Now Open! Why These 5 Toyota Plant Experience Centers Are ‘Must Visits’

Want an inner look at Toyota North America’s past, present and future? The five experience centers at Toyota vehicle plants across North America give visitors just that. Through visual and hands-on displays, visitors get a chance to better understand advanced manufacturing.

And they’re now all open to the public!

Read below to discover what makes each unique and consider signing up for a plant tour !

Toyota Mississippi

factory tour san antonio

Opening date: June 7, 2022

Location: Blue Springs, Mississippi

What’s special about the Toyota Mississippi Experience Center?

factory tour san antonio

Toyota Mississippi’s 15,000-square-foot Experience Center was designed and built with a collaborative learning/training environment in mind.

One cool feature? An interactive light display that’s projected onto a specially painted matte gray Corolla (above). Other exhibits allow guests to try their hands at actual dexterity exercises used in Toyota training processes. And the center’s patio overlooks the marshalling yard, where Corollas are parked, sorted and loaded every day before the vehicles are transported to their new homes.

The building is in the process of becoming LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified, the most widely used green building rating system in the world, which will make it the first building in Mississippi to have that distinction. The Mississippi site is also the only North America Manufacturing Center to have two indicator species, the northern bobwhite quail and wood duck, which are often visible from the Experience Center grounds and are a component of the education provided at the center. Partnering with the Wildlife Habitat Council, the indicator species help measure the health of an ecosystem.

The Toyota Mississippi Experience Center is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.

Toyota Indiana

factory tour san antonio

Opening date: Originally opened in 2009; reopened on Sept. 26, 2022

Location: Princeton, Indiana

What’s special about the Toyota Indiana Experience Center?

factory tour san antonio

The Floating Tundra display (above) is a hit with Toyota Indiana visitors and is the No. 1 location for selfies at the center. Putting the artwork together was an experience. The parts were delivered on large sheets of plywood, along with 323 photographs. Using the pictures as a guide, an in-house, six-person team worked for six months to reassemble and suspend the display. It’s held in place with stainless steel aircraft cable. The exhibition showcases the relationship of parts coming together to make the vehicle. This idea of coalescing is an artistic rendition of assembly, which is a perfect fit for a leader in advanced manufacturing.

factory tour san antonio

The Experience Center also has a Type G Automatic Loom on display (above). The fully functional loom was invented by Toyota’s founder, Sakichi Toyoda, and is one of only two located outside Japan; the other is on display at Britain’s Science Museum. At the time of its creation, it was the world’s most sophisticated and economical loom. Toyoda used money from selling the Type G patent as an investment for his son Kiichiro to begin a new division of the company – the automotive division.

The Toyota Indiana Experience Center is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.

Toyota Texas

factory tour san antonio

Opening date: Originally opened in 2009; reopened on Sept. 26, 2022.

Location: San Antonio, Texas

What’s special about this Experience Center?

Toyota Texas is the only place in the world where Tundras are built. And a new vehicle rolls off the line about every 60 seconds.

What makes its Experience Center special? There are informative hands-on exhibits on the fundamentals of building the Sequoia and Tundra vehicles. One of the more popular exhibits allows visitors to test a virtual paint sprayer (above). The display is a paint booth simulation where guests can experience what it’s like to paint a Tundra or Sequoia through VR technology.

The Toyota Texas Experience Center is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.

Toyota Kentucky

factory tour san antonio

Opening date: Started tours in 1990; the first visitor center opened in 1994; reopened in Nov. 2022.

Location: Georgetown, Kentucky

What is special about this Experience Center?

Toyota Kentucky is the oldest and largest facility in North America. Its Experience Center includes interactive displays and 3D projected maps that come to life to provide a look into Toyota’s advanced production processes.

Not only do visitors learn about the company’s history, but they’re also able to witness unique methods in Toyota’s manufacturing process and learn how Toyota is improving the local community through community partnerships and investments.

One special exhibit breaks down the manufacturing process into each step, which gives visitors an up-close look at how Toyotas are built (above). The display shares Toyota’s twists on manufacturing processes that differentiate the company from competitors.

Another exhibit allows visitors to see a historic Camry (above) — it’s the first vehicle assembled by a wholly-owned Toyota plant in North America.

The Toyota Kentucky Experience Center is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.

Toyota Canada

factory tour san antonio

Location: Ontario, Canada

Opening date: Started tours in 1997; reopened on Oct. 17, 2022.

What is special about this Experience Centre?

factory tour san antonio

The Manufacturing Exhibit (above) allows guests to complete activities inspired by new team member training stations, which focus on dexterity, speed and accuracy. The exhibit is a simulation of what you find in an assembly shop. Pictured on display is the Lexus RX.

The Toyota Canada Experience Centre is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Really cool your! Great for kids, teens, adults and old people. Toyota really goes above and beyond. They have a gym at the plant where you can consult for free with PhD kinesiologists, legit dietitians, as well as doctors and nurses on staff the support their employees. They are big on ergonomics and making the job absolutely comfortable for the people working these manufacturing jobs. 22 hours to bulls Toyota Tundra from start to finish. The automation here is truly amazing! I am excited to see what is going to be in place in the next ten years. This Plant employs 7000 people in the San Antonio area. 3500 are Toyota employees and the rest are employed by companies that are part of the just in Time manufacturing. They truly have their process streamlined. This is why I will always drive Lexus. Their quality is top notch!

Worth it! My expectations of car factory were pretty low. What can they show us we don't already know, 4 wheels, engine and a frame. Done. So much more! This place is fantastic you see it all within safety reasons of course. It's a Tram ride with the tour guide. You first see a short history video then it's off to the factory part. No cell phones or camera inside factory, only in lobby area. They give you earphones so you can hear the tour guide explain every stop. You do have to set reservations. I did mine 2 weeks in advance. I had the 9am spot and we were full.

factory tour san antonio

Going to start off by saying, I may be a little bias. I'm a huge Toyota fan, we've been a Toyota family, and yes, I'm one of "those guys" that has a name for my Tundra . Been wanting to come check out "the Mecca" for a while now, to see how these amazing vehicles are made, and boy, did this place not disappoint. First off, it's free, so can't beat that, and once you see the work and methods put into this place, you won't look at your beloved truck the same ever again. This place is pretty much like Fort Knox, once you exit the visitor center. No phones, no cameras, nothing. When you pull into the main entrance, keep in mind to keep to the right to go to the Visitors center first, and you'll have to book a tour in advance online before coming, even on a Wednesday at 1:30p, our tour was completely packed. I would have hoped for a little more from the Visitor's center, but it was cool, had some neat little history and displays on the process they use to build, few interactive things you're kids would enjoy. After everyone goes through a little "intro video" you then drive your own vehicle if you came in one and not a shuttle, over to the main plant. This is where you'll leave your cameras / phones in your car and then follow the tour guide. Once you go in, I swear it feels like some futuristic movie or on the set of Wall-E in real life. You got automated robots running around with truck beds, huge giant robotic arms doing things with impossible precision, and so many workers in fork-lifts and walking around, punching buttons, drilling things, operating machines, in little pow-wow meetings looking over graphs, it's all pretty amazing. I won't go in detail of the actual tour, you just gotta come check it out for yourself. But I will say this, I would have still probably gone here even if the tour cost something, but it's free! Which is even better. So even if your a Yota fan, this is well worth the visit to see how amazing the whole entire process is to build these vehicles, how very earth-friendly minded they are and just an overall cool experience.

1 Lone Star Pass Employees are on a point system. From what I've learned, They have everyone take vacation at the same time, in July. If you want to take off for vacation for birthdays, etc, you will get a point, even if you take off weeks in advance. They have you call in same day as if you called off last minutes. Then you get a point. Not a family company. One of the worst parts is that there are no black leadership in the shift I am in. They have three races for leadership but none black. One of the head bosses dont even say hi to me but he does other employees. They have a high turn over rate because of the point system and their false promotion promises. I thought this was a great company to work for after all of the worldly hype but that's all it is, HYPE! This is the reason to not believe the hype. So disappointing from the inside. The pay is lower than much of the competition.

Photo of Rich_kids_of_yelp Z.

We recently toured the Toyota plant. Though thoroughly in love with Toyota, the tour was a bit dry in terms of the delivery of the information. As a whole, witnessing the machines, people, robots and conveyor-belt-antics was an overwhelming experience. To see the dance, hard work and ingenuity that it takes to produce an entire Tacoma or Tundra is a thing to behold. However, the delivery of the information was done in the style of ... meh... i dunno. It was this rehearsed, heartless spiel. Scripted and informative, I didn't sense any connection from the tour guides about how much they LOVE the company, the product, the work or the belief system. It's hard to put words down to match up with what was wrong with this tour, but it was about an impersonal as listening to a flight attendant tell you about the floatation devices. I had REALLY high hopes for the tour, and it didn't meet my expectations. Alas, the tour IS free so I do recommend going on it.

Photo of Mercedes M.

This is my second time coming on this tour and you learn so many things! The girl who showed us around knew all the facts and was helpful. I saw a lot of interesting things but sadly I couldn't take pictures since they don't allow phones on the tour, but I did have fun.
