Amazing show and I'm glad I was able to tell him I had first listened to his music on shrooms and nearly jumped into the Hudson River. I think he thought I was strange, but fuck it.

Great show! I highly recommend seeing Automatic and Black Marble whenever you get a chance. These bands are equally as great live as recorded. Don’t miss your chance to see them

BLACK MARBLE shares moving new single 'Ceiling' + adds 2022 tour dates
An infectious and dreamlike second offering from the forthcoming full-length.
The Chris Stewart -led Black Marble is gearing up for the arrival of his fourth full-length, Fast Idol , on October 22nd via the always consistent Sacred Bones Records , complete with an intriguing cover open to various interpretations. As we inch closer to the release date, Stewart shares Ceiling as another taste of the vibrance that awaits. The track's stunning synth melodies come alive with a lyric video edited by Alana-Marie French , capturing the uplifting essence of Black Marble 's hymns. You can't help but let the rhythm pulse through your body as you sway your head in congruence with Stewart 's soothing vocals. Bigger Than Life (2019) set a high mark for the musician's compositional prowess, but as it stands, Fast Idol continues and further expands upon Black Marble 's prominence in the synth laden ranks. Those keen to experience the album via the live setting will have opportunities to do so from this fall onward with Black Marble adding new dates for a robust touring schedule (see below).
Chris Stewart comments:
“‘Ceiling’ is about the persistence of memory and the fear of starting to lose the plot on what’s happening. When you talk to people these days, there's a pervasive sense that we’ve lost a sense of shared reality and yet you never hear anyone indict themselves as being responsible. So this song just deals with the paranoia of thinking like, ok, what if it’s not them it's me? Or what if it's not me now, but inevitably it one day will be? And does it matter? ‘In silence for the words we leave behind’ is about holding onto meaning, but not any one idea, just the hope that it persists. It's a recitation to ward off the thought that we'll return in another time and be unable to understand the plights of the day, or parse any of the ambiguity that exists between people.”

An Interview With Black Marble's Chris Stewart
For the release of Turntable Lab's exclusive pressing of Black Marble's 'It's Immaterial' , we caught up with Chris Stewart about gear, influences, graphic design + more.
First of all, the album cover for It’s Immaterial is so striking, what can you tell us about it? Who is the girl? Where is the house?
The girl is my friend Halle, the house is in LA. At the time it was shot I didn’t know Halle, but I’ve become friends with her since I moved to the west coast. She’s in a band called Automatic and we are touring with them in the fall.
You handle all the art direction for Black Marble, in addition to a history working in graphic design in New York. What are some of your all-time favorite album covers?
The ones that come to mind immediately are: Sonic Youth: Daydream Nation , The Smiths: The Queen is Dead and Big Black: Songs About Fucking .
What gear did you use in these sessions? What pieces were revelatory or crucial to the process?
I used a Korg Poly 61 and a DW-8000 for most of it. I make beats and sequence tracks on an MPC.
We read that you grew up in the DC suburbs (Ed. note - so did I)… Were you involved in the DC punk scene at all? Any favorite DC area haunts?
I was a suburban punk. My friends and I would drive into Georgetown and hang out at the Exorcist steps and drink 40s. I would go to Black Cat and 930 Club for shows.
We can’t help but be reminded of Peter Hook when we hear that picked bassline on ‘Iron Lung’… were New Order or Joy Division particularly inspiring to you at any point? Any favorite Hook basslines?
Probs "Dance To The Radio." Yeah I liked those bands, and I liked the staccato style he played with. It’s an easy style to work with when you’re just starting out. He probably wasn’t a very good bass player in the grand scheme of things but his bass lines were memorable which I think is an almost completely unrelated talent. It’s inspirational for other people who aren’t very good technically.
You’ve said that the Minimal Wave show on East Village Radio was eye-opening for you. What records from that scene or era have had the most profound effect on you? Personal faves?
Martin DuPont, Cabaret Voltaire, Chrome, etc.
I read somewhere that you imagine your music being enjoyed in a bedroom, relaxed, flipping through books. What other records occupy this zone for you personally?
Solid Space , Plantasia , Gram Parsons.
What have you been doing in the time since It’s Immaterial came out? What’s next for Black Marble?
Touring, writing, using sunscreen.

The violinists of Black Marble are the co-directors of the internationally acclaimed baroque ensemble, REBEL, with whom they record and concertize extensively in the U.S. and abroad. The name ‘Black Marble’ derives from the English translation of their last names: Schwarz (German, for black) and Marmer (Dutch, for marble). The duo, founded in 2012, has performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Kendal-on-Hudson Concert Series, Greenburgh Library, Downtown Music at Grace (White Plains), Harvard Business School Concert Series, Cape Cod Early Music Festival, 1731 Concert Series in Jamesport, NY, King Manor in Jamaica, Queens, Suite Concerts in Peekskill and Midtown Concerts in New York City. September 2010 Black Marble was featured on WQXR-FM’s ‘violin month’, in an interview and video performance hosted by Jeff Spurgeon. The ensemble aims to explore the rich, virtuosic and rarely performed repertoire written for two violins by Leclair, Telemann, Mozart, Reger, Spohr and Bartok, amongst others, on instruments and bows appropriate to their respective periods. The husband and wife team perform on equally well-matched Stainer violins dated 1660 and 1668, respectively. The 2019-2020 season includes performances in Oakland, New Jersey, and at libraries in Ossining, Elmsford, Shrub Oak and Peekskill, NY.

He has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Europe. A recipient of numerous grants and scholarships, he studied violin with Max Rostal in Germany and with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in New York. She has served as a principal player of the New York Collegium, American Classical Orchestra and the Grande Bande in New York, as well as the Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra for which she served as co-concertmaster from 1991-96. In 2010 Ms. Marmer served as guest concertmaster of the venerable Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity series in New York City in a performance of Bach’s St. John Passion. She has performed under the batons of Ton Koopman, Frans Brüggen, William Christie, Philippe Herreweghe, Reinhard Goebel, Frieder Bernius and Gustav Leonhardt, among others, and has concertized throughout Europe with Marie Leonhardt.

Her recording credits include Vox Classics, PGM, Chesky, Koch International, ATMA Classique, Hänssler Classics, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Bridge Records and Dorian Recordings.
While at Yale, Ms. Marmer was the artistic director and producer of an innovative series of chamber music concerts which brought together students from the undergraduate, graduate and alumni sectors. In the year 2000, Ms. Marmer founded the Westchester, New York-based chamber music series, MUSICA ANTIQUA NOVA, of which she has been producer since its inception. In addition to her duties as REBEL’s manager and publicist, as a passionate cultural advocate she has served on the adjudicating panels of the Westchester Arts Council and the New York State Council on the Arts. In Spring 2008, Ms. Marmer was awarded the John Castellini Silver Jubilee Award for distinguished alumna from her alma mater, the Aaron Copland School of Music. Ms. Marmer is also artistic director of the ensemble, Tableau Vivant and co-director of Black Marble Duo along with her husband, violinist Jörg-Michael Schwarz.

FRANKLIN, TENNESSEE - SEPTEMBER 23: (L-R) Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes perform during Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm on September 23, 2023 in Franklin, Tennessee. (Photo by Erika Goldring/Getty Images)
The Black Crowes Set Off On Their ‘Happiness Bastards’ Tour – Setlist & Dates
The Black Crowes have begun their extensive tour in support of their highly anticipated upcoming album, Happiness Bastards.
Spanning nearly three dozen dates, the tour will kick off with a performance in Nashville in early April and is currently scheduled to culminate on June 9 with an appearance at a festival in Spain.
Happiness Bastards will mark The Black Crowes’ 10th studio album and their first collection of new music in 15 years. Their previous album, Before the Frost … Until the Freeze , showcased live recordings of new material performed in front of a live audience. Since then, they have released an album that featured reimagined renditions of their older tracks and an EP comprised of songs from 1972.
Band leaders Chris and Rich Robinson reunited in 2019, ending a four-year hiatus that saw the brothers estranged from each other. The planned 2020 tour to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Shake Your Money Maker , was postponed due to the pandemic. However, the tour eventually commenced in 2021 , and the band has remained active with additional concert dates and an expanded reissue of their seminal first album.
The Black Crowes’ debut album, Shake Your Money Maker , originally released in 1990, achieved tremendous success and has now been reissued in multi-format sets through UMe/American Recordings. Review: Neil Young & Crazy Horse strike heart of gold at tour-opening concert
S AN DIEGO — When Neil Young sang "rock and roll will never die" near the conclusion of his tour-opening Love Earth concert with Crazy Horse Wednesday in San Diego, you believed him.
Those words, from his 1978 song, "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)," sounded like a defiant vow in the face of possible obsolescence 46 years ago. Now, they are a statement of fact from a proud maverick who sounds more committed than ever, even — or, rather, especially — at a time when rock is increasingly becoming a niche genre pushed aside by formulaic pop, hip-hop and dance music.
At 78, Young remains a staunch keeper of the flame whose passion for music burns as bright as ever. If anyone thinks this veteran singer, songwriter and guitarist is ready to kick back in his old age, he and his band immediately and convincingly refuted such notions with their powerful, nearly two-hour performance at SDSU's Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre. (They performed a second sold-out show at the same venue Thursday night.)
Young and his three-man band opened with "Cortez the Killer," an epic number from their 1975 album, "Zuma." But this was no sentimental journey down nostalgia lane, nor was it a tentative, shake-off-the-dust run through.
Their carefully calibrated version of "Cortez" built to a series of powerful climaxes Monday and lasted 15 minutes — nearly twice as long as the original on "Zuma." The song began with an opening guitar jam that lasted seven minutes before Young's reedy vocals commenced. For good measure, near the conclusion of "Cortez," he sang — for the first time anywhere in concert — a missing verse he recently came upon that had been cut from the 1975 recording.
The unearthed lyrics provided additional depth and a palpable sense of despair to Young's tour de force song about Hernán Cortez, the bloody Spanish conqueror of Mexico's Aztec Empire: "I floated on the water/ I ate that ocean wave/ Two weeks after the slaughter/ I was living in a cave/ They came too late to get me/ But there's no one here to set me free/ From this rocky grave/ To that snowed-out ocean wave."
The next selection was the buoyant "Cinnamon Girl," a choice cut from 1969's "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere," the first album Young and Crazy Horse made together. It clocked in at a crisp three minutes.
The rest of the concert included several other extended jams, with "Down by the River" and "Love and Only Love" both clocking in at a glorious 16 minutes (but not lasting one second too long). Conversely, Young's tender solo acoustic versions of "Comes a Time," "Heart of Gold" and "Human Highway" were each delivered with admirable concision.
The manner in which he alternated between longer and shorter selections served as a master class on how to pace a concert to build momentum and achieve maximum dynamic tension and release.
The final encore was an eight-minute rendition of "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)," whose line "There's more to the picture than meets the eye" could be a synopsis of Young's career and his dogged determination to do things his way, every time, no matter what the trends of the day may be.
At SDSU, Young and his longtime Crazy Horse compadres — bassist/singer Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina, both 80 — were focused and in sync from start to finish. They were joined by guitarist/singer Micah Nelson, 33, who on Monday had played a key role accompanying his father, Willie Nelson, at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park.
Micah Nelson was performing in place of Crazy Horse charter member Nils Lofgren, who is now on tour in the E Street Band with his other longtime employer, Bruce Springsteen. Those are big shoes to fill, but Nelson was so in sync with Young you'd think they had been musical partners for decades.
The stage was bedecked with the giant, faux Fender guitar amplifiers, speaker cabinets and road cases Young and Crazy Horse used on their 1978 Rust Never Sleeps Tour. There were no video screens on the stage, the better for the audience — which included basketball great Bill Walton and Las Vegas Raiders NFL team owner Mark Davis — to focus completely on the music at hand.
The SDSU concert — the start of Young and Crazy Horse's first major tour together in a decade — came a year after Young's mesmerizing solo concert here at the Shell. Wednesday's performance was even more mesmerizing, in large part because of the musical empathy between the four musicians.
When they locked into a groove, which was often, they seemed to be of one mind. And it's difficult to think of any other rock band of any vintage that can gain as much traction from so many slow-paced songs.
With few exceptions, Young's biting guitar solos contained a minimum of notes, but he made each one count, repeatedly going into a zone where feeling and intensity trump quantity. Or, to invoke the title of Young's 1988 album: "This Note's For You."
Apart from a heartfelt spoken tribute to the late David Briggs — the producer of many of Young's albums with (and without) Crazy Horse — Young's comments to the audience were along the lines of: "Thank you" and "How ya doin'?"
Otherwise, he let his music speak for him, and it spoke volumes.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.
Know More about this tour
We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:
From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.
At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.
According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.
The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.
Coffee Ring
The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.
Zodiac Metro
According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.
Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.
Paleontological finds
Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!
