Updated review from my 1997 review LMAO. Yes I still own it. In 2016 I found a Marzocchi bomber 80mm fork to put on it (scrapping the now worn out Judy XC), new cables, and repainted it. 27 years and God knows how many miles and guess what? The frame is still solid as are the Mavic 217s/XTR hubs I put on there in 1996. It's been ridden in the most technial trails in Pisgah (Black Mountain, Heartbreak Ridge, Kistuma), in the swamps of Louisiana, and lots of other places in between. I'm over 6'3" and 200 lbs and ride a L size with lots of seatpost showing. Never had a crack or any issues with the frame. The original 2 tone paint eventually succumbed to multiple chips from drops, storage, and crashes. I just rode it last weekend in fact -- the looks I get when I ride it lol. I still enjoy the old-school geometry, light weight, and sharp handling once in a while. I can get pretty close to my PRs on my newer FS Trek Top Fuel on the old gal. When you pass somebody on a new 29er on this thing they notice. Trek bonded aluminum frames are the shit! Made in USA baby!

Other than weak stock seatpost, bottom bracket, and tires/wheels not a single thing.

Lol its 2011 and I still ride mine. One shifter broke and I have replaced the grips tires and wheels thats it. Of course I have a full suspension as this full rigid is impossible to ride fast on very rough/rocky terrain. Doesnt mean you cannot ride it on rough terrain you just wont be able to keep up with suspension bikes and it will beat the hell out of you. But when I bought it new in the early 90's there were no suspension bikes and mt. biking was very very new to the mainstream. I laugh when I think of the things I rode with this using traps - too many scars to count. now I use it as a backup bike or road bike. You can still do well on anything but rought rooty or rocky single track for sure. I just like the history and btw almost all the original stuff works like a champ. Bought it in August of 1995 I believe. Went to get a 930, but there was a shortage so they said, 'Take the 7000(orig $800) for the 930's price'. It was my first MTB in High school, rode it pretty heavily then and in College. So for the 5 years I consistently rode it, it performed well and never really complained about anything, besides an occasional creaking from the bottom bracket/frame area. I soon replaced the stock cranks which were Exage 48/38/28 I believe, with a set of LX cranks 42/32/22 & bottom bracket. With them a set of SPD's and I threw on the Psycho-k's. Between the pedals and the cranks, it was a different bike. Though I've barely ridden it in about 8 yrs, since getting married,kids, and moving, I had considered buying a newer Specialized stumpjumper or Gary Fisher Sugar. But I have this 7000 and don't want to part with it. So I may just refresh it, new tires, brakes, front suspension. Germany has an abundance of places to ride, and i'd like to take advantage of it this season.

I owned the Trek 7000 until a few months ago when I had to sell it because I moved. I don't know exactly what year it was, but I know it was from around 1992-94 or something. I really miss this bike because it was extremely light and strong. It was a fully ridgid bike w/ no suspension. I purchased it for $150 from my next door neighbor in the dorms and I got a steal on this bike!

Light, strong, functional components, and reasonable price for the money. Strong rims that stay true ride after ride.

Needs better shock, shifters, and brakes than what comes with it.

This should be the last bike I will ever buy. It's light, stiff, and handles like a dream. Good mid-range bike. But the components could be upgraded to full XT or better.

Is The Trek 7000 A Good Mountain Bike? [REVIEW]

The Trek 7000 from 1991 has a 3X7 drivetrain. The 2000 Trek 7000, on the other hand, has been upgraded to 3X9. More gears equals a greater range of shifting. It’s not just for mountain biking.

The smallest rear gear is an 11-tooth pinion, and the flywheel’s 22-tooth gears work in tandem, making it ideal for steep hills, and the ride is fast thanks to a 2x transmission ratio.

Alloy cable pull brake (3.5/5)

I’m not a fan of this type of brake, but I understand that it’s a 20-year-old design. After puddle riding, the Trek 7000’s brakes increase the braking distance. Large downhill brakes necessitate more braking force.

The power provided by your hands determines the effectiveness of your braking. It’s not very convenient, but the construction is low-cost and the braking effect is adequate.

It is still recommended that you upgrade to disc brakes, which does not come cheap, but the improved riding experience is well worth it.

The width of the front and rear tires on the Trek 7000 differs slightly, front: 26 x 2.10″ Bontrager Jones AC, rear: 26 x 2.00″ Bontrager Jones AC, because the front tires provide enough grip during descents with the brakes.

nvm moscow throttle

Finding my (electric) wheels

hi everyone, im new to the forum and have come with a question about the ncm moscow, i have owned the bike for over a year now and seen that the moscow plus has a throttle fitted to it, does anyone know if its possible to fit one to the normal moscow and if so where to purchase what i need in the uk as i cannot find anything about it at all. thank you

i will get some pictures tomorrow, i know its a sealed unit and one wire goes to the pedal crank and another goes away inside the frame

All I see is a BB shell with two cables running under it.  

its a sealed unit fixed to the frame, there is no way of getting into it i dont think  

In that case then a throttle can't be retrofitted if there isn't an unused three wire connection.  

The Oxygen ST uses a similar frame which is likely a generic China/Taiwan frame utilised by other companies with different components and motor kits, the Oxygen is throttle capable.

An lcd won't enable you to fit a throttle, you need a controller with the wired out put for one as well as the PAS out put. One can't be used for the other.

At a price....!!!! Possibly the motor available in the US has more power, but I suspect the rest is just firmware tuning. You've probably noticed the flash screens you get on switching on, include one that says EU300 or something which I take to be an EU compliant firmware version.

I was luckier than you with Leon and they provided a few pass codes to try. 8018 worked for me, accessed after pressing the + & - keys together for a few seconds. Difficult to describe but pretty intuitive! This allows changing the voltage (if you really want), the wheel diameter and power which essentially limits the current supply. I have found little different between the “turbo” & normal, but “eco” limited the current indicated to 5 bars rather than 6 and made hill-climbing more demanding on the rider. If you change anything remember to press the + & - buttons together to save the changes and return to the standard screen.
