Madman's Journey

Best Things to Do in Genting Highlands for 2 Days

Things to do in Genting Highlands, Malaysia: I visited Genting Highlands when I was young. The number of rides, activities and other stuff to do here is endless. Malaysia itself is a fun place and the Genting Highlands make up for a cherry on top.

The first place that we visited in Malaysia was Genting Highlands. Genting Highlands in a synopsis is a large tourist attraction built on a hill station at the peaks of Titiwangsa mountains, Malaysia. Managed by Resorts World Genting, it boasts large indoor and outdoor theme parks along with a number of stay facilities at the hilltop.

Here’s all about the things to do in Genting Highlands!

Table of Contents

How to Get to Genting Highlands

Get there either by bus or cable car. However, we came to know of the cable car option much later. So we boarded a bus from Kuala Lumpur International Airport directly up Genting Highlands. For the cable car, from the Kuala Lumpur bus, get off at the Awana Bus terminal where you’ll begin your 10 minutes cable car ride to the top.

For the cable car, book your e-tickets online to avoid unnecessary queues. Klook offers cable car e-tickets for discounted prices – check it out below!

There are many buses to take you to the spot and you can board from different places as well. Check out this list of Aerobus timings , ticket prices, and more that I found to get to Genting Highlands.

Anyway, I slept through the bus ride as the flight from Singapore was a tiring one. I had a jacket on the bus and the air kept getting more chilly. We thought the air-conditioner was working on full fledge. With no option but to bear the cold, we hoped it’d get better once we alighted the bus.

But the twist was when we alighted the bus: The air was twice colder when we stepped out! I turned around and saw if I could get back on the bus. It was gone. I strongly suggest you pull over some thick jackets when you visit the Highlands.

Genting Highland Packages

There are many places to book your Genting highlands theme park tickets. Local agencies and online sites. Booking directly on the official Genting Skyworlds is a great option. Genting Highlands recommends booking online tickets to avoid queues and for the best experience.

Make sure to book from trusted sites like Booking.com and Klook. Since we’re a partner of Klook, our readers get better-discounted tickets. Get your tickets to the Skytropolis Indoor Theme park and Outdoor park on Klook here! (Third option is a Genting Pass where you can opt for multiple attractions for one good deal)

I’ve been to both Skytropolis and Skyworlds theme parks and I recommend visiting both . Although the Skytropolis is best for only kids’ rides.

Things to do in Genting highlands: A night at First World Hotel

Don’t worry, this is a day trip! We spent the night on Genting Highlands, but our day of exploring began the next day. We booked a room in the First World Hotel – supposed the world’s largest hotel with over 7000 rooms.

Anyway, we were super tired from the day’s traveling so we didn’t bother wandering around.

Accommodations at Genting Highlands

After having dinner at a restaurant in the hotel, we went straight to our room. It was a modest bedroom with a floor-to-ceiling glass window on one side overlooking the theme park. I pulled the curtains aside only to see the mist clouded outside. My parents assured me it would clear the next morning and we would be able to see the park.

first world hotel malaysia, first world hotel genting highlands

The next morning wasn’t any better. The sun was up and we still couldn’t see anything from the panes apart from faint white sunlight barely making it through the glass panes.

1. Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park

eiffel tower genting highlands, things to do in genting highlands

I had seen the huge roller coaster and a Ferris Wheel on the outside and believed there couldn’t be anything fun to do on the inside.

Inside, I am talking about Skytropolis’s indoor theme park. And oh my, I turned out wrong! It was endless with the rides it had to offer!

And it wasn’t just for kids. There was a casino on one side where I tried to get in and eventually got pushed out. A super-realistic scary house to which we would be taken by a slow cranky funicular train. There were indoor rollercoasters, and so on. However, I ended up playing on little merry-go horses.

genting highlands malaysia

There was also indoor skydiving- which I couldn’t get into either. But hey, I did get on an indoor Ferris Wheel, Bumper car, and even a Columbus :)

2. Skyworlds Outdoor Theme Park

While the indoor theme had bumper cars, the outdoor theme park had bumper boats! Each was for a single person. For me, this was the most fun part of our Genting Highlands day trip. Apart from this, there was a bigger Ferris Wheel that we got on. Yep, I am obsessed with them- I just feel they’re majestic in a manner.

And then there was the huge roller coaster that I’d dreamed of going on for a long time. So I went up there along with my dad and stood in the queue for a while.

To which they said I was not tall enough for the ride. Damn it! Height doesn’t matter in life, right?- but somehow it did in a theme park.

I had no choice but to reside with a much smaller roller coaster not far from the big one. I never had been on one. But when I went on the smaller roller coaster, I was glad I made it back alive!

And then there was the ghost train. You see that happy little kid sitting below there? That’s me. He wasn’t smiling so much when the ride was over. The ghost train was basically a scary house with no walking involved. In other words, a scary house for lazy people.

When you’re visiting Genting Highlands in Malaysia any time later, keep in mind that a day isn’t enough to get around for all the fun. Take at least two. We didn’t know that and we already had to be back in Kuala Lumpur the very same night. On the bright side, we weren’t done with Malaysia. We yet had to visit the Petronas Tower and Batu Caves. The day trip to Genting Highlands was our first stop. We visited the Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpur and the Batu Caves later. Hope you have a great time there! And do tell me about it.

We didn’t have any trouble communicating there as we could understand Malay as it’s similar to Bahasa Indonesia. Check out this article on my blog for some basics of Bahasa Indonesia.

Upon filing form DS-11, both children and adults must pay a $25 execution charge. Payment is paid to the agent who receives the application. This might happen at a local application acceptance facility or at a regional agency. When an adult applies for a Quick passport renewal, there is no execution charge.

The number of calories in a 12-inch pizza can vary based on the type of crust, toppings, and the specific recipe used. On average, a 12-inch pizza with a thin crust typically contains around 1,200 to 1,800 calories. However, it's important to note that this is just an estimate, and the actual calorie count may differ depending on the specific ingredients and preparation methods. If you're looking for a more accurate measurement, it's best to consult the nutritional information provided by the restaurant or pizza brand you're ordering from.

We ordered the  Exclusive 8 Color Set (RM168) , which serves 2 to 4 people. It comes with eight tantalising pork slices, each marinated with a different sauce. The set also includes a hot Korean stew.

The pork slices were extremely well-marinated and had a pleasant smoky flavour. It felt really good to chew on the tender and savoury meats in my mouth. This was the perfect way to start our Genting Highlands trip!

The Void is a virtual reality centre located inside Skytropolis. It offers a variety of themed VR experiences such as Avengers, Star Wars, Wreck-it Ralph, Ghostbusters, and Nicodemus.

trip to genting highland blog

After breakfast, we took the Awana Skyway Cable Car at SkyAvenue for one stop down the hill to Chin Swee Caves Temple . During the ride, we enjoyed wonderful views of the lush rainforest around us.

My whole family had a very enjoyable time at this tranquil temple complex! It was cool to see the towering pagoda, beautiful temples, large statues, and variety of Chinese mythology sculptures. The surrounding mountain views were fantastic too.

Note that this is a one-way ticket , so remember to book the return journey separately if you plan on returning to SkyAvenue afterwards. The ticket has no destination restrictions so you can alight or board at any of the stations.

We took the standard gondola (RM9 one way). If you are willing to spend more, you can take the glass-floor gondola (RM18 one way) instead.

Beauty In The Pot is a Singapore Chinese hotpot restaurant located at SkyAvenue. It is known for its signature Beauty Collagen Broth.

If you are a hotpot fan, this restaurant is a must-visit! Make sure you order the “Signature Beauty Collagen Broth (Scallop & Pork Bone Soup)”. A single pot costs RM32, while a quarter pot starts from RM10 each.

This restaurant is extremely popular so make sure you go early to get a queue number, or call in advance to make reservations. Or you can also visit late at night for supper, since the restaurant opens daily till 2am (last order at 1.15am).

We had the  Original Lobster Roll (RM138) , which was delicious! The lobster meat was fresh and juicy, and went perfectly with the mayonnaise sauce and warm buttered bun.

12pm – Shop at SkyAvenue

trip to genting highland blog

I saw plenty of luxury boutiques such as Chanel, Coach, Furla, Dior etc. There are also many mass-market brands like Addidas, Uniqlo, Under Armour, and G2000. Beauty and wellness shops include Sephora, Bath and Bodyworks, The Body Shop, etc.

Compared to Singapore, the prices are generally slightly cheaper.

While walking around the mall, we came across SkySymphony , an impressive free light show that runs daily at the atrium on the first floor of SkyAvenue.

I was spellbound by the beautiful show which makes use of 1,001 winch balls suspended from the four-storey high ceiling.

The show runs once every hour between 10am and 12am.

2pm – Lunch at Marrybrown

trip to genting highland blog

Ever since I first tried the fried chicken here a few years ago, I will always have a craving for it whenever I go back to Genting Highlands.

This is because the fried chicken just tastes SO good! I love the crispy fried skin, the moist and tender chicken meat, and the fragrant meaty scent. I always feel super satisfied after this simple fast food meal.

Marrybrown Location: Level 4 (T2C-B19), SkyAvenue

4pm – Ripley’s Adventureland

trip to genting highland blog

The Jungle Gym will help your children exhaust their endless energy with ball pit, slides, crawling tunnels, trampoline, and more.

Eagle Landing Zipline is an exhilarating 200 metres zip-line that starts from level 4 of SkyAvenue and ends in Skytropolis Funland. However, you may want to note that there was a malfunction in April 2019 .

6pm – Healing Touch

trip to genting highland blog

The wife and I went for a one hour body massage (RM188) before dinner, and it was an amazing experience!

Everything was on point. First the staff washed our legs with warm water. Then, we had a heavenly body massage in a private room. My masseuse even placed a heated blanket on my body halfway during the massage because I was feeling a little cold. After the massage, we were served with hot ginger tea.

There is another outlet located at First World Hotel lobby, but it is significantly smaller and the ambience is not as serene.

Healing Touch Location: Level 4 inside Ripley’s Adventureland (T2C-B18), SkyAvenue Opening Hours: Daily 10am to 12am Phone: +601 2233 7525

8pm – Dinner at High Line

10pm – Movie

trip to genting highland blog

We caught the action-packed martial arts film “Master Z: Ip Man Legacy”. The plush seats were really comfortable and could even shift into a reclining position! (As for the movie, it was decent but a little violent.)

Standard seats cost RM16 per person, which is significantly cheaper than Singapore. There are IMAX experience and gold class seats too.

Bona Cinemas Location: Level 1 (Lot T2-03A), SkyAvenue

12am – SkyCasino

trip to genting highland blog

SkyCasino Location: Level 1, SkyAvenue Opening Hours: 24 Hours

10am – SnowWorld

trip to genting highland blog

The highlight of the centre is the Toboggan slide, which is fun for both adults and children alike.

Remember to take your own photos because SnowWorld charges a premium for their photo taking services.

This is your last chance to enjoy some cold temperatures before returning to the tropical heat of Singapore!

A Temple Surrounded by Clouds

Genting Highlands: Chin Swee Cave Temple

The next stop would be  Chin Swee Cave Temple , but before heading there, you can 🍴 lunch around Gohtong Jaya , which is on the way to the temple. There are some non-halal and halal restaurants there. Chin Swee Cave Temple was built by the late Lim Goh Tong, founder of the Genting Group (basically the guy who built Genting Highlands). This temple is built on a highland and shrouded by clouds. Besides being a  place of worship , it is also a  beautiful tourist attraction.

Genting Highlands: Chin Swee Cave Temple

Some of the most interesting attractions of this temple are the Giant Buddha Statue, Nine-Storey Pagoda, Guan Yin Statue, 10 Chambers of Hell, Sky Terrace and Bridge of Fairies. Since it is a temple, there is  no entrance fee required  to enjoy the  18 attractions  in Chin Swee Cave Temple. Genting Highlands: Chin Swee Cave Temple

You can also  spend a night in the Goh Tong Hall Residence Room by donating a minimum amount.  It is a comfortable 🛌accommodation with basic amenities. This place makes a strategic accommodation as it is  near the Chin Swee Station , where you can take the 🚠 Awana SkyWay Gondola (cable car)  to Genting SkyWorlds the next day. If you don’t feel like spending your night here, you can take a  cable car ride uphill   straight to  Genting SkyWorlds!

There are  7   accommodations near Genting SkyWorlds  where you can finally rest your body, soul and mind…at least for the night. The hotel ranges from the economically priced  First World Hotel , which also happens to be the world’s largest to   Crockfords ,  the only hotel in Malaysia to receive the prestigious 5-star⭐ rating by the Forbes Travel Guide for 4 consecutive years.

Genting Highlands: Genting Skyworlds

If you are going on a weekday, the queue for each ride is not more than 15 minutes. However, if you go on a public holiday or at weekends, expect to queue for an hour or more. This is why it is important to  download the Genting Skyworlds app . With the app, you can  queue virtually  (applicable for some attractions only) anywhere and enjoy more benefits.

Genting Highlands: Genting Skyworlds

It is recommended to quickly queue virtually for rides & attractions like Independence Days, Alpha Fighter Pilot, Epic Voyage To Moonhaven and Samba Glider as these are pretty popular and can have long waiting times.  One of the most recommended rides that you must try out is Independence Day: Defiance.  It is a motion-simulation ride based on the film Independence Day: Resurgence. Inside it, you can experience the  flying theatre.  This is not for the faint-hearted.

Genting Highlands: Jom Makan Street Food

There are  many food options here in Genting SkyWorlds ,  and you can even exit and re-enter the theme park to have your tummy filled. 16 Incredible Things To Do In Genting Highlands⛰️[2024]

Going on a Genting Highlands trip and want to know all the best things to do in Genting Highlands? We have you covered! Below you will find our guide to all the best attractions in Genting Highlands, Malaysia to plan your ultimate trip.

Located just an hour away from Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands is one of the most popular destinations for a getaway. This is a true resort destination with so many activities at Genting Highlands Malaysia on offer – theme parks, luxury hotels, shopping, a huge casino and plenty of places to eat.

Genting Highlands is a hill station, making it an excellent destination for visitors looking to escape the heat. The climate is cool, the air is fresh and the area is surrounded by a lush rainforest.

Even though I knew all this before visiting, it surprised me just how different the weather is here compared to KL.

Chin Swee Caves Temple Genting Highlands

With so many interesting places in Genting Highlands, a visit here makes for the perfect day trip or weekend away. Our list of things to do in Genting 2024 will help you navigate this exciting destination.

The best part is that most of these attractions are located within Resorts World Genting – a huge resort/shopping/theme park area at the top of Awana Skyway. That makes exploring and experiencing everything ultra simple and it’s easy to see why it’s a popular getaway for Kuala Lumpurians.

The huge shopping area/attraction part is known as SkyAvenue and you’ll see it mentioned often below. It’s like a whole other world, and you could stay here for a few days easy and keep entertained with no reason to leave.

Below, you will find everything you need to know about the best Genting Highlands attractions, some of the best activities in Genting Highland you and the family can do as well as the best places to visit in Genting Highlands for your ultimate holiday.

Top 16 Best Things To Do In Genting Highlands 2024

Here are the best things to do Genting Highlands, Malaysia offers. Read through and select the ones that fit your interests and timeframe.

Have Fun At The Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park

Ice Age at Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park

Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park has long been anticipated with construction starting all the way back in 2013. It finally opened in February 2022 and can now be added to your top 10 things to do in Genting list!

The park features over 26 rides spread over nine differently themed worlds. Rides range from thrilling roller coasters to awesome 4D experiences. There’s also plenty of cool buildings to walk through and see.

The park themes are based on animations and include Ice Age, Rio, Epic and Robots among others making this a great place for kids. Kids can also meet their favourite characters and take photos with them.

There are a few places to eat as well.

The park is currently in a “soft-opening” phase. I visited in April 2023, and honestly found it disappointing with too much shut at the moment, especially with the high entry price.

However, all the pieces are in place for a great theme park. It’s very well presented with some great rides. The upside at the moment is that I found lines very short and plenty of family friendly rides open.

I visited by myself and was finished in two hours with some of the rides I was most hoping to go on not being open. Or, in the case of Samba Gliders, I wasn’t able to go on it unless I wanted to pay a RM20 locker fee!

I don’t think it will be long before this becomes the best place in Genting Highland to visit though. Once it’s all open, I definitely want to return!

Go On The Rides At Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park

Another theme park among top things to do in Genting Highlands Malaysia is Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park at Resorts World Genting.

This indoor theme park is home to over 20 rides ranging from family-friendly activities to some of the most thrilling rides in Genting! There’s also virtual reality attractions, a climbing wall, museum and monuments from around the world.

Located at the centre of Resorts World Genting, you won’t be able to miss this theme park and it’s quite a sight. You can walk through and enjoy without buying tickets too if you don’t like going on rides.

Embrace The Cold In Snow World Experience

You would be forgiven for not thinking that one of things to do in Genting Highland Malaysia is to visit the snow, but it is. Snow World Experience is located at Resorts World Genting and is the best place in Genting Highlands (in fact the only place) to see snow!

Snow World Experience features frigid temperatures and is an indoor winter wonderland. This is a great place for kids. There is a large slide called the Toboggan slide, heaps of cool sports for photo opportunities and even an igloo.

You can do all the things you’d want to do in the snow here like build a snowman, make snow angels and have a snowball fight.

Note, this was temporarily closed at the time of publishing.

Be Thrilled At The Zombie Outbreak

zombie outbreak

Located at Ripley’s Adventureland at SkyAvenue, Zombie Outbreak is another one of the attractions Genting Highland Malaysia offers.

It is basically modeled as an out of control zombie apocalypse. Your job is to try and contain the situation. There are people dressed as zombies and things that jump out at you. It is worth it if you’re looking for unique activities in Genting Highlands. It can be a good activity for families but it’s not really suitable for young kids.

Visit Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum

Ripleys Believe It Or Not Museum

If you’re looking for other unique activities to do in Genting Highlands then consider a visit to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum. Located at SkyAvenue and also known as Ripley Odditorium, this museum hosts some of the weirdest things to see in Genting!

You’ll see zombies, weird and interesting artwork, a ghost house, quirky facts and lots of things designed to trick your eye – a closer look can reveal much more! One to two hours is enough here and it’s better for older kids and adults (younger kids might get scared).

Address: Lot SA – T2C – B13, Genting Highlands, Genting Highlands, Pahang

Other Ripley’s Adventureland Attractions

Ripley's Adventureland

There’s not just Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum and Zombie Outbreak in this part of SkyAvenue. This whole area is called Ripley’s Adventureland and is home to other attractions too including:

  • Jungle Gym – a play centre for younger kids
  • Jurassic Research Centre – go on a dinosaur adventure
  • 4D Trick Art Museum
  • Infinity Room – I didn’t quite understand what this is so please let me know if you do!

Enjoy A Game Or Two At SkyCasino

SkyCasino

If you’re wondering what can you do in Genting Highlands that you can’t do elsewhere in Malaysia, SkyCasino is a good example.

As Malaysia’s only casino, SkyCasino is one of the super unique places to go in Genting Highlands. The casino is huge with all different types of table games played including blackjack, poker as well as slot machines and many other games.

Lines can be long and it can be smokey inside, but it’s worth a visit if you’re looking to gamble among Genting Highlands activities.

Address: Genting Hotel, Genting Grand, Genting Highlands Resort, Genting Highlands, Pahang

Hop On The Genting Awana SkyWay Cable Car

Riding up the mountain in Awana SkyWay

Possibly the top attraction in Genting Highland is the cable car. It is not only the best way to get from point A to B, but it’s also the best way to see the rainforest from above.

Hop inside a gondola (there are both standard and glass floor options) from Awana Station and travel the 620 metres up to SkyAvenue Station. The journey takes about 10 minutes. You can get a ticket with express boarding if there’s a line and you don’t fancy waiting.

The cable car also stops at Chin Swee Station on the way where you can see the Caves Temple (listed below).

The cable car ends at SkyAvenue Station where you’ll find all the resorts, shopping, dining options, theme parks and attractions at Genting Highlands that make it such a popular destination.

Address: Level 4, Awana SkyCentral, Genting Highlands, Pahang

You can also watch this video review we made of Awana SkyWay:

Visit The Chin Swee Caves Temple

Chin Swee Caves Temple

The Chin Swee Caves Temple is open from 9am to 6pm daily and can be reached from the Awana SkyWay by hopping off at Chin Swee Station.

This is a Taoist temple in honor of Reverend Chin Swee, who is believed to bring rain and offer protection from evil spirits. One of the Genting things to do is simply walk around this area.

The temple is intricately decorated with plenty of statues including a large statue of the Buddah. Next door, there is a stunning nine storey pagoda which is also one of the things to see in Genting Highlands.

The walk to the temple itself is fascinating as you’ll pass through the “10 chambers of hell” – a depiction of the path to enlightenment.

Address: Exit 68, Genting Sempah, Pahang, Bentong, Malaysia

Shop Your Heart Out At The Genting Highlands Premium Outlets

Genting Highlands Premium Outlets

Genting Highlands is a great place to shop, and an attraction Genting Highlands offers is the Premium Outlets. This is a large outdoor shopping mall filled with premium brands, and great discounts can be found here.

You’ll find some of the best known brands here including Adidas, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Coach and much more. The cooler weather makes this a refreshing place to shop, and there are lots of places to eat too. There is parking if you are driving.

Genting Highlands Premium Outlets is open from 10am to 10pm daily and located close to Awana SkyWay station.

Address: KM13, Genting Highlands, Pahang

Tour The Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm

Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm

Believe it or not, one of the things to do at Genting Highlands Malaysia year round is strawberry picking. This is because the strawberries grown at the Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm are a special variety that are able to grow year round.

Walking around the farm itself is a fun thing to do. However, one of the best things to do here is strawberry picking. Indeed, this is among the best activities for kids in Genting Highlands. Once picked, you simply pay for the strawberries by their weight.

If you don’t fancy picking your own strawberries, you can purchase a variety of pre-picked strawberries as well as a range of other goods like jams and candies.

There are not just strawberries here. Mushrooms are also grown, as well as herbs, vegetables and flowers. There’s a 6-acre Lavender Garden to visit here too which is included in the entry fee.

Address: No.6, Lot 3707, Jalan Jati 2, Bandar Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands, Pahang

Explore The Lim Goh Tong Memorial Hall

Tan Sri (Dr) Lim Goh Tong Memorial Hall

If you’re interested in exploring the surrounding area then one of the places to visit in Genting Malaysia is the Lim Goh Tong Memorial Hall. This site was built to honor Genting’s founder, Lim Goh Tong.

The hall is open and includes a wooden statue of Lim Goh Tong and some nice decorations. There’s even a pretty Koi fish pond here. There’s also a shop where you can purchase some food to feed the fish as one of the things to do in Genting Malaysia.

Address: Tan Sri (Dr) Lim Goh Tong Memorial Hall, Bentong, Pahang

Watch A Musical At The Arena Of Stars

Arena of Stars

At 45,000 square feet and with capacity for 5000 guests, a visit to the Arena Of Stars is one of the Genting Highlands things to do. This is one of the best places in Genting Highlands to watch a musical or see a show – particularly great if you’re looking for things to do in Genting at night.

Many famous celebrities have graced the stage here. There are also regular tournaments and conferences held here. Musicals are generally held at night. Located close to the SkyAvenue Shopping Mall, it’s easy to buy tickets online or outside the arena. Note, however, popular acts tickets sell fast.

Address: Arena Of Stars, Resorts World Genting Genting Highlands, Bentong, Pahang

And Shop, Bowl, Go To The Cinema And More

SkyAvenue Resorts World Genting

There is so much more at SkyAvenue as well.

There are tons of shops, cinemas, bowling and restaurants. I kept seeing more and more fun things as I walked around.

You can find plenty to do outside of this list of specialised attractions.

Check out what it’s like at the centre of SkyAvenue in the First World Plaza video below:

Explore The French-Themed Village, Colmar Tropicale

Colmar Tropicale

Another unique place among Genting Highland things to do is Colmar Tropicale. Located around 30 minutes from Genting Highlands in Berjaya Hills, Colmar Tropicale is a hotel and village modeled off a 16th century French village.

You can enter the village even if you’re not staying at the hotel by paying a small entry fee. There are a number of shops and restaurants here as well as some pretty buildings and a central square with a fountain.

The village is modestly sized and somewhat run-down but still interesting to see and explore. There are also some great hiking paths nearby in Berjaya Hills.

Address: KM 48 Persimpangan Bertingkat, Karak Expy, Bukit Tinggi, Bentong, Pahang

Take A Day Trip To Kuala Lumpur

KLCC Park, Kuala Lumpur

If you’re done with Genting Highlands Malaysia things to do and want to explore attractions near Genting Highlands then the best place to go is Kuala Lumpur.

KL Sentral is an easy bus ride from Genting Highlands. Once there, you can visit many of the sites that make Kuala Lumpur such a popular destination such as the Petronas Towers, KLCC Park, markets, museums and Merdeka Square.

We also recommend a visit to Little India for a different cultural experience and Bukit Bintang for the ultimate shopping experience.

Click here to read all about the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur.

1 Day Trip To Genting Highland

Genting Highlands

Planning a day trip Genting Highlands? It is entirely possible to do a day trip to Genting Highlands from Kuala Lumpur. It only takes about an hour and a half  to reach Genting Highlands from Kuala Lumpur.

A day trip to Genting from KL will start at KL Sentral and drop you off at Awana Bus Terminal. From here, you can do some shopping at the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets and have some breakfast before hopping on the Awana SkyWay Cable Car.

Get off at Chin Swee Station and see the Chin Swee Caves Temple before getting back on the SkyWay and heading to SkyAvenue Station.

From SkyAvenue Station you can take your pick from the activities above. We recommend a visit to Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park and including some of the things to do in First world Hotel Genting like Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park or Ripleys Believe It Or Not Museum before heading back to Awana Bus Terminal.

If you want to do more than a day trip to Genting Highlands from KL, there are also tours that take you to Batu Caves and Genting Highlands in one day.

Best Place To Stay In Genting Highlands

Genting Highlands is not only a great place to visit, but it’s also a great place to stay. There are many flashy hotels here and they’re generally located in the heart of Genting close to all the major attractions, especially if you stay at Resorts World Genting Highlands where most of these attractions are located.

This is a popular destination and finding a cheap hotel can be more difficult at peak times. However, most of the time the options are very affordable.

Below are my top picks for each price point including a budget, mid-range and pricier option.

BEST – Grand Ion Delemen Hotel Review

trip to genting highland blog

The Grand Ion Delemen Hotel is our top pick of where to stay in Genting Highlands. This hotel offers an indoor pool, a cafe, a range of restaurants, a fitness center and free WiFi throughout.

Rooms are very well equipped and include double and twin options, as well as one/two/three bedroom suites. This hotel has some of the best room options for families. All rooms have a large flat screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities.

The hotel is located 10 minutes away from Genting Highlands major attractions, and there is a shuttle bus that operates each hour for a small fee. This is a great place to stay in relaxing surroundings.

Click here for the latest prices.

MID-RANGE – Resorts World Genting – First World Hotel Review

trip to genting highland blog

Resorts World Genting – First World Hotel is connected to the SkyAvenue Mall. The best part of staying here is that all the major attractions are nearby.

There are a range of rooms for hire including deluxe and double rooms as well as twin and triple rooms. Many rooms offer nice views. Rooms are small but all include TV’s, safes and private bathrooms.

At most times, this is an affordable option for travellers. There is plenty of parking, a fitness center, a spa and several onsite restaurants.

BUDGET – Genting View Resort Malaysia Review

trip to genting highland blog

Genting View Resort Malaysia is located a short distance away from the main attractions of Genting Highlands. This is a clean and contemporary hotel and perfect if you’re driving as it offers free parking.

Rooms include twin, double and family options with two double beds. All rooms include a desk, flat screen TV, fridge and balcony. They are fresh and clean.

One of the benefits of staying here is free bike hire. They also have activities like table tennis and billiards, as well as a swimming pool. Free WiFi is also available throughout, and there is a restaurant onsite.

You can find our full guide to the top places to stay in the Genting Highlands here.

How To Get To Genting Highlands

Genting Highlands cable car

It’s easy to get to Genting Highlands by bus, a cable car or a car. You can hop on a bus ride from KL Sentral to Awana Bus Terminal.

You can then take a 10-minute Awana SkyWay Cable Car ride to Genting Highlands. Hiring a car or taxi is also an option but isn’t as affordable.

If you need to take a bus, click here for the latest timetables and bus prices.

You can also hire a car to get you there by clicking here.

If you drive or get a taxi, I still recommend you get the Awana Skyway cable car up to Genting Highlands.

You can also read our full guide to how to get from KL to Genting Highlands here.

Genting Highlands With Kids

Genting Highlands is an awesome place to visit with kids. In fact, many of the activities Genting Highland offers are made even more fun by visiting with kids. This is especially true when it comes to theme parks and experiences like the Snow World Experience.

Even riding the Awana SkyWay can be a great experience for families.

We also think the Strawberry Leisure Farm is the best place to visit in Genting Highlands with kids. This is a lovely spot for being in nature and makes for a relaxed family friendly activity.

Your kids are sure to love some time at Skytropolis Genting

Final Words

It’s difficult to find destinations that offer as much variety as Genting Highlands in such a small area and a relatively convenient location. Not only is it filled with attractions, but its climate is totally different from Kuala Lumpur whilst only being an hour away.

It is a whole world and I think I’d go a bit batty spending more than a couple of days in Resorts World Genting, where you can barely see daylight, so thankfully, there’s some other attractions around this area to get out and about to as well.

It’s the perfect place for a one day trip or weekend getaway, and it’s made even better by visiting as a group or family. We highly recommend a visit here!

Genting Highlands travel blog: Overview of Genting Malaysia

trip to genting highland blog

Genting Highlands is about 45 minutes away from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. This is a city located in the Titiwangsa mountain range, at an altitude of more than 1,800 m. Admire the lush green rainforest below while surrounded by cold mist and fog. You can also get a chance to visit Chin Swee Caves Temple on your way up to the peak.

Lobster Burger by B&L Genting

Originating from the UK, Burger & Lobster is one of the most famous restaurants in Genting Highlands. Located in SkyAvenue Genting, this restaurant has a rather romantic ambience with dim yellow lights occupying the ceiling and bright red booth seats.

Just as its name suggests, they only serve three main menu items which are burgers, wild live lobsters, and lobster rolls. What’s great about Burger & Lobster is that they only serve lobsters that are fresh from their very own aquarium! However, do expect to spend your cash more than usual at this restaurant and keep in mind that they only accept walk-in customers.

If you’re planning on eating at a restaurant that serves healthier options, then head to East Court Restaurant on the lower level of Genting Hotel. This non-halal restaurant serves an array of Cantonese cuisines that is deliciously infused with traditional Chinese herbs.

While they serve all sorts of tasty Chinese delicacies, most customers’ favourite menu is their soup. Nothing beats sipping a nice and hot soup in the middle of cold and cosy weather on top of a hill!

To do that, you can head to Coffee Terrace that can be found on the lobby level of Genting Grand. Keep in mind that this restaurant has a dress code of smart casual, so dress accordingly!

Coffee Terrace is where you can find a great breakfast buffet serving all sorts of delicious cuisines—ranging from local favourites to western, Japanese, Chinese, and Indian cuisines. The restaurant also has a very cosy ambience where you can enjoy your food in full comfort. However, the breakfast buffet is only available from 7 am up until 10.30 am.

Fish & Chips

2.30 p.m .: There are many food options. We settled at The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden for some authentic British fish and chips. You can choose either cod or haddock, and gravy or curry as a dip. My recommendation is to stick with good old malt vinegar. Love the crispy batter and tender fish meat. The baked camembert is very flavourful because of the copious amount of garlic that is embedded into the cheese. However, the calamari are tough and bland, and the chips are a tad dry.

25 Best Things To Do In The Genting Highlands (Malaysia)

The Genting Highlands is only 45 minutes away from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and is one of the most popular vacation spots in the country. The Genting Highlands is known for being one of Malaysia’s hill stations, which puts it in the category of other spots like the Cameron Highlands. There is also a massive cable car system which has put the Genting Highlands on the map, or you can try whizzing through the rainforest on a Flying Fox.
