These initiatives offer an extraordinary chance to connect with the most authentic and lesser-known aspects of the United Arab Emirates . One of the most intriguing experiences, in our opinion, is the Cultural Lunches in the Historic District of Al Bastakiya . Here, you can sample various traditional local specialties and engage in conversations with locals about customs and traditions, including religious ones.

If you wish to admire the interiors of the Jumeirah Mosque and learn more about Islam and its rituals, you could participate in one of the guided tours . These tours provide an interesting and broad – albeit concise – overview of local customs, prayers, and religious traditions. However, there is some flexibility as long as your clothing is not transparent or overly revealing, and your shoulders and knees are covered. This applies to both men and women.

Women will need to cover their hair , so you may want to bring a scarf or something similar for this purpose. But don’t worry if you’re not adequately covered. You can borrow traditional attire like the kandoora for men and the abaya for women, as well as a sheila to cover women’s hair, free of charge. How to Get to Jumeirah Mosque

Jumeirah Mosque Visiting Hours

Non-muslin tourists can visit the Jumeirah Mosque only on guided tours , which are conducted at 10:00 and 14:00 daily, except on Fridays. The exhibitions in the majlis are open every day from 9:00 to 17:00, with the exception of Fridays. For Muslims who wish to visit for prayer , the mosque is open every day, typically until 8:00 pm, although these times may vary.

Which Other Mosques in Dubai Are Open to Non-Muslim Visitors?

Don’t believe anyone who tells you that the Jumeirah Mosque is the only mosque in Dubai open to visitors. Anyone who says this likely has a superficial understanding of Dubai or has never visited. As a local, I can assure you that there are several other fascinating mosques in the city. Some of these are open to non-Muslim visitors , and even better, some offer free admission!

One of the most beautiful is the Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque , inspired by the Ottoman style of Istanbul’s Blue Mosque . Although it may not be widely known among tourists, it stands as one of the largest mosques in the UAE and welcomes all visitors during non-prayer times. The Grand Mosque of Bur Dubai – located opposite the Dubai Museum – is also open to non-Muslim visitors (free of charge, with tours at 9:30 from Sunday to Thursday), as is the beautiful Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al Mulla Mosque in Dubai Marina .

Other interesting mosques can only be visited externally, such as the Al Salam Mosque and the beautiful Imam Hussein Mosque , also known as the Iranian Mosque (which is sometimes open for visits, just ask on-site). About Jumeirah Mosque

The mosque has no entrance fee, but the guided tour costs AED 25 per person. There is no need to make a reservation, but visitors must arrive at the mosque 30 minutes before the tour begins.

Location and how to reach Jumeirah Mosque

The mosque is located in the upscale neighborhood of Jumeirah 1, along the Jumeirah Beach Road. It is easily accessible by various means of transportation which is what makes it one of the most visited tourist destinations.

The mosque is only 20 minutes by car from Dubai International Airport. Taxis and Uber are both widely available and reasonably priced modes of transportation in Dubai. If you are driving, stay on "Jumeirah Beach Road" until you reach the mosque. There is plenty of parking available near the mosque.

The Mosque is also easily accessible by public bus. You can take the E201 bus from Burjuman Metro Station and get down at the “Jumeirah Mosque” stop. Otherwise, you can also take the starting bus from Al Ghubaiba Bus Station and get off at the ‘Jumeirah Mosque’ stop. Once you exit the bus, you will see the mosque just a few steps away. Buses 8, 9 and X28 also stop near the mosque.

To reach the mosque through metro, you need to first take the red line to Union Metro Station and change to the green line towards Al Jadaf Metro Station. Get down at BurJuman Metro Station and follow the signs to Jumeirah Beach Road until you reach the mosque. You can also directly take the green line from Al Jadaf station to the BurJuman station.

Best time to visit the Jumeirah Mosque

Even though the guided tours usually take place during the day, the best time to visit Jumeirah Mosque is around sunset, when the setting sun illuminates the mosque. It is a beautiful sight to see and photograph!

Things to know before visiting

• Wear modest clothing when visiting the mosque. According to the mosque’s dress code women should cover their hair and keep their shoulders covered whereas men should cover full length clothing covering from below their knees. You can also borrow the traditional attire from the mosque itself. • Plan your visit properly. Make sure you are awake of the prayer times in Dubai as visitors are not permitted inside the mosque during prayer times. Aim to reach at least 30 minutes early than the tour time. • Remove your footwear before entering the Mosque. • Do not touch or damage any material displayed in the mosque. • Since a mosque is a place of worship don’t litter, be respectful and behave modestly.

VISITOR CODE OF CONDUCT AT SHEIKH ZAYED GRAND MOSQUE CENTRE

Visitors rights and duties, first: regulations regarding visiting sheikh zayed grand mosque centre.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre provides its esteemed worshippers and visitors with all services required to facilitate their access to the mosque's premises, allow them to visit exhibitions, attend occasions, and participate in all other activities and events held or organized by the Centre. The Centre shall bear no liability; for any harm that may occur to worshippers and visitors or any damage incurred by worshippers and visitors during their presence at the mosque or during the use of any of its facilities or structures under its jurisdiction.

SZGMC, without prejudice to criminal or Civil responsibility, reserves the right to deny or exclude anyone from having access or being present at the mosque or to have access to its premises or be present at any of them; as a result of causing disturbance to others or due to misconduct, or causing harm to individuals, or any of the Centre’s assets or found to be in breach of any duties as set in the present document and as perceived and judged to be appropriate by the Centre’s management on the matter, and for a period it sees fit unless a written apology is put forward and is accepted by the Centre’s management in which he/she pledged not to repeat the offense in the future.

Second: Visitors’ rights and obligations

• Visitors are entitled to receive a cultural tour offered per high professional standards that will enrich their knowledge about the mosque, subject to the availability of a cultural tour specialist.
• Visitors are entitled to review the available services and learn how to attain and enjoy them.
• Visitors may inform the Visitors' Services' team about any particular requirement not cited in the official literature
• Visitors are entitled to receive the highest quality of customer service.
• Visitors are entitled to review the Centre’s rules and regulations
• Visitors are entitled to attain and benefit from the services within a common framework of mutual respect amongst all cultures.
• Visitors are entitled to enjoy high standards of safety and comfort during their presence at the mosque or any of its facilities.
• People of determination and elderly visitors/senior citizens are entitled to receive the highest quality of services while present at the mosque or any of its facilities.
• The Centre shall commit to resolving any matter related to the visitors’ safety or the services provided to them.

Visitors are required to uphold the sanctity of the mosque as a place of worship and adhere to the Centre’s operative regulations, including adherence to the following terms:

• Adherence to all the Centre's rules and regulations and adherence to all guidelines delivered by its staff.
• Women can select any type of women attire, provided that they are loose-fitting until the ankles and have sleeves that go all the way to the wrists. Full hair coverage is also necessary while avoiding transparent, tight-fitting or revealing attire.
• While men , can select any type of men’s attire; however, it is preferable to select clothing that covers the entire legs. Transparent, tight-fitting or sleeveless shirts should be avoided.
• Carrying inflammable items, fireworks, electronic cigarettes of all kinds and categories, lighters, sharp items, weapons, whistles, laser beams, and loudspeakers is strictly prohibited.
• Carrying or bringing dolls and stuffed animals inside the mosque is prohibited, regardless of their nature.
• Carrying and using masks, flags, slogans, and all kinds of symbols is prohibited.
• Expressing intimacy in any form what’s so ever is strictly prohibited.
• Considering the privacy of other Worshippers / Visitors, maintaining serenity, and keeping calm while at the mosque: (reducing voices and setting mobile phones on silent mode).
• Excluding water, food, beverages are not allowed. While smoking or sleeping and laying in the mosque are also prohibited and any other behavior that does not comply with the sanctity of the place.
• Caution and proper precaution shall be taken while exploring the mosque and its facilities, ex: (the slippery floorings paved with particular kinds of marble and other such precautions).
• Preserving the mosque’s assets and facilities, as any damage of any sort, shall be compensated by those responsible for the damage.
• Looking after personal possessions and belongings, the Centre shall not bear any liability for any lost or damaged items.
• Observing the mosque's sanctity while carrying out any form of photography, avoid laying, or misbehaving during the visit or while taking photos at the designated photo stops.
• Visitors shall adhere to taking photographs only at the designated photo stops.
• Return all borrowed items, including but not limited to (audio, and e-guides, holy Quran…. etc.), and adhere to using them as per the guidelines, and accordingly preserve and return them according to the rules in place. Visitors shall be charged for any damaged borrowed items regardless of the cause of damage.
• Visitors are fully responsible for their children or people of determination accompanying them.
• Any rituals or behavior that fail to observe the sanctity or statues of the mosque is strictly forbidden.
• All forms of photography for commercial or media purposes are prohibited, so is the use of professional photography equipment, unless carrying a permit issued by the Centre in regards. Taking photos for personal use using non-professional equipment is permitted.
• Overnight stay of vehicles or parking at any of the mosque's facilities is prohibited between 11:00 pm and 4:00 am.

Third: Lost And Found Items Policy At Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre

• The Centre does not bear any responsibility towards securing personal possessions and belongings.
• Those who find lost items are requested to hand them over to the Information Desk. The Centre does not bear any liability for any damage or misplacement of the found items.
• In the event of finding any personal belongings (ID, Passport,.etc.), which its owners do not claim, shall be submitted to the local police by the Centre within 24 hours.
• The Centre stores all lost items for a maximum period of three (3) months, and when that period expires, they are handed over to the local police to take all required actions in accordance with procedures in place in this regard.
• Owners of any found items requesting the Centre send it to them shall bear all liability and delivery charges.

Fourth: Tour Groups and Those Who Fall Under This Category:

• All tourist groups or private visits must complete all booking procedures before their visit. In the event of cancelation, they are kindly requested to notify the visitor services team to accommodate other groups.
• All tour operators and those accompanying private visits shall provide the visitors with adequate attire. All attires must be modest in compliance with the Centre’s dress code, while they must also commit to informing those accompanying them in advance about the Mosque entry regulations and refrain from bringing along those who fail to comply with them.
• Tour operators and those who fall under this category shall allocate at least one person to accompany their visitors on their behalf and shall be accountable for their conduct, behavior, and any damage they cause throughout their presence at the mosque or any of its facilities.
• Tour operators and those who fall under this category shall adhere to all the Centre's rules and regulations. In the event of violating any of the Centre’s rules and regulations, the Centre reserves the right to deny access to the mosque or any of its facilities which does not preclude seeking all necessary legal proceedings against them.
• Commit to all pre-booked visits to the mosque. Visit will not be confirmed unless booked in advance.
• The Centre’s administration may cancel any visits, at any time, without prior notice.

Fifth: General Guidelines

• In the event of any of the Centre’s rules and regulations, or any guidelines issued by it, being violated, the Centre reserves the right to deny those who committed the violation access to the mosque or any of its facilities or seek any legal proceedings against them.
• The Centre shall not be liable for any harm caused to those present at the mosque or any of its facilities.
• The named persons in contract with the Centre shall commit to ensuring themselves against any potential damage that may result from executing its commitments as per contract, whether caused by any of its workers, tools, equipment, or anything else. They shall be solely responsible for the damages.
• Except for authorized aircraft, it is strictly prohibited to fly aircraft or flying objects that fall within this category over the mosque or any of its facilities.
• The Centre reserves the right to monitor and carry out surveillance operations of its premises.
• The visitor can complain or give suggestions by placing them into the suggestion box or by filling out forms available, for such purposes, on Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre’s official website. All complaints and suggestions will be replied to if possible.
• Those with complaints or who have endured harm shall first resort to amicably settling the issue with Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre.
• Adhere to prior booking the mosque's visits. Visits will not be confirmed without prior booking.
• Commit to cooperating with the Centre's staff and security personnel.

All worshippers and visitors are requested to observe the rules and regulations adopted in the Centre while present at the mosque to ensure the Centre to successfully achieves its mission and can provide worshippers and visitors with the utmost services.

Accordingly the Centre’s administration would like to draw your attention to that it will confiscate all devices or phones belonging to those who carry out filming and photography in a manner that violates the rules and regulations adopted in the mosque and its facilities until legal actions are taken against those in violation of the Centre’s operative laws and regulations.

As the Centre's administration in its strive to provide top notch service to all, calls upon worshippers and visitors to abide by the Centre’s regulations and to observe all obligations in place.

أحكام وضوابط عامة لزيارة جامع الشيخ زايد الكبير

حقوق وواجبات الزوار, أولاً: ضوابط زيارة مركز جامع الشيخ زايد الكبير.

يقدم مركز جامع الشيخ زايد الكبير الخدمات اللازمة لتمكين المصلين والزوار الكرام من الدخول إلى مقر الجامع، وزيارة المعارض التي يقيمها، وحضور المناسبات والفعاليات والأنشطة التي ينظمها المركز، دون أن يتحمل أي مسؤولية عن الأضرار التي قد تلحق بالمصلين والزوار، أو الأضرار التي يتسبب بها المصلي أو الزائر أثناء تواجده فيه، أو أثناء استخدامه المرافق والمنشآت التي تقع تحت إدارة المركز.

كما يحق للمركز - ودون إخلاله بالمسؤولية الجزائية أو المدنية - منع أي شخص من دخول الجامع أو الأماكن المرفقة به أو التواجد في أي منها في حال ارتكابه أي فعل من شأنه إزعاج الآخرين، أو في حال تصرفه تصرفًا غير لائق أو إحداثه ضررًا من أي نوع بالمركز أو بالأشخاص الموجودين به، أو إخلاله بأي من الواجبات المفروضة بموجب هذه الوثيقة، وذلك وفق ما تقدره إدارة المركز في هذا الشأن، وللمدة التي تراها مناسبة، ما لم يقدم اعتذارًا مكتوباً يقبله المركز، يتعهد من خلاله بعدم تكرار المخالفة التي ارتكبها.

ثانياً: حقوق وواجبات الزوار

• يحق للزائر الحصول على جولة ثقافية بمستوى عالٍ من الاحترافية، تثري معرفته بالجامع، وذلك بحسب توفر أخصائي جولات ثقافية.
• يحق للزائر الاطلاع على الخدمات المتاحة، والتعرف على سبل الاستفادة منها.
• يمكن للزائر إبلاغ فريق خدمات الزوار بأي متطلبات خاصة، لم تذكر في المرفقات المعتمدة.
• يحق للزائر الحصول على مستوى متميز من خدمة العملاء.
• يحق للزائر الاطلاع على نظم ولوائح المركز.
• يحق للزائر الحصول على الخدمات في إطار عام، يتسم بالاحترام المتبادل بين جميع الثقافات.
• يحق للزائر الحصول على مستويات عالية من معايير السلامة والراحة خلال وجوده في الجامع، أو أيٍ من مرافقه.
• يحق للزائر من أصحاب الهمم وكبار السن، الحصول على مستوى متميز من الخدمة خلال وجوده في الجامع، أو أيٍ من مرافقه.
• يلتزم المركز باتخاذ الإجراءات الفورية اللازمة لحل أي مشكلة تتعلق بسلامة الزائر، أو الخدمات المقدمة له.

على الزائر، مراعاة قدسية وحرمة الجامع، كمكان مخصص للعبادة، واحترام الأنظمة المتبعة فيه، بما في ذلك التقيد بالأحكام الآتية:

• يجب الالتزام بالنظم والقواعد النافذة في المركز، كما يجب الالتزام بالتعليمات الصادرة من موظفيه.
• أ‌. بالنسبة للنساء: يمكن ارتداء أي نوع من الملابس النسائية، على أن تكون ملابس طويلة حتى الكعبين، وأكمام طويلة حتى الرسغين، مع تغطية كامل الشعر، وتجنب ارتداء الملابس الشفافة أو الضيقة أو المقطعة.
• ب‌. بالنسبة للرجال: يمكن ارتداء أي نوع من أنوع الملابس الرجالية، ويفضل ارتداء ملابس تغطي كامل الساقين، وتجنب ارتداء الملابس الشفافة، أو الضيقة، أو القمصان بدون أكمام.
• يمنع منعًا باتًّا حمل أو إدخال المواد القابلة للاشتعال والألعاب النارية والمفرقعات والسجائر بمختلف أنواعها وفئاتها، والولاعات، والأدوات الحادة، والأسلحة، والصفارات، ومؤشرات الليزر، ومكبرات الصوت.
• يمنع حمل أو إدخال الدمى والحيوانات بجميع أنواعها.
• يمنع إدخال واستخدام أقنعة الوجه، والأعلام، والشعارات، والرموز، بشتى أنواعها.
• يمنع منعًا باتًا إظهار المشاعر الحميمة بأي شكل من الأشكال.
• يجب مراعاة خصوصية المصلين والزوار الآخرين، كما يجب الحفاظ على السكينة، والالتزام بالهدوء أثناء الوجود في الجامع: (خفض الصوت، ضبط الهواتف المتحركة على الوضع الصامت).
• يمنع تناول الطعام أو الشراب -باستثناء الماء-، كما يمنع التدخين، والنوم أو الاستلقاء في الجامع، أو الجلوس في غير الأماكن المخصصة لذلك، أو القيام بأي تصرفات لا تتفق مع حرمته.
• يجب أخذ الحيطة والحذر خلال التجوال في رحاب الجامع ومرافقه، لاسيما على الأرضيات الزلقة، والمرصوفة بأنواع خاصة من الرخام، وغير ذلك.
• يجب الحفاظ على ممتلكات الجامع ومرافقه، ويُلزَم من يحدث ضررًا بأي منها بالتعويض عن الأضرار الواقعة.
• يجب الحفاظ على الممتلكات والمتعلقات الشخصية، حيث لا يتحمل المركز أي مسؤولية حيال ضياع أو تلف أي منها.
• تجنب أي أوضاع أو تصرفات تتنافى مع قدسية الجامع وحرمته خلال التقاط الصور، كالجلوس والاستلقاء، أو ما شابه ذلك من أوضاع غير لائقة.
• يلتزم الزائر في حال رغبته بالتصوير داخل الجامع بالمناطق المعتمدة للتصوير فقط.
• يجب على من يستعير أي من ممتلكات المركز، ومنها على سبيل المثال لا الحصر (جهاز الدليل الصوتي، جهاز الدليل الإلكتروني، المصاحف ...إلخ) الالتزام باستخدامها وفقا للتعليمات، والحفاظ عليها، وإعادتها وفقًا للإجراءات المتبعة، ويلتزم بالتعويض عن أي ضرر يقع لأي منها، سواءً كان ذلك نتيجة خطأ أو إهمال أو غير ذلك.
• يتحمل الزائر، المسؤولية الكاملة عن الأطفال وذوي الرعاية الخاصة، الذين برفقته.
• تُمنع ممارسة أي طقوس، أو القيام بأي سلوك، أو تصرف، لا يتلاءم مع مكانة الجامع وقدسيته.
• يمنع منعًا باتًا التصوير بغرض الاستخدام التجاري أو الإعلامي، أو استخدام أدوات ومعدات التصوير الاحترافي، إلا بعد الحصول على تصريح مسبق من إدارة المركز، ويستثنى من ذلك التصوير لأغراض شخصية، بمعدات غير احترافية.
• يمنع مبيت المركبات أو وقوفها في أي من مواقف الجامع، وذلك ما بين الساعة الحادية عشر مساءً والرابعة صباحاً.

ثالثًا: سياسة المفقودات والمعثورات في جامع الشيخ زايد الكبير:

• لا يتحمل المركز مسؤولية الحفاظ على الممتلكات أو المتعلقات الشخصية.
• على من يجد أي مفقودات، تسليمها لمكتب الاستعلامات، ولا يتحمل المركز مسؤولية أي تلف أو نقص في الأشياء التي يُعثر عليها.
• ستُسَلَم المتعلقات الشخصية أو الوثائق الثبوتية (هوية، جواز سفر، ...) التي تم العثور عليها إلى الشرطة المحلية، إن لم يتسلمها أصحابها خلال 24 ساعة.
• يحتفظ المركز بالأشياء المفقودة التي عثر عليها، لمدة لا تزيد على ثلاثة أشهر. وبانقضاء هذه المدة، يتم تسليمها إلى الشرطة المحلية، لإجراء اللازم بشأنها، وفقًا للإجراءات النافذة في هذا الشأن.
• يتحمل مالك (المفقودات) التي عثر عليها، والذي يرغب باستلامها، مسؤولية وتكاليف إيصالها إليه.

رابعًا: ضوابط زيارة المجموعات السياحية ومن في حكمها

• على المجموعات السياحية والزيارات الخاصة، التأكد من إكمال إجراءات الحجز قبل الزيارة، وفي حالة إلغاء الزيارة، يرجى إبلاغ فريق خدمات الزوار بذلك، ليتسنى الاستفادة من تلك الفترة لصالح مجموعات أخرى.
• على الشركات السياحية والمرافقين للزيارات الخاصة، توفير الزي المناسب للقادمين معهم، والذي يتسم بالحشمة، وفقًا لضوابط اللباس المعتمدة، والالتزام بإعلام مرافقيهم مسبقًا بضوابط دخول الجامع، وعدم جلب أي شخص لا يلتزم بذلك.
• تلتزم الشركات السياحية ومن في حكمها، بتوفير مرافق على الأقل، مع الزائرين القادمين عن طريقها، يكون مسؤولاً عن سلوكهم وتصرفاتهم، وأي ضرر يقومون به خلال تواجدهم في الجامع أو أيٍ من مرافقه.
• على الشركات السياحية ومن في حكمها الالتزام بالقواعد والأنظمة النافذة في المركز، ويحق للمركز عند مخالفة أي منها أو مخالفة التعليمات الصادرة عنه أن يمنع المخالف من التواجد في الجامع أو في أي من مرافقه، ولا يمنع ذلك من اتخاذ أي إجراء قانوني ضده.
• الالتزام بالحجز المسبق لزيارة الجامع، ولن يتم تأكيد الزيارة في حال عدم الحجز مسبقًا.
• يحق لإدارة المركز إلغاء الزيارة للجامع في أي وقت ودون إخطار سابق.

خامسًا: ضوابط عامة

• عند مخالفة أي من القواعد والأحكام النافذة، أو عند مخالفة التعليمات الصادرة، يحق للمركز أن يمنع المخالف من التواجد في الجامع، أو في أي من مرافقه، ولا يمنع ذلك من اتخاذ أي إجراء قانوني ضده.
• لا يتحمل المركز أي مسؤولية عن الأضرار، التي قد تلحق بالمتواجدين في الجامع أو أي من مرافقه.
• تلتزم الأشخاص الاعتبارية التي تتعاقد مع المركز بالتأمين على الأضرار المحتملة التي قد تنتج عند تنفيذها الالتزام المتعاقد عليه، سواء كان ذلك نتيجة أي من أعمالها أو أدواتها أو آلاتها أو غير ذلك، وتكون وحدها المسؤولة عن تلك الأضرار.
• يمنع منعا باتا تحليق الطائرات أو ما في حكمها فوق الجامع أو أي من مرافقه، باستثناء الطائرات المصرح لها.
• للمركز الحق في مراقبة وتصوير الأماكن الخاضعة له.
• للزائر الحق أن يتقدم بالشكاوى أو المقترحات، وذلك بوضعها في صندوق المقترحات، أو من خلال تعبئة النموذج المتاح لذلك عبر الموقع الإلكتروني الرسمي لمركز جامع الشيخ زايد الكبير، وسيراعى التواصل مع صاحب الشكوى أو المقترح ما أمكن ذلك.
• يلتزم من لديه شكوى أو تعرض لضرر، باللجوء أولاً إلى تسوية ودية مع مركز جامع الشيخ زايد الكبير.
• الالتزام بالتعاون مع موظفي المركز ورجال الأمن.

يتعين على جميع مرتادي الجامع الالتزام بكافة اللوائح والأنظمة المفروضة والمعمول بها في المركز، والتقيد بها في الجامع، وذلك ضمانا لتحقيق رسالة المركز وتقديم أفضل الخدمات للزوار والمصلين.

وتؤكد إدارة المركز أنه سيتم التحفظ على جميع الأجهزة والهواتف التي يستخدمها أصحابها للتصوير بطريقة تتعارض مع أحكام وضوابط التصوير المعتمدة في الجامع ومرافقه، لحين اتخاذ الإجراءات القانونية بحق المتسبب بالإخلال بتلك الضوابط وفق اللوائح النافذة في المركز.

وإذ تحرص إدارة المركز على تقديم أفضل خدمة للجميع، فإنها تهيب بهم الالتزام بأنظمة المركز، ومراعاة كافة الواجبات المفروضة عليهم.

شیخ زاید گرینڈ مسجد سینٹر اپنے معزز نمازیوں اور زائرین کو مسجد کے احاطے تک رسائی کو آسان بنانے ، انہیں نمائشوں میں جانے ، مواقع میں شرکت کرنے ، اور مرکز کے زیر اہتمام یا منعقد ہونے والی دیگر تمام سرگرمیوں اور تقریبات میں حصہ لینے کی اجازت دینے کے لیے تمام ضروری خدمات فراہم کرتا ہے ۔ مرکز عبادت گزاروں اور زائرین کو پہنچنے والے کسی بھی نقصان یا نمازیوں اور زائرین کو مسجد میں ان کی موجودگی کے دوران یا اس کے دائرہ اختیار میں اس کی کسی بھی سہولت یا ڈھانچے کے استعمال کے دوران ہونے والے کسی بھی نقصان کے لیے کوئی ذمہ داری برداشت نہیں کرے گا ۔

ایس زیڈ جی ایم سی ، مجرمانہ یا سول ذمہ داری سے تعصب کے بغیر ، کسی کو مسجد تک رسائی حاصل کرنے یا اس میں موجود ہونے یا اس کے احاطے تک رسائی حاصل کرنے یا ان میں سے کسی میں موجود ہونے سے انکار یا خارج کرنے کا حق محفوظ رکھتا ہے ۔ دوسروں کو پریشانی کا باعث بننے یا بدانتظامی کی وجہ سے ، یا افراد ، یا مرکز کے کسی اثاثے کو نقصان پہنچانے کے نتیجے میں یا موجودہ دستاویز میں طے شدہ کسی بھی فرائض کی خلاف ورزی کرتے ہوئے پایا گیا ہے اور جیسا کہ مرکز کی انتظامیہ کے ذریعہ اس معاملے پر مناسب سمجھا اور فیصلہ کیا گیا ہے ، اور اس مدت کے لئے جب تک کہ تحریری معافی پیش نہ کی جائے اور مرکز کی انتظامیہ اسے قبول نہ کرے جس میں اس نے مستقبل میں اس جرم کو نہ دہرانے کا وعدہ کیا تھا ۔

دوم: زائرین کے حقوق اور ذمہ داریاں

• زائرین اعلی پیشہ ورانہ معیار کے مطابق پیش کردہ ثقافتی دورہ حاصل کرنے کے حقدار ہیں جو ثقافتی دورے کے ماہر کی دستیابی کے تابع مسجد کے بارے میں ان کے علم کو تقویت بخشے گا

سوم: شیخ زید گرینڈ مسجد سنٹر میں گمشدہ اور پائی جانے والی اشیاء کی پالیسی

• Os visitantes têm direito a receber a mais alta qualidade de atendimento ao cliente.
• Os visitantes têm direito a rever as regras e regulamentos do Centro
• Os visitantes têm o direito de obter e beneficiar dos serviços num quadro comum de respeito mútuo entre todas as culturas.
• Os visitantes têm direito a usufruir de elevados padrões de segurança e conforto durante a sua presença na mesquita ou em qualquer das suas instalações.
• Pessoas com necessidades especiais e visitantes idosos/idosos têm direito a receber serviços da mais alta qualidade enquanto estiverem presentes na mesquita ou em qualquer uma das suas instalações.
• O Centro compromete-se a resolver qualquer questão relacionada com a segurança dos visitantes ou dos serviços que lhes são prestados.

Os visitantes são obrigados a preservar a santidade da mesquita como local de culto e aderir aos regulamentos operacionais do Centro, incluindo a adesão aos seguintes termos:

• Observar a santidade da Mesquita ao realizar qualquer tipo de fotografia, evitar deitar ou se comportar mal durante a visita ou ao tirar fotos nas areas designadas para fotografias .
• Os visitantes devem restringir-se apenas as areas designadas para tirar fotos .

Terceiro: Política de itens perdidos e achados no Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center

• O Centro não assume qualquer responsabilidade pela guarda de bens e pertences pessoais.
• Pede-se a quem encontrar objetos perdidos que os entreguem no Balcão de Informações. O Centro não se responsabiliza por qualquer dano ou extravio dos itens encontrados.
• No caso de se encontrarem quaisquer objetos pessoais (BI, Passaporte,.etc.), que os seus titulares não reclamem, devem ser apresentados à polícia local pelo Centro no prazo de 24 horas.
• O Centro armazena todos os itens perdidos por um período máximo de 3 (três) meses e, quando esse prazo expira, são entregues à polícia local para tomar todas as medidas necessárias de acordo com os procedimentos em vigor a esse respeito.
• Os proprietários de quaisquer objetos encontrados que solicitem ao Centro que os enviem arcarão com todas as responsabilidades e despesas de envio e entrega.

Quarto: Grupos de turismo e aqueles que se enquadram nesta categoria:

• Todos os grupos de turistas ou visitas privadas devem completar todos os procedimentos de reserva antes da sua visita. Em caso de cancelamento, solicita-se a gentileza de notificar a equipe de atendimento ao visitante para acomodar outros grupos.
• Todos os operadores turísticos e acompanhantes de visitas privadas devem fornecer aos visitantes vestuário adequado. Todos os trajes devem ser modestos de acordo com o código de vestimenta do Centro, mas também devem se comprometer a informar antecipadamente os acompanhantes sobre os regulamentos de entrada na Mesquita e evitar trazer aqueles que não os cumprirem
• Os operadores turísticos e os que se enquadrem nesta categoria devem atribuir pelo menos uma pessoa para acompanhar os seus visitantes em seu nome e responder pela sua conduta, comportamento e quaisquer danos que causem durante a sua presença na Mesquita ou em qualquer das suas instalações .
• Os operadores turísticos e os que se enquadrem nesta categoria devem respeitar todas as regras e regulamentos do Centro. Eles serão os únicos responsáveis pelos danos.

Sexto: Directrices Generales

How to Visit Jumeirah Mosque in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The many mosques of Dubai are perhaps one of the most beautiful aspects of the city, and Jumeirah Mosque happens to be one of the best. Intricate, Islamic architecture and domed roofs adorn even the simplest of streets. If you’re a non-Muslim, you’ll find that the majority of mosques in Dubai can only be admired from the outside, however Jumeirah Mosque, happens to be one of the exceptions.

As a bit of a nerd for history and culture, and well, admittedly someone who just loves intricate detail, I’ve always found myself fascinated with Islamic art and architecture. As such, even glimpsing some of Dubai’s many mosques from the outside was high on my priority list when considering things to do in Dubai. Jumeirah Mosque’s exterior is gorgeous, and worth the visit even if it’s just from the outside.

The Mosque is designed in the Fatimid architecture style, which originated primarily in Egypt, and combines architectural elements of Egypt, Syria, Iran, and Iraq. After seeing Jumeirah Mosque, take a short walk over to Imam Hussein Mosque for a taste of Iranian architecture. Alternatively, continue towards the beach for a day at trendy beach club staple, Nikki Beach, also located nearby.

When I was searching for mosques in Dubai prior to my trip, I found more contradictions than almost any other attraction I’ve tried visiting during my travels. Oftentimes, Jumeirah Mosque is misrespresented as the ornate Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in nearby Abu Dhabi. Jumeirah Mosque is not as large, and is more beige in color, rather than white.

Claims that only two mosques are open to non-Muslims in Dubai are also not accurate. Only two of the major mosques in Dubai are officially open to the public. The majority of mosques in Dubai are closed to non-Muslims, however there are a couple smaller, but still gorgeous, mosques that offer tours to the public, and are not frequently mentioned, such as Imam Hussein Mosque, one of two Iranian mosques in Dubai.

Touring Jumeirah Mosque is a fantastic way to introduce yourself to Emirati culture and religion while in Dubai. The Mosque’s tour is offered as one of the cornerstones of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding’s “Open Doors, Open Minds,” program, which seeks to educate expatriates and visitors on the UAE’s traditions and customs, as Dubai becomes increasingly modern and cosmopolitan. After traveling to Dubai myself, I’ve sorted through some of the confusing information on visiting Jumeirah Mosque, and am here to share what you should know before going:

JUMEIRAH MOSQUE LOCATION

Jumeirah Beach Road – Jumeirah 1 – Dubai – United Arab Emirates

JUMEIRAH MOSQUE HOURS

Jumeirah Mosque is open to Muslim visitors from 10am to 8pm. If you’re not Muslim, you must check into the tourist entrance and visit at one of the guided tour times. Tours are offered every day except Friday, at 10am and 2pm. Outside of tour hours, the mosque is closed to the public for prayer.

HOW TO GET TO JUMEIRAH MOSQUE

Taxi is the best choice for reaching Jumeirah Mosque, unless you already have a rental car or prefer to ride in limousines. Taxi from my hotel in Business Bay, The Oberoi , was about 15 minute ride and roughly $5 USD. Taxi in Dubai in general is much less expensive than in other major cities, such as New York in Paris. In general, I found it to be 25-35% of the price I would pay for a cab going the same distance in New York.

As I’ve searched countless travel forums on Dubai, I’ve seen concern come up that taxi in Dubai may be similar to taxi in other Middle Eastern and North African cities, in which you need to haggle your ride fare and/or pay cash. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The official RTA taxis in Dubai are metered, and every driver has a card reader in their vehicle. What you do need to watch out for are the white Lexus cars, which do not have meters and are typically 3-4x the RTA taxi fare and approximately 2x Uber.

Taxi in Dubai is generally incredibly safe. As a solo female traveler, safety is always one of my top concerns when visiting somewhere new. Taxis in Dubai have GPS tracking, and also alert drivers when they when they’re driving to quickly. I was impressed by how safely many of my drivers in Dubai drove, compared to taxis elsewhere. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, i.e. my driver who decided texting through my 30 minute ride was a good idea, but every legitimate taxi in Dubai should have a sticker inside the car on the window with the taxi number and help line in case you need to report an issue. If you’re a solo female traveler who still isn’t comfortable taking a taxi in Dubai, keep an eye out for the pink lady cabs. These cars are driven by female drivers, and grant priority to female passengers and families with children.

Careem is a ride booking app, primarily operating in the Middle East and North Africa. It’s actually a subsidiary of Uber. Unlike Uber in Dubai, Careem has a partnership with Dubai’s RTA, which operates Dubai’s taxis and public transportation service, to allow for e-hailing taxis in addition to their limousine services that mirror Uber. Booking a taxi with Careem is slightly more expensive than finding one on the street, as you need to pay a booking fee. For long distances, Uber may end up being less expensive than Careem due to surge. Careem certainly makes hailing a taxi in Dubai easier, but in my experience, taxi in Dubai is readily available and easy to find. Drivers would actually frequently pull over if they thought that I even might need a cab without me stopping and hailing one, in an attempt to get a ride. My hotel called my taxi to get to Jumeirah Mosque, and I had no issue finding one to leave, even on a side street.

Uber in Dubai doesn’t operate in the same way it does in the United States. Unlike in the United States, all Uber cars in Dubai are limousines, and therefore more high end vehicles. It’s a great option still if you want to be able to track your ride on the app, and have a more comfortable car. I found Uber to still be much less expensive than regular taxi or Uber X in New York for the same distance, and felt as though it was a good value for the quality of the car.

Dubai is not a walking city. Allow me to repeat that: Dubai is not a walking city. I had heard it over and over before going, but didn’t really believe it. It’s so true. A good comparison to Dubai’s walkability would be Los Angeles, but honestly I think even LA might be more walkable, which is saying something.

If you’re planning on doing a lot across the city, or visiting other Emirates or cities such as Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or Hatta, you may find that a rental car is just more convenient. Fret not, there is a large, free parking lot across the street from Jumeirah Mosque. I noticed parking frequently around Dubai in general, especially in more popular areas for tourists.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Jumeirah Mosque can be reached by the Number 9 bus, for 3 AED (approximately $0.82 USD) each direction. Although public transport in Dubai is rather inexpensive, transportation is a bit scattered around the city and you may find yourself walking 15+ minutes just to reach your station. I’m all for saving money when practical, but given the low cost of taxi in Dubai, and the extremely high temperatures of the city that make any walking difficult, I can’t help but feel like taxi is a bit more worth it than dealing with public transportation.

JUMEIRAH MOSQUE ENTRANCE FEE AND TOUR

If you’re visiting the mosque for the guided tour (mandatory for non-Muslim tourists), the fee is 35 AED (approximately $9.53 USD). Tours are offered everyday except Fridays, at 10am and 2pm. Pre-booking is not necessary but is recommended, otherwise registration opens 30 minutes prior to the start of each tour.

The tour is approximately 75 minutes long, and includes traditional Emirati Fuala (traditional Emirati light refreshments such as luqaimat, dates, chebab, and Arabic coffee) 30 minutes prior to the start of the tour, so be sure to arrive early!

WHAT TO WEAR TO VISIT A MOSQUE

Mosques in the UAE tend to vary in how strict their dress code is. Some only require women to cover their arms and legs, regardless of how, while others require women to be in the traditional Emirati abaya. Hair must be covered, with a scarf or other head covering. Jumeirah Mosque’s website details that guests are expected to dress modestly, and women are required to bring a head covering.

If you would like to visit the mosque but don’t have appropriate clothing, fret not! The mosque has kandoora, the Emirati national dress for men, and abaya and sheila, the Emirati national dress and headscarf for women, to borrow if your clothing isn’t covering enough.

WHAT TO DO NEAR JUMEIRAH MOSQUE

Dubai is rather spread out, so it’s always best to try to visit nearby attractions when you can! Here are a few places to check out near Jumeirah Mosque:

IMAM HUSSEIN MOSQUE

Jumeira First – 226 Al Wasl Rd – JumeirahJumeirah 1 – Dubai – United Arab Emirates

Located just a 7 minute walk from Jumeirah Mosque, Imam Hussein Mosque boasts traditional Iranian tile architecture. This mosque does allow non-Muslims to visit on guided tours during tourist hours. Visiting hours for tourists are 8:30am to 10:30 am and 4:30pm to 6:30pm daily. Like Jumeirah Mosque, tours include Emirati fuala and traditional dress may be borrowed for those who do not have appropriate clothing.

NIKKI BEACH

Pearl Jumeirah – Dubai – United Arab Emirates

Looking to get some sun after your visit to Jumeirah Mosque? Nearby Nikki Beach offers plush day beds, private beach, and a pool. A single lounger for one comes at a price of 300 AED (approximately $81.67 USD), however 250 AED ($68.06 USD) of that fee may be applied as food and beverage credit.

WHERE TO STAY NEAR JUMEIRAH MOSQUE

The oberoi dubai.

Unless you’re looking to keep it chill and spend your trip focusing on Dubai’s beaches and resorts, I strongly recommend staying at a hotel in Downtown Dubai or Business Bay. This location will keep you in good proximity to many of the more cultural and historically rooted activities Dubai has to offer, in addition to the impressive Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.

Dubai is known for its luxury and opulent properties, but that doesn’t mean that affordable budget hotels in Dubai don’t exist! The Ibis Styles Dubai Jumeirah is located just a 15 minute walk from Jumeirah Mosque. This 3 star hotel from affordable hotel chain, Ibis, offers base room rates as low as $25 a night. Can I Visit a Dubai Mosque as a Non-Muslim?

The most beautiful mosques in dubai.

It’s no surprise how fascinating mosques are to non-Muslims, the sheer elegance and beauty of the buildings, architecturally stunning and the lessons on Islamic culture they hold within.

Whilst the call to prayer may prick the attention of many a visitor to Dubai, I bet you have been curious, can I actually go inside a mosque?

Unlike many other religious buildings around the world, as a non-Muslim, you should not simply walk up to a mosque in Dubai and expect to be allowed in.  Mosques – also known as Masjid in Arabic – in Dubai are, first and foremost a house of worship, not a tourist attraction.

That said, there ARE a few mosques in Dubai and two others in the UAE that allow non-Muslims to visit, not only admiring their beauty from the outside but providing tours and education programs within.

The most famous that visitors to Dubai are likely to be aware of is the Grand Mosque.  By this, we mean the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque which is actually located in neighbouring city Abu Dhabi, a bit over an hour away from Dubai.

Whilst it is possible to visit Abu Dhabi and the Grand Mosque on a day trip , those tight on time may be looking at options readily available with the city of Dubai.  (We will cover how to see the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque later in this post!)

Note there are also different timings and rules during the Holy Month of Ramadan

Dubai mosques that allow access to non-Muslims

So which beautiful Dubai Mosques will permit you to enter as a non-Muslim?

Jumeirah Mosque

The most well-known mosque in Dubai has been welcoming non-Muslim visitors for educational purposes for many years. Their motto is “Open doors, open minds”.

Guided tours are arranged daily (except Fridays) by The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding . They last for 75 minutes and include refreshments.

• Timings: 10:00 am & 2:00 pm
• Pre-booking not essential but recommended you arrive 30 minutes before
• Every day except Friday

Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque

Built in the late 1980s and renovated in 2003 and 2011, Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque in Dubai is another mosque in the UAE to welcome non-Muslims. The building complex includes not only a mosque but an Islamic Centre equipped with an extensive library on Islamic teachings. You can learn here about Muslim culture, medicine, art and science as well as Quran lessons.

From the exterior, you will see four distinctive minarets of 65-meters. Its great dome measures a staggering 30 metres high and huge stained glass windows flood the interior with light.

Whilst named after Umar Bin Khattab , the building is said to be inspired by Istanbul’s Blue Mosque with its Andalusian and Ottoman style. But don’t be mistaken, it is not one of Dubai’s “Blue Mosques” more on them below!

Tours at this mosque are conducted by the resident cultural guides of Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque & Centre. The focus of the tours is on the history and architecture of the mosque, along with the painting and engravings and lasts for one hour.

• Sunday to Thursday

Grand Bur Dubai Masjid

Also known as the Grand Mosque (not to be confused with the one in Abu Dhabi), this Grand Mosque can be found in the Bur Dubai area, opposite the Dubai Museum.  Situated in the oldest neighbourhood, it is one of the largest mosques in Dubai, as well as the highest in Dubai with 70m tall minarets. 

It was originally built in 1900, replaced by a newer mosque in 1960 and rebuilt again in 1998 to resemble the original mosque of 1900. It can house 1,200 worshippers.

Whilst you cannot enter the Grand Mosque Bur Dubai as a non-Muslim, you can marvel at the architecture from outside. The Minaret is of Anatolian architecture and the tallest in the city, non-Muslims have permission to climb it for stunning views over old Dubai.

Other interesting mosques in Dubai

Although not open to the non-Muslim public, amongst the 1400+ mosques in Dubai there are many other notable mosques in that capture the eye of visitors that you may be interested in viewing from outside, these include:

Iranian Mosque (Imam Hossein Mosque)

Located on Al Wasl Road in Jumeirah, this is the most famous Shia mosque in Dubai, also known as the Persian Mosque. The mosque was founded by the Iranian community in Dubai in 1979, with the aid of the Iranian Red Crescent. The architecture is inspired by quasi-Fatimid with Persian influences.

Non-Muslim visitors are reportedly allowed into the mosque on guided tours. Private Muslim tour guides can also take visitors outside of prayer times, however, we do not have an exact schedule as of early 2022.

Iranian Mosque (Ali In Abi Talib Mosque)

Located in the Bur Dubai district, near to the textile souk this is the second “Iranian Mosque” in Dubai, built with the distinctive Persian-style architecture; distinctive blues, greens, yellows and reds in beautiful floral patterns and tiled calligraphy of Quranic quotes .

Non-Muslim visitors cannot come inside this Shia mosque. However, external photography of the facade is permitted. You can spot it apart from the other Persian Mosque in Jumeirah as it lacks the two distinctive minarets and large wooden doors.

Al Salaam Mosque

Located in the Al Barsha area, near to Mall of the Emirates, this mosque catches the eye for its stunning red exterior, with white accent features and gold domes and balconies on its minarets. The architecture has been influenced by both Ottoman and Emirati culture and design features. Opened in 2014, the mosque can accommodate 1500 worshippers. Not open to the public.

Khalifa Al Tajer Mosque

Said to be Dubai’s first eco-friendly mosque, located in Deira the mosque can house 3,500 worshippers. The architecture is based on traditional Emirati Bedouin styling for cooling. It may look more “simple” than other mosques in Dubai but is notable for its size and energy efficiency in the bustling older corner of the city. Not open to the public.

Masjid Al Rahim

Masjid Al Rahim is one of the newest and most beautiful mosques in Dubai to capture the eye and curiosity of visitors. Opened in 2013, it is the only Mosque in Dubai Marina. It is particularly notable at night when its golden domes and blue minarets light up the city skyline. Not open to the public.

Zabeel Mosque

Another among the most beautiful in Dubai, Zabeel Mosque in Zabeel Park opened in 2012 with a capacity for 4,000 worshipers. Not open to the public.

Other UAE Mosques of interest

The entire of UAE is said to have over 5,000 mosques. The vast majority do not accept visitors, however here are some notable exceptions or places of history, importance and beauty you may like to include on a trip around the United Arab Emirates :

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi

As we mentioned at the outset, although not in Dubai, certainly one of the UAE’s most famous buildings is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.  The utterly stunning white marble structure with an impressive 82 domes sits proudly at the entrance to Abu Dhabi island.

Covering an impressive 22,400 square metres, including internal courtyards, with the ability to house over 41,000 worshippers at once (10,000 inside and 31,000 outside), it is the third-largest mosque in the world.

Apart from a mosque, it is also the resting place of the country’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan ; two Imams read the Quran over his resting place 24/7.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is open 7 days a week (Friday’s limited hours due to Congregational Prayer ) for non-Muslim visitors. Entry is free, as are guided tours ( see timetable here ), though they have recently added guest registration which can be done online or at the venue, bring photo identification. 

Guests are provided with the appropriate attire to attend the mosque. (Since COVID this has not been possible due to health and safety reasons, all guests must bring their own abaya or be fully covered in accordance with mosque dress code – these items can be purchased now in a small bazaar attached to the mosque underground entrance).

There are, of course, options to hire a car, take a taxi or navigate the Intercity Bus and Abu Dhabi public bus system.  We explain each of these options in much more detail here.

If you are after truly stunning photos of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, our top tip is to self-drive in order to arrive either before opening time (9:00 am Saturday to Thursday), or come much later in the afternoon when the sun is setting. It can still be crowded at this time but nowhere near as busy as mid-morning when most tour buses from Dubai arrive en masse.

• Friday’s 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (closes for Prayer) & 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm
• Ramadan : 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (Closes for Iftar – breaking of the fast), then 9:00 pm to 11:30 pm

Al Noor Mosque

Situated in neighbouring Sharjah, this stunning Ottoman-style mosque completed in 2005 was the first to open its doors to non-Muslim visitors. A guided one hour tour can be arranged by Sharjah Centre for Cultural Communication and include complimentary  qahwa (Arabic coffee).

Not only architecturally beautiful, but the mosque also overlooks the Khalid Lagoon which adds to its stunning splendour and is easily accessible from the other cultural highlights in the Heart of Sharjah.

• Every Monday and Thursday [suspended since COVID]

Sharjah Mosque

Newly completed in 2019 it is one of the newest and most impressive mosques in the UAE. It is now Sharjah’s largest mosque with grounds covering 185,000 square meters, the Mosque can take 25,000 worshippers.

Whilst the inside is for worshippers only, guests are invited to admire the mosque from the track that runs around the entire mosque complex. Learn more at visitsharjah.com

Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Fujairah

The largest mosque on the UAE’s eastern coast and second largest in the country, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque covers an area the size of three football pictures. The mosque has six minarets each 100 meters high and the great prayer hall has space for 32,000 worshippers. It is not open to the public.

Bidyah Mosque, Fujairah

Dating back to 1446 AD, this is believed to be the oldest mosque in the UAE. The mosque, constructed of mud and stone, is tiny and whilst non-muslims are not allowed to enter, it is possible to catch a peep of the interior through the doors.

The mosque still hosts daily prayers and all visitors to the site even from outside should dress modestly (women should cover their hair as well as their arms and legs). The Mosque can be seen as part of an east-coast UAE day trip.

Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Grand Mosque (Al Ain Grand Mosque)

Based in the regional city of Al Ain, Abu Dhabi Emirate, the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Grand Mosque named after the country’s current ruling President opened to the public on 21 April 2021.

Capable of housing 20,000 worshippers inside and in its external courtyards, it’s one of the country’s largest mosques measuring in at over 250,000m 2

COVID restrictions have limited entry since opening, it is unclear as yet whether it will be open to non-worshippers in the future.

Things to keep in mind visiting a Dubai Mosque

It is essential you follow the necessary protocol to enter a mosque, even as a non-Muslim:

• For women, this means arms and legs covered, as well as a scarf that covers your head. Some tours will provide women with the necessary abaya, including the Shayla or headscarf. If wearing your own clothing, keep it long and loose.
• Men must cover beyond their knees (though full-length trousers are preferable) and have shirt sleeves.

• Shoes must be left in cubbies outside the entrance to a mosque. Socks may be worn if you do not want to walk around barefoot.
• It should go without saying, you cannot take food, drinks, alcohol or cigarettes inside mosques.

Sheikh Hamdan approves second phase of preservation project for ‘treasured’ landmarks

Dubai: Under plans to preserve the heritage architecture of Dubai, 35 additional buildings and sites will be restored.

The announcement came on Sunday as Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, approved the second phase of the project.

This brings the total number of sites covered by both phases to 807 so far. The initial phase covered 17 archaeological sites, 14 historical areas, and 741 buildings.

In a video shared on social media by the Government of Dubai Media Office on Sunday, elderly residents spoke about their memories of landmarks such as the Clock Tower Roundabout, the old Dubai Airport terminal, and the “revolving restaurant” (on top of Hyatt Regency Dubai), among others.

In February, Sheikh Hamdan had reviewed the progress of the ongoing rehabilitation project for Al Fahidi Fort, Dubai’s oldest building dating back to the late 1700s.

The second phase of the wider project aims to safeguard areas, sites and buildings, which hold significant historical relevance and tell the story of Dubai’s past. The sites and buildings covered by this project serve as symbols of the emirate’s journey through the years.

This phase focuses on the preservation of 35 areas, sites, and buildings dating from the 1960s to the 1990s, following the successful completion of the first phase, which covered buildings from Dubai’s earlier history.

Global destination

Sheikh Hamdan said that the project reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to raise the emirate’s profile as a global cultural destination, and preserve its unique national character. The emirate’s heritage is an integral aspect of its identity that connects the community to its history and its roots. By protecting its heritage architecture, Dubai seeks to promote a deeper understanding among citizens, residents and visitors of what has shaped the emirate into the thriving global metropolis it is today, Sheikh Hamdan said.

He added that the preservation of heritage areas in Dubai is an ongoing endeavour aimed at preserving the cultural authenticity of areas across the emirate. The project aims to foster cultural continuity, highlighting the enduring relationship between the people and their environment. It also showcases Dubai’s historical interactions with the rest of the world as well as the influences that have shaped the emirate and the impact it has exerted globally.

'Architectural treasures'

The second phase of the project features the restoration of 35 heritage sites and buildings, including Dubai’s old neighborhoods and buildings, which Sheikh Hamdan described as an “open museum of human heritage.”

“We have a responsibility to celebrate our history and protect our architectural treasures for future generations. The heritage areas covered by the project hold the memory of decades of progress and symbolise the dawn of Dubai’s renaissance. Located in the heart of modern Dubai, these sites bridge the past with the city’s future aspirations. Dubai invites the world to witness its past, present, and the future, all together in one place,” Sheikh Hamdan added.

Sheikh Hamdan issued directives to enhance the appeal of both historical areas and modern architectural landmarks to attract more visitors. These efforts reflect a strong commitment to strengthening national identity as well as raising Dubai’s stature on the economic, cultural and tourism map.

Preserving historical landmarks

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General, Dubai Municipality, said that the Municipality is committed to preserving historical landmarks and heritage sites in Dubai. He noted that the sites and buildings included in the second phase of the project represent a significant era in Dubai’s history. The preservation efforts not only honour the historical significance of these sites but also aim to share this rich heritage with future generations.

He further mentioned that the second phase of the project encompasses the restoration of 35 sites and buildings dating from the 1960s to the 1990s.

These structures reflect Dubai’s more recent architectural history and narrate the story of the historical, cultural, social, and economic transformations that Dubai has experienced. This phase highlights the profound impact of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum’s vision, which has significantly shaped the city’s rapid development and modernisation during that period.

In the first phase of the project, Dubai Municipality focused on preserving buildings from Dubai’s earlier historical periods. This phase aimed to “document and protect” these structures, ensuring their preservation for future generations. Buildings, sites and areas covered by this phase included the Al Shindagha Heritage District, the Naif area, and Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, among others.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday confirmed the reopening of a mosque in Istanbul converted from an ancient Byzantine Orthodox church, in the face of Greek protests.

Erdogan discussed the church in a meeting in Ankara with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on a trip that was meant to strengthen the countries' relations.

"The Kariye mosque in its new form will remain open to everyone," Erdogan told a news conference alongside the Greek leader.

"We have opened our Kariye mosque for worship and visits after painstaking restoration work."

Mitsotakis had appealed against the conversion of the Holy Saviour in Chora, decorated with 14th-century frescoes of the Last Judgement that are still treasured by Christians.

He complained to Erdogan about the latest move.

"I discussed with Mr. Erdogan the conversion... I expressed my dissatisfaction to him," the Greek premier said after meeting with the Turkish leader.

"It is very important to preserve the unique cultural value of this monument, which is listed as UNESCO world heritage, so that it can remain accessible to all visitors."

The church was converted into Kariye Mosque half a century after the 1453 conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks.

It became the Kariye Museum after World War II, when Turkey sought to create a more secular republic from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire.

Erdogan in 2020 ordered the building to be reconverted into a Muslim place of worship.

His order came followed a similarly controversial ruling on the UNESCO-protected Hagia Sophia cathedral in Istanbul.

At the time of the Kariye Mosque's reopening on May 6, Greece's foreign affairs ministry called the move a "provocation".

Erdogan said on Monday he attached "great importance" to "protecting any monument that constitutes an item of UNESCO cultural heritage and to making it accessible for the benefit of our nation and all humanity."

The changes were seen as part of Erdogan's efforts to galvanise his more conservative and nationalist supporters. Erdogan's ruling AKP party has Islamist roots.

Despite the disagreement, the two leaders said they were working to normalise relations after decades of tension.

Erdogan called it an "extremely productive, honest and constructive meeting".

"We think that strengthening the spirit of cooperation between Turkey and Greece will be beneficial for both countries and for the region," Erdogan said.

He said the two sides had agreed to raise their bilateral trade from $6 billion to $10 billion.

"We have shown that, besides existing disagreements, we can turn over a new leaf," Mitsotakis said.

"We wish to intensify our bilateral contact. We continue on a positive path."

The two countries signed a cooperation agreement on disaster and emergency management, following a devastating earthquake in Turkey in February and forest fires in Greece last year.

Welcome to Dubai, the land of dreams or Utopia as we call it. Upon arrival, you'll meet up with your group for private transfer to your hotel accommodations. We  will hold a private reception during the check-in process. The rest of the night is yours to settle into your hotel and enjoy your accommodations. 

Today's highlights include a visit of the Dubai Museum that is housed in the 180-year-old Al Fahidi Fort, you will cross the Dubai Creek onboard an “Abra” (water taxi) for a visit of the Spice Souk and Gold Souk. As well as a visit of the Burj Khalifa 124th floor. Special group dinner this evening *Dress Code enforced*. 

  Visit the Emirate of Sharjah, often called the cultural center of the Middle East. Later this afternoon, experience the sheer thrill of driving up and down the golden yellow sand in 4x4 quads. Drive over the high sand dunes before entering the campsite where you can relax in the tranquility of the desert and enjoy an authentic Arabian Barbeque. After the barbeque, professional dancers will demonstrate the ancient art of belly dancing. Sand boarding and Henna painting are also included. 

 Enjoy the day at leisure to relax or explore Dubai on your own. Go ziplining, visit the waterpark, explore the Dubai Mall, relax on the beach, etc. There will be plenty of afternoon parties and night parties to get into (almost everyday of the week).  

 Travel to  Abu Dhabi, passing the largest manmade seaport in the world. Stop for photos at the former residence of previous UAE president Sheikh Zayed, and admire the third biggest mosque in the world – Sheikh Zayed Mosque. The tour continues to the Al Bateen area, home to the palaces of the Royal Family. Have a shopping break in the world-famous Marina Mall before arriving at your hotel in Abu Dhabi. 

 Take your time to enjoy this full day at leisure at the beach, embark on an optional visit to Ferrari World,  Yas Marina Circuit to take a few laps around the F1 formula track, or Yas Waterworld.  

Travel back to Dubai for a chance to embark on an optional tour, explore Dubai at your own pace, or experience the Global Village (included). Global village is a one stop shop for dining and entertainment bringing over 80 different cultures across over 25 pavilions. From artisans to entertainers you can discover wonders from all four corners of the world at Global Village.

Dubai Flying Taxis: Dubai is aiming to revolutionise public transportation by introducing air taxis by 2026. This initiative is being led by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority in partnership with JOBY Aviation and Skyports Infrastructure. These aircraft are designed as robust drones, or eVTOL (Electronic Vertical Take-off and Landing) models and are capable of carrying up to four passengers and a pilot.

They are being developed to provide secure and rapid transportation between key destinations in the Emirate, positioning Dubai as the world’s first city to establish an electric air taxi service for commercial use. The trials for the air taxis are already in progress, and they are seen as a practical solution to Dubai’s traffic congestion challenges. Passengers will have the opportunity to bypass traffic and travel in nearly half the time it currently takes. Here’s everything you need to know about the Dubai Air Taxis.

Launch Date:

The UAE is set to revolutionise urban transportation by introducing fully electric air taxis in early 2026 as part of its Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) initiatives. However, the certification procedures for these cutting-edge air taxis will commence this year, in 2024. 

Selected based on their high population density and prominent tourist attractions, as per Ahmed Bahrozyan, the Chief Executive of the Public Transport Agency, in the initial phase, air taxi operations in Dubai will commence from four designated vertiports: Dubai International Airport, Palm Jumeirah, Downtown Dubai, and Dubai Marina , catering to the needs of both residents and visitors alike.

Booking and fare:

Passengers can conveniently book air taxi rides through a dedicated mobile application created by Joby Aviation. Residents and tourists will have the option to bypass traffic and travel across the Emirates, saving 40 per cent of their time, say experts.

The air taxis will have the potential to significantly cut travel time to less than 20 minutes, with the cost expected to be similar to the premium luxury ground rideshare options, such as Uber Black or Uber Comfort. However, as the service expands on a larger scale, the pricing may become more affordable, comparable to Uber X.

Hence, with the commitment to shorter travel durations, improved connectivity, and a seamless journey, Dubai’s venture into flying taxis signifies a pivotal stride in embracing upcoming transportation innovations.
