Breitenbach Wine Cellars

A brief history

It was 1980 when winemaker and owner Duke Bixler opened Breitenbach Wine Cellars. When the winery opened, it produced roughly 1,500 gallons of grape and fruit wines. Today, it produces more than 40 varieties of grape and fruit wines, which is more than 150,000 gallons each year! It’s no surprise that it is one of the most popular wine destinations in Ohio’s Amish Country. In German, Breitenbach means “bright or broad stream,” and is also the name of the stream that runs through the winery grounds. Over the years, Duke and his wife Cynthia, along with their daughters Anita and Jennifer, have kept the quality of Breitenbach alive.

Each year, Breitenbach hosts a Dandelion Festival the first weekend in May. The festival celebrates the arrival of yellow dandelions to the hillside and the subsequent harvest for Breitenbach’s famous Dandelion Wine. The festival includes wine samplings, cellar tours, a 5K run, arts and crafts, live entertainment, food, and lots of fun! Vendors showcase dandelion products during the festival, with anything from soap and pottery to handmade jewelry and crafts. Dandelion foods are available, including dandelion sausage, dandelion bread, dandelion gravy, dandelion lasagna, and dandelion sangria.

The Toolshed

When it comes to beautiful event venues, The Toolshed at Breitenbach is hard to beat. Set on a hilltop overlooking the vineyard, the Toolshed is the perfect venue for weddings, parties, corporate gatherings, and reunions. The venue can accommodate up to 350 guests, making it an ideal choice for those looking to host an Amish Country event.

5 Fantastic Wineries To Visit In Ohio’s Amish Country

amish country wine tour

  • Activities and Interests
  • Destinations
  • Food and Drink
  • United States
  • Wine Regions

Ohio is home to the second-largest Amish settlement in the world. While Amish Country holds its own charms — horse-drawn carriages traversing through towns, haystacks dotting the green countryside, homemade delicious foods, and handcrafted items — this countryside is also home to a multitude of wineries.

The Buckeye State is the sixth-largest producer of wine in the country and home to over 300 wineries across the entire state. When you combine the attractions of Amish Country with the appeal of its wineries, you have a trip that is sure to be not only memorable but delicious as well.

That said, with over 19 wineries in Ohio’s Amish Country, it can be a little overwhelming trying to decide where you want to visit. The sheer size of Amish Country makes it difficult as well — it spreads out over 3,300 square miles in the east-central part of the state.

To make it easier to plan my route, I chose to keep my tastings close together and near other Amish Country tourist attractions. Most of the wineries I visited were located either on or close to State Route 39, which winds its way through three communities that are popular tourist stops when traveling the area: Berlin, Walnut Creek, and Sugarcreek.

Pro Tip: Keep in mind that most businesses in Amish Country are closed on Sunday.

1. Winetagous

You know when you hear a winery with the name Winetagous , it’s going to toss out all the assumed identities of a traditional winery. And this winery does indeed do that, starting with its location: a little brick strip mall located in the heart of one of Ohio’s most visited Amish locations, Sugarcreek. Don’t let the exterior fool you, though. You can feel the laid-back, welcoming vibe as soon as you pull open the front door.

Started by two married couples (Tammy and Mick, and Heide and Steve) who enjoyed wine-making as a hobby, this intimate, trendy winery is open on Fridays and Saturdays year-round with live music every Saturday. You can enjoy the entertainment on their surprisingly large outdoor patio when the weather is good and indoors when the weather is not so kind. While I was there, I sat on the patio in one of their oversized rocking chairs close to a fire pit and listened to the clip-clop of the horse-drawn buggies as they drove by.

Their wine selection is easily navigable since it is just the four owners who make the wine. There are five wines in total, and all of them were excellent. I especially enjoyed their dry red wine called Redemption as well as a sweet concord grape wine called Grapeful. A sample taste of their peach wine slushie proved delicious as well.

Pro Tip: If you prefer a craft beer, ask about their current beer selections. They brew their own beer in small batches and rotate their offerings.

2. Breitenbach Wine Cellars

This family-owned, family-run wine cellar dubs itself the “original Amish Country winery.” Perched on the side of a hill, Breitenbach is composed of a handful of buildings painted in royal purple and red. Steepled rooftops, ornate building details, gold accents, and a testing laboratory in the shape of a castle turret make this winery feel more like the setting of a magical fairy tale than a vineyard.

Their wines, however, are the real magic. They produce about 40 wines that range from sweet to dry and even include a tawny port. I sampled several varieties and found it difficult to choose a single wine I liked the most because they were all tasty. The Roadhouse Red is a can’t-fail choice for a semi-sweet red wine. Their cabernet sauvignon is a great go-to for a dry wine. While in the sampling room, I tried their sweet Red Raspberry wine and enjoyed it as well.

The nearby Amish community provides them with an unusual ingredient for one of their wines — dandelions. This is the only place I know in Ohio that produces dandelion wine — a sweet, pale yellow wine that is delicately delicious. The first weekend in May is their annual Dandelion May fest which features dandelion wine (as well as their other wines), dandelion food, cooking demonstrations, and dandelion arts and crafts. In addition to their once-a-year festival, they offer regular features like an indoor cafe, an outdoor barbeque shed for dining on their patio, and live music.

Silver Moon Winery Starry White Wine Bottle.

3. Silver Moon Winery

Originally started as an educational winery to teach people how to make their own wine, Silver Moon Winery is now a wine destination that focuses on producing over 40 different wine styles. This cozy winery makes you feel right at home with friendly staff who help you with wine tasting and still take the time to educate you.

Their selections range from fruit-infused wines to white and red wines to dessert wines that sport tantalizing names like Chocolate Cherry Dream and Pumpkin Spice Dream. I talked with the winery’s manager Melissa Wigfield about the best way to go about selecting a wine, and she recommended their best-selling wine, Starry White. “While it is a sweet wine, it has a crispness to it that seems to appeal to just about everyone,” she said. She also mentioned their wine slushies are another consistent customer favorite.

You can uncork and sip your newly discovered favorite wine inside the winery at one of several small tables, sink into the deep chocolate brown leather chairs like I did, or enjoy your wine outside on the front patio.

Sunny Slope Winery Entrance Sign.

4. Sunny Slope Winery

Big prairie .

While the building that houses Sunny Slope Winery has been in the same family since 1927, the winery that takes up this space is definitely not your auntie’s wine shop. A former old country market, deli, and gas station, Sunny Slope Winery’s attitude is one that is slightly rebellious toward the pompousness associated with winemaking — and it also yields a wistful nod to its grocery store past.

The outside of the winery is rustic in the lonely highway sense of the word, but once inside, you are surrounded by an eclecticness and warmth that can come only from family pride and love of craft. The interior, once filled with aisles of grocery shelves, now is filled with a vibrant wine bar whose counter stretches out to end at an antique chest of drawers. Red metal chairs and tables with thick, wooden tops fill the middle area, leaving enough room near the front door for a live performer to sing to the crowd.

And of course, you can’t miss the deli counter. Stocked with the expected meats and cheeses, plus ready-to-go sandwiches, cake slices, and veggie trays, you can’t help but wonder how many customers come in for a quick grocery run and sit down for a glass of wine instead.

Owners Tom and Tara Bright maintain a standard menu of sweet and dry red and white wines, a sweet blush wine, and an elderberry wine that is one of the customer’s consistent favorites. Slap, a sweet red wine, is also a favorite among customers. Its namesake originated from a neighbor’s blunt but enthusiastic review after sampling it. “It’s so good it makes you wanna slap your mama”, he reportedly said.

Seasonal wines such as Strawberry Wine, Watermelon Crawl, and a blueberry wine called Holmes County Blues are available throughout the year. My personal favorite is River Rat, a sweet red wine that leaves an ever-so-slight aftertaste of cotton candy.

Pro Tip: If you would rather watch the game than drink wine, then grab yourself a snack and sit down in one of the leather chairs or stretch out on the gray couch that faces the 75-inch wall-mounted TV above the fireplace. They’ll turn the game on for you. Or you can play one of the board games they have stacked next to the TV.

Ugly Bunny Winery Entrance Sign.

5. Ugly Bunny Winery

Loudonville.

Named after a pet rabbit that was, well, on the unattractive side of cute, Ugly Bunny Winery opened in 2017 and is a favorite gathering spot for both locals and out of towners. On the western edge of Amish Country, it sits amid rolling hills with its vineyard in full view of the front door. Its large sampling room and adjacent smaller TV room offer several options for indoor seating. Outdoor seating is on their spacious side deck at umbrella-covered picnic tables and under strings of outdoor lights. They regularly feature a steady calendar of live music from April through December.

Everything is done onsite: cultivation and growing of the grapes as well as the processing of the grapes into the reds and white they serve. I sampled their rosé named Tickled Pink, their dry red wine called 1814, and their best-selling sweet red wine called Down the Rabbit Hole. All of them were tasty and quite drinkable with my favorite being a toss-up between 1814 and Down the Rabbit Hole.

The 7 Best Wineries in Amish Country, Ohio

amish country winery

Visiting Amish Country provides a welcome reprieve from modern living. Here, you can enjoy simple pleasures, untainted landscapes, and the peace you crave.

The Amish provide a glimpse of simpler times, where home-cooked meals and an honest day’s work were the order of the day. In Berlin, you can enjoy this tranquil atmosphere, plus a host of wonderful activities suited to this rural environment.

Enjoying different types of wineries is one of the pleasures on offer. Start planning your trip with this guide to the best wineries in the area.

1. Baltic Mill Winery

Baltic Mill Winery opened in 2014 and occupies a three-story brick building in the heart of Baltic, Ohio.

The owners have preserved some of the building’s original equipment, which dates back to its days as a working flour mill. Together with the high beams and red brick walls, this contributes to the winery’s appealing rustic atmosphere.

Baltic Mill does not have vineyards and carefully sources grapes from the best wine-growing regions of the country. Their expert winemaker crafts these into 11 different types of sweet and dry wine, made from grapes, blackberries, and peaches.

The tasting room offers abundant seating both indoors and outdoors. Patrons can choose from delicious locally sourced meat and cheese plates or order food from nearby eateries to enjoy with their wine.

2. Breitenbach Wine Cellars

Ohio ranks sixth for  wine production  in the USA. Breitenbach Wine Cellars contributes 150,000 gallons of grape and fruit wine to this total annually, including award-winning plum wine and a robust port.

Der Marktplatz in Dover is where you can enjoy grape, berry, fruit, and dandelion wines at the inside tables, patio tables, or in the Winemaker’s Barn. A local Amish community provides the dandelions for this delicate brew.

Breitenbach Wine Cellars offers winery tours during their Dandelion May-Fest, held on the first Saturday of May every year.

The wine farm itself is a delight, comprising a small group of steeple-roofed buildings adorned in royal purple and red with gold accents and ornate detailing. The testing laboratory is shaped like a castle turret, adding the final element of magic to the fairy tale setting.

The Wine and Fire bar on site is a charming destination for sundowners and celebrations on the weekends.

3. Silver Moon Winery

In 2004, Ken and Judy Eschbacher started their wine journey from scratch, learning as they went along. After much trial and error, they finally settled on a winning formula and decided to share their experiences with other aspirant winemakers.

So, Silver Moon Winery started as a school teaching people how to make wine, but it has since become a full-fledged winery producing over 40 styles of wine.

It’s a homely place where you can learn more about wine while sipping on various blends under the expert tutelage of the vineyard staff. Silver Moon Winery makes white and red wines as well as desert wines with tantalizing names like Starry White and Chocolate Cherry Dream.

The venue offers plush leather chairs or small tables where you can relax and enjoy your new favorite wine. Don’t miss the chance to try their unique wine slushies during your visit.

4. Doughty Glen Winery

Due to its location just four miles from Berlin, it’s easy to include this winery in your  vacation itinerary . It’s located in one of the most scenic places in Ohio, overlooking the picturesque Doughty Valley.

The winery is adjacent to the Guggisberg Swiss Inn and Amish Country Riding Stables. You can enjoy wine tastings in the lobby of the inn, followed by a relaxing horseback ride to explore the countryside and a hearty meal.

The inn offers a gorgeous garden setting where you can sip on Doughty Glen wines and nibble on award-winning cheese while admiring the horses in the fields and the ducks in their pond.

This boutique winery currently offers only eight different wines, ranging from dry red and semi-dry whites to sweet, crisp strawberry wine.

5. Raven’s Glen Winery

Raven’s Glen Winery holds pride of place alongside the Tuscarawas River. Here, you can sip and savor sweet and dry wines, craft beers, and cocktails.

The full-service onsite restaurant is ideal for light meals, including pasta, flatbread, salads, and sandwiches. Raven’s Glen is the perfect spot for a romantic date or a tranquil break between  Amish Country activities .

Robert and Renee Guillams took over the winery from their son, Beau, who started the farm with 10 varietals in 1997. They’ve since narrowed their business down to specializing in the three best suited to this environment.

Their offering includes dry and sweet red and white wines and dessert wines.

6. Gervasi Vineyard

Gervasi Vineyard offers several delights on their 55-acre estate, including a spa, three restaurants, a coffee and cocktail bar, a bakery, and a winery.

The winery offers a full gamut of varietals, from dry reds to sweet whites, including the  acclaimed Sognata Ice Wine . They buy grapes and juice from around the country, taking care to choose specimens grown under optimal conditions.

A team of expert winemakers transforms these raw materials into a range of over 20 award-winning vines onsite at Gervasi Vineyard, where you can enjoy them in pristine surroundings on the edges of a small lake.

7. Swiss Heritage Winery

Swiss Heritage Winery is the latest addition to the Broad Run Cheesehouse, located just outside Sugarcreek. Don’t miss the chance to pair creamy Swiss and Baby Swiss cheeses with their selection of sweet-styled wines.

This quaint winery has a welcoming atmosphere and a lovely, secluded patio where you can sip on your chosen tipple and try some of the deli goodies on offer.

There is no better pairing than cheese and wine, so it was a natural progression for Broad Run Cheesehouse to expand into the wine business. After seven decades of operating a cheesehouse, Hans and Nancy Schindler opened Swiss Heritage Winery in 2002 as part of Broad Run Corner—at the gateway to Amish Country.

At the time there were only about 90 wineries in Ohio. Today that number has increased to more than 400. And Swiss Heritage Winery is one of the finest, where the wine making process is done on-site.

Today, second- and third-generation winemakers, Chad and Carson Schindler, oversee the wine production, which produces 20-plus varietals of wines, ranging from red, white and blush to sweet fruit wines.

OUR PROCESS

Ohio’s climate is especially conducive to grow grapes for sweeter wines, as the climate here is similar to Germany’s, where Rieslings are produce in abundance. In the Buckeye State white Vinifera grapes, in addition to Native American grapes, including Concord, Niagara and Catawba, are commonly grown. In addition to Ohio grapes, we source the best grapes from the best vineyards spanning across the country to California.

Our on-site wine making process includes many intricate steps:

We oversee the grape and fruit selection.

The juice from the grapes is checked for proper sugar content before we start the fermentation process, where the sugars are converted to alcohol.

During the fermentation process, we add yeast nutrients to the juices and additional sugar, if needed.

After the fermentation process (which takes two to eight weeks depending on type of grape), we let the wine settle for a week to rack off the juice from the lees (sediment), then add sulfites to protect wine from oxidation as well as other enzymes to help settle some of the solids.

The wine is filtered through a first-course filtration to clarify the wine and remove sediments.

Then for grape wines, we begin the cold stabilization process, which chills wine down to 30 degrees F for a period of time to ensure the wine is cold stable. Fruit wines do not require cold stabilization.

Some of the red wines are aged in oak barrels to pick up some oaky notes (typically a six-month process).

The final step we do in-house is bottle, cork and label each wine.

NOW THE WINE IS READY FOR YOU TO SWIRL, SNIFF, SIP AND SAVOR!

What our connoisseurs are saying, do you make your own wines.

Yes, we make our wines and bottle them on-site.

Can we sample different wines Hans’ Place?

We offer four- and six-glass flights in two-ounce pours so you can taste a variety of different wines. The flights come with seasoned crackers and pretzels.

In addition to wine tasting, do you have food?

Yes, Hans’ Place is a full-service restaurant with plenty of indoor seating, as well as outdoor seating, when weather permits.

Can I order wine and have it shipped?

Yes, we can ship our wine to any state where e-commerce of alcohol is allowed.

Wine down at these Amish Country Wineries

Visiting the best wineries of amish country, ohio.

When I was growing up in Millersburg, drinking alcohol was only for the “bad kids.” Cultural norms have changed and Amish Country has new establishments for those who enjoy a nice glass of beer or wine. Much of Holmes County is still “dry” and those townships are unable to serve alcoholic beverages, but visitors will still find places to wine and dine. Here is my list of the best wineries in Amish Country, Ohio.

Wineries near Millersburg, Ohio

Sunny slope winery.

A few years back, Tom and Tara Bright morphed the family’s Sunny Slope gas station into a winery! With fun choices like “Slap” – a sweet wine “that’s so good you’ll wanna slap ya mama,” this stop is famous with the locals for their good times and live music on weekends.

A deli is available, but weekend events will also bring food trucks to Sunny Slope. If you’re looking for a place to sit outside and enjoy some live music, check their Facebook page for events.

French Ridge Vineyards

The owners of French Ridge Vineyards are passionate about their craft. With acres and acres of grapes, they produce everything from dry reds to sweet whites.

Love to sleep among the vineyards? French Ridge Vineyards offers two cabin rentals for guests that aren’t quite ready to leave this picturesque location in southern Holmes County.

Ugly Bunny Winery

Ugly Bunny Winery is a great stop on the western edge of Holmes County near Loudonville. Here you’ll find plenty of red and white wines to taste and enjoy, as well as hard ciders and wine slushies.

Guests to the Ugly Bunny can also bring their appetite, as the menu offers appetizers, 12″ pizzas, and desserts like tiramisu. Check the Ugly Bunny Facebook page for hours and events.

If the weather is nice, opt for a flight out on the patio as you watch the buggies meander down Main Street.

Incredible Wineries In Amish Country Ohio That You Have To Try

Visiting any one of these wineries we have listed below is sure to knock your socks off.

Jan 21, 2021

It’s not so often that in today’s world we get a real good break from working or parenting or whatever it is that you do that takes up your time.

But when you do get some time off, maybe a weekend, or maybe just a few hours after dinner, gathering your family or friends together at a winery is one of the most relaxing and fun experiences you can have. We might even say that heading over to a winery is the best way to take a load off after a stressful week, month, or even year.

That’s why we’ve compiled a list for you of some great wineries in Amish Country in Ohio to give a try.

Guggisberg’s Doughty Glen Winery

Guggisberg’s Doughty Glen Winery

5025 State Route 557 | Millersburg, OH | doughtyglenwinery.com

Doughty Glen Winery specializes in pairing cheese with it’s perfect wine counterpart. Pairing cheese with wine can be an arduous and finicky process, but the story of this winery begins with a family of master cheesemakers so in terms of the cheese pairings, you’re in good hands.

If you’re interested in or purchasing any of their wines, head over to the Guggisberg Swiss Inn anytime from noon until 9pm, Monday through Saturday and you won’t be disappointed. Give their more classic Pinot Noir a taste, or get a little adventurous and try one of their fruit-forward strawberry or raspberry wines. No matter what you choose, be assured that you’ll be trying some real quality wine in a beautiful area.

While you sip your wine, you’re welcome to explore the Guggisberg Swiss Inn’s property. If you’re interested in trying or buying any of their cheese or chocolate as well, head over to the Guggisberg Swiss Inn and they’ll be happy to assist you in choosing the best cheese or chocolate pairing with whatever wine you’re interested in.

In addition to the winery and the chocolate and cheese options, Guggisberg Winery is a part of the aforementioned Guggisberg Swiss Inn. So if you want your trip to the winery to include an overnight stay or even a whole weekend away, the Guggisberg Swiss Inn might just be the way to go.

Although you may want to, there is plenty more to do at the inn that isn’t sampling or or even gulping down some wines. Part of the Guggisberg Swiss Inn is the surrounding area, not just the building you’d stay in.

The area has a duck pond, open areas to stroll about, and horse stables with the option of horseback riding. The Inn also usually lets horses walk around the property freely.

We just can’t think of a more perfect getaway than a wine tasting while you watch horses roam about or take to the duck pond watch the ducks and little ducklings do their own thing.

Michelle S. had a great time during her stay, so much so that she gave the winery five stars!

“Wonderful atmosphere! Loved the ducks and horses and donkey in the background . The wine and sangria were delicious . The Amish were there with fire roasted pizza and pulled pork - both were so good ! Will stay at the inn next time.” - Yelp review

Breitenbach Wine Cellars

Breitenbach Wine Cellars

5934 Old Route 39 Northwest | Dover, OH | breitenbachwine.com

Have you ever heard of Dandelion wine? We hadn’t either until we checked up on Breitenbach Wine Cellars who, along with grape, fruit, and berry wine, offer dandelion wine as well.

If you’re curious about how dandelion wine is made, (we definitely are) the first Saturday of May, Breitenbach Wine has a dandelion May-Fest which includes a tour of the whole winery as well, not just the part that makes the dandelion wine.

Breiteenbach has many different events that it holds on its property but the most popular and unique is undoubtedly May-Fest. May-Fest isn’t just fun for the adults either - the Dandelion Festival will have “live music, a dandelion picking contest for the kids, and the Great Dandelion Cook-off”.

Apart from the dandelion wine, there are 40 varieties of wines that Breitenbach offers. If you feel like sampling a few of those varieties, take a trip over to their cafe. Give a few of their wines a taste and then pair it with a fresh salad and one of their wood-fired pizzas made in an authentic brick oven.

You can also taste some wines at their gift shop, but we really recommend going on the full wine tour if you can get the chance. From the picture of the Breitenbach Wine property above though, we can see why you’d want to spend some time out on the patio relaxing and eating some fresh, delicious food.

"They have one of the most amazing flavor wines out there. If you have never tasted or heard of dandelion wine now is the time to go and get it they have a dandelion Festival that I really want to go to and plan on going to next year." - Yelp Review

French Ridge Vineyards

Image result for french ridge vineyards

2586 Township Road 34 | Killbuck, OH | frenchvineyards.com

French Ridge Vineyards is a homegrown, authentic vineyard that’s perfect if you’re looking for a quiet, more subdued getaway. All of the wine that French Ridge Vineyards sells is made from the grapes that they grow. From those grapes, French Ridge Vineyards sells 14 different wines , each with a distinct flavor profile that are sure to impress.

When visiting French Ridge Vineyards, you will have the option to go on a vineyard tour. On the tour, your guide will take you through the rows of their grapes, explain some of the types of grapes, their characteristics, and what they do with each type of grape.

During the right months, they’ll even encourage you to take some of the grapes directly from the vine and give them a try. This really isn’t something that you see very often at a normal wine tour. It’s an awesome opportunity to understand exactly what goes into certain wines and why they taste the way that they do.

Going on a specialized vineyard tour like this can deepen your understanding of wine and might even lead you to trying a new type of wine that you’ll fall in love with!

If your plan is to not only sample some wines and take a vineyard tour, but also to stay overnight or over a few nights, French Ridge Vineyards offers a rustic cabin that you and one other person can stay in.

The cabins have a private deck that overlooks the vineyard, and the cabin booking comes with a free wine tasting session.

Baltic Mill Winery

Baltic Mill Winery

111 East Main St | Baltic, OH | balticmillwinery.com

Baltic Mill Winery’s main floor is positively stunning. It’s a perfect atmosphere for a casual wine tasting, which is exactly what you could be doing there. While the main floor is amazing, just downstairs in the cellar is actually where Baltic Mill Winery makes all of their wine.

So while you’re upstairs trying to calculate how many wine samples add up to one drink, the owner, Dan Garver, and his son, Matt, are down in the cellar crafting the delicious wine that you’ll be tasting.

Once you get to the Baltic Mill Winery (after scheduling a wine tasting, of course) and have a seat in the main floor with the impeccable ambiance, you can start with that wine tasting you’ve been waiting for.

Although all their wines are tasty and unique in their own way, their sweet wines are what they’re really known for. From their “Just Peachy” wine to the very popular Blackberry wine, Baltic Mill Winery knows what they’re doing, especially when it comes to the sweet stuff.

At Baltic Mill Winery, the centerpiece of your time there is 100% the wine, even to the point that the only food they offer are meat and cheese plates and a hummus and vegetable plate. Those might be some appropriate accoutrements to a wine tasting, the people at Baltic Mill Winery understand that you may want something more than just meat and cheese.

That’s why they allow any customer to bring their own food into the main area. They may even try to help you pair whatever food you bring with a specific wine!

If your plan is to get a larger group together for a wine tasting there is an option to rent a separate room that can hold either up to 40 people or up to 80 people. If you think you need more space than that - give the winery call and we’re sure they’ll help you to the best of their ability.

If for whatever reason you can’t make it out to the Baltic Mill Winery, there are a few locations where you can pick up one of their bottles, or you can buy some online .

If you’re a big fan of sweet wine, you won’t want to miss out on visiting the Baltic Mill Winery.

Baltic Mill Winery is sitting pretty at a five-star average on Yelp, and we think Kristen G sums up the general sentiment of everyone who wrote a review as she says that this winery is an,

“Absolutely amazing little gem just off the main drag in Baltic!  The building, the wines, and the staff are all incredible.  What this family has done with this former flour mill is unique and eclectic.  Well worth your time and money!” - Yelp Review

Sunny Slope Winery

Sunny Slope Winery

12251 OH-39 | Big Prairie, OH | sunnyslopewinery.com

Sunny Slopes Winery has a little bit of a different atmosphere as compared to the other wineries on this list. If you’re into a more upbeat, rambunctious sort of night, Sunny Slopes Winery might be the best winery in Amish country for you.

The ambiance is light, bubbly, and all around just fun. Nothing too serious, just some good times with some great wine. Speaking of their wine, it’s all made in small batches but they still manage to have an awesome variety .

Sunny Slopes Winery has all the basics that you’ve had before, but they’ve also got some seasonal twists that’ll knock your socks off. Pretty much any fruit that you think would make an interesting and robust wine is on their list depending on the season.

Something else that sets this spot apart from a lot of wineries, is that it’s also a deli. We know, sounds strange but… why not, right? They’ve got soups, cold and warm sandwiches, and some small snacks like vegetables and hummus. SO, for all you folks out there who go to a winery, taste the wine and think, “this is good, but where’s my reuben sandwich?” this is the place for you.

To be clear, we’re not recommending that you pair one of Sunny Slopes Winery’s inventive wines with a reuben sandwich, we’re just saying that it’s an option. When in Rome right?

"Great spot in the country!  Fantastic hosts & delicious wine.  Grab a deli sammich and kick back to enjoy an afternoon or evening.  Top notch entertainment always sure to please on Fri & Sat.  So much FUN!" - Yelp review

Coblentz Country Cabins are located in Berlin, not far from Donna’s! The charming standalone log cabins are a perfect romantic getaway, complete with cozy fireplaces and two-person jetted tubs. Coblentz has numerous cabins, but for couples, the Briarwood Cabin and Dogwood Log Cabin sleep two. The Dogwood Cabin is our favorite, with a 2-person jetted tub, huge stone fireplace, king-size bed, and outdoor charcoal grill.

Snuggle up in front of the living room fireplace or get cozy in the two-person whirlpool tub. Each cabin also comes with a comfy king-size bed and a fully stocked snack bar, so guests don’t have to let hunger pangs interrupt their romantic retreat.

Visitors won’t be in the heart of Amish Country, OH, here, but Millersburg is just a 40-minute drive from Dansville, where the White Oak Inn is located. Plus, it’s great for couples that like going on adventures. Dansville is less than 90 minutes from Columbus, with attractions like the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens , Colombus Zoo and Aquarium , escape rooms, and upcoming events like Disney on Ice, professional hockey, or concerts at Nationwide Arena .

Sunset Ridge Log Cabins

Sunset Ridge is often called “the one with a view” because of its location high on the hillside and, of course, the view. Looking around the photo gallery, it’s clear that no matter the season, the view will be a part of the memory. There are three cabins at Sunset Ridge, each of them designed to sleep two and inspire romance. Each cabin has a propane fireplace, outdoor charcoal grill and fire pit, and a Jacuzzi on a covered back porch. What better way to enjoy the spectacular view than to take it in from the Jacuzzi, glass of wine in hand?

When lovebirds aren’t wrapped up in each other, they can enjoy local wine in the outdoor hot tub.

Sunset Ridge Cabins are also a great choice for couples who enjoy outdoor adventures, scenic drives, and beautiful surroundings. It’s a short drive to Honey Run Highlands Park and the Bridge of Dreams . Visitors can also spend a full day exploring Wolf Run Regional Park to the west or head north to Mohican State Park .

Tranquil Acres Cabins

Tranquil Acres has several private log cabins in the perfect place to kick off a romantic weekend. For couples that want to enjoy a hot tub, we recommend the Cozy Bear and Cozy Pine cabins. Plus, these cabins have a bedroom on the first floor for more room and a gas fireplace.

We also love the Sleepy Bear Cabin for older couples, especially those without a lot of mobility. There is a single step going into the cabin with a single-floor layout, a fireplace, and a 2-person Whirlpool tub, a standard feature in most Tranquil Acres Cabins.
