Saudi arabia to host world travel and tourism council summit next year.

world travel and tourism council riyadh

Riyadh has been chosen to host the 22nd Global Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTCC) next year. The summit, the largest travel and tourism event in the world, will be hosted by the Kingdom at the end of next year following the upcoming edition in Manila from March 14 to 16.

Speaking during the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Julia Simpson, president and CEO of the WTTC, said: “Since the very beginning, when the pandemic brought international travel to an almost complete standstill, Saudi Arabia has shown its total commitment to our sector, ensuring it has remained at the forefront of the global agenda.”

She said the Kingdom “has been instrumental in leading the recovery of a sector which is critical to economies, jobs and livelihoods around the world.

“For that we are grateful and want to recognize their incredible efforts by bringing the global travel and tourism sector to the Kingdom next year.”

Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb welcomed the Kingdom’s selection as the host country for the summit’s next edition, adding that it is “a critical forum for the private sector and government to come together to redesign tourism for the future.”

He said this was “recognition of the Saudi leadership to help the global tourism sector recover, and more importantly, become more sustainable.”

WTTC research shows that the Middle East’s tourism sector is expected to grow by 27.1 percent this year, outpacing Europe and Latin America.

Research also confirms that if governments place the travel and tourism sector at the top of their priorities, the job opportunities provided by the sector will reach 6.6 million jobs in 2022, which would come close to the employment numbers in the sector before the pandemic hit.

WTTC’s annual Global Summit is the world’s most influential and Travel & Tourism event. Saudi Arabia has been leading a new global approach to ‘redesign tourism’ and this summit in Riyadh will see industry leaders gathering with key government representatives to drive support for the sector’s ongoing recovery, moving it to a more safer, resilient, inclusive and sustainable future.

The event in Saudi Arabia will follow the next highly anticipated Global Summit which is taking place in Manila, Philippines, from 14-16 March 2022.

Speaking from the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO said:

“Since the very beginning, when the pandemic brought international travel to an almost complete standstill, Saudi Arabia has shown its total commitment to our sector, ensuring it has remained at the forefront of the global agenda.

“It has been instrumental in leading the recovery of a sector which is critical to economies, jobs and livelihoods around the world.

“For that we are grateful and want to recognise their incredible efforts by bringing the Global Travel & Tourism sector to the Kingdom next year.”

His Excellency Al Khateeb, Minister for Tourism for Saudi Arabia said:

“I welcome the decision to choose Saudi Arabia as the host country for the next WTTC Global Summit in 2022. This is a critical forum for the private sector and government to come together to redesign tourism for the future, and it is fantastic to hold this event in the Kingdom. This is recognition of Saudi leadership to help the global tourism sector recover, and importantly, become more sustainable. I look forward to welcoming all WTTC Members next year.”

Further details of the WTTC Global Summit in Riyadh will be announced in due course.

To coincide with this announcement, latest research from WTTC shows the Middle Eastern Travel & Tourism sector is set to grow by 27.1% this year ahead of Europe and Latin America.

The research also shows that if governments prioritise Travel & Tourism, jobs in the sector could reach 6.6m in 2022, approaching pre-pandemic levels.

Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh is chosen as the host city for the next WTTC Summit

As the 21 st edition of the WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council) Global Summit culminated in April 2022, Saudi Arabia’s capital has been finalized as the next venue for the next Global Summit. It will take place at Saudi Arabia’s capital city, Riyadh, starting from 29 th November 2022 to 2 nd December 2022.

The WTTC Global Summit is one of the most looked forward to international travel events that has been conducted since 1996, every year in a different city or destination in order to attract global audience and further bring together all the members and experts of the international travel and tourism vertical.

The Global Summit made a comeback in 2021 at Cancun as it became the first important WTTC gathering attended by major leaders from the industry since the outburst of pandemic in 2020. And the recently concluded Global Summit was held at Manila, from 20 th April 2022 to 22 nd April 2022. With the main focus to safely reinstate the normalcy of the travel industry, the April session of summit was attended by the top government representatives plus key industry leaders, decision makers and other members.

The WTTC made some significant forecasts during the Manila summit mainly based on the data and reports provided by its knowledge partner, ForwardKeys. Accordingly, the industry is expected to see a bounce back in travel, together with an incredible boost in international flight and holiday bookings. It also revealed the list of top performing destinations as well as the places that are on the path of recovery during the event.

Save the date - World Travel and Tourism Council - Perth (Boorloo) Western Australia - 24th Global Summit 8-10 October 2024

In 2024 we will be hosting the 24th World Travel & Tourism Council Global Summit in Perth (Boorloo), Western Australia.

WTTC’s annual Global Summit is the most influential Travel & Tourism event on the calendar, and in 2024 industry leaders will once again gather with key government representatives to continue aligning efforts to support the travel sector and move beyond to a safer, more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future.

WTTC will host its 24th Global Summit in Perth (Boorloo), Western Australia from 8th – 10th October 2024 . WTTC is delighted to host this influential event in a destination that honours its cultural heritage and works to protect both people and planet.

Western Australia’s commitment to growing its visitor economy sustainably while placing its First Nation people at the centre of everything it does is commendable. It offers many lessons for other destinations. Perth is admired not just for its economic contributions, stunning scenery, and biodiversity, but also for its strong ethos of fostering connections between cultures, communities, and the environment. It is a city that embodies the spirit of unity and an ideal place to bring together global leaders.

Keep checking back to hear more details about the summit soon.

Discover Perth (Boorloo), Western Australia

With weather as welcoming as its friendly locals, Australia’s sunniest capital city of Perth offers adventures for everyone. Framed by the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan), the city boasts 19 pristine beaches, each blessed with dreamy Indian Ocean sunsets, and is home to one of the world’s largest inner-city parks.

Perth is home to the Swan Valley, the only wine region within an Australian capital city — just one of the effortless day trips to enjoy within an hour of the city. You can also explore Perth’s historic and bohemian port city of Fremantle (Walyalup), swim with playful wild dolphins in Rockingham, or cruise to Rottnest Island (Wadjemup) to meet plenty of quokkas, the world’s happiest animal.

Add a thriving metropolis of curated cultural experiences, luxury hotels, shopping precincts, rooftop bars and waterfront dining at Elizabeth Quay on the beautiful Swan River, and it’s easy to see why Perth is such a relaxed and naturally adventurous capital city.
