Depending on the itinerary and duration of the Moscow River boat trip, the tour can be 3 or 5 hours.

Highlights of the tour

  • St Basil’s Cathedral;
  • Stalin skyscraper on Kotelnicheskaya (Tinkers) embankment;
  • The Kremlin;
  • “House on the Embankment” Stalin skyscraper;
  • Monument to Peter I;
  • The Central House of Artists;
  • Christ the Savior Cathedral;
  • Gorky Park;
  • Moscow State University;
  • Russian Academy of Sciences;
  • Luzhniki stadium;
  • Novodevichy Monastery;
  • Kiev railway station;
  • Europe Square;
  • Moscow City Hall;
  • Government House;
  • Expocentre Exhibition Complex;
  • and other famous sights.

You will learn about the different epochs of the city from the foundation in 1147 till Soviet times of 20 th  century.

Moscow River

Moskva river has the form of a snake and is the main waterway of Moscow, consisting of a cascade of reservoirs. Within the city, Moskva river is 80 km long, 120 m - 200 m wide and up to 14 m deep. The narrowest part of the river is the Kremlin area in the city center, and the most extensive is around the Luzhniki Stadium in the south.

Bridges in Moscow

Undoubtedly, bridges and embankments are among the most scenic spots and main attractions of Moscow. Plus, they are so romantic.

  • Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge –  Great Stone Bridge –  is the main bridge of Moscow . The first stone bridge was constructed here in the 17th century.
  • Patriarshy Bridge  is one of the youngest pedestrian bridges, built in 2004. The bridge connects the iconic Christ the Saviour Cathedral with funky Bersenevskaya embankment, extremely popular place among locals for its trendy art galleries, cafes and panoramic views. Patriarshy Bridge used to be a shooting location for ex-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's New Year speech to the nation.
  • Borodinsky Bridge,  erected in honor of the 100th anniversary of the glorious victory in the Battle of Borodino (which every Russian kid knows about), a fierce legendary battle during the Russo-French war of 1812.
  • Bagration Bridge  one of the  pedestrian bridges with most picturesque views of the Moskva River with its numerous upper-level observation platforms. The bridge was erected to celebrate the 850th anniversary of Moscow city in 1997.
  • Krymsky Bridge  used to be in Top 5 Europe’s longest bridges some 100 years ago. The bridge got its name after the ancient Krymsky ford which Crimean Tartars used to invade Moscow in the 16 th  century.

Embankments of Moscow

Moscow river boats 37 embankments, the most popular being Kremlevskaya, Sofiyskaya, Pushkinskaya, Vorobyovskaya and Kolomenskaya.

You can get the most spectacular views of the Kremlin from  Kremlevskaya and Sofiyskaya embankments.

  • Pushkinkaya embankment  is the most romantic in Moscow. It meanders along Gorky Park and Neskuchnyi garden and is rich for all kinds of entertainment as well as cozy nooks, including Olivkovy beach, the famous Zeleny theater as well as a pier for river cruisers.
  • Vorobyevskaya embankment  is part of Sparrow Hills nature reserve. This place opens a beautiful panorama of the river and city from the observation deck and is considered to be the place for taking serious decisions in life.
  • Embankment in Kolomenskoye  Museum-Reserve has a special charm due to its peculiar geographical relief. The boat trip around Kolomenskoye would be the most peaceful in your life.
  • Taras Shevchenko embankment  is popular among photographers for its modern Moscow City skyscrapers. Highly recommended for your night boat trip.
  • Embankments of Moscow are the pride of the capital. A distinctive feature of each of the promenades is its architecture and beautiful views. In addition, almost all the embankments of Moscow have a rich history and a lot of notable buildings.

Different epochs

Taking a walk along the Moskva River by boat, you will witness the architecture of Moscow from different eras and styles. Archaeological studies indicate that already in the XI century there stood a fortified settlement on Borovitsky hill, which is now called the Kremlin. Little fortress could not accommodate all the residents of the rapidly growing city, and the Grand Duke ordered the construction of a new Kremlin, larger than the former.

Boat trip around Kolomenskoe Park

Moscow river boat trip starts from the pier Klenovy (Maple) Boulevard and provides reat views of Nicholas Perervinsky monastery.

Nicholas Perervinsky monastery was founded at the time of the Battle of Kulikov (1380). The monastery, got its name from the surrounding area – “Pererva”, which can be translated like “tear off” and because of the location –  here it abruptly changed its course, turning to Kolomna, standing on the opposite bank.

Nowadays Kolomenskoye is State Art, Historical, Architectural and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve, which doors are open to everyone who wants to get in touch with the ancient history of Russia.

Take a break from the big city hustle in the shady parks and gardens of the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. Don’t miss a wonderful Church of the Ascension and Tsar Alexey’s Palace in Kolomenskoye!

Monasteries and temples

  • Novospassky Monastery
  • Founded in the 13th century on the site where now is located the Danilovsky monastery. After a few decades, in 1330, Ivan Kalita moved the monastery onto the Borovitskii hill of the Kremlin. However, in the 15th century, Spassky Monastery again moved, this time to a more spacious place on Krasnoholmskaya waterfront.
  • Church of St. Nicholas in Zayaitskom
  • Erected in the middle of the XVIII century in baroque style. The building survived after the 1812 fire, but the utensils were destoyed. Parishioners collected donations and restored the temple on their own. In Soviet times, it was closed and re-opened only in 1992.
  • Cathedral of Christ the Savior
  • The church was originally erected in honor of the victory over Napoleon and was being under construction for long 44 years. Notoriously demolished in 1937 to be a giant swimming pool under open sky. The current building was constructed in 1990s. It is the tallest and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.
  • The temple was built in 1679-82, during the reign of Tsar Fedor Alekseevich, in late Muscovite Baroque style and can be characterized as bonfire temple. Each gable is a symbol of a heavenly fire.
  • Novodevichy Convent
  • The most famous concent and monastery in Moscow, presumably founded in 1524. Novodevichy’s status has always been high among other monasteries, it was in this monastery where the women of the royal blood, the wives of Tsars and local rulers of Moscow were kept in prison as nuns.
  • St. Andrew’s church  (male acts as Compound Patriarch of Moscow)
  • St. Andrew’s church stands right on the slopes of the Sparrow Hills, on the way down to the Moskva River, on the territory of the Nature Reserve “Sparrow Hills”. The monastery is small in size but is very cozy. It’s situated in a quiet courtyard surrounded by temples, fruit trees and flowers.

Cruise vacations are a wonderful way to visit multiple destinations in one trip and unpack only once. And while cruises may not give people multiple days in each destination, it acts as a sampler for people to discover new places that they may possibly want to return to later.

Top Luxury Cruise Destinations

Knowing when to visit and what to explore can help people make the right decision for which to cruise take. The Caribbean and Mexico are the most common cruise destinations that people may think of, there are plenty of other bucket list destinations worth exploring. Here are some of the most popular among them and some of the latest news in the cruise industry .

1. Mediterranean

Villefranche-sur-mer on the French Riviera in summer

From Spain to Turkey and everywhere in between, these are highly popular sailings that can book up quickly. The best time to travel is during the summer months when the most ships are sailing in the Mediterranean, but prepare for hot weather. Many cruise lines move their ships to the Caribbean during the winter months.

The Spanish coastline, French Riviera, Amalfi Coast, Greek islands and Turkish ports are some of the highlight destinations on these routes. Among the busiest departure ports for these cruises are Athens, Rome (Civitavecchia) and Barcelona, and some travelers like to extend their cruise with a pre- or post-cruise stay in these cities. Taking a cruise here is a great way to visit many countries in one trip.

Your best look yet at the new iphone 16, the richest person in every state 2024.

Ilma will sail its inaugural season in the Mediterranean.

Among the new ships in the region for this year is Silversea’s Silver Ray, the second in the Nova class for the line. The new Sun Princess from Princess Cruises started sailing the Med this year. The second yacht in the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is Ilma, which will start sailing in the Mediterranean later this year. Also new for the season is the National Geographic Day Tours sailings from Holland America that give travelers the change to sail with a National Geographic trained guide and explore ports with an expert.

MSC World Europa is the first Liquified Natural Gas-fueled ship in the company's fleet. The company ... [+] has a goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions for its entire fleet.

MSC Euribia and MSC World Europa are two of the most popular ships to sail in the region. The European-based company is especially appealing for travelers because its ships board new passengers every day unlike other cruises that start and end on a particular date. This schedule flexibility means travelers can choose which ports where they want to embark. Its ships have numerous specialty restaurants, engaging theater shows and family-friendly pool areas.

Another cruise line, SeaDream, operates differently than other companies by arriving in busy ports in the afternoon when most other cruise passengers are reboarding their ships. SeaDream then stays until midnight, or sometimes overnight, to give travelers the chance to explore without “people pollution.”

2. Australia and New Zealand

The famous Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge

These cruises showcase some of the top destinations down under. The best time to take a cruise is between December and February, which is summer in the Southern Hemisphere. The weather can be quite warm, but it is an ideal time to see major cities like Sydney and Auckland, explore the Great Barrier Reef or the Kimberley region on the Australian west coast. For those that want to extend their trip, they can visit major tourist sights like Ayers Rock in the center of the country and wine country regions in both countries.

The Kimberley region in Australia is a new destination for Seabourn.

New for the season is Seabourn Pursuit, which will sail the Kimberley region, the first time Seabourn visits the region. To honor the new itinerary, the cruise line named the Western Kimberley traditional land owners, the Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation, as godparents of Seabourn Pursuit . Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony, part of the Abercrombie & Kent brand, will sail around both countries this spring.

Oceania Cruises is known for its overnight stays in cities in the South Pacific including Melbourne and Bali in Indonesia .

Snow melts slowly from the mountains as spring approaches at the end of May in south-central Alaska

Glacier Bay National Park and the Hubbard Glacier are top sights on an Alaska cruise sailing, which is best during the spring and summer months when the temperatures are not frigid. Sailings typically take place between April and October. Holland America is a leader in this part of the world, but many cruise lines send their ships here for the dramatic scenery. This is one of those ideal trips for a multi-generational trip.

Edge is one of the newest ships in the cruise line's fleet.

New for the season is Celebrity Edge, a dramatic ship with a cantilevered bar and restaurant known as the Magic Carpet and attached to the side of the ships and can be lowered closer to sea level for an up-close look at stunning glaciers. Among the top news for Alaska’s cruise ports is a new cruise terminal in the state capital, Juneau, and a new 28-day sailing from Holland America. Don’t miss the new seasonal drink “Killer Whale Pale Ale,” which Holland America is launching this year on its Alaska sailings.

4. Antarctica

Cruises sail through the Lemaire Channel

Cruises are the most common way to visit Antarctica, and there are all kinds of ships of varying sizes and price points. These are typically not cheap trips, but it is one of the most bucket list trips you can take. The cruise season in Antarctica is between November and February, which is summer in the Southern Hemisphere. Don’t be fooled though, it will still be cold.

These sailings give passengers the chance to set foot on this remote continent amid massive glaciers and snow-covered mountains. Bird spotting and thousands of penguins are just some of the animal life people will see. Many travelers like to take the Arctic plunge when they jump into the frigid water for a brief second.

Scenic Eclipse II has its own helicopter.

Atlas Ocean just christened two Polar ships that will sail from Patagonia to Antarctica. Seabourn Venture is an expedition ship that was christened in Antarctica and is a great way to enjoy nature without giving up luxury. Don’t miss Scenic Eclipse II, which is an elegant yacht that comes equipped with a helicopter for birds eye views and a submarine for fisheye photo opps.

5. Panama Canal

The Panama Canal has cruise and cargo ships passing through.

Going through the locks of the Panama Canal gives travelers an up-close experience of this architectural marvel. Between November and April, taking a cruise around Central America and passing through the canal is ideal since temperatures are not as hot and humid as the summer. Some cruise lines move their ships between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans when they change destinations for the season. A popular itinerary is Viking’s Classic Panama Canal Passage, which sails from Fort Lauderdale through the canal and visits Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Honduras and Panama.

A pair of Star Clippers ships

If you’ve done the Panama Canal cruise, consider a Suez Canal sailing, which explores the Greek Islands before crossing the canal to visit ports in Egypt. Guests can take an excursion to visit the Pyramids, which is a highlight of this itinerary. Star Clippers takes its majestic sailing ships with tall white masts on these trips. If you want a true sailing experience, Star Clippers is a great option.

An aerial view of the fishing boats in Zanzibar

Taking a cruise to ports along Africa’s coastline is a great way to visit multiple places without worrying about getting difficult visas for each country or finding a comfortable place to say. There are many different itineraries including around the southern tip to ports of South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique. Others visit remote islands like Madagascar, Mauritius, Zanzibar and the Seychelles.

Azamara Quest visits the west coast of Africa.

The best time to visit is in the spring and fall as this means temperatures are not as hot as summer and also when cruise lines make these itineraries as they move ships to different regions. One of the most exciting (and quick to sell out) sailings is along parts of the west coast of the continent visiting places like the Bissagos Island chain, Sao Tome and Principe, Benin, Senegal and Gambia. Many travelers like to tack on a safari before or after their sailing.

Azamara Quest and Norwegian Sky are two of the most popular cruise ships that make these sailings. Azamara is known for its itineraries that remain in ports until late in the evening or even overnight giving travelers more time in each destination. For the 2025-2026 cruise season, Oceania Cruises will add new overnight stays in Mauritius, too.

Holland America’s Nieuw Statendam

Spotting the Northern Lights or sailing through panoramic fjords is often best experienced by ship. Holland America’s Nieuw Statendam sails through the Nordic countries during the summer months, the best time to visit the region since temperatures are not as cold. The newly launched Queen Anne from Cunard, which takes its first sailing in May, will sail around the British Islands and make its way to Norway to explore the fjords.

Hurtigruten Expeditions, a Norwegian company, operates its own series of sailings all along the coastline. The cruise line got its start here operating ferry ships bringing mail, supplies and other goods to remote parts of the country. Many of them also carry passengers that want to experience a smaller ship that visits different towns while also sailing through the fjords.

A Viking cruise ship sailing through the Norwegian fjords.

Another Nordic brand famous for its river and cruise ships is Viking, which operates its luxury ships carrying just under 1,000 passengers on signature itineraries like “Viking Homeland.” Viking Vela is one of the ships to make this journey, and Viking sailings are all-inclusive with drinks, all meals at specialty restaurants and excursions making it a great way to visit this region.

8. The Galapagos Islands

Galapagos sea lions (Zalophus wollebaeki) are sunbathing in the last sunlight at the beach of ... [+] Espanola island, Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean. This species of sea lion is endemic at the Galapagos islands; In the background one of the typical tourist yachts is visible. Wildlife shot.

Sailing between these Ecuadorian islands is beautiful for the bird watching and animal spotting from the region’s famous tortoises, iguanas and penguins. Cruise ships in this region are limited in size by regulations to preserve the marine environment. Hurtigruten Santa Cruz II is one of the larger ships that operates several itineraries in the archipelago.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse First Drive Review: Zaddy Looks, Dad-Bod Strength, Sugar Daddy Amenities

The redesigned Traverse now gets Super Cruise, an off-road-ready Z71 trim, and a lot more standard features.

Beverly Braga

GM insists on calling the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse a midsize SUV. I don't agree. The vehicle has a legitimate third row, not just a penalty box for children (and the occasional adult). To me, this is a full-size. The rest of Chevy's claims are admittedly more accurate. For example, it says the '24 Traverse is brand-spanking new, and yes indeed it is. New trims, new 'do, new colors, more safety, more power, more screens, more space—yeah, it's got all of that. Best of all, the Traverse is now available with Super Cruise. Huzzah!

Superlatives aside, the all-new Traverse is genuinely packaged with even more goodies than before, many of which are standard. According to Chevy's talking heads, the RS model is now a "true RS" this time around and there's even a first-ever Z71 off-road-ready version. Uh-huh. More on that later.

The Basics

On design alone, the three-row SUV experienced a glow-up. A far cry from its initial van-like vibes, today's Traverse is all rugged edges and chiseled jawlines. By dropping the design heft, the third-generation Traverse is decidedly handsome. Its styling features strong character lines with sheet metal flexes in all the right places. Like a fine wine, I guess some things do get better with age.

Dimensionally, the new vehicle is smaller in size than the outgoing model by a fraction of inches here and there. Yet it wins on spaciousness, with more room for legs, shoulders, knees, and toes. Headroom has actually gone down by the thinnest of margins, but cabin comfort and new tech features more than make up for that.

Chevrolet Reviews photo

Standard seating remains an eight-passenger configuration with second-row captain's chairs available on all except the entry-level LS. I was only able to experience the seven-pax version but could easily maneuver my five-foot-two frame throughout the interior like it was a giant funhouse. And if I needed an additional hiding space, the rear cargo area features a large underfloor storage bin. Even with a couple of overstuffed backpacks and a tripod, there was still room to spare.

The center console and dashboard were also reimagined with spaciousness in mind. The gear shifter is now a steering wheel-mounted gear stalk, which allows for more storage nooks and crannies, including additional cupholders behind the center bin. The reorganized dash has a new 11-inch instrument screen that's paired with a standard (and best-in-class) 17.7-inch center touchscreen. Best in class or not, the latest infotainment screen is more than twice as large as the previous version, which now seems tiny at 8.0 inches. Both screens feature large, easy-to-read icons in pleasant colors. The UX doesn't require a user manual to learn, and the system is snappy to use.

<em>Beverly Braga</em>

Driving Experience

All Traverse trims feature the same engine. The outgoing 3.6-liter V6 is replaced with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This smaller engine is spunkier, producing 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque, a gain of 18 hp and 60 lb-ft over the V6.

Debuting GM's "ePhaser" technology that's said to smooth out stop-starts, fuel economy has improved as well. Front-wheel-drive models are now rated for 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 23 combined versus the previous generation's 18/27/21. All-wheel-drive Traverses return 19/24/21 compared to last year's 17/25/20. And this is all great… on paper.

<em>Beverly Braga</em>

I'll preface this by saying that every Traverse I tested was an early production model. The biggest letdown with the new engine is the sound. V6s traditionally offer a relatively guttural growl. Even if it's not powerful, it sounds like it is! But in a large vehicle with a cavernous engine bay such as the Traverse, the four-banger sounds distant. Off the line at low rpm, regardless of drive mode, its whine and whirr is more befitting of a small sedan, not a three-row crossover. Its aural aspirations are just that: wishful thinking. To be fair, yes, the 2024 Traverse has more power, but it's also nearly 200 pounds heavier than before. The RS AWD which weighed 4,602 pounds last year now weighs 4,792. Might as well put "+18 hp" on a sticker and call it even.

However, at speed, power delivery is smooth as is that all-new eight-speed automatic transmission. As long as you're not turning every stoplight into drag race practice, the new turbo does its job and, frankly, does it well while shifts between gears are barely perceptible. What is perceptible is how quiet the cabin is. Driving dynamics are composed, too, and the brakes have some bite on them. And you'll want that stopping confidence when cruising around in a two-ton SUV. With Super Cruise on, though, the new Traverse approaches road-tripping zen.

<em>Beverly Braga</em>

Super Cruise is the absolute highlight of this car. Activated with a simple steering wheel-mounted button, the system was flawless on the highway. On rural roads, it is still figuring things out. The biggest hiccups occurred during lane merges. In one instance, as the merging lane ended and black asphalt transitioned into prominent white hatch markings, the Traverse happily continued straight ahead over the white marks. I took control and righted the ship, of course. During another lane merge sans change in road markings, a notification specified that Super Cruise was deactivating because the lane was about to end.

Are the inconsistencies a genuine demerit? Not at all. I was driving through the back roads of Georgia and was surprised the system worked at all. And outside of merging, which one should pay attention to anyway, Super Cruise was a reliable co-pilot. There were no random spurts of acceleration or hesitant braking around corners. If I wanted that experience, I would've attempted to use Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist again (It parked the vehicle but with all of the confidence of a twitchy, nervous, newly-permitted driver).

Chevrolet Reviews photo

The highly-touted and new Z71 trim Traverse is off-road capable in the same way an AWD hatchback can traverse rough patches and sticky situations. Our unpaved circuit was a meandering stroll through the woods of a lakeside resort. Not at all an off-the-grid, extreme ascent but for those looking to access a campground or follow a dirt path to a trailhead, the Z71 has you covered.

Chevrolet Traverse Features, Options, and Competition

The Traverse LS starts at $38,995, which includes $1,395 in destination fees. The mid-level LT has an MSRP of $41,395, while the top-of-the-line RS climbs to $55,595. Opting for AWD adds another two grand, an upcharge that applies to all trims except the Z71. The Traverse Z71 is AWD-only and sits below the RS on the pricing sheet at $47,995. Compared to the previous gen, the new Traverse costs about $3,000 more. There's a good reason for the jump.

Chevrolet Reviews photo

Newly standard are the aforementioned larger digital cluster and infotainment screens as well as LED lights up front. Also standard is a robust safety package that includes Chevy Safety Assist and additional ADAS features including automatic emergency braking, a following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist, and front pedestrian braking. The 2024 Traverse adds another 14 safety systems on top of that, either previously offered in a package or all-new. These include rear cross-traffic alert, rear park assist, lane change alert, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera view, blind-zone steering assist, and side bicyclist alert.

The LT is anticipated to continue as the Traverse volume leader and, as such, includes roof side rails, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and second-row captain's chairs. The LT also gains access to Super Cruise, a panoramic sunroof, a Bose surround sound system, a Trailering Package, and 20-inch wheels. The RS essentially becomes the all-inclusive trim while the Z71 gets exclusive outdoorsy bits like Hill Descent, all-terrain tires, 1.2 inches of added ground clearance, a Terrain drive mode, skid plates, damper tuning, and a twin-clutch AWD system.

Chevrolet Reviews photo

According to Chevy, Traverse's direct competitors are the Ford Explorer, Hyundai Palisade , and Kia Telluride . The long-running Explorer is the only rear-wheel-drive model of the group but tacks on a $645 acquisition fee on top of a $1,595 destination charge to start at $39,100. The Explorer does best the others in fuel economy with an EPA-rated 20/27/23 mpg for AWD EcoBoost models. The value-packaged, features-laden South Korean duo were both recently refreshed for 2023. As the only completely redesigned vehicle of the bunch, the Traverse lands in the middle on price but offers more in terms of power, room, safety, and hands-free driving availability.

The Early Verdict

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse is handsome but not flashy. With zaddy looks, dad-bod performance but sugar daddy-level amenities and features? I consider that a win. Show up for the kids' soccer matches in an RS and you'll turn some heads. Make that a Z71 and rival dads will wonder if those red tow hooks are legit (They sure are!).

Chevy's new three-row is impressive in how it does the basic, daily driver stuff really well. As a family hauler, city dweller, and road trip vehicle, the Traverse is comfortable, quiet, roomy, and safe. Plus, it looks good! As an off-the-grid companion, based on that short countryside loop, it's underwhelming. However, given its targeted audience, the new Traverse hits its marks in stride.

Can They Make Me a Moscow Mule?

Cool Cruiser

Dumb question I know, but I've been wondering this for a while, and I don't think I've seen it answered. Obviously not offered in Vintages, the Martini Bar, or World-Class, but what about at the Sunset Bar or in Michael's?

Also, Pimm's Cup, same question.

I was able to get a Moscow Mule at the World Class Bar on Equinox in December.

Yay! Thanks so much.

Ensemble Lounge or Passport bar (I forget) also offered them on Equinox. They now offer Ginger Beer on the ship which you need for the "mule". :cool:

Vineyardfan

The Martini bar, Sunset bar, Passport bar and Ensemble lounge all normally carry both ginger ale and ginger beer, so you shouldn't have a problem (as long as the bartender is somewhat knowledgeable).

so you shouldn't have a problem (as long as the bartender is somewhat knowledgeable).
I don't know about the knowledgeable part...I asked for a Paralyzer in a few bars on my March 2017 B2B Constellation cruise and they had no idea until I finally found a "knowledgeable" bartender midway thru my second cruise. I also asked for a Pain Killer during my 30 days on the ship and no bartender knew how to make one or the desire to google it.

QE2_Fan

Lived on these on Solstice last October! The barman in Ensemble Lounge made the best one ever. I would often stop by to get one, or he also worked at the Sunset Bar so also got them there during the day. I know Mast Bar also made them but w're not as good IMO.

Same for us...served in the copper mugs!

We're also on the Solstice. Do you remember his name?

I'm not really going on the cruise to drink, but I need a libation or two in evenings.

If you happen to find yourself on Qsine, they make a mighty fine version of the mule as well.

Can you get one on the classic package? They have become a go to of mine here at home!

What is a Moscow mule? :confused: Never heard of it.
Vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice. Usually served in a special copper mug.
Are they good?

On the Solstice now and I've had several in the Passport bar

Never had a problem getting anything if they had the makings, even if you needed to explain how to make it.

I like them because they're not too sweet, and I really love the spiciness of the ginger. I don't really like sweet drinks, but I can do a Pimm's cup because of the cucumber and lemon.

OCA REP

I believe that when ordering more obscure drinks, or something that you might prefer to be made a certain way, you should know the ingredients and be able to communicate that to the bartender. I would not assume a bartender is going to Google a drink recipe. Perhaps a PARALYZER or PAIN KILLER are well known cocktails, but I have never heard of them.

We enjoy a top-shelf margarita made according to a recipe we enjoy at home. A friendly discussion with the bartenders at the Mast Bar and Michael's Club, along with instructions on the proper preparation, got us service with a smile... and a nearly perfect margarita each time.

Enjoy yourself!

The taste depends on the brand of ginger beer. There is Goslings, Bunderberg and Fever Tree to name the brands that they have had on board. Sometimes if you order one they may also use ginger ale. Fever Tree is rare. A 4 pack of 6.8oz bottles at the lowest price is about $5, available at Sur La Table for $8.

As with most drinks if you change the spirit it is a different drink. Use rum instead of vodka and it is a dark and stormy. That is usually made with Goslings Ginger Beer and Goslings rum. I prefer Kraken rum over the Goslings.

2024 Chevy Traverse First Drive: Big Improvements Everywhere Except the Interior

New turbo four-cylinder does not disappoint.

2024 Chevy Traverse Z71

  • The redesigned Traverse isn't hurting for power with new turbo-four.
  • Extra-roomy interior features a larger 17.7-inch infotainment screen.
  • It offers available Super Cruise driver assist technology.

The redesigned 2024 Chevrolet Traverse might technically be a midsize SUV, but it's one of the most spacious out there with three rows of usable seating and generous cargo space. If you have plenty of young ones to haul around but don't want to commit to the truck-based Chevy Tahoe, the Traverse is your best bet.

The 2024 Traverse lineup deviates slightly from last year's. The LS is the budget-friendly model, followed by the LT, the off-road-oriented Z71 and the sport-infused RS. The Traverse goes up against some heavy hitters, including the Hyundai Palisade, Mazda CX-90 and the Edmunds Top Rated favorite, the updated Kia Telluride. These three offer excellent styling and technology, something Chevrolet has struggled with in the past. The new Traverse tackles that issue head-on and hopes to be even more competitive because of it.

2024 Chevy Traverse RS and Z71

Hello, four-cylinder

Folks expecting big displacement under the hood should look elsewhere. Gone is the 3.6-liter V6 from last year, replaced by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. However, the addition of a turbocharger means it puts out more power than the old V6 — a stout 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. The only bummer here is that there is no other powerplant option up top. We'd love to see a hybrid option, a growing desire for many shoppers in this segment.

The Traverse is offered standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is also available. Regardless of drivetrain, power gets to the pavement through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Z71 gets an upgraded twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system for better traction off-road, as well as a 1.2-inch lift, all-terrain tires, an improved approach angle, uniquely tuned shocks and a Terrain driving mode. Meanwhile, the RS gets a sport-tuned suspension, 22-inch wheels and a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Z71 profile

Behind the wheel

While not everyone will be thrilled that the Traverse is now down to four cylinders, rest assured that this powertrain is up to the task of moving the big SUV. This turbocharged engine has enough grunt to get the job done. However, it can get unpleasantly noisy when you go full throttle, and you'll hear it even more because the rest of the Traverse is so quiet. Then again, the outgoing V6 wasn’t exactly an auditory masterpiece either.

From the driver’s seat, the Traverse feels very much like a big three-row SUV. The Mazda CX-90 and Kia Telluride, by contrast, pull off the illusion of driving like smaller SUVs than they actually are. If that’s what you’re after then the Chevy probably isn’t right for you. The steering feel is extremely light and the Traverse requires a good amount of input to turn.

In terms of the ride, it's pretty comfy. The Traverse ably smooths out bumps and potholes. Even the RS trim, which has a sport-tuned suspension and big 22-inch wheels, is still a pleasant vehicle on the road.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Z71 front interior

Lots of space but a few quibbles

Lots of space is the Traverse's calling card. Its second row can be configured with a bench seat or captain's chairs, and there is room for three adults in the third row. The captain's chairs' one-touch power seats slide forward quickly for easy access to the last row, even when a child seat is installed in the second row. If you want a power-folding third row or heated rear seats, you need to step up to the RS trim.

We’re not thrilled with the material choices in the new Traverse. Nothing feels cheap or flimsy, but the SUV is filled with black plastic. That’s only broken up by the bright red trim on the dash and door panels, which isn’t the most pleasing to look at. We also worry about the plastic-covered center console and its ability to attract fingerprints if you have kids. For the lower-priced trim levels, the interior materials feel appropriate; but for the nearly $60,000 RS, things should look nicer than they do.

Front passengers are treated to a big 17.7-inch infotainment display and an 11-inch digital gauge cluster, bringing the Traverse fully into the 21st century. The Traverse also gets a standard suite of driver aids that includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning and lane keeping assistance. There's also a new standard feature called Buckle to Drive, and it requires front-seat passengers to be strapped in before driving. Every Traverse also comes with blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic warning and braking.

The coolest available tech to hit the Traverse is Super Cruise. This hands-free driving assist function works on most pre-mapped highways and takes care of the braking, steering and acceleration of the vehicle. Super Cruise is one of the best in the auto industry. It turns on and off with clear indications to the driver as it’s happening and now tackles gentle curves in the road better than it has in the past. However, drivers must pay attention at all times. Super Cruise is not a fully automated driving system, and you'll need to retake control in situations where a collision might be imminent.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Z71 rear with open hatch

Room, room and more room

The Traverse is one of the most capable SUVs in the three-row crossover class, starting with its 97.6 cubic feet of maximum storage with the two back rows folded. After seeing it in person, we can attest to the claims of the Traverse's commodious caboose. Passenger storage is similarly generous. There's plenty of room for smaller objects up front with a pass-through center console, a large cubby in front of the cupholders, and a deep center console.

When configured properly, the Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds, which is typical for this class of vehicle but a fair bit behind the king of this class, the Dodge Durango (8,700 pounds).

Edmunds says

The Chevrolet Traverse has long been a solid pick for shoppers wanting a spacious crossover SUV for both gear and people. Now that it's taken a huge step forward with the modern technology that many buyers desire. The top-trim RS doesn't offer enough to justify its high price tag, but the LS and LT provide great bang for the buck.
