”

He added: “There’s an optimism to it. It’s in the dust, it’s in the gutter, and it’s looking at the stars. It’s writing in more of a new wave vehicle.”

CONCERT REVIEW : THE KILLERS – ROYAL HIGHLAND CENTRE EDINBURGH 29TH AUGUST 2023

the killers tour 2023 uk edinburgh

The Killers took to the stage at Edinburgh’s Royal Highland Centre amidst rumours that their days are numbered in, unbelievably, their debut performance in the capital.

Frontman Brandon Flowers cut an energetic, charismatic figure in pink and the tone was set from the get go as the band ripped into their signature song, “Mr Brightside”, usually saved for the encore; you could taste the frenzy.

If this WAS their last Scottish stint, they were going out with a bang; the hits came thick and fast, reminding us why they are the band they are today. “Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine”, “Spaceman”, “Human”, “Read My Mind”, “Shot At The Night” and “Smile Like You Mean It” shaped the set, with a splattering of efforts from their latter albums, “Run For Cover”, “Dying Breed”, “Caution” and “Runaway Horses”, the only inclusion from their latest release, 2021’s “Pressure Machine”, their seventh studio album in 17 years.

Fan favourite, “Somebody Told Me” was described by Flowers as “a tribute to our town”, before their take on The Waterboys, “The Whole Of The Moon” which was, “a tribute to yours” – a cover version that is screaming out to be recorded. A visibly emotional Flowers struggled to hold back the tears, overwhelmed; he was not alone, the poignancy was palpable among his people. “Bling (Confession Of A King)” was a surprise admission, and the absence of “For Reasons Unknown” was a glaring omission, but no surprise given the recent controversy in Georgia.

Watching The Killers play live is a euphoric experience, almost religious, with “All These Things That I’ve Done” being their “take them to church moment”. It has the same impact now as it did on its release almost two decades ago, and “I got soul, but I’m not a soldier” may be somewhat nonsensical, but the unity it brings to a crowd is impossible to deny.

The encore brought “The Man” and showcased Flowers at his very best; flamboyant, electric and tantalising. Special guest support and guitar hero, Johnny “Fucking” Marr joined The Killers onstage for a rousing version of “This Charming Man”, made famous by his former band, The Smiths before Springsteen inspired anthem, When You Were Young” brought things to a close … for how long, who knows?

The sentiment of The Killers sophomore album, “Sam’s Town” was not out of place for their Edinburgh slot, it WAS good to have them with us, even if it was just for the day.

Hopefully, there are still many more days to come.

The Killers have confirmed a short run of UK and Ireland tour dates to complement their headline slots at Reading & Leeds 2023 .

After topping the bill at the twin festivals next August, the Las Vegas-conceived band will head to Scotland, where there will hold their first-ever show in Edinburgh. The group will headline the Royal Highland Centre Showgrounds on August 29.

In September, The Killers will continue the brief tour at Belfast’s Boucher Road Playing Fields before heading to Stradbally to headline the 2023 edition of Electric Picnic.

Tickets for the Edinburgh and Belfast shows will both go on sale at 9am GMT on Monday (December 12). Edinburgh tickets will be available to purchase here , while Belfast tickets will go on sale here .

The short tour follows the band’s massive, sold-out stadium tour this summer , which saw The Killers play to 400,000 fans at shows, including two euphoric nights at London’s Emirates Stadium.

The new dates are the latest to be added to what looks set to be a busy schedule for The Killers next summer. Previously, the band were confirmed to be performing at Atlanta, GA’s Shaky Knees festival alongside Muse and The Lumineers.

Meanwhile, the group’s latest album, Pressure Machine , was released in 2021 and was followed up by the standalone single “boy” in August. Written before the songs that made up Pressure Machine , the themes explored in “boy” helped lead frontman and principal songwriter Brandon Flowers to the subjects that would eventually be the focus of that record.

“This was the first song written after we had to cancel the  Imploding The Mirage  tour due to the pandemic,” Flowers explained in a press release at the time. “I had recently moved back to Utah and started to make trips to Nephi, where I grew up. I found that the place I had wanted to get away from so desperately at 16 was now a place that I couldn’t stop returning to.

“I have a son approaching the age I was at that time in my life. With ‘boy’, I want to reach out and tell myself – and my sons – to not overthink it. And to look for the ‘white arrows’ in their lives. For me now, white arrows are my wife, children, my songs and the stage.”

Edinburgh is in for a treat as The Killers will be playing a special one-night only show at the Royal Highland Centre Showgrounds on August 29, 2023. The American rock band, fronted by Brandon Flowers, will be supported by indie legend Johnny Marr. While The Killers have never played in Edinburgh before, they sold out a double-header in Falkirk last summer.

Pre-sale tickets for the show have already gone live, but the general sale will start at 9am on Monday, December 12. Tickets can be purchased on the Ticketmaster website or via Gigs in Scotland. Prices start at £84.40.

The Killers, who formed in 2001, have become one of the biggest rock bands of the century, selling over 28 million records worldwide and performing in over 50 countries. Fans can expect to hear classic hits like Mr Brightside, Somebody Told Me, and All These Things That I’ve Done, as well as more recent songs like The Man, Caution, Run For Cover, and My Own Soul’s Warning. Support act Johnny Marr, who rose to fame as the guitarist and co-songwriter of The Smiths, is expected to play music from his solo albums.

American rock band The Killers have released seven studio albums, one live album, three compilation albums, one extended play, 38 singles, four promotional singles, and 39 music videos. As part of the post-punk revival movement, The Killers are influenced by 1980s and 1990s music styles. The band has sold over 28 million records worldwide. Their debut album, Hot Fuss (2004), brought the band mainstream success and has since been certified triple platinum by the RIAA and seven-times platinum by the BPI. The album spawned four UK top-20 singles, including “Mr. Brightside”.

The Killers’ second studio album, Sam’s Town, was released in October 2006 and met with mixed reviews. Despite this, the album proved a commercial success, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200 and going on to be certified platinum by the RIAA. In the UK, the album debuted at the top of the chart and was certified five-times platinum by the BPI. The compilation album Sawdust was released in November 2007 and contained B-sides, rarities, and new material.

The band’s third album, Day & Age, produced by Stuart Price, was released in November 2008 and spawned the commercially successful single “Human”. Day & Age was a commercial success in Europe and was certified Gold by the RIAA. Their fourth album, Battle Born, was released in September 2012, becoming the band’s fourth consecutive album to reach number one in both the UK and Ireland.

In November 2013, the band released their first greatest hits album, titled Direct Hits, in celebration of their first decade together. The compilation features two new tracks, including “Shot at the Night”, produced by Anthony Gonzalez of M83. In September 2017, the Killers released their fifth studio album, Wonderful Wonderful, becoming their first number-one album on the US Billboard 200. In August 2020, the band released their sixth studio album, Imploding the Mirage, which was their highest rated by critics. In August 2021, the band released their seventh studio album, Pressure Machine, and have begun work on recording an eighth.

About The Killers

The Killers are a Las Vegas-based four-piece who formed in 2003, featuring the talents of singer/keyboardist Brandon Flowers, drummer Ronnie Vannucci, guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer. The band has received countless accolades for their artistic achievement, including multiple Grammy nominations, American Music Award nominations, MTV Video Music Awards, NME Awards and more. Their first album, Hot Fuss, was released in 2004 to worldwide acclaim. The album contained the singles “Mr. Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me,” in addition to the anthemic song “All These Things That I’ve Done,” which has since been referenced by the likes of U2. The band toured for two years straight behind Hot Fuss, playing more than four-hundred shows, and eventually returned to Vegas to begin to work on the follow-up album with legendary producers Alan Moulder and Flood. The result, a love letter of sorts to their hometown entitled Sam’s Town, was released in 2006 and spent forty-two weeks on the Billboard Top 200. A b-sides collection entitled Sawdust was released in 2007, followed by their third studio album, Day & Age, which was released to widespread critical praise in 2008, anchored by massive single “Human.” The Killers released Battle Born in September 2012, which saw them expanding their world tour into countries they’ve never visited before, and finally were honored to perform at the world-renowned Wembley Stadium, one of the most monumental and significant shows of their career. After a decade of making music, in November 2013, The Killers released a “Best Of” collection, Direct Hits, which featured two incredible new songs alongside classics from the band’s revered catalogue. The band, who have sold over twenty-five million albums worldwide, and headlined all of the world’s top festivals (Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury), released their chart-topping album, Wonderful Wonderful, in September 2017. It garnered the band their first No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart the week of its release in the U.S., as well as topping the charts in the U.K., Mexico, and Australia. In 2020, The Killers released Imploding The Mirage in 2020; hailed by critics as one of the best records in the band’s already stellar catalog, the album was the band’s sixth consecutive number one in the U.K., and Brandon Flowers’ eighth U.K. number one overall, making the band the first international act to receive six consecutive #1’s in the United Kingdom. Imploding The Mirage also went Top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, making it their sixth Top Ten album in America. In 2021, The Killers released their eight album, Pressure Machine, a quieter, character-driven document of life in small town America inspired by frontman Brandon Flowers’ upbringing in rural Utah. In 2022, they embarked on their largest, sold out tour to date, playing stadiums in North America and beyond.

The Killers scrap new album plans as they continue 2023 tour

the killers tour 2023 uk edinburgh

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has revealed he has scrapped the band’s new album, as they prepare to play their final shows on an European tour.

Having been booed at a concert in Georgia after inviting a Russian fan to play drums for one song, the US rock band were back on form at last weekend’s Reading and Leeds festival.

Flowers and co. played a greatest-hits-heavy set that included new song Your Side of Town, but the long-planned subsequent parent album will now not be released.

“Halfway through recording I realised, ‘I can’t do this,’” Flowers told The Times.

“This isn’t the kind of record… I think this will be the… I don’t think you’ll see us making this type of music anymore.”

When are The Killers playing in Ireland and Northern Ireland?

The Killers are set to wrap up their summer tour of Europe with a show at Boucher Road Playing Fields in Belfast, Northern Ireland on September 1 and then at Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Ireland on September 3.

This will precede a tour of the US into the autumn and winter. It follows The Killers releasing studio albums Imploding The Mirage in 2020 and Pressure Machine in 2021.

Are The Killers still making music?

The Killers released the standalone single Boy last year and then synth-heavy new song Your Side of Town only a few days ago. But this song too is set to be a standalone, with Flowers telling The Times that he had lost heart someway into a larger project.

“This is the crisis I’m in. The Killers are my identity and our songs fill the seats, but I’m more fulfilled making music like Pressure Machine,” he said of the album - which was a more introspective release than the stadium rock fans might expect.

“I found a side of myself writing it that was strong. This was the guy I’d been looking for! I’m as proud of [debut album] Hot Fuss as you can be for something you did when you were 20, but I’m not 20. So I’m thinking about the next phase of my life.

“I’m a different person now, it’ll be difficult to go back.”

What happened to The Killers in Georgia?

Frontman Brandon Flowers described fans as “brothers and sisters” at the gig on August 15 as he invited a Russian fan to perform a song with the band to an audience in Georgia.

“We don’t know the etiquette of this land but this guy is a Russian, you okay with a Russian coming up here?” he said. The crowd chanted that “no,” they were not okay.

This led to Flowers saying: “So I’m not your brother? Am I not your brother, being from America, am I not your brother?”

“One of the things we have come to appreciate about being in this band is that it brings people together.

“Tonight I want us to celebrate together and I don’t want it to turn ugly.

“I see you as my brothers and my sisters.”

After the awkward clip went viral, The Killers apologised with a statement on their social media.

“It was never our intention to offend anyone!” the band said, adding that it had a longstanding tradition of inviting people to play the drums.

“We recognise that a comment, meant to suggest that all of the Killers’ audience and fans are ‘brothers and sisters,’ could be misconstrued,” it added.

What songs are The Killers playing on tour?

The Killers changed convention by opening their show at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh on Tuesday, August 29 with their cornerstone song Mr Brightside. They also invited Johnny Marr on stage to perform The Smiths’ song This Charming Man - as they had done together to headline Glastonbury in 2019. Marr stayed on as the band closed with When You Were Young.

This was the full setlist but this does not represent the tour as a whole.

  • Jenny Was a Friend of Mine
  • Smile Like You Mean It
  • Shot at the Night
  • Run for Cover
