Billy Idol reschedules 2022 UK and European tour due to “health challenges”

"While my recovery is almost complete, I have been given doctor’s orders to stay off the road until August"

Billy Idol

Bill Idol has rescheduled his upcoming ‘Roadside Tour’ dates from June and July to September and October 2022.

The tour, which was announced back in September , was to include “new music, a stack of timeless classics and his long-time lead guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens”. It would also mark Idol’s first UK dates since 2018.

As a result of “health challenges”, the artist has moved the dates to later in the year, writing on Facebook: “As many of you know, this year has dealt me some health challenges which are nearly, but not quite resolved.

“While my recovery is almost complete, I have been given doctor’s orders to stay off the road until August – and so it is with great frustration that we must reschedule The Roadside Tour dates in the UK and Europe from June and July to September and October of this year.”

Idol’s arena shows in Manchester, Cardiff, London, Glasgow, Birmingham and Leeds will now take place in October, with European dates starting on September 23.

The Go-Go ’s were originally announced as the main support act on all six UK dates but they will now be replaced by Television .

Idol said: “Sadly, The Go-Go’s are no longer able to join us in the UK. I wish them the best and hope we can play together in the future.

“I am thrilled that now opening all UK shows will be Television, one of my favourite bands from the original New York punk scene and an inspiration to me throughout my career. I will be honoured to share the stage with them and hope everyone will come early to enjoy their set.”

Original tickets will be valid for the new dates, which you can see below, and you can buy any remaining tickets here .

Speaking about his latest EP ‘The Roadside’, Idol said: “It seemed quite logical and natural to write something about my motorcycle accident. I may have been saying, ‘Well, this is what people go through when they are in trouble’. I think I was unconsciously making that connection.

“Certainly, the motorcycle accident was the catharsis, the wake-up moment. Maybe I left behind the irreverent, youthful Billy and opened the door for a more attentive father and more sensitive musician. Something did get left by the roadside, but it was not necessarily a bad thing in the end.”

RESCHEDULED DATE

REVISED DATES FOR:

THE ROADSIDE TOUR 2022

The world’s favourite rebel Billy Idol has rescheduled The Roadside Tour 2022 with new dates now set for October 2022 . All existing tickets are still valid for the revised dates.

Says Billy Idol: “As many of you know, this year has dealt me some health challenges which are nearly, but not quite resolved. While my recovery is almost complete, I have been given doctor’s orders to stay off the road until August - and so it is with great frustration that we must reschedule the UK Tour for October of this year. Thank you for everyone’s understanding and support. These shows will be worth the wait!”

Billy will come to the UK with new music and a stack of timeless classics. For his first appearances in the UK since 2018, Billy will play 6 Arena shows with the rescheduled dates listed below.

Killing Joke are delighted to be announced as special guests for the tour, after Television were forced to make a late withdrawal, alongside Billy’s other tour guest Toyah .

The global lockdown of 2020 gave Billy time to reflect and thoughts turned to his near-fatal motorcycle accident of 1990, how he dealt with it and how it related to the current crisis. “ I t seemed quite logical and natural to write something about my motorcycle accident ,” he says. “ I may have been saying, well, this is what people go through when they are in trouble. I think I was unconsciously making that connection .

“ Certainly, the motorcycle accident was the catharsis, the wake-up moment. A little bit of me got left by the side of that road. Maybe I left behind the irreverent, youthful Billy and opened the door for a more attentive father and more sensitive musician. Something did get left by the roadside, but it was not necessarily a bad thing in the end .”

Billy’s reflections are captured in the lyrics of Bitter Taste , one of four tracks on his 2021 EP The Roadside , which was his first new music for seven years and as hard-hitting and relevant as ever.

Billy’s touring band features his long-time guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens along with Stephen McGrath (bass, backing vocals), Billy Morrison (guitar, backing vocals), Paul Trudeau (keyboards, backing vocals) and drummer Erik Eldenius.

Billy Idol’s Roadside UK Tour 2022 has not been an easy ride getting, with the singer’s own health resulting in the dates having to be rescheduled from June to October, but those of special guests on the tour also, but with a rebel yell, fans will be shouting from the rooftops that the tour is still going ahead as of Thursday 13th in Manchester.

Idol will be returning to the UK with new music and a stack of timeless classics. For his first appearances in the UK since 2018, he will play six arena shows with the rescheduled dates listed below.

Discussing the reasons behind the seasonal tour date changes, Billy Idol explained: “As many of you know, this year has dealt me some health challenges which are nearly, but not quite resolved.” Continuing he said, “While my recovery is almost complete, I have been given doctor’s orders to stay off the road until August – and so it is with great frustration that we must reschedule the UK Tour for October of this year. Thank you for everyone’s understanding and support. These shows will be worth the wait!”

The Roadside UK Tour was never about skimping on all-round entertainment either. The Go-Go’s were orginally announced as tour special guests, but were unable to commit to the dates changes, and legendary US band Television were announced alongside the iconic character that is Toyah Wilcox, and things just seemed to get better, only for things to go awry once more, with Tom Verlaine’s band having to announce: “Unfortunately due to illness, we have to cancel the forthcoming UK tour with Billy Idol. We send our deepest apologies to any fans who have bought tickets.“

Fortunately, Idol appears to have a sterlingly professional team surrounding him, for in the same breadth as that bad news they reclaim glory for the tour with the announcement that the mighty Killing Joke have stepped up to the mark and will be on board for the tour.

“Just when you think it’s all over, I’d been missing my brothers in Killing Joke and then this opportunity came up,” remarked the band’s frontman Jaz Coleman, adding “Looking forward to seeing everyone next week, one day’s rehearsal and a secret gig somewhere in the U.K. Lets get stuck in.”

“We’re looking forward to having Killing Joke and Toyah join us in the UK,” said Idol. “This is going to be an epic show!”

Killing Joke emerged in the post-punk early 1980s, their eponymous debut album exhibiting funky heavy rock influences before electronic and synth-pop styles also filtered through their music. They would, in turn, influence later generations including Metallica , Nirvana and Soundgarden .

‘Love Like Blood ‘   would give Killing Joke their greatest commercial success, a hit across Europe, peaking at #16 in the UK singles chart in 1985. Jaz Coleman (vocals, keyboards) and Geordie Walker (guitar) have been ever-constant members of the line-up and have been reunited with fellow founder members Paul Ferguson (drums) and Youth (bass guitar) since 2008.

Furthering her acting career by leaving her native Birmingham for London and enjoyed a parallel musical career fronting her own band, Toyah Wilcox began to establish herself as a solo artist. She had three UK Top Ten hits with  ‘It’s A Mystery ‘, ‘ I Want To Be  Free’ and ‘ Thunder In The Mountains ‘ and won Best Female Singer in the 1982 British Rock & Pop Awards, that later went on to become The Brits.Wilcox’s hit albums include the 2021 top 25-charting Posh Pop , The Changeling and the gold-selling Anthem (a remastered reissue due in September 2022).

Along with husband Robert Fripp, Wilcox has scored over 110 million of hits on YouTube with their racey  Sunday Lunch   series of weekly musical shorts.

“I am thrilled to be opening for Billy Idol on The Roadside Tour,” Wilcox said excitedly. “Billy is an icon whose music has thrilled millions worldwide and continues to do so. Billy has created a style of rock that has gone on to inspire generation after generation. ‘Rebel Yell’ , ‘White Wedding’ and ‘Mony Mony’ are up there with the all-time greats.

Returning back to the headline act, the global lockdown of 2020 gave Idol time to reflect and thoughts turned to his near-fatal motorcycle accident of 1990, how he dealt with it and how it related to the current crisis. “It seemed quite logical and natural to write something about my motorcycle accident,” he said. “I may have been saying, well, this is what people go through when they are in trouble. Chris Evans and Billy Idol at Virgin Radio

The multi-platinum-selling rock icon joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky to talk about his first new record in seven years, about 2022's UK tour, and about the early days of his career.

Billy told Chris: “I’ve got a record out, The Roadside, it’s doing quite well, and we’re also playing next summer with The Go-Go's. We’re playing Wembley Arena. So, it’s all looking up. It’s exciting!”

Tickets for Billy’s Roadside Tour went on sale this morning (September 30th) at 9am. The six-date arena tour will see support from The Go-Go’s, who will be making their first UK appearance for 26 years. Billy said: “I’ve known them for years really, way back from the early ‘80s, so one way or another we’ve known each other just forever. So it’s kinda fantastic, and it’s just a great bill, really.”

Whilst fans in the UK will have to wait until next year to see Billy play live, he has recently been performing again in the US, where he is based. He told Chris: “I virtually do the same stage act I’ve always done. I’ve got the same band, (guitarist) Steve Stevens and everything, so it’s not so different. There were even screaming girls the other night. I couldn’t believe it! They’re 45, but they’re screaming, so it’s okay! I’m enjoying it!”

When Chris asked about how the 65-year-old keeps in shape, Billy responded: “I think, to be a singer and everything, you have to be fit, you know, because you are the instrument, so I really do take care of myself. I do pilates and TRX, and things that will strengthen me inside, and you can use all of it to power your voice. So, it helps to be fit.”

During their conversation, Billy took Chris back to the early days of his career. “We were all very much into music, the Bromley contingent, and Siouxsie was part of it... Steve Severin,” he said. “I was nearly in The Banshees for a second, but I just wasn’t a good enough guitar player, they needed someone great, you know? So, then I got with Tony James and we did Generation X.”

In March 1981, Billy went to the States. He explained: “I just thought I had to stick to my guns and go there, and see what was going to happen. It was a scary thing, and I had to say to myself, ‘I’m not coming back to England for a year, whatever happens.’ And then a year went by, and I stayed.”

Billy is widely recognised as one of the first MTV megastars, and has since gone on to sell millions of albums on both sides of the pond. He said: “I actually had an American manager, Bill Aucoin, who managed KISS, and he’d worked in television, and so he knew the cable world, and he knew in 1970, 1980, that MTV was around the corner and that I’d be perfect for it, so it was just a matter of, once we made some good songs, just getting on MTV really.

“We did have a bit of a problem with the radio, the new artists, because it was such a lockout for the 70s, but then MTV was such a great platform and it just broke everything down, and the next minute we’re on the radio, and, boom, everything just took off.”

Whilst success came quickly after the MTV exposure, Billy told Chris that, overall, his route to success was gradual. “It really was,” he said. “It was these certain steps, playing clubs, then things getting on MTV, that really shook things up, the videos with the music, and then the next minute, in the Rebel Yell tour, we went from clubs to theatres to arenas in ten months, so it kinda exploded, but it did take a little bit of time, which was good, because we got time to really sort of nail down what the Billy Idol thing was. By Rebel Yell we really nailed it down.”

When looking back at singing live with Generation X, Billy said: “I couldn’t really sing. But that was the great thing about punk, it kinda gave you the chance, and over the years I’ve worked it, and I think I’ve ended up with something. It’s recognisable for a start, that’s a big factor in music.

“We spent quite a long time on the road in the early 2000’s onwards and I think, just over time, I’ve developed a lot better than I was when I first started out. But there you go, you stick at the thing you love and it comes though. It just shows, you’ve got to stick at it.”

The artist has scored multiple top 10s, including White Wedding and Mony Mony, and has garnered several platinum and gold certifications. On the longevity of his career, Billy said: “When we initially started out, we just really didn’t think it was going to go on forever. I thought six months, a year, maybe two years, and then... kaboom, it just went massive, and here we are 45 years later.”

Returning to the present day, Billy spoke excitedly about his new EP, which confronts death, rebirth and his personal growth since his near-fatal 1990 motorcycle accident. “We were writing the EP, kinda May, June 2020, so the pandemic was fairly new,” he explained. “I could see all of the kind of confusion and problems that were going on, and the pain some people were going through. I thought it was a bit soon to try and write a pandemic song, but I thought, ‘What could I write about that will be something people can identify with?’ And I thought about when I went through a painful, horrible motorcycle accident, where I had many operations and I didn’t quite know what was going to happen to my future. Was I going to keep my leg? Was I not going to keep my leg? I thought maybe if I write about that, that would give me something that people can identify as going through a rough time but coming through it, really, being able to say you came through.”

And on the future, Billy said: “The thing is, Steve Stevens, as a guitar player, is getting better. And I think if we carry on making this quality of music we’re making, I think, you know, you can carry on and enjoy it, really. So, yeah, it’s great playing the classic stuff, but we do need the life-blood of some new music, and I think we’ve got that with this EP. We’ve worked with some really great people, and collaborated with some great songwriters and producers, and I think it’s come out really well.”

The artist added: “It took a bit of time to find these people and get this kind of combination right, but I think we’ve done it.”

It’s King Rocker’s tour as Billy Idol makes his first live appearance here for four years but the support acts here make for an interesting sounding evening – though what Billy’s audience will make of a full album run-through of Television’s classic Marquee Moon is a mystery. I saw them play in a small venue and love Tom Verlaine’s playing but never pictured them on this tour. Toyah’s star is back in the ascendant with her lockdown videos with husband Robert Fripp, showing a spirit of fun and the occasional nipple.

Here’s the details:

Billy Idol is delighted to announce that Toyah will be joining the UK dates in October of The Roadside Tour 2022, alongside very special guest, Television.   Billy will be heading out with some new music and a stack of timeless classics for his first appearances in the UK since 2018 and will play 6 Arena dates. Tickets are available from www.aegpresents.co.uk/billy-idol .

“We’re looking forward to having Toyah join us in the UK,” said Billy. “This is the final piece in what is going to be an epic show!”

“ I am thrilled to be opening for Billy Idol on The Roadside Tour,” an excited Toyah commented. “Billy is an icon whose music has thrilled millions worldwide and continues to do so. Billy has created a style of rock that has gone on to inspire generation after generation. ‘Rebel Yell, ‘White Wedding’ and ‘Mony Mony’ are up there with the all-time greats.

“ I can’t wait to start the tour and I am excited to be included in the fabulous line up alongside Television who made one of the first albums I ever bought. ”

Billy Idol’s very special guests are Television featuring Tom Verlaine. Television will be performing their seminal debut album Marquee Moon in full.

Billy’s touring band features his long-time guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens along with Stephen McGrath (bass, backing vocals), Billy Morrison (guitar, backing vocals), Paul Trudeau (keyboards, backing vocals) and drummer Erik Eldenius.

About Billy Idol

For forty-five years, Billy Idol has been one of the   faces and voices of rock’n’roll, with an artistic resume to match the brilliant light of the image. First as the camera-ready front man for Generation X, between 1977 and 1981 Idol emerged with three albums that made positivity, emotional depth, and high pop synonymous with punk rock. In 1982, Idol embarked on a remarkable transatlantic/trans-genre solo career that integrated clubland throb, wide-screen depth and drama, rockabilly desperation, the bold and simple lines of punk, and rock’n’roll decadence.

Embracing the new MTV music channel, videos for White Wedding, Rebel Yell and Eyes Without A Face established Idol as one of the iconic performers of his generation, a position he still holds today.

About Television

Formed in New York’s East Village in 1973, Television’s influence was felt worldwide with a particularly major effect on British post-punk rock as well as American indie rock.

Television’s debut album Marquee Moon, released in February 1977, was hailed by critics as one of the most striking and original recording debuts in years. The scissory, cascading guitar lines, the jabbing vocals, and the ‘psychotic calypso’ drumming demonstrated that there was nothing punky or muddled about Television — it had the silvery clarity of a poised knife.

Marquee Moon was ranked #128 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It was also ranked #2 on Uncut magazine’s 100 Greatest Debut Records, and #3 on Pitchfork Media’s list of the best albums of the 1970s.

About Toyah

In furthering an acting career, Toyah left her native Birmingham for London and enjoyed a parallel musical career fronting her band, named Toyah, before establishing herself as a solo artist. Toyah had three UK Top Ten hits with   It’s A Mystery, I Want To Be   Free and Thunder In The Mountains   and won Best Female Singer in the 1982 British Rock & Pop Awards, that later went on to become The Brits.

Her hit albums include the 2021 top 25-charting “Posh Pop”, The Changeling and the gold-selling “Anthem” which receives a remastered reissue in September 2022. Along with husband Robert Fripp, the couple have scored over 110 million of hits on YouTube with their racey Sunday Lunch series of weekly musical shorts.

The Upcoming

Billy Idol at Wembley Arena

billy idol uk tour support act

Flesh for Fantasy, Bitter Taste

Punk icon Billy Idol returns to London with his six-day UK tour. Performing hit singles alongside new material, the British-born American rebel, now 66, is energetic on stage, and shows no sign of slowing down.

The 12,500 capacity of Wembley Arena is all seated tonight, but surprisingly not sold-out, the back section curtained off. This plays a big part in the acoustics of the show, proving an issue throughout; the sound is turned up to full volume, coming across screechy even for those sat at the back. It is worth stating that the lighting is phenomenal, and definitely helps create the energy that is, at times, lacking in the audience; having screens would also have improved the experience a lot. Nonetheless, it is clear Idol and his signature growl are on top form.

As the red curtain reveals the singer and his band, the backdrop is incredibly theatrical, with a metropolis and “Idol” in huge dominant letters. Generation X number Dancing with Myself sets things off, the singer overjoyed to be in his hometown. Transporting us to the early 90s, he plays Cradle of Love , from fourth studio album Charmed Life , followed by the hit single and early highlight, Flesh for Fantasy , which is a favourite with the crowd. Guitar virtuoso Steve Stevens shows his amazing skills as he takes the solo, while Idol performs open-shirted, keeping with his rebellious flirtatious attitude.

The MTV star also humbly confides in the audience between tracks, remembering how he sadly could not attend his mother’s funeral during the pandemic – something many can relate to – before playing new single Cage , full of his signature raging energy. Idol has had a long and varied musical career, which is reflected in Speed , from the eponymous Keanu Reeves blockbuster. Taking things down a notch, the icon prefaces Bitter Taste with memories of his motorbike accident, which he describes as being “the most horrible, painful time in my life”. It is his resilience together with his gentleness that makes him truly one of the greats of modern music: he doesn’t have a façade and is relatable. The track is a Country-infused melody simultaneously recalling Johnny Cash and Chris Isaac, and another high point. Incorporating husky harmonies from Stephen McCgrath on backing vocals and an awe-inspiring, show-stopping solo from Stevens, Eyes Without a Face is filled with heartfelt yearning.

Another absolute gem is the Top Gun theme (a welcome surprise), as well as some flamenco-style guitar by Stevens on White Wedding , with Idol dedicating the performance to his sister in the audience – a moving gesture that ends the night on a high.

Your Sydney show was absolutely breathtaking, you smashed it vocally, you still have incredible sex appeal, Steve was better than ever as was your band, your drummer worked his arms off. It was the best day so far of 2020 for me as I did the trip from the South Coast where I'm a wildlife carer for 18 years, taking a day off from filling up food and water stations at a wildlife sanctuary that was completely destroyed, while still doing search and rescue in the National Park which is still closed it was a nice change. You look incredible for 64 years of age, I wish I could have got a meet and greet package, as I have a beautiful wombat keyring that I wanted to give to you. I am halfway through your book, I don't want to put it down but have to attend rescues and wildlife. I follow your tours on Youtube and I kind of new what to expect, but I was wrong, it was better than Youtube, the connection with your fans was mesmerizing, I first saw you in 1984? at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and you are as good now as you were then, only you have much more new songs. Your tribute to your father was very touching and I'd like to thank you for sharing that with your fans, I love all your albums, Kings and Queens is just my favourite, but then so is Devils Playground, and Whiplash Smile, and Charmed Life.. well all of them really, but your music gets better and better with age, I can't wait till your next album. Keep on Rocking Billy Fucking Idol... Legend.. Kind or Rock and Roll... Your number 1 Fan.. Georgia Gowanloch (Australia)

Another fantastic performance from Billy Idol, Steve Stevens and the boys, full of energy, great playing and fab tunes. Unreserved seating upstairs at the O2 Brixton leaves a bit to be desired, even if only 7 or 8 rows back there are lots of restrictive views due to positioning of cameramen, railings and audience who think it’s ok to jump up and down in front of you despite there being no standing allowed. Appreciate everyone wants to jump around and dance to Billy but would have preferred to take my chances on floor standing and jumped around with them but still loved the gig. Preferred seeing him at Hammersmith.

Everything was amazing! From valet parking, to easy wait to get in, all employees were professional and Billy exceeded expectations! Looks and sounds better in person! My 17 year old son had the best time also, even met some great people who are now friends! Waited less than 5 minutes for our car and on the road back to Columbus with less than 10 mins of traffic as we left. Grateful for all the folks who clean the floors, served us to Billy and his road crew make it all happen on stage! Takes a lot of people and they all did their part! Safe travels and if you can, Billy is a not miss concert! Thanks Billy for doing it like it is the first time!

Liam Gallagher announces support acts for Definitely Maybe 30th anniversary UK tour

Two bands are hitting the road with Liam

Liam Gallagher has revealed the two bands he’s taking on the road with him on his Definitely Maybe 30th anniversary UK & Ireland tour next June.

Liverpool indie icons Cast will open proceedings in Sheffield, Cardiff, both nights in Dublin, two of the four nights in London, and all four Manchester shows.

Cast said: "We're delighted to announce that we will be supporting Liam Gallagher at select dates across the UK on his Definitely Maybe 30 years tour, alongside the release of our new album 'Love Is The Call', in 2024!"

Dundee upstarts The View have been drafted in to support Liam Gallagher at the first two London The O2 concerts and both nights at Glasgow OVO Hydro.

The View enthused: "We are thrilled to announce that we will be supporting Liam Gallagher at his sold out shows in Glasgow & London next June! This is going to be off the charts!"

Former Oasis vocalist and esteemed solo star Liam Gallagher will perform ‘Definitely Maybe’ in its glorious entirety on his 14-date arena tour alongside a selection of Oasis B-sides.

Unsurprisingly, tickets to all dates on the tour sold out with hours of going on sale in October.

“I’m bouncing around the house to announce the ‘Definitely Maybe’ Tour,” Liam said when the tour was announced. “The most important album of the ‘90s bar none. I wouldn’t be anywhere without it and neither would you, so let’s celebrate together LG x”

Oasis' 'Definitely Maybe' has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide including 2.4 million in the band's home nation.

2022 UK/EU TOUR DATES RESCHEDULED

As many of you know, this year has dealt me some health challenges which are nearly but not quite resolved. While my recovery is almost complete, I have been given doctor’s orders to stay off the road until August – and so it is with great frustration that we must reschedule The Roadside Tour dates in the UK and Europe from June and July to September and October of this year. Please read on for details of the rescheduled dates.

TOUR DATES W/ JOURNEY UPDATE

I am absolutely gutted.

I haven’t felt like myself since mid-December with a sinus infection that won’t respond to medication. It has worsened to the point where I have no choice but to have a procedure that I expect will put me on a path to recovery soon.

The last thing I ever want to do is cancel shows and I am absolutely gutted that I won’t be able to perform the upcoming dates with Journey as planned.

I wish Journey only the best on their tour and give thanks to TOTO for stepping in for me.

2024 Grammy-Nominated TOMMY EMMANUEL Lights Up New Year With UK + US Tour Dates and National Guitar Museum Honor

DT: JANUARY 4, 2024

FM: MITCH SCHNEIDER/ANDREA FAULK/LYNDIE WENNER SRO PR (LOS ANGELES, NASHVILLE, LAS VEGAS)

TOMMY EMMANUEL LIGHTS UP 2024 WITH TOUR DATES LAUNCHING JANUARY 10 IN THE UK AND HITTING THE US FEBRUARY 20

NOMINATED FOR A GRAMMY FOR “FOLSOM PRISON BLUES” BY THE STRING REVOLUTION FEATURING TOMMY EMMANUEL

AWARDED WITH “LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT” AWARD BY THE NATIONAL GUITAR MUSEUM

Coming off a dynamic 2023 which saw the release of his acclaimed collaborations album ACCOMPLICE TWO , a Grammy nomination, and “Lifetime Achievement” Award from The National GUITAR Museum, TOMMY EMMANUEL is starting 2024 where he brilliantly shines—on the stage—with his infectious guitar virtuosity and charismatic personality.

Between January 10-February 2 , the acoustic guitarist extraordinaire, composer, and global touring artist will headline shows in the UK (with support act Molly Tuttle), Ireland (with Mike Dawes) and Paris (with Clive Carroll) before returning to the US on February 20 in Tulsa, OK. See his U.S. tour dates below (with support acts Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley) and the full international tour dates here .

TOMMY ’s Grammy nomination (in the Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella category) is for “Folsom Prison Blues” by The String Revolution Featuring Tommy Emmanuel that was produced by Grammy® winning producer (and Johnny Cash’s son), John Carter Cash. Watch an in-studio video of it HERE and a discussion of the recording with TOMMY and The String Revolution HERE . The GRAMMYs air Sunday, February 4 and will broadcast live on the CBS Television Network and stream live and on-demand on Paramount+ at 8-11:30 p.m. ET/5-8:30 p.m. PT.

This past December, The National GUITAR Museum bestowed TOMMY with its annual “Lifetime Achievement” Award for 2023. He’s the fourteenth recipient of the award that most recently (2022) celebrated Jeff Beck.

“To watch Tommy play fingerstyle guitar is to see possibilities in the guitar that most guitarists don’t even know exist,” according to HP Newquist, the executive director of The National GUITAR Museum . “Tommy’s extraordinary skill is second to none among modern guitar players. He truly is one of the few players in history about whom the term “jaw-dropping” is perfectly suited. Over his decades-long career he has become both an icon and an inspiration, and we’re honored to be able to recognize Tommy’s contribution to the guitar with this award.”

Said TOMMY: “I want to thank the National Guitar Museum for this wonderful honor. I feel like it was yesterday when I started playing this beautiful instrument,” said Tommy. “I will always be grateful to my parents for nurturing us kids as youngsters, encouraging us and exposing us to good music, and the artists who exemplified the words “Talented Entertainers”. The guitar has taken me places I could never have dreamed of, introduced me to audiences all over the world that I now have a relationship with, and kept that fire burning in my belly, to keep trying to learn more, play better, write deeper and give it all up on stage to the people I love playing for. I owe so much to so many who came before me and laid it all out. We, the lucky generation, have big shoes to fill.”

TOMMY EMMANUEL ’s current album ACCOMPLICE TWO (the follow-up to 2018’s Accomplice One album) was released this past April via CGP Sounds . Produced lovingly by EMMANUEL , regarded by guitar great Chet Atkins as “one of the best guitar players I’ve ever seen,” the 16-track ACCOMPLICE TWO is a spirited mix of new takes on indelible classics and brand-new originals from TOMMY. His collaborators are some of the most remarkable musicians on the planet—an “A” list of musicians including Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Michael McDonald, Jamey Johnson, Raul Malo , and many more (the full list is HERE ). View the album’s critical praise HERE . EMMANUEL has continued to release videos including most recently these, filmed by Joshua Britt and Neilson Hubbard for Neighborhoods Apart .

ACCOMPLICE TWO is alive with the electric spirit of spontaneous, timeless joy created by inspired virtuosos. The combined artistry contained on these tracks is stunning, as is TOMMY ’s cheerful ease at connecting naturally with this vast spectrum of musicians. Like the first volume, he merges the presence of beloved, legendary musicians—such as Jorma Kaukonen, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Little Feat, Sam Bush, the Del McCoury Band and Jerry Douglas —with the bright spirit of acclaimed young artists breaking through with deep artistry and true reverence for the power of song.

Here are TOMMY ’s U.S. tour dates for 2024. The full international list of dates is HERE .

ABOUT TOMMY EMMANUEL :

TOMMY EMMANUEL has achieved enough musical milestones to satisfy several lifetimes. At the age of six, he was touring regional Australia with his family band. By 30, he was a rock n’ roll lead guitarist burning up stadiums in Europe. At 44, he became one of five people ever named a CPG (Certified Guitar Player) by his idol, music icon Chet Atkins . Today, he plays hundreds of sold-out shows every year from Nashville to Sydney to London. He’s piled up numerous accolades, including  two Grammy Award nominations ,  two ARIA Awards  from the Australian Recording Industry Association (the Aussie equivalent of the Recording Academy); repeated honors in the  Guitar Player  magazine reader’s poll including a cover story for their August 2017 issue; a cover feature for Vintage Guitar ’s July 2020 issue; and was Music Radar ’s reader’s poll #1 winner of the Ten Best Acoustic Guitarists in The World (December 2019). A noted fingerstyle guitarist,  EMMANUEL  frequently threads three different parts simultaneously into his material, operating as a one-man band who handles the melody, the supporting chords and the bass all at once. His talents, which translate in any language, carry him to the far corners of the globe, but  EMMANUEL  never plays the same show twice, and he improvises big chunks of every date. That leaves him open to those technical imperfections, though they also provide some of the humanity to an other-worldly talent. On May 8, 2020, he released a newly recorded career-spanning double album, THE BEST OF TOMMYSONGS , via CGP Sounds/Cruzen Street Records). Watch the album trailer here which focuses on TOMMY ’s unique ability to tell stories without words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SOQEMWYAQ4&feature=youtu.be . EMMANUEL subsequently released three EP’s with different collaborators, Accomplice Series Vol. 1, 2 and 3 , the last of which was in 2022.
