IMPORTANT SUGGESTIONS:Vector’s Thermoelectric Cooler/Warmer cools like a refrigerator and warms like anoven. For best performance, plug in the unit approximately 30 minutes beforeloading to give it time to warm up or cool down. Always try to fill your unit with prechilledor pre-heated food or beverages, as the unit will always perform at its bestwhen you do this. Generally, your unit will cool down to as much as 40°F below theambient temperature. For example, in a room, where a constant temperature of 80°Fis sustained, the unit will cool to approximately 40°F – 45°F. To ensure optimum performance,always keep the unit out of direct sunlight when running on the cold cycle.When the unit is running on the warm cycle, it will warm to approximately 120°F. Oncold days, the unit will need more time to reach the maximum warm temperature. Topromote your unit’s cooling capacity on warm days, try reusable frozen ice packets.These are particularly helpful in keeping your unit cold while unplugged. TROUBLESHOOTING:Problem/Possible Cause/Remedy• Travel Cooler/Warmer is not functioning as cooler or warmer (fan is not turning)• Accessory outlet of DC power supply is not functioning -check by plugging in a12 volt DC appliance. If not, clean accessory outlet and re-connect the TravelCooler/Warmer.• Fuse or circuit breaker in accessory outlet is open. Reset breaker or check fuse,and replace fuse if necessary.• Ignition is switched off - start engine or switch ignition to “accessory” position.• Fuse in unit’s power cord is blown - see Fuse Replacement section for locationof fuse and instructions for checking and replacing fuse.- Cooler/warmer is not cooling or heating properly (fan is not turning).• Fan is defective. Observe all CAUTIONSAND WARNINGS.Note: With a current draw of approximately 4-amps (48-watts), the unit will operatefor approximately 50 minutes from a fully charged 12 volt DC portable powersupply such as the Vector Pocket Power or Pocket Generator. A standard 17Ampere Hour Jump-starter/Power Supply such as the VEC021 series - canoperate the cooler/warmer for approximately 6 hours.CONNECTING TO AN AC (120V)/DC (12V) POWER ADAPTER• Plug converter’s (VEC004A - 120V) power cord into standard 120 Volt 60 HZ outlet• Make sure that unit’s COOL/WARM/OFF switch is in the off position• Insert the 12 Volt DC socket of the AC/DC power adapter• Continue with steps 4–9 for cooler or warmer functionOBSERVE ALL CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS.FUSE REPLACEMENTThe power cord is fuse-protected against short-circuiting, by a 5-amp fuselocated in the tip of the 12 Volt DC plug. Any attempt to service by user will void warranty.CARE AND MAINTENANCEThe Vector ® Deluxe Console Thermoelectric Travel Cooler & Warmer is ruggedlyconstructed to provide years of dependable service.- After each use, clean the unit, inside and out, with a soft cloth and mildsoap solution.- Do not scrape, scratch or puncture the surface of the cooler with sharp objectsor abrasives.- Dry the unit properly and store in a cool, dry place.- Always make sure the power cord is disconnected before storing.- Never allow the cooler/warmer to be immersed in liquid.6

CAUTIONS:• This unit is intended for use with a 12 volt DC power source that canprovide at least 4 amperes of current. DO NOT attempt to use with anyother power source.• NEVER operate unit in an enclosed space. ALWAYS ensure that there isadequate ventilation and free flow of air around the unit, so that airexpelled by the fan is effectively dissipated.• When operating the unit in a vehicle or boat cabin, adequate ventilationmust be provided by an air conditioning system or open window. USING THE TRAVEL COOLER/WARMER AS A COOLERConnecting to a vehicle’s 12 volt DC accessory outlet, for extended use:1. Make sure that the unit’s COOL/WARM/OFF switch is in the OFF position.Start vehicle, or turn ignition to “accessory” position.2. Insert the DC plug into the vehicle’s 12 volt DC accessory outlet.3. Move the COOL/WARM/OFF switch on the cooler to the COOL position.4. The LED COOL indicator will light (GREEN light) to show that the unit is cooling.5. Put items into the cooler and close the lid. Do not overstuff the cooler or keepthe lid from closing.6. Keep cooler lid closed during operation and re-close it quickly when addingitems to it or removing items from it.7. After use, turn the switch to the OFF position and empty the cooler.8. Disconnect the power cord from the vehicle’s accessory outlet and fromthe cooler. Clean unit as described in the Care & Maintenance section ofthis manual.9. Store in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight.CAUTIONS:• The cooler takes about 120 minutes to reach its maximum cool temperaturedepending on the outside surrounding temperature. It is recommendedthat items to be placed in the cooler be pre-chilled. This will assist the coolerin reaching the lowest temperature as quickly as possible.• The cooler will continue to operate as long as the vehicle batteryprovides power.• If the vehicle engine is turned off, the cooler will continue to draw power(a nominal 4-amps or 48-watts) from the vehicle battery.• If the engine is switched off for a long period (overnight) it is importantto disconnect the cooler from the accessory outlet to avoid draining thevehicle’s battery.WARNINGS:• Food will stay cool for some time after the unit is disconnected or turnedoff, but temperature will rise to that of the surrounding air.• Observe common sense hygiene rules, as with any cooling unit.Do not eat or drink perishable items that may have spoiled or becomecontaminated without proper temperature control.4

USING THE TRAVEL COOLER/WARMER AS A WARMER- Make sure that the unit’s COOL/WARM/OFF switch is in the OFF position. Startvehicle, or turn ignition to “accessory” position.- Insert the DC plug into the vehicle’s 12 volt DC accessory outlet.- Move the COOL/WARM/OFF switch on the cooler to the WARM position.- The LED WARM indicator will light (RED light) to show that the unit is warming.- Put items into the warmer and close the lid. Do not overstuff the warmer. Theunit’s warming system is monitored by an automatic switch that turns theheating system on and off when excessively high temperatures are reached.- Keep warmer lid closed during operation, and re-close it quickly when addingitems to it, or removing items from it.- After use, turn the switch back to the OFF position. Remove any food items.- Disconnect the power cord from the power supply socket and from the warmer.Clean unit as described in the Care & Maintenance section of this manual.- Store in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight.CAUTIONS:• The warmer is intended to maintain the temperature of pre-heated foodand beverages; it is not designed to warm cold items.• The warmer takes about 120 minutes to reach its maximum warmtemperature (approx. 120ºF). It is recommended that items to be stored inthe warmer be pre-heated. Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

• Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
• Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
• How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
• What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
• What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
• What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.
