Caledonian travel is fantastic value…

Caledonian travel is fantastic value for money. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday where you don't have to think where to go on a daily basis or think about what to cook at night this is the holiday for you plus most hotels have entertainment at night.

Mystery Tour

We had a lovely Mystery Tour and ended up in Matlock then Bakewell. It would have been better to have more time in ‘Matlock and less in Bakewell though. I’ve booked another Mystery Tour so hope it’s not the same trip lol. It would be nice to go to Liverpool or Chester for a change as most mystery trips go to the same old places such as Stratford and Lincoln. Must say our driver was lovely too and was very jovial, overall a great trip Thankyou

Great way to visit without having to…

Great way to visit without having to drive. The accommodation was good. Looked like the room we had was refurbished. The food was good with plenty to choose from and having included drinks was a bonus . Plenty of good choices there too with options to upgrade further. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Included and optional trips were a good way to see the local area. All in all we had a lovely time and will certainly book again.

Had a fantastic day trip to St Andrews

Scotland & steam train

Well it was a nice ride out !what a shame our holiday was cancelled but thank goodness we found out before we got past wetherby! After a great start with our good driver Darren we set off heading to Arrochar - the claymore hotel! Daren’s sense of humour was right up our street and we were looking forward to the weekend ahead. But then the poor man had to tell us all on the coach that unfortunately due to an outbreak of norovirus in the hotel we had to turn round and go home !! He was so professional throughout what a credit to your company

Marks mystery trip

Just returned from a mystery trip With Caledonian Travel the drivers name wasMarc and he kept us guessing right until we arrived at the destination. We had a stop at Derby and then in the Leonardo hotel in the town centre.Thisis a lovely hotel with a good evening mealand a brilliant breakfast. Rooms were Clean. The next day took us to Matlock and Bakewell two little villages we had never visited before. We had fantastic weekend met some lovely people and The driver, Mark wasvery informative of the places where we stopped. This is the second Mystery trip we have done in six months and have not been disappointed .Overall a brilliant weekend, Fantastic value and made even better with the sunshine.

Italian Lakes and Milan tour

Just returned from the Italian Lakes and Milan. Everything about this holiday was great. The Hotel Milano is beautiful, situated amongst glorious scenery. The staff too couldn’t do enough for you and the food was excellent. Free bar each night. Caledonian have thought of everything, even providing a guide for those who wanted it for the wonderful included excursions. The scenery is breathtaking! The two drivers were helpful, knowledgeable about the area and entertaining as well as negotiating twisty mountain roads safely. Highly recommended, exceptional value for money.

Just come back from the Ayrshire coast

Just come back from the Ayrshire coast. We had a great stay. Our driver Tony was excellent he was very informative and helpful. The only criticism we have is we would of liked more time in Largs and less time in Millport because there is very little to do there. The holiday was excellent value for money.

Shanklin Beach Hotel became unsatisfactory.

Driver, Dave was outstanding. Isle of Wight beautiful. Sandown Beach Hotel went from adequate to inadequate when breakfast on the final day was inedible and Philip the restaurant manager was unwilling to replace a breakfast item! Our ground floor room was cold and dark. Going back to IoW under our own steam. I suppose we got what we paid for!!!!!!

Everything went smoothly had a lovely time as always, pleasant driver always on time cannot find any fault at all always have a lovely time I am looking forward to my next trip.

The Castles were nice

The Castles were nice. Crathes staff were prepared for the coach and took us around the castle in groups. Lovely grounds and shop/cafes. Balmoral seems less ready for visitors, found guide gadget hard to operate, the map hard to follow, and time less than two hours inadequate. Prepare for muddy grounds. It would be better to have a fuller detailed itinerary, eg., Crathes on Saturday, Balmoral on Sunday, as no one knew, and were guessing.Very long times on bus, and stops only really had food/toilet minimum, no shops/newsagent or pharmacy if you need anything.

Problems are mainly with the sub-standard Hotels Caledonian continue to use.

Costing is very competitive and booking online, in person or on the phone can be carried out with little or no trouble. Problems are mainly at the hotel end when Caledonian continually use hotels from such as the Britannia Group which have been rated the worst hotel group in the UK for 2024.

Magical Mystery Tour.

This was my first mystery tour with Caledonian and it will not be my last. Our driver (Ricky) explained that he was only 3 weeks into his time with Caledonian and his customer service skills were brilliant - he made the break great fun. The hotel was excellent - comfortable and well organised.

Top EU court fines Hungary $216 million for flouting asylum law

Image

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union’s top court ordered Hungary to pay a fine of 200 million euros ($216 million) on Thursday for persistently breaking the bloc’s asylum rules despite a previous European Court of Justice ruling, plus an additional 1 million euros for every day it fails to comply going forward.

Hungary had not implemented a 2020 ruling from top EU judges in Luxembourg, the ECJ wrote in a press release. “That failure, which consists in deliberately avoiding the application of a common EU policy as a whole, constitutes an unprecedented and extremely serious infringement of EU law.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán slammed the ruling as “outrageous and unacceptable.”

“It seems that illegal migrants are more important to the Brussels bureaucrats than their own European citizens,” he wrote on the social media platform X.

Hungary’s anti-immigrant government has taken a hard line on people entering the country since well over 1 million people entered Europe in 2015, most of them fleeing conflict in Syria.

The case concerns changes Hungary made to its asylum system in the wake of that crisis, when some 400,000 people passed through Hungary on their way to Western Europe. Hungary built fences protected by razor wire on its southern borders with Serbia and Croatia and a pair of transit zones for holding asylum seekers on its border with Serbia. Those transit zones have since closed.

Image

The measures were part of Orban’s increasingly strict anti-immigration policies and the extreme minimization of Hungary’s asylum system.

Back in 2020, the ECJ found that Budapest’s policies had restricted access to international protection, unlawfully detained asylum applicants and failed to observe their right to stay in Hungary while their application went through the full due process, the court recalled on Thursday.

The transit zones were closed in 2020, shortly after the first ECJ ruling.

But the European Commission, which is responsible for monitoring the 27 EU member states’ compliance with their shared laws, took the view that Budapest had still not complied and requested the European Court of Justice to fine Hungary, the ECJ said Thursday.

After the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in 2020, the Hungarian government also pushed through a law forcing people seeking international protection to travel to Belgrade or Kyiv to apply for a travel permit at its embassies there to enter Hungary. Only once back could they file their applications.

The European Commission took Hungary to the European Court of Justice over the law, insisting that the country had failed to fulfil its obligations under the 27-nation’s blocs rules. The rules oblige all member countries to have common procedures for granting asylum.

People have the right to apply for asylum or other forms of international protection if they fear for their safety in their home countries or face the prospect of persecution based on their race, religion, ethnic background, gender or other discrimination.
