Cross Country Healthcare Opportunities

Cross Country Healthcare has it all when it comes to nursing positions:

  • Travel nursing Contracts
  • Local nursing Contracts
  • Per Diem nursing positions
  • Permanent nursing Positions

If you're researching Cross Country Healthcare, you may find references to Cross Country TravCoprs, MedStaff, and Medical Staffing Network. These three brands were merged into Cross Country Nurses, now part of the Cross Country Healthcare brand. This move was made to simplify the search process and make their team of national recruiters more accessible to travel nurses, no matter where you're located.

I worked with Cross Country through Medical Staffing Network, which focuses on per-diem local contract nursing. The application process was archaic at the time, and looking up contracted positions was only possible after speaking to a recruiter.

Everything has appeared to change since 2018—and for the better. While I can't speak to their current application process, it's evident that Cross Country has upgraded its website and job search process to a user-friendly digitized format. You can even browse the nursing contracts available, including pay rates.

Based on travel nursing reviews (below) and contract rates listed on their website, Cross Country Healthcare remains competitive with its high-paying contract rates. Zippia reports that registered nurses working with Cross Country earn an average salary of $98,994 per year at an hourly rate of around $48.00. Payment is made weekly for their travel nurses, locally contracted nurses, and per-diem nurses, with the pay breakdown varying depending on the position you take:

  • Travel Nurse Contract: Weekly contracted rate with guaranteed hours, plus housing and meal stipends (unless you choose company housing).
  • Local Nurse Contract : Weekly contracted rate with guaranteed hours, without housing or meal stipends.

Overall, Cross Country Healthcare provides competitive pay rates and excellent benefits to their travel nurses, making them a great option to consider when searching for your next position.

Cross Country Healthcare Insurance and Retirement Benefits

Cross Country Healthcare offers contracted nurses comprehensive medical insurance, with multiple options to choose from, including prescription coverage. Dependents are also eligible for these benefits. According to an Indeed review, benefits are available from day one of your contracted nursing assignment.

In addition, they provide the following:

  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision plans

  • Short-term disability coverage
  • Accidental insurance
  • Employee assistance programs
  • Pre-tax flex spending accounts

Retirement investment is also possible with Cross Country Healthcare's 401(K) plan, which is available through fidelity. The company even offers free financial empowerment and education courses for its nurses and healthcare professionals.

Cross Country Healthcare may also include company matching with the 401(K) plan. However, it is unclear if this applies to only per-diem nurses working with their CCMSN (Cross Country Medical Staffing Network) division or to travel nurses as well.

You can contact Cross Country Healthcare for more information if you have specific questions.

Original Allnurses Post

Quote Q : I'm really considering travel nursing within the next few months. I know the economy is slow and with my experience, it may not even possible to get a job (I have 20months NICU exp but I'm open to going wherever). I am talking with a few companies and I think I like Cross Country, but I really do not like the recruiter I am working with/talking to. Does anyone have a recruiter with this company that they would recommend via PM? I do think that this is the right company for me, being Canadian and all but I really want a better recruiter. A : Dear Poster, I recommend you contact your Cross Country Healthcare recruiter and request to speak with their manager.  When you talk with the manager, you can express your concerns and your passion to work with their company. The manager will then be able to set you up with a recruiter that better suits you and your needs. Personalities sometimes clash, and Cross Country should be happy and willing to get you with someone you can thrive with.  When I worked with CCMSN in 2018, I had a similar experience. After notifying my recruiter and asking to speak with his manager, the manager made sure I no longer needed to work with that recruiter. After that the remainder of my time with them was much improved.

Worked for CCTC for a long time. Will NEVER again. Don't accept one of their "exclusive contracts" where they do the interview and you don't speak to anyone at the hospital before traveling a thousand miles. PM me for additional info if you like.

In contrast, I've been with them for 14 years and am still satisfied. Just shows that we all have different requirements and you have to find the company that suits yours. I do agree with the above that I would not take a contract without speaking to the hospital. Always remember that YOU are interviewing the facility to see if they suit you as well as the other way around.

I really don't like to put anyone's name and info out on the general internet without permission, but can give you my recruiter's name if you would like to pm me.

Thanks for the responses! I definitely appreciate it. I do want to go with them because they are one of the bigger companies without being the AMN (which i will definitely not do). And most of the reviews i have seen are positive (for the most part!).

You may PM me. I am with Cross Country TravCore. No problems, great recruiter, same one since 2001.

I too have been thinking about travel nursing with Cross Country...I've never done traveling before...a bit skeptical but at the same time excited. From all my research I am learning the biggest single determinant in a successful and/or good travel experience boils down to the recruiter. I have already initiated correspondence and application with Cross Country...I found this thread helpful. So thanks.

Also, I'm nervous about giving up a salaried position for an unknown income...and some people are posting that there aren't alot of assignments out there and that this isn't a good time for traveling (referring to the economy) ...but when I check some of the job postings, such as Cross Country, I see plenty...can anyone speak to this....

Be very careful when you are looking at the openings companies put on their websites. Many use "generic" openings because "things change from minute to minute" and that just feels like bait and switch to me. Many times by the time you fill all the paperwork out for the company, it will take several days and they may not have any openings there anymore. If you want to go to a specific state or area, pick a bigger company who will have more choices. If you don't care where you go, just want to go for the fun of it, pick a smaller company that will have much better pay and benefits but will have fewer choices in where to send you.

If you want to go to orlando in the Winter, pick cross country they can probably get you there. If you just want to go to florida in the Winter, consdier a smaller company. They may send you to a different city but it will still be florida and it may not have been someplace you would have considered before. Consider making a weekend of orlando instead of an assignment. It is all in what you want more, location or benefits, choices of locations or smaller company with better benefits. Also, don't think you have to stay with one company just because they found your first job for you, try different companies. When you find a good fit of what you want, then stay with them. Otherwise, it is for you to decide that is one of the benefits in being a traveler!

Am re-entering the travel nursing field and am researching different companies. I am currently talking with a recruiter at CrossCountry (have traveled for them in the past without any problems) but feel I am getting a "lowball" offer to work in NYC. I have also applied PHP, Fastaff and Valley. Fastaff has posted some great pay rates, but availability of assignments for med-surg seems slim. Applied to PHP and Valley as they have been listed as some of the best on Highway Hypodermics. What is the going rate for NYC positions (hourly)? Has anybody here had any experience with PHP or Valley? Would like to know how they truly rate in a "real" traveler's eyes!

P.S. I have 12 yrs experience as an RN : Med-Surg/Ortho-Neuro-Trauma/Step-Down/ICU/OR

BABYPREP

I worked with Dijana (pronounced Deana) in 1994 and then again 2006-2009 and had great experiences with her both times. Things have changed in the past 20 years... Hospitals expect you to be nearly perfect and very flexible... Love CCTC and ready to try them again!!!!

Now that I've gotten all my money from these mofos, I feel relatively safe reviewing them... not like they can screw me over any more (I hope). I'm a surgical technologist and I took a travel assignment in Seattle, WA with this company, upon the recommendation of a physical therapist friend of mine. I don't even know where to begin. I played lots and lots of phone tag with my original recruiter(s), so I finally requested another one. She turned out to be fabulous and willing to help me with every step along the way. Lindsay was the one redeeming quality of my experience with this company, which, btw, is part of the "Evil Empire" of travel companies... I found out after spending some time with other travelers in Seattle. I'll try to keep it short and sweet, I know a lot of you have heard me bitch and bitch and bitch about being bent over and violated without the aid of any lubricant. They only reimburse up to $300 each way. Fortunately for me, my flights weren't that expensive. I had a coworker, however, from Hawaii working in Seattle, so he got screwed. In addition to that, you get taxed on things that shouldn't be taxable, such as the travel reimbursement. Think about it, the company "reimburses" you, and takes taxes out of it... and you pay taxes on your flight/travel itself. Can I get a "bitches"?! As for housing, I was placed in the International District, which was WAY fucking far away from my work and not the social experience I'd been led to believe it would be (I know, that's my personal preference... but howz about some University housing near the effing hospital! Damn!). On a slight upside, most of the major bus routes ran near my apartment, so I could get anywhere I needed to go, most of the time. And, the thing that pisses me off the most... money kept getting deducted from my paychecks seemingly "just because." Short explanation, missing a shift causes a deduction from your paycheck for housing. Makes sense... sorta. I didn't miss shifts, but money was being deducted like I had. It was an error in my contract. I was forced to become gestapo-ish in the monitoring of my checks. Lindsay made sure I was reimbursed for all the bullshit mistakes, but why the fuck didn't they get it straight the first time? This calls for another, "bitches." The corrections were wired directly to my bank account, for which I was charged wiring fees... each time. I was told I'd be reimbursed for that, but I don't think I ever was. It seems to me that MAYBE 3 of my biweekly paychecks for almost 6 months were, in fact, correct. Don't work for these guys... they suck and don't really care about you!

Photo of Karen W.

They tell you that your RN contract is guaranteed hours. Please don't believe them. My contract was cut short for an error on their part. My hotel fee was $530, I had to pay. Cross Country didn't pay me my guaranteed hours and stipend. They made up lies. I'm going to the Labor and Wage Board in reference to this.

Photo of Evan J.

I got a contract with Flexcare through Cross Country at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Upon arrival to my first day of orientation, found out the nurses were planning to strike later that week if their union was not able to make a fair agreement with the hospital. The on site Manager for Cross Country, Brittany Ouellette, asked me if I was planning on going to work those days. I stated that this was the first I am hearing of this and didn't know but would assume I would go to work. She did not mention any repercussions if I chose to not come in. The supervisor for my location of work asked me as well if I was planning to participate in the strike informing me it was my right and choice. Ends up the strike happened, I supported the nurses at the picket line. Told my supervisor and she just said thanks for letting her know. The following week at work, I got a call from my recruiter with Flexcare expressing how Cross Country had just cancelled my contract. WHAT?!? NO ONE had informed me that was an option if I did not come in on the days of the strike. My supervisor was in surprised I found out about the cancellation and stated that they were working on trying to let me stay. I reviewed with Brittany Ouellette what she had shared with me that first day of orientation and reminded her that she did not mention any negative action if I did not go to work those strike days. Brittany Ouellette stated there were multiple emails from Cross Country and that my recruiter knew and that she did tell me. FLAT OUT LIES!!! I'm a responsible adult and even more so when it comes to my nursing career and patients. If I would have know the outcome would have been different. DO NOT WORK WITH CROSS COUNTRY!! If you cross paths with Brittany Ouellette, do not believe anything she says.

I am registered with several travel companies. My very 1st assignment with CCTC I was ready to walk away. But after my review and conversations directly to the company, things were worked out. And they wanted to do better so they don't loose clients. I have switch over from time to time but only because this company can't get me where I wanted to be at a given time. I'm glad I stayed because my recruiter is awesome and her manager chimes in to help improve my concerns. My recruiter is the greatest. She communicates with me even if she doesn't hear from me during an assignment (which generally means everything is going well) she will check on me. I always give her a heads up on where I want to go and have a backup plan for when that can't happen. She keeps me informed and updated. If I have an issue and she doesn't know, she will find out and direct me to the correct person or help. As for the negative remarks about this company, I recommend you always talk to or email the hierarchy before you give up. There are always pros and cons to every thing we do. Also, do research and comparison with other companies. Sometimes its not the entire company, but, just one particular recruiter. And, don't feel obligated to stay with anyone who gives you a contract then, changes it without notice; they work for us.

Photo of ReGina S.

This is the worst travel company. For a 13 week assignment I had 3 recruiters was told the last one had left the country. Told an hourly wage then after I accepted assignment was told it was actually 9 dollars less. Felt like I had to take it so I didn't burn my bridges at that hospital. Guaranteed 36 hours then they tell you they can't pay you if you didn't work. Placed on call and they refused to pay that to. So run away from this company as fast as you can

Photo of Yessi R.

I agree with Quani c. They suck. I am a surgical tech and work with other travel agencies this is not the only travel agency out there go find another one I know I did. let me start off by saying that with this compan You play a lot of phone tag. Waist of time. Jazmyne Mclary is very unprofessional and told me that she was doing me a favor because she didn't work with per diem people wow really that's all I have to say about how rude she was. This recruiter is from Floridado do not let her trick you into believing the promises that she makes.

We're pausing our live coverage of the war in Ukraine for this evening.

Scroll through below to catch up on the latest developments.

Two people have been killed and two more are wounded as a result of Russian shelling in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, an official has said.

Vadym Filashkin, head of the regional military administration, said Russian forces struck the centre of Kurakhove city, killing a woman and a 40-year-old man.

Two injured people were taken to hospital, he said.

He added that the extent of the damage in the attack was being assessed.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had a seemingly lively chat ahead of a meeting of European leaders in Brussels today.

It's not known what that the two men discussed - but relations between Budapest and Kyiv have become more strained since the Russian invasion in 2022.

Hungary is Russia's closest ally in the EU and Mr Orban has maintained a friendship with Vladimir Putin while criticising the EU's strategy on Ukraine.

In December, Mr Orban blocked a €50bn aid package for Ukraine in a move that frustrated other EU leaders. He lifted the veto several months later.

Two people have been injured in a Russian drone attack on southern Ukraine, an official has said.

The Kherson regional administration said Russian forces launched an attack on the village of Novodmytrivka, leaving a 66-year-old man and 71-year-old woman hurt.

Both have blast injuries and have been taken to hospital for treatment, it said on Telegram.

The US, Israel and Ukraine are all in talks to provide Ukraine with up to eight Patriot air defence systems, according to the Financial Times.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly called for NATO members to send his country the US-made Patriot systems as it battles intensifying Russian attacks.

The FT said the deal would likely involve Israel first sending the systems it plans to retire to the US, before they are handed over to Kyiv.

Sources with knowledge of the negotiations told the paper the outlines of the deal have been discussed between ministers and senior officials from each of the three countries.

Mr Zelenskyy said in May that Kyiv urgently needed at least seven more Patriot missile systems to ward off Russian strikes against its power grid, civilian areas and military targets.

Pictures have emerged this evening of the aftermath of Russia's latest airstrike on the northeastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv.

Emergency services said earlier that five people were injured and buildings were damaged in the attack (see 17.55 post).

Russian forces launched an assault on a new front in Kharkiv in May, after months of fighting focused on the east.

Ukrainian troops have repelled Russian forces from a neighbourhood in the frontline town of Chasiv Yar, a Ukrainian military official has said.

Nazar Voloshin, a spokesman for the Khortytsia operational-strategic group, told the Interfax-Ukraine news agency that Russian forces had been pushed out of the Kanal neighborhood in the east of the town.

Mr Voloshin claimed Moscow's forces were not slowing down in their push to break through in Chasiv Yar, and said two assault operations were ongoing.

"Ukrainian defenders reliably hold the defence in this area and give a decent rebuff to the Russian aggressor," he told the agency.

For context: Chasiv Yar, a strategically-important town in the eastern Donetsk region, has long been a Russian target.

It has been pummelled by Russian air, artillery and drone strikes for months now, as Moscow views the town as a gateway to launch direct offensives against several Ukrainian "fortress cities".

Chasiv Yar had a pre-war population of more than 12,000, but now only a few hundred residents remain.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged EU leaders to make good on their promises to provide his country with military aid after the bloc signed a security agreement underlining its support for Kyiv in the long term.

"Fulfilment of every promise is important, not only in terms of protecting lives but also to destroy the Russian illusion that they will achieve something by war," he said at the summit in Brussels today.

The Ukrainian president thanked countries that have so far promised equipment and arms aid, but pointed out that they were "needed urgently on the battlefield".

He also urged more help on "the urgent things - air defence, that is one".

The EU-Ukraine security agreement entrenches the EU's commitment to help Ukraine in nine areas of security and defence policy - including arms deliveries, military training, defence industry cooperation and demining,

In essence, it encapsulates what the 27-nation bloc has been doing for the country since the start of the war.

But the EU has made a specific commitment to the "predictable, efficient, sustainable and long-term provision of military equipment" for Ukraine.

Kyiv in return has promised to uphold European values and continue on its reform path in preparation to join the EU.

Five people have been injured in Russian airstrikes in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, according to emergency services.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine said the strikes hit a residential area of the region, partially destroying one building and damaging others - including a school - as well as cars.

Crews at the scene said five people were hurt.

The windows and gates of the local fire station were also damaged, the emergency service said.

While the apparent gains made by Russia during its spring offensive in Kharkiv were the focus of much of the news coverage of the way in May, a new report indicates any progress made by Vladimir Putin's troops came at a significant cost.

According to UK and other Western intelligence agency sources cited by the New York Times, more than 1,000 Russian soldiers were injured or killed each day last month.

However, the newspaper also cites US officials as saying Moscow is continuing to recruit between 25,000 and 30,000 new soldiers a month - roughly as many as it is losing from the battlefield.

American officials told the outlet that Russia achieved a critical objective of Mr Putin in creating a buffer zone along the border to make it more difficult for the Ukrainians to strike into the country.

But, the Western officials said, this did not threaten Kharkiv and was ultimately stopped by Ukrainian forces.
