Bryn Mawr College Transfers: 2024 Requirements, Dates, GPAs & More

How effective are bryn mawr college virtual tours.

It depends how you use them. Bryn Mawr College is a hustling, bustling campus and community. The beauty of Bryn Mawr College virtual tours on CampusReel is that authentic video tours, made by real students, can be spectacular at capturing the Bryn Mawr College vibe. We also go well beyond the confines of the Bryn Mawr College campus by taking you around Bryn Mawr. In traditional virtual tours, you will mostly see still, unengaging images and will not see the surrounding area at all – which is why CampusReel virtual tours are so important.

Can a Bryn Mawr College virtual tour replace a traditional in-person visit?

If you cannot visit Bryn Mawr College in person, then we can honestly say that we believe a CampusReel virtual tour of Bryn Mawr College is absolutely the most effective and holistic way to understand the Bryn Mawr College people, campus and community. However, if you do plan on visiting Bryn Mawr College and other colleges in person, we strongly recommend that you at least prescreen your college options on CampusReel before spending the time and money to visit. Most prospective families find that as soon as the step on campus, they instantly know whether or not they like the school – but they’ve already spent all that time and money getting there! Our goal is to eliminate all the time and money visiting Bryn Mawr College in person until you can make a strong educated guess that it’s worth the investment.

What places can I virtually tour at Bryn Mawr College ?

For your convenience, below is a list of Bryn Mawr College places you can virtually tour on CampusReel.

  • Bryn Mawr College at Bryn Mawr College
  • Park Science Center at Bryn Mawr College

What are the downsides of a Bryn Mawr College virtual tour?

The downside of virtually touring Bryn Mawr College on CampusReel is that, admittedly, our technology does not yet mimic the exact feeling and experience of visiting Bryn Mawr College in person. We are working on this though! A common request we also receive from users is to add more perspectives (e.g. student guides) to the platform. Rest assured we are working on adding more CampusReel guides to the Bryn Mawr College virtual tour. However, our selection of guides still far outweighs the available perspectives of traditional virtual tour platforms.

What are the benefits of a Bryn Mawr College virtual tour?

The most obvious benefit of a Bryn Mawr College virtual tour on CampusReel is that is can be accessed from anywhere. This can save families a lot of time and money compared to visiting Bryn Mawr College in person . Another often overlooked benefit of a CampusReel virtual tour is that it goes far beyond a traditional in person tour Bryn Mawr College . Campus visits are limited both in time and scope – how are you expected to truly understand a college in a 1 hour tour? That’s why we stress the added benefit of CampusReel virtual tours – experience Bryn Mawr College and Bryn Mawr during different seasons, days of the week, and even hours of the day. What’s game day like? What is finals week life? Again, traditional virtual touring platforms don’t include this benefit.

Black at Bryn Mawr — Touring an Unspoken History

Black at Bryn Mawr — Touring an Unspoken History

By Helen Ehrlich, News Editor

Bryn Mawr College (BMC) has long been considered one of the most educationally rigorous and prestigious institutions for gender minorities, but during this 137-year history the college has also intentionally failed to serve racial and cultural minorities. The Black at Bryn Mawr Tour seeks to shed light on the treatment of Black students.

Black at Bryn Mawr first launched as a research project in 2015 . This initiative was led by two senior Mawrters, Emma Kioko and Grace Pusey, who were completing a Praxis III Independent Study course. The project garnered national attention, granting Kioko and Pusey The National Council on Public History’s (NCPH) 2016 NCPH Student Project Award honorable mention.

Bryn Mawr College on Twitter: ""Black at Bryn Mawr," started by Grace Pusey '15 & Emma Kioko '15, honored by @ncph! https://t.co/nmb1R530de https://t.co/TT3UyrC2Lz" / Twitter

The College began developing a tour in response to the research project, which now has a digital edition. The tour was influenced by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Black & Blue Tour , which launched in 2001. The virtual and in-person BMC tours take students around points on campus that are crucial to Black history.

BMC currently offers the tour during special events on campus, including “during pre-arrival, THRIVE, New Faculty Orientation, Family Weekend, Community Day of Learning, Admitted Students Weekend, and Reunion Weekend.” BMC also provides the tours upon request, primarily for classes and departments that find it to be relevant to their field or the message they are trying to promote. Black at Bryn Mawr tours are student led, which means they require thorough training of current Mawrters. There are presently five student guides, meaning the school is unable to meet the great demand for tours.

Maids, Porters and the Hidden World of Work at Bryn Mawr College: Celebrating Stories for Black History Month | Educating Women

The Black at Bryn Mawr program first expanded beyond research to tours. Now, it’s growing to include a new mentorship program for students of color. This initiative pairs staff and faculty with students, allowing them to focus on areas such as social, professional and general personal development.

The class of 2025 was the first group at BMC to have a mandatory Black at Bryn Mawr tour as part of their pre-arrival program. It was offered digitally and was required as a virtual component of the 2025 THRIVE programming before coming to campus. This was a result of the 2020 strike, which demanded diversity training. Members of the class of 2025 also participated in a separate series of diversity training seminars, in addition to a Black at Bryn Mawr tour.

Methodology | Black at Bryn Mawr

Tours delve into areas of the college’s history that had previously been excluded from public knowledge: Tunnels in Old Library served as a way for BMC to have Black staff work at Bryn Mawr without being seen, Joseph Taylor wanted the chapel built in order to repel the admission of Jewish students, the history of the Enid Cook center and M. Carrey Thomas directly blocked the admission of Black, brown and Jewish students and professors.

The dark and racist periods of Bryn Mawr’s history are not things that can be overlooked and tucked away. These elements continue to impact campus today, in both artifacts and the campus culture. For Black students at Bryn Mawr, racism is not just part of BMC’s history, but an aspect of their lived experience at a school where they comprise 5.92% of the population (2019). Bryn Mawr must continue to address this past so that it may improve the present.

Bryn mawr college names wendy cadge 10th president.

Wendy Cadge, a sociologist and national expert in contemporary American religion, has been selected by the Bryn Mawr College Board of Trustees to serve as the College’s 10 th president, effective July 1.

Currently the dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Science and Barbara Mandel Professor of the Humanistic Social Sciences at Brandeis University, Cadge is the author of three books and more than 100 scholarly articles. At Brandeis, she has centered the graduate student experience by rebuilding and expanding student professional development, collaborating to strengthen degree programs, and advancing the graduate school’s anti-racism plan. She built Brandeis’ first Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Collaboration to expand and make accessible research opportunities for all undergraduates, led the Division of Social Sciences, and chaired the Brandeis Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Program. She served as a faculty representative to the Board of Trustees and chaired the Faculty Governance Task Force, a three-year initiative to strengthen faculty’s role in shared governance.

Bryn Mawr’s unique combination of undergraduate liberal arts for women and coeducational graduate programs was a draw for Cadge. "I believe the liberal arts change lives, and their influence does not stop with a bachelor’s degree,” said Cadge. “My work in higher education brings undergraduate and graduate students together with faculty and staff to teach and learn, grow and collaborate, nurture and celebrate. Bryn Mawr’s remarkable commitment to undergraduate and graduate students, academic excellence, and preparing all of us for lives of purpose is the reason I am coming here."

Board of Trustees Chair Cynthia Archer ’75 believes that Cadge is uniquely suited to be Bryn Mawr’s next president.

“Wendy stood out in a rich field of remarkably talented candidates,” said Archer. “She is a creative and entrepreneurial scholar and a brilliant educator whose work and life beautifully align with Bryn Mawr’s mission.  Her clear intellect, innate collegiality, perceptive listening, and compelling energy make her an inspiring choice.  I am confident that she will combine forces with our exceptional community to lead Bryn Mawr to new heights of vibrancy and excellence.”

“Wendy has made lasting contributions to Brandeis,” said Brandeis University President Ron Liebowitz. “In addition to her own scholarship, her noted mentorship of young scholars will extend through their careers in the academy and elsewhere. I congratulate Wendy and welcome her to the ranks of college and university presidents.”

A public intellectual, Cadge launched the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab in 2018 to advance the work of chaplains in providing innovative spiritual care and support to the public and frequently works with the media and community partners on related topics. In addition to its academic rigor, Cadge was drawn to Bryn Mawr by its commitment to equity and inclusion as the engine for excellence and the community’s commitment to one another.

“So many students and fellow faculty at Brandeis have benefitted from Wendy’s leadership in the classroom, in the field, and in academic administration,” said Brandeis University Provost Carol Fierke. “I know her keen intellect, dedication to students, and administrative expertise will serve the Bryn Mawr community well.”

Bryn Mawr College, a flourishing, diverse liberal arts educational community, has been dedicated to the highest academic standards since its founding in 1885. The first women’s college to offer a Ph.D. education in the United States, 96% of undergraduate students are employed or engaged in graduate study, fellowships, or other professional opportunities. Bryn Mawr has been a top producer of Fulbright U.S. Student Program participants for the past five years and is #2 for research among liberal arts colleges, according to a 2023 Washington Monthly magazine ranking.

The College’s Board of Trustees launched a national search for Bryn Mawr’s 10 th president in May 2023. The search committee, comprised of 16 Bryn Mawr community members and one Haverford College Board of Managers representative, was chaired by trustee Amy Loftus, ’90, and trustee Cecilia Conrad served as vice-chair. Since the search’s launch, the committee has led more than 20 inclusive community listening sessions and reviewed more than 400 nominations for consideration, supported by executive search firm Spencer Stuart.

Loftus said, “We are delighted in our selection of Wendy Cadge as Bryn Mawr’s 10th President. In a field of tremendous candidates, Wendy impressed our committee as a bold and creative leader and scholar who is deeply committed to student and faculty excellence and embodies inclusivity at her core. We look forward to Wendy’s leadership of this extraordinary community of students, faculty, staff, and alumnae/i to build on Bryn Mawr’s rich history of success.”

Vice-chair Conrad said, “We are thankful to everyone who contributed to the search process - those who completed surveys, participated in listening sessions, and submitted nominations. From an amazing pool of candidates, Wendy Cadge emerged as the entrepreneurial leader for Bryn Mawr’s future.”

Undergraduate student Adalia Rodriguez, a senior who was one of two student members of the search committee, said, "Wendy is an incredible listener and collaborator. When it comes to innovation or solving an issue, she will always work with the community to find the best approach, even if she has many of her own ideas.  I'm extremely excited to see how Bryn Mawr will be elevated to new heights under her leadership!" Faculty Chair Catherine Conybeare, one of four faculty search committee members, is the Leslie Clark Professor in the Humanities and Chair of Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies.  "We are so fortunate to have attracted Wendy Cadge as our next president. She is a brilliant systemic and creative thinker and believes passionately in the power of a liberal arts education to transform lives," said Conybeare. " She also prizes Bryn Mawr's unique standing as a liberal arts college that includes a number of serious graduate programs."

Staff representative David Consiglio said, “Wendy Cadge is an exceptional combination of attributes that make her the right person to lead Bryn Mawr into the future.  I was immediately drawn to her intellect, the creativity of her ideas, and her ability to grasp the essence of issues and see the opportunities they present. Her dedication to women’s education and genuine interest and concern for each community member is abundantly clear. I could not be happier that she will be our next president.”

Cadge succeeds Bryn Mawr’s ninth president, Kim Cassidy, who will transition out of the role at the conclusion of her second term in June 2024 after serving 11 years as president. After a sabbatical, she will return to teach within the College’s psychology department faculty.

Located on a beautiful residential campus just outside of Philadelphia, Pa., Bryn Mawr’s undergraduate college attracts women who share a strong commitment to intellectual inquiry, an independent and purposeful vision of their lives, and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the world. Two distinctive coed graduate schools, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, along with a post-baccalaureate premedical program, enrich the College community and offer opportunities for advanced study.

Delaware County native and sociologist named next president of Bryn Mawr College

A Delaware County native and sociologist who got her undergraduate degree at Swarthmore College will become the next president of Bryn Mawr College, the school announced Tuesday.

Wendy Cadge, 48, dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and a professor at Brandeis University in Massachusetts, will begin at the women’s college July 1.

“The liberal arts changed my life, and I am coming to Bryn Mawr to try and pay that forward,” Cadge, an expert in contemporary American religion, said in an interview. “I have always wanted to lead faculty and smart students to do creative and excellent academic work and this is a great opportunity to do that.”

Cadge will replace Kim Cassidy who announced nearly a year ago that she would be stepping down as president this June after an 11-year run, nearly twice the average tenure for presidents these days. She will return to the faculty in fall 2026 after a two-year sabbatical, the college had announced.

Asked about her plans for Bryn Mawr, a selective college that enrolls 1,361 undergraduates and accepts 31% of applicants, Cadge said: “I have a lot to learn first so that’s where I’m going to start.”

An interdisciplinary scholar, Cadge focuses on contemporary American religion, especially as it relates to health care, immigration and sexuality, according to her Brandeis website . She has written books about Buddhism in the United States and religion in health care. During the pandemic, Cadge and colleagues worked on projects focused on the experiences of nurses working on COVID-19 units.

At Brandeis, where she has worked for 18 years, she is credited with building the school’s first office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Collaboration, aimed at giving research opportunities to all undergraduates. She also chaired the university’s Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Program and served as a faculty representative to the board of trustees. She chaired the Faculty Governance Task Force, which was aimed at boosting the faculty role in shared governance.

She also started the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab in 2018 aimed at fostering chaplains’ work in providing spiritual care to the public.

“Wendy stood out in a rich field of remarkably talented candidates,” Cynthia Archer, chair of the board of trustees, said in a statement. “She is a creative and entrepreneurial scholar and a brilliant educator whose work and life beautifully align with Bryn Mawr’s mission.”

Her Swarthmore degree was in religion, sociology and anthropology. She got her master’s and doctorate in sociology from Princeton. Cadge began her career at Bowdoin College in Maine and had a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard before moving to Brandeis.

Cadge said she enjoys traveling and the outdoors and being with her family. She also loves the beach. Ocean City, N.J., is her favorite Shore point; she is the fifth generation of her family to vacation there.

She plans to move to the Philadelphia area with her wife and two school-age children.
