RVing in the southern states can be a lot of fun. But the weather can easily turn hot and muggy during your travels. Fortunately, one of the top parks for RV camping in Louisiana is here to help. Fireside RV Resort prides itself on providing well-shaded outdoor fun.

This summer looks to be a hot one, so you need a place that has plenty of cool, refreshing activities to enjoy. Although fire is part of the name, the resort owners strive to create comfortable conditions all year long. It’s a well-rated destination with plenty of outdoor activities and modern amenities.

If you’re traveling through The Pelican State, you’ll have plenty of options for Louisiana RV camping. But why not stay in one of the top-rated parks in the state? Fireside RV Resort has won the hearts of guests and critics alike, so let’s take a closer look at why it has so many fans. Maybe it will become a new favorite for you as well!

Fireside RV Resort Overview

Fireside RV Resort is located at 42053 Hwy 445 in Ponchatoula. It’s located between Baton Rogue and Slidell, but you’ll need to make a bit of a drive to reach these destinations. Closer towns include Ponchatoula, Covington, and Hammond.

This resort is fairly large, with a grand total of 162 sites. All of these sites include full hookups for water, sewage, and electricity, so you don’t need to worry about boondocking here. Paved roads run throughout the park, and the sites are also coated in gravel. There’s also a mix of parking styles, such as pull-through and back-in sites. The maximum site length is about 65 feet.

Thanks to the warm weather in Louisiana, this park is open all year long. However, it does have different pricing depending on the season. The summer season spans from April to October, while the winter season covers the months between November and March. The winter rates are a bit cheaper, which makes this a prime destination for snowbirds.

Weekend nightly rates are as follows (winter first, summer second):

• Standard RV Site: $63–$73
• Premium RV Site: $73–$83
• Double RV Site: $126–$146
• Triple RV Site: $189–$219
• Cabin Rental: $135–$165

As you can see, cabins are included on the list. There are 10 rentals to choose from, and all of them are modern, comfortable, and fully furnished. They come with kitchens, beds, and all the necessary tools and appliances.

If you live in the area and just want to visit the park for an afternoon, take advantage of the $20 daily Fun Pass ! This grants you access to all the campground amenities, even if you don’t have an RV.

Amenities at Fireside RV Resort

It might sound odd for an RV park to invite outside guests to enjoy day-use access. But it makes sense when you look at the fantastic amenities that are provided to visitors!

Temperature regulation is one of the key highlights of this park. Whether you stay in your RV or spend time outside, you can easily overheat when you set up camp in a sunny area. Louisiana RV camping often means hot, humid weather, so you need a way to escape from these conditions.

The owners of Fireside RV Resort planned for this situation and are here to help. That’s why the park is surrounded by tall, mature trees. These offer a protective canopy, so you’ll never feel too warm. In addition, the conditions here are often 15 degrees cooler than in unshaded areas.

But shade isn’t the only attraction there is to offer. If you need to take a refreshing swim, splash into the park’s lazy river! This is open during the summer season (April–October), and it’s a gorgeous feature of the park.

The river has an offshoot pool, complete with a swim-up bar for adults to enjoy. The central island has a small pool as well, so you can get away from the current if you want to. The pool and surrounding lounge area are modern, well-landscaped, and absolutely beautiful. It’s fun for the whole family!

That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the amenities at this park. There are stellar bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities, so you can stay clean and refreshed at all times. The lazy river is always a fun activity, but you can also spend time at the playground, horseshoe pit, and fishing pond.

There’s also a dog park for your pets to enjoy, so there’s plenty of room for them to work out their energy. Finally, you can easily travel around the resort in a rented golf cart! Travel back and forth in minutes and save your legs for other adventures during the day.

Nearby Activities/Attractions Wile RV Camping in Louisiana

Ponchatoula may not be the largest city in Louisiana, but it still has plenty to offer. When you want to venture away from the Fireside RV Resort, you’ll find lots of ways to spend your time.

For starters, you can enjoy all kinds of water activities both inside and outside the park. There are lots of opportunities for fishing, kayaking, boating, swimming, or just walking along scenic waterfronts. You can even sign up for gator tours if you want to see the local wildlife up close.

There are also some interesting local destinations to explore. Check out Mrs. Heather’s Farm , wander around the Ponchatoula Country Market , or spend a day at the Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center . There’s even an annual Strawberry Festival in mid-April.

DETROIT — The shakeup in college football is having an impact on the NFL draft.

Now that college players can make money on their name, image and likeness, without losing their eligibility, there isn’t the same urgency to leave for the pros.

Many NFL evaluators say that has impacted the draft, which wrapped up Saturday, in some cases diluting the caliber of players available in the later rounds.

“It’s a real issue,” said a longtime NFL team personnel executive, noting the talent drop was more precipitous this year than in previous later rounds.

“People are being talked into staying in college, because you’re making reasonable money, and money that’s newly found, and you’ve got a chance to continue to get better,” CBS college football analyst Rick Neuheisel said. “Coaches can say, ‘You could stay around and go up two rounds next year.’ That’s a lot, if you’re just talking dollars and cents, not to mention the fun of having another year of college.

“There’s not that pressure to be a breadwinner from families that are in that socioeconomic climate, because you are earning money.”

Noted quarterback evaluator Greg Cosell said it’s a trend that’s going to continue in years to come.

“The lesser kids who research where they’re going to be drafted, because you can research that, are far more likely to stay in college,” Cosell said. “What they’ll do is look for their best opportunity to make the most NIL money. Now you’re seeing kids transfer three times, four times, because it’s all about that NIL money.”

That has a reverberating effect on the draft.

Bear necessities

Even though the Chicago Bears have spent decades wandering the quarterback desert, looking for their next Sid Luckman, there’s ample reason for optimism with No. 1 pick Caleb Williams .

First, the former USC star is tremendously talented, but he also has some exceptional receivers in Keenan Allen, D.J. Moore and No. 9 selection Rome Odunze.

The shelves are stocked, and that wasn’t the case when the Bears drafted Justin Fields.

It’s a pretty amazing culture that Jim Harbaugh built at Michigan, and it showed with so many teams drafting those Wolverines — including running back Blake Corum to the Rams, and linebacker Junior Colson to Harbaugh’s Chargers.

Beginning with quarterback J.J. McCarthy going to Minnesota with the 10th pick, nine former Michigan players were taken in the first five rounds.

Slump buster

The New Orleans Saints ended the quarterback drought Saturday, by using the 150th pick on South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler.

There were 137 selections made between Denver taking Oregon’s Bo Nix and the Saints taking Rattler. That was the longest stretch between quarterbacks in draft history.

Funny, because the first half of the first round was all about that position. There were six quarterbacks drafted among the first 12 picks, tying the six-quarterback record set in 1983.

Rattler has an outstanding arm but played behind a porous offensive line last season and forced a lot of throws. That got him into trouble.

He becomes the fifth quarterback on the Saints roster, along with starter Derek Carr, and reserves Jake Haener, Kellen Mond and Nathan Peterman.

Nervous Nix

Neuheisel said Nix will need to prove he has the cool-under-pressure composure to succeed in the NFL.

“It’s nothing from an athletic standpoint that bothers me,” said Neuheisel, a former college head coach and NFL offensive coordinator. “I just see that when the house is burning there’s a panic reflex.

“Whereas the great ones just kind of find their way out of trouble, it’s like they’re superheroes putting on a cape — Elway going to the far stretches of the sideline, throwing across the body and everybody’s in wow mode — I see that in Nix, his escape mode is always backwards, and when he throws he throws quickly and sometimes it’s, `Oh, no,’ which can result in turnovers.”

Doubling up

When it comes to head-scratching decisions, the Atlanta Falcons retired the trophy when they used the No. 8 pick on Washington quarterback Michael Penix. This after last month signing Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal worth $180 million.

The Falcons could have used help with their pass rush, receivers, offensive line, on and on…

The bright side for them, though, is they’re going to have answers at quarterback. Lots of teams are unable to say the same.

Happy returns

Especially when it comes to late-round selections and rookie free agents, the clearest path to making an NFL roster is often contributing on special teams.

The emphasis on that is even greater now that new kickoff rules are in place for the 2024 NFL season. The new alignment will put the coverage and return teams much closer together at the kick, curtailing those violent collisions when players have long runways before crashing into one another. Touchbacks have become the norm in recent years. Only 22% of kickoffs were returned last season.

The film business has had to battle its way through everything from COVID shutdowns to strike-induced box office delays to steep competition from a tidal wave of high-priced streaming content over the past seven years.

The contraction in theatrical releases and the post-pandemic downturn at the box office has raised the stakes for every film release, from blockbusters to arty fare — so said a group of top theatrical marketing executives who spoke April 24 during a roundtable panel at Variety ’s annual Entertainment Marketing Summit, presented by Deloitte.

So did Marc Weinstock, president of worldwide marketing and distribution for Paramount Pictures. “You got to be so undeniable that the infrequent moviegoer says, ‘Yeah, I wasn’t thinking about this, I hear it’s really good. The reviews look great. It’s everywhere in culture.’”

Netflix’s Lee brought the perspective of a subscription-based platform.

“For us, every night is movie night,” she said. But the challenge isn’t that different from a studio looking to pack the multiplexes. “We have to enter that conversation. We have to be part of the zeitgeist. And then we know that at least when you come to watch a movie, or a show that’s in the zeitgeist right now, we think that you’re going to stay to because you’re going to be served something else. We know you that well that we can personalize the content that will get delivered to you. But the challenge remains the same. You’re competing for attention.”

“The thing that is really unbelievably so key about trailers is that you are capturing people right in the place where they’re going to come and see your movie,” said Rebecca Kearey, executive VP and head of international marketing and business operations for Searchlight Pictures. “Nothing replaces it in terms of hitting people in the house where you want to them to see.”

One big change in the world of trailers is the end of the decades-long tradition of having entirely different reels for international markets outside the U.S. It had been common practice to have “a completely different international trailer and never the two to ever meet,” Kearey said. “Now, every single puzzle piece is so interconnected. The world is a much smaller place.”

It didn’t take long for the conversation to turn to the “ Barbenheimer ” phenomenon that took over last summer’s box office. For the teams behind Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” and Universal’s “Oppenheimer,” it was all the more impressive and impactful because the moment came entirely from the grassroots of TikTok and other social media.

Goldstine saw the fan-fueled “Barbenheimer” memes and videos as reflected a rare feel-good moment of national unity.

“It really just hit this kind of cultural nerve, and it just happened to be that you had these two movies open on the same day [July 21],” Goldstein said. “The most compelling and positive thing about it was that – the internet is a tool of division – you’re team this or team that… There was this moment there where there was an idea that people can be both.”

Goldstine noted that Warner Bros. was “too busy dealing with all that was ‘Barbie’ and the way in which it was seeping into culture in the most unexpected ways” to have launched a covert campaign to promote the “Barbenheimer” concept.

Caines acknowledged that Universal’s options were limited by the serious subject matter of Christopher Nolan’s biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb. But that didn’t mean the studio didn’t recognize the significance of the “Barbenheimer” moment.

“Our positioning was, this was the most important guy in the world who, who invented with a team of scientists the thing that changed the world most significantly,” Caines said. “So we did not lean into the fun of ‘Barbenheimer.’ But what we wanted to do was say, ‘Wow, something is happening in culture.’ The audience has decided these two movies are the two movies we want. And they felt ownership of them in a way that you get to see if you’re lucky once in your career, and that’s what happened.”

Weinstock acknowledged Paramount Pictures’ stumble in 2019 with its first take on a film featuring the beloved Sonic the Hedgehog video game character. When launching reboots and revivals, “it’s always easier to get the core fans excited first and radiate outwards. If you don’t get them first – like we had a little unfortunate incident with Sonic. But we rectified it.”

The level of two-way communication that Paramount’s redo on its plans for what became 2024’s successful “Sonic the Hedgehog” release reflects the harsh reality of a turbulent environment for movies, Goldstine said.

“One of the things that we’re all realizing is that we no longer can buy movie openings. We live in a world where it is a combination of earned media and paid media and how those two things work together,” he said. “Advertising is something that is very easy to avoid in the digital space. We have to make compelling content that people want to see. And we have to launch it in ways that are incredibly persuasive.”

Harvey Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction overturned by New York appeals court

Harvey Weinstein ’s 2020 rape conviction was overturned Thursday in New York, making way for a new trial.

The state Court of Appeals found that the judge in the landmark #MeToo trial prejudiced Weinstein, the former film mogul, with improper rulings, including a decision to let women testify about allegations that weren’t part of the case.

“We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes because that testimony served no material non-propensity purpose,” the court said in a 4-3 decision. 

“The court compounded that error when it ruled that defendant, who had no criminal history, could be cross examined about those allegations as well as numerous allegations of misconduct that portrayed defendant in a highly prejudicial light,” it said.

Judge Jenny Rivera called the errors “egregious” and said the remedy is a new trial. Weinstein's accusers could again be called to testify if prosecutors decide to pursue another trial.

Judge Madeline Singas, in a dissenting opinion, accused the majority of “whitewashing the facts to conform to a he-said/she-said narrative” and failing to recognize that the jury was allowed to consider Weinstein’s past assaults.

“This Court has continued a disturbing trend of overturning juries’ guilty verdicts in cases involving sexual violence,” Singas wrote.

In a separate dissenting opinion, Judge Anthony Cannataro said the decision was an “unfortunate step backwards.”

'Our truth isn't overturned,' Weinstein accuser says

Louise Godbold , who used to work in commercial production and has alleged that Weinstein attacked her twice in 1991, told NBC News that her first reaction to the ruling was "a visceral one."

"Texting with other survivors, we’re all saying ‘our hands were shaking so much,'" she said Thursday. "All of the fear and the panic and the confusion from the original trauma comes back, and before you even have time to compose a thought, it’s your body that’s reacting."

Caitlin Dulany, an actor who has said Weinstein sexually assaulted her in a hotel room during the 1996 Cannes Film Festival, said she is "deeply shocked" and "saddened."

"I think I'm still in a little shock," she told NBC News. “I think later on a lot of the deep sadness will come through."

Filipina Italian model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez , who accused Weinstein of groping her and captured him on tape saying, “I won’t do it again,” said the decision highlighted ongoing failures of the justice system and the courts.

Former actor and Weinstein accuser Dawn Dunning slammed the decision.

"While I’m stunned that the court threw out Weinstein’s conviction on legal technicalities, I am still proud that I testified and confronted that convicted rapist," Dunning said in a statement.

An attorney for Alexandra Canosa, a producer who has accused Weinstein of rape, said: “Today’s decision by the New York State Court of Appeals is very disappointing. Weinstein is a serial sexual predator and has been found guilty of being one by juries in two separate states.”

Attorney Lindsay Goldbrum, who represented six Weinstein accusers, called the decision a "leap backward for the rule of law" that could deter future sexual assault victims from coming forward.

“To all victims of sexual assault who are retraumatized by today’s ruling, I am so sorry," said Goldbrum, whose clients included model Tarale Wulff , who testified that Weinstein raped her at his Manhattan apartment in 2005 after having lured her there with talk of a movie audition.

Douglas H. Wigdor, an attorney who has represented eight Weinstein accusers, also slammed the decision and said it "is a major step back in holding those accountable for acts of sexual violence."

"Courts routinely admit evidence of other uncharged acts where they assist juries in understanding issues concerning the intent, modus operandi or scheme of the defendant," he said in a statement.

Wigdor said overturning the conviction was "tragic in that it will require the victims to endure yet another trial."

Dulany said she hopes prosecutors will continue to pursue the case. A spokesperson for the Manhattan district attorney’s office said it “will do everything in our power to retry this case, and remain steadfast in our commitment to survivors of sexual assault.”

Godbold expressed concern that the accusers could have to relive their trauma.

“It was definitely re-traumatizing for them to have to go through the trial," she said. "And for any of them to have to go back on the witness stand … it’s just unconscionable that these women will have to go through the whole thing again if there’s a new trial."

She said she hopes the New York accusers remember that "our truth isn't overturned, even if his conviction is overturned."

Gloria Allred, who represented former “Project Runway” production assistant Mimi Haley, said Haley would consider testifying again. Weinstein's New York conviction stemmed from allegations made by Haley and former aspiring actor Jessica Mann .

"I commend Mimi on her courage and willingness to keep standing up for the truth," Allred said in a statement.

Tarana Burke, the founder of #MeToo, spoke at a news conference Thursday.

"Moments like this underscore why movements are necessary," she said. "And we have a movement. ... Almost seven years ago, because these brave women in this case broke their silence, millions and millions and millions of others found the strength to come forward and do the same. That will always be the victory.” 

Actor Ashley Judd , one of the first women to accuse Weinstein of sexual misconduct, said at the news conference, "I stand shoulder to shoulder with women who have bloody knees, because male sexual violence may knock us down, but we get right back up.”

Attorney 'confident' Weinstein's Los Angeles case will be upheld

Weinstein, 72, has been serving a 23-year sentence in a New York prison following his conviction on charges of criminal sex act for forcibly performing oral sex on a TV and film production assistant in 2006 and third-degree rape for an attack on an aspiring actor in 2013.

The charges came to light in 2017 following investigative reports published by  The New York Times  and  The New Yorker . Weinstein's pattern of sexual abuse and lack of accountability helped fuel the #MeToo movement .

Juda Engelmayer, a spokesperson for Weinstein, said Weinstein’s camp is “thrilled with the court’s decision.”

“We obviously have a long road ahead of us in California,” Engelmayer said in a statement to NBC News.

Weinstein’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, said the decision was a "victory" for his client and "every criminal defendant in the United States of America."

Weinstein also faced charges in Los Angeles and was convicted in 2022 of rape and sentenced to 16 years in prison . He was acquitted of a count of sexual battery in that case .

Evgeniya Chernyshova, one of his accusers in the Los Angeles case, did not have a comment on the overturned New York conviction. But her attorney, David M. Ring, said that he was disappointed and that Chernyshova feels bad for the New York accusers.

"However, both she and I are confident that Weinstein’s Los Angeles conviction for rape will be upheld," he said in a statement. "As the only victim who has now obtained a criminal conviction against Weinstein, she will continue to stand tall and do whatever necessary to obtain justice not only for herself but for all victims."

Mark Werksman, Weinstein's attorney in the Los Angeles case, said the overturned conviction was "the right result" and a "great outcome."

"We faced the same unfairness in the Los Angeles case where the judge allowed the prosecutors to admit evidence of five uncharged allegations of sexual assault," Werksman said in a statement. "It’s terribly unfair and creates confusion where you can never be sure whether the jury convicted your client because of charged conduct or uncharged conduct. That’s why these convictions have to be reversed."
